Third and goal for the Patriots. First play of the second quarter. Run and play. It's Stevenson. Tuts down. Patriots strike first. The first and only touchdown on the day for the New England Patriots but it was enough when accompanied by three. Count him three. Field goals from the sly guy or as somebody called him on Instagram earlier. Joey Sliceps because man that guy is yoked up Andy. He is a that's a big boy right there. Feels nice to have a win. Feels nice to have a team that didn't make the mistakes today that walks away with the win. Feels nice to have special teams back and it also feels nice to have joining us right now on the hotline from the pregame show. W E E I dot com the slammed pot and more one of the best and most talented people here at W E E I and in all Boston sports media our pal. Meghan Ottolini mega do you believe now that the energy that I brought to the pregame show today is validated. Can you believe that I was actually right for a change. Absolutely I think you might be the one person in any corner of football media across the entire country who called this and actually I think like legitimately believe in this wasn't trying to do some like positive reverse troll so kudos to you. This is this is your time. I don't know if you'll have this time again for the rest of the season. So take this time as much as you want. That's a great leaping off point because there were things today, Megan, that I thought were sustainable and there are things that might not be. So let's stay positive. Could you pick a couple for me that you thought stood out that are sustainable aspects of this Patriots team that could maybe help them compete in games and win games moving forward. So I think what jumped out to me that I wasn't expecting as much and I think is sustainable is some of the just quick passes up the middle the kind of slants that you saw Jacobi per said able to connect on guys like KJ Osborne and sometimes like even when he was throwing them I was like, Oh, that's a little head. Oh, he's leading him. That's like a little tough and they still made these connections. He had great chemistry with Hooper as well, which I wasn't expecting. That's the kind of chemistry that was not apparent. I heard you guys talking about this earlier in the summer with this offense. So it was surprising to see it be so in line in this game and I don't think it's sustainable to look to remandry Stevenson and have him racking up 120 rushing yards every game and for you to expect the run defense on the other side to look like that in every game. That's what kind of side to me that is unsustainable, but to be able to see those other factors of their offensive game. I think should make Patriots fans a lot more hopeful that hey, there's some untapped chemistry and untapped stuff here in the Alex and Paul playbook that is cause for optimism in the future. So you don't think that Stevenson should have 425 carries this season, which is what he's on pace for. I mean, I think that that would be really tough for the training staff. Yes, it would be. Yeah, I think that would be tough for young remandry as well, but I don't think mega it's hyperbolic to say and we're joined by Megan Analini right now here on the six brings post game show with 15 heart live on W E E I. I don't think it's hyperbolic to say that that might be the best game we've ever seen remandry play as the lead back for the Patriots in his now three years and one game three plus years, if you will, as the starting back. Like that's kind of what I think that's the optimal remandry game. You won't have him carry it to the rock 25 times every time, but I think that's exactly what they wanted him for. And it seems like it was wise to sign him to that four year, 36 million dollar extension in the off season. Yeah, you know, and I'm writing about this right now where I think there's a lot of things that we saw today and I've heard you guys talk about this that are extremely old school Belichick and one of the things that you look at when you look at this game is would remandry even be here or would he have already cycled through to some other back from who knows where or somewhere in the draft and he's already the next guy up there. And I think remandry, it's great to see because for the running back position, it's such a small window for these guys to have production and remandries never been in the position where he isn't part of a duo or a tandem. And the big question is whether he can sustain his health, whether he can take that wear and tear, not to the extent that he did today, but some level of it as the bell cow back there. And so I agree it was one of his standout performances. He hasn't had a performance anywhere near that since December of 2022. And so I don't think that they should look to replicate it completely because I just don't think that's sustainable. I think that's asking way too much of him and probably too much of your offensive line too. But I agree with what you said, like I sign off on that. And I think it makes sense that they want to look to him as kind of the number one weapon in the offense, at least where they are in their development right now. Megha, we had a caller earlier that brought up the label game manager, got a little defensive about it. And obviously today was a day where Jacobi Bursett wasn't exactly chucking the ball all over the field. He had 121 yards passing in a modern NFL game. That's a low number. But my question is, did you see enough in your opinion from Jacobi Bursett to say, yeah, he is the right guy right now. And not just because of anything that has to do with Drake May. Oh, you don't want to break Drake May or you're afraid of the offensive line. Did you see positives in Jacobi Bursett that lead you to believe he can be the starter for a little while? I didn't. I'll say this. I know I think Jacobi was awesome, but it's impossible when you're asking me and you put him up against the possibility of Drake May. This is so much fun. So I don't want to bring down like the mood of breaking the bangles today. And you can talk about how much they have to figure out before the end of the month and the way that they are every year. It seems like under Joe burrow at the beginning of the season. That's a whole other discussion. But Jacobi Bursett was mostly really good today. And he averaged I think about like five yards per throw. There's nothing outstanding. He had like some pretty scary throws. Just a couple of them mixed in there. I'm thinking of course about the one to Hunter Henry that 50-50 ball where he really bailed him out. Hunter Henry did. And so I look at it and I go really nice game by Jacobi Bursett. And it just wasn't very much about him to me. It was about a complete collaborative effort from the offensive line playing way above their talent level for the most part. And Ramondre caring a lot of the load and being able to spread the ball around to all these different weapons. And a nice scheme from Alex Ampel. When I look at it though, I go, he basically did what they asked him to do which is, hey, don't go out there and make any massive mistakes that are going to ruin our very narrow margin of error. And he accomplished that. At the same time, it's not enough for me to stop looking over there and going like, okay, so when is it Drake time? So what is Drake doing with Ben McAdoo behind the scenes? How are Drake's mental reps today? That's still the focus for me. It's going to take a lot more than that for me to get off of it, you know, to stop focusing on that side of the street. I think the May needs to start ASA MFP hounds will probably be have some meat thrown their way or at least be sated and quieted for a little bit of time today because of course you can't