OK, what a terrific weekend we have ahead Saturday. SEC on ABC. We got LSU taken on South Carolina. We got A&M taken on Florida. And then we got Georgia and Kentucky in prime time. The SEC is here on ABC, all season long. All right, Rex, we did it yesterday for You Got Moss. It's Christian Fitzpatrick playing for Marshall, which is Randy's on the line. Are we looking for Randy? Yes, it is. Is that Randy? I think it is Randy Moss. There it is. Randy Moss fits Patrick in somebody. Look, you got Moss, my friend. What a catch right there. How about that catch? Yeah, I mean, the interception that we saw last week, which was a one-handed and that one, that's ridiculous, dude. Is it the gloves? No, it's the kinetic count. The gloves probably help a little bit. Don't hurt. Yeah, they don't. No. The outlawed stick. Did he do the same? Wow. CD Lam, isn't that the CD Lambda? I have no way. I don't know what we did, one way or another. That's a baseball glove. Ooh, the baseball glove. Exactly the place of the week. A little hand, people. Let me see. You can't-- No, that's not doing that, that's not. The second that got near me, I said, this is not going to end well. We welcome back to Get Up or Live on the Seaport. We're brought to you by Patron. Perfection starts with Patron Wild First Sunday in a million ways of this NFL season. Let's start in Cleveland, all the eyeballs and all the dollars on Doc Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys before the game. $240 billion contract extension. Good for him. Good for Doc, so he got his money. CD got his money. And then they hooked up earlier this one, Dan. That's a beautiful throw, one-on-one. The quick fade to the right sideline. It's really high-hand coverage by Genzo Ward. It's just a perfect throw from Doc to CD. And then down in the red zone, Cleveland's going to all-out pressure. Watch how early Doc throws this football ball out now. Me, three or four steps before bringing hooks is even looking for a beautiful throwing cap. Doc, you're open. A buck 79 in the passing game for Doc. Meanwhile, the best player on the field yesterday, Rex, was Michael Parson. Yeah, you think? I don't know. We had eight quarterback hits. Eight? What do you play a season against Cleveland? Oh, my goodness. That didn't have much plan for him. Meanwhile, here's Zico in the other way. That's his first touchdown since coming back to Dallas. Cowboys up 14-3 in any thoughts the Browns might have had of getting back in this game ended quickly here in the third quarter on this play. Untouched, 60 yards. I mean, the special teams unit for Dallas sets it up perfectly. Turpin gets onto the right side. Everybody's a convoy out front. And this, like you said, green, wraps the football game. John Fossil, the best special team coach in a league. Fourth quarter, Browns desperation time. I'm not sure if this one's his fault or not, but to Sean Watson at a bad day. Yeah, it looks like Elijah Moore is expecting that corner to drive Trayvon Diggs. Great to see him get that pick coming off of the ACL as well. Miscommunication on both parties. Cowboys win 33-17. It wasn't that close. Dak. I'm right now. It's about celebrating this winter night. Hell of a win with these guys. Excited for this plane ride back with them, but turning the page tomorrow, getting on to the Saints, and taking it one game at a time. But that's what is at the forefront of my mind. I'm not the money. It's about holding up my end of the deal, and that's winning. And I want to do it here. What it means is a big commitment to the next five years, to our future, if you will. There's a lot of me that thinks I'd hope Dak is our quarterback for the rest of my time. You tapped me on the shoulder while Dak was talking. Yeah, I was just saying, when Dak was saying that, he was like, and I got to get to the bank, dude, because I put that check in there. Say what you want, Dak. We all know we don't blame you, my friend, and well-deserved. He got one more million dollars guaranteed than to Sean Watson has in his deal. So Dak Prescott is now officially the richest football player that ever lived. We will talk plenty about him and the Cowboys, as this hour continues and in a moment here. But the reality is that was not the story of this game. Cleveland comes into the season with high expectations. They have what we all think is a championship caliber defense. They have the second most expensive quarterback in pro football history, and they have a problem on their hands. Unquestionably, and if I were Kevin Stavinsky, I would be thinking long and hard about going to James Winston. And I think there's a crisis in Cleveland after one week, OK? Kevin Stavinsky's offense, ski-wise, comes from Kyle Shanahan and Gary Kubiak, which is the under center play action pass game, the outside zone, that's how they create their explosive plays. They can't run it and won't run it with the Sean Watson. And I don't know the exact reason why, but if you watch the game, it's shotgun, it's catch and throw. And the problem is, there's Sean for some reason, his hesitant got into football and just egregious misses. He's got to climb the pocket of Mario Cooper's in the middle of the field there. It's throw to 10, it's two, man. Throw the ball, he's open. You have to make that throw. You are talented enough to make that throw. He's got Elijah Moore on an in-route right here. He's going to be wide open in the middle of the field. The pocket is plenty clean. To me, this looks like a guy guiding the football, trying to run the completion to him, rather than just cutting it loose. He's going to have a slant. They're going to-- cowboys are going to blitz off that slot, puts it on the Mario Cooper. It's a catch and run, and it might be 15, 20 yards. He misses that by yard behind him. This one, back's going to go to the flat, to the bottom of the screen. He's wide open for some