Ben gives his thoughts on the new animated Batman series on Amazon Prime.

(upbeat music) - Welcome to Movies and Meal, a podcast where we talk about movies and other things while we eat. I'm our co-host Ben and in this TV talk episode, we're gonna be reviewing Batman, Cape Crusader, the new animated series that premiered on Amazon Prime earlier this summer. Now for as much guff as I give the DC live action movies of the last five, seven years or so, the animated efforts from DC have been pretty good. You know, of course you got Harley Quinn, a show that we all love, or at least, I know Keith and I are big fans of. And even something silly, I recently watched the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Batman crossover and I just found it fun. Batman, Cape Crusader, has a great lineage because it's developed by Bruce Tim who most people know as kind of the granddaddy of Batman animation and really like 90 superhero animation. You know, he was the creative talent behind Batman, the animated series with Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill when they're very iconic roles as Batman and Joker. And he's had his hand in a lot of development, including the creation of Harley Quinn. This series, while it has the same vibes, is not connected to that universe, but puts Batman in a very like 1940 style Gotham City. You're not gonna see a lot of gadgets, except for what you would see in the 1940s, which is radios and guns and some bad rings and grappling hooks and stuff. But none of the high tech stuff that you would see of Batman currently. This series, it's a little bit more slow paced. You're gonna have a villain of the week, much like the animated series, but it still builds to something and I just found it really enjoyable. I enjoy the grounded Batman good old fashioned detective, a young Batman who is still finding his way. Hamish Linklater is the title character of Batman slash Bruce Wayne. He's confident, but he's a little arrogant. He hasn't connected with Alfred yet. He's good, Dietrich Bader returns, playing Harvey Dent in this. And you have whole cast of characters, most people, not as much of a big names as you would think, but they all do a really good job. I don't really have a lot to say 'cause I don't wanna spoil much, but if you like Batman, if you like Batman, the animated series, you cannot go wrong with Batman, Caped Crusader. All right, I've said enough, so we'll wrap it up. You can always reach us at moviesandmail, OG@gmail.com, moviesandmail on Twitter slash X, and basically anywhere you can find a podcast. But for this episode of Moviesandmail, I'm Ben. (upbeat music) [MUSIC PLAYING]
