Time now for the six rings post game show. Breaking down everything Patriots now. Here's Fitsy and Hard on WEi. One of the many times today where it looked like the New England Patriots were going to bend and break. The other team, these being the Cincinnati Bengals looking like they were going to take it into the six point house. A mistake made by the Bengals turns into an opportunity for a turnover for the Patriots on the previous play. Mike Asicki looked like he elevated over. Old pal Mike Asicki, I'm contractually obligated to say. Elevated over safety, Kyle Dugger for the touchdown. Dugger did not give up on the play. Asicki was not able to, as they like to say, survive the ground because nobody knows what it catches anymore. Forcing the third down pass, Burrow hits Hudson the other tight end, who goes straight up the gut, extends the arm with the ball in hand like an idiot at the one. Dugger never giving up once again, knocks it loose, Jones takes it, huge play. These are some of the plays Andy that I do believe has become here in hour number two of the six rings post game show live on WEi. That people will point to the rest of today tomorrow and all week long saying, well, the Patriots took advantage of the opportunities and miscues by the Bengals so credit to them. But this really was more about the Bengals losing this game than the Pats winning. Funny thing is, I don't care because all I see in the win loss column is one dub for the Pats, zero L's thus far. Absolutely. I'm a big believer in scoreboards and standings like the analysis when you do shows like this for three hours and you're breaking it all down or if you're writing a post game column, you know, you can delve into the factors that led to the final score. That is the job to unearth those, but history will show Patriots 1 and 0. History will show you the stats that the Patriots outscored the Bengals because I don't want to go down that row. Patriots could have lost every Super Bowl they were in. Yeah, and they could have won every Super Bowl they were into. They won six, they lost three. That's probably where they should be. That's why they're an all time great team. So no, no, no, I don't get into the yeah, butts, yeah, butts. I will tell you if they played, as you said, this game in a month, month and a half, my guess is I'd still be picking the Bengals to win because I think the Bengals are more talented team and you probably don't assume they're just going to make the same dumb ass mistakes. Although they're the Bengals, I leave it open. I leave maybe we should add Zach Taylor. You think Bill Belichick would like to coach Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase? Let's add Zach Taylor to the Bella check watch list of teams. Bella check, when we said we're on the Cincinnati, what he was saying was the profit Bill Belichick. Excuse me, media mogul Bill Belichick was saying years from now, I will be on the Cincinnati. Correct. That's where I'll finish. That would make a lot of sense. By Zach Taylor, I'll do some damage, my friend. And Bill like it. Bill Belichick. We have more on the Cincinnati. Loves history loves Paul Brown, respects Mike Brown more than probably a lot of people do. There's a, there's a historic thread there in Cincinnati. I'm just saying, if we're going to say the Jets and the, the Bills and the cowboys and the Packers and the Eagles, why not add the Bengals to the list? If they underachieve, maybe Bill Belichick will be taking over for Zach Taylor. Interesting. I do not dislike that take in the least bit. I smell a column or at least a take tomorrow afternoon on the WEI afternoon show with our pal Andy Hardin, of course, Christian Arcand as well. We will get to your calls in just a few minutes, everybody. But as we like to do here on the post game show in losses and in wins, whether we celebrate or commiserate, we do it together. And we always hear from the coach and the starting quarterback. So let's now share with you the first ever post game remarks in victory. No less from Patriots head coach Jerrod Mayo. Well, I thought the guys went out there and competed hard. We talked about establishing the run game and being able to stop their running game, making one dimensional, did a good job with that. I'll say we still left a lot of plays out there, but we're going to enjoy this one on the flight home and get ready for next week. But very proud, my message to the players, they gave me the Gatorade Shower and things like that. But without them, I'm nothing. So I made sure they knew that. They crossed the white lines. I always talk about empowering the players to go out there and play. I always talk about awareness really being the number one thing. And those guys taking ownership. So all the praise goes to those guys and they did a great job. Jerrod, you've been waiting for this day for quite a while. I just said, well, what was your day like and what was it like to walk off that field and go into that locker room with a win? Yeah, the day started off solid, just like any other day. Walking off the field, though, really getting in that victory formation. You know, just kind of feel the rush over yourself. And I'm going to enjoy this one here for the next couple of hours. But truth be told, you know, it's whatever you've done for me lately type of business. So time to turn the page. I'm not trying to rant on anyone's parade, but turn the page and get ready for the next game. How do you describe the experience drug making those decisions, you know, facing work down, maybe thinking you might be in two-down territory? Like, how did you just find this stuff right through your mind and being able to make the decisions? It was just part of, you know, I've been playing football my entire life. And I was a great Madden player back in the day. But I understand situational football. I would also say our staff understand situational football. And, you know, we talk through those things. And like I said all week, I have to make the ultimate decision. Felt good about the way it operated today. [INAUDIBLE] Yeah, they came out on fire. We challenged those