Everyone is a genius. You only have to be great at one thing to be great. It doesn’t matter if you’re not great at everything. Don’t worry about your shortcomings. Find ways around them. Focus on what you’re really good at and build your life around that.

You can find it on Kindle and in paperback form on Amazon and the audiobook is coming soon. So check out "The View from the Deck Thoughts on Values, Vision and Gratitude" on Amazon now. Everyone is a genius, but if you measure a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it'll spend its entire life believing it's stupid. This quote is attributed to Albert Einstein, maybe he said it, maybe he didn't. But the concept is very important. You may believe that you're not so good at many things, and you may think, "Well, I'm not really all that because I can't do this or the other thing, but it does not matter if you can climb a tree, if you're a fish." The question is, where is your genius? How many things do you have to be great at to be great? The answer may surprise you. It's one. You have to be great at one thing. Not two, not ten, not fifty, and certainly not everything. You have to be great at one thing. I spent 20 years of my life discovering everything I wasn't good at. I was like Edison spending years discovering 9,000 ways not to make a light bulb. But then I discovered what I am good at. I'm basically good at two things, talking and connecting people. That's pretty much it. Everything else I'm okay at. But those two things, I can build a business, a life, a calling, a mission, even a ministry around just those two things. I don't worry about what I'm not good at. I don't worry about my shortcomings, my weaknesses. I either find ways around them, or I find people I can collaborate with who are strong in that area. So what is your one, two, maybe three things that you're really good at? What are your strengths? What are your gifts, your greatness? And you say, "But Michael, I've got these weaknesses. I'm disorganized. I can't focus. I can't talk to people. I can't sell. I can't understand people, whatever." You know, and those are somewhat crucial universal skills. But there are ways around all of them. I'm disorganized as heck. And yet, I find ways to work around it, to make it work. The key, the key, my friends, is to focus exactly on what you are great at. And do everything in service to that greatness. Do not work around your weaknesses, work towards your greatness. If you're great at speaking, then work everything towards getting your voice to people's ears, whatever that takes. If you're great at writing, if you're great at organizing, whatever it is, figure out how to do that thing. See, everything else is simply an obstacle to be overcome, so you can focus entirely on your greatness in that. That, my friends, is how your greatness will shine and make a difference in the world, make people's lives better, and do all the things I talk about. Make in the world a better place with the gifts that you have been given. Those gifts were given to you for a reason. It wasn't an accident. Focus on them. Don't make excuses and make great things happen. I have published a new book called The View from the Deck. Thoughts on values, vision, and gratitude. If you like morning motivation, you're going to love this book. A lot of the same concepts. The basic principle of the book is that I was coaching clients, and they were telling me about their dream life, and I was recognizing elements of their dream life in my everyday life. And it made me realize there's things in my life that people are dreaming of. And there's things in my life that the me of a few years ago would absolutely have given his right arm for, and chances are you've got the same. So, I took these concepts about values, and what makes us do what we do. Vision, where we want to be, and gratitude. Appreciating the awesome things we have, and put them together into one awesome book called The View from the Deck. Values, vision, and gratitude. You can find it on amazon.com.