reason. DeShawn's working the top, one-on-one. It's a long foul ball, six or seven yards out of bounds. That happened like three times yesterday when the ball's six or seven yards away from the receiver. So I think there's a crisis because it tells me Cleveland knows it can't run the scheme that it truly at heart and its heart wants to. And even when they do do it, they can't execute it. So I mean, we have a real problem here. They looked better with every other quarterback that they played last year. They made the playoffs last year with four different quarterbacks. The last of them was Joe Flacco. They looked better, basically, with all of them than they do with DeShawn Watson, who still has 140 million-- $138 million left on his contract. So Dee Wood, what do we do? What are you seeing in that Cleveland offense? Grinnett, I'll say this. The whole problem is you can't fool the players. You cannot fool the players in the locker room. Those guys have seen Joe Flacco and other guys come in and execute at a higher level in the exact same system. So you know what those guys in the locker room are saying? You know the guy from the defensive side of saying? Are you guys going to throw something to bust because this guy's contract? But what about us? We're sitting here busting on tail every day, whether it's meetings, practice, preparation, getting ready. And then DeShawn Watson is going out there and throwing that out there. What about the rest of the team? You have an obligation. If you're the Cleveland Browns coach, you've got to answer for the rest of the team. Damn the contract. What about everybody else in the locker room? Rex, yeah, but I got to say this because it's interesting. And I totally agree with that. I understand where it's coming from. However, this ain't that system. That never looked like-- But that's the problem. Yeah, but that's DeShawn Watson's fault that all of a sudden they're not running that system. Last time we saw DeShawn Watson play in that system that we saw all those other guys had success in, he completed 13 passes in a row against Baltimore, leading his team to a victory with a dang bad shoulder. So to me, they decided, hey, look, we're going to go all in on Ken Dorsey offensive system. That did not look like a Kevin Stapant. At all, here's my thing, Rex. Even in moments when they do run it, because there were a couple moments where they would get into 12 personnel, one back, two tight ends, and they go play action, it still doesn't work. The play fakes aren't succinct. He's thrown into double coverage down the field. That's where I sit there and I go crisis because there are moments when they try to run it and it's not executed well. Then there's moments when they try to do this spread out, catch and throw, whatever. No one in their offense is built to run that. You think Wyatt, teller, who's the best right guard in football, or certainly one of them wants to just sit there and go, pass, protect the whole game, but they're handcuffing everybody else. And then also, I'm not naive to reality of like, the offensive line didn't play well yesterday, okay? Like, they're, Sean certainly was under duress. I do think it was attached to the scheme, but there's no plus plays either. There's no where you go, oh, there's that magic from Houston. And I feel like everyone's still holding on to that. Well, it's a very long time ago, but the reason you hold on to it is because of the things I can put on the screen. You're Cindy, put up A12 if you would be so kind. This is what the Sean walks in under the other one, if you would please, A12 this time. That's the first number we can tell you. Almost half their plays went for zero yards or worse. But this is what they gave up for him. So, D-wood, to your point, you're gonna go a long way to try and justify this. They traded away five draft picks, including three number ones. They gave him five years, 230 million fully guaranteed, the first of its kind ever. His cap hits, and then each of the next two years, are projected to be over $70 million. So, the answer to your question, D-wood, is yes. We're going to fix him, or we're going to die trying, because we don't have any option. Well, you're gonna die trying. Then everyone's gonna get fired, because that the Sean walks in there. We saw out there yesterday against the Dallas Cup, and listen, Dallas Cup was having good defense. They're not the 85 Bears, though. Right. Like, that guy right there, that look, holding up is gonna get your whole regime fired. And this is going to be everybody fired. And we got to also acknowledge the fact that Cleveland is playing with two backup tackles, right? Okay, so, and again, Dallas can make you look bad. There's no question about it. They're so skillful, man, that Michael Parsons, you haven't seen him since a Lawrence Taylor, all right? So, to me, I mean, I get it to do a little bit. You're not gonna give up under Sean Watson right now. I'm just telling you, okay? They're not. They're absolutely one of them. I think they're in a conversation. Listen, I understand the contract, but I'm telling you, those guys in the locker room, like, how much longer can they really go if the quarterback is stinking up the joint? A hell of a lot longer in week one. I'm gonna try and get to the bottom of one thing here, because if there's one thing I'm gauging from this conversation, particularly Dan between you and Rex, you're talking about the player, and he's talking about the scheme. So, is the answer to this, if there is a solution to this, is it in the scheme? Is it in changing what they are doing to make it better suit what to Sean Watson's skill set is? I think they're trying to do that. And it's not working. And I don't think it's working for DeShawn. I don't think it works for their skill players. I don't think it works for their offensive line. And candidly, I don't