guys. Everyone's talking about, you know, since he's offense and, you know, how explosive they are. And they answered the call up front, started up front. All those defensive linemen, you know, those guys did a good job controlling the line of scrimmage. The second, you know, second level players, the LBS. They did a good job coming downhill, a couple of plays in the past game. And then really our safeties and corners, those guys did a good job covering. So it was a total unit victor. [INAUDIBLE] I challenged Ramondre in the spring. I said, look, you don't get a lot of love, a lot of hype. But I've always believed that he's one of the best running backs in the league. And, you know, when we signed him to the extension, there was no more happy than me because I know what he's capable of. And he showed that today. He can catch the ball at the back field. He can run, break tackles and do all those things. So he's a great player. [INAUDIBLE] You guys kind of hit that formula. Or was it like to kind of see that come together? It was great. It was great. You always come in with the plan. You know, they say, God laughs at plans. And what Mike Tyson says, everyone has a plan so you get hit in the mouth. But, you know, in the first half, we're averaging 6.1 yards a carry. And able to control, once again, the front. And, you know, defensively, you know, we did a good job against their run game until the second half, there are a few runs. But, you know, I'll start it up there. Next one. He has the next one. It's almost like double Dutch. Is he double Dutch? He's like hesitating to get in. Next one. [LAUGHTER] [INAUDIBLE] Sorry. [INAUDIBLE] You know, I would say the way we were running the ball. I felt pretty confident about that. That was, you know, from the beginning to the end, really, our offensive line, they did a great job, led by David Andrews. And, you know, big Mike, those guys did a great job, having low here as well. It was good to, you know, get him in the game. And they were moving bodies, and that's what it's about. And so when I talk about fundamentals, that's part of it. You know, defensively, block instruction. Offensively, opening up gaps, opening up holes. And those guys did that today. [INAUDIBLE] Nope, nope, nope, nope. [LAUGHTER] I guess. [INAUDIBLE] Right. [INAUDIBLE] Yeah, it was special, it was special, and, you know, I just want to thank, you know, the Kraft family, Robert, John, all of them, Danny, all those guys, Josh, just for the opportunity, and really, for not really, you know, getting in the middle of anything that we do football wise, they've pretty much turned the keys over to Elliot and myself, and the rest of the staff. And I'm just appreciative of the opportunity, and I'm glad that, you know, we came in here today and represented the Krafts in a good light. Coach, you mentioned Kobe versus a proficient decision-making ability to protect the ball. What did you think about his effort? Sorry, I said again. I was Kobe for a second. You mentioned his decision-making on court capitalism, and started quarterbacking. What did you think it was? It was great. It was great. He made plays with his legs. He made plays with his arm. And, you know, he just played a-- he's a tough guy. I'm telling you, he took some hits in the game. I'm just like, man, get up. But he did everything that we asked him to do in the week, and we came out of here with the victor. [INTERPOSING VOICES] Yeah, Mr. Kraft gave me a ball. So are you wanting to make them-- Absolutely, absolutely keeping that one. And then I also gave Elliot a ball, so I think it's a special moment. Who do you think of, you know, when it comes to this first win, and what it means to you and your family, and just people that have helped you along for sure? Yeah, you know, a lot of people talk about how they're self-made and things like that. But we've all had people that have helped us along the way. And, you know, I definitely think about my family. I think about my grandparents. I think about my popcorner coaches and all the people who instilled, not only the exes and noes on football, but also just how to operate in life. And one thing, you know, you guys would notice about me, I mean, you can write whatever you want to write, I'm pretty much like, stoic, I'm stoic. I try not to get too high, I try not to get too low. And that's always been my mentality from a little kid up until now. That was my first day to read Bath, yeah. It was cold, it was cold. I felt worse for my shoes, I was like, yeah, these are done. Ladies first, no bad. You guys were betting underdogs in all 17 interviews. I think we were a very popular survivor pick, like the Bengals were a very popular survivor group this week, like, did you use that as a motivation? Not at all, not at all. And we, you know, we try not to hear anything on the outside. And I tell those guys, all we, it's all about us in this building. There's no one going to come in here on a white shining horse and save the day. And I said, look, you guys are here for a reason. And it's all we got and it's all we need. David, was there any earlier if you wanted to ask you, how does it feel winning as a coach versus winning as a player? How does it feel? What is the difference for you? Yeah, I've talked about my calling a lot and, you know, winning as a coach is huge. And once again, not for what it does for me, but what it does for those players out there. You know, I just can't say enough about about the players. What is good also, in fact, you talked all week long about complementary football. And you seem to get it at its best for the offense defense and specialty. Yeah, you know, those guys just playing hand in hand and we had a plan. They knew the plan. It was articulated well throughout the week and they executed. You know, you can have all the mantras and things that you want. But on game day, it all comes down to execution. You can have all the raw, raw speeches. It's all about discipline. And so those are the things that hopefully that we can continue to build on going forward. Yeah, it showed up in the run game was just like, hey, keep