[MUSIC PLAYING] Fan morning shows, 4759 at the fan, fan out of Sam McKee. I've embarrassed and started to tell you, Ben. OK. So I was up with, like I said, in the 6 o'clock hour, I've been on sound this weekend. And like I do when I go up there, put some golf, went to my beloved legacy ridge in on sound. You're welcome for that free ad legacy. And incredible course. And I played with my mom, my dad, and Ali, who's wonderfully improved at golf. And she is just like, she's a totally capable player. She loves it. Loves it. She plays 18 holes. Play as 18 holes. She walked. She just looks like a golfer. I'm so proud of her. She took lessons. Nope. She's just self-taught. Listen to me a little bit, which is not the great idea. But anyways. She also a lefty? Nope. It's tough to teach. Yeah. So anyways, I'm playing on the front nine at legacy. I played incredibly well. I shot even par. Wow. Shot 36. Good for you. Had three birdies, including going back to back on eight and nine. Oh my god. On the back nine, I shot 45. So I didn't break. Didn't break 70. I just didn't break 80. I just didn't even part in the front. Yeah, that's rough. And on 16 there, which is a really long par five tough hole, I hit up great drive. And I was still in range of breaking 80, which is my goal. I was like, I can clean this up and clean this up. Yeah, but it's not like you. Yeah, you do that routinely. Yes. Yeah, but I still like to do it. Sure. I would like to do it. Yeah. And I hit a great drive. I'm sitting in the middle of a fairway. I have a five wood in my hand. One of my beloved five wood, which you know. And I just blast one into the woods like heart. And I looked at Ali. And you know me, I'm very calm on the golf course. Oh, yeah, you're chill, man. I hit it on the ground once. And then I looked at Ali and she said, don't do it. Oh, and I went whack. And I snapped the shaft of my five wood in half. No way. I had a little rang. I rang that I rang that it was at the culmination of a lot of bad things. And it just-- Is that the first time you ever done that? Yes, of course. And I was embarrassed. And my parents witnessed it. And it was a bad scene. I had to go to the pro shop after. Because I was playing the next day. I'm like to my friend Sam. And then pro shop, I'm like, can I borrow a demo? Because I broke my-- It was a whole thing. I was very embarrassed. And did you know it was going to break when you-- No, no. It was, I mean, it's a 2007 burner with the same shaft that's been in there. Like, it's probably due. But that was just like a quick smash on the ground? Yes, it was frayed. Because I'm of the belief that, OK, you don't want to-- It was a double hit. You don't want to hit. I went one, and then I went harder again. And you don't want to make a scene. You don't want to be that guy that's-- That's throwing clubs and swearing. But I will say that there is-- I think there is a place in golf for the single giant smash, like turf in your golf club. I doubled twice. Barying like your seven iron into the ground. It's a great field. Into the ground. I needed it, right? And then anyways, I walked up to where I hit it into the woods. And it was sitting up perfectly. And I got it out and up and down for par. So I broke my club for absolutely no reason. I didn't even make a triple. I know. Anyways, and then on the $18 hit one on the patio. So-- Wasn't it very eventful back in '94 before? It was exciting. It was very exciting. And the patio is OB. It crossed me through my route. That makes sense, as the patio would be. Anyways, that was my afternoon at Legacy Ridge. Well, shot a sparkling '81. Yeah, which is not bad, but yeah, given the circumstances. The process was uncrapped. [LAUGHTER] It's about the journey, not the end result. Anyways, so there might be more than a few Canadian golfers today who are going to be smashing their clubs in disbelief when Mike Weir's President's Cup picks are revealed. So again, for the uninitiated, President's Cup-- well, first of all, is the US team against the international team, which is the event the Canadians can play in. But yeah, the Americans have some pretty good golfers, including the top two in the world. And it's got a lot of chef learns Andrew Shoffley. And then the guy Colin Morikawa, who just won the Tour Championship, if you just subtract Scotty Scheffler's head start that he was given. Anyways, so the top six are automatically qualified. And then captains pick the next six. So Hadeki Matsuyama, Sungjay M, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Vyong hung on, are all on the international team. Mike Weir is the captain. He chooses six players. If we just go the next six, we got Corey Connors, Cam Davis, Minhui Li, Christian Bahaizunut. Oh, that's a tough one. I did my best. Taylor Pendreth, Nick Taylor. Now, if you go beyond the next six, you got Adam Hadwin, Siwu Kim, Mackenzie Hughes is 15. So there is a lot to chew on here if you're Mike Weir. Now, this is the one event, this is the one international event that the Canadians can participate in. This one is in Canada. It's in Montreal. You have a captain that is Canadian. What do you think Mike Weir should do? What do you think he will do? I don't think he should put Hughes and Hadwin on there. I think it should probably end it at Taylor, right, with Connors, Taylor, and Pendreth. I don't think they've had great years, but what he will do, he probably will put them on. I think there's probably a lot of pressure from Gulf Canada. I'm sure there's a lot of pressure from just the fan. Everybody wanting to have those guys there. I don't know necessarily if they all deserve to be on there, but I would imagine that they will be, wouldn't you think? Do you think he'll put them on there? Here's what I don't think he will, because he'll feel like there's favoritism. It's like when your dad is your little league coach, right, that you're not given-- But what's this precedent for this? Like, I don't know in the past. I don't know. That's the thing. I know that there's never been a Canadian captain before, I don't think. No, so that's, you know, there hasn't been. So do you-- it's a tough one. I really don't know. But like, how doin' in hues didn't have, like, awesome years? No. So-- But here's the deal, okay? When's the next time we're gonna have a Canadian captain? Maybe ever? Like, is it ever gonna happen again? When are we ever going to have the circumstances-- When Connors retires, basically, I don't know. Corey Connors is gonna be president's captain. I mean, would you want to set that about? We're during his career, too. Yeah, he was a top 10 player and a major champion, which he's talking about. I mean, Corey Connors is an excellent golfer, too. Yeah, and he's-- Win a major. Yeah, for the top 10 player. