Greetings, citizens of Earth, you are barking a happy tune with my pal Smurf of Smurf and The Magic Tones on 5280 Geek. Live from the biggest studios, guess what, bitches, we're back. It's the weekend geek update, Smurf here. Ready to kick off an entirely new season, that's right, we've been away from the boards, we've been experiencing life, you know, going down that won and lonesome trail, that is the nerd, the geek, the collector of all things geeky, but it's time for a new season, time to kick things off and get things going and get everyone caught up on what's been going on in the geek first. It's been a while, yeah, it's been a while, yeah, so I've done some things, I've gone some places, I've chatted to a lot of people and all that is to come in the podcasts to follow, but first, we must do the most important thing, we must stop and acknowledge our sponsor, Dragon Metery, who is the producer of this year's Kofo Cabernet, but we again, of course, the creative-minded folks that we are here at the Colorado Festival of Horror, came up with a new name, the Stabername, this vintage is only going to be available at the Kofo Festival of Horror, you come, you're sampled at one, it is delicious, people are going to be raving from across the town and the word itself of just how strategic this is. Everyone asked me where that came from and honestly, I am sober right now. The Stabernet is produced by the wonderful people over at Dragon Metery, check out their link below and come and hang out with us this September 13th through the 15th, which is only a few weeks away, to sample Stabernet, it is only and exclusively available at the con, so come and check it out, have a drink with me or just buy me a drink and we'll chat and we'll connect and we'll see how that goes. And that out of the way and you can come visit, you know where to go, what else is going on? There's been lots of news, lots of stuff going on, some of the stories that will be coming up in the podcasts to follow as far as the state of the con universe, there's been some interesting developments, there's some movies that I'm kind of on the fence about as well as TV shows, every week though you can look forward to getting a big ear full of news. What's going on? Things that have caught my attention, we will be kicking off our coverage in two weeks from the Colorado Festival of Four. I may grab an interview or two from the All Seas Collectors Showcase, which will be coming up this weekend and in addition, we also have our beer launch party at Outworld Brewing for the Colorado Festival of Four this Saturday, the seventh. So lots to figure out, lots to come, hang out, do, do nerdly things with your fellow nerds because that's what we do. But without any further ado, and I don't need to bore you with all of the trivial stories and things that have gone on in the past few months because it's a lot, so, so much. I think I may need to just, you ever get back from vacation and realize, you know what, I could use the vacation from my vacation. There's just so much that's going on. I did a lot of cons, hence why there will be an exclusive smurfs take on the state of cons and there are some good things and there's not so good things to report on this. And I don't know, and I'm not going to go on to it now, but there's like kind of like a teaser of what, what is in my, my little bean. There's some interesting facts, some interesting stories, a lot of developments and I'm very curious to see how these stories unfold and how we see the landscape change because we're coming into the fall months, we will see a drop off on cons, it won't be as prevalent and I won't be traveling and doing as much, especially when I complete my own con in a couple of weeks and the work and energy that goes into building a con and putting on a con and just trying to balance all aspects. So there's a lot to consider, but since I consider my con fairly successful, we make money, we do well, we also provide an experience that is enjoyed by all. Not only the con goers, but us, the founders, in addition to our celebrity guests. So I have an idea and I've been asking specific questions as I've been out in the con world to everyone encompassed, not to mention, there's been a lot of feedback on things going on. So this will be next week's podcast, tune in and I'll be happy, happy, happy to go into a deeper dive. That's right out of the gate, let's get to the news. The new rings of power are up on Amazon and I'm very, very much surprised by that. I mean, I'm not surprised, but I am, because it was, there are so many things that could be done differently and I know there's already three episodes out and halfway through the first episode of the second season, you get lost. You don't really understand what's kind of going on. It's this weird approach to, I think, them trying to fill in the holes and licensing and all of that and my thought and take on that is if you can't get the licensing, don't do the gig. Well, like I said, I only got through halfway of the first episode and then I got tired and switched over to House of Dragons, which I haven't finished because there's been so many other things going on. House of Dragons I have different feedback on, but I will save that for next week as well. But if you're a Lord of the Rings fan, you