going. You know, I did talk about this. So when I was a Friday, when, you know, you looked at those other games and conditioning definitely showed up and I would say our guys are in good condition. Get a home opener coming up next Sunday, anything to the fans who should say it back to them? You know, for the fans, you know, hopefully they see what we're trying to build and I talk about it takes time and we're still not where we want to be, but we're headed in the right direction. Do you think your decision to have a lot of ground players, players, players in the preseason? Do you think that showed up to that? I'm not sure. You know, I asked some friends like how the Ravens and how the Chiefs practice and how their camp went and it was like totally, you know, totally into the spectrum. And I would say those were two teams where I was like, man, they're getting tired here and that's why I was so heavy on that with our team. Yeah, I'm not sure to answer your question. Yeah. I mean, there comes a point in time where they know we're going to run it. We know we're going to run it and all the fans know that we're going to run it and we're going to have to pick up four yards and that's the challenge that I always offer those guys and look, it's really man on man in those instances has nothing to do really with X's and O's is about, you know, dominating the player across from me and those guys did that. Yeah. Two final questions? Yeah. You keep doing that now. Go ahead. Go ahead. I was going to say you admit it's being stowing, but what other emotions would you reveal? Are you happy inside? Oh, I'm absolutely happy. I don't want, I don't want you to take, you know, this whole stove says and that's being unhappy. That's not what I'm saying. I'm definitely happy to get out of here with the win and happy for the players in the organization. Yeah, you know, we just kept it moving. We ran a bunch of different coverages, a bunch of different fronts. And then they're in the second half, there are a lot more, you know, quick passes. They were trying to get them in a rhythm. That's how, that's how I felt. That's how I was seeing the game and you know, he had a couple of big plays, but we said, look, if we win the turnover battle, we don't give a big place, I will be okay to make these guys drive it. That's what we did. Thank God. All right, there you have it, ladies and gentle fans, the first ever official NFL game post game press conference from Gerard Mayo and his first ever press conference after a win is head coach of the New England Patriots. Andy, quick reaction to what he had to say and how he said it today. I liked it. I mean, I thought he balanced positivity with realistic expectations and sort of the challenges and the, you know, that coaching aspect of there's another game next week. The stoic thing was weird to me describing himself as stoic. It's kind of like nick naming yourself. I don't know if you really want to describe yourself or nickname yourself, like let others do that as they observe how your career goes, but no, I thought he did a good job, but it's always easier to do a good job after an upset victory on the road. And it's always easy to frame it the right way, call yourself what you want and just go, that was definitely what we had in the plan. That's what we talked about all week. I mean, they may have done none of it got got super lucky. Yes, the Bengals did play like the ass that Gabriel Peppers said. The Patriots played like last year against the New York Giants, but again, sometimes you just have to be the right team in the right place at the right time and play the game the right way. And I think that's exactly what Gerard Mayo preached all week. That's what they've been working on and what a nice turnabout of events. That was indeed six, one, seven, seven, seven, nine, seven, nine, three, seven is your telephone number. Come back, react more to Gerard Mayo's comments after the Patriots big win today in Cincinnati against the Bengals. We'll hear from starting quarterback Jacobi Bursett. There'll be a whole lot of you guys will hear from Megadon Alini from the pregame show and W E E I dot com. But first, why don't we catch up on everything else going on in the wide, wide, wild world of sports with our producer, Joe Braverman. Yeah. You know, a lot of people talk about how they're self made and things like that, but we've all had people that have helped us along the way. And you know, I definitely think about my family, I think about my grandparents, I think about my popcorner coaches and all the people who instilled not only the exes and knows and football, but also just how to operate in life. And one thing, you know, you guys will notice about me and you can write whatever you want to write. I'm pretty much like, stoic, I'm stoked. I try not to get too high. I try not to get too low. And that's always been my mentality from a little kid up until now. Patriots head coach Gerard Mayo moments ago in his first ever post NFL game presser, his first presser as head coach and as a winner in the NFL, describing himself as a bit stoic. Andy, I believe when he said that it's not stoic as in he sits around in a pensive meditative state, you know, making taking his time making decisions rather just someone in the contemporary sense of someone who understands there was a finality to things and tries to work his way through obstacles, because as has been made known in recent years with stoicism on the rise as a fundamental bully for a lot of people, what is it, what's it called the only way is through and the object is the way I can see him sort of adhering to that principle. And of course, all of that philosophical gobbledygook and new age, who he do he sounds a whole lot better in victory than it does in defeat. Yes, absolutely. In other news, since we were listening to Mayo and then we were in a commercial break, I get a text from a buddy who said, are you watching this four o'clock game around air? Brady is horrible. I have I have really reviews. I've I've read so so far we've got some audio from Brady that we will share later on