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay. No, I'm not putting him in the same conversation. I'm just saying that by the end of his career, he may be within the same conversation. Maybe, maybe, in the-- Nick Taylor is closer than Mike Taylor is right now. We have incredible-- Wait, Nick Taylor's closer to a weir than Connors. Oh, yeah, yeah. But he's miles away. Yeah, for sure. Miles away. People, there's not even close. Don't sleep on Mike Weir's career. I will not. Outside of even the master's champion. He won 10 or 11 tournaments. He was an excellent player. He was a top 10 player in the prime of Tiger Woods, okay? Look at me tell me not to sleep on Mike Weir's career. I don't know. I feel like you're saying that. You're saying that. Like, obviously, we're gonna have another Canadian that lives up to the bar that Mike Weir said. What are the circumstances, what is the likelihood of these circumstances arriving again? Again, Canadian captain of the President's Cup team in Canada, and for this many Canadians to be like a reasonable possibility to be on the team. You're right. Max it out, all of them, baby. Let's get them all out there. Yeah, you're right. What? We were gonna offend-- who? Siu Kim, sorry. No, Minu. Christian Baha'isen, dude. Minu Lee, like I'm sorry. Sorry. You nailed it. Sorry. Sorry, sorry, sorry. You're doing the Canadian, you're apologizing. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But yeah, we're gonna do the most un-Canadian thing which is to hype our own people up on our home course and the one international event, the one showcase event we have in what is like a pretty golden era of Canadian golf. Sorry, but we're gonna load it up with Canadians. Yeah, you're right. You're right. What all you're saying is right. I just, I'm not sure that-- Oh, you're such a Canadian. You're like, I don't think it's not right. No, I just, I don't deserve to be there. You're not feeling potentially the best team. I don't care. Are you trying to win or are you trying to appease everybody? I think what you can sell people on, if you're Mike Weir, is like, I don't care, these guys had up and down years. They're gonna feed off the crowd. 100% and they're gonna be fired up. And they're gonna get everybody excited. And then 100% We got the home course advantage. 100% because, you know, that's how golf works is that you just get, you get geeked up. Yeah, it's got each other to be like, what? Bernie! (laughing) I mean, the reality is you're getting rinsed by the Americans either way. You're done. You're done. Yeah, so-- (laughing) One of the greatest things is for the President's Cup. It's the last one when Patrick Reed, I think maybe 2018 was the last one, maybe not. That's not the last one, but the one in Australia where he's like, "Ah, you're gonna shovel in that bag?" And he's like, "Get in the bunker!" Like, I love that. I hope the Canadian fans are like that. Yes. Anyways. That would be good. Anyways, our long wait is over. Thursday night, NFL season gets underway. And what a first game of the year as the defending MVP, going into Arrowhead to play the defending Super Bowl champion chiefs on Thursday night football. Let's talk to Judy Batista of NFL.com. How's it going, Judy? Thanks for doing this. Good morning, guys. How are you? Doing very well. There's still a lot of contractual issues still to be decided for a number of different teams but before week one. I want to start with the Jets because they play Monday night against the San Francisco 49ers. Of course, all eyes are gonna be on Aaron Rodgers and whether he can play more than five snaps, that'd be cool. But yeah, we have the anonymous quote from the agent, from the athletic, talking about the dysfunction in the room there. And we also have the Hassan Redick thing where they trade for this rusher who is not signing an extension, the Jets are not offering him. And potentially will not play. Do you expect him to play it on Monday? How does this resolve itself? Good question. This is, you know, there's been lots of strange hold outs and hold ins this year. There's been a lot. This is maybe the strangest because everything seemed great and happy when they made the trade and, you know, he went to the introductory press conference and then he hasn't been seen since. And, you know, depending on it. He said, he said, depending on which side you believe, either he agreed that he would come into the Jets without having a contract extension already done or did he change his mind or did the signals get crossed somewhere? Did the Jets not understand? The bottom line is he's not here, you know, you're now running out of time to get him ready for week one, certainly, although Robert Follissett, you know, he's obviously a professional and a veteran. He knows how to keep his body ready. At this point, I have to think that it's doubtful that he'll be on the field on Monday night. But, you know, we've seen crazier things happen. I mean, Trent Williams is apparently on his way to the Bay Area, according to his brother's Instagram account, you know, to end his holdout. So, you know, there's still a few days here, but it sure seems unlikely at this point. And again, this is, I don't know how this log jam breaks up because the Jets have been firm and saying