argue with the results ultimately as well. I just want to share this from Twitter, Mego, and a little bit of something I gleaned off of some folks in Cincinnati I spoke to earlier this week. The nice folks at our sister Odyssey podcast in Cincinnati. It's always game day in Cincinnati told me they did not think that the bangles rush defense was ready for the Patriots. No matter how the Patriots offensive line played because they believed remandre Stevens into be an upper tier running back and because they never replaced DJ reader their Goliath of a defensive lineman who left in free agency and they drafted someone, but he was injured. And so they thought they would potentially be susceptible if the Patriots were on their a game, Lewis Riddick tweeted about an hour and a half ago. Patriots ran for 171 yards. The OL played their ass off might want to reduce the amount of talk about how nuclear level bad it was going to be as a unit. It's just one week, but that's a real positive start. He follows that up with that's all that's for all of the quote Drake may will be ruined behind that JV OL scream. I was an interesting, you know, follow up tweet there as well. Now the past protection wasn't great and Jacoby definitely got dinged up and he's on the run more often than not. But you know, good football begins with that boring ass stuff like winning in the trenches. And I think we saw a couple of callers earlier ago before you joined the show even said, I thought we saw a return to what used to work for the Patriots. Did that vibe ever strike you today? Absolutely. Yeah. And you know what? Like an overwhelmingly again, like that's what I'm writing about right now. A lot of it was knowing the dysfunction of your opponent knowing their vulnerabilities and being able to sit back and be committed to the patience required for your game plan and the execution to have that to carry that out while on the other side, they're melting down and you're also milking the clock. We've seen this before so many times the only thing that again, like I think this is the time to go to celebrate to do all of that. But the only thing that concerns me a little bit is they had a great game plan for today and they were able to use their personnel to, I think, their highest advantage and be able to execute the game plan. But how many other opponents are they going to see where their vulnerabilities and the timing of having one of their star weapons out and the star quarterback still managing whatever is going on with his wrist over there and trying to get back to himself. It was kind of like all these perfect factors lined up for the Patriots and what's different is that they were disciplined enough to be able to take advantage of that opportunity. So I don't want to discredit them. I just don't know how many more times that's going to line up. You know what I'm saying? It's like you could have a great game plan, but at some point do they have the personnel to be like exotic enough to game plan week to week to be that kind of team. I don't know. So the tone of that answer may sort of answer this question, but did the today's performance and results alter your perception of this team and expectations for this team moving forward? It did like as much as I say, I don't know and Andy, I think like in listening to you guys earlier, I think you're on this side too of how much of this can you replicate this little magic that you had today. I'm not sure yet, but I think that it's fair to say this offense is a lot better than people expected it to be because people thought it was going to be putrid. People thought it was going to be unwatchable. People watched that third preseason game where a lot of the starters were in and it's hard to look at it and go, well, I guess David Andrews is the magic component that was supposed to make the entire offensive line work, but that's kind of how it looked today. So it definitely makes me look at them and go, okay, I could see some games where they're scoring in the mid twenties and I can see this being a functional enough offense that you don't have the excuse to go to where we can't put Drake may out there. It's the, you know, that's irresponsible. I can see those kinds of things, those narratives or explanations or excuses or whatever you want to call them really going by the wayside as time goes on because I don't know if this offensive line will be able to sustain its health and the dairy and low and its development, but there's a lot to be optimistic about based on what you saw them be able to do even in just putting up 16 points. My kingdom for a proper left tackle mega. I couldn't agree more and it's going to be an exciting one next week. At least there's, you know what, I just like to two things and we'll get you out here so you can return to your fabulous writing for W E I dot com and then proper probably a well deserved evenings beverage and some Sunday night football, but one, I just want to say it's really nice for Pat's fans who've just been shouted at and you know, listen, I know no one had it better than them us. We whoever for 20 years, I get it, but it's nice that patriots fans can go to work, hang out, work from home, do whatever tomorrow with a smile on their face, a little giddy up in their step because they feel so much better about this today and that there is a little optimism and hope going forward on this team and I think that's a real plus. Yes, it's important that we don't put the cart before the horse as well, but you have also been working from home. Could you just give Andy and I a little taste is all of the online criticism that we've seen of Tom Brady as a color analyst on Fox warranted and merited thus far because boy, I know he's big on Twitter now. He may not want to check it after today's game. So I was thinking about this and I just think that if there's no way that he was ever going to get a positive review, there's just no way he's Tom Brady is way too much. People are so jealous of him that any time that he says, um, or pauses kind of awkwardly or does anything that most people would do the first time that they're doing this job. Like there's just there's going to be no world in which he would have gotten a fair shape, even though it's like who Brady doesn't need a fair shake. He's the, you know, the blessed, most talented golden boy at the same time. No, I don't think he's like dreadful. I have had to listen to 20 Romo call these stupid games and Super Bowl over the last several years. Not nowhere near as distracting and prepared and annoying as Tony Romo is. So everybody can just, you know, take their ball and go home and maybe you can just put it on you and watch the catches or something if it bothers you so much. She is, of course, the fabulous Miss Megan Ottolini. You can follow her at Megan underscore Ottolini. Read her words at W E E I dot com. She'll be checking in with us on every post game show all season long carrying the beat here for our fabulous station and the media enterprise and don't forget to check out the slammed podcast as well. Buddy, I'm so happy to have you as a part of our show. Thanks for calling in. Have a great rest of the Sunday and we'll talk to you soon. Me too. Thanks, guys. There she goes. Megan Ottolini joining us here on the six rings post game show. Andy, quick check in. It is 27 to three in the game that Tom Brady is currently calling the Cowboys are. Let's see. In one tweet says Jason McIntyre says it's a bad ass kicking. The goat house says it is an ass beating in Cleveland and Yahoo says they're pouring it on. Isn't this the time for Brady to now sort of like test out some takes or just let it rip? Absolutely. It's a blowout. It's a bad game. Keep people involved and maybe tell me