in the post game show here live on W E I have heard he's okay, he's a little blah. I think he's doing well. And one friend just said, wow, Brady talks a lot. Yeah. People are going to air on the side of positivity, quite honestly, because he's Tom Brady and no one ever wants to criticize him. So I think if if people give him a C, anyone else would get an F if people give him an A, it's probably a C. He's going to get kind grades. Hey, it's not just teams and players that everyone over reacts to after week one. Oh, yeah. Well, but the difference is when Tony Romo did week one, Chad Finn said he was the greatest color commentator in the game. He was incredible. He honestly did weren't you blown away by that first name he did a couple years ago? No, I wasn't. I was not at all. I was like the only one who said, this guy's annoying. He talks a lot. Yeah, he predicted some plays, but I would hope he should. He just came from the field. He should know every defense. He should know every team. He should be ready to tell us things like that. And when that dries up, you're in trouble. Well, there are a lot of things that people are going to pick apart on overreaction Monday, one of the more entertaining days on the NFL calendar. I'm sure you guys will have a blast with it tomorrow on the afternoon show. We'll actually even get to some of it later on in our program as well. We're also going to get to Jacoby for sets remarks in just a few minutes. Meghan Onalini calls in at six o'clock to share her thoughts on what was a huge win. And as Joe Braverman said earlier, a massive upset on week one of the NFL calendar. I want to get to some of the calls first, though, Andy, then I want to share a few things I picked up from some of our fabulous beat reporters that were sharing nuggets, wisdom and sound clips from a very festive Patriots locker room. But like I said, to the calls, this show belongs to the Pats people. We go all the way down for the first call today, an extended part of Pat's nation in Georgia, where Big Al wants to weigh in on the six rings post game show. All right, big Al. Tell us. Hello. Good afternoon. And who could blame our coach for being a little jovial in this post game press conference. He might even burn some cash tonight. Who knows? Let the guy have it. It's fun. Okay. That's what I'm talking about. Big Al. Let's all go out and find a foxy lady and burn some cash. God knows I've done that more than I care to admit, but look, as far as the quarterback goes, if there are two words in the football lexicon that I could like, I'd like to bring out my Big Al massive delete key and just eliminate them from the discussion of this great game would be the two words game manager. For God's sake, what is supposed to be wrong with a game manager if he's standing here with the game ball at the end and you know, Bart Starr was a game manager. Tom Brady, Joe Lankan, all great quarterbacks that won all these big games where you could say we're game managers and how many really Super Bowl wins to do the so-called gun flingers that we fall in love with? How many did Tony Romo have? You mentioned him a moment ago. Brett Favre, one, thanks to Reggie White and you know, Dan Marino, zero. Now I'm not saying Mark Rippen had a better career than Dan Marino because Mark Rippen got a ring and Dan Marino didn't, but these guys that we hype up as these gun flingers, you know, they're not standing there with a trophy usually at the end. It's the game managers that are. So God bless your Kobe for that. If he was a game manager today, good for him. I'll take 16 more. That's all for us. Have a great day. Thanks. It was a great first call. Big Al. Thanks very much for weighing in. I love the call. I mean, I think it conveniently left out Patrick Mahomes, who's far more a gunslinger than he is a game manager. See, that's the thing, Andy. I was going to ask now, can you tell me where does in your mind or the mind of many Pat's, excuse me, just NFL fans in general, where does Mahomes fall? Because I feel like he does at this point now, like, I'm sorry, he's just, he's the best player in football, maybe ever. And I know that's the shot your mouth to throw one of those like beetle juice zippers across my lips for saying as much. He's legitimately in the conversation for greatest football player of all time. But where does he fall as far as like gunslinger or is he just a gamer? He's not just a game manager, but he's shown the discipline to get what needs done done. Like last year in the AFC Championship on the road, what was that 1710? And once again, the Ravens blew that game as badly as the will say, the Bengals blew today. He played like a game manager and got it done. Yeah. And the great ones have both in them. Like I don't think Tom Brady was a game manager. I think Tom Brady had gunslinger in him when he needed to like correct or wanted to. Maybe not even needed to. Sometimes when he just wanted to, there were certain bees in his bonnet like the 2007 season. He became a gunslinger and they decided what did he say wasn't to beat people by 50 and kick ass and like, like he became a gunslinger that the great ones have both in them because that's what it requires. And today was a game manager game. You could win game managing thanks to the Bengals, the way they played, thanks to your offensive line and the ground game, the way they played. Now the question is, if you need gunslinger Jacobi Brissette to give your down 10 with eight minutes to go in the second half and you need to, you know, put together a couple of drives, you need to touchdown the ground game sputtering. I need you to throw it 18 times in a row. Can he do that? My guess would be no, but I don't know why we need to, we don't need to get big picture today, do we? Can we? Can we say little picture? Because I think the bigger the picture you get, you get back to negativity. And today is a day where there should be some positivity in Patriot Nation. They earned positivity. It's the old coach 24 hour role, right? I heard Billy O'Brien say it last week after the, the upset of FSU. You get 24 hours. Enjoy