may or may not agree with me and that's fine and any kind of toking material out there, I can appreciate it. I do enjoy it, however, ouch, Amazon, what happened, speaking of Amazon, next week is the premiere of the final episode of the Grand Tour, aka Top Gear. I'm so, I'm heart wrecked, I'm absolutely gutted about the three of these guys driving off into the sunset. Of course, I think it's titled One for the Road, so they are doing their final tour, their final challenge for this show and I don't know what is on board after this. I'm thoroughly invested into Clarkson's Farm, which is Jeremy Clarkson's other reality show that is just, I may, I may have mentioned how much I appreciate this show and how much I really, really enjoy the things Clarkson, not only the things Clarkson says and how he approaches situations, but I find them I am just absolutely fascinating. He is very idea driven, he is very shoot from the hip, he is just out there sometimes. But I do see the softer side and it is fun to interact with the chat and watch everybody going on about this, but this last season with the pigs and all of that, oh my God, talk about getting gutted, oh, there's some moments in there that just, oh, if you haven't watched Clarkson's Farm, please do, I can't recommend it high enough, go watch that. It's on Amazon, there's a lot of the stuff coming on Amazon that Vox Machina should be coming back here soon, so hopefully that will get people's attention going again over on that side of the fence, because there's been some weird stuff going on around the studios, which I'll get to here in a second. Beetlejuice is this weekend, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which is the sequel to Beetlejuice, which is a long time in coming, I honestly think you just run out of things that you shouldn't should not do. This is one of them, I mean, I'm not sure how I feel about it, and maybe it's just me being myself, and Red and I have gone around and around on this, and after a certain amount of time things just are done, you can't, you can't do it anymore, and that is that. So with the return of Beetlejuice, I mean, Michael Keaton looks great, the, all of it looks great, so maybe my concerns and my worries are a little bit misplaced, and I know that we have the ability to get Tim Burton involved, and I know there's even talk of getting a Beetlejuice cartoon going again, I know right now on Timu, no, Timu, hold on. It helps if I have my notes in front of me, so Tubi is actually offering all of the original Beetlejuice cartoons, which, believe it or not, were four seasons, it ran between 1989 to 1991, and was primarily, I believe, a Fox show, but I can't say that if that was the case nationwide, regardless. Tubi, bringing it back, all right, I'm totally in. The funny thing about this, and I don't think a lot of people understood that Tim Burton actually did direct the original animated series, it was part of his little thing, and maybe that's why it just stopped, because I do remember it being rather successful, but how long can you hold on to a cartoon show? Simpsons to keep people's interests and all of that, family guy, and who knows, and people move on, but if you've never watched it, I would go check it out, I am kind of indifferent about it, and I love that everyone is trying to push to get another Beetlejuice animated series, I know that it's in development, but that can mean anything these days, so I could just be people sitting around table drinking whiskey or wine, and just writing things down on a cocktail napkin, not that I've ever been part of those meetings. Beetlejuice will be in theater September 6, I know we will have reviews and everything coming up from 52.80 Geek for meat and potatoes, and we may even do a quarter's worth deep dive on Beetlejuice and everything. Chris has been a newly added member of the 52.80 Geek family, and give him a little love, give him some applause, he's a smart kid, he's got some wide-eyed naivete about some of the geek world, and I love hearing those fresh ideas, and you will too, it's all there in your quarter's worth. And of course our usual review of meat and potatoes, no spoilers, but we will let you know what we think of the film. Also, while we're away and speaking of new things to develop, lots have happened at San Diego Comic Con this year, and we'll dive into the particulars and the exclusives. I mean, two of the big standouts for me was a few major toy announcements, which I'm all for. We did get kind of a sneak peek at two in the box with an actual working and functioning PKE meter, which as a ghostbuster is so, so amazing. But the big one for me was Captain America Brave New World with the official trailer, which if you go to 52.80 Geek, it will be there. Now some of the thoughts and immediate reaction to this, of course I knew as soon as we saw a big red leg like that it was red hulk, and it's glorious. It is absolutely wonderful to see the red hulk, and I know it's long and coming, and I don't know if licensing and issues that have surrounded the hulk and universal can now be dissolved since the red hulk is different somehow, and probably with his appearance being in, you know, new Avengers, which went through the roof, and then everyone was kind of like, "No, we're going to wait. We're