When we trust God's timing, it helps us stay to stay patient and avoid frustration when things don't happen as quickly as we like. Welcome to Mind Matters with Dr. J. A. Jones. Dr. Jones is the head pastor of the Faith Community Church of God in Orange Park, Florida. Relationships, finances, our spiritual life, whatever it is, our problems start within our minds. Dr. Jones explores mental wellness through the application of God's Word in our lives. It's just what the doctor ordered. Let's join him now and dig into Mind Matters because your mind matters to God. Thank you and welcome again to Mind Matters, the show where we talk about principles that help us lead successful and fulfilling lives. Now today we're going to talk about biblical wisdom for getting things done part two. We have addressed the first three keys, which is clarity of purpose. You have to have a purpose, a clarity of your why. You need a reason and it gives you direction and it can motivate you towards certain important actions to get things done. I know you want to get things done in life. It could be a project at home, at work. It could be a personal project that only you know about. But don't be lazy, have a clarity of purpose. The second thing we discussed was planning and preparation. You have to plan because the Bible says the plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty. But those of us who is hasty, surely to poverty. The third thing was consistent effort. You've got to be consistent in your effort because the Bible says the soul of a lazy man desires and has nothing. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. You've got to have something if you want to believe. No. But the soul of the diligent, guess what? The soul of the consistent, the diligent shall be made rich or plenty or fat or you shall inherit good things. Now today we're going to address key number four or formula number four as we talk about. I have Cindy with me today. Thank you for being with me on nine matters. Wonderful to be here. Dr. Jones. Absolutely. So thank you. So today we're going to talk about number four, trust in God's timing. While we do our part, it's crucial to remember that ultimately God is in control. Yes. I feel a stirring in my spirit. Trust in God's timing. Yes. Everything doesn't usually go according to the way or the time that we plan it. But he's always on time and he will work it out for our good. Oh, absolutely. Well, the Bible says that it pleases the Aztees chapter three, verse one, to everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven. Those that wait upon the Lord, I believe that's from the prophet Isaiah, and this book is about prophecy, something that is going to happen that has not happened yet. So Isaiah 40 and 31 says, "But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings of eagles, they shall run and not be weary." Guess what? They're going to walk and not faint. So I love this point, be honest, trust in God's timing. His thoughts are not our thoughts. His ways are not your ways. Yes. So we got to know that as a believer in Christ as a Christian, one that is following Jesus, we got to know that it's so important in everything, whether it's your relationship, whether it's a project you're trying to get accomplished, you could be behind, you could feel pressure at work or pressure at home, or it could be a project at church or you part of a community or an association or HOA or what it may be, and you're trying to get things done, but people are holding you back. They're not doing their part, but guess what? God is sovereign. He knows our heart. He knows our intent. So we have to trust God's timing. Sometimes, well, yeah, sometimes it's important to walk in humility. Okay, yes, absolutely. Because like, you know, we have our plans, we know where we're going, we know what we want to happen and so forth, but the people we're working with too could be in a different season. Yes. And so we got to be humble enough to be patient with the other person's season. Yes. Yes. Absolutely. And extend grace. All right. Because God is in control. And so if we're trusting in God's timing, he's working with the both of us. Yes. Or whoever we're working with. Yes. Absolutely. And he will bring it together in his timing. Absolutely. So we got to be humble. We got to be patient. Okay. Absolutely. Yes. And stay in contact with the creator because he's the one that's in control. Yes. And we don't know what's going on. And it can be frustrating when we're trying to make something happen. And it's not the right time. Because when we trust God's timing, it helps us stay to stay patient and avoid frustration when things don't happen as quickly as we like. It also allows us to rest in the assurance that God's plans are perfect. Yes. That's so important. But just imagine planning a seed and then digging it up every day to check to see if it's growing. Who does that? No. You'll never see a plan, right? You got to trust the process and give it time to grow. People don't do that. The next thing is this. Number five, adaptability and flexibility is the fifth element. Life is full of unexpected changes. I think, and I hope we all know that because and the ability to adapt is crucial for getting things done. You know, I'm military, minded, still, I used to serve in the United States Army for many years, 20 plus years. And I've learned that you have to adapt. You have to adjust to overcome. You have to be flexible. We got plans. We go to the field. We got plans to do this. We have plans to get this done. But all of a sudden the weather might not cooperate or a fellow soldier might not cooperate or people shooting at you. I'm just saying, you know, amen. You know, so you have to adapt and adjust. You have to be very flexible because think about this. A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. That's Proverbs 16 and 9. Yes. I've learned that in marriage. Okay. Yeah. When you when you're in a marriage in a relationship with someone, you definitely got to be adaptable and flexible, especially as a wife. When you're yielding to the leadership of a husband, right? You know, sometimes