why the hell Deshawn Watson blows right just karma catching up with him is has he lost a step? Is he no longer? Whatever because I have it on in the background, obviously, I can't really pay attention. But every time I look up Deshawn Watson, the most expensive cap hit in the history of the game by a significant margin is looking like he can't play. Little while ago, there was a slant to Amari Cooper. He just flat out couldn't throw a slant and if you remember recently, Bill Belichick when he was talking about May was talking about easy throws and he was like, yeah, he could throw a slant. You know, everybody can throw a slant blah blah blah. Deshawn Watson, the highest paid quarterback in the history of the game just proved he couldn't throw a slant and you should have seen the reaction of Amari Cooper like, this is our quarterback. This guy blows. What happened to him? I mean, I know what happened to him. I think it's I think it's honestly, I think they're well, he took obviously a lot of time off mistime, but it almost feels like there's a a karma aspect to it. A comic retribution. Yeah, when he was a good guy, because coming out of Clemson and before this, he was thought of as a good guy. He was charitable everything, right? You know, he paid the bills. I didn't he'd like treat all of the all those things. Yeah, concession workers or like the kitchen staff at Energy Stadium or whatever they call it down there in Houston. Like he took care of them during like COVID and was very charitable. And now it feels like since the whole thing with the massage therapists and online and whatever the hell was going on there. Like the world has just turned on him and he just he's just not very good at all. He's really bad. Like he's really bad. He's got the line or the weapons. I think this is the last year of no, he has weapons. I don't know how good the line is. I have seen him running around, but he's running around throwing the ball up for grabs. He used to be able to run around and make wild plays. He would throw 30 yard darts. He would. Yeah, the Anthony Richardson today. Maybe not quite that long because that was one of the most ridiculous errors I've ever seen. But Deshawn Watson used to be one of these playmakers that was in that MVP category, the Josh Allen's or the Patrick Mahomes. Now he just looks like quite honestly, just a bad quarterback for the Cleveland Browns. And I got to think this is pretty much the end of his tenure there. The deal runs through 2026. Yeah, he's not going to get to play that out unless he starts playing significantly better. Yeah, Denver decided to eat a lot of that Russell Wilson money and look what happened to him now that Bo next takes over for Denver, Seattle is winning that game right now and Russell Wilson didn't even start today. We'll get to more of that when we talk broader view NFL in just a few minutes. But yeah, Deshawn Watson is cooked. And if they were willing to eat all that dead cap and real money in Denver, wouldn't be surprised if he plays like this more often that this would be the end of an error for him as well in Cleveland. And I don't think most Browns fans, if any would mind at all 6 1 7 7 7 9 7 9 3 7 into telephone over. If you want to hop on and talk some Patriots football, you can talk about anything going on in week one of the 2024 NFL season. You can help us join the overreaction Monday primer and so much more later on the program. We'll finally hear from percent. We'll get Andy's thumbs up thumbs down. Do a too quick, too early preview of next Sunday's game, the home opener against the Seahawks. But first, let's catch up on everything going on in the wide world of sports, the NFL and beyond with producer Joe Braverman. Less than one hour to go here on a very spirited energetic jovial and may I say celebratory edition of the six rings in football things post game following the Patriots kickoff game for the 2024 season in case you missed it or you was busy or you were like Dave Portner and you're watching the WNBA no disrespect because Caitlin Clark putting on a show once again. The Patriots won 16 to 10. They are 1 and 0 on the season. Dare I say it was an upset to many not this guy because I called it but that's all right. We're having fun with it right now. We'll go around the NFL in just a couple of minutes. Andy the way this game played out. Tell me right now before we get into our full blown too quick too soon preview of week two with the Patriots taken on Seattle at home in the home opener next Sunday at 1. Tell me exactly what today in your mind that when does for your expectations in the home opener and in reasonable capacity going forward for this team. I have no idea. I'll be honest with you. Like I know week one for loop today buddy week one is a wild card yep and like I get a text from a buddy who says one in 16 still feels like it's in play and I replied yup it would not be the same. And that being said if they can get the breaks they got today and capitalize on them and play the game on their terms like Mango just said no she didn't feel great about Jacobi Brissette. No she doesn't want him throwing the ball more and I think a lot of people would agree with that. But you played the game on your terms you played it the way you had to play it probably to win the game. If you can do that more often than not can you win other games sure. Now I don't know if other teams are as dysfunctional as the Bengals were today probably not but we'll see moving forward. Seattle we all had as a winnable game correct. Forget forget today just in general everybody's like Seattle game winnable ish but I will be honest on six rings earlier when I predicted the Patriots would win today. I did say they would probably lose next week in a tough game because I think Seattle is better than most people expect. I was on that train. However I think it I think it still is a winnable game against Seattle. If you play like today in my opinion if you play like you play it all summer you'll probably get steam rolled like you'll get steam rolled by most NFL teams. The depth of your secondary is going to get tested more next week than it was this week because you're going to have DK Metcalf and Lockett and Smith and Jigba. So you know every week is its own entity and in when you're when you're built like the Patriots are built right they they don't have room. The margin for errors is negative correct like they don't. We know they have limitations in terms of talent. We know they have limitations in terms of the way they can play the game if they can play the game the way they did today when the turnover battle run the ball the offensive line overachieve not underachieve and look like a debacle. They might have a chance to win next week and then we'll take it from there moving forward. That's a that is a proper gentlemanly and appropriate assessment of how things will likely go will next week be tough sure will Patriots will have to play yet another mistake free game. Their defense will probably keep him the game but they'll probably deal with a team that's going to be playing with more confidence a little more momentum. It's difficult for Seattle to of course come across the entirety of the United States to play the game so they'll have that going for them and I think the Patriots will be buoyed by a reenergized fan base that will fill the stadium that will be expecting or at least hoping for something other than they probably were aligning themselves to which would have been the past just kind of getting filleted and stinking and all those people that said 3 and 14 you know let's just let's just play our part move on to 2025. This very well might be a 567 win season at best but it might be an entertaining one where you see real