it. Celebrate it. Positivity today. Negativity. Wait, maybe tomorrow afternoon between two and six, you can find some negativity. But today is more objectivity tomorrow, sir. Yeah. Objectivity. No negativity. We move the negativity. He's on the midday still. Negativity has been rescheduled. We apologize in advance if that is inconvenient for the one and many. Well, you know, I, I will actually, you know, right here before we hear from Jacoby Brissette and we'll give you the full breath of his remarks, post game in just a couple of minutes here. I would like to discuss Big Al's call on the notion of a game manager, how Brissette played overall and not that I want to. It's not about opening up the can of worms. We're playing radio. It's a post game show. We've got the time to pull these things apart. See how the string cheese pulls, if you will, and examine it. How do they play today? And what does today look like because we can afford to do this just for fun? What does today look like if Drake may plays instead of Jacoby Brissette? That's a great question. It's a weird question because there was some Drake meant like those runs I think of more as Drake may plays than Jacoby Brissette plays. There was at least three runs he picked up with his legs, first downs. Does he make a couple more plays? I thought Jacoby Brissette was flustered by the pressure. Maybe Drake may runs out of some of those pressures a little bit better, but also maybe he makes a mistake. Now, I would argue Jacoby Brissette made the mistake Hunter Henry. I'm just going to say, did he almost throw a picture? Not almost. He threw a pick at Hunter Henry, knocked to Hunter Henry, pulled Jonathan Jones, Malcolm Butler, Logan Ryan, you know how we always credit the Patriots veteran corners for finishing the plays and never giving up and knock. That's what Hunter Henry did. Otherwise, Jacoby Brissette had a key interception in the end zone, red zone, kind of like we saw in the preseason. This story could be totally different. You know, ifs, the buts, the kindies, the nuts, as Peter King would say, forget them all. He didn't make the hellacious mistake. The Bengals made the hellacious mistakes. Jacoby Brissette picked up the plays he needed to make to work with a complimentary running game and do what they needed to do. He also got popped. There was a couple of times in there I was wondering, is Drake may going to need to warm up here? Because there was a limp at one point from Jacoby Brissette. There was a time when he threw both hands up like, get me off the ground, it hurts down here, kind of motion. It hurts down here or being down on the ground, being down on the ground or down here or both. But no, like, and I know everybody said, you know, four weeks, five weeks, whatever, or he's going to get knocked out, there's, you know, Jacoby Brissette earned more playing time, correct? Winds earn him more playing time. Oh, I don't think the New England Patriots coaching staff, including Alex van Peltz, who deserves his flowers, and we'll get to the kinds of games that the coordinators called later today. And I think we're all a little bit more impressed by the two of them. How come he didn't get a shower? He should have gotten a Gatorade bath. Yeah. You know what? There should have been a, you know what? You can't line up two coordinators and a coach and say, like, guys, like, it's, it's like, that's like organizing someone for like a family photo versus just an impromptu coach's Gatorade bath. But don't they, they must have more than one Gatorade jug on the sideline. Big team, lots of, lots of bottles to fill. They should. Multiple Gatorade. It's tough to pull off. I feel like Alex van Peltz and Demarcus Covington should have gotten some Gatorade, too. It was their first coordinator play caller lead the, lead the unit kind of game and they were both very, very good. Their guys should have helped them out. Not Springer so much. Sorry, Jeremy Springer. Your guy jumped off sides on the first play. But otherwise special teams looked, uh, yes, for the most part, you had the big turnover with, uh, Captain Cardona, I like that, by the way. Does anyone else have that on their Patriots bingo card today, Joe Cardona causing a fumble on special teams? It was a legit forced fumble. Now it's bad on the, the punt returner, but he put his hat on the ball. He legitimately put his helmet on the football, um, to make that happen. So that, that was, no, I did not expect that, but there were a lot of things in this game. I didn't expect good and bad, both directions, uh, for both teams. So that's opening day. And you're right about that reactionary Monday. So the Bengals stink. Correct. Mm hmm. And the Patriots are awesome. That's all we can go with right now. Oh, there's plenty more of those. And we'll get to that in just a little bit when we share some of the other sounds of Sunday coming up. But I, I did want to just add to your, to your idea of Drake May. I also think that the Patriots, like the, it may have been an ultimately similar result. Now there could have been a force throw from Drake May. There could have been some more runs from Drake May today. Maybe he's, he puts a little bit more on the ball to get it to some of those receivers when the pocket was collapsing and he was flushed to the left or the right. But I'm not going to say that they would have done it much. If any better and you certainly cannot take away from Jacoby reset that he played with a poison, a presence necessary in a game where a conservative approach mixed with tenacious defense and fundamentally sound if not violent tackling was going to be the game plan and it wasn't. It was executed to the team's best of ability. Look, again, for everyone who may now that were a little bit more than an hour into the post game show may say, now this is too much positivity. We need a little bit more objectivity about this team. Look, no one is, no one is saying buy your tickets for the Super Bowl unless you just want to go and you've got a ton of money because the Pats will be there in New Orleans in February. No one is saying, you know, the