you just don't know what kind of move they're going to be in. And so you got to learn to be flexible and adaptable. Absolutely. Yeah. We go through that every week when we try to figure out what we want to eat. Right. I know where I'm going and I know what I want. See, that's why I'm flexible and adaptable. Okay. That's another conversation. I don't know about it. No matter where you pick to go. Oh, my good. Well, you have gotten better. I'm going to say that kind of how you say it. And you have. So I thank God for that. For sure. Because we can have kind of peace in eating, you know, and trying to do certain things. You know, this is what the Bible says. Come now. You who say today or tomorrow we will go to such a city. Spend a year there, buy and sell, make a profit where as you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life. It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say if the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that. That's James chapter four. Starting at verse 13. And that's important because we got to be adaptable and we got to be flexible. Yes. In everything. Marriage, you got to be adaptable and flexible. Every day. Work, you got to be adaptable and flexible. In the community, in church, in everything we do with your friends, people you want to hang out with. Sometimes they're not, you know, right on point. So you got to be adaptable. You may have to listen. You may have to give advice. You may have to be patient. But we're talking about how to get things done as it relates to a project, right? It relates to anything in life that you're trying to get done. Because being flexible allows you to adjust your plans in response to new information or changes in circumstances. Because it will ensure you stay on track toward your intentions. Right. And that's so key. Yeah. And even, you know, in a church service, you know, people have different types of church services. Yes, absolutely. And but in that when we really want to hear from God, we really want him to have his way. We got to be flexible and adaptable in yielding to the Holy Spirit. He's made change our plans. We may have a set order of how the service is going to go. Right. God, he can step in at any time and change that. And we have to be willing, adaptable and flexible to go with that and not be so rigid and miss what the Lord is trying to because we don't know who's in the service. Absolutely. And you don't know what their needs are. Absolutely. But God do. Yes, he does. He does. And when people come to church, they want to receive. They want to hear from the Lord. Right. But if we're not receiving or yielding and being flexible and adaptable, somebody's going to miss what God has for them because we want things to go our way. Right. Absolutely. We can't do that. No, absolutely. I agree. We shouldn't do that. But that happens a lot. Oh, it definitely happens a lot. I mean, we're talking about adaptability and flexibility, which is key. But think about a tree in the wind. A rigid tree might snap. But a flexible one bends and sways, staying rooted and resilient. Flexibility keeps us grounded. And guess what it does? It helps us to weather the storms of life because you know why Cindy? The storm is coming. No, the storm is going to happen, especially in Florida. You know, we just got through a storm, a tropical storm or inclement weather. It's going to happen. You know, people may not have inclement weather where they are, but they can have inclement experiences and situations and relationships with their money, right? You know, with their family, right? Or the grandchildren, right? Or just things in the health, but because in order to get something done, we really have to understand clarity of purpose, planning and preparation, consistent effort. We have to trust God's timing. To me, I think that's the most important key of all of the keys we're going to talk about and have talked about. But like what we said, we have to be flexible, you know, just almost like some people love the stretch, right? So they can be more flexible. You just went to the stretch lab, right? How was that how was that stretch lab? I mean, we're talking about flexibility. Now, that's a physical thing, but it can impact you mentally. It can make you more calm and more at rest as well, as it relates to flexibility. Yeah, he's stretching me real good. Loosing some stiffness up where I was having pains and lower back and stuff, but not today. I'm different. I mean, the stretching helped. Right. Right. I think stretching before you work out, stretching after you work out, and like you said, I encourage you to go there based on your husband. Yes, you did. Yes. And you glad you went, right? It's called the stretch lab. I've been there before and it helps out tremendously. It really does a lot for your body. Shout out to the stretch lab. Absolutely. Because think about that's a physical thing, a physiology thing, but it also helps us as relates to getting things done when we're flexible. It is. It will feel better about it. Maybe not doing it, but after it, we will feel a whole lot better. Well, you able to move better after you've done it. Well, when you're flexible as relates to projects, you will find yourself moving forward with better purpose, understanding planning and preparation and consistent effort. And you have attitude of, I'm going to trust God because I know God is going to come through for me because I'm adaptable and I'm flexible because I don't know what's going to happen tomorrow. The Bible told me is that if the Lord's will, we shall live and do this or that in the book of James. So I love that particular passage as relates to us and everybody listening to me today. Thank you for tuning in. I'm glad you're listening to mine matters with myself, Dr. Jones, as well as Cindy Jones. She's with me today, and we're so excited for you to be with us today as we're talking about biblical wisdom for getting things done. And that is so key to get God's mind on the matter. Dr. Jones is the pastor of Faith Community Church of God in Orange Park, reaching a hurting world with the love of Jesus. We thank you