is also the host of the Brett Boone podcast featuring the most notable names and MLB and around sports every week and Brett thank you as always for joining us let's start with Corbin Burns he's had an awful August last night an opportunity for an ace to step up yeah he was hurt by his defense a little bit but some of this is self-inflicted is this just a bad month are you concerned about Corbin Burns I'm not concerned about he guys you know he's been he's been a horse and he's been a saw young annual saw young candidate for for years now this is just something you go through it's baseball and it's you know if you look at the great ones they're always gonna have a a glitch I mean sometimes start to finish you know someone comes to mind as a sale that's kind of rejuvenated his career and with Atlanta Braves is gonna private a saw you award winner some some seasons start to finish and they're very rare it just it seems like you don't miss a beat the rest of the season this is baseball and that's the dog days it's gonna be tough Baltimore they've been fighting with it with the Yankees at the top of that division all year it's a long year but I think Corbin Burns when we get close to that playoffs at the end of next month he's gonna be fine he's gonna be ready to go and I'll take Corbin Burns all day long at the top of my rotation Brett he recently did a interview with the athletic talking about his upcoming free agency about doing a bunch of research on other teams farm systems and rosters did that article or any of those comments bother you at all in the midst of a pennant race yeah I think I think you really you know we all have thoughts and we all deal with free agency and and the next year we all deal with it our own way I don't know if I'd ever gone out and researched other organizations especially why I'm playing the one thing I always tried to do was I keep my personal business and I keep baseball in the clubhouse I never talk about anything outside of my franchise I think when you sign with a team when a team sign in the back your check with the front of your checks I'm sorry you always represent them in the best way possible and it's which means this is my team now what I'm doing now not about next year obviously when you're that coveted of a free agent there's gonna be the reporters coming you on a daily basis about next year I think you know and it's not as exciting to just divert and say hey let's finish this year let's win the way we want to let's get to the postseason let's try to win a World Series and we'll deal with with next year next year we'll deal with free agency I think that's the best way you you approach it because things can be missed misconstrued you know I always take a beat when I hear something come out was it taken out of context did I see him say it with my own eyes because as a teammate you want to keep that stuff as far far away as possible you got to have kind of blinders on and it's this year Baltimore Orioles what are we going to do to give ourselves the best chance to get to the World Series and not only that win a World Series everything else is secondary everything else is really as a member of that team it's not for public consumption a man brother a man this al-central race is becoming pretty interesting obviously yesterday's game of these royals yeah I thought they were gonna sweep the Guardians up until Bobby Wig dropped the ball and things started going the other way for Cleveland to finally salvage something there and I think it's easy to sleep on Minnesota and they deal with their share of injuries but they've also they look like they were dead in the middle of May how do you handicap this one I I first of all to start the season if you'd have told me beavers out for the Cleveland Indians and Williams is gonna start on the IO and they were gonna just run away and and play the way they played all year I'd say you're crazy I don't know where that came from they found a way they play the Cleveland Indians they have kind of a culture going on there where they they like each other and they like playing baseball you could tell they have fun they have a great camaraderie and obviously they've got some talent to go along with it but that was a shock to me Minnesota's twins being in the hunt and being there in the wild cart that's not a shock to me at all I saw that in the postseason a year ago but the Kansas City Royals you know it was a good story the Bobby Wits Alvador Perez it's a great story early was feel good it's Kansas City hey they're starting to win some games but the push they've made recently to push themselves into a wild card spot that blew me away too so this game is as much as you think you know you know I could I could go further two months ago the Seattle Mariners have a 10-game lead yeah and I'm with that starting rotation be still the best rotation in baseball and I thought oh for the first time in a long time Seattle is gonna kind of handily win that division well we're sitting here today and there three out Houston's taken over again so as much as I think I know I don't know anything because I'm continually checked when I think what I look at on paper what I look at players and numbers I can I can forecast what's gonna happen this game continues to show me that you just never know but the city coming out of nowhere man they're starting to show that they're for real talking to Odyssey MLB insider Brett Boone it's inside access here on the fan it speaking of things we don't think anybody saw coming the Milwaukee Brewers they traded Corbin Burns in the off-season they got lost Woodruff and lost Woodruff like Dave had their most of the year and yet definitely just came back and here they are nine games up in their division unbelievable no why is it is it just something year after year they get rid of council council goes to the Cubs and I always say you know managers are great there's great managers but there's only so much you can do you got to have the horses and once that once that national anthem's over managers have little to nothing to do with the outcome of the game it's it's the player so when council left and they made a big deal about it whatever they're doing in Milwaukee they've created kind of like a thing something they've created in Tampa Bay it's like when you show up for spring training new players come new players go you show up for spring training you walk through those those clubhouse doors it's kind of like okay we win here we usually go to the postseason haven't won a World Series in a long long time but this is what do we expect when you come to camp there's only certain organizations I think would be obvious you know the Yankees well they're gonna they're gonna make sure because that's the way the way it is in New York that you're in and you're out they the fan base demands that you go for it on a yearly basis recently we've seen the Dodgers Atlanta's built an unbelievable culture but those smaller market teams the Tampa Bay's really come to my Oakland A's in the early 2000s there's just something about putting that uni on that no we don't we're not we're not hoping to make it we're going to the postseason it's just how far we're gonna go in the postseason I think they've done a great job and it's been fun to watch Brett Boone always great thank you so much for your time we appreciate it you guys thank you thank you that was all to see MLB insider Brett Boone insider calls presented by Granger with supplies and
