(upbeat music) - I kinda think a Shelley is like the Justice League. Everyone talks about, you know, Brinley Cannon, but they're kind of like the Justice League. They just have a nice set of characters that back them up. - When it comes to high school sports, East Idaho never gets its due. - I ran into Jeremy Hess, the AD of Grace Luther, and, you know, he was just excited, and then, you know, I'm just talking to him, and he goes, "We have seven girls." So, just amazing. - But the East Idaho PrepCast has changed that, covering the biggest sports stories from Salmon, all the way down to Bear Lake. - And again, you know, Grace is always that team just kind of lurking, like, yeah, there's Grace. They, you know, they don't have social media, but, you know what, they have footballs, they got grass, they got pads, and they use all those very well. - It's the East Idaho PrepCast with Sean Kane on IdahoSports.com. (upbeat music) - That's right. Welcome to another edition of the East Idaho PrepCast on IdahoSports.com, breaking down top stories from Districts 5 and 6 of Idaho High School Athletics. And you can watch this show on autosports.com's Facebook page, YouTube account, or X account, and you can listen to the show on autosports.com, or wherever you get your podcasts. And don't forget to like and subscribe to this show, so you can join in on the conversation. Let us know what we're getting right. Shout out to a favorite student, a favorite athlete, a favorite student athlete, or favorite team. Let's get the show on the road. Let's bring in our East Idaho expert now, and insider Sean Kane. Sean, good evening. - Oh man, Jolie, you look well-rested after your vacation. I'm glad to have you back. - Dude, it was a nice, nice vacation. And the weather was great. I know you're on the East Idaho PrepCast, but we always talk weather, but I gotta say, the weather's been fantastic, Sean. - Yeah, I mean, it was really good until today. It was really smoky here in Pocatello, and a lot of games got moved or canceled last weekend in the Boise area, so luckily we avoided that here, and hopefully we'll continue to avoid that going into the weekend, 'cause there's a lot of cross country. There's a swimming meet going on right now in Pocatello, outside, which I think is kind of cool. We might get live results coming in. It may be, I'll let you know, but yeah, a lot going on with the kind of the smoky haze going on. - Yeah, and like you said, good thing. We're not getting affected by it, but thoughts and prayers to everyone who is affected by it up there in kind of North Central Idaho. Hopefully everyone will stay in safe and shout out to all the men and women trying to fight those fires and trying to keep as much forest protected as possible. Some guys, I think it was during the Rocky Mount Rumble, Paul and company, they were on there saying, "Hey, we're never gonna see that those lakes, those forests, "they might not be the same again in our lifetime," which is unfortunate, but really for everyone trying to protect it. - Yeah, they're saying it's probably not gonna go out. They'd have to wait for winter. I know that was kind of the talk and up there in the area that, probably not gonna be able to really subdue it until the weather gets colder when we get some, maybe some rain. But yeah, hopefully no one gets hurt. Everyone stays safe. And you know, moving a football game for safety, I mean, is easy and luckily all the other schools are, you know, gracious enough to host and things like that. That's kind of a unique thing in Idaho. You don't see that so often. A lot of people would not allow other teams to come use their facilities. But in Idaho, at the end of the day, I think most people are willing to do what it takes to allow the kids to get a play. And I think that's the most important. - Yeah, amen. Well, let's get into some of our great performances from this week, Sean. Of course, we do Player of the Week, Team of the Week. We recap the biggest games from the past week. And then we go into games coming up and what Sean and I will choose a couple of teams, a couple of games that we're interested in, make our picks and the one we'll prepare for other big games coming up. Sean, Player of Performance of the Week is gonna come from the Rocky Mountain Rumble. Rigby's, a Monty Morel had a great game. How do you do? - If, you know, you know, kind of a slow start, you know, 40Ds, 100 yards. You know, a lot of people had fantasy drafts probably over this weekend or the past week. You'd love to have a Monty Morel on your fantasy team with those kind of numbers, you know, 40Ds, 100 yards against an out-of-state opponent. He was good last year. He's been good. You know, it's hard to pick. There are so many different people, but I just think out of the Rumble, that was kind of a stat of an East Idaho team that took out and took out to me. And I thought, you know, was a well performance for him and kind of give him a shout out and, you know, that Rigby team. - Yeah. And we'll go into that Rigby team a little later when we discuss their win against Wasatch. But just what everyone's whistled a little bit, like you said, Sean Morel, 100 yards, 40Ds, including he had a 58 yard touchdown run, 50 yard scamper, if you will. And we need, go ahead. - Oh, no, he just, he seems to find a way to break one out almost every game I've watched or broadcast. He finds a way to break one of those big ones. And it just makes that trio back there, Carmen Garcia and who's the other one, you know him? Crockett. - Oh, yeah. - Yeah, Crockett. - Crockett from Skyline. - And they kind of run, run a, I would almost call it an RPO run pass option. It kind of looks like that. Just so dangerous when they played at Skyline. And now he's at Rigby and Rigby has kind of a more of a traditional dropback quarterback. But now you've got this running presence. And so he's just so dangerous to break it out when you've got different options on the field. - Yeah, and Rigby is dangerous when you, when you can score 48 points on a good loss at your team out of Utah. Rigby ended up winning that game 48, 27. So congratulations to Monty Morel, our East Idaho player of the week, four touchdowns, 100 plus yards rushing. Sean, let's move into our team of the week. We're gonna go a little boys girl soccer. We have a duo team of the week, if you will. The Sugar Salem boys and girls soccer team. Sean, these kids are, I guess teenagers, are three and all. And Sean, I was gonna get the scores and the win or loss for, I think it was today and yesterday from both those teams. But at the time when we decided we were gonna choose the Sugar Salem boys and girls, the boys are three and all, the girls are four and all. The boys are 34 and all three games and the girls are 36 and three in four games. - Yeah, just unreal. I think the reason we're gonna go both teams is because they have one coach. They have Scott Terry, one coach. He's, you know, he did it last year. Both teams winning, coaching two championship games of one day. I