for listening to mine matters, and we encourage you to show support for the many community outreach ministries that Dr. Jones and Faith Community Church tend to. You can give at Faith Community's website, faithccop.org, or just text money sign and the amount you want to give to 833-435-8022. That's 833-435-8022. We are blessed to be a blessing. Now let's get back to the program. Now I am just excited just to have this opportunity send it to be broadcasting and speaking to people and encouraging people. To me that's so important as it relates to life because my mission in life is what God gave to me years ago, helping others to reach their full potential as a man and as a woman. And any other relationship they have, that's my mission to help God's people reach their God-given full potential. Because in the book of Genesis, God said to them, be fruitful, multiply, subdue, and have dominion, replenish the earth. Be fruitful. Be fruitful. We got to be fruitful and it's so important, right? That means we have the ability, he blessed them to be able to do that, right? Man and woman. Yes, and you face challenges every day. So you have to be ready to live the scripture, Proverbs 16 and 9, and James 4, 13 through 15. Right, right. So because you're going to run into situations every day since you're helping people to reach their God-given potential. Absolutely. I knew I'm on the front line and I don't mind, but God would give me grace, right? He gives us grace, he endows us with his grace and gives us more grace to be able to accomplish an assignment that he's given us to do before we leave planet earth. Right. And I think that's key, right? Right. And during the process of our purpose, right, he is maturing us in developing his fruit or characteristics in us. Yeah, well, the Bible calls that the fruit of the spirit. Right. The Bible says, walk in the spirit and we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Okay, which can be challenging. Yes. Because sometimes our fruit gets squeezed. A fruit gets squeezed. Okay. Yes, you know, like you run into various situations to develop your fruit and make it sweeter like with the cash years or the tellers. Absolutely. You got to be patient. Yes. Yeah, because they don't know what they're doing. They don't know how to give change on a dollar or whatever it may be. It's crazy. But we're talking about biblical wisdom. Absolutely. Biblical wisdom for getting things done. I don't know anybody and being flexible. Right. And adaptable. Yeah. Well, I mean, that's the fifth key. We're going to get to the last one in a minute. There's a link to, which I think, again, it's one of the most important ones. They all are important. I don't know who does not need biblical wisdom. Right. We can have wisdom in this world and it only can take us so far. But when we have God's mind on the matter and we have God's perspective and we embrace that perspective, we're going to go further than we think we can. Right. So, we already addressed clarity of purpose. Know your why. Everybody has to know their why in your marriage. Know your why in your work environment. Know your why in your community. Know your why. You got to know your why. You got a plan. Right. I do believe in planning. Sometimes I don't do it like I need to do it, but I do believe it's important. We got to be consistent in our efforts. We have to be adaptable. Adaptability and flexibility. It's so important. And here's the sixth key. You got to check your energy. Managing your physical, mental, and emotional energy is key. It's crucial to productivity. Then we're talking about being fruitful too. We just mentioned it. First Corinthians says this and first Corinthians chapter six, I believe, or do you not know your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you whom you have from God? You are not your own for you were bought with the price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are gods. Cindy, there's so many people don't have energy. They want to accomplish a task. They want to do a project. They want to follow through with an assignment that they've been given by a teacher or professor or a person of authority that they respect, but they don't have the energy. They're depleted in their physiology and their body. And that's so important. I can testify to that. And what we need to do, the check to see why our energy is low or why we don't have the get up and do it. Get up and do it. We don't because this is what the Scripture says in Psalms 127. It is vain for you to rise up early and sit up late to eat the bread of sorrows for so he gives his beloved sleep. People are not getting enough sleep. I don't know what the statistics of what's the latest data on that. Some people have heard say, "Oh, you don't need but four hours of sleep." Some people say, "Oh, five." Some people say, "Six." And you live. They say, "Work hard as you can." And you'll be in the grave soon. But I mean, really, because hey, I think it's important for us to get the right amount of sleep so we can have the level of energy to get things done. Now, we're giving our audience and even ourselves, it starts with our house first, and we help someone else. The Bible say, "It is vain for us to rise up early and then sit up late, right?" Some people go to bed at one o'clock and they get up at five. If you do that seven days a week, Houston, that's a problem. Your body's going to break down. You're going to feel tired, and coffee can only do so much. Come on, coffee can only do so much. It's going to get you wired, but you're going to have a lull and you're going to have a big drop. Yeah, it'll take you so far. And I've experienced all of this, you know, as far as why my energy. And right, we said before, you got different seasons come in life and you want to accomplish different things. You got to be adaptable and flexible because life is going to come at you even in one day the rest of the day. You don't know what's going to happen. Yes. And so, checking our energy, why we have the energy that we have. And I am not never claimed to be an athletic or athlete, I should say. But, yeah, I have to make myself