players develop and there's excitement in the air and it's more fun to watch like today was legitimately enjoyable for me I really I had fun watching the game and it wasn't just oh yeah I get to say I claim the dub no it was a fun game to watch because the pets didn't beat themselves how many times in the last half decade if we said guys the other team wants to beat you real bad so don't beat yourselves in the process Andy. Can I also tell you why it was enjoyable was that people like me. You know I'm going to explain. Do you have an ice pack or do you need a Theragon to make sure you don't strain a muscle reaching around to pack yourself in the back. First of all after the two and a half hours I've listened to you take the victory lap for picking the Patriots for the 757 straight week and it actually paid out this time. No the reason this game was enjoyable is because expectations were so low and that's true. It may be just maybe the pink hat wearing spoiled entitled fans have been cleansed to the point. You know we got our first you people here we go. I didn't actually say you people but you're right I was referencing you people. Maybe you people can now appreciate singular drives singular plays half some football games of football victories and not start every season thinking if you don't win the Super Bowl it's a failure because that's the mentality you all have brought because you mock quarterbacks that don't win Super Bowls you Mac mock coaches like Josh Allen's bills whatever they never won the Super what they have a one that guy an MVP my ass once you pay him a little more money mocking those people maybe now that's been cleansed enough we can get back to the days when wild card births being in the hunt for wild card births were great seasons victories to open the year were something to be celebrated not well we got rid of that one how how quickly can we get to 12 wins are we going to be the number one seed you see in the AFC title game the expectations that were created unfairly and unrealistically right living reality for a long time you know Matthew Slater said it in the bills playoff blowout loss what we lived was not reality we're back to reality and reality is in all football it's really freaking hard to win it's a chaotic sport a crazy sport a physical sport health there just so many factors maybe we're back to we can enjoy a 16 to 10 opening day win in which the quarterback threw for a hundred and twenty one yards and just leave it at that be like that was fun the running back did this you know whatever whatever you embraced as a fan today maybe we've cleansed the palate to the point where we can enjoy small victories small successes small improvements small goals moving forward is that fair like I think the negative views actually help people enjoy this game in a weird way and it's like you said before fun suck is better than boring suck amen yes and today you know it was fun suck today key on white was fun suck I don't know where the season is going but for one day what is fun suck a candy you get handed out after you lose a little league game yeah yeah kind of I mean you can come up with it yeah I mean do do a t-shirt with it I know you're big on t-shirt why don't you do it why don't you do a t-shirt with it hey listen we'll get back to more of this in a second 80 but I do want to make sure we play because we are talking about twenty one what's that jacoby I would like to play jacoby yes I would like to play jacoby brice it yes after we're earlier from make hand oh tole and I and we took a commercial brieac let's go ahead and here now let's hear the post game comments from jacoby verzet who earlier today got very emotional taking to the microphone after his first win in a Patriots uniform in eight years yes awesome man you know that's that's a great team where right there you know in all three phases of the game you know everybody stepped up and we needed to step up in the game on a roll in victory formation man again much better than that you know it's just prouder the work that we put in obviously the plan on both sides of the ball and in special teams was was executed to what we what we thought it was going to be 60 minute football game you know they obviously had a good plan on their side of ball but you know today we executed a little bit better you know like I said earlier in the week everybody's talking about a lot and you know I mean we know in this room how confident we are in that group you know I don't know I don't have the statue but I don't know how many yards you rush for zero sacks I think versus versus you know two pro Bowl D ends and good interior pass rush you know and Lou who does so much on on defense and you know I might have so off to that old line and and what Scott did with those guys and you know I know they're hungry to get back out there and do it again next week but you know I'm super proud of those guys oh there we go there we go you know and I think ABP did a good job of of playing against Lou so much you know when he was in Cleveland you know understanding his tendencies and things like that you line up in certain formation is like you know it simplifies the game and say Thursday things like that and obviously giving me the opportunity to pick up you know plays with my legs and you know the old line doing a good job of creating rush lanes for me you know so I thought we had a good plan with those things and you know obviously want to complete complete a couple more passes but I thought we had we did a good job with that excited man it's hard to win in his league you know he played in his league he understands how hard it is to win on his league on the road versus a good opponent you know he was you know what's the word static and elated any any word you can think of that means overjoyed you know he should be you know it's his first one you know when he got us ready to go you know not only this week but you know dating back to OTAs you know it all built up for this moment right here you know to put all our work on display you know we did a good job of doing that this week yeah you know and I think we got to a certain point in the game and you know we said before the game it's like it's going to be a certain point in the game where we're just going overpowered now you know we're going just out conditioning them and and and do all the little things right more than them because of our all the work that we put in and I think that was on display you know everybody understands we were running the ball at the end of the game and we still get first down at the first down you know that we're there in past situation in our defense is it's hunting down a quarterback and taking away their best players and limiting a really good quarterback you know once you do that you know that that's the identity we want to create you know and I think we did that we did that a good job of establishing that on one one game this week. For sure you know we pick up a big third down you know when we get back into our big big big personnel and they see big ladies coming on the field and they know we're about to run and went on the ball out of that and you know the run the runs didn't change you know and and you know we went down hill and my journey was like man just give me the ball and run downhill and and every people did a good job and I think he does a really good job of trusting us out there you know when we talked about communication and one of the main things was you know being honest out there and you know when my dress like I don't want to run outside zone them where I want to run downhill and that's what we did you know and you know obviously some of the early in the game the outside zone stuff was working to hit him downhill and you know