It's definitely a fan of the killer bees. Don't sweat the technique. Now, from a Veritex Community Bank Studios, bringing you the fastest three hours in Houston sports radio. Here's Joel Blank and Jeremy Branham. Ooh, what a breakdown! Hey! How are we doing? He is blank. I am Branham and is BMAC behind the glass, Brian McDonald. And we are, collectively, the killer bees. On ESPN 97-5 and ESPN 92-5, it is a Tuesday. Taco Tuesday? I invented that. A-knowledge me! I was trying to- I was trying to get Brian to fall start. Oh, he didn't bite for me. He was good waiting on the snap count. I predict I will lose my voice at some time before the end of the show. Oh, no. I'm a dog! Pretty sure the voice is going to be toast by the end of this. Well, I'm a Brian Gapping McGamer. Any time the weather thinks about changing, I get a sinus infection. If it thinks about changing, I'm toast. There is a- One time a year. Virus going around. I can hear your voice around. I know. It's going to go today. I'm telling you. Yeah. There's a virus going around that they said is basically all based on your lungs and the congestion. I don't know if I have that. I did. That's what I had a week and a half ago and it's still lingering. But yeah, they said it's going around and it's been going around for a while. I get a sinus infection twice a year. Whenever the weather thinks about changing in the fall, and then when the weather thinks about changing in the spring, automatic sinus infection, no matter what. At least the same way. No matter. It's weird. It's like clockwork. It's like the farmers. What is it called? Aminec? Aminec. It's like the Branum Aminec. I get the sinus infection. The weather is going to change in two weeks. All right. Enough about me. We'll get to the Astros, Astros play baseball again today, off day yesterday. Big start for Spencer Araghetti tonight, like put the bugaboos behind him. We'll get to pro our PFF scores are PFF scores, which are PFF scores are poor football focus. What did the killer bees in our poor football focus say about the Houston Texans and then week one over reactions we have to get to at some point throughout the show as well. But it was it was weird this weekend because after watching that game in Brazil with the Eagles and your Packers started to bring it up. I I felt really salty after that game because one thought that I had in the off season was, you know, Nick, you already have two receivers. You don't need Stefan Diggs. I think the Texans wanted an extra playmaker more than they needed a wide receiver. And I think the playmaker one was Saquon Barkley. And then whenever they missed on Saquon Barkley, it was let's make the trade for Joe mix it and then later make the trade for Stefan Diggs. So after that Friday game, I entered the weekend mad at Nick Casario. I entered the weekend, like a son of a gun. They screwed it up. They got the wrong playmaker. After Sunday's game, I was like, thank you Nick Casario. Well done. You got the right playmakers. Yeah, no. And I think that it was like, I think from that perspective, I can understand it. And Diggs had himself to touch down, he had a good game. But when you parlay that, I think the thought process is enhanced by the fact that, yeah, you might have gotten Saquon Barkley and we didn't, but we actually ended up with two guys that were impactful as hell on Sunday when you, when you bring in the mix and factor. When you see what Joe Nixon was able to do, and I think it's very unrealistic to think he's going to do that weekend week out, but it was encouraging enough to say one, he's got plenty left. It looks like. And two that when intact, their offensive line looks like they can run block to where that's going to be such a huge advantage for this offense that I don't know that just Barkley alone would have had the same kind of impact. No, no, you get a one to punch emphasis on punch. Whenever you have Stefan Diggs in Joe Nixon, or I mean, Saquon Barkley would have been awesome in this offense too. It had been really fun in this offense, but I'm good, but it's just so weird that I went through that like mix of emotions where Saquon Barkley goes nuts, son of a gun, they missed out on the opportunity of Saquon Barkley. Then Sunday comes around and Joe Nixon goes nuts, 30 carries, 159 yards, Stefan Diggs. And I mean, if you, if you eliminate the touchdowns from Stefan Diggs game, Stefan Diggs game was pretty modest, but you can't ignore the two touchdowns. Like that's a big factor. But if you just take the touchdowns at six catches, 33 yards modest, but where was he needed the most to touch down passes, like the slant wide open wide open, which credit Bobby Slowick there, credit CJ shroud, making the right read, easy, easy pitching catch. The second touchdown. What are the Colts doing? What are the Colts doing? But yeah, I like the fact that the Texans got two playmakers instead of one. And then me being a, you know, an emotional wreck going from the Saquon Barkley. Oh no, they missed out to the, yay, Joe Nixon and Stefan Diggs. Now I think that if mixing, look, I don't think 30 carries is sustainable. I think the Texans will be foolish if they're using Joe mixing 30 times to carry the rock every single game. Now this game you kind of had to, because there's a one possession game throughout your leading, you want to chew clock, you want to do things like that. They need to figure out how to limit Joe mixing, like 20 carries, like they need to probably use Damien Pierce seven, eight times instead of three times and then games going to dictate what you're doing in terms of the pass run ratio, things like that. But if the Texans run the ball this well, and I think a big reason they ran it well is because the offensive line played really well. If the Texans play this well running the football, like I think they have a really good chance to lead the league and scoring this year. I think it's a possibility. I think to, to what you were speaking of, I think, look, as much as we were analyzing what we didn't know, because mixing, you know, for the majority of training camp wasn't really practicing. He wasn't doing anything. I think that even the coaching staff, as much as they could say, he was making progress. He's healthy. He's going to be fine. I think they had