think it works for Kevin Stafansky. Do you know how hard it is to go as a coach, and you've been groomed and brought up in this type of system, and you've developed the play-calling skill in that system, and now you're trying to call plays in a completely different system? That's a totally different world. And we're also holding on to that the player and the athlete is still that same cat. Let me ask you a question. Is Ken Dorsen calling the plays? I don't. I have no idea. I think my question is, if Ken Dorsen is calling the plays, how long before Kevin Stafansky is like, okay, enough is enough. I'm taking play-calling back, and I'm going to run the system, and I want to run. All I know is, in Cleveland, I've seen Joe Flacko light it up. I've seen Baker light it up. I've seen other quarterbacks be serviceable. In that Kevin Stafansky system, not what we saw. All right, I want to get into the perlatives quickly here, 'cause I promised you were going to get every game today. Sunday's the perlatives. Rex Ryan, what was the most impressive thing you saw yesterday? Josh Allen, not even close. Josh Allen is the baddest man on the planet. I've said it from jump, my favorite player in the league. The best player in the league. He needs to stop the player. He needs to stop doing this. Oh, that's 'cause he's a player. He scores in red zone. That's player? 50 best player. I'm putting my defense to be a provol flying backer. I love this kid. Look at him dropping dimes all over the place, going to back. Everyone tells me he's overrated, Rex. Boy, overrated. Who the hell is taking these holes? Four total touchdowns. D what biggest surprise has to be the Patriots. Going the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, man. Listen, that Patriots defense is pretty damn good. Like, they're going to cause a lot of teams, a lot of problems. They were efficient. They ran the ball with Monday Stevenson. And Jacobi was just efficient. Didn't have to do anything. Just don't mess it up. Cincinnati, a bad loss. Very impressive. Hands the city next week. Dan, what was your favorite moment of yesterday? Watching a human being throw about 70 yards while he's falling down. I mean, this is unreal. You know what's crazing me? How long the ball is out of the screen? I mean, that ball is an absolute hand cannon. And it's a dime. Watch how long the ball is out from the top of your television screen here. It's out now. Still. Still. Still, that's probably the sixth category. You guys remember the Michael Vick Powering versus he's back in the day? Yeah. It looks like that. To be clear, it says 60 yard touchdown, because that's where the line of scrimmage was. Doesn't the ball go like-- Yes. Oh, absolutely. He throws it from the 31. And where does he catch it on the 2? So yeah, that is very close to 70 yards from Anthony Richardson. As we continue here, we'll have more from an NFL Sunday. A Steelers statement. They have sole possession of first place after a wild one in Atlanta. And did they find their quarterback along the way? Plus, we get more into the bears here. Speaking of young quarterback, they found a way. Wasn't a masterpiece of the midway? What did they get from Kayla Williams? What did it mean? We'll answer those questions and more. All around the league on a Monday, get up on ESPN. Looking in part ways with complicated, expensive, and uncertain shipping? Jared Goff and the Lions, hosting the Rams, Matthew Stafford, back in Detroit. Rematch of the playoffs last year. Lions up 10-3. How good is Jamison, will you? Yeah, big time. I'd love to play call third and three a little bit and double move. Jared Goff stopped the time. And a big touchdown for the young superstar. He's got five catchers, 121 yards. Meanwhile, no one had a bigger day in the NFL yesterday than Cooper come. I mean, the throwing catcher just watched the feet by Cooper on the sideline and then tracking the ball, easily getting two down. The wrecks like the tote work there. Yes, outstanding pose. Stafford then finds cup for the touchdown. Again, 14 catchers, 110 yards for cup. Rams up three. Now, two minutes left in the fourth. Lions looking to go ahead. Sam Laporta going to make the play, plus they're going to get the yardage tacked on for the hit. Yeah, kind of a quiet game for Laporta, but he makes a big, tough catch over the middle of the field and then they get kitchens with the shots of the helmet, automatic game field going around. And then Amun Ross saves the game. Big play, he slips and watches right hand come in and back this ball down, because if it doesn't, that's going to be a pick and end the football game. Instead, they go to overtime. The Lions get it and they run eight plays. Seven of them are running plays. Rhett, they just jamming it down there. Round it down, baby. Put the big boys out there and let the big man eat. And that's what the Lions did. The offensive lineman and you love seeing this. I love when you just deflacing them. Watch the enemy, why do we just pull you? Look at that, look at that, look at that. Let's go. All right. I made the launch on Rhett. My germany, 91 yards, and that touchdown that ends it. Again, the Lions take a 26-27 of their eight plays and overtime were runs. They may not be the flashyest team. That's bad, it's a tackle in the league. But since Dan Campbell took over in 2021, Detroit has six wins when trailing by at least a field goal with under five minutes remaining in regulation that's tied for the most in the entire league. That's totally greeny. If the Lions get that version of what we saw last night from Jameson Williams, they're going New Orleans. They're the best team in the NFC. To be clear, that's where the Super Bowl is this year. They get that version of him consistently, they'll go to Super Bowl. They're a team built in your image, right? Like they want to build it. No one loves anything like you love