don't think that happens too often. And he's also a pretty good tennis coach in the spring and a lot of those soccer players come out, you know, for tennis and, you know, Scott just has run a fantastic program. I got a chance to get a little words from him and he just said the biggest thing for the boys team is they're all willing to accept their roles and willing to sacrifice for the team. And they've just, you know, played really hard the last three years and, you know, won a state title. So they're just really excited to go for that four-peat, you know, the elusive four-peat, which would just be great. And you have Ben Owens, Gordon Peterson, just some great players. And so yeah, the boys team has just been doing great things. He mentioned seniors, Hudson Chambers, Jordan Luewell, making big impact on the midfield. The back line is all juniors. So their defense is all juniors. Sorry, rest of Idaho. - You'll see him again next year when he eats you again. - And something Scott talks about is even though they're playing so well and having these great scoring performances and not really losing, they still kind of play with, they got a chip on their shoulder and it's really made him a great group. So the boys just doing great. - And we have an update. I was able to look back and find that Sugar Sale did indeed win last time. The Sugar Sale girls, they beat Madison four to one. That might be the closest score they've had so far on the season, bringing Skyline to, I believe it's four and oh, if I'm not mistaken. Yeah, four and oh, for Skyline. Although this is showing three and one. But anyway, so girls win another game that moves into the 40 and four and five games. Just incredible work from that girls soccer team. - Yeah, you just, the girls team too, he talked about the girls are returning a lot of players and they have seven new freshmen. So that's just huge, just a very strong freshmen class. I mean, then that's culture. Like, you do well, it builds that culture and just some great players. Addie Peterson, I believe she also plays basketball really well too, is really good. They returned to the frontline from state last year. Just a great game. They face some quality teams in their first four games in the season and they've just been really tight knit group and have a willingness to go above and beyond to help the team be successful was this quote and they just have a great opportunity to defend their title too. So having two teams back in the saddle to defend the title is just a phenomenal task and job by Scott Derry. - Yeah, so the Sugar Sound boys and girls soccer teams are our East Idaho prep cast teams of the week. Congrats to those two groups, those two clubs and good luck the rest of the way. Maybe, Sean, we should say good luck to the rest of the foray if they can catch those Sugar Salem teams and Sean. Oh, glad Sean. - Oh, and I think the boys have added century boys onto the schedule 'cause century lost some games. So I'll confirm that, but that'll be a phenomenal match. - Very interesting, yeah. - Century boys versus Sugar Salem. I'll double check that, but yeah, that could be a big one coming up soon. - Sean, our East Idaho experts are getting all the information. All right, Sean, that's Head Coach Scott, Terry's crew. Let's move on and recap the biggest games from last week. Let's start with football. Sean, let's go right into our picks, man. Yeah. - Are you sure? - Are you sure? - You know what? I love a good slice of humble pie, especially when there's some maybe some good crust on it, nice flaky crust. So I'm gonna just dive right into that humble pie. And I went two and two, Sean. You are, I went O and two, which brings me my total to two and two. You went, again, two and O, that brings you to four and O on this season. Sean, you got me. Aberdeen, American Falls fell to Aberdeen, 20 to 18. And then Westside fell to, or excuse me, Firth fell to Westside 33 to 19. - Yeah, and I mean, 20 to 18. I don't think it's been that close in this rivalry game. - It was so close. - In a long time. But I mean, we can replay the tape, but I said Ortiz was gonna be the difference and he was. - Yeah. - A 15 yard touchdown pass with 50 seconds to go was the game difference by Beyor Ortiz and that in my gut, that was my feeling would be the difference 'cause, but you have to give credit to American Falls. I mean, they've been- - 100%. - Haven't been as competitive for the last few years, but to be that close against their big rival, like I said, you can throw a stone from American Falls and hit Aberdeen, but unfortunately, the stone didn't quite make it there this time. - No, and American Falls, let's continue to shout them out before we praise Aberdeen some more. Zach Griggs, Sean had 100 plus yards rushing, two touchdowns. And then American Falls, Kaelin Hernandez, 78 yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter. Aberdeen needed that, like you said, that 50 seconds remaining heroic, 15 yard touchdown pass from Lipp, Lupay Ortiz to seal the deal. So American Falls was that close. - Yeah, just the phenomenal game. And it normally is. And again, I've done this game at Aberdeen and this time it was in American Falls, but it's just a great atmosphere. So the fans were in for a treat and they got it. And, you know, whatever the price was to get in, it was totally worth it down there in the valley. - Yeah, and then let's go into, so congrats to Aberdeen, Sean, you're the winner, I'm the loser, you're awesome, I'm not. And yeah, congrats to Aberdeen for getting that two point win. Hey, while we're, let's take a second and let's shout out our friend Sam Buffington, who's having a nice wave, saying hello, hey, Sam, from, I believe, North Idaho doing his work out there. Appreciate all of Sam's help with prep sports. Shout out, Sam Buffington. Sean, let's go into our other game, which I also picked incorrectly. This one was not as close. West Side defeating for 33-19. You chose West Side, I chose for, you're right, I'm wrong, you're cool, I'm not. Hey, I'll tell you, every time you start a sentence with, it wasn't that as close as you thought it was gonna be against West Side. - I know. - And you got paid and nickel, you'd be rich. 'Cause that's what they've done for, I don't know how many years. It's pretty much a team built to win and Cruz Sage was a big difference, right? 