they haven't seen those looks in their in their gash know. Defense helping out keeping you with this game. How did it allow you guys to run the offense knowing that defense is going to come out there and you can all that. Yeah I mean it was just what our game plan was was you know established a line of scrimmage run the ball stopped running take away their big players you know when and you know keep converting third down still on the field and score points when we get down there in the red zone and I think what we did that you know when you know obviously got a little better at the the sudden change part of the game you know in after the half and it started a little faster after the half but I think our defense did a great job. You know I think he got to to second quarter before he got a first down I think and you know we do that man we're going to be alright you know and it has to our defense they did a did a hello job and I know those guys are I know the work that they put in this all season as well. So you know I'm just super proud for the guy super happy for them. Show me a little ago. Girard said he told the moderate season. You don't get a lot of attention. One of the better facts. You've been around a lot of money. When you want analysis system. Yeah. How good do you think? Remondrate. Yeah I don't want to say the sky's the roof because that'll put a limit on it. But you know it was it was definitely fun turning around and handing the ball and like seeing the patient that he runs with the aggression he runs with. You know how fast he was pulling away from DB's that had angles on him and you know it's just such a smart back. You know I'm excited to see you know how this progresses. You know in this offense man it was just a lot of fun to watch and play. Go back to you know what you did in Washington for Washington against the Jets in the Rams last year. Kind of continues that year for you though. You know we're all involved with the circle of light mode for you to make this start as a patriot quarter guy first since 2016 and get out of here. Yeah man I think I cried three times before the game. Cry when I got to the stadium cry when Mayo came up to me and before the game and he like started laughing. He's like me you're about to you're about to win us this game about the ball out and I had never heard that from a coach you know I mean and that meant a lot to me and then I cried when I got out there and they we're going out there in offense but you know my emotions were definitely high. You know I mean it's definitely a moment that you know I just can't take it for granted you know these things don't come by often and like I said I'll take it for granted. Today I didn't score. Yeah I kept that one. Mayo got a game ball though for sure you know his first one which he deserved like I said like I don't think on people understand I think it's like the plan that he put in place with us this week you know you know in the work that he you know foresaw for us to get to this point you know like I like nobody believes in us you know I mean he he just kept on preaching like you know the people in this room that are ones that matter you know and that came there for wish you know like I said coming on a rover is a good team week one new head coach new officer coordinator new defensive coordinator all these things that stacked up against us in you know and none of that matter once we got between those white lines you know and once we got on that plane to come here you know the the vision was clear you know and the communication was clear and we came and executed that plan. Well I got to tell you Andy listen to Jacobi reset there I understand why people loud him for his leadership for his calm even demeanor for being super positive and everyone that wants Drake made a start and yes he won the competition per se but the coaching staff believing that Jacobi reset is the right man right now for this team to teach him to lead them and sort of bridge the gap I get it I'm super hot I couldn't have all the people I'm happiest for today I'd say Jacobi reset maybe you know one or one a right next to John Mayo and he's just so a likable genuine comfortable in his own skin I think he knows who he is who he isn't what he cares about he's not afraid I even laugh you know like if he can't think of a word he's he's not afraid to say what's the word how's the word go he did have a funny phrase there what he said I don't want to say the sky's the ceiling because that would put a limit or something. I enjoyed today I enjoyed it quite a bit but he's an easy get we've said you know that we all I think have voiced it in some way like you feel bad when you don't really want him to play but because he seems like such a great guy he's just may not be a great quarterback but he was the quarterback they needed today right to win the game he did enough just like every of one of his teammates did enough to win the game and you know it this is emotional I'm sure for him he probably knows there's not that many more chances for him to start football games and be the starting quarterback for an NFL team at this point in his career so soak it in and he got the victory and he's got a winning record for now. That is correct and he's going to do like he said a long time ago he believed he had the right to be the starter he was the starter and he was going to do everything he could to hold on to the starting job and that's no disrespect to Drake May or anyone else that wants to see him come in as QB one of the NEP because he is the future in Foxborough but right now again it's just one game it was the right team and then he had enough plays to get the job done we'll see how it looks next week against Seattle with that Byron Murphy machine coming up the gut against a much better probably more coordinated offense with some actual chemistry and a better defensive mind as coach they got the Jets is a it's a long road ahead it's a tough rest of the September but we're off to a good start great to hear from Bursett and I'm very happy for him 617 779 793 7 is number one we come back will bounce around the NFL a little bit talked to you about what happened the rest of the day and then we'll wrap it up with thumbs up from Andy more thumbs up than thumbs down I'm imagining a quick preview of next week's game against Seattle and that'll be it before we throw it to Westwood one's coverage of Sunday night football this is the six rings post game show live on W E.I. First and 10 pressures coming Richardson slips now he's airing it out deep down the field for Pierce touchdown what a throw by Richardson that was one of the highlights of the day unfortunately and came in defeat for the Indianapolis Colts and unthinkably gifted physically unbelievable Anthony Richardson off his back foot just through the ball. Oh nothing but 70 yards in the air on a dime to Alec Pierce for a 60 yard touchdown for the Indianapolis Colts however it was not enough as the heavily favored Houston Texans who some according to this particular station this particular host and the people on the NFL today like Matt Ryan and JJ what believe the Texans could be Super Bowl bound the Chiefs may have something to say about that 2927 year final there and that one Andy that was that was a hell of a throw that was in case anyone missed it I highly recommend going to your social media machines and checking that one out but that was a that was a piece right there there may be five people on the planet that can make that throw one of the other ones might be the Patriots third string quarterback I was going to say is one of them is in our backyard right he might be I'm not sure there's anyone else that can make the throw but if there are there's only a handful