So your three keys you've heard all week Marcus Freeman talking about keeping these guys focused getting the phone call from Jim trestle. The players who will hear from in the second half of the show as well. They talked about the need to stay locked in but at least three keys versus the Northern Illinois Husker. Three keys start fast. I talked about a little earlier. We want to be able to get off and score at least 21 in the first quarter. I think that's the goal to strive for because like you said, I would like to see that third, second, third, maybe fourth unit or guys on the lower half of the depth chart get in and get some and get some run into the third fourth quarter. And the only way to do that is you got to score at least 21 in the first or or make it hard to come back from early. So starting fast and scoring 21 in the first would be my first key. Second key, let's have a passing touchdown. I'm not just one, but let's let's see if we can strive to get at least four. I think four is a good number because one, it makes up for last week and two, it shows that Riley does have some skill. It takes skill to get four touchdowns. You know, you can get lucky and get two. It takes skill to get four, you know, because you're consistent. So that's a that's a that's a hard reaching one. But I think it's something that needs to be a strive for. I mean, hell, you the top guy with no passing touchdowns. How do you get to New York? He can have to have five for Northern Illinois last week. Oh my God. So like, come on, dude, you you you starting bad. Now if we try to get to New York, you can't have zero touchdown games. It just can't happen. Last one. I think it is hard to give a defensive one for a team. I just think we're over over like we're just way better than defensively over their offense. But it's the same thing. The NIO is going to run the football. So limiting NIO under 100 yards, I think it's the goal because if we could do that, then I know that secondary is going to come alive if Ethan starts to throw that football. A lot of blown covers just by the worst team one of that versus FCS teams that knew it was a noise ball. And it's so funny left because if you go back what's in Illinois has put forth a lot of NFL talent over a lot of 20 years, bro. A lot of talent has come out of that program and they've fallen on really hard times, really hard times. I think they were winless last year. The way they looked against Northern Illinois, they're probably going to end up being winless again. I'll be shocked if they won the game this year left. It was really bad. So it was that bad. Yeah, yeah, it was that bad. You know how you watch the full game. If you watch the highlights, the highlights usually make it look less or it's not as bad watching the highlights as watching the full game or watching all 22. If you just go watch the highlight, just put an N. I N. I. You husky football and watch the highlights from last week. It's like a three minute clip. There's nothing but busted coverages. No penetration in a run game. To get holes is literally hallways running hallway but running back. It's crazy. They do a shovel pass. A shovel pass that the runner navigator, the receiver, technically, is the receiver. Never got touched. If it was a shovel pass from the nine. From the nine left, eating a touch. It was the I'm telling you, what's the Illinois was that that? Northern Illinois literally took their foot off the break. I mean, put their foot on the breaks. In the fourth quarter back up for the back was in like end of the third. And he scored and let it touch that drop. Oh, it's man. Man, it's a Donor walk. Northern Illinois played Western Illinois last week. They with me. Man, dude. Let's talk back. Sometimes people, just people get uptight, man. We're just in a world where everybody wants to count, man. They just want everybody feeling. I got to count. I got to disagree instead of just then back listening, getting the full context. Obviously, he came in mid conversation. I'm talking about what Northern Illinois did against Western Illinois and how Western Illinois historically has been a really good program. They've fallen on hard times. Western Illinois is a Tony, Tony Ramos program, right? No, that's Easter. Oh, damn. They got East West and all of those programs were really good. Like stepping stone programs back in the day when the transfer rules were different. Even at the Eastern or Western, a lot of those kids ended up in Illinois. A lot of those kids ended up in Missouri. Oh, so that was like a feeder school to like the local schools, the power five at that time, power five schools there are nearby. It is very much a big step up, right? Notre Dame is taking a step down in competition from last week. Northern Illinois is taking a considerable step up. Who do you think is going to be more difficult for in this game left? Probably just offense. I think just our offense to stay more consistent in drives. I think we, you know, Devin for play stands out, but that play could have extended the drive. Demir got to touchdown. There's