it. No, absolutely. And Campbell, they built it in his, I mean, that's who he is. He's the baddest dude in the league. He'll whip any coaches ass in two seconds, all right? His team is tougher in your team. And by the way, when you're two best players, almost were non-existent. You mentioned Sam before to only have a couple of catches in a monitor of St. Brown, OK? And you still find a way to kick ass on offense. And by the way, the kids they added defensively, the secondary is going to be a hell of a lot better than they were. Aaron Glenn's got a little something to work with. I think this team's going. Are they the best team in the NFC D would? I think so, man. Listen, I love to play call it. They've got the best office aligned in the league. They've got a bunch of weapons on offense that defenses, particularly the secondary, much improved. Yeah, if I had to pick right now, I got the line. I took the line to go to Serbo too. Think about it like this. The last two times we saw those two teams play Stafford, thrown for like 700 yards and lost both of them. He was remarkable last night again. No, he was crazy. Crazy good. And that offense, like to me, Cooper couple, my god, he's back. Who kind of cool got hurt in that game also? Well, wait, you see how bad that is? It could be a difference. Both those teams are going to be there for the majority of the season. Yeah. And how the hell are they functioning like that? Because he has Stafford. He got Sean McBae. They're going to be there, too. Those are veteran quarterbacks. Let's talk about rookie quarterbacks, Dan. QB quick leads on the rookies yesterday. Jayden Daniels, Washington debut. What did you see? Yeah, I saw him get the ball out of his hands quickly, not a ton down field, and really started to settle in when he used his legs a little bit more, made some big plays with his feet. Again, the ball was coming out super quick, and I love the fact that he didn't put it in a harm's way. A ton, he was very smart with it. Washington's got to feel great about the start that Jayden had. I thought he looked very good in the second half. I mean, he looked absolutely terrific. The only thing I worry about him is so much running in things when he's a slender build guy. Now, that's smart. Dive at the legs, that's smart. Do not slide, dive at the legs. We'll protect you more than sliding, though. OK, if that's the case, because the slide is uncomfortable. He does not do that well. Dan, rookie quarterbacks. Bo Nick's Denver in Seattle, what did you see? Yeah, somewhat similar. The ball wasn't going to get thrown down field much, and then when they got into a situation where they had to, a couple picks. I thought that there was a lack of efficiency on their offense, not as much play-action pass as I thought I would see. And the short stuff he was fine with, but once he had to or was dared to push the ball downfield to try to make some big chunk completions, that's when you saw him get a little loose with it, and Seattle's defense started to hunt. He only played six years of college. Yeah, he won the most games of any college quarterback in NCAA history. And they had two safeties and lost this game against a good Seattle team. Why'd you see it for Nick? Yeah, listen, that was going to be a tall, tall chore of going up to Seattle. Mike McDonald, you know, former ball to Baltimore Ravens, defense coordinator. That was going to be a tall, tall test for any rookie to be successful in this place. I know, but you got, I mean, Sean Payton over there's an offensive guru, man. I don't even have an answer against that Raven type defense, but really, the rookie coach made a statement. He made a statement. Like Dan played for years in peak-year-old defense the last five years, weren't worth a darn. Well, they showed up big time in this game. And I think they got some talent there. They got one. And this young kid's going to do a nice job. I think Seattle's going to be good. They're going to be good. It's going to be really. I've had a great touchdown run. Finally, Dan, let's go to the very top. Kayla Williams, number one pick, why did we see him? Yeah, I saw a young man overwhelmed with a lot of things. I thought he was overwhelmed with trying to see the same things as receivers. I came now and there's a couple opportunities where he can get completions. And he's thrown it to one spot in the receivers. Going to another spot, I saw some misses down the field that I would expect him to make as he settles in. Moments where you could say he's thinking so much of what his drop is supposed to be and what's going on with the coverage after the snap happens. That's the big difference. You know, the reality of pre-season and being relatively vanilla and then you get to the regular season and you look as a quarterback going, what the heck am I looking at? So, just overwhelmed in his first start against a good Tennessee front. Yeah, I mean, hey, welcome to the men's league. You know, this kid right here, they say he's a generational talent and he may very well be. But I knew it was going to be ugly to start with. I mean, I really did. It's a young guy and he, when you're a mobile guy, you make a lot of plays in college, getting outside the pocket and doing all that type of stuff. Yeah, that's great. That's part of your game. Can't be all of your game because these dudes are fast and they will track your butt down in this league. I mean, there's a difference between the pre-season and the regular season. Yes, amen. They have fewer than 150 yards of total offense, but still won the game on a pick six and a block punt and won really, really bad decision by Will Levis. So, the Bears want to look, they get the win. At the end of the day, it's nice that you win the game, regardless. Yeah, I think the biggest thing is, how much can he take from week one to week two just to comfort in the pocket? There