they will not negotiate with somebody who's holding out. He clearly does not want to report without an extension. So, I'm not quite sure what breaks up the log jam at this point. - So, you know, we know what the conversation about the Jets has been outside of New York. It's been, you know, feels like it's been a bit of a circus with these two things that you just mentioned here. But like, what's the perception of them in the city amongst the fans, amongst the writers? Like, is there some excitement? Are Jets fans allowing themselves to go there after last year, after what happened? It feels like there's a ton of talent on this team and they actually have a potential to be really good. But are Jets fans letting themselves go there? - I think they are. Certainly, it's a different vibe than last year at this time where there was, you know, so much hype and hard knocks had been there. And so, everything was big. This year was much quieter. When I was at training camp, you know, much quieter, much more business like they ran a pretty tough camp. Aaron Rodgers said it was one of the toughest he's ever been in. So, it was much more business like this year. And I think, I mean, Jets fans understandably were just crestfallen last year. Their hopes were so high. And then it was just, it was devastating. It was terrible. So, I think they are a little bit more guarded. But this is a very good roster. You know, sitting aside, this is a theoretical situation. This is a better roster than they had last year at this time. The offensive line should be better. They certainly have a deeper group of wide receivers. Breathe Hall is healthy right out of the gate last year. At this time, he was still coming back off the injury. You know, and the defense is a top by defense. And so, I mean, Jets fans should be optimistic. They should be hopeful. Obviously, everything hinges on Aaron Rodgers being on the field for, you know, most, if not every snap. So, they should feel optimistic. This is a very, very good team. And certainly if they get the first harmonic situation straightened out, you know, in any kind of time that only strengthens the team, they should feel good. This is a playoff caliber team. There's no question about it. What about Hassan Retik's old team? Because, you know, when the Eagles were 10-1 last year, who didn't view them as a Super Bowl contender, and then they just, like, just absolutely cratered after that and got blasted in their postseason game in Tampa against the Buccaneers. I mean, what is to make of them? Because at times, again, they've looked like a Super Bowl contender. They've been in a Super Bowl and now know Jason Kelsey. Like, what do you make of what the Eagles are at this point? That's a very good question. 'Cause we have still not gotten a real answer for what happened last year in the second half of the season. I'm not sure even the Eagles are exactly sure what happened last year. This Friday night game from Brazil, Packers vs. Eagles is really like an interesting game because it's two teams that in the second half of the season completely switched, right? Like, the Packers sort of started slow and they were scuffling a little bit and then Jordan Lubb just took off. And in the second half and now you're looking at a team that is called clearly on the rise. Very young team, franchise quarterback. He got paid this year. They're on the ascent and he just had to look at the Eagles. And I mean, the big question to me going into the season is are you over? Whatever happened at the end of last season, are you over it? Is it done? And are you going to be a normal team again? Again, this is a really talented roster. I mean, they nearly won a Super Bowl, you know, less than two years ago. So the talent is there. They added take one Barkley, which I think will really help take some of the pressure off Jalen Hurts. But yeah, I mean, the first thing you got to look for on Friday night in these early weeks is, did you snap out of that? Like did Nick Sirianni figure out what happened and does he, can he adjust? You know, he's on a bit of a hot seat, I think. You know, they've got to write themselves. They did a lot in the off season. Again, Howie Roseman improved this roster. It's a very good roster. This should be a playoff team. And if they crater again, at any point, the way they did last year, that certainly would not bode well for Nick Sirianni and the coaching staff. Yeah, that's kind of where I wanted to go with them and the follow up with Nick Sirianni, especially with the names that are out there, right? Like Bill Belichick's on TV now, but you know, that's a big market with a ton of tradition, one that could be one for him. You know, you look at the Titans former coach that's leaving my mind right now, please, both of you guys going. Right, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you, thank you. Mike Raybels, you think he's helping out with the Cleveland Browns? But if, you know, the Eagles job were to come open and there's already been the reports in the off season, you know, that big ESPN piece, both Sirianni and Jalen Hertz. It just feels like a bit of a combustible situation if they get off to a slow start. So yeah, Sirianni needs a good start because the names are going to start popping up. Yeah, I agree with you, D. I think they just need a good start. Look, that's a, that is a very, very passionate fan base. Yeah. That was distraught last year, understandably so. She said like they come off a near-super bowl when they start 10 and one, they look like world beaters. I thought they were. And then they just collapsed and, you know, if the fan base was beside itself, as you would imagine, they would be. Yeah, if things don't start well, the heat is going to really turn up with the Eagles. But again, that would be a surprise. It's a very, very good team, a really good roster. So I'd be surprised if they come out and look as flat and incapable of correcting their own mistakes as they were in the second half last year. - Before we