not going to sell a lot of my retailer buddies are like, "Yeah, I'm just going to hold on to it for a while," because it is, it is finally happening. It is going to happen. Which is cool. I'm fine with it. The interesting choice that came for me, and it took me a minute, is the choice for General Ross. It took me a minute to catch on. I'm going to admit, especially as they kind of tiptoe around it, and I didn't catch it right away, but the comment about having to shave off the mustache was like, "Mm, okay." Then to find out, yes, Harrison Ford is General Ross, which I think is awesome. Of course, it's Harrison Ford, who wouldn't think having Harrison Ford again be the President of the United States. This has got to be at least his third or fourth time taken up the role of the President or running for President. So that kind of made me chuckle, and then of course now this continues the contest between Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson for competing in film franchises. So now that Harrison Ford can add Marvel to the belt. I, for one, loved the trailer. There were some aspects of it that I'm kind of like, "I'm still not a Falcon Cap fan yet." And I hate to say that because of, it's nothing more than just my preference for Cap. I've never really been a big Cap fan anyway. He's like Superman, kind of little goody-goody, but I do admire his tenacity and what he stands for, and how he stands up for people. And I like how Chris Evans portrayed that. And I think it's big shoes to fill, and I think we kind of get a hint of that through the trailer, especially with the interactions between Sam and Ross. So to see all of this kind of play out, I'm really excited to see. I am a little disappointed, however, that we're getting this reveal rather quickly. Because in the comic books, nobody knew who the Red Hulk was for quite a while. Everyone just kind of was betting on who it could be, just the overall hints and things that were laid behind until we finally got the reveal, which I would have been fine not knowing for at least a little while longer. I'm more of the "who is it" versus "give it to me now" type of guy. I like the mystery. I still am pissed that we know Wolverine's past. Nah, no. Just me. So we get General Ross as Hulk, and all of everything else is going to fall into place. I've heard Florence Plume is already getting geared up for Black Widow. I have absolute faith that we're going to get Thunderbolts, and I know that it's on the docket. But Marvel changes these seats around like they do on the Titanic. We know it's going to happen. It's just most likely it's going to sink with the ship. So any minute now, it could change. Will it? I don't know. Captain America Brave New World is going to be in theaters February 14th. They've already set that date. Again, could change. Who knows? I know the Agatha series is coming, which a friend of ours is part of the crew. But I think he's doing special effects, or he's part of the design crew, or a little bit of both. I think he's more on the design side of it. But excited to see that unfold. White Vision has been scrapped according to my sources, and most likely will not be coming out, and that's a little sad. I was kind of looking forward to White Vision. So that's kind of the quick rundown on Marvel. We will do some further updates and dives on that. Also if you missed it, LEGO announced two amazing sets while we were away. One was the Legend of Zelda, and I think I may have mentioned it, but just in case, you can never have too many LEGO. And a Legend of Zelda set is perfect. The newest one that was announced and should be released soon is the Nightmare Before Christmas set, which looks fun, and again, it has some classic scenes in it. I want the set to be bigger. I want, like, Skellington to have his own mansion, or something along those lines, and I think there's some amazing characters that they could expand on that we don't see in this original new set release. A lot of things circling around the geekverse, and I don't know where this puts a lot of things, especially one of my favorite shows. Paramount Television Studios is shutting down and doing massive cuts. When I had originally researched this, they had already laid off 15% of its employees across the United States, and it has some very hard decisions in front of it. The press release reads this. This has been a challenging and transformative time for the entire industry, and sadly, our studio is not immune. Over the past 11 years, PTVS has weathered seemingly insurmountable obstacles through a combination of strength, determination, and unwavering commitment. We met these challenges with incredible resilience, creativity, and passion for what we do, and could not be more proud of our team. So the thing about this, everything from Paramount is going to transfer over to CBS, potentially, hopefully. So I don't know what this means for Strange New Worlds. I don't know what this means for Reacher, because I, for one, like those two shows. I mean, I know one of the flagship things was the whole Star Trek and moving forward, but then you get kind of the lackluster ending to discovery. Picard was the final season, the third season was probably the best, which we should have just probably started there. But there's other shows