that is a ridiculous display and it's not just the distance but the as you said sort of off the back foot didn't get to crow hop and step into it like that is that's a freakish play and that's why people talk about member he had the perfect relative athletics score coming in out of the the combine and I was like wait it's perfect you can't get any higher than like yeah no he's perfect he's the perfect athlete coming into the NFL and you saw the that's why Colts fans have to dream that he can stay healthy and continue to grow yeah he's he is hella talented for sure but unfortunately the rest of the team needs a little bit of work as well they showed some game today but now they go to I think one in 10 in their last 11 home openers see right now on the board. Oh look who just scored for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jalen McMillan the other wide receiver from Roma Wednesday much Chicago we of course with Jalen Polk I believe he had one reception today for five yards Jalen McMillan just hauled in a 30 yarder from Baker Mayfield for a touchdown as the Buccaneers extend their lead to 30 to 14 over the commanders down in Tampa in a game where Jaden Daniels also just scored his first touchdown a little up the gut from three yards out but I still think the Buccaneers will win that one today a couple other thoughts on the day. This is a this is a Patriots related thought I just had to share with you Andy this from Dan Shaughnessy in his column right now that is available on the front page of the Boston Globe forwarded to me by the author of the book the Dynasty our old six rings pal Jeff Benedict Dan Shaughnessy wrote and I quote with one game down and 16 to play maybe they'll produce an 11th episode of the Dynasty and call it who needs Bella check that's a good line. He's a good excellent. That's an excellent line. It is and I mean that's that's that's that's prime that's peak shaughnessy right there actually I'll give him his flowers that's that is a solid line. Do you don't you think this is a great question to actually ask legitimately on Nantucket I believe because I saw that video on Instagram to Brady was he did he enjoy watching this game did he enjoy his pupil Gerard Mayo winning his first career start getting dumped with Gatorade a great question or is the vindictive spiteful portion of his personality making him unable to enjoy this too soon as they say is this too soon for him to let Gerard have his flowers and enjoy that his star pupil in his old team one. No I think because you'll be able to hear from Bella check tomorrow night on the Manning cast tomorrow on the McAfee show of course on the coach show on underdog with Michael Marty and Matt Patricia and every other friend of Bell check possible on inside the NFL on the weather channel on the today show on beat Bobby Flay in the 500 other places you can hear Bell check analyze football this fall I think he actually will be very complimentary I think he'll be proud of the effort he'll probably take credit or say you know this is why we drafted this guy or this is what we always saw in this guy or I always he doesn't Patricia will God for sure for sure. He says by the way I wonder ever since I ran into Patricia and he told me that he was going to be doing no media this fall how quickly thereafter did the coach offer from Bell check come through and he was like I'll take that well we all know we've learned over the years he does not say no to Bill even when he should that is correct that is that is very correct a couple other notes on some other games how did Jackson bill Jack of course Travis ATN with a fumble on the goal line just like the the tight end Hudson for the Bengals today when you fall on the goal line a lot of times you lose those games Jackson bill was up 17 to 27 I believe 77 late in the third quarter they somehow lost to the dolphins today Carolina might be that they are going to possibly enter the chat for one of the worst teams in the history of football with a terrible coach it's not yeah it's not going to work out for them and Bryce Young is going to be a Bustamante here's one of my favorite tweet is one of the best tweets of the day this is from let's see this is from at underscore MRLO Panthers tickets about to be included in a Bojangles combo that's bad that is bad that is very bad they might be they might be the new WNBA WNBA is popular now people love the W they're filling out the arenas but in the old days you couldn't give their tickets away panthers might enter that conversation we're in Carolina you go on the street and say you want a dollar or a ticket to a panther's game and people might take the dollar I think they might take the dollar Vikings absolutely throttled the Giants 28 to 6 and it wasn't even that close Aaron Jones in his first game in a different uniform since Green Bay moved on from him in favor of Josh Jacobs that's what the Giants get for those awful uniforms they were wearing everything about them is awful right now that's what they get for Daniel Jones yeah I don't know what they were thinking the road they went down and it pains me because I really really like my guy Brian Dable but yeah they're they're in trouble he might be in trouble imagine choosing Daniel Jones over sacred look what I just wanted on Friday I can't imagine choosing Daniel Jones over anybody like deciding that's a guy I want to pay a hundred and forty million dollars to I just I truly don't understand that error and judgment and not being able to move on sooner and more definitively for the future of the franchise and now they're going to pay the price yeah no there that one's going to break their back for a long time to come the Giants are god awful all the bears might be ready for primetime maybe not quite just yet because the Titans took them long and that one but their defense and special teams helped them pull out the win as we mentioned before the only thing worse than the Cleveland Browns today is how people are reacting to Tom Brady as a color analyst on Fox Dallas looks good and the two things that got the conversation stirred earlier today Andy number one the 60 million dollar year deal for Dak Prescott for years 60 million 213 million of which is guaranteed which is unbelievable we have now reached the 60 million dollar a year plateau or level in paying quarterbacks in the NFL which is mind blowing want to get your thoughts on that and also the Tyree kill incident and I just got this update on Instagram Adam Schefter just had this moments ago I believe it reads I apologize for pulling up basically the date County someone in Dade County has opened up an investing here it is right here I apologize for the delay folks following the incident involving Tyree kill I have initiated an internal affairs investigation to ensure a thorough review of the matter one of the officers involved in the incident has been placed on administrative duties while the investigation is conducted I'm committed to transparency and accountability to the community with any situation involving my officers that that came through a little while ago from somebody in the Miami Dade County sheriff's office police office if you missed it earlier today Tyree kill was speeding on his way in his super expensive black Ferrari to hard rock stadium was Kaleis Campbell in the car with him I believe so yes yeah and they were speeding got pulled over get out of the car I don't know what happened next they were cuffed and Tyree kill was faced down on the concrete outside of his home stadium how the hell did we get there not not long after he was in the end zone celebrating by pretending to be cuffed after the longest touchdown of his career so as well that ends well for the Miami Dolphins and Tyree kill but