to figure out who they really had like what did he truly have left in the tank? How was he going to fit in this offense? What was it going to look like with the blocking schemes and his running style and coming out of that, I think they have to be more realistic and saying, look, we know we can run the football, but we know that a lot of really good running backs through the course of a game, offensive play callers will make sure there's a series built into the first half, a minimum of one and one in the second half, probably normally in the third quarter early on, where you give your number one tail back a rest and you let someone else pick up some carries, do a lot of the dirty work so he can recharge the batteries. He's ready for you. And then as the game dictates, if you're in a tight game or you really need your guy, well, you can skip that second one and you can get him more carries or, you know, adjust accordingly. And I think they do have to be smart with an older running back and say, yeah, he was awesome, but we're not going to run him into the ground the first week, four to six weeks of the season. Yeah. Yeah, it'll be very intriguing to see his usage going forward, but at the same time being very, very bullish on the Texans run game and it's, to me, it's bigger than just mix him. Like it's bigger than the Oh Joe Mixon's here, the savior for the Texans rushing attack. If you go back to last year, how many combinations of offensive lineman did they play and like look at the guys that got starts for the Houston Texans last season. You had Jared Patterson was a six round rookie making starts. Kendrick Green, who you picked up basically from the waiver wire. Yes, you did the late round draft swap to trade for him. A guy that you would have been waived. Like he's making a lot of starts for you. You're playing a rookie at a position in juice scrugs, making a lot of starts for you. Titus Howard's playing at a position, making a lot of starts for you. Fant was one of the better ones. Yeah. He made tons of starts for you. The reason that, I mean, the reason that Titus Howard moved to left guard is because Fant was holding his head way above water at right tackle and the Texans were trying to play their best five. Like if they get continuity in the offensive line, certainly not perfect, but you know, you run for this many yards in a game, you're off to a really good start. But if you can get continuity continuity from Laramie Tunsel, who's one of the top five left tackles in football, in my opinion, Kenyon Green, who I thought was fantastic. I watched the all 22 today, Pat on the back knee. There's a little flex that I watched the all 22, Branham watches film, Branham knows ball, Kenyon Green. Fantastic. Like he was really stinking good. Yes, he's a better run blocker than past blocker, but he didn't cost you in the past game. That was the take away that I had because you got to take baby steps somewhere, right? We knew that he really specialized in run blocking at A&M, but where he really struggled since he's been a Houston Tex and has been his past blocking has been brutal. So to me, just seeing the level of improvement that I saw, and like you said, he didn't get his doors blown off and like the last, you know, film we saw from a regular season game last year, or any kind of game was when he was getting absolutely annihilated in past block to where you can look at this now and say, could he get better? Sure. But what he was able to do was so much night and day better than what he's ever done in a Texas uniform and parlay that with what he's done. Run blocking. You're like, okay, this is the kind of left guard we need. Yeah, he was. I thought he was really good. I thought he was really good. I thought juice scrubs at center was really good and juice plays with a little bit of nastiness to like he plays with a little bit of a chip on his shoulder that I like. I like my football players to be a little mean. I like my football players to be a little physical and play with that chip on their shoulder. He does that. I thought Shaq Mason was kind of average and I thought Titus Howard was the worst of the five. I was just asked the right side really struggled. You go back. Yeah, they I wouldn't struggle might be too strong, but right tackle versus left or right side of the line versus left side of the line, left side of the line blew out of the water. And maybe it should because they have Laramie Tunsel, but go look at the big plays in the running game running to the left side. Look how many times they ran to the left side versus ran to the right side. There were two plays where they ran to the right side where they used Kenyan green as a pulling guard as the lead blocker ahead of the running back started left and then the cutback lane was to the right that opened up and that's when they ended up to the right side. So you're right. Maybe struggle was too harsh, but I thought you were there was a significant difference between the left side of the line and the right side of the line. If I was going to be critical, I would start with Titus Howard first and foremost. Yeah. And then I would go to Shaq. I didn't I didn't expect to get into this, but I think there's a chance Titus Howard is not the starter for the Houston Texans and two and a half months. Like by week nine, I think there's a good chance that Blake Fisher is the right tackle. I think there's definitely I think it's pretty I think it's pretty clear cut for next season. But yeah, I don't know that it's going to happen this year. That'll be interesting to watch. I'm not sure that that that happens, but yeah, definitely something to keep an eye on. And I think it's more dependent upon Fisher's progress than it is going to be, you know, what Howard is it? We already know what Howard is. I think it's both. I think it's both. Like if Howard continues to struggle and Fishers and pressing, maybe all of a sudden it turns into a work share and then all of a sudden, if it's a 70 30, you know, snap share, maybe it becomes 50 50, maybe it flips to the other side 70 30, but also I think it's dependent on how the Texans are playing like you're not going to mess with it. If the Texans are six and one, they would need to be struggling and maybe not in terms of losing. Maybe