And if you want to see their new movie, "Wolves" you can't do it, win help yet. I can do it. Do it. You definitely go to Apple TV Plus. The minute is cool. Okay, fine. It's very cool. "Wolves" upstream September 27th on Apple TV Plus. Where did it are? It's mailbag day. Anthony says, "With the cub scoring 41 runs against the pirates, the last 3 games, will Notre Dame and A&M combine for more than 41 points this Saturday." This is a good question. I've said this before. I think if anyone gets to about the 27 mark, they'll probably win this game for sure. You can maybe even take that number down to like 21-24. I just don't see Texas A&M having a lot of success against Nerdy's defense. So this could very easily be a 24-10 game, a 27-13 game type situation. I'm going to go with the under because I think Nerdy's defense is really going to hold it down to start this season. I think the offense will do enough on their end, but I don't think A&M's offense will do enough. The Vegas over under is 46 and a half, and I've said my number is under. I'm right around 44 points that I have in the total, so I think it'll be over 41. Not sure about that 46, you know, I would go under the 46 and a half. Like I said, I'm so close I wouldn't touch that 46 and a half. It's a season opener. There's just like, there's so many things that are going to happen in this game that I think none of us are expecting, you know, that's kind of part of it. And I'm not, you know, like alluding to, you know, like I've got some kind of inside information. It's just, it's a season opener and you've got a new head coach on one side, new offensive coordinators on both sides, all this different stuff. Both starting quarterbacks are coming off injuries, lower leg, you know, foot injuries last year. There's just a lot of unknown in this speaking of which DK says, scale of one to 10, what's or worry about Leonard's injury and what will it be if he makes it through this game? I don't even want to broach this subject. Um, I mean, Riley Leonard's injuries is my number one concern about this entire season. Game staying healthy, this is a team that should make the playoffs and make a good run into the playoffs. I think he did the right thing of, you know, getting healthy in the spring, not overly pushing it, doing what he needed to. So if 10 was, you know, and I'm absolutely worried every play he's going to go out, that's where I would put that at. I would say just like a three or four, right? Like I still think with a guy with injury history, it just takes, you know, one kind of wrong hit twist compared to, you know, someone else that doesn't have an injury history. So yeah, I comfortably say this number is around a three for me. I think it's important to remember, as we've said before, the injury that he suffered last year was the first one of his career, played an entire season in 2022 from the time he got on the field in 2021, he was on the field for the rest of the season. Like last year was it. It was a little bit of a fluke freak kind of thing, you know, the way Cross came down on his leg at the end of the Notre Dame Duke game. So it's there, I think, honestly, just watching him out there at practice, watching him run around, listening to him talk about his health, listening to Marcus Freeman talk about his health. And really, it's one of the last things that I've even thought about going into this game. It's much more X's and O's than everything else. So I'd put it like a one for me. That's where I put it. I thought I would be much more concerned a few months ago, but that was when we still, you know, hadn't seen him practice any of that different kind of stuff. Rabbid Nile, when Notre Dame wins Saturday, which media person are you tuning in to watch eat crow? Paul Feynbaum. Do you think he'll actually eat it though? I think he would have to at least mention it because it's a, it's Notre Dame beating an SEC team and he loves the SEC. How much he decides to divulge into it is one thing, but he'll definitely have to bring it up. And, you know, I will say, I will say, you know, like when the subject comes up, he has been willing to eat it in the past. Now that I kind of think about it a little bit, you know, not just with Notre Dame, but just in general, you know, like he's, he's not afraid to poke himself a little bit, which I think you have to respect, especially when you are a lightning rod. Only when only when Lane Kiffin is on, right? You know, but you got to give one, you got to give Lane the, the credit for going on Feynbaum's show. I mean, he had the cojones to go on there and call them out on his own show goes on there on Feynbaum's show and brings it up and then Feynbaum, you know, kind of sit there and take it. I think that's his punishment though, he should have to bring on like Riley Leonard or, you know, whoever might be like the star of the game, right? Like that's who he's got to have come on the show. I see some people saying Desmond Howard, but Desmond Howard already kind of put his foot in the door when he said Notre Dame should, should make or it's like a lot to make the college football playoff this season, right? If they win, if they win this game. So I think he's kind of given that like, you know, half in, half out kind of response. Salty, what are your biggest questions and certainties for the Texas A&M game? I mean, the obvious one, biggest question is how the offensive line holds up. I think the next would be how improved is the passing game big questions defensively. How do the young linebackers adapt to a hostile environment on the road and a lot of their, you know, their true kind of first starts as linebackers. And then I think my biggest certainties is defensively how they're going to perform as a unit. I think the secondary is going to be great defensive line is going to find ways