exercise. Yes, you do. I have to push. I'm like some people they will just love to just... I'd be in an eight hours a day if I could. I know you would. But that's not healthy either. No, it's not. At the gym or working out or whatever. No, but we have to know our bodies. Right. No, absolutely. We have to know our bodies. We got to do what we know we need to do, as far as eating right exercise. Take care of ourselves. So, we can accomplish the task that or the goals that we have said in life. Well, again, the thought today is about getting things done, part two. And having got mine on the matter. And you can get things done when you're sluggish. Oh, no. And you run out of energy. Oh, no. You can think about it, Cindy. You can do... You can have a purpose. You can plan. You can have consistent effort. You can say, God, I'm trusting y'all. I'm trusting your timing. Oh, I'm adaptable. Yeah, I'm flexible. But guess what? If you don't get enough sleep, if you don't eat nutritious foods, if you don't take care of your... Think about it. If you don't take care of your mental health alertness, your energy level significantly impact your ability to get things done. Yeah. And we do the Daniel Fast every year. And you have done well in many ways. And I have done well in many ways as it relates to our body and our health and our weight. We're not overweight, but we understand what we eat can cause us to be lethargic. Right. You have to pay attention to what you put in your mouth and how it affects your body. Absolutely. Absolutely. And so, in order to do whatever God has called us to do, and even in our everyday life, and as we age, that changes with time too, all those things we used to enjoy eating when we was younger, those donuts and ice cream and all that good stuff. Absolutely. It's not good. Yes, it is. I love it. It's good to me. It's good to me. No, it's good. I don't know what you talking about. Yeah, well, we was in our 20s. It's still good to me. It's still good to me. 1440 came, Lord help us Jesus. Okay, that's you. Now talk about you. Don't talk about me. Okay. But just imagine it's sending trying to drive a car with no fuel. Right. No matter how hard you press the pedal, the gas pedal, you ain't going nowhere. Right. When you're out of gas, you're out of gas. And most of you feel it going to the station and the gas light is on. Right. That means you've been driving too long without refueling and you wait to the last minute. I know I'm talking to somebody today or some man or some woman. Some people love to wait to the light come on. But no, that ain't how the car is designed. It is a warning, warning, warning, warning, you're about to run out of gas. But if we don't take care of our body and mind, our productivity will come to a halt every time. No, every time, you know, every time. So, it's so important for us to understand we got to check our energy. Yeah, most people don't check their energy. Yeah. And it affects our mentality too. Yeah, you know, you don't think of things as quickly you're even in your prayer, your spiritual life. Absolutely. Because your body is not in tune, even spiritually, you can't discern things as quickly. It doesn't, it doesn't click. No. The clicking is slower. It's a clog in your system and your body in your spiritual life. It impacts every area. It's all connected. I am so glad you tune in to mind matters, whoever you are, wherever you are. And I'm so thankful for you to be listening to this mind matters radio show with myself, Dr. Jones, as well as my wife, Cindy. We have been discussing biblical wisdoms for getting things done. We own part two. We already talked about purpose. I hope you get it because faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. I hope you have clarity of your why. I think people don't have a why, like they need to have a why. And a lot of times we don't have a why. You lack motivation. You lack initiative. You lack drive. People just do things just to do it, especially when somebody else wants you to do it and you have no desire to do it. But you've got to have a why. You've got a plan. If you're just tuning in, we're talking about biblical wisdom forgetting things done. I know there's a lot of time management workshops and all of those things and personal management. Those things are good. But if you don't have a spiritual component to any program, it won't last. And that's what we're giving you today audience. We give you what God has to say because God knows more than anybody else. I don't care what degree you have. I don't care how much money you make. You got to have God's mind on what's going on in your life because we are spiritual beings. Yes. And we have a soul. Your soul is what you think. And it consists of the choices, your will and also your emotions. Yeah. And it's so important. And we live in the body. And we live in the body. Thank you for being with me today on Mind Matters, Cindy. And audience, thank you for joining me on Mind Matters. Today, we have explored the formula, the biblical wisdom for getting things done. We have talked about clarity of purpose, planning, preparation, consistent effort, trusting in God's timing, adaptability, flexibility. And we talked about the importance of checking your energy. That could be the key, right? Well, you're not getting things done because if you overeat a lot, if you're not eating right, if you're not sleeping well, if you're not protecting your mental health or your mental wellness, it can cause you to be depressed, discouraged, but understand by incorporating these principles into your life, you can achieve your goals and live in alignment with God's will. So important because success is not just about what we achieve is, but it's more about how we grow and glorify God in the process. So tune in next week for more helpful insights to help all of us lead a successful and spiritual life. God, I pray for our audience. I pray for those that were listening, I pray that they would receive this biblical wisdom for getting things done because it is the best way to move forward in life in their relationship, in their mind, in their finances, in their life.