and other things that other people have enjoyed, and maybe not just because of me, but you're not because of what I like, but I mean, Murderbot, which evidently is one of the things that people really enjoy, I guess. I don't know. I've never even heard of Murderbot, so sure. The problem is, and this is something that we discussed ages ago, of streaming services, of what do you choose? You only have a finite amount of money and resources, so what do you do? You jump ship from the typical platform of network television and have these lofty goals of going out and striking out with their own streaming services, because this is the way, and this is the answer, and people are going to pay for our contents. No, they're not. You can't have too many things, and this is the same thing that's happening to the con world. You have all of these cons, there's only a finite amount of money. Even me, who needs to watch all this, kind of looks at this and like, okay, pick and choose. Apple TV was great when Monarch was on, and when they had Napoleon, but after that HBO, and HBO Max continues to, you know, keep me hooked, especially with the new Penguin series that's going to be coming up at the end of this month, and that for one has my attention, and not to mention they also have all of these other show, House of Dragons, definitely kind of kept me entertained. The Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy thing was a little weird, but yeah, you know, hit or miss, and then of course we have at the end of the year, in December, we're going to have the new animated series from Dun as we relaunch DC. So there are a lot of opportunities within HBO. Paramount, I think kind of as ambitious and as much as I would love to see them succeed, are just, are fighting too many battles with too many studios and instead of partnering up or working closer with your allies, they've tried to set themselves apart and him in that process alienated and stranded themselves in a sea of some great IPs, just inconsistent and no one willing to pay for it. So at any day, at any time, we may see your favorite show just disappear, and not that we haven't seen that already with some of the cancellations, and again, Lucifer's another perfect example of, well, Lucifer has other problems, but you know, it gets no renewals and everything moves, and you just never know what's going to happen next. I'm just going to be pissed, like I said, if Reacher is gone, because season three shouldn't be affected as far as watching it or it being done. I think they're almost finished filming or primarily done with their filming, and it shouldn't affect it, but moving forward after season three, then what? I don't know. I don't think it would be affected too much based on the popularity and just how much everyone that I have talked to loves this show, so we'll band together. We will save Reacher, if necessary, because what would Reacher do? Also coming out of San Diego Comic Con was another Marvel announcements on an all new comic book series that we'll be launching in December, which, okay, I guess, Kathy Blair and Peri Perez are going to be taking on the TVA comic series. Actually, it's going to be a limited series of five, which still makes no sense, six issue limited series, five just, I mean, to be fair, it does mean Marvel has to get to the point quicker, so maybe five issues is a better choice. Katherine did write the acclaimed Loki series, which I did thoroughly enjoy, I'm not going to lie, and maybe this we can see a bit of an overflow too Loki again. Now how this all fits together in the Marvel Universe, we'll see. It just kind of, I mean, their job is basically the same thing that we've already seen, kind of in the series, the theory to maintain the timelines, but kind of screams a bit like exiles, if you've ever read the series, it's thoroughly enjoying, and in fact, it's the first appearance of a particular Iron Man, infamous Iron Man, Dr. Doom Iron Man, that I think we also saw at San Diego Comic Con, which made everybody in the crowd jump for joy, but it deals with alternate realities and other worlds, and this kind of just seems to be the same thing with timelines, ultimate timelines. So instead of realities, it's time that goes away, I don't know. The mysterious all-knowing entity who keeps the TVA ticking like clockwork will recruit a new band of heroes charged with monitoring and regulating all realities and timelines. And joint ghost spiders and other universe-displaced entities, including Captain Carter, Heart Broken, Remy Labu, Gambit to those that don't know who that is, and more as they're sent through the multiverse on vital missions to repair a wild, temporal anomalies that keep reality itself from shattering. I mean, it seems like it'd be kinda cool, Kevin Feige said he loves this idea, again, it's exiles, it's not something we haven't seen, it's just a new label, I am kinda curious about the ghost spider, there are some interesting aspects and some cool characters, but again, without blank and morph, it just seems kind of meh, we'll see. This will be on Shell starting December 18th, so if you are interested, get it in your pull box. Another trailer that caught my eye, and I'll probably throw this into 5280geek.com, if you want to check it out, the Watchman Chapter 1 Red