they have to, maybe they're struggling getting protection from the right side. Maybe they're struggling running the football and they're becoming a little bit predictable on which side of the line they're running. I think there's a chance by week nine Blake, you know, I'm not handicapping injuries here. That Blake Fisher could be the right tackle for the Houston Texans. Like they drafted him in the second round for a reason. Like it was that reason because they wanted him to start games this year. We don't think so, but you don't draft guys in the second round for them to be the second string for very long. Right. And I think that that's where we started talking about the big picture, the writing on the wall, the fact no matter what, you know, exorbitant amount of money you spent on Titus Howard to lock him up and have him over there on the right side that the big picture plan was we've got a guy that can cut a whole lot of money off our books that if he can do any prove that he's already as quick as he can get ready, he can be serviceably as good as Titus Howard. We don't need Titus Howard. Yeah. So that that'll be interesting to watch, but even with Titus Howard, like if Titus Howard your weak link, your offensive line's doing pretty good, like your offensive line is in a good spot. And if the tech and look, the Texans are going to have the running attack of 213 yards every single game. But if the other team has to respect their running attack, they're going to be incredibly dangerous. And I think top scoring offense in the NFL is on the table. We already know that the Texans can beat you through the air. I have confidence that the Houston Texans could win a ball game passing the ball 50 times a game. I have no doubt because you have CJ shroud, you have the three receivers you do. You have Dalton Schultz, who is really quiet because just the way the game flowed. You have mixing who can catch the ball out of the backfield. If the Texans had to throw the ball 50 times to win a game, I have full confidence that they could win it before Sunday. If you told me the Texans could run it 40 times in when a game, I wouldn't have believed you. I wouldn't have believed you. But now that they showed they can, yeah, I'm bullish about this Texans offense. I think they could lead the league in scoring. I think they could lead the league in yards. See, here's where I met with that. I believed in Joe mixing. I didn't believe in Joe mixing week one to put that kind of numbers on the board. I still don't believe that he's going to do that consistently. I think he can get you a hundred yards in a game. I think that he can do some things to be a better running back than what you had a year ago. But the fact is you also have to be wise in using him because he isn't right out of college with fresh legs and can endure and bounce back as quick as guys that are coming into the league right now. But on top of that too, and I know Damian Pierce only had three carries, way too small of a sample. He averaged over five yards a carry. He was at five three. Joe mixing was at five three. Like, I think a lot of times when we talk about running attacks, we probably overrate the running back a little bit and underrate the offensive line. I'm not saying that a Damian Pierce would have touched the ball 30 times. He's running for a hundred and fifty nine yards. But of the two elements of like what needs to happen to be a good rushing attack, you're getting nowhere if you don't have a good rushing offensive line. I think that's where the biggest improvement has been, and I know it's only one week, but I think that's where the biggest improvement has been for the Texas rushing attack. Yes. I think mixing's greater than single Terry. I think any conversation of that probably has been washed away. Brian, you were the single, not the throw into the bus, but you were the single, single Terry in truth or between single Terry and mixing after one week. You still filled. No, I apologize. I apologize to Joel twice on Twitter. Did you? Did you? Yeah. I didn't see that. He's got you blocked. Yeah. Me musk. I added you twice on Twitter during the game. Taking the album out. So, so I think that, I mean, I think that was a fine opinion to have in the off season, but you flipped now. But is it because mixing so far in like superior than single Terry or is that the 2024 Texans offensive line that showed up in week one is more superior than the 2023 offensive line. I'll take the ladder. I think the bigger improvement and both are improvements. Don't get it twisted. They're both improvements, but the bigger improvements in the offensive line in my opinion. I don't disagree with what you're saying, but there is, it's one of those things where you just like turn on the film and the eye test will tell you like mixing the explosion he has, which was surprising because I didn't think he had especially age 28. And when you see his year by year yards per carry, it didn't really suggest that he had that sort of explosiveness. But to me, I do maybe put it 60 40 in favor of it being mixing because just, just watching, you know, not that single Terry was slow, but just watching the difference between mixing and single Terry. It was very obvious, one, the explosion that he had just being a better athlete than single Terry and two, he seemed to pick up the run, the run blocking scheme, fit quicker to say like he hits the whole faster than anyone in a Texans uniform. I've seen outside of the name area and foster yet that I think you're on there. The biggest thing for me is aside from anything else, I just think the physicality of a bit of the stronger, bigger guy in mixing is one thing. But what I wasn't prepared for was to your point, Brian, the level in which his past protection really kind of saved CJ multiple times. I mean, even in the one where it was ruled a sack because I wasn't even sure he got touched when he tripped and fell down, Joe mix and absolutely annihilated the guy coming in to create, to create a diversion from CJ getting one on one contact at a very high rate of speed. He had a collision, but he was a second late, but, but yet he was, he was, he still got enough of it. He got set. I mean, he got tripped. He didn't get hit at all. They, they rolled them down. Right. But