print the playoff tickets. No one is even saying they're going to win more games than they're going to lose. However, I do feel a little more comfortable saying that you should believe that your Patriots are going to be in more games than not this year, that they're going to try their ass off and you're going to be proud of them. They may actually turn a few heads for the right reasons, not the wrong ones, surprise some people and be on the track for growth and development. Andy, could you ask much more at this point in the season? Yeah, you asked a little too much of me there. I'm not really willing to say any of that. I'm willing to say they brought it today and they play a very good game because I do. I continue. The NFL is is it's a meat grinder. It is an absolute meat grinder. And if you let up at all or you presume and assume at all, it will eat you alive. And I just that it was a really good game. I enjoyed it. I want to, you know, I really want to focus on the game and the good things they did in the game and the great, you know, the memes of, of Keon White at the podium after kicking ass and taking names. But I also want to be careful that the cart doesn't start rolling really fast down the hill and the horse is like, whoa, whoa, I got to catch up like the dog and fricking, the, the Grinch, right? Like, we got to be careful here. You got to be careful. Not expected reference, but a salient one at that as well. We got some calls. I want to take in just a second. We'll hear from Jacobi reset on the other side of the people. I know I'm going to, but I did just want to share this. Mark Daniels had a couple of great tweets on his feed today from Mass Live from the cadre of coverage that comes from Mass Live with, of course, our friends, Chris Mason and the great Karen Gregan. He is at by Mark Daniels, he had a tweet heard in the background while Christian Gonzalez was talking about covering Jamar Chase someone. So heard in the background meeting one of the, one of his teammates said, quote, he was like, he's not getting a new contract on me. Christian Gonzalez will talk about him in a bit played very well today. Devon God show said it was disrespectful that the Patriots came into this game as 8.5 point underdogs. Okay. How about this too? Jabril peppers said his leg would have to fall off to keep him out. And Mark Daniels retweeted this from Chris Mason, this tweet from just a little over an hour ago from Chris Mason, Jabril peppers said he could barely walk because of his hip yesterday. It hurt so badly. Aggravated it at practice Friday. He only got two hours of sleep that night. There was no pool at the team hotel and since he. So he needed to go to a holiday in to work it out. And then you saw that kind of game today, Andy. I mean, these guys, well, my guess is he probably had some chemical assistance. Wait, why did we sniff there? What was that? What was that all about? I think he probably got shot up with something that helped just as much as the whole. I hope it was an injection and not a, you know, I mean, oh, I don't know, not, not though. I'm just saying, I think, wait, did the Patriots cut back on the travel budget under Gerard Mayo or something? They don't have a pool in the hotel. Couldn't even get a swim the night before the holiday in was nicer than their hotel. Isn't that a problem? I mean, I just, what's going on there? I traveled many years with the Patriots and I'm pretty sure every hotel I was ever in had a pool. What are you doing here? All right. Well, you try to, uh, while you try to fire up the recollection machine, we'll go back to the phone lines to hear from the people, the good people of Patriots nation tuned in to the best post game and show on the six rings post game show on W.E.I. Gillian's in Chelmsford. How are you, Gillian? Hi. Good. What's going on? I just want to say. Well, what I really saw today, and I hope it's the beginning of this, is I saw what thought it was a return to Patriot Way. I feel like what we always did was just execute better than every state, everybody else, not make mistakes, play clean, really make the most of everything, coach well, do special teams well, do everything well, and that's what I saw today. And it was like, maybe Belitec was too old and too tired to do it, and Jerome is doing it again. And you never know how well you can do if that's what your focus is and the discipline is there, which is what I noticed. Uh, yeah, you know, I think in a lot of ways, and Gillian, thank you very much for the phone call. Enjoy your night. Just like you. Hopefully you enjoyed that game today. Jerome, I was going to say, I thought, just kidding, Gillian, we're just Gillian, we're allowed to have a little fun with that. His name is Gerard, Gerard Mayo, but I agree with our morning show co host, Wiggy, says he calls him Gerard on purpose just to be Wiggy, but I don't think that's on purpose either. It happens, but I agree with her tone, and I will say I would also start with very Bella Chichian, not Mayan approach. He also might was before you can win. You have to not lose the net. The Bengals never got past the not lose part. The Patriots got past the not lose part. Maybe they would have lost if they had kept in chukso Corifor. Maybe that would have been a factor in more negative plays or, you know, if from Andre Stevenson couldn't have recovered his own fumble, you know, there were places in there where the Patriots could have gone a little sideways. They didn't. They avoided losing, and then in the end, they were able to win. The Bengals never avoided the losing part, so they never got to the winning part. That's a very, very fair point as well. And they're Jillian's point to the idea. Let's call her Jolene. Just to be honest. Yeah. All right. Jolene's point. Janice's point from before about the Patriots playing the way that she remembered that they used to play in so much as just being fundamentally sound, special teams, let the other team make the mistakes. You capitalize on those mistakes when you can and you don't beat yourself. Yes, there were all those hallmarks were there. That's