194 yards, offensively, 159 rushing, three TDs. But it was interesting, West Side was down zero to three and came back and that just shows the competitive of this first team where these two teams are always potentially gonna meet in the playoffs. Like it always, you always kinda see it brewing. So, I mean, 33-19 doesn't seem that close, but a couple things go a different way. But you just got this West Side Pirates team that just makes everyone walk the plank every year. - I love it. And look, Fort Worth scored 19 points on a very stingy West Side demons. Like you say, it's consistently churning out great defensive teams. And you also mentioned they were down 13-0. Let me find that stat. Yeah, West Side rallied from an early 13-0 deficit. It was early in the, I believe it was late first, early in the second quarter. But yeah, West Side does what West Side does and they made first, like you say, walk the plank. So that puts West Side 1-0 on the season, Firth 1-0-1. I really liked Firth in that game just because they had a game under the belt. They had a lot of seniors. I was, and I just thought with that, maybe they could kind of get over the hump, that West Side hump. But they couldn't, West Side continues to be dominant. And Sean picks it correctly. So Sean is 4-0 on this season. I am 2-2, but I will get it back, everybody. Don't you worry. - Yep, that's what Ryan Skag said. But anyways. (laughs) - Oh, I wish Ryan Skag was on here. - No comment later. - Yeah, all right. And we got a comment here from Tim Bellenap. Uncle Tim saying both tough teams expect to see them both in the playoffs. So I believe what you said, Sean. - Yeah, that, I mean, you do. And they always, it seems like they always play each other early in the season. And, you know, it depends how it goes. A couple of years ago, it was like a one-point win by West Side. And they become instant classics. And this one, you know, the score at the end isn't there. But obviously, you know, West Side being down and coming back, it was still a really good, really good game of football. So you're definitely gonna see these teams later in the postseason. It's not that bowl of a prediction. - Yeah, yeah. And I, I like that. And look, the Vazquez family, Dorelle and his, and I believe that's his, well, it's something-- - Cousin. - Cousin, something like that. Yeah, they will, they will be ready for that. So shout out to Tim, thanks for that, that comment. Keep the comments coming, folks. Let us know what we're getting right. Especially Sean, let Sean know what he's getting right. And you can make fun of me for all of my terrible picks. Let's keep it going, Sean. Pokey played Skyview on, I believe that was Friday. No, Thursday, last Thursday, Pokey played Skyview the day after last week's podcast. And Sean, they had to race a nine-point deficit in the final six minutes to get the victory. - Yeah, and so going into the start of the season, Coach David Spillitt didn't really confirm who was gonna be the quarterback. I think it was, they were a lot. It was either gonna be Hunter May or Taven Williams. In this game, it looks like Hunter May was direct and traffic, but also the funny thing is, who does he throw to? Taven Williams, Taven Williams, right? It would be the same, it would be the same reversal of Williams as the quarterback. He's probably thrown to Hunter May. So it's what a great tandem of players have that you can use either way, but yeah, that's a good game. You know, it was kind of interesting. It was kind of interesting to see what Skyview would have after losing to Minneko. And then, you know, Pokey lost just an enormous amount of seniors. So, you know, what were they gonna have to the table? But when you have good quarterback and potentially two good quarterbacks, it's really the sky's the limit. - Yeah, and they needed that 50 yard bomb to Taven Williams to take the lead. That was with 307 left. So, gutsy play from them to go long from quarterback to quarterback, if you will. And then they needed to touch them before that. That was the seven year touchdown to Cody Collins with 541 left. So again, Pokey has to come from behind to beat Skyview. They beat him by six. But yeah, I wasn't sure what Skyview was gonna come out with after they lost that game to Minneko, but Minneko's good. And then, on defense, Pokey sealed the deal when Arden Martinez had that game-clinching interception with 42 seconds left. And if you go on Instagram on Pokeitello's Pokey Football's Instagram page, you can see that interception really, really nice stretch as he's going out of bounds to seal the deal. - Yeah, defense is what's gonna win you games later on in the season. So, a good way to start off for the Thunder. - Yeah, and Hunter May, 320 yards total, 195 passing, three touchdowns, 125 rushing, one rushing touchdown, just 100 May, he does it all. And honestly, Sean, how Hunter May goes, if they can protect him, I think that's how Pokey goes. If he can produce, if they can protect him both in passing and rushing, block for him, I think Pokey will be okay. I just, I don't know honestly how many weapons they will have as the season progresses, if Hunter May gets hurt, not sure what else they can do there. - Yeah, it'll be interesting to see, like they lost a lot of people on the line, right? And both defensively and offensively on the line and how that kind of younger unit mixed with some veterans pans out. I think that's what you're gonna have to see as the season goes on. I will say Pokey has a pretty strong test coming up when they play next, or this week they're gonna play Idaho Falls the week after they play Blackfoot. But then they're gonna play Sandpoint on September 20th in Butte, Montana. And I think that will be, that's gonna be the game, I'll be a game of the week for someone, somewhere for sure, because Sandpoint's got a high ceiling right now. They're ranked, and Pokey tells kinda on the edge of being ranked as of last year. So that will be a big game that happened there in Butte, Montana. - Yeah, let's do a quick recap of some more of these games that were interesting to us, Sean. Blackfoot beat Preston 34-28. They Blackfoot snapped a 10-game losing streak that day to back to 2022. So that the new head coach Josh Stewart for Blackfoot definitely had a nice debut and kinda got his feet wet. Of course, he was at Declo prior to this, but nice first win for Blackfoot to break that losing streak and to give their new coach his inaugural game and his inaugural win. - Yeah, I mean, yeah, Blackfoot didn't win a game last year. And so to start the season off with a win, just a phenomenal job. I think that's what it takes. It takes just to get a win here, here or there to kinda get the ball rolling from a pretty, a pretty prestigious kind of program in Blackfoot. They're always really strong, had a couple of bad years, but really back at it. - Yeah, and then on the flip side of that, Sean, unfortunately, and you were at this game on Friday night broadcasting at Fridaysports.com. It was the East, it was the Gate City game night. Burley defeated Century Blankdom, shut about 33-0. So Century continues their losing streak at 11. That does also date back to 2022. - Yeah, and coach Cameron Anderson from Burley told me that they have 20 or 15 guys that are sub-power 5/40s. So they're fast. And that's what you see on the field, is burley super fast. Now the score is a little deceiving in my books just because Century was able to hold that lead. It was 0-7 at halftime. Burley only had what to hunch down. They had a couple big stands kind of in the red zone, and Century defense played really well. They just took so many jabs in that first half, come the second half. The