missed opportunities in the red zone that we've had that can be more consistent. It's just it's just such a polar opposite from our offense to our defense. It's harder when you talk about things, defense gets better at it's minute. It's things that are like, okay, that's just to he just got to see it more or whatever the case is. We have an execution problem sometimes offensively. So the gap, I think is closing that would we'll get closer to that as we go through the season. Like a Northern Illinois game is a game where you close the gap. Also, scoring four touchdowns, being dominant. So now with Notre Dame building a perception to the rest of college football and the rest of this schedule, is that what you're saying? We can. We can help build a perception of all these guys are nasty. It doesn't matter who they're playing. They're putting up 45 and playing their young guys by the fourth third quarter. That's what Alabama was doing. Hell, Jordan does it every week, except now they've taken it to a level where they're putting in their young guys in the first quarter. Integrating young guys in the first quarter of the play. So, you know, I think that we have enough talent on the roster to where we don't have to, you know, kill our starters with a heavy production load against teams that we can get out of here by the third quarter. Let this still be an angelic season or a Kenny Menchie season by doing what we're supposed to do early on. And I think you would get the most out of more players because when we was with Brian Kelly, like we had Josh Adams and Dax and all these guys, we'll give Josh Adams a ball a thousand times. When we asked CJ and Josh Adams and Dax, we gave CJ the ball a thousand times, ran him into the dirt. Literally, ran him into getting injured. He was injured going into the league, and it's just crazy. Josh ran him into the dirt. 33 trucking, trucked the whole time with running backs on the roster. I haven't got to the NFL of Josh Adams. He had two knee braces at running back. He was done. Yeah. Two knee braces at running back. Come on, bro. You might last six weeks in the NFL. So it's like, now we don't do that. Now it's like, Dean of McCulloch is round Robin in the room. Who want to go? Who want to go? Who want to go? And I like how he's as much as Jeremiah Love in my opinion is the one. Judea and Price got it in crucial moments in the game. It was a hot hand thing. Yeah. He was sticking to the two top dogs, but hey, he's not afraid to put in the running back by committee either. Yeah. Well, you did. Was that did you get through all three? My last one. Yeah, because I got off on it. It's hard to give a defensive one because, oh, no, I did. The last one was the defensive. We can stop a running, you know, and I use Ontario Smith kid. Ontario Brown. Ontario Brown. Not bad. So we can slow that down. I think it gives us more opportunity to get the ball back on offense. So we can score more points, you know, more three announce equals more points. That should be our ideal theme for this game. Yeah, it was very impressive what the Northern Illinois Huskies were able to do against the Western Illinois leather decks. I always want to always laugh at their Hey, what's the other noise? A great party school, by the way. Yeah, we used to make the trip to Macomb a lot as Illinois students. That's got to be in the middle of nowhere. Is that Macomb? Yeah, yeah, it's the southwest of Champagne. Champagne is nothing up there. Champagne is central Illinois though. It's more central, right? It's smack dad. It's really not central. It's our 15 from Chicago Champagne. It's a real yeah. Well, the way I drove back in the day, I was 90 all the way. Oh, it was our 15 for me. But, you know, our 30 minutes to Champagne from Chicago. Not that. So it's like, it's not really, it's getting close to Central Illinois. Macomb, Illinois State, Illinois State is really it's kind of in between Eastern is literally Southeast from Champagne, Western is Southwest from Champagne. And then you have Illinois State, which is Decatur, which is me not Decatur of Normal, which is straight across to the West. So there ain't close proximity. The only one that's a great distance in Southern Illinois, which is basically you might as well put it in Memphis. It's literally at the bottom of the state, but they won 54 to 15. As I said, left Ethan Hampton 225 yards. He was only 15 to 20 or five touchdowns. That just lets you know, bro. 33% of his passes went for touchdown. Yeah. That just lets you know. And then the Rudolph kid, four receptions, 104 yards in one touchdown. That one touchdown once again was a blown coverage. And then Ontario Brown, they're running back eight carries for 69 yards, you know, they do. They treated Western Illinois the way they were supposed to be treated by a Mac team. Yeah. Honestly, they treated Western Illinois the way I expect Notre Dame to treat them. Yeah, we should treat brother. Yeah. Remember, we gave you this money to come out here so we can tap on your head a couple times, right? So let's keep it like