I, I rewound it a couple of times. I'm not sure there was ever contact made. It looked like he kind of slipped down. I don't know. I thought he was late. I thought he was a huge collision. The late willing blogger. I thought he was a little late. The overall, his, his overall ability to pass protect was better than I ever could have expected. I didn't anticipate that from a guy that's been basically just, to me, it just seemed like a guy that toted the rock, but I didn't think that he was going to be that physical. It's a minuscule argument, but I disagree with you a bit. It's fun. Because I think that he was late and I think there was a lot of areas where the Texans were bringing in Daray because they like him more in pass, bro. Now mix into willing blocker, like that, that I haven't seen him pass pro a lot and he didn't do it a ton in that game. So like maybe I'm drawing conclusions way too soon and I'm not even drawing a conclusion. I'm just, I'm not willing to say he's a good blocker in pass protection yet. Boy, there was a couple. Yeah. Second half where he absolutely not only got in the way and got content, but he actually dumped some guys backwards. So did Daray and they were bringing Daray and I think Daray is a lead at it. He's really good. Yeah. All right. So and again, it's, it's trivial. 7, 1, 3, 7, 8, 0, ESP and HR and P listener line 7, 1, 3, 7, 8, 0, 3, 7, 7, 6, we got a busy show. Here's Joel Blanken, Jeremy Branham, a one five six five look that gray rock. Branham, that rock is dark gray. Come on. What am I missing? What am I missing? What do I should be worried about one of these listeners? I don't know what they mean. I don't know what they mean. I don't know what they mean. I feel like we need like a World War II like code interpreter. Great rock. Great rock? Does that mean the Russians are attacking? No. I have no idea what that means. Some subliminal message there. What was that movie? I don't know. Great rock. Was it the King's speech? No, King's speech is where the King like had trouble talking. I think you're thinking of like it's a windbreaker or something like it had a Benjamin unforgiveness. But they're doing that like they're yeah, they're they're trying to break code from the night. He's to figure out their their what they were sitting like. Remember the name. There's something really good movie. Really good movie. So then we can't remember the title. I'm sad that I can't recommend I can't give you the recommendation because I can't remember the name of the movie. Nine five zero six. I'm still a single Terry guy. Is that wild? How many of those how many of there are you still seven one three seven eight zero three seven seven six? Are you still a single Terry guy? And if so, why? Yeah, I don't understand that. I mean, look, tip of the cap to what single Terry gave you a year ago because he stepped up in a big way when you needed a running game that was that was, you know, serviceable and better. He did his job. But I think that you still don't know what Joe Nixon's going to be over 17 games. But after week one, you got to be pretty damn pleased with the fact that you upgraded at this point. Yeah, I think so. Maybe more than one game. I mean, it's hard to believe people are still the other thing on the other thing on that too is you get the people that are still going to defend single Terry. And the other one that still blows my mind are the people that come out of the woodwork every time to Sean has something happen. And they still want to defend the dude like I just, I don't get it. I feel like there's few and far between now. Oh, no, no, no, no. I think that's a far different scenario, though, as to why they're backing. Yeah. It's just maybe after the first one or maybe when you wanted to give them the benefit out at this point, like they're still coming out of the woodwork and I was driving today and flipping the dials and people were like getting ticked off about the negativity about the shot. I go, what world are you living in? Yeah, it's weird. He's so bad as a quarterback that he might be a better human than quarterback. You stole that. I did. 100% so that. That's a bar stool guy. I was hoping he had. I was hoping he hadn't heard it yet. Yeah. 100%. I stole that from from P.M. I told myself great bit. It is. I told myself when I saw it yesterday, I was going to steal it and I could never work in the show. You did. I was trying to work it in yesterday. Who knows to me? Couple of our textures say the wind talkers and then Brian and another texture say it's the imitation game. I was thinking imitation game. We've been at Cumberbatch. Yeah. That's the one that I was thinking of. Cumberbatch. That's a British name. I've ever heard one. Two seven eight seven Howard gets one more penalty than make them a full back. Come on now. Nine two for Tyler and Conroe Titus Howard is going to be collecting child support from several members of the Colts D line in nine months. That's me, Tyler and Conroe. I know just the place for that. That was, I'm not used to Tyler and Conroe doing that. All right. What do you make of the Texans wide receiver target distribution snap count usage chart blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I think that is exactly what we set everybody up for at the start of the season before we got to game one. And that is it is going to be unbalanced from week to week. It is not going to be to where every one single guy is going to knock your socks offs. And if they do, it's probably going to change from week to week based on the fact that when you watch film and team's game plan for you, they're going to focus a little bit more on the guy that was hot last. Someone else will be the next in line. CJ is great. It's spreading the ball around. I'm not worried about the stats right now. I'm worried about the overall productivity and results. And after week one, you couldn't be happier with the fact that I'm not worried about digs only in 33 yards. Hit two touchdowns. I'm not worried about Nico Collins. If he didn't get a touchdown because of the fact that he got big plays when you needed him. Same thing with tank. I think that's the beauty of this offense as long as they're cool with not stat watching, the offense is going to be so productive week to week that