upper cups were landed on the big bombs, and the big bombs are coming from Mack Jensen, who maybe has the quickest release of any quarterback I've seen. He's gonna have a good year, I think, no matter what. He's someone I would keep an eye on, just how well he gets rid of the ball. It just, Century never had a chance to sack him. And I think it's more because he just gets it out so quick. But Century will have to just regroup but know their defense played well. - Yeah, that's really good to hear, especially that they're only down 7-0 at halftime. Speaking of Century, we've got another comment here from Sam Buffington, says I forgot to tell you guys till now, I'll be seeing former Century Diamondback in Addie Butler in Spokane tomorrow. - Yeah, number five, Addie Butler, a phenomenal volleyball player at Century and plays at Utah Tech. Is that what it's called now? - Yes. - Yeah, I always forget. - Not in St. George? - Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, her brother plays tennis for me, but a phenomenal, phenomenal athlete doing it at the college level. And yeah, congrats to Addie Butler. - All right, so Sam, say hi to, especially for Sean, Sean actually knows her, but say hi from the East Idaho PrepCats to Addie Butler, right on. Let's move on to Bonneville at BK. This may have been the most surprising result. Well, maybe Grace Losing was more surprising this past week. But Bonneville took BK almost down to the final minute, Sean. BK winning 28-20. Tell us how that game went down, especially in those last minutes. - Yeah, well, I just, I was talking to someone about this and Bonneville kind of got smoked by Madison earlier and then BK just didn't come out and beat this Bonneville team. But Bonneville's got a lot of guys that are pretty good on that team, first year head coach. They've had some changeover, but yeah, I don't know, it kind of makes me wonder, you know, it was BK who we thought they were. - Exactly. - You know what I mean? Or did Bonneville just have another game and it'll be kind of interesting to see. Now, it might be one of those cases where Bonneville had played and I don't think Bishop Kelly had. - No, it was the first game. And they were on the road at the last minute due to the fire. And maybe just all the intangibles just played right into Bonneville's hands and the bees were able to sting, but just not enough. You know, they got, BK was able to get some Benner drill in and squeeze out a win. But yeah, you know, and BK was holding that 20. They were just up, they were kind of a big and then Bonneville comes back in the third quarter and then in the fourth quarters, 28, 12. And then Bonneville makes it to 20, but just can't get over the hump. So Bishop Kelly was actually leading most of the game. Bonneville just made a good stretch to come back. - Yeah, no, exactly. Cause they were up 26th and 3rd, like you said, Bonneville scores. Then Bonneville gets a turnover and Bonneville scores again. Bonneville won the turnover battle, Sean. And I think they had 21 fewer total yards and they covered them with their downs. Like something intangibles just worked out. Or Bonneville's a better team than probably thought, maybe BK not as good as we thought. Hey, if you're on here, you're a Bonneville fan, BK fan, hit us up in the comments, let us know. Are we getting this right? But yeah, Sean, it's very interesting for this first year head coach Shane Stevenson and his Bonneville crew. It's almost like it's been, you know, too many years since Bonneville's just struggled and you get a new head coach, new culture, new mindset. And it's like, hey, it's BK. They just drove here. What, how was it? Three or four, four hours or so, five hours or so? Like, let's take these guys and Bonneville kind of believed. Yeah, they were down big, but the fact that they came back and took them only last fight was super impressive from Bonneville. Yeah, and I think you got a point probably to the head coach Shane Stevenson, you know, he just, he had 26 years of experience at a lot of Arizona, 26 years assisting in Arizona schools, Carroll College, Montana, Helena Montana, Jefferson High, West Fargo, North Dakota, Mayville State, North Dakota. So, and then he was the head coach at Highland Prep in Arizona. So, I mean, he's obviously just got a wealth of knowledge and it translated well, you know, last week. Yeah. So, hey, congrats to, so BK won that game, but congrats to Bonneville for taking him, it's for only losing by eight and taking him all the way to that fourth quarter. Hey, Marsh Valley, Shawn. They beat South Fremont last week, 42, 13. It was Marsh Valley's, the first season opener win in 12 years. Yeah, just huge from Marsh Valley and huge for senior running back, Bo Larson. Huge game. Yeah, 201 yards, three TDs, 135 rushing, two TDs, 66 receiving and one TD reception. It was hard just to say that all, but wow, but wow, got it. You know, Marsh Valley's kind of always lurking. They're a team, they've got players, you know, can they put it together at the right times is what I want to see moving on. And then, and then Ryrie, they were against soda last week. Ryrie won, Shawn, they were down early. Then they, they were down in the first quarter and then they blew the door wide open and up beating soda springs 50 to six. It was the biggest margin victory in three years. Most points for Ryrie scored in the season opener in 20 years. Congrats to Ryrie Bulldogs. Yeah, nice job. Couple of you side of teams. You know, Ryrie, Ryrie isn't a team that pops up a lot on the football side of things. So a great performance for them. Yeah. And then, and then Declo played Napa Christian at Parma. Again, things were changed due to the fires due to the smoke and, and Declo took to Napa Christian a couple, a couple of the podcasters saying that that was a game that they were looking forward to. But Declo said, ah, ah, 28, seven, no problem. Brackenberry, Bodie Brackenberry, 80 yard touchdown, Russian touchdown on the first play of the drive. Stamping their sign immediately or their, or planning their flag immediately in that game. Declo goes up 2-0 on the season. Yeah, it's just a good job, 2-0. I think Declo is a team that is going to be in the mix definitely later on the season. I actually looked up on the map where Declo was the other day because I didn't know exactly where it was. So it was kind of neat to see where Declo is. So congrats to them. Yeah. And for those wondering why we're shouting Declo, I mean, Declo is technically a District 14 out there at that kind of Magic Valley. But in football, they are, they've joined up with Districts 5 and 6 in the South East Side Oak Conference of 3A. So that's why we're shouting out Declo 'cause they're one of ours, at least for football. If they're good, we're going to put them on, you know. That's right. But going back to true, Districts 5 and 6, Butte County, this is another game that folks were looking forward to. Butte County took it also to Valley 40 to 22. But Sean, there was no score until 10-30 