that. Let's not make it like a surprise. Like, Oh, we're giving them the game of their life. So let's get through these match ups before we we have some GTB questions too. Let me get to those GTB question. Andy Milton fan, do you think running backs like the round robin rotational? Do you think they want the ball every snap? As an athlete, you definitely want the ball as much as you can. Now in 2024, everybody's thinking long term and band, brand and staying healthy and all that. So, you know, I don't think the callus is there to take the ball 25 30 times a game. So I'm sure they have a good community thing going for us to be recruiting at a high level in the running back room, dividing up the bread like we do. Those guys got to have a selfless personality to begin with. Because yeah, if I go in there, I'm gonna crew. I'm catering. I'm like, I gotta chair my love. I got this guy. I got this guy. I got this guy. I don't know if I'm selfish. I want 30 carries a game. I'm not going back. So for their personality to be like, Oh, running back up by a committee can still get me to where I want to go credit to Dean, I'm a color, obviously, but also credit to those guys that we find the right guys. Hell. And that's a lot of what the assistant AD said yesterday. He said, listen, we got to find guys that more of the guys that fit that mold for Notre Dame. We might not get the most attraction because of the the bank situation or our tough policies. But if we can find more Notre Dame guys, like the way Marcus Freeman has been doing them, the AD, the assistant AD thinks we got them, but I don't think we got them yet. But he said that he said they're out there. But yeah, I mean, but you know, we're keeping up with the Joneses don't always fit in the policies of what we carry as Notre Dame. So how long does that ride next to each other? I also asked him, I know there's all topic, but I also asked him about what playoff positioning being at the highest that we can go is five. And those games being cold in December for that first round with that push us to potentially join in the conference. Because I mean, I can only imagine he said, well, the way they set it up, this the best place we could be to get the most out of it. He said, well, eight years from now, maybe we got to see how it goes. But he said the way Jack set that thing up, he feels like Notre Dame is in the best position they could be being independent and all the things included. I agree. GTP question from our guy Irish, Gloria and not. What is an impressive stat line for Riley Leonard against Northern Illinois? 300 fold touchdowns. And like 80 on the ground. I don't even know what he's going to play enough. You get those stats. You get 300 fold touchdowns. Yeah, you starting fast. Starting fast. I'm going to say to I'm about the lower the bar really low. I can't even believe I'm doing this. 15 for 22 to 33 touchdowns. And leaves the game after one drive in the third quarter. 230 on 15 throws, you balling. Left, I told you. Yeah, I mean, you know, I wasn't focused on the. You know, you. Yeah, some chum plays. Yeah. See, that's that's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about. You got to run the hell out the ball, then that's all that me. Yeah. Yeah. Leave a galante GTP. It's Lucky Lefty SD left headed to Atlanta, October 19th. I am being my boys for college from the eye. We're going down there. You said from the eye? Yeah, one of my boys, he lives in Atlanta. So we made a trip. We're doing that trip. And then remember, I told you, we're going to see Illinois Duke. Yeah, I'm going to be a good game. Yeah. It's in February. So those are two trips that we're taking. So it should be fun. We come back left. Let's get into the plate. What they had to say, some very interesting stuff. You're going to like Jayla sneeze comments, you're going to like, both college comments. And oh, man, looking at the run gap. You have it in front of you, love. We'll get the thumbs up, thumbs down. And before we go, give your clean sheet. I'm sorry, love. Give you clean sheet. Clean sheet. Yes. So on the game, man, I thought what we did well was control the momentum. I thought we always had a good opportunity to stay in the game and score when we needed to. We was never taking out of that position of, oh, we're hoping that takes a message up. It was always in our control, which I loved. And we can win like that, as long as we keep the game in our possession. Defensively, they did exactly what I thought they would do. Make it manageable. Give us an easy game. Hell, all we got to do is score what? Three touchdowns, that's it. Okay, we can do that. And I think that is going to set the tone for how we need to address the rest of the year. We don't need to score 100. We need to do enough to win. Then we sprinkle the rest on top. And then lastly, the CR special teams make an impact, change the field a little bit, shows that all three phases of the game are operable, but also we need all three phases until we figure out what that identity is going to be to start kicking off these points.