to create pressure. And then offensively, my biggest certainty is the performance of Jeremiah Love. I don't know how he's going to do it, but he's going to be a guy that's going to get a lot of touches in terms of, you know, rushing the ball, catching some balls out of the backfield. I think he's easily going to have, you know, probably over a hundred total scrimmage yards by the time it's all said and done Saturday. Biggest questions, I mean, just piggybacking, obviously the offensive line is the biggest question because we have to see it live in action, two new starters, and really it's a completely reworked offensive line, completely new starting five this year compared to a year ago, because obviously Shrauth and Craig, as much confidence as we have in them, and even a mill wagner, like none of them were starters last year, most of the talk is about the two guys on the left, but it's a very raw offensive line, but it's also a very talented offensive line, and it's a pretty physical offensive line, especially those three guys in the middle. It's like you got three physical guys from guard to guard, and then you've got a couple of, you know, pretty light-footed guys on the outside at the tackles, but that's still the biggest question mark, defensively, biggest question is the linebackers, especially based on some of the stuff that you were talking about yesterday with kind of how, you know, A&M wants to get the linebackers flow in one direction and then maybe cut back or use misdirection, eye candy and all that kind of stuff, how are these, this young inexperienced group of linebackers going to respond to a pretty physical kind of, you know, 12-personnel heavy, you know, running style that kind of climb the offensive coordinator is likely to throw a lot of biggest confidence is the secondary, I think the Notre Dame secondary is going to be lights out, lockdown, Saturday night, you know, really looking forward to seeing Christian Gray on a full-time basis out there, opposite of Benjamin Morrison, and I think that Xavier Watts is just going to, going to patiently wait for a mistake to be made and then pounce and he's going to be a big factor out there. Offensively, I'm confident that Riley Leonard is going to make winning place and, you know, I don't want that to sound like, oh, Ian Book, you know, he's going to play winning football, this kind of stuff, there's, there's that different element. It's funny because Mike Denbrock was, was asked about Riley Leonard being a running quarterback at his media availability yesterday and he quickly corrected it and he said, dual-threat quarterback, we have a dual-threat quarterback and that is the important designation. It's not all going to be what Riley Leonard can do with his arms, it's obviously a big part of it is also going to be what he can do with his legs and I think that that can, you know, kind of help negate some of that inexperience on that offensive line, what you're going to get from Riley Leonard's running ability. Sleep and probably listen to less amount of analysis right like because the more you listen, the more your brain starts to don't say that you can't tell people to turn it off. What are you doing? After this, after, after your daily dose of Irish breakdown, that's all you should listen to. Yes. Yes. Come on, man. I don't even know. Thanks for the Super Chat, Tyler Evans, who needs a win more Florida or Miami? This is a tough one. I think Miami's, I think they have more expectations this season at a national level. They're in an easier conference. Um, so for that reason, I gotta go Miami. I mean, Napier's probably coaching for his job. I think that I'm, you know, they're going to play Miami and Florida state. I'm going to go with Florida because playing the SEC again, like Napier and they've been, they've been struggling and trying to get that turn back around since Urban Meyer left. And that's been a while now so I'm going to go, I'm going to go with Florida. I mean, they both have a lot to lose in that game, but I say Florida because playing in the SEC, like they can't afford to lose an in-state game to Miami, you know, like Miami can absorb that a little bit more as long as, you know, as long as they get right and things go well for them in their ACC schedule, which is no guarantee either. But I think it's easier for them in the ACC obviously than it is for Florida in the SEC. Andre coming early with a We In We Out, that's tomorrow's show. Don't forget you can go to the new champions lounge and post your We In We Out questions for tomorrow's show, but he wants to know Jeremiah Love will we have a hundred yards receiving slash rushing. So combined, I'm assuming is what he means. I kind of let the cat out of the bag on this one when I was talking a little bit earlier. I think this is an over for me. I think they've emphasized a lot during this offseason that Jeremiah Love has to have a vital role in this offense and its and its success. Yeah, I agree. I think that I think that it's not all going to be Jeremiah Love. I think Jadarion Price is going to play a big factor in this game as well, but I think I think Love combined yards. Yes, he will get to 100. It's timey, the Love Fest. Are you picking the Irish to win by double digits or going less than five like the doubters? When I push, what if it's like seven or eight or nine? Well, the question is simply, are you picking them to win by double digits? You can't push on that. It's either yes or no. I have to say no, because that's like basically, you know, a two touchdown difference between the spread, because I think the spread right now is favoring Texas A&M by about two and a half. So let's call it three. Line did come back down. I don't know if you noticed that. It got up to three. It was at two and a half today on Bandal. So again, that's a two