left in the second quarter. I should 10-30 into the second quarter. And finally, Keaton Archmald on a fourth and long scramble for a touchdown. And later on, other stuff happened. But no score until 10-30 was pretty impressive. And the scoring got going. And Butte County ended up winning 40 to 22. Yeah. And just maybe the best name in football, Razor Duke, 90 RTD Rush. I love Razor Duke. I remember that name from last year. Yeah. Just a great football name. You know, Razor Duke for one, for a TD, easy to say. But yeah, Butte County is starting the season off well and looking to go back to get that blue trophy this year. And then one of the more surprising games we've kind of already teased this. But Raft River takes it to Grace, winning 56-42. We'll let the 8-man prep casters really get into that one. But Raft River came from behind. It was 36-36, Sean, in the fourth, 26 total points between both teams with scoring the fourth quarter. I love 8-man football, but you don't see that often. You know, and we did Grace's home opener, you know, me and you, Joel. And after watching Grace's defense, it's surprising to me, to be honest. But that's 8-man football. I think if you can figure out how to, you know, get something going with what the defense is presented to you, you can see these scores go like this and just very exciting to watch. Yeah. And then two more games for, from kind of our East Auto, Rockland beat Camus County, that was one, the 8-man football crew was looking at. Rockland took it to Camus County 60-14. That was the revenge game for Rockland as Camus County bumped him last year. Camus County was the 23 last year state runners up. So congrats to Rockland for getting that revenge game on Camus County. Yeah, definitely. I'm big on Rockland this year. I think they've got just the right mix of guys to do great things. You know, I think they're on upper trajectory. So, you know, I think the only problem is I think, you know, all of a sudden, they might have to play a Kendrick, right? Yes. That's a problem. You know, you don't want to say you're playing for second place, but maybe, you know, as the steam molds and gets together, you know, they're going to have high aspirations and I can see them getting it done. Yeah, although I think Kendrick is 2A, right? So you just-- Are they-- Yeah, they went up. So, yeah, the team's like Grace have to-- Grace and all those 2A programs. They get Kendrick Butte County. I forgot that. I forgot that. We're going to have to keep all these things straight for me. It's a lot. I got you. And then the final game from kind of our East Idaho Center teams, North Gem played Castleford. And this was one of-- Sean, I was tempted to say, no, Sean, I'm not given to Monty Morell. These guys have to take my-- our Player of the Week, but I went with Monty Morell. That was the right choice. But North Gem beat Castleford-- Castleford 52-to-6. Craig Yoast had 206 yards and four touchdowns. And then Rusty Hatch for North Gem, 149 yards, three touchdowns. Craig Yoast, of course, is one of our top running backs, top 10 running backs for idlesports.com. North Gem is one to know. And they scored seven touchdowns. Really looking forward to North Gem season. They started off right, one to know. Yeah, I mean, that was one of the games on the pick on iosports.com. That'll come out tomorrow where us broadcasters pick our games. And a couple of people are giving me some baloney about, why is everyone so high on North Gem? And the two names that come to mind was the Craig Yoast and Rusty Hatch. I mean, that's what kind of brought me there. And yeah, Craig Yoast, definitely-- he gets a shout out for a huge performance this week, carrying that team to a big victory. Yeah, and shout out head coach Corey Hatch. I like what he always says, keep running or run more, or whatever their slogan is. But I love how they run the ball. And it's just a lot of yards, a lot of touchdowns. All right, Sean, Rocky Mountain Rumble last week. We had two East Idaho teams there on Saturday. Highland played Carson from Nevada. Ruby played Wasp, that's where we already talked. Ruby, let's get into Highland really fast. Highland ended up winning that game 22 to 7. Again, any questions about Highland are probably being answered these first two games. I know Highland has a lot more games to go, but dude, Sean, I don't know if I didn't even expect Highland to be playing this well so early with so many new faces. I mean, yeah, kind of not. They-- Highland, the Rams are always-- they run a great program. The players learn through the freshman JV, and they're able to put these guys into positions that they are going to be successful. And I think that's what they do. I don't think they're like, oh, this person has to be a quarterback. I'm thinking like Beckles last year, the transfer from the Thunder to Highland. He wanted to be a running back. It was more of an edge rusher for the Rams' last year. And it was just-- He played great. And they're really good at finding the role of what's going to suit that player best. And I think that's what they've done. And also, Carson Bates had that big pick six 55 yards. It really sealed it. Because it was a pretty close game for most of it. But Highland definitely doing Highland things, putting it together. But I think Nick Sorrell had coach, and they have a great wealth of coaches there. And I think they just do a really good job of finding the player and finding where they are going to play best for them, even if they're supposed to be somewhere else. You know what I mean? I think they do what's best for the team. The Rams do. And the players end up producing. You had McCain Nolo. The game was tied seven, seven. McCain Nolo has this interception, then finishes off. And then they've finished off the ensuing drive with a rushing touchdown, with a lot of them to kind of blow the door open. And then, like you said, Carson Bates had that giant pick six. But the score was tied through the fourth quarter. So who knows what was going to happen? But again, that culture, those players who will go anywhere where the coach tells them they can trust that good coaching. And Highland ends up winning 22-7. We're talking about Ringbean Was at Shawn. Anything else there that you wanted to highlight from that game? No, I think the 99-yard kickoff return was pretty cool in the second quarter. Yeah, that was awesome. And that was Owen Golding. So, yeah, you don't see that too often. It's also pretty cool in the dome. But a good bounce back win for Rigby. And just remember, Rigby and Highland are in the same division, same district. So those games are always phenomenal. And that'll be on our doorstep before we know it. Yeah, no doubt. And by the way, Madison is trying to knock on that door and trying to get on that doorstep, right? But yeah, Rigby and Highland. So Rigby is now the Season 101, Highland 2 and 0. And then Skylon lost to Morgan. Morgan from Utah 2026. That game was close. And Teton fell to Soldatna 35-7. Let's get into some volleyball, Shawn. We had the Bulldog Bash at Ryrie. Ryrie hosting that volleyball tournament this past weekend. Top three teams. So teams there from East Idaho. Ryrie, Soda Springs, Declo, Chalice. But we had some top three teams that played really well, Shawn. Ryrie Kellogg or Ryrie tied with Kellogg and Oakley. They all went 10 and 4 so that you can say, I talked to their AD, a friend of the program. And he mentioned that you could say that there was a tie for first. They don't really, you know, do first, second, third. But Ryrie was right there. 