everybody's going to get equal amounts. I think it's going to be spread out pretty good. But I'm not going to worry about whether one guy is wide receiver one or one guy gets better stats than the other. And I hope that they aren't either. Brian, what do you think? So I think this goes back to some conversations that we had in the off season about how they would be used. Not so much. Joel was kind of talking about the kind of the harmony of the room. But I think what we saw in week one is what we're going to see throughout the season. It's kind of what we predicted as far as Nico and Tank were going to be the outside down the field guys where digs was going to be inside, in the slot, run into the short and intermediate routes. And this is kind of a fantasy stat area yard. So this may not, maybe not everyone has heard this. All of our listeners are tuning off the stage. Simple. Like how far did the ball travel in air on targets to you? So Nico and Tank were both over a hundred yards area yards. Stefan digs was at nine. He had like eight targets to the ball travel the total of nine yards. He is someone who is going to be short and intermediate, which, sorry, Dalton showed your roles, basically been taken by Stefan digs, but I think that's what you're going to see. It's going to be Nico and Tank on the outside and run in the more deep routes where Stefan digs is inside and run in short and intermediate and fantasy tip. If you have digs, capitalize now on the two touchdowns and trade them because I think you're going to see a lot of these five or 40 type games from digs where if he doesn't catch a touchdown, you're disappointed. Yeah. I'm curious to see how they counter that though, because everything that you do, you have counters to that. And it would like it was interesting. There was one play where they had digs lined up as a running back. They motion them into the backfield. They were going to wheel around. It would have worked. Yeah, it'd be a time. It never had the time. So I think it's going to switch up a little bit. I think fundamentally that's going to be the case. Now from a snap count perspective, tank tank was the odd man out. He had 50. He had 50 of this. Now the Texans played 79 snaps. Right. It was insane. Tank played 50 snaps, 63% Steph played 61 snaps, 77% and the Nico was at 63 snaps, 80%, which I'm good with. Like I'm good with Tank Dell being the third snap count leader, like he's tiny, like it kind of protects him a little bit. Like I'm all right with that. I mean, Hutchinson had 12 snaps, Woods had 12 snaps as well. So like they used everybody. And then when you look at it from a target share, Nico was at eight, Tank was at seven, but also had two carries and then digs was at six and actually had one carry as well. I thought the usage was fine. I think it's going to fluctuate based on the game. Like this game, you had a lot of 12 personnel because you were running the ball really well to an 13 yards and 40 carries. So you're doing a lot of 12 personnel. You were leading for almost the entire game. So you want to run the ball more when you're leading. If you're trailing, I think you see much different, you know, formations and snap count usage. You're probably looking at much more 11 personnel. So it's going to change week by week, but I think that this is about what we're going to get. Yeah. And I think that no one should be upset by that. Like I said, as long as the individuals and some are different than others in terms of like a guy like digs because he's in a contract here, but I think that overall, he seems very happy. He's just glowing. It seems with the organization and everything that he's been through so far. I think that this is where the offense flourishes because you have so many options. You're not worried about like feeding the beast of a wide receiver one. That's this Justin Jefferson type player. You've got so much talent across the board and based on the game planning and the creativity is slow. You have so many different ways that you can slice and dice up a team. Yeah. Yeah, it's a they have options and like that's like I couldn't have told you that they would have a game where they could run for 200 yards. Now I believe that. So it's like, Oh, okay. Well, this lot, this offense doesn't really have restraints, in my opinion. One five six five, can y'all talk about CJ making the throw from his knees? If that was my homes would have been some that has never been seen, I thought it was a little overrated. Who talked about it? I thought it was an easy throw. I thought it was an easy throw. Like it's incredible presence of mine, incredible football IQ that, Hey, I haven't been touched this place still alive, really good, you know, sense of I still have a receiver right there. But if you're talking about just the throw, that was a pretty simple throw. I think the call of the the texture is on to something though, if that had been my homes, we would have seen that so much from every social media accountant and the announcers in the game did praise CJ shroud for the throw for the poise for all the things you mentioned. But if my homes does that as it has it happens every time he throws the no look pass hell. He had the behind the back pass and like training camp or something everyone freaked out. I think that would have blown up all over like basically every NFL account of my homes had done that probably so probably so. And I think that the greatness of that play was everything before the throw to Brevin was pretty simple. Now the presence of mine, knowing where his receiver is going to be, not losing sight of that, not panicking, not freaking out, you know, the it factor was in play there. The throw itself. I was a little overrated. All right. 