touchdown swing. I have to admit it. The books usually know more than I do. So again, I think that this is under under 10. I've got them right at 10. That's my prediction. You're going to have to tune in to count down to kick off to hear exactly what my score prediction is. But I've got Notre Dame winning by double digits, exactly 10 points. Salty says, estimate on the 53 man Broncos roster really make the final cut. Well, I mean, that is the final cut 53 is the final cut. I was surprised. Like it sounds like there was a little more drama in him making it to the final 53 than I thought there was going to be. Yeah, I was a little bit surprised by that. Because their drama was itself induced drama for no like fan drama like I thought he, you know, if a team drafts are running back and he has some and he has success like he did in the preseason, I don't, I don't know why they would cut him, you know, yeah, no offense to Audrey. But I wouldn't have cried if you know, he had been cut in the cowboys down there in Arlington, you know, snatched him up, but hey, they signed Alvin Cook today. Okay. I like that. I like that. I thought it was a move they should have considered last year, but you know, typical JJ fashion, he went the cheap. He waited for the bottom to fall out and then, you know, now he'll pat himself on the bat if it ends up working out because he didn't have to pay anything for it. We kind of covered this a little bit before does the repeat, rapidity of Pendleton's rise to starting left guard surprise you. Now that he has it, hey, does he have it locked down, basically? I don't think any offensive line position is considered locked down at this point. I think that they have an idea of who the best group is going to be and until that plays out in a game, I think that's ultimately going to be the deciding factor. So I wouldn't be surprised if like if someone's struggling a good amount against Texas A&M, they can't keep them in there without, you know, like they can't become a liability. So, you know, if they start to struggle, I don't think anything is locked down. I agree with that as well. I was just looking at Joe's comment, you know, that is, that is a good point. I have landed over 300 total yards and love over 100. That's over 400 yards of total offense. Not so fast, my friend, because obviously Jeremiah loves receiving yards, will be part of Riley Leonard's passing yards. It's a track out like maybe 30 to 40. But you don't, you don't double it up though. Right. No, I agree. Right. So just like all the receivers who catch a pass from Riley Leonard, like it's still Riley Leonard's passing yards and then whatever the rushing yards total ends up to be. No, layers, right? USMA, use a VIN diagram overlap. I like that. I love that Vince is his picture, by the way, that is some good stuff. Who's picture? USMA 87. It's both amazing. Is that VINs in there? Raising his hand? I could barely see it. It's probably, well, I'll, I'll close my mouth. Let by guns be by guns. I mean, Joe, DK threw in a Cowboys starter jacket question right off the bat. So, you know, involuntarily, it came up. Rabbit now, how many celebrity sightings will we see at the game? I don't know that there's necessarily a lot of celebrity affiliated people who will show up down there. Like it's not, it's not Austin. It's not the Longhorns where like Matthew McConaughey is going to show up or something like that. Good question though, I don't know. Salty says, Josh paid among many others has picked the Aggies to win. Why so many of these pickers were home. I don't under, I really don't understand why people do seem to be so confident in Texas A&M. Like the biggest part of everyone's argument is, oh, the environment at Kyle Field and it gets so loud and all that, like, is that going to be a factor? Sure, it's going to be a factor. But like I said, how big a factor was it a couple of years ago when Appalachian State went down there and won? Like there's a, you've got a brand new head coach, a brand new offensive coordinator, a starting quarterback who hasn't played that many games in his career. Riley Leonard has played almost three times as many games as Connor Wigman. You've got questionable skill talent on offense for A&M. You've got a secondary that they think is going to be better. But that's a question as well, especially against Notre Dame's upgraded wide receivers. So I mean, I guess everyone's got to pick somebody, but I'm surprised that there does seem to be so much pointing in that direction nationally towards Texas A&M. What do you think? Yeah, I think that, really, that if Notre Dame was playing this game at home, I think that there wouldn't even be a conversation. I think Notre Dame's defense is, you know, Farley, they're not Farley, but it's going to be more talented than what Texas A&M's is going to be. And I think really the ultimate thing that shifted this line was Notre Dame's offensive line that came out. I think those kind of things coincided when you started to see the line kind of switch a little bit and you talk about an offensive line, an experienced offensive line having to play on what is quote unquote the most difficult environment in the country. I think that's ultimately where the line started to shift. But nobody's talking about how good Notre Dame's defense is. There was a good video yesterday, a 12 minute video from a guy on three. I can't think of who his name is. He's got kind of like a kind of shaggy blonde, just kind of hair, thought he did a really good, honest, non-biased breakdown of the game and who his overall pick was going to be and why. So I think that is a worth a, I can't think of the name, but it's definitely worth the watch. Like he said, like, he said a young guy, maybe around your age. Yeah. We're on my age. I don't know what you're talking about. Talks