10 and 4 tied with Kellogg and Oakley. And then other East Idaho teams, but that performed well. Soda Springs, they went 9 and 5. Declo 7-7 and Chalice in six minutes. So pretty good performance from those teams. Yeah, you know, Ryrie, Ryrie is always knocking at the door and volleyball. They've done a good job. And Soda did well. Declo Chalice, cool to see Chalice up in there. And just a good, a nice little tournament for all those teams. Matt Aris, AD at Ryrie, used to do idosports.com. He payed the games and the dome for state football last year. So yeah, shout out to Matt Harris. He also takes the notes from the IHSA meetings and posts them. And if you're really, really bored, you can read those. I know it's good information, but I do. Now yeah, thanks to Matt Harris for doing all of that. And for hosting that tournament. So congrats to Ryrie, Soda, Declo Chalice, for doing such a good job at the Bulldog Bash. And then Sean, the Bear Lake, the Bear Lake Ladies Volleyball. They won the Cokeville tournament. This is Utah, Wyoming, teams participate out there in Wyoming and Cokeville, Wyoming. Bear Lake wins it for the first time in 25 years. So congrats to Bear Lake Volleyball for winning that thing. That's been a big goal for theirs for a number of years. It was the goal this year. And they won that tournament. So shout out to Bear Lake Girls' volleyball. Let's go to Cross Country. The Terri Jones Invite at Milan at Sean Highland, boys and girls swept the competition there at Milan. The boys scored 35 points. The next closest was Logan with 106. Sean, that's phenomenal for Cross Country. Highland went 1, 3, 4, 12, and 15. Yeah, you just, that's how you get it done. I mean, you place up in those spots. I mean, 1, 3, and 4 is probably enough to win it alone. So yeah, great job by the Highland Rams running teams there. But, you know, a lot of other teams there. Yet, Idaho Falls, Snake, Milan, Shelly Westside, Grace, Rockland. So, and Marsh Valley, so well represented by East Idaho. Yeah, and the girls that was a little bit closer, they had 59 points. Preston was second with 74. And so the girls, yeah, they did not as good as the boys, that 35 points, that seriously, that's so impressive. Girls of 59 and other Idaho teams participated. Did a good job there. Sean, really quickly, let's bounce to football media before we get into the most interesting games of the week that are coming up. Football media poll came out yesterday, Sean. 30 East Idaho teams are in that poll. And again, we're including Declo, because even though they're in district four, they're in five for football. They're with the Southeast Idaho Conference 3A. So we're counting them, which puts East Idaho teams 13 out of 30 ranked doing a good job. So far, good representation from those East Idaho teams. Yeah, I saw that. I thought that was a pretty good number. We've got a lot of teams in the mix. I mean, we almost half the teams in the poll are from East Idaho, which I just think is phenomenal. It just shows how good the coaches are on IdahoSports.com. Also, the coaches poll just posted too. So check that out. I personally like the coaches poll better than the media poll. That's me personally, because we all know brand and votes on this media poll. And you know, what does he know? No, I'm just joking. I just like the coach as being a coach. I'm just the coach, Homer. I like the coaches, but just congrats to East Idaho in general that have that many teams where people are saying, yeah, they're going to be good. And it's just a credit. And really a lot of it from the media poll, everything kind of looks good to me. Very impressive that three A is in East Idaho, Sweepshan, one is Westside, two is Declo, three is North Fremont, four is Aberdeen, five is Firth. Pretty cool from three A. Yeah, and that's kind of how it's been for a long time as you've got a lot of teams from East Idaho and that division always buying for the top spot. And now to add Declo who's always there too. You know, it's I think the championship in three A's might come through East Idaho. It's got a good shot. Another bull. I'm putting down a lot of bold predictions. Well, let's get into some bold predictions, Sean. Unless you've got anything else about the rankings? Nope. I was just going to mention, though, one more thing, soda for cross country, the soda springs cardinal classic is Saturday cross country. So that's a huge cross country event. Lots of teams from East Idaho being there. Hopefully next week, we'll bring you back with some of those results. But yeah, the soda springs cardinal classic is Saturday. But let's get into the. That sounds good. Yeah, we'll look forward to that. We'll get you results from that next week. Talk about some top runners and performances. Most interesting games and matches coming up. So what Sean and I do, we both pick a game that we're looking forward to and we predict the winner. And the other the other has to pick also winner from that person's pick. So last week, of course, I picked Aberdeen American Falls and Sean picked it was first and Westside. And I was wrong. Sean was right on both of those. Let's go into it now. Sean, do you want to pick first? You want me to pick first? We're going to the game. We're going to first do Middleton versus Madison. Yep, go for it. Yeah, I'm going to I'm going to go Madison. You know, I've been kind of on a big Madison kick football wise this year. I'm going to I'm going to roll with it. I think they have a good chance to win this game. I like this just just because Middleton. They just barely squeaked out of victory over Nampa 20 to 17 last Saturday. And I and then I guess it's the case of like is Nampa much better than what we kind of thought. And that's what I don't know. But I'm going to go Madison. OK, I like it. I'm also going Madison last week. I had a lot of analysis on my pick. I'm just going east out of Hawaii, Sean. It worked for you. So I'm going to I'm going to try this week. No, I like Madison a lot. They're they're two and oh they have some good momentum or one and no two and it doesn't matter. But they're undefeated so far to an Oh and I think they beat. I think they beat Middleton in this game. So I'm picking Madison, Sean's picking Madison for that. And that's Sean's game of the week that he's or most interesting game that he's looking forward to. My interesting game. I'm looking forward to Sean is also football. There was also some great volleyball games, but I'm going to stick with