713 780 ESP and HR and P listener line. Let's get to our week one hot takes now that week one is behind us. The 2022 pro baseball trophy for the winner that gets it all. That will be on display. The one that was won by a Southeast Texas team. Yeah. That resides in the space city. Yeah. The one that has a lot of flags. Yeah. That trophy. Yeah. That one. That one will be here. So you get a chance to see that one as well. Your hive mates are going to be there. All mine. I say that because you like the hive. How many do I do? The twitchers. The twitchers? Yes. Maybe one. Maybe one. Who? I don't know. I could see Alex from Dre there. I could see them there. Big C. Donna. See him being there. There's another one. No. Astro's lineup is out today, by the way. Still no tucker in right. Altubey in second. Yordan in left. Tucker DHS. Bragman in third. Yiner. First baseman of the future. At first. He fires in center, Chaz and right field. Lefty on the mound. So you get your right handed lineup in there. That's fine. All right. What are your NFL week one hot takes? We already got one from the texture. Stroud ate my homes. That's my hot take. That's not really hot. He ain't my homes. Yeah. It's not really hot. Okay. And not yet. It's not a hot take. Oh, he's fine. That's a very rational take you have there. I mean, my homes is what's maybe second best of all time at this point. I think he's where he sprouts not there after his, what, 15th game of the week. Yeah. Okay. How about our 16th. That's a heater there. That's a heater of a take. Yeah. The first one probably is Joe Burrow ain't Joe Burrow. Yeah. Okay. So you think he will be. I'm worried about this. Len press. Yeah. Well, I mean, he was the one that made everybody realize, look, there's not a quarterback that's had this injury before and had to recover from it. Other guys that playing different positions and they've struggled and he said it might be an issue. Well, the whole bangles team looked like they have issues. And so I don't think it's hot enough to say they're going to be done for the year. But they lost to the damn Patriots. I mean, that is embarrassing and you did have enough of a compliment of guys on the field. Yes. The chase thing probably set him back and he wasn't in full top shape to play and ready to do everything they wanted him to do. But regardless, that's the Patriots. They were supposed to be the worst record in the entire league and Joe Burrow didn't look great. Yeah. I always run off the bangles early in the year and then they go nuts. Like it's kind of their emo to start the year off poorly, but losing losing at home to the Patriots and they have Higgins who's been hurt. Is he hurt? Uh, Jamar Chase Jamar Chase played like he led them in targets, but still like it seems like there's some issues going on in Cincinnati and then Burrows got a limp wrist. I don't trust guy quarterbacks that have limp wrist. I just don't. That's tough. That's tough. They fall down filled with a limp wrist. I think the AOC is way too tough for the bangles to have time to figure this out. That's true. Between Burrows nagging injuries with Jamar Chase trying to going through his spring training kind of like we've seen with Astros with Higgins being out, I mean, the AFC is super deep. I think you, a minimum, you need 10 wins to get in. You might even need 11 like what happened last year, except for the Texans as the visual winners. I don't think the bingles have time to wait three, four weeks to figure this out or to be able to stay in the AFC race. Yeah. Maybe so. Yeah. That could be the case. Uh, my, my hot tank is that Bryce Young is a bust and it's solidified. It's done. I don't need to see any more Bryce Young is a bus, terrible pick and a quarterback draft class that had CJ Stroud, Anthony Richardson for his flaws. I won't mention the other quarterback and then Bryce Young. I mean, he's a bust. He's a bust. I've seen enough. He's a bust. He'll never be good. Yeah. Look, it doesn't look good. It doesn't look like there's anything that you should believe that year two is going to be, you know, somewhat different and maybe greatly different than year one and that's a scary proposition. And whether you want to say the Texans were lucky or not, Texas fans should be thankful. They got the quarterback they got because you talk about the, the vast difference between who young is and who CJ is. Good Lord. It, that is growing by the day in terms of the distance of what CJ looks like. He's going to be during his career and how bad Bryce Young looked. There was a list. There was two or three throws in that game where it was pointed out because I was watching the Texans broadcast on CBS, but you have those game game break-ins and they would show throws where Bryce Young had someone wide open, just completely breaking down, down the field, should have been an easy completion for 30, 40 yards and he just misses him by, he misses him more than Anthony Richardson misses guys. There's no way, yeah, I agree with you Jeremy, there's no way Bryce Young turns into a good NFL quarterback. What you're hunting. Uh, I know the Browns last year made it to the playoffs one 11 games, like six different quarterbacks, including old ass Joe Flacco, then this is not happening again. They're not going to be able to repeat the miracle they did last year. Sean Watson might be, I know we talked about Bryce Young, you didn't want to mention Will love us. There's an army at the Sean Watson, so worse quarterback than either, either one of those guys. I mean, not Bryce Young, Bryce Young's the worst in the league, but I don't think the Browns have enough talent to be able to overcome how horrible that quarterback to Sean Watson is. They're not repeating last year's miracle. They are not a playoff team. Have some empathy. Is dad died? No empathy. No empathy. He still has nothing to do with how bad a quarterback he is. Four on nine Josh is my hot take is Watson played his last game in the NFL. He'll get put on the commissioner's exemplist. We'll get cut. So Cleveland gets out of the contract and no one will pick him up because the product isn't worth it. We'll see. Um, I wouldn't, you know, if I'm Cleveland, I'm thinking about doing that. What's another hot take? You have blinkers. Uh, let's see. From my perspective, the Packers, no matter what happened with Jordan Love, week one and when he comes back, it just solidified my notion that they aren't anywhere close to what everybody did at the start of the year, make some people making them Super Bowl champs. I watched them. They made a lot of mistakes. They changed a kicker. That was a huge problem a year ago. He still ain't great. The guy that they got. Um, it was 44. It's weird to me. They, they, yeah, I don't like pro kickers that were 44. They do that in college, but that's fine. But that's what they