let you go, we do have a Friday game as well, week one from Sao Paulo. Now, some horror stories coming out of Brazil. Like some of the players have apparently been told like, "Don't show people you have a phone if you go outside." Of course, Twitter also banned in Brazil recently. And there's a big fine if you use a VPN to use it. So like nobody would be tweeting from the press box in Brazil. There's been some talk of like maybe, you know, the NFL would be of the right mind to cancel the game. Do you see this game going off as planned on Friday? - Oh, absolutely. First of all, not tweeting from the press box might not be the worst development in the world. Like we maybe don't need 25 people tweeting about the point flip. So that might not, we might not miss that too much. Yeah, it's absolutely going to go forward. And I don't know how much of this is overblown. I think, you know, anytime that teams go to foreign countries, they are told like, you know, be careful. But it's certainly going to go forward. It is an enormous population that is crazy for sports. Like we saw that during the Rio Olympics, like Brazil loves sports. And so this is a natural market for the NFL to go to. And also it's the first one. And I would expect that, you know, when they play future games in Brazil, maybe we won't be hearing so many, you know, stories about like what they've been warned. Everybody will be a lot more comfortable. Judy, appreciate the time. Thanks for this. My pleasure. Good to talk to you guys. There's Judy Batista, NFL.com. Yeah, it seems not great. I've never been to Brazil. I know people that have been to Brazil. And yeah, you do certainly have to take precautions. The beaches are sick. Ah, yeah. Also seen images of the beaches. They appear very sick. Very, very nice. Yeah, Twitter is a cesspool. So I mean, you know, June is great. Judy's kind of on to something there. Like less Twitter and the better see some schlubby beach. I'm gonna be like, ah, the food in this press box. Where's the bomb? Yeah, I, yeah, well, and Judy's right. There's always like issues with all these these games played outside of the United States. Although this, I don't know if I've heard quite this kind of few and cry. The Bill Belichick of it all, I think is interesting because I feel like the end of. Ray Bull is probably a better kinder than who I couldn't come up with his name. Very embarrassing. Sorry to everybody there, but it was a panic mode. Well, because of the age difference, right? Between the two, um, clearly there's, there's a separation there and some of the stuff that you hear about Belichick that, you know, people love playing for him when you're winning, but maybe, you know, it's kind of a breath of fresh air to get away from him. Uh, as Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski could probably attest, probably not there with Mike Vrebel. Vrebel's a different deal. I do feel like the NFL kind of made its decision on Belichick this past off season where there were more than a few available landing spots for him and what he interviewed one place, the Falcons, who decided thanks, but no, thanks. I mean, I would like to think that every time, you know, some team with expectation loses another game, specifically Dallas, Mike McCarthy, like they lose another game. They're at 500 that we keep hearing. And Jamie Jones is like, I like that he's on his last year. He's got a little fire on him. It's like, oh, that is good. And maybe that's the one landing spot that's the saving grace for Bill Belichick. I would love to see him some other place, but I, I just feel like the entirety of the NFL made up its mind on Bill Belichick that his time has, has passed him by now. I think maybe in the off season, that's true, but like as a regular season firing of a coach of like a good team, for example, the Eagles and the natural or the Cowboys are a very, like a kick in the butt that does not making Ross musicians like a part of move to like light a fire. Like what every team gave Ken Hitchcock a chance for like four years there. Yeah, but part of the Bill Belichick appeal is that he's a culture changer. You can't change a culture in the middle of the season. Yeah. I think, I think that having him out there is a nightmare for coaches of teams that, you know, like Mike McCarthy, it's a nightmare having him out there. And Rabel, like both those guys are like the two guys you wouldn't want to have. But I don't think the Eagles are going to really like they have a pretty easy schedule to start, right? Like they start with the Packers and then it's, they have the Falcons, they have the Saints, they have the Buccaneers, they have the Browns, they have the Giants, like they're not going to be one and four or two and like two and three to like get the, the, the hot seats sort of started. So maybe it's a moot point, but to me, Bill Belichick there or Rabel there would make a ton of sense. But yeah, if, if I'm a Cowboys fan, I'm despondent that I'm doing this again with Mike McCarthy. Well, I mean, everybody thinks it's like, Oh, it's the hot, it's a, it's a, he doesn't fire coaches. Like how long was Garrett, the coach there? He's awful. Nine years. Awful coach. And then he was even worse on TV somehow. Yeah. No, that's, I mean, Jerry Jones, he's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. It's certainly the contract negotiations that he's had with Ezekiel Elliott and recently with CD Lam. But he just loses. Yeah, I know he just acquiesces and gives the player everything. He overpays every time. Simply wanted. Why would they ever sign it? Because like key, this old bag of bones is going to pay me 100%. Um, yeah, he's, he is draft record and boy, compared it against some of the other teams in NFL, not too bad. Um, and yeah, he just does not have a quick trigger finger. No, not quick enough. Probably when it comes to the head coaching thing. Cause man, how can you waste another year if it, if it is? Great. That should be the coach of the Cowboys. And we'll see, I mean, Jim