You can only control so much in your life. If you try to control too many things, you’re going to be unhappy. Sometimes details don’t matter. You don’t always have to follow the plan. Going with the flow can make things work better than you expected. Focus on the big picture and stop worrying about the little things.

I have published a new book. It's called "The View from the Deck Thoughts on Values, Vision, and Gratitude." If you like morning motivation, you're going to love this book. You can find it on Kindle and in paperback form on Amazon, and the audiobook is coming soon. So check out "The View from the Deck Thoughts on Values, Vision, and Gratitude" on Amazon now. There's a very small number of things you can control in your life. And there's a number of things you will try to control in your life. And the closer the second number is the first number, the happier you're going to be. If you don't control enough of the things you need to control, you're going to be in trouble. But if you try to control too many of them, you're also going to be unhappy. You're going to waste your energy trying to control what needs to be. There's so many times when the details don't actually matter. Yesterday's episode, I started recording with one thought, mine it flowed in a different direction. I was thinking about talking about workflow and scheduling. And it said I went to career path. And by the end of it, I said, "This is also good." It's not what I expected. It's not the plan I had mine, but this is all so good. I don't need to stop and re-record this because it was the wrong thing because it's still a good thing. There are many good outcomes. Don't get married to one particular outcome. You want to think bigger vision, bigger goals. Where do you want to be in 10 years, not where do you want to be next week? If you have the big picture in mind, if you have the grand goals in mind, then you will find all the different avenues that can get you there. If something's blocked, no problem. Just go around. The person you talk to is not available or lost their job or suddenly hates you and won't talk to you anymore, whatever. Because in the bigger picture, this is just one possible way you could have gone and instead you'll just go a different way. Look to the big picture. What is the grand goal? The grand objective? And then don't worry about the little details. Don't worry about if this episode didn't go this way or that interview didn't go that way or you didn't get this one client. Who cares? It doesn't matter. Control the things you need to control and beyond that, just drive in the right direction to the right big picture objective and let the universe direct you where you're meant to go. It knows where you're going. Follow it. I have published a new book called The View from the Deck, Thoughts on Values, Vision, and Gratitude. If you like morning motivation, you're going to love this book. A lot of the same concepts. The basic principle of the book is that I was coaching clients and they were telling me about their dream life and I was recognizing elements of their dream life in my everyday life and it made me realize there's things in my life that people are dreaming of and there's things in my life that the me of a few years ago would absolutely have given his right arm for and chances are you've got the same. So I took these concepts about values and what makes us do what we do. Vision, where we want to be in gratitude, appreciating the awesome things we have and put them together into one awesome book called The View for the Deck, Values, Vision, and Gratitude. You can find it on Amazon.com. Just search for Michael Whitehouse, The View from the Deck, and get your copy today.