why this feels like a little bit of a throwback win and also no one expected them to be able to play that soundly. They gave up no sacks today. The Patriots through no interceptions. They lost zero fumbles. That's massive. Patriots. Oh, one of the one of the one of the one of the one of the things about the double then elastic run Andy, they always used to win the turnover battle and guess what? They won more games and they lost during that time period. Most coaches will tell you you'll win more games than you lose if you win the turnover battle as well. Pretty much at every level. You know, it's pretty clear cut way to win and or lose at pop Warner or high school at college or NFL win the turnover battle and you got a really good shot to win the game and they did that today. And if they can continue to do that, if we want to, if we want to make that a core part of the Mayo portion of the Patriot way and then mix in run game and solid tackling, I'm going to go back to the tackling. I think the tackling is going to get overlooked in this game because it's not as flashy as turnovers and it's not a battle on, you know, typical stat sheets or whatever that everybody compares. I think the difference in tackling the Patriots strength in tackling and the Bengals weakness in tackling may have decided this football game as much as the turnovers. It's a very fair point in considering that you got a couple of football hard o's who love getting down the trenches and breaking it down with you. Yeah. We'll strap on the old football machine and get down on the trenches football stuff. What are we doing here? In just moments. Also, all the college you guys hang tight will get to you in just a minute. We'll hear from Jacobi recette on the other side as well. Megan Onalini calls in at six. Ah, what a time to be alive and what a way to kick off the season. Pat's win. They beat the Bengals. You get the six rings post game show. We're all in a great mood. Don't go anywhere. We'll be right back. Jerome is doing it again. Every one of you contributed. I'm so proud of the new players, the new coaches, people at all the excuses that couldn't happen, but you all did it. And I'm spoiled now. I'm going to count on a lot more. Oh, yeah. We just didn't start it. Most importantly, we've given you this number. New England Patriots owner and president Robert Kraft celebrating with his team in the locker room in Cincinnati following their big opening 16 to 10 victory where they were eight and a half point underdogs on the road and awarding a game ball to head coach Gerad Mayo getting his first win in the NFL. How do you like that? It's nice to hear. Isn't it nice? Just nice. Just there's good vibes today. Yes. I mean, if you spend enough time on Twitter, people are going to say, ah, the Bengals lost this game more. The Patriots really suck. And you'll also read a lot of people being very critical of Tom Brady so far in his demeanor to him than they are to me. And I predicted Owen 17. I know. That's true. I wonder right now, it seems like Belichick is getting the advantage in the media war between the greatest coach in the greatest quarterback of all time. Oh, absolutely. Did you see his video earlier when he responded to Brady's Instagram jab from the back of his boat in Nantucket Harbor that wasn't sure if I was watching a scene from the perfect couple or if that was actually Bill Belichick on Insta face once again, what a weird time. What a weird time indeed. And yet still here are the Patriots turning things around playing like the Patriots of old, if not for just a day, maybe a few more times this season. But I've been enjoying it and seems the fans have as well. And speaking of which, let's go back to the good people of Pat's nation on the line right now. Let's go to Matt and Rhode Island. Hi, Matt. Hey, what's up, guys, 50 the the the lower 50 grows as you get on the Monday, Greg Hill show and you when you filled in a week before the game, I'm most calling for the win and standing in the pocket while that guy scrim just eviscerated you. I couldn't be more proud of you, buddy. You're you're you're you're you're you're you're greatness, but um, has he ever picked the game? I mean, hey, the bangle stunk today, there's gonna be, you know, probably five or six of these wins, hopefully you're gonna, you know, you have to you have to enjoy them. I want to say though, I I I saw a bit more than I thought I would at the offense. Um, I think you did you can count on them to improve, um, they can throw them all much today if they did, you know, they said, you know, 290 17 18 first down. So I mean, I could translate against them, so, um, I think you gotta take two times. Thanks, Matt. Thanks very much for calling in. I have I have picked against the Patriots before. Yes. I've thought team and I was wrong. I've been right sometimes. I've been wrong as well. I just had a feeling in my gut today, excuse me, the way things lined up that do you said you had a feeling in your gut and then you almost threw up on yourself. What is going on? I just I I had a little I had a quick I had a quick carbohydrate on the break with a sip of soda pop just to make sure I could keep the energy level high because I want to stay. I've been up here for the majority of the post game show so far and I can only be booed so long by my natural energy because eventually with all this talking, I'll probably kind of get down here and I want to stay up here performance hands enhancers. What do you bury bonds? Oh, for God. Like you've never had an energy drink or a caffeinated beverage on there. Yeah, there's been there's been plenty of shows Andy where you've been high on C4s. Those are only nighttime shows with rich Keith and it's really about the drive home, not as much the show. If you must know, I had no idea you had a premium membership to the excuse factory let alone that you shop there every day uses or reasons given by losers. Oh boy, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why are we doing this now? Let's let's turn our attention back to the positive thing. Let me ask you a question. I call