Band trailer from Warner Bros. rated R. No, I know, I'm sorry, I was almost going to do a bad Pirates of the Caribbean joke. I haven't watched it yet, the trailer came out and it was available on digital starting the 13th of last month. I'm on two minds of this and if you've watched it, shoot me a message, I'm very curious because the Watchman film in my opinion is brilliant, it is absolutely a classic, it's a masterpiece and it just hits on so many different things and I mean, yes, it deviates a little bit from the comic, but I still within reason. What was written in the comic before the film, some of it doesn't translate, but I think how they adapted and coped with the difference in everything makes sense, it all worked. So I have another Watchman come out, I'm a little bit on the fence, I don't know if I care, which is probably the other part of it, but it's hard for me to go down this rabbit hole again based on just how perfect I think Watchman is. So if you've watched it, let me know, eventually I'm going to get around to it, it's just a matter of when, it'll probably be within the next month, because I'm very curious, I'm very, very excited, I want to see what happens, because you know, that's the nerd I am. In other news, looking across the geek verse, this one, this one has sparked a lot of controversy and I'm not one for controversy, so I'll try and keep it as minimal as possible. But the acolyte was canceled not long after its premiere, and a lot of people are throwing a lot of different things across the table of, well, it's this, or it's this, or people are pissed off at each other, and there's a bunch of people saying, well, it's racism, or it's a long laundry list of things. As a fan, I can tell you this thing failed, because it was not good, okay? And Disney's actually even said that, that the, it wasn't even just the fans, but everybody kind of stepped back from this and went, ehh, there was a lot of potential. But when you go, when you drop as significantly as they did in just the third week of viewing, that's, that's huge, not to mention the budget that Disney put into this show, also, that's a lot to not get the return that you're looking for. As a fan, I was excited, and I still kind of hold to the premise that this could work, that it really, it really needs to be taken in hand by someone that is experienced. You hand this over to someone who's not as experienced in doing films or taking on something of this magnitude, it can, it can be, it can be a problem. I think the only person that, that right now, that shows vision that, that has an idea is, is Dave Filoni, and I'm, I'm holding to that because I've seen this man put some, some incredible stories together, and he understands the world, he understands the characters, he understands the mythos that's behind it. And as much as I want to have a, a high republic storyline, which I was all in, I was so in for it, but then all of a sudden, it gets convoluted. We end up with characters that doesn't, that don't fit the mythos, that don't get it. When does a Jedi lie like this? When is a Jedi deceptive? I understand them not understanding or being kind of, you know, removed, but at the same point, I don't think a Jedi lies and commits a conspiracy because isn't that kind of tip tone on the dark side? You're sabotaging the characters that you've already established as noble and good, and I can't, I can't point out someone in history who, you know, deceives an entire council to save a face. And you start building all these other facets to a story that we don't have any reference. Again, why? All of this that's going on without any kind of pretense is difficult. I know it's only eight episodes, and it was kind of a holy plot to begin with, especially when we're kind of revisiting a twins type scenario, which may seem reminiscent of another Star Wars story. There was an opportunity here to create something new and unique and kind of explore something. We got a little glimpse of Darth Plagueis. We've got a few interesting characters that shouldn't even exist as far as Timeline, which bears the question, how many years does this species live? We don't get Yoda, which was kind of one thing I was hoping for, with a lot of potential. Of course, none of these Jedi know what a Sith is, so they did kind of approach a few things right, and it just, again, you can't go from an eight episode arc and the third episode you lose the majority of your audience that just doesn't work out well. What the main problem with Star Wars, and I think this all kind of stems from when Lucas film was acquired by Disney, is there's no real vision, there's no strategy, there's no one behind the helm, I mean, you've got Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau. They are a voice in a very large hurricane of people, and I'm pointing at you, Kathleen Kennedy, who you just can't get the fuck out of the way, and God bless you, now that Filoni's in charge, I hope we never have to hear of you again, because there needs to be direction. This is not something that you can just throw together, and I know the fans are protective, and everyone is pointing at each other about all these different things, but you're dealing with a galaxy far, far away, I don't think they're upset about who's playing what or what