was a couple moments yesterday where you saw the rush coming in his immediate reaction is to put his foot in the ground, take his head down and no longer see the field. And that's going to be the concern. I think some of the misses that he has in specific to Keenan Allen, Keenan's got unbelievable field and that's what he's going to have to get on the same page with, the same with Romo Dunezay. That's going to be the big thing is, can he settle into the pocket and not overthink? Real quick, be in the point guard. Bro, that's why Ryan Post barred in all those guys. Right. So, you can be a, you'll have your opportunity to do the spectacular, but be the point guard in these situations. He will face CJ Stroud in the Texans stand alone game, Sunday night football this coming week. So, they'll have the spotlight on him there. Coming up. You got the Steelers? They're the only team in that division to win yesterday. Should Mike Tomlin stick with Justin Fields, as their quarterback, we'll talk about it. Plus, the Giants, most certainly, should not stick with these uniforms. That's for sure. Should they stick with their quarterback? What a mess. They were he has got. They were wearing red, but they were certainly blue and will explain why next. It's get up on ESPN. Maybe the most interesting storyline leading into the games, at least of the normal football variety, involved Ratsu Wilson, an inactive with a calf. That's announced about two hours before a kickoff, so it's Ratsu Wilson not in Justin Fields going up against Kirk Cousins. Cousins debuted and was a disaster for Atlanta. - Absolutely, the Drake London stops on what looks to be like this rapper in route. Kirk forces it either way, it can't happen between those two guys. - Meanwhile Fields had some really nice moments. This is right at the end of the head. - Three, so that's from the 32-33 yard across the field to the 37, so we're in 45 yards or so on a half-road big-time ball. The Steelers down 10-9 at the half on three field goals. Then it's Kirk Cousins, Dan. What is this throw? - Yeah, of course, internal pressure, he never moved off that spot and he floats that ball. That's an easy interception for Pittsburgh's defense. - The Pittsburgh gets it third and five. Justin Fields, he ran it. He had 14 carries for 57 yards in this game, and you like the toughness on this run. - I also like the quarterbacking that we saw from Justin Fields yesterday. Just managed that game to find a way to win, and then that effort, that looks like to me as a guy that says, "I have my opportunity, I'm not giving it back." - And then the Steelers have Mariano Rivera to close the game for them. That's T.J. Why? - Might have been the best player in the league. - 18-10 Steelers get the win. Fields, the win, 17 of 23, 156 yards. Here he was after the game. - I just came in wanting a win, and I'm glad that we're leaving here with the win, so in terms of who's starting, who's not, all I want to do is win at the end of the day. - Justin's performance today, in fact Russell status, he's keeping one at the start. - And you can come ask me that question on Tuesday. - So they can ask Coach T that question tomorrow. I don't have to wait until then. I'm gonna ask it to you, and let's go directly to it, 'cause I know you have some tape on it. Justin Fields, you're gonna say six field goals, or maybe not spectacular. He had some really good moments in that game. - Yes, throwing the ball downfield to George Pickens, a big deal. I would have Justin Fields be my start. I think they can contend in the division with Justin Fields as the starter, as long as he throws the ball to George Pickens like this, the timing of his feet is perfect on this big out route versus tight man coverage. He puts it right on Pickens' face mask, that's beautifully. The big deep cross right before the half, a half roll, think of the creative stuff that you can do. This ball's probably 45 yards in the air, it probably goes 15 feet off the ground, it's just an absolute BB to George Pickens. One of my favorite throws of the weekend, sees those safeties kind of low. He's got Pickens on a go route, AJ Torel the corner was outside, instead of throwing them outside, kind of bleeds him inside to allow him to go make a play. I thought he threw the ball really well downfield and it could only add to some explosive parts of their offense, he'd be my starter. - What do you think he would? - No, I would absolutely stick with Justin Fields because like Dan talked about, I thought he made some terrific throws, but the way he managed the game. - Yeah. - You know, so much of the national football league is about playing complimentary football, that defense, Pittsburgh's defense was playing the blights out. You don't have to put your team in harm's way. It's the way he just threw the football, uses legs when necessary. You can win a lot of, Rex, you can be there. You can win a lot of games this league by playing that type of football. So for me, I would stick with Justin Fields because it's more, like from a game playing perspective, you give defense coordinators more things to think about. - Yeah, I think this is a great scenario for Pittsburgh, all right? When they made the trade for Justin Fields, I was like, that's the best trade of the year by far. - Six round pick. - Six round pick for this guy whose athletics, you know, athletic ability is second to almost nobody, all right? And so to me, I think he's an absolute freak. And yes, he's in the developmental stage. He's a better athlete than he gets quarterback right now. Right now, what's gonna happen if he becomes a better quarterback than athlete? Like, so to me, it's a great scenario. You have a Hall of Future Hall of Famer, getting well, yeah, he's got a cat, all right? So you put the young kid in, let him write it out. And then, if you need Russell Wilson, you have a Hall of