football this week. Bonneville at Hillcrest, the Civil War. It's going to be at the it's going to be the inaugural game at the Westmark Stadium. This is Hillcrest, New Stadium. Hillcrest finally has their own stadium. You would think, well, why Bonneville and Hillcrest? They're both winless. They both lost to Madison. So like, why is this interesting? It's the Civil War. It's a rivalry game. Anything could happen. I love those games. And it's the inaugural game at Hillcrest, New Stadium. So I think that'll be really interesting. Like I said, they both teams lost to Madison. So they both have a common opponent to kind of scout out. Okay, how do they do against Madison? How can how do we do against Madison? How can we not do the same mistakes? Not only that that we want to avoid, but also how do we avoid the mistakes that they that they made. So I think I think that game is going to be really fun. I'm picking though, Sean, I'm picking the home team. We shot it. We shot it out Bonneville. We we sang their praises earlier in the program, but I'm picking the hometown team. It's the inaugural game for Hillcrest. I'm picking Hillcrest win in this one. Who do you got? I'm going to go Hillcrest as well. I like Titan Larson as the running back for Hillcrest. He's a good basketball player. I've seen him play football a bunch of times. He's a three-year starter. He's big. He's physical. He just recently got an offer to College of Idaho. So I'm going to go Hillcrest because I think Titan Larson, he's going to have a big game and be the difference in that one. Yeah, I like that. And also, just doing some scouting on both these teams, Hillcrest and Bonneville. Bonneville got beat by BK up the middle a ton and not necessarily running, but just their corners and their safeties were sitting too far back or too far to the sidelines and things were just nice and open for BK. If you get some Titan Larson open in that middle 10 yards into the secondary, that's where Hillcrest can really eat. Titan Larson can eat and with a little bit of speed, they can burn Bonneville through that middle. Bonneville needs to shore up that middle. Bonneville can maybe get enough defensive stops, but Hillcrest should really be able to take advantage of that open middle. So Sean chooses Hillcrest. I choose Hillcrest. Sean chose and then we both chose Madison as well. So very exciting picks. Let me tell you. And I also like Tyson Sweetwood for Hillcrest to quarterback. He's got a huge arm. He came in at the end of the state championship game last year against BK. And I've done a few games where he's gotten in and played and he has a huge arm. I think he's an X factor and Sweetwood is that he's not going to come out that much, but maybe at the end of the season, you're going to kind of look and say, "Oh, Hillcrest kind of had a sneaky quarterback who got some action last year, even though they had a good starting quarterback." So he's got some experience in some big-time game. So that civil war is a big-time game. That's who I want lead my team, someone with experience. Yeah, 100 percent. So we'll see how our picks do this week. Madison and Hillcrest, can they get their victories? And boost, well, boost Sean's lead and keep me in this competition. Other games of note, Sean, number five, Pokey. Number five, of course, based on the media pool is at IF. I'll be at that game. It'll be the east side of the whole game night on Autosports.com, 7 o'clock on Friday. Looking forward to that one. I don't fall as Owen won so far. Pokey's 1-0. I think I don't fall as wins that game, even though Pokey has the victory in the belt. I like how I don't fall as was three and seven last year, but they were close and a lot of those losses. They could have been 6-3 Sean going into the playoffs. And they have a lot of senior heavy leadership, senior QB Bradley Ellison, senior wide receiver Trey Kirkham. I like I don't fall as in this game. Pokey tell probably wins, but I like the home team. Yeah, I think it's a good game for both teams. I have coming off a loss, a Thunder Ridge, super close, 13-17. Thunder Ridge is a team we haven't really dived into, but I think they're improved this year. I don't know. I think it'll be interesting. I think it's kind of a tale of, you kind of have two quarterbacks that like to sling it, Hunter May and I don't fall, so who's defense can come up with some big turnovers? Yeah, and you're totally right. Bradley Ellison likes to sling it and he is a pretty good arm. So yeah, looking forward to the tail of two offenses. And then let's see, we got also at number two, Declo at number four, Aberdeen. It's going to be the first 3A South Eastern Idaho conference, Battle of unbeaten and the Battle of the first your hand coaches, Sean. Of course, Declo has Brett Jones. Aberdeen has Derrick Jolly so that they're both there first year. 3A, it's the first conference game along with a couple other teams, the first conference game of the year. Looking forward to that one. Declo scores 27 points per game, Sean. Aberdeen 20, I like Declo in this one. What about you? I mean, Declo's are just kind of put on some really good performances. So right now, I think you got to go Declo, but Aberdeen is a team. Again, you just can't write them off, but it's going to be a good test for both teams to see where they are at through these ratings or rankings fit where they are. We're going to find out. Yeah. And then number two, Rockland is at number one, Dietrich this weekend. It's another one, a battle of unbeaten. Both these seems undefeated and they both have demolished their opponents. They're really looking forward to that one. And then Melada at Ryrie, another 3A battle of unbeaten. Of course, there's only one or two games that have been played. Melada only beat their opponents 6-0. Ryrie, of course, we already talked about their opponents. So I like Ryrie in this one, especially that it's at Ryrie. Yeah, I would agree. Ryrie probably kind of has a little more juice in their step after that win. Melada, the Dragons are going to have to step up. So it will be also a great game. And then Northwest Showdown at Rocky. Highland is playing versus Summit as playing Summit, a team from Oregon, and the Rigby playing other team Moses Lake at Washington. Someone mentioned last night, they said, "I think Rigby only has two home games." And they were right. I didn't realize that Rigby only plays two home games this year, Sean. They're on the road a ton. So far, they're one-on-one, but really interested to see how Rigby does another road game this time against Moses Lake. Yeah, that's a lot of travel. That's a lot of time out of school. Maybe it pays off at the end of the season, because you've done that. That's what you're built on. You're not just sitting at home. A lot of intangibles there, but it should be some interesting games. It's always interesting when the teams go out of state and play. Let's go into Girls Soccer as we finish this episode of the East Title Prepcast. Girls Soccer, we have our first