no this when clearly somebody overstepped their boundaries I don't know if if Tyree kill was completely innocent and did nothing wrong but I'm not sure the situation needed to escalate to the level it escalated to he claims he would he's always been taught to you know do the right thing keep your hands on the steering wheel don't say anything now his he's got enough issues in his background that you can question how he handles things but I think there are some officers that may have gone a little too far here seems to be a little bit of an overreach right there as well so we'll see how that one shakes out but you could you almost sort of could know you could have wager not I'm I'm sure some people did Andy just as well that you know the props that probably went off for Tyree kill having more than 100 yards in the touchdown today people were probably cashing those tickets and it doesn't surprise me that he involved that in his celebration and he got 80 of it in one play on one play yeah again he's really good and there's a reason why he's a receiver that's in the potential MVP in the 2024 campaign chat in the NFL also good one by the way up in Buffalo 3427 the final the bills pull it out over the Cardinals Cardinals will be feisty the bills are not quite dead yet and your boy Khalil Shakir with a tuddy today Andy yeah I'm telling you could be a breakout season I've been telling you that for a couple of years so sooner or later I might be right just like you blow it at your ass six one seven seven nine seven ninety three seven when we come back we'll put a bow on this puppy thumbs up and thumbs down from Andy quick preview the Seattle game and that'll do for today's six rings post game show live here on WEEI back in a few don't you go anywhere USA here's thirty six to the aggressive approach the honky sidesteps by first that is in the end zone the rookie scores that's my boy Andy my boy lad so proud of him lat maconkey with a touchdown in his rookie debut boy must be nice to have all those rookie wide receivers out there the Jalen McMillan the lad maconkeys scoring tuddies and getting more than one pass thrown their way but once again we are not complaining we are not commiserating we are celebrating is the Patriots beat the Bengals 16 to 10 in a grinder out at pay core stadium from the city of Skyline chili Andy looks like a Chargers might be kind of reasserting themselves a little bit here I understand they're playing their eight is who are not very good as well Joe Alt so far on the day one on one versus Max Crosby eight snaps zero pressures allowed that's not too bad not too shabby Seattle is up 26 13 with a couple minutes left from Seattle against bonus and the Broncos they are going to present quite an interesting challenge next week to say the least they can kind of bring it on every side of the ball they didn't play a perfect game by any stress themselves today as well but I mean it's going to be a fun one next week I really do I think Seattle is you know it's not a division rival it's not a juggernaut but they're a good team that's going to travel a long way and has quality players on both sides of the ball let's do our first too quick of a preview looking towards the game next Sunday so you know the the wide receivers versus the secondary matchup is the first one I'm going to watch you know for example Kyle Dugger probably should have been beaten for a touchdown by Mike a sticky he didn't so I have I still have questions you know I saw some tweets you people your people here we go that Christian Gonzalez is the most underrated corner in football or something like that right everybody can we not put him in Canton already exactly he had a good performance I'm feeling better about Christian Gonzalez today because of what he did just like I'm feeling better about the Patriots because of what they did doesn't mean I'm picking the Patriots go the playoffs doesn't mean I'm picking Christian Gonzalez to be a pro bowl or anything like that like let's just take it for what it was as a one off the challenges are going to grow just like I was reading during the break I saw Brian Hoyer on NBC Sports Boston said you know like we know after today Gerard Mayo's a good coach I have no idea if Gerard Mayo's a good coach after one game I know he coached well today it's one get his team ready to go today did things in camp to build up to today to win the game but as I said this league is a meat grinder it'll chew you up and spit you out how many good coaches you know Brian Dable good coach Eric Mangini good coach until New York spit him out you know Nick Siriani good coach until everybody's like yeah Belichick's going to Philly because Siriani sucks he doesn't get along with this court there is just to make this assertion after one game that Gerard Mayo is a good coach I just can't do it I'm not gonna I would ingest I was sort of joking about the extrapolation off of today's games the projections like the Patriots are going to go 17 and 0 and Ramanda Stevenson will have 425 carries and my guy Keon White's gonna have 42 and a half sacks none of those are true just like it's not true you can say Gerard Mayo's a good coach after today one game but you may think he's going to be a good coach and you can be impressed with the job in preparation that he did and brought into the game but to certify him a quote good coach already no it's a good start for a new coach that's what I would say and I'd much rather this than the opposite of this where I'm questioning who it didn't go well and his team didn't look ready and they were out of shape poor tackling bad game plan I'd much rather have the optimistic approach than the pessimistic approach but neither would tell you long term what the guy is we've seen coaches that still bell check lost his first game with the Patriots does that mean he was a sucky coach no there weren't a lot of losses after that first season actually he really started to win at a really great pace so yes and I know Cam Newton also won his first start as well and we saw how that's easy yeah that's perfect and wiggy won to give him a hundred million dollars would have been the greatest mistake in recent years for the scene 110 actually so so let's just roll this forward to Seattle first year coach is he a good coach I don't know he won today does that mean he's a good coach I really have no idea so there's good and are the Broncos any good maybe the Broncos are a terrible team maybe the bank goes are terrible or though first touchdown so but but my point is you really just don't know what you don't know to use the NFL phrase after one week because you have no no compare you know bar to measure against no comparables this is it's all it's all so new year to year there may be the Bengals are a mess maybe Joe Baro can't throw maybe Jamar Chase wants out I mean you got a penalty for sulking being the 12th man on the field because he was sulking right like they said that is that right right so just that it's so tough to preview especially two teams in week two coming off victories that are or well one's coming off a victory one maybe coming off a victory but two minutes on that you know then are week two are they that good maybe they're smelling their own farts as people like to say maybe they read all their press like this I usually say reading their own clippings but okay you know you do you whichever whichever whichever you like better but maybe the worst thing in the world for these patriots was a win today maybe they suddenly believe like Devon Godshaw that they were overlooked right and underrated and maybe they they don't you know take care of their business this week or maybe Seattle is not ready for a flight across the country and they Seattle has a challenge