Famer behind him. - Let me make clear what you're saying. You're saying, let the kid keep shooting until he misses one, and then you go to Russell Wilson. - Yes. - If you feel like you have to, because they play Denver this week. - Right. - I mean, I'm not inside Russell said, but I have to believe that's a game he really wants to play. Again, show on point and everything with everything that happened there and the way they handled his contract and all of that. So if Russell Wilson, the doctors say to you, he's good, he looks good enough, he's moving around in practice, who starts this Sunday? - Yeah, but there's no way in hell. I'm going with Justin Fields. - Stay with Fields. - I'm staying with Fields, but I'm gonna say this. Russell, look, he's got a cat. - Right. - Greenie, no way he's ready to play. And when we, what we were watching in the pre-game, more, he's not ready to play. He's not close to playing, in my opinion. So I'm not gonna put out damage goods. As bad as he wants to play, I'm not gonna put out damage goods. It's not fair to Russell Wilson. Letting be 100%, that's why I think it was brilliant. Picking up Justin Fields, now he's in there. If he keeps going, he'll never see the field. Russell will never see the field. That's a great thing for Pittsburgh. But if he does struggle, there's some times when he shows, Russell is 100%, now you got a Hall of Fame quarterback stepping in. - Deep down, don't believe this team can contend in the division with Russell Wilson. I just don't, I think they can with Justin. 200 yards of offense, I think Atlanta's defense is pretty darn good. Valued the football, made some big plays when they mattered. The only thing I need to see from this offense if Justin's gonna be the guys, where do the easy completions and efficient completions come from? I don't think Justin can operate a quick game, efficient pass game, he's just not there. But I do think that they can find a way with some of the RPO elements and the keeper elements to do that. There's still some opportunities, like that ball should go up top, he's got a defensive end, covering the slot receiver, you're gonna have another example of a defensive end, a ball should go up top, defensive end covering the slot receiver. Now, does she think that ball is late? I think that's the hurdle they have to get over. - For what it's worth, you know what, Baltimore, Cleveland and Cincinnati all have in common? They all lost week one. The Steelers have sole position of first place in the AFC North through one week, they go to Denver next week. Now, speaking of that game, I wanna play a game of bad game or bad sign. And let's start there, and I'm gonna wanna live in this for a minute, stick if we can. Kirk Cousins, well, is that a mad game or a bad sign because he and they looked awful? - That's a bad sign. And the worst part of it is, how many times did he double clutch throws? He's not ready, and he's wondering, where's my receiver gonna be? He double clutched, so many throws. I mean, it was like, this is not Kirk Cousins. Kirk Cousins, the guy that just drops it like boom, it's coming out, that wasn't him. And so many times the protection was awful, but that, I mean, the double clutch is the most saying it concerns me. And he's late on throws, that is a bad sign. - You, I think you pegged it. - He's not healthy. That Achilles is not healthy. When I saw that he spent almost every snap in shotgun or pistol, that was a telltale sign to me because even in the run game under center, you still gotta plan and get back and hand the ball to run back, he can't even do that. The guy is not healthy. - That's a bad sign to me. - Let's explain what that means, 'cause I think there's a lot of fans who, you explained it to me this morning in the meeting, and Dan, I'll give it to you on this thought, that Cousins, basically, is, we think, unable to take the snap and then take that quick turn and execute the handoff and all that. - Yeah, so he's just gotta stand there and fling it, and he was just a dead duck. - Correct, it's the old school statue in the pocket. You know, Kirk has always been the play action past king where they would go shotgun, they would go under center, and when you're under center and driving away from that line of scrimmage to either hand the ball off, or driving away to make a play action fake and getting off of it, he doesn't have that right now, at least it looked like it, and when you live in that pistol and shotgun, a couple things, one, no one actually believes that you're gonna run the football consistently, two, no one actually believes that you're gonna run play action consistently. So guys like Highsmith and TJ Watt, they tee off on exactly where you are, Atlanta, if that's what you're gonna do, that's a big problem. - They're in real trouble. Let me go back to the game here of Bad Game, Bad Sign, 'cause there's two more big ones here, D-Wood, Joe Burrow, and the Bengals, obviously, the Jamar Wilson, excuse me, the Mark of Mark Chase, they hangin' over them, but they lose to the Patriots, Bad Game or Bad Sign? - I'm gonna go Bad Game here, obviously no T Higgins was in this game, Jamar Chase was limited, and let's not forget like the Patriots, a lot of people don't think there's gonna be a good team, but they got a good defense, and they got after Joe Burrow in this game, so, Cincinnati notoriously starts off slow, but I think Joe Burrow, as a season goes on, he's gonna get better. - We'll see, they go to Kansas City this week. And then finally, Dan Orlowski, Daniel Jones, Bad Game or Bad Sign? - I just think this is real life, I just think this is real life for the Giants and Daniel Jones, this is kind of what we've seen for the great majority of his career, we don't have to make things personal, I thought that went over the line, but an unbelievably disappointing start to their season in a season that