conference games of the season, Sean. I have at Shelly on Thursday. This is tomorrow. It's the first 5A high-coast conference game of the season. IF is 3-1, Shelly is 4-0. Who do you like in that one? Oh, man. I don't know. I don't know. Falls is always really sneaky good in Girls Soccer. They land under the radar. But this District 6, Girls Soccer is just going to be so hard to tell. I could tell you, Shelly could win this game Thursday. The IF could beat them the next time. And then they could play each other twice in the tournament. And who knows? I think it's fewer in the season than the point out of favor right now. But definitely Shelly always just finds a way to have some phenomenal girl athletes. Go to their gym. Check out all the state banners from Dance, Cheer, and other girls sports. So I'll lean a little towards Shelly just because I like the potato mascot. But I'm not real certain right now on that. Yeah, no, I'm leaning towards Shelly as well. But that's the parody of that high-coast conference. Girls Soccer is definitely alive and well. And then a lot of American Falls. That's also the first 4A South-East Hydro conference game in the season. Looking forward to that one. Volleyball, Sean, just to finish this off. We have the West Jefferson Invitational. East side-up participants are going to be Marsh Valley, Aberdeen, Westside, West Jefferson. So we'll have all the results for that one next week. Anyone in there that you're looking at, Sean, at that West Jefferson Invitational? I think Marsh Valley will be really good to see Westside had kind of a good season last or two. So just kind of see where those seems kind of kind of get some feeding under them and see what happens. It would be really exciting to see. Yeah. And then I think the most exciting for Volleyball this week. And we got one A District 5 and 6. That's the Rocky Mountain Conference. They're all playing each other on Saturday. So they've already had one conference game. Mackie B led or 3-0. But then multiple teams, this Saturday, playing, it's at Grace Lutheran. And Water Springs is going to be there. Clark County is going to be there. And then it's really interesting to see. They all show up at the same location and they play each other. Saves on cost, saves on travel. And they all get to kind of watch the other play and kind of size at the competition. So it's pretty exciting for those three schools. Yeah, it's like a tournament but not a tournament. Right. That Rocky Mountain Conference is gigantic. It's fun to have a big conference. I'm a big proponent of big conferences, big districts. And I want to get into that. But yeah, I think it's great. And I think it's just great for the smaller schools to have that ability. I mean, like you said, you get a scout too, right? You get a watch, see where you're up again. So there's a lot of good facets to that. Yeah, and I didn't misspeak. So it's multiple teams are playing at Grace Lutheran and Water Springs and Clark County. So those three locations and three or four different schools are all converging on those three locations to play one of their. So I'm very, I'm very interested to see what comes out of that as we get into conference play. Finally, the last game I'm looking forward to Sean, that we will definitely highlight on Wednesday on Tuesday. So next Tuesday, I guess this coming Tuesday, rematch from the 2023 state tournament, Sean. We got Grace Lutheran at Naki on Tuesday. And last year, of course, Grace Lutheran was number two seed. Naki was number four. Grace Lutheran ended Naki's tournament in the elimination game. It was game five, right? They played best out of five. They beat them 15, 11 of that 11th match out of 14. Just a phenomenal match took it to five games. But Grace Lutheran ended up winning that again with seven girls. You play or seven girls, you play with six. And then that allowed Grace Lutheran to go on and play third in the tournament. We're really looking forward to that one. Oh, and hey, I mean, we talked about Grace has eight girls this year. So I mean, who knows who knows what can happen. You had one more. I mean, throw it out the window. No, it'll be really good. It's always a good battle. And I always say, you know, I play a team 10 times. Probably going to win one of them. And just ones that one going to come. So they'll play a bunch of times in conference, and then they'll have that conference tournament. So this will be a good game to see. But I don't think it means only so much. I think it's always the second part of the season when you make adjustments. That is really important. What team can adjust better after the first kind of part of the season? But very fun nonetheless. Yeah, looking forward to that one and looking forward to all these games. Folks, this is going to do it for us. Oh, wait, I got I got one more game. Yeah, Grace or Sugar Salem is playing century tomorrow. That's not on the schedule, boys soccer. So that'll be a really good one. So tomorrow, before I believe at century, but they are playing tomorrow. So that'll be a good one, but it's not scheduled. Good, good test for both those teams. We already shout out Grace, Sugar Salem's, boys soccer, century, boys soccer. Someone we've been watching all season. We think they're going to go deep. So yeah, good 4A5A match up there of both those teams. Enjoy the weekend, everyone. Enjoy the game, enjoy the competitions. Sean, you're off this weekend doing whatever you're doing. Having a good time? I think I was fired, maybe. I don't know. I said something. I'm on administrative leave is what Paul told me. I don't know what that means. No, hopefully every so often we each get a little break and it's nice. And I'm going to go, what am I going to do? I'm going to go watch stuff. I'm going to go watch tomorrow. We didn't mention this when century played burly. It was at Iron Horse Stadium at Highland because the turf wasn't done. The turf is now done and they're going to play the first ever game on a JV game against Canyon Ridge. And I know a bunch of the players on that team. So I'm going to go check out a little JV football tomorrow, which is actually pretty fun if you haven't done. If you ever get a chance to go to some JV games, it's pretty fun. It kind of reminds me of 8-man football because it's kind of like that pace. Sometimes, but there's more than eight in JV. Yeah, for sure. Enjoy the weekend. Enjoy the weekend off. Enjoy those JV and celebrating your players. And I'll be at the POKI-F game on Friday night. Broadcast that with Jesse Richins. Tune into idlesports.com for all the live games, all the live action. Reach out. If you want to highlight a player team, you got Sean Kane at 182 at Iwan Edukador, and we'd be happy to highlight your team, highlight a player for our athletes and teams of the week. That's going to do it for us here on the East side of PrepCast for Sean Kane. I'm Joe Richardson, saying be excellent to each other. And we'll see you next time on the East side of PrepCast and atosports.com. [BLANK_AUDIO]