here coming across the country for a new coach a team that's kind of veteran but has some new faces changing from the peak Carol era so this is a huge week for these two teams especially assuming if Seattle holds on to win that game dare I say Andy that it's actually kind of a perfect matchup because you have two rookie head coaches both defensive minded taking over for a legendary coach like it's kind of ideal like it becomes a come especially coming off wins yeah yes you you could see both coaches handle it poorly both teams handle it poorly and maybe that crosses each other out and then you get a fair competitive football game because they are sort of in similar situations and then depth in the offensive line I hope they're not smelling their you know what's or whatever like I think they need to continue to prove that they can do it week in and week out and there's just so many questions in the first few weeks and you said it over reaction Monday but really this whole week is over reactions thinking that what we saw this Sunday or this Thursday or this Monday is what you're going to see from those teams moving forward there is there's no guarantee of that and in fact many of them are probably mirages right false confidences and false failures or whatever so but I do I think this is an interesting game that I like the idea of it you got the upset and now you have a winnable game all right big boys let's see what you are yeah something I noticed on the socials a little while ago key on white has lots of what he plays and that would be edge because if you go to his instagram he actually reposted a Bengals fan who was like all blinged out with tiger gear and a necklace and whatever and he just reposted it basically just trolling the fan base that was already celebrating their victory before that game kicked off today so I think that attitude is going to purvey this for this team for a while to come and then also right here's a quote from another Patriots defender about your bill peppers quote his grit and his tenacity and his intensity it just trickles off to the defense you know if they can keep that up you know and so long as they don't lose a bunch of games in a row that it with self-inflicted wounds or where they make some bad mistakes and they hang in these games I think you know the idea of like oh could they have peaked too early was it too big a win for them like you just you just offered a minute ago like it was that the worst and it can happen to know now they believe in themselves but they have to keep that EEA energy effort and attitude up next week it's going to be a fun one look forward to seeing everyone there next week Sunday one o'clock from July the Patriots home opener against the Seattle Seahawks Andy before we put a bow on this one though we would be remiss if we did not give you a chance to do everybody's favorite segment thumbs up and thumbs down on the day who made the nice list and who made the naughty list for you Mr. Hart so let's get the when we get the thumbs down out of the way it's a shorter list and I don't want to end on the negative I'd rather end on the positives which is a longer list so to get the thumbs down out of the way I think we talked about it right off the bat real quick but Chukes Okora for at left tackle struggled early and I don't know if the plan was to play low or maybe to try to keep low on the sideline to rest if he didn't have to play well he had to play Okora for was bad lot of pressures at least three or four pressures right out the gates I'm not sure what his role is going to be with this team moving forward I told you at the end of camp I thought he was a surprise cut because he hasn't been good and you might just want to go youth but whatever Okora for was out there I got to go with your guy Pettis del Pettis and I'm combining him with Jeremy Springer the special teams coach he looked like he didn't know the rules on the opening kickoff of the game that you weren't allowed to move until it was touched or landed in the the landing zone or whatever the hell they call it with that flag on the first play and I know a lot of people were tweeting and saying uh oh that's a bad omen a flag on the opening kickoff that is that that sign of things to come it wasn't but it was bad can't have that and then this is kind of a nit picking negative but the young receivers young players you won today in in large part because of your veterans and your known commodities you know you didn't have a Jalen Polk have a breakout game Demario Douglas didn't really have a breakout game you know some of the young unproven players other than Keon White who will get to in a minute it was sort of the the known commodities that led you and I maybe next week is an opportunity Jalen Polk have a have a breakout week so I want to see some of the young guys start to inject themselves into the conversation and then finally on the thumbs down list would be me for suggesting that the pager to go oh and 17 and they won their first game of the season one and 16 is still in play but zero and 17 was in play for like 10 minutes because they played a great first half they controlled the game and they played the game on their terms so I'm on the thumbs down list thumbs up I'm going to start with Keon White I thought he dominated the game and what you're talking about he brings an edge in an attitude sort of like peppers that I think is permeating the roster pervasive like kind of spreads and I think that's on and off the field press conferences the whole thing he's adding to the edge as you said of this defense and not just not just the physical edge but the mental and sort of attitude edge to this team I love him Jacobi Brissette is getting the next thumbs up because no one wanted him to start he had to earn the job he probably knows a lot of people didn't want him to start whatever he did the job I don't care what you say about his numbers he led the biggest underdog I saw in like 10 years on opening day to win or whatever it was it's been a while he led them to victory on the road so Jacobi Brissette gets his flowers remandre Stevenson he's the centerpiece of the offense got the big contract extension some people were wondering as he worth it whatever he proved he was worth it for one day 25 carries 120 yards three catches I think he is a huge part of the offense moving forward the coordinator slash coaches Alex Van Pelt Demarcus Covington and Gerard Mayo they had the team ready to play they had good game plans especially Demarcus Covington I love the way he coordinates this defense he's aggressive certainly a little bit more Brian Flores than Matt Patricia in terms of his style tackling on the whole and I'll give both Gerard Mayo and Demarcus Covington credit for that having their guys ready to tackle and the totality of the defense the defense won this game the offense did its part the defense won this game so that's Jabril peppers and company making plays that's Kyle Dugger taking opportunities that are presented by the giving Bengals and those are your thumbs up and an extra thumbs up to our boy laden Robinson who you and I are fired up for another line like you said did their job and you'll give him his flowers I just want to shout him out one more time for helping lead the way in the run game I'm with you there's going to be a lot of power runs to the side of he Andrews and a winner to come and I am looking forward to that good old fashioned smash mouth football and hey how about maybe a quick gansett also to the sly guy Joey Slyceps sly hard for knocking back all three field goals all of which were needed in today's game Braverman as always phenomenal job Andy a very fun three hours together much more so in victory than defeat we will be back