Matt. I do very much off. Off Matt's call. Do you want to make us a full like a some say outrageous. I thought it was fundamentally sound prediction like that. It's just because I thought if the pets were going to surprise anybody, they were going to play mad. They were going to surprise some people. The the Bengals would come in a little flat because there wasn't a lot of practice between Higgins and Burrow and Chase and Burrow like their chemistry is off right now. Where's the Patriots? We're going to probably come out angry and play a will show you type of game. So the stars aligned today, Hudson would give you the ball before scoring a touchdown. They made the mistakes in the past advantage. What you going to do about it, huh? Off Matt's call. Do you want to cover reset throwing the ball more because I don't. I sure as a matter of fact, let's go to the statisticals. That would be the stats with balls from today's Patriots victory. Wow. There's some surprising results in this particular Sunday. On the Sunday today, Ramandre Stevenson, he was your leading bulk, 25 carries, 120 yards and a touchdown. When we go, remember I said, I believe it was a couple of days ago on our six rings podcast, the preview edition that if Jacobi was set through the ball less than 20, remember I said the over under 24 and a half. He said, if he throws more than 24 and a half, Pat will be in trouble, fewer than they have a good chance to win 15 for 24, huh, just, I mean, I was all give me my flowers. I was on today. No, I'll give you that. That's a good number. I won't give you the victory because you're the Fred Kirsch of this show. I've lived that life for years. You guys always pick the favorite. Do you hear what I have to deal with on a regular basis here? I do. The truth is never mean. It's best for me. If it's easy to just sit back and let them run with it. I agree, Joe, stay out of the crosshairs. Hey, pipe down. Any moment. Yeah. Joe, Kobe percent on the day, 15 for 24, 121 yards, a five yard per pass attempt average. I believe I said earlier today that he was not sacked. I think there was technically one sack on the day, 75 quarterback rating. Not great. Nope. But also good enough to win. Hey, you know what? Joe burrow through the ball more times, Joe burrow through for more yards and had a higher passer rating. You know what else he has? A loss. You know, else he has $220 million. That and a bunch of teammates he should kick their ass after the game for screwing up his opening day, but no, I give you Kobe set for set credit because you say he wasn't sacked only once. Well, he was hit seven times and some of them very hard. Yeah. I'm not going to say that he's not going to need the cold tub or have to swing by a hundred drill peppers holiday in pool afterward. He'll be feeling it this week as well, or a cognac or whatever he drinks. Whatever he drinks he should. Hey, who not? It could be a G&T. It could be a Pepsi zero could be, you know, ice cold and arrogance it. My tree. First rounds on me. Those may be that probably become more than one come and barky. You're leading tackler on the day 12 tackles total for Juwan Bentley seven solo. He was good. He was good. Yeah. My sax key on white hat today, by the way, two and a half. You know, he's going to have on the year 42 and a half for a few multiply two point five times 17. It's 42 and a half. How about that? Huh? Those are just statistics. People want me to stick with the numbers because when I tell them other things and opinions they get mad. They'll stick into the facts. He has two and a half sacks in one game. He will have 42 and a half stats of the losers. Yeah, Bill, but the Patriots are winners today, two and a half sacks in the first game. That's a pretty good way for someone that we thought would not come anywhere near the production results of a Matt Judon and such on the season on the whole. That's pretty damn impressive as well. Maybe he took advantage of the matchup. I mean, you did have a old pal Trent Brown on one side and Orlando Brown on the other. I thought the Bengals had when they drafted a Marius Mims, obviously he was a scratch today. He's been injured for a good portion of the preseason and now into the regular season. I thought the Bengals had short up some of their offensive line issues, either the Patriots can generate a pass rush. The Bengals have a bad line or both? Maybe a little bit of both, but they also they moved key on white around. They were putting him inside. I think that's where he's going to win, quite honestly. I think those are matchups that favor him with his power and his relative athleticism and quickness. I think when you put him on the right side, yes, I don't think he necessarily matches up. He's not a freak on the edges. He's not a Miles Garrett type where you're just like, this is the greatest, fastest, quickest, strongest, longest athlete on the planet. So the more he inside reps, he gets. I think that that's where he wins his matchups. Now, the problem is they're going to have to make sure they're getting some production on the edges. Whether that's Jennings or Uche, sorry, I almost said Uche because it's always been Uche. Or did that come? When did you make that decision? And could someone the same people that told Mayo not to say young Thundercat anymore probably should have said Uche is fine. Well, plus, if your name was Uche, it should have been Uche from day one, right? Like, I don't care whether you're good or first round pick anything. Like, if I walk in somewhere and somebody goes heart, hey, or fart or Fandy or whatever, I'm correcting them. I'm not. Yum Thundercat. That'd be like me. Quite honestly. You know what? That'd be like me. Now. Oh, I'm on the afternoon program now. I've changed my name. I want to go by Andre or something like, no, my name's Andy Hart. It's always been Andy Hart. And if it wasn't Andy Hart, I would have told you from the beginning, it wasn't Andy Hart. So how do we get to Uche? I don't know how we get to Uche, but I know it's time for us to take a brieach. And when we come back, we will have Meghan O'Toll and I are.