Harbaugh is going to be a great, like case study here with the chargers, how much impact. And I know it's not the same roster, but how much impact a head coach can have on the overall culture and the ultimate destination of a team. He just doesn't coach bad football tips. Like he immediately changes everything. First three years with the Niners was NFC Championship game. Yeah. Super Bowl NFC Championship game. Yep. And then he went 500. He's like, this is awful. I got it. So, yeah. I mean, if you're a Cowboys fan, I don't, I don't know how you possibly stomach what is obviously a very talented roster. And maybe Dak is, he's not Patrick Mahomes, but a few people are. No, he's cut down on the interceptions. Little bit. That is so leafy. It's unbelievable. Yeah. He is such a great regular season player. Like he is really, really good. And he has awesome years. And he throws her 4,000 yards. And he throws her tons of touchdown. Like he's an excellent regular. And then the playoffs starts. And yeah, you know what he could use is like some help from a head coach. And yeah, Mike McCarthy's been there. Yeah. I think Aaron Rodgers raised him to the heights that he will never again reach. And boy, go back and read Ty Dunn's incredible. Oh my God. Take down of the Aaron Rodgers, Mike McCarthy era in Green Bay. I love Ty Dunn and the Josh Allen one with the Mahomes flirtation with the with the with the ownership. Like he's just he's good as it gets when it comes to football pieces. Anyways, can't wait for the NFL season to get underway on Thursday. So here, that's Tom-- Hopefully you can't stand these out on the line. You hear this slander. Because we were kidding them right now. But yeah, top six qualify. No Canadians automatically qualified, but there's lots. I mean, Corey Connor is obviously going to be there, right? Pandrith Lock. Yeah, he's on the outside looking in currently as Corey Connor's. He's number seven in the rankings for the international team. Taylor Pandrith, who was the only Canadian in the tour championship-- Yeah, I don't understand how the rankings work. I guess it's just he didn't do enough. Like, that was-- Yeah, you know, Pandrith won this year. And he was in the top 20 guy in the championship. I did not hear to explain how the rankings work, OK? I think Pandr should be ranked ahead of Connor's with his year. OK, it's not subjective rankings, OK? I know, I know, I know. Big computer. And a great, great. Let's figure this out. Corey Connor's seven. Taylor Pandrith, 11. Nick Taylor, 12. Adam Hadwin, 13. Mackenzie Hughes, 15. All right, let's talk to our man. Adam Stanley, Sports Night Golf Reporter. What's going on, Adam? Hey, guys, I'm doing great. We are in chin ever closer to the President's Cup. I was at Laurel Montreal last week. Things are looking good. The build out is coming on nice. It's going to be awesome. It's going to be really fun week. Yeah, you did it like a one on one. Sit down with Mike Weir. You spent the day with Mike Weir. How's he handling this? It's a big-- there's a pressure day for him. This is a big day. I think this is-- like, the captain responsibilities is there's a large spectrum of things that you have to do. Some things that obviously Mike Weir wasn't entirely 100% ready to be signed up for. You know, meal planning, scheduling. No plan, meal plan, who can't delegate that to somebody else? Well, he's got to-- he gets the final sign off, you know? He's got jealousy. He gets like, what's he doing? No, don't. I'm so mean. [LAUGHTER] [INTERPOSING VOICES] Yes. [LAUGHTER] In any case, this is the-- my point is that he had to do all this other stuff. But this is like the big thing, you know? The captain's pick. This is-- this is-- this is the big responsibility. So, yeah, so he shows up to this day that we had-- we ended up doing three things. Kind of the classic sit down interview. That was a lot of fun. And then we did-- we played alternate shot together on the 14th hole at Rowan Montreal. And we walked through the 17th hole when he made the go-ahead birdie against Tiger in the match in 2007. And the pin was cut in the same spot that it was in 2007. So those videos are all going to come out on Sportsnet in the next couple of weeks. But, you know, he comes in hot early in the morning. Not hot, like angry, but hot, like-- didn't have very much sleep. And we're like, Mike, you good? And he's like, guys, I just-- I got to-- I got to make these effing picks. And I'm like, yeah, you do. That's kind of your big thing. So anyway, the picks have been made. The guys are all at the-- at Rowan Montreal. They're having like a little international team play together and bonding things. So it's done. It's dusted. And we'll find out today what's going on. But, yeah, big deal for Mike, for sure, this particular day and this decision. OK, we'll get that in just a second. How did you do in the alternate job? Yeah, that's the important. Because, like, obviously-- you are the guy that birdied 12 in the media round at Augusta National. I was completely throwing up all over myself. And I think the-- part of it is like, OK, there's like two guys that really inspired me to want to play golf and make golf, like, something important in my life. And, you know, Tiger Woods, obviously, is the first one. But, Mike Weir, the guy who's going to be hitting the drive on the shots just prior to me, is the other guy, right? Like, there's no-- there's no ifs ands or buts about it. Like, just like the guys who are on the PGA tour, like, Mike Weir inspired me to want to pick up, you know, really, play golf and make it a thing. So I was pretty nervous. And Mike was the day prior on the Sunday. He shot, like, 800 par on the Champions Tour and finished type of third. And he was, like, fully dialed. So I said, yeah, Mike, you're obviously-- Mike, you're hitting the drive here, obviously. Like, I'm too nervous. I can barely key up the ball. So Mike hits, you know, he hits hybrid, like, to the center of the fairway on this hole. And then, the unique thing for me