did when they redid the numbers recently where guy like defenders can wear single digits like linebackers and else zero zero. Yeah. So it's that's one of those, one of those things I just wasn't impressed with Green Bay. I think they left points on the table. They continue to make mistakes. They shouldn't make. And now with Jordan love out, they're hoping they didn't put them on the injured list. They're hoping it's only three weeks. When you saw with one replay where something in his knee moved and popped. It looked like it looked pretty nasty and Malik Willis ain't coming, he ain't coming to the rescue. I think Green Bay season might be over. Yeah. The fact they didn't put them on the injured list kind of gives me a little bit of hope. They're saying what three weeks right now, that's the expectation maybe four. Yeah. I mean, if you place them on the aisle, he has to miss four games. Right. He makes a fake three or maybe he's back sooner and surprises all or maybe Green Bay is like Dana Brown. He doesn't know how to use the injured list. I wouldn't discount that. But I think that the big thing too is they're thinking now with the long the long time off that somehow miraculously he's going to make all this progress and he's still going to be okay. They should have already brought rent. Ryan Tanner Hill in because we know Malik Willis from what we've seen ain't the guy. Yeah. That's they're going to be toast. I'm going to I'm going to try to play the defense of whoever Green Bay is playing smart, my hot take. Do they play Andy? Yeah. In Green Bay. Okay. I'll think about it. I say a likely is better than Mark Andrews. He will have a more productive season than Mark Andrews who put up better numbers. He will be tied in number one in Baltimore and I'll go as far to say that he's going to be the second best pass catcher in Baltimore behind say I don't go ahead, Joe. I love all of that. I thought that he was so impressive. And I think Mark Andrews is coming back from an injury where it takes a good portion of time before you kind of try and get to where you were before the injury. Not that Mark Andrews isn't going to be a weapon, not he that he's not going to end up being back to being a security blanket for for for Lamar. I just believe that likely look like he can really play in this league and he's versatile and he's got some moves and you have to take advantage of that. I think he's going to get a lot of throws his way. I'm completely trash in this like I saw someone who broke down kind of the ISO all 22 film of that. You look at what the chiefs decide to do against Mark Andrews and they've done this before. They bracketed them basically on every play. There's only about three plays in the game where Mark Andrews actually had a chance to do something because the chiefs decided because of who the Ravens have available to them to basically double Mark Andrews on every play. Likely is impressive. He's a great athlete, but a lot of that was dump offs and broken plays. I mean, the touchdown that he had down the sideline, they had the probability for a touchdown that played like at three percent. Now that Branham's eyes, Branham's eyes are we going by they knew where to extend the play and then he made the nifty little move to get in the end. So why would the bracket coverage stop? Why would the bracket coverage stop the dump boss play in the Baltimore offense because they're heavy running. I mean, but why why the right players always have the sounds like blankers. The best. Sounds like a bet. Okay. Sounds like a bet. Well, what's the bet? Go down to the rundown bet. And I get week one. I get week one because that's prior to the production of 2024. Should we go? Go back to the season. I said that he's tied in one in Baltimore. He's better than Mark Andrews. So we have a more productive season is what I said. Okay. I'd be willing to do a week to one. I don't know about week one, but you believe that Andrew is going to come back to forward. Yeah, I do. I look at. So he's going to have one of those. Yeah, see, Spagnola's done this before. He always brackets. Mark Andrews. This goes back to not just this year. Okay. He's here. So that's what a dog. But if you believe in Mark Andrews, he's going to have one of those games and he's going to have priority over, over likely, yeah, well, my belief is when you're not playing the cherries. He's not going to get bracketed. It is very soft. The Brian because I'm hard. I will do it. Let's do it. I like the Mark Andrews week two on, but are we doing a receptions? Yeah, but, but they both have to play 12 games. That's fine. Injury void, 12 games. So to week two on 12 game injury void, um, you call it. That's how confident I am. I'll go. I'm fine with either, but I'll say yards. Okay. Total yards, likely Andrews week two on week two on what's the bet? Where do the stakes? Probably a drink. A drink at a remote. I'm fine with that. A drink at a remote. Somebody else is paying for it. I bought it. You know, I bought it. Yeah. But I could have had it on the company's time. You could have, but you didn't get it on my that was zero EV is what that was zero EV. All right. What's your final hot taker? I think the Cardinals are going to be competitive in the NFC now. I don't, I don't mean that they're going to, you know, win 10 11 games to make a playoff run, but I think this is a team that's going to make what they win six games last year. I think this is going to be a team that makes at least a two or three game jump, probably misses out on the playoffs, but gets close to it. I think they're better than the Seahawks in that division. I think they could be better than the Rams that division. I mean, on the road, uh, Marvin Harrison Jr. had what one catch in the game and they're still in a six point game at Buffalo, uh, in a tough place to play. I think the Cardinals, uh, now with Tyler Murphy, you know, the Tyler Murray, you know, knock on wood healthy. Uh, I know I said Murphy, no, I thought you were Joe Buck cause we, I was going to say that before we get off the topic, Joe Buck last night called him lively. Oh, really? Okay. Multiple times. Uh, but yeah, I think the, I think the Cardinals are going to be pretty competitive in, in, in, in the race longer than we expected. I think so too. I think