color is who, it's a world of aliens. And I think it's not that it's another character, I think what it is, it's just another story that we don't know what we're going to get, that just seems kind of meh. Andor is a great story, and it's critically acclaimed, and people love it, you have The Mandalorian, which is now going to be doing feature films. So I don't think that people are upset about who's playing who, I think they're upset with just the shit that they're throwing at us, that doesn't seem well planned, well thought out, and the fans just want to see something that they're going to somewhat recognize, but they're all ready to move on, everybody is ready to move away from Skywalker. Even the people that dress as Skywalker and cosplay are ready to move away from Skywalker, it's inevitable, everybody gets it, and there's stories to be told, and I had such high hopes for Acolyte, I really did, I was championing up as far as I could, but again, too many holes in the story, too many, just nonsense as far as dialogue and characters and everything, the weird witch sect that I would have, there could have just been an episode of them breaking away, or it's just something, there could have been a little bit more than what we got. Ahsoka's coming back, and again, still huge hopes, there are some great caliber actors, there's some awesome story that can happen, especially with Thrawn coming back into the fold. So again, characters and story that matter and are well told is what we're crying for, not who's playing the characters, but that's just my opinion, the sad fact of it is that we have one last Star Wars story, and the Acolyte just did not have the momentum to sustain it, to keep it going, and that is sad. And I was looking forward to getting some high republic Jedi robes, you know, kind of strut around in that, kind of beef up my Jedi clothes, now not beefing anything up, just gonna leave it the way it is. Ah, moving along, so not to be a creature or give you any unnecessary information that you don't already want, need, or thought of yourself, we're kind of, I'm kind of mixing things up, I'm kind of restructuring everything, you know, stuff that I was thinking about while I was on the road doing cons and stuff, it was, I need like the news, which I just blessed you with, and now I'm gonna move on to like my takes, things that I have watched that I have absolutely formed, not solid opinions, but what my takeaways are, with the things that I have seen that I'm kind of like, okay, cool. One of the things, and I may or may not have talked about it, and the problem is, I don't remember. So, I'm gonna start with this and this will be, boom, nail, you won't hear me talk about it until after the Christmas special, and that's Doctor Who. I don't know if I talked about the last couple of final episodes, and which is fine, but the overall arcing story, it was interesting, again, I'm not a fan of the Doctor who cried, it's not the Doctor, I don't think anybody really recognizes, and it's not a question that this is just how that Doctor is, that's fine, I get it, you're emotional. The problem that I have with this is the moment that we should feel some kind of emotional gravitas, some kind of punch to the gut, is when he does have his moment, where he does break down, and it should be significant, because we are so numb to the fact that he's always crying, and he's always upset, and it lands very, very softly, there's no impact to it, and it's just kind of like, well, okay, suck it up buttercup, and we've got a world to save, we've got a universe to get to, and I think that's kind of one of my problems. Overall, Doctor, I liked, I know everyone knows my opinions about the poor man's Captain Jack, just bring back Captain Jack, I know, I know, I know, Barrowman would jump at a chance to get back on to the Doctor who train, and if he doesn't, I'm sure if you ask him, he will tell you, know it first, but if somebody said, hey, you want to be Captain Jack again, I will bet you he'll show it, he showed up for Jody Whitaker, he's going to show up for this one, come on, this would be brilliant for Captain Jack, and of course, I know they have said that they have asked him, and he has said no, but we can't really ever, ever trust anything, because everyone wants to keep it hush-hush, and that's fine, keep it hush-hush, but if you're going to try and recreate the magic that Captain Jack was, just bring back Captain Jack, there's no recreating that lightning in a bottle, not a chance, so everyone is worried about a follow-up season, and that's fine, you don't have to, because they agreed to two seasons when Disney signed the contract, so we're going to get a second season regardless, and we will get the Christmas special, which bears the question, what kind of special we going to get? I know that this is Steven Moffat's last episode, or so they have said, so he's promised he's going all out, he is throwing everything he can into this one, and I ever wanted him excited, I really wanted to see what he brings, and I mean the man created the weeping angels, which are absolutely terrifying, and yeah, now the last two episodes of this season left me somewhat annoyed, there are a few holes, but if this creature has been riding on the TARDIS, hasn't it, it been blown up