came in with low expectations at that position. - Listen, let me just put a number up on the screen, okay? Daniel Jones signed a four year $160 million contract extension after 2022. From that point till now, he has thrown more touchdowns to the other team than he has to his own teammates. Now it's not that many games, he missed 11 games last year, but he has thrown more pick sixes than touchdowns. And which one of you guys was it that said? - Yeah, me, I don't think anyone had a worse weekend. - I don't think anyone had a worse weekend than Joe Shane, the general manager of the Giants. - Because. - And probably the Merriff family. Well, Friday night, you watched Saint Juan Barkley, who in many ways let walk out of your building, go for like a buck 40 and three touchdowns and be the difference of the game. And then the guy, in many ways that you chose over him, have that performance in your stadium and get unbelievably outplayed by a guy in Sam Darnold. - Yeah, no, absolutely. And here's the other thing, this is a proud franchise. - A hundred years. So it's gonna be a celebration, man. They brought all the old players in, all that type of stuff. And they just come out and lay an egg, like that is absolutely ridiculous, not acceptable. - I think what you please send the sweaters back to the Montreal Canadiens that you're wearing. I don't think that either. - The throwback uniforms were awful, but frankly, they're performance was way worse. - Yeah, listen, I think the thing that's, as much as we talk about Daniel Jones, Daniel Jones, the thing that was most disappointing, that Giants defense got absolutely shredded by. - But you know what I'm saying? - Oh, I know, Sam, listen, Sam, Sam, listen. - No way it could ever dispute the talent. But now you put the talent with the coaching and the weapons. - Yeah, man. - That's what you get. - I have said this for years. - I do call it magical, what was your experience? - Magical sloppiness. - Magical sloppiness. - I think Sam Darnold, I've said this all off season. I think he can take this team to the playoffs. There's no question about it. Because would make the point Kevin O'Connell system, this offensive line, this skill position players, and they're doing it without hot. - I think Sam Darnold is gonna walk away from this season as one of the giant storylines in career resurrection. - We'll see. - Oh, I doubt it. - They may have played the worst team in the NFL yesterday, so we'll have to wait. - I doubt it, I hear you. - But they'll be great. - Sam was also 10 for 10 at one point. - Look, he looked terrific. They looked awful, let's see where the reality is. In the meantime, as we continue. - Dak and the Cowboys, are they that good? The Sean and the Browns, are they that bad? Much more on the biggest statement in coming up. Meanwhile, we got that helmet, they're out. D-wood is ready to smash them. Jets, Niners, Monday night football, who gets the win? We'll make the picks. And then, speaking of looking for a win, here we go, Rex. You began your career 15 years ago in 2009. Since then, you're one of 17 coaches to coach in at least eight opening season games. Season opener. - Okay. - Of those 17, which one has the best week one record? - The answer is next. - Get hot, get hot, Rex, get hot. Get hot, I mean, I'm just gonna do what I do. - In college football, a solid defensive line protects the end zone. Himbo was still on baby leave. But we got the sneaky Darius question for you today. Here we go. 15 years ago, you became a head coach. Since then, you are one of 17 coaches to appear in at least or to coach at least eight season opening games of those 17. Which one has the best week one record? Well, you know, first up, we only won six of them, I think. But anyway, you're correct. All right, you were six and two. I was sitting back, man. I mean, so the guy's got to be coaching for a long time. So that's going to narrow the list down here. The thing is, it's not too sneaky. They're trying-- this is not my answer, by the way. They're trying to get me to say my time of the day. They are smarter than that dude. Smarter than that dude. Andy Reed. Andy Reed is in the way. [LAUGHTER] Oh, Rex, we may not have himbo. But what have you got? All right, give me the camera. I don't know what I got. Is there something? Yeah, right here. Is it like, I don't know somebody else or two. I don't know you. It's simple, of course I don't feel happy. Come on, don't I? It's the riotous? I don't know you, my friend. By the way, that picture of Andy Reed looks really old. [LAUGHTER] That was just not me years ago. It looks like you're OK. Let's go through Sunday-- Rex just made a statement. Let's go through Sunday statement. Dan, who else made a Sunday statement? Well, the cat that Cleveland shipped out of town, Baker Mayfield was going for a party yesterday. Nope, this is not me. It's a beat. OK. Baker Mayfield, 2430, almost 300 yards, four touchdowns. His connection to Mike Evans hasn't skipped a beat. This football team is going to be a problem offensively with all the weapons that they consistently have. Baker Mayfield, I don't know if there's anybody that I love watching have fun playing quarterback more than I love watching Baker Mayfield be an absolute annoyance on the football field to defense. And to your point, the disaster that Cleveland has become Rex, who made a statement yesterday? Jim Harbaugh, then why? Because he actually stands for some. We're going to ground and pound you, even if we only have one first down in the first half. Keep staying the course, run the football, stand for some. And by the way, they could play defense. Why? Who knew? They actually have a guy named Jesse Minner back there. I coached under his dad. He was kicking, but they threw out a guy at its Division III coach, now they can play defense. And he would-- who is your Sunday statement? Yeah, this team