is that, like, I don't really-- I don't really keep score. I don't really, like, take all that much information when I'm out there. I'm just, like, banging around. But Mike is, like, numbers, like, captain numbers. Like, we get up to this ball. And Mike unleashes, probably, win a club in between. It's like, the front, he's like, maybe you go this way, you don't want to go to the bunker here, there's water in the left. Like, just a full dumping. Meanwhile, you're trying not to drop the crown. Yeah. [LAUGHTER] How's the win going to affect my five-yard shot? I'm out of the cart-- or, excuse me, I'm out of the car. I just drove some Ottawa and a bunch of y'all. Oh, my gosh. Like, I didn't hit any ball. Like, we already did a 20-minute, like, in-depth. Hey, what's the emotion that's going to be running through you when the fans, you know, cheer you on in that first day? We're trying to get, we're trying to get locked in, like, Mike Turico kind of stuff going on here. And I'm like, I just, we're driving off the ball, and I already know which club I'm going to hit. And then Mike just unleashes all these other details. And I just thought, I don't know what to do. I think I need to, I don't even know what sport we're playing right now. So, anyways, thankfully, the final thing that he said was, like, maybe you should club up. So, that was good. [LAUGHTER] I did lay this sod over it, and I left him with, like, a 12-yard chip. Anyways, I'll leave the rest of the shots to the video when they're out, but certainly the first shot was Mike Weir, you know, kind of standing right around me after he just gave me, you know, a plethora of information was a lot to handle, but it was fun. He was great. So not to spoil it, but he left you with, like, a six-pointer, probably, that you had to tremble over in front of Mike. [LAUGHTER] He left you at 11. He left you at 11. Oh, OK. OK, that's good. Good, good, good. Yeah, there's no expectation to make him that. Yeah, thank God. [LAUGHTER] I was like, like, you're saying all this stuff about Weir, and I think, himself, that he's changed a lot since his playing career on the PGA tour and, like, his perception in the media and the way he talked and all this stuff. Like, him doing this kind of stuff and him being the captain, I would say this is out of his old character big time, so I'm interested to see how he handles all this spotlight. Yeah, you're right. And I think, like, this is something that he's wanted to do for so long, and, like, this is a big honor for him. And I certainly do think, like, after, you know, in 2003, you know, Mike was ranked third in the world, fourth in the world, whatever it was, right? So, you know, Rory Mackerel is third in the world right now. So, for all you want to talk about the world rankings and the data and the live and this, that, and the next thing, like, you know, basically, Mike is doing the same kind of stuff that Rory Mackerel at number three in the world, you know, is, was doing, right? So, yeah, I wouldn't blame him for 2003, 2004, 2005, to, like, you know, hold back from, you know, the spotlight or just, like, you know, have to be, be Mike Weir, but just to a certain level. But then, you know, he gets through the personal stuff, he goes through a divorce, he comes out of that, you know, he's found, obviously, a new wife now in Michelle, and his kids are a lot older, and he's just kind of, like, embraced this part of his life where, you know, golf is golf, and he's still pretty darn good at it. Like, watching Mike Weir, like, still chip or hit irons or whatever it is, like, the guy still has it, right? And that was really cool. And I think now, like, he has firmly embraced, kind of, to your question specifically, he's so firmly embraced being this older statesman, being this leader, just being, you know, being the guy, Captain Canada, with respect to men's professional golf, that I think that's freedom up to kind of just be a little bit looser and kind of be himself, and just have fun while he's out there. And I do think, like, I never really knew, kind of, the old Mike, obviously, I was, overall, we were, right, 50 and 16, and that kind of time, so I was far, pretty far removed from it, but I only know this, Mike, and, yeah, it's been cool. It's been a lot of fun, as well to see. I've been in this industry a hundred years, so, like, I did cover Mike Weir a couple of Canadian Opens, and, yeah, he was... - God, you're old. - I'm, yeah, my 20-year anniversary at this... - Oh, my God, next summer, next summer. - That's next, next summer. - Yeah, long way to go, Mike. - Yeah, careful. - I'm not looking furiously on what, but, yeah. But, yeah, no, I certainly, he was a prickly fella to deal with when he came home and played at the Canadian Opener, where he so much wanted to win, and it was, yeah, just, that was the one thing missing from the trophy shell for him was a Canadian Opentile. It was great to see Nick Taylor finally break that streak. But, before I ask this next question, do you know who the captain's picks are? - I have a very good idea of who the captain's picks are. - So, you don't know for sure, though. Like, can we have, like, a speculative, like, opinion-based discussion about it? Or are you, like, embargoed from, like, telling us the actual answer? - We can speculate. I don't, I do not know 100%. I haven't read anything to this point that confirms such, such thoughts. But, yeah, let's go. Let's have the speculative conversation, for sure. - Okay, so, Corey Connors is going to be there. Taylor Penrith is going to be there. I think Nick Taylor's probably going to be there. And you know what? By the numbers, all three of those guys are inside the top 12. Does Mike Weir, do you think he should, or do you think he will go beyond that for Adam Hadwin at 13 and Mackenzie Hughes at 15? - So, this is probably, this is the biggest question, obviously, from Canadian media, and not even Canadian media. Like, the international media folks who have been on kind of pre-presence cup calls with