also, I mean wouldn't it be dead by this point, the TARDIS is blown up a couple times, so in that, wouldn't he be gone to or revealed, I don't know, I mean we get, hold on, Sootek, an absolute badass, going back to the Tom Baker era, who I thought was awesome, we don't even get a look at his mask, which just one little callback would have been fine, but to just kind of leave it so, man, I was kind of annoyed, I wanted a little bit more, and it almost seemed like too tight of a ribbon again, and I know you only have so much time and all of that, but there are also so many different holes in that story at the end that maybe it was better that it just ended the way it did, but not even to kind of get a bit more of a wink, a nod, a poke through the past, a mask, just the mask would have been brilliant. I don't think that any of the actors did poorly, I just think it wasn't very well ridden, and I hate to say that about Russell T Davies, but come on, I mean there's it nice to see in Shuti and all of them at San Diego Comic Con this year, and I know it's it's a joy to interact with the doctor people, they're so excited and it's energizing and having, you know, interviewed a couple of doctors gone to galley one, seen them at San Diego, New York and Chicago, they are absolutely brilliant, and they're some of the most magnificent people I have ever met, and I just want to see the series grow and bloom into this wonderful vestige of sci-fi, yeah I didn't get that, by the end of it I was just ready, I don't know what to expect in the next season, right now I'm just excited to just see a Christmas special because I really think that one of the many mistakes of Chinnel, that's right, I'm going to still beat the hell out of that man like he's a whack-a-mole, was getting away from the Christmas special, that was such a stupid call, so I'm excited to see it come back, I'm ready for it, and you know what to be fair, there's always that first year that rough rocky start as a new doctor takes over, you're still comparing him to the old and you're waiting to see who he's going to become, and what kind of, what kind of doctor is he, and we may see some things change, we may not, we only have to just basically wait and see, but I have, I have absolutely face, face, face, ha, I have absolute faith in RTD, he hasn't let me down yet, so fingers crossed, while I was on the road, I had to stop, I finally stopped at a buckies, what sweet hell is this, this place is nuts, you think that the Walmart videos and people that go to Walmart are weird, maybe just because of the time of day that I went to the buckies, I don't know, but there are certain things that you do not eat on a road trip, and I think briskets one of it, like gas stations sushi or anything Hispanic, Mexican food, bad idea, you're in a car, cramped, millions of miles in front of you and behind you and all around you and you're going to stop and get barbecue brisket, bad idea, I'm telling you, I went with the breakfast burrito, but that is besides the point, having been taken out by a sausage burrito at a Starbucks has only strengthened my resolve and there are certain things you eat and don't eat, now the fudge on the other hand, okay that was kind of fun, I did like the fudge, that was tasty and yummy, but I mean some of the people wandering around these buckies, I mean again, maybe just because of the time of day that I was there and not to throw any shade on one particular group of people that frequent buckies, this is an attack on you, it's just one of those little kind of observations that I made walking around, there's some interesting things and some things that I didn't even know existed that evidently is a buckies tradition and we all have our roadside traditions, right, there was one when we would go up into the mountains here in Colorado that it was a soft serve ice cream joint, it was great and it was awesome and I miss it, there's also and it's in South Park, the hot dog stand that Cartman lives in is a real thing that does exist and used to go there, so that said, buckies is weird and my last take, I'm sorry, I had to go up on the buckies thing, it didn't scar me but damn and yes I bought a magnet and a pin and I almost wanted to buy a buckies beaver shirt, but I didn't, all right, I resisted the urge, I said yes on some things like the fudge, other things no, but I just am I walking around thinking as their hot brisket on the line gets screamed out, I'm just thinking to myself that poor bastard that is you know over there slaving over a hot stove and rotisserie to get that brisket done and he's got a stop and yelled at the top of his lungs, no thanks, that's like going out in front of a crispy creams donut and screaming in fresh donuts here, just saying, it's not it shouldn't happen, just let the poor man just shave his, shave his brisket in privacy, okay I regret, I stopped no more, no more, no more buckies jokes, my last take for this week's weekend geek updates, Umbrella Academy season four which came out on September 8, or excuse me, August 8, I've already watched and gotten all the way through and I'm kind of sad, not because of Nick Offerman or Megan Mulally's performance or characters or any of that, but I'm kind of disappointed in how it ended and I know after a while the story and the