about Notre Dame has seven of 11 guys coming back on defense. They have a top safety, a top corner in the nation too, you know, interior alignment that are really good. And then you go to offense and it's like, Jayden Greathouse is going to be great. Chris Mitchell is going to do enough to stretch the field. You have an experienced quarterback with Riley Leonard, like, and he talks about, you know, the pros of Texas A&M as well. So I wish I could remember it, but it's definitely a good video to watch if you can find it. Yeah. Like Andre says, don't you get three points for being home at least? Yeah. And I mean, like that's, this is basically a pick them game that because it's being played at Texas A&M, that's the biggest reason I think that the line is in A&M's favor. Like when you're talking about a home team being favored by three, you know, like if you're just looking at it from that perspective, this is basically a pick them game. If you were playing it on a neutral field, Texas A&M gets two or three points for being at home. This should be a fairly close, fairly competitive game. I know there are a lot of Notre Dame people who think that, you know, Notre Dame is going to go down there and blow them out. I'm not willing to go that far, but I've felt all along like between what they get from Riley Leonard, what Notre Dame gets from its other skill position players and what they've got from Al Golden's defense that to me, that's enough to swing the game in the direction that it needs to swing. Someone found it for me. His name is JD Pickle, and I just dropped the 12 minute video, YouTube video in the chat. If you're interested, I think it's a really good listen. All right. Great questions tonight in the mailbag. We got a ton of questions tonight in the mailbag, and don't forget tomorrow's we and we out day. Okay, Jesse has a little bonus whiteboard for us today. And we're going to start this is Mike Elko's 505 alignment. Is that right? What do they call it? 505. Yeah, so this has a couple names, but this has been coined by Mike Elko as the 505 alignment. And the reason why it's called the 505 alignment is because you have three down defensive linemen. You have basically two defensive ends playing a five technique. So let me do some better stuff here and get some, so we can some draw some things. So this defensive end is in a five technique, this defensive end is in a five technique. And then the nose is straight up playing in a zero technique. So when you have three down linemen and each of them are one of them is playing a five, the other one is playing a zero and then the outside defensive end is playing the five. This is called a 505 alignment and so again, you have the zero nose and two five techniques with your defensive ends on the outside. So why is this advantageous, why the emphasis on this? Yeah, so kind of first of all, it's an odd kind of presentation. You can mix and match a lot of different alignments off of it and it's mainly to kind of manipulate the offensive protection schemes because you don't necessarily know where is coming from where. This is a big, Mike Elko loves to run this on third down. And what you're going to do is you can mask your intentions as a defense. You can overload alignments or get into some kind of bare alignments. And what I mean by overload is, so again, these three guys are the basis of the defense. But everyone else around them, these linebackers are, they can be moved around. You can put them outside the defensive ends. You can walk down another defensive, sorry, a linebacker down to the line. And now again, you have one side that's really overloaded with four guys and maybe only two offensive linemen. So again, it forces or compliments a lot of different pressures that you can get out of this. You can stretch the protection by placing these, you know, these edge rushers on the outside of the defensive ends. Like I was talking about, you know, this linebacker over here, this linebacker over here. And that gets really tricky because ultimately it forces guards to play like tackles, right? Because they have to, this, this left guard and this left tackle are going to be responsible for these two outside guys. So you know, this left tackle is going to have to kick out hard. This left guard is going to have to kick out hard. And again, it forces that guard to kind of play more so as a tackle. So that's, I guess, the biggest stress that it poses to the offensive line. Is that or is there anything else, you know, that would be the biggest stresses kind of ranked in order here is again, it, it, and this is going to be a big challenge for Notre Dame's inexperienced young offensive line is it's going to kind of confuse protection because you don't know where these guys are going to be coming from. Some of these linebackers could drop off into coverage and, you know, maybe you only bring two, but maybe you bring all four of them, right? Like, you just don't know what's going to happen pre snap. So again, for a Notre Dame offensive line that's young, this is something that I could see as a lot of, you know, potential trouble. But how you negate this is you don't get into a lot of third and longs. You make sure that you are, you know, serviceable on first and second down. Get two to three yards, just no negative plays. Stay ahead of the chains and don't allow yourself to get into third or long. Are there, are there kind of variations of this, I guess, that they run? Yeah. So, you know, this, again, this is a big third down alignment from Mike Elko, but he has, Mike Elko classifies this into, into three kind of packages. You have the hot, which means you're bringing all six of these guys. Let me get back into you're bringing all six of these guys up front, right? He has a warm package where you're only going to be bringing, you