Mike Weir have basically asked the same question. It's like, we have never had such an incredible generation of Canadian golfers all playing so good at the same time, and this is going to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for them to be able to play a president's cup, you know, on their home soil. So, it's no, like, Corey Connors at number seven in the standings, that's a lock. Like, Mike Weir, basically, when we were in Calgary at the Rogers Charity Classic, he pretty much said it as such. Like, you're not going to ignore number seven and number eight in the picks. He, those are his words. And at that point, it was Corey and Minwooly from Australia at number seven and number eight. So, wouldn't be very surprised at all to see them. Also, to your point about Taylor Penrith, only Canadian that made it to the Tour Championship, he was like 19th in strokes gained total this year. He was, I think, seven for something in strokes gained putting, like, and he was sixth in total driving. So, no matter what you're looking at, even if you're looking at the president's cup standings, I think Taylor Penrith has played himself onto the team. Now, the Nick Taylor question, I think, is the real big one. Didn't make a cut of the major this year. Hasn't had a top 15 finish. I don't think since his win. The only other top 10 finish he had all season, or thereabouts, was the event that he played alongside Adam Hadwin, the Zurich Classic in New Orleans, kind of in the middle of the summer. So, for all of the moments that Nick Taylor has provided this country, including, obviously, the Canadian Open Win, and then the immediate kind of victory in Phoenix earlier on this season, from Phoenix until now, it has very, unfortunately, kind of just been a downhill slide for him. So, from a, from a Mike Weir perspective, I think this was probably the one that was bothering him the most, because you got to think, well, you know, is Nick going to just, am I going to take a flyer on Nick because I know he can play well on a big stage? Or, but he's a rookie as well. He'd be a rookie on the teach. Or do I just fill it, do I backfill it with someone who my analytics guys are saying, you know, is going to kind of be the right guy numbers-wise. And that's why you may skip all the way down from the Kenzie Hughes, if only because if you look at the numbers, you know, again, Hughes is even higher than Taylor Pendreth in that stroke game putting down. Awesome, butter. He was like six or something on tour, and this season, or 10th maybe now, and he was number one overall in just short game period. So, that's a lot of numbers, but I think the specific kind of point is, who is going to be a gap filler on the analytic side? Mike is really, really leaning into that. And, you know, Mackenzie Hughes, for me, is kind of looking like the guy that could maybe be the eye opening pick, if only because his numbers and a short game are the thing that Mike put him over the edges compared to anybody else. And also, he probably wants to be on the scene more than anybody else. And Mike is really kind of leaning into, we want guys who want to be motivated and be on this squad. And he's the one that's almost pestering Mike the most that wanted to be on the game. Love that. So, I'm just looking back at Nick Taylor's year, and he did finish top 12 at the Arnold Palmer, outside of that, you were right. So, he hasn't really had a sparkling leader outside of the big win at the Phoenix Open. So, we went, so we went win, and then five, 12, Arnold Palmer, T7. Jenna, Jenna, no, he's so, Jenna's so invitational, T39, and then he went to the Arnold Palmer, he was T12, and then after that, he wasn't in the top 10 outside of the team one with that one. So, no, that wasn't going to happen. Oh, that's the one on the counter. I'm like, I don't need to watch this one. So, there you go. So, again, it's just, it's almost, get back to you in a second, but obviously, it's just kind of a pure numbers thing, right? Like, it's just one guy was going down, one guy was was up, and then it's like, what does this team need at this particular point? And, you know, Mike's got to kind of make a decision. But I think all the way back, Ben, to your point, I don't think he goes more than three. I think it's going to be two for sure. Like, we don't really need to speculate on that. I think it's two for sure. But is it going to be three, maybe? Which, who's the third going to be remains to be seen? I don't think they're going to go more than three, though. Yeah. Max, that was fun. The problem for Mike Weir is that America's coming. So, you look at that team. It's a bit of a concern. Like, I'm really hoping that, like, you know, the hometown fans get treated to at least a bit of a tournament here. But, you know, you look on paper and it's, you know, the President's Cup. You know, what happens with it a lot of years. And I'm just hoping that it's at least, you know, maybe we shock the world here. But I'm just hoping at least it's close. I guess shock the USA would be the way to put it. Yeah. Yeah. I think the, you know, you kind of zoom out and you're like, oh, shoot. All six of the top six on the American side made it to the tour championships. And it's like, oh, wow. Okay. Yep. They're all playing very, very good. And their bodies have worked. We're very, very good as well. I think there's two things that I think could push us towards internationals being a competitive and be just, like, fired right up to try to win this thing. Number one, they're sick of losing already. There's like this generational group now on the international side that also, you know, they want to win just as bad as Ernie Elton, Trevor Roman and Mike Weir and all those guys wanted to do. So that's number one. Number two, yes, Team USA, oh my gosh, unbelievable. Scotty, Xander, you could go on and on and on. But they've played a lot of golf at a very high level for a very long time. And Scotty Scheffler has said, you know, about his next thing. And so he's a