that we don't really talk about that much here on Get Up. Yeah, Alex Campbell, what about that? All the contract, all this, all that. They go out there on the road against this Cleveland Brown team and just totally dismantle this team. Offense, defense, specialty, complete game. So listen, I got to give credit where it's two. I have been as critical of them for the way they've handled things. And to me, to wait until the day of the season, to get this deal done with Dak, completely hamstrung your entire off season. But that's then, and this is now. I thought Mike McCarthy had as good a day yesterday as anybody. You talked about the plan Cleveland didn't have. Yeah, Alex had an offensive plan for dealing with Miles Garrett. Their defense looked different under Mike Zimmer, but good. Special teams dominating makes the big play. Mike McCarthy had a big day yesterday. Yeah, Mike McCarthy's a really good coach. I think the offensive plan and really the starting point of respect. Miles Garrett is an unbelievable player. We're going to have multiple chances to play action, have double teams with two offensive linemen, or multiple bodies tight end-wise. They're going to move the quarterback away from Miles Garrett. So yeah, a very impressive performance by Mike McCarthy and that Dallas football team. Yeah, his entire staff. I mean, John Fossil, a special team coach, I think he's the best in the league. He did a tremendous job. And then Mike Zimmer, all right. Here's the guy-- How different is that defense going to be this year? Mike Zimmer and Dan Quinn. Very different. Yeah, I think so. And they're going to play to his style. And he's not going to leave eight little guys out there and get the ball run down his throat. So I think it's going to be better. And we'll see. He's had a history of having good defenses. So I think the move looks good right now. It could have been better, but it looks good. Yeah, meaning they should have hired you, I understand. True, for a lot. But that was a defense that relied on speed and creating turnovers. This is going to be a defense we expect to be a lot more physical. And yesterday, they certainly were. They did a great job of-- The focus should be, how do we get Micah Parsons to only get one guy to block him? And it ate double them a few times. But he had a lot of one-on-ones. And that's what you got to do. And arguably one of the greatest talented players we've ever seen. So here we are. Dallas Gozing gets a really big win on the road. The Eagles go down to Brazil, get a really big win way on the road so that NFC East has started in fascinating fashion. Meanwhile, there was one game left. And we have a fun way to pick it. Let's do it. Welcome to the most dangerous segment. This is very big man, tiny helmet. [MUSIC PLAYING] Oh! Hit me right in the chin. [MUSIC PLAYING] Drowsianos got a lot of protection. [MUSIC PLAYING] Oh, that hit me. I got hit again. Oh, my. There's no coming back from me. I think that might be my best. All right, here we go. So for those of you who are not used to us on Thursdays, Damian Woody has always made his picks on Thursday. By smashing helmets, he will smash the helmet of the team he thinks is going to lose. Di Wood with us on Mondays now. So he's going to pick the Monday night game. We have the Jets. God help us. At the 49ers, San Francisco, a three and a half point home favorite. I want to bring in some good luck. Get in here, pineapple. That number is coming down. Yeah, I think it has to be moving down. [MUSIC PLAYING] You have to tell me, and God was on. He's in full Aaron Rodgers mode here. So he's going to smash the losing team. And I'm nervous. I go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. Don't be a snooply. Oh! Oh! He sneaks at Jesse in a way. Oh! Talk to me. Why? How did the Jets win this game? And listen, a lot of breeze haul. Breeze haul. Gary Wilson. Gary Wilson. Steve Fitz. Steve Fitz. I'm not putting everything on Aaron Rodgers. I'm going to ease Aaron Rodgers back. We haven't seen Aaron Rodgers playing in quite some time. You got weapons. Lane on them. Let Aaron Rodgers ease this game. God didn't get a big role. Yeah, I have to say this. The only thing that concerns me is the last three openers we saw, obviously, Aaron get hurt last year. But the two previous openers, even in MVP season, he played really poorly, getting trounced by Minnesota and also getting trounced by somebody else. The point is, that's the only thing that concerns you. That's the only thing that concerns me. I have so many other things that concerns me. No, that's the only thing that concerns me. Is this a complete football team? And so I want to make sure that Aaron Rodgers is mid-season. Aaron Rodgers is not open today. Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, I think the Jets are going to be a really good football team this year. I have a tremendous amount of respect for how great San Francisco is. You see how you setting it up? I also thought the Browns would beat the Cowboys. I did too. Boy, are we done. We'll see. Tonight is the 55th season of Monday night football. And it kicks off with an absolutely fascinating game. Jets Niners at 8, ESPN ABC, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Plus. Peyton and Eli on ESPN2 and ESPN Plus. Garbage begins with the Monday night crew at 6. Meanwhile, my seeing green, super-boost parlay is on this game and it's up on ESPN Bet right now. Aaron Rodgers, the over on 175 yards. They won't win if he doesn't. Garrett Wilson, the over on 50 receiving yards. They won't win if he doesn't. Breeze Hall, the over on 50 rushing. That would say they don't win if they don't. There you go. That's my parlay. You got it up right now for you on ESPN Bet. Meanwhile, first take coming up top of the hour. Cowboys, statement, Brown. Should they bench the shot? Molly, Stephen A, Shannon, Dan, and much more.