know, potentially four of these guys in some sort of variation. And then he has a cold package where he's only going to bring the 505, the three guys down on the line of scrimmage. He's going to drop the rest or the eight into coverage, right? So that's it. You have, he has, and that's what makes it hard again, because pre snap as the offensive line, you don't know if they're bringing six, if they're going to bring five, they're going to bring three. And again, those are all classified by Elko as hot, warm, and cold, you know, depending on how many guys that he wants to bring. So it's kind of like a zone blitz type package that he's throwing up there, basically. Exactly. They are definitely going to play zone off of this. And again, another advantageous, you know, I guess aspect of this defense is these linebackers can blitz from anywhere, right? Like they could blitz off the edge, they could fold in and blitz in between this, this, you know, five technique and zero technique, these, this linebacker over here, and this linebacker here on the edge, they can play games and, you know, stunt around, like it is going to be a very tough situation if Notre Dame gets into third and long and allows, you know, Mike Elko to get into what he calls this 505 defense. And I think specifically, you know, to kind of tie it all together, it allows Elko to match the situation and the specific field zone on third down. He has, you know, different packages that he can run onto this based on where they're out in the field, what hash they are on the field, and, you know, essentially what kind of zone coverage they want to play out of it. So if you're Riley Leonard, like what, how are you countering any of this? Yeah, I think that the biggest counter, let me kind of undo some stuff right now because there's a ton of lines. It's a very madness scribble fest that you have up there on the board. Yeah. So I think that the ways you negate this, just kind of off the bat is, you know, right now you're lending with only three down linemen and playing two linebackers outside the defensive ends. Immediately you look at where's the hole? It's right in the heart or the middle of this defense, right? So I think if you can essentially find ways, you know, to use some of that RPO and allow kind of that middle of the field to open, I think Notre Dame's going to have to run the ball with some success. And I think ultimately, you know, Riley Leonard's legs is what can negate this style of defense, because when you're bringing pressure like this, anytime, as we've talked about before, anytime you bring pressure, you're going to create some open lanes. And I think it's got to be on Riley Leonard to find those open lanes and kind of in those RPO schemes, know whether or not he needs to give the ball or take the ball depending on what he's seeing out of those linebackers. And that's part of what he has done so well in his career so far is being able to do some of that. Find those running lanes and counter some of those different pressures. But I guess my final thoughts on this is I would be really worried if I'm Notre Dame knowing you have a true freshman at left tackle and they get into a third and long and you're asking again, you know, nap and the left guard here to really stretch out and fan out against, you know, a defensive end and a linebacker who are going to be pinning their ears back and trying to get to the quarterback with no regard essentially, they're going to be coming fast and they're going to be coming hard. Well, I mean, like we were talking about yesterday about what you do with the tight end if you're Notre Dame, just kind of in general, do you slide a tight end over there to help out if it's if it's third and long just to have an extra blocker over there so you've got an extra body at least accounted for about, I mean, there's also, you know, even though that's that's the backside, you know, again, Emil Wagner is no more experienced over there on the right side either pressure can still come from the right, even though Riley Leonard's facing it. Yeah, I think you're going to have to decide, you know, Notre Dame's probably, I like when Notre Dame comes out an 11 personnel and they split out their, you know, they're tied in. So it looks like, like right now what we're looking at a two by two formation, if you don't get the look that you like, you can just motion, you know, Evans down to attach to the line of scrimmage on either side, depending on where you see the hot pressure coming from. But again, that goes in that favors into this defense because it can look like they're coming in one direction and they can, you know, kind of bluff and bring pressure from a completely different direction. So this is something I would look for on on Saturday of Notre Dame gets into some third and longs, you will definitely see this defensive front out of Texas A&M. All right. Really good stuff on the bonus whiteboard. Love it. I would love to see a quarterback draw against that thing though, just a third and long, just nice QB draw right through the middle of people come. Some people have mentioned it in the chat. I completely agree. That's, that would be a huge way to kind of counteract this formation. And that, you know, and again, I think it's part of the chess match when you talk about how, you know, Mike Elko's familiarity, Riley Leonard's familiarity, all those different things. It's just part of the chess match, I think, that you have in there, you know, who's countering who, who's, you know, making, you know, who's, who's like punching, who's counter punching and all that. Different stuff. It's going to be, it's going to be part of the fun of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup, you know, it's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup. It's going to be part of the matchup.