gala, although he played extremely well last week. He's got a wrist thing going on. You know, Wyndham Clark was a non factor at the majors. You know, Xander has already said about the Ryder Cup. Hey, I don't want to have like less dinners. Like I don't want to do XYZ. Like, so the thing is maybe they're just going to be gassed, right? And maybe we can, we as, you know, the international collective. Maybe we should take advantage of that. And a little birdie also told me that Team USA is not going to be going to Royal Montreal for a pre president's cup. Get together, check out the golf course and get any of that stuff, right? So expect that's just ignorant. Expecting to win. Yeah. Expecting to win. And it's, you know, Royal Montreal, yeah, it's kind of like everything that funny you, but the green complexes are pretty tricky. And, you know, where's he's got the opportunity to, to set up the golf. Now, the PGA tour sets the pins and the T's, but, you know, Mike Weir is the one that tells the team at Royal Montreal how thick the rough should be. If you've got a pinch in, you know, some T's or fairways here, they're everywhere. So a scouting trip could probably not be the worst thing, but yeah, doesn't sound like the United States. Guys are going to be doing it. So there's a couple of reasons to believe. How about setting up like some monitors that are just showing the Scotty Scheffler shank on repeat, like all on every fairway? Like, that'd be, I'd be down with that. Yeah. It's like Mike, Mike also has control of the team bus television. And it's just like that shot. Wyndon Clark's lip out at the player's trip. He's over and over and over. Oh, yeah. There's like, yeah, just pick your pick your poison and just have to be repeated on the 45 minute bus. Right. Come on through all of it. You'll be tired. Can't wait. Can't wait for this thing at the end of the month. Can't wait to see how many Canadians get selected this afternoon. Adam, always a pleasure, buddy. Thanks, bud. Thanks, guys. Yeah, appreciate it. Talk to you soon. See you. Adam Stanley, sports night golf reporter. If it were me, I'd just take all the Canadians. Yeah. I mean, I know you would. Who's going to be upset? I mean, other than, you know, the people that weren't selected, that's the most part. You know who's gonna be upset, though, is like Nick Taylor, who just won our national open. You don't think that was a high pressure moment? Yes, it was high pressure. Okay. I mean, thanks to Tommy Fleetwood for peeing down the leg multiple times. We appreciate that. We always say thank you to Tommy. He got a great break. Yeah. Bang, gospel, hospitality, 10. The tour. It wouldn't have won the last hole because it was an eagle that. Oh, but I meant like, in regulation. Oh, in regulation. Just bird. Yeah. That's a weird hole that you couldn't drive her off of. No, but just hit it. In the middle. Hit it in the green. Yep. Too pipe. You're in. Yeah, but I mean, who's going to feel worse? The Christian Bahaizanute or Nick Taylor? Nick Taylor. Who's like inside the top 12? If you saw like Nick Taylor, nobody's going to be upset at that. Mm-hmm. He won the Canadian Open. He's at this moment, you ask like a casual golf fan from this country to name one current Canadian golfer? Is it not Nick Taylor? The first person that comes to mind? Yep. For sure. And he's not going to be there. The one opportunity he's going to get to play on home soil in an international event. Oh. Oh, no. Oh, are you downplaying it? Listen, I get right and I don't know kind of what Adam was talking about there. Kind of it feel like he may be not around. Yeah. But he's not going to be there. I think Adam speaks from a place of knowing exactly who to pick up. Oh, I gave him the opportunity to say, I can't say because I know for sure. But he said, I don't know for sure. Speculation sounds like pretty well founded information from, you know, Canada's foremost authority on the game of golf, who just, you know, played a whole with Mike Weir. Yeah. By the way, you seem like you're, you're, you could put your mind in a place of me. Ah, I don't read Tremblin. How would you do? Tremblin. Yeah, I'm literally, I don't know if I'd be able to draw the club back. Like, I don't. Well, no, I, I would speak as long as Mike Weir doesn't have to watch me hit a driver, I can look like a good golfer. So, oh, and you would feel comfortable. I wouldn't feel comfortable. But like if he gave me an eight iron in, I can hit an eight iron. Yeah. And I think I can maybe four of every 10 or five that every 10 are decent. Yeah. So like, I bet you I can get it on. I'm a golfer. I can get it on the green. Yeah. I just feel a little nervous. Yeah, you could. Yeah. My miss is not like my miss. Like when I'm nervous, like when I'm overthinking, it's like, oh, yeah, none of the small muscles work correctly. Like, yeah. Hey, quickly, before we go, uh-huh, and enough choice chestnut. Oh, okay. I have the most fatigue of joy chestnut. Like, why is joy chestnut? It gets just vile. It's gross. I don't care. I couldn't care less. I don't care. Please stop feeding me joy chestnut stuff. Oh, no. That's fine. I'm so sick of it. I'm so, so sick of it. I couldn't care less. I want to talk with it again. It's gross. Oh, yeah. What's all be happy about a guy that dips the hot dog in water and shoves it in his mouth? He's a creature. Enough. Yeah. And now. Listen, the one thing standing in his way and the potential reason he might not be the best competitive eater of all time was Kobayashi, he finally put him in the ground. Yeah. Gross. Yes. Yes. Can't two things be true? No. Gross is also. Gross. Very impressive. No. Oh, I can destroy my body, the best of the world. Yeah, those are. Enough. He's the best. Sorry. He's the best that ever ever did. Oh, my God. He's gross. Gross. Again, two things can be true. Yeah. All right, we'll be back tomorrow with another edition of the Fan Morning Show, Fan NSN. He's supposed to have found on the fan. Good morning. [MUSIC PLAYING] (dramatic music)