characters can run a little thin, little lean if you will, but this just seemed off, the first season of Umbrella Academy was amazing, it was riveting, it was compelling and it was great and season two was okay, just maybe not as strong, but they did still have some great moments, some compelling things, season three was really weird, disjointed and left you scratching your head at the end, season four just made me want to throw the remote across the room and just give up on Netflix altogether, I don't know what happened and I don't know if it was just because again you run thin on some of your characters and the impact and the story that you have to this point, well how do you tie this all up? Essentially, the ending to this was lackluster, stupid and just a waste, a waste of our time, it really, really was and as a fan and as someone who devoted their time and energy to the show, screw you Netflix, piss off, this was a slap in the face to the fans, this was disrespectful, how dare you finish it like that, that was stupid, did I say stupid yet, I think I may have said that this was stupid, the characters and everything that went on throughout most of this was good, it was great, I loved it, I wanted some more action, I wanted a little bit, like what we had seen in the first previous two years, I mean we did kind of go into this weird coast mode in season three that you know as they're speeding towards oblivion and again they're going to reset the universe and you know it's the same thing over and over again just in a different bottle and I get that you run out of things but you could, I don't know, do a different story, you could go a different direction, you have all of this material, it's your fingertips and this is what you decide to go with and the problem is, and I know this for a fact, one of the major problem is they wrote themselves into a corner, they couldn't get out of it and it just kept getting deeper and deeper, the characters themselves were great, I mean Elliott Page's character got seemed very angry and it seemed more than just the character's motivation behind that but that aside it just, I don't know, everybody just kind of fell apart and I don't understand the love affair between Five and Diego's wife, which doesn't make any sense, the whole rest of the timelines and everything else, again it just, and I feel bad, I hold the comic book in such high regard, I loved the story that this is all based on, Jared Way and Gabriel Ba are amazing and the story that they put out in the comics deserved a better ending than what we got, than what this story deserved, the visit back to the heart grieves lineage and Reginald heart grieves and how this all started is, I know it needed some answers but these aren't the answers that we were hoping for and it just again falls so flat, it doesn't seem very imaginative, it doesn't really seem very well thought out, I loved the performances that we get from Nick and Molly, they bring out such an amazing, or Megan's performance are great, they're a married couple, go figure because that's what they are in real life and you just get that chemistry between the two of them and it's just so much fun and it reminded me of season one with the hitman in the heads and then shooting everything, I know it was kind of like a tribute to that but I would have even been happy getting them back, just to have some kind of spicy but no and even when we do get some reveals and some firefights and some interesting new powers that we don't understand, okay, I mean there are some good explanations, there's just not enough of them, there's not a decent balance especially when we're dealing with technical boy or tentacle boy who was dead in season one but running around as a ghost which again, very creative, kind of cool, so seeing how that story changes and everything granted, nice, fun but still, very, and we don't get anything really of the Sparrow Academy which they spent all of this time on in season three just to have it just fall flat and the whole girl that came over into this dimension isn't even really referenced and just kind of forgotten about, so at the end of the day, the moral of the story, don't write movies about time travel, if it really were that easy, listen, I don't have all the answers but this is just my take on it, I really was hoping for a better end, maybe you have a better opinion, maybe you have a different view that doesn't involve me telling Netflix that they suck so bad, let me know, I'd be more than happy to entertain the thoughts because, you know, I could be wrong and on that bombshell, we shall say goodbye, I will be back next week to let you know what's going on, I hope to see you at either the collector's showcase for all seas at the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds or at my own beer launch party at Outworld Brewing Promoting Killer Brew, our own beer that will be highlighted and served at the Colorado Festival for the following week or if you're not able to make it, just come and hang out with us at Outworld, it's a good time, it's a fun joint and get to hang out with some people that are into some pretty horrible shit, no not really, just beer and wine, focus, focus amounts of wine, but in the meantime, run fast, laugh hard and always be kind, good night!