that they're, I think the six and seven spots in the NFC are wide open wide open. I think after the green Bay issues and watching Philadelphia and then watching the Niners last night, I think that as much as I'm not going to say it's complete fool's gold, but the Cowboys played a Browns team that looks like it's in disarray with a really horrible quarterback. But I think that the two teams at the top of the NFC are so head and shoulders better than everybody else that I think everybody's going to be in play at the bottom of the NFC, especially because of the fact that there's going to be parody and green Bay is, is already I think in a big, in a big hole. I, I think as much as we talked about Seattle early, I don't see Arizona making the playoffs. I think Marvin Harrison Jr. still waving his hands that he was open and Kyle Murray's not throwing him in the football, but it's a good problem to have. You were hanging, you were beating the bills and you didn't need your big first round draft pick. I think they have talent. I just don't, I don't think they're going to be fighting for a playoffs. The last three real quick, Kevin O'Connell could coach an offense. I don't care who his quarterback is and then Kevin O'Connell might be one of those guys. The Buccaneers are the best team in the NFC self. I thought the Falcons were a buccaneers are green with that and J. K. Dobbins is running back one and lad McConkey is wide receiver one in the, with the Chargers already. That I do that as well. All right. What are your hot takes after week one in the NFL, 7, 1, 3, 7, 8, 0, 3, 7, 7, 6. Also I've eliminated two teams from the playoffs already already. Two teams are gone and there's four more on the brink. Here's Joel Blanken, Jeremy Brandon, Lamont's taking you to a task. Pause. I just heard blankers say Texans should be lucky for the quarterback we got. I'm about to go listen to the killer bees after the first night of the draft. Blankers was losing his bad word because we didn't get price. Lamont. Lamont. I mean, all you, this is the kind of stuff you live for is to try and get your shoe box out with your receipts and then hopefully that you can match it up to make some sense of it all. Look, I admitted wholeheartedly that I wasn't sure if either guy and who was the guy to pick there. But whether I said whether it was luck or anything else, you got the right guy. If I was wrong in saying that Bryce Young in most people's minds was the number one quarterback to take their absolutely no problem. But I'm just saying from a Texans perspective and as I posted the Texans fans perspective, you got the right guy. Don't, if you want me to stay lucky, then thankfully, thankfully you got the best of the bunch. Yeah. I mean, I want to love it. So I don't really have a leg to stand on. I'm a, I'm a moron on the mic, but you know that. So I mean, I don't understand why anybody would listen to me anyways. A 7 1 3 7 8 0 3 7 7 6 now listen to me as I tell you two teams that have already been eliminated from the playoffs. Two teams are already toast in the NFL already they're eliminated mathematically according to Branham. Those two teams Carolina. They're done. They're done. Carolina needs to embrace the suck. They go quarterback next year. I don't know. I don't know if there's a quarterback next year. Boy, that was spicy. I mean, it's happened. Yeah. It's happened. Kyler Murray who was on. But good on them. If they're able to do what a lot of general managers and organizations couldn't do and say we were wrong and cut the court quickly. Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams with Justin Fields. They moved on from Phillips who was a high first rounder and they traded him and then drafted Williams. Kyler Murray would you it with Josh Rosen. I don't love the quarterbacks in this draft though. Lance is a little different because they didn't use a number one overall pick. No, but they traded. They traded. They traded. It was like one third. Yeah. Third pick. Okay. I thought you meant perdy taking over Lance. No, no, no. You meant Lance taking over. They traded him and made them. They said he was going to be the franchise quarterback and then just basically cut the court and say, yeah, I was thinking a team who had recently drafted a quarterback in the first round and then they immediately draft another quarterback in the first round and move on from their former first rounder. But yeah, that's similar. So Carolina eliminated. I don't love the batch of quarterbacks in this year's draft. Maybe Carson Beck's that guy. I'm not a sure. Drew Sanders guy. Like I'm already out on him. Maybe Cam Ward turns into that guy like he's a freak too, but right now I don't I don't love the quarterbacks in this draft class. The other team that's eliminated the New York football Giants, you're done and quite frankly you're probably done ever since that episode of Hard Knocks when the owner walked into the GM's office and goes, I would lose sleep if we lose Saequan Barkley to the Eagles. He's our most popular player. I think they might clean house. I think they might clean house their toast. They're done. Daniel Jones isn't leading you to the promised land. The four teams that go ahead, though, I was going to say it's a scary proposition when your owner casually thinks that and ends up being right over your general manager and your football staff. That's not a great look. No, the four teams that I have on the cusp of being eliminated from the NFL playoffs already one week into the season. I do not care. Tennessee, Tennessee's on the cusp. Their head coach is talking about punting on first down. Their head coach said we had a better chance to win that game if we punted on first down. What does that say about your quarterback? What does that say about your offense? We had a better chance of punting on first down to win that game than our terrible offense losing it for us. So Tennessee, they're they're they're a game away from being eliminated. Now their defense is pretty good, I think. So I'm willing to wait a little, but if they have a bad showing in week two, you're the third team eliminated from the NFL. That's better score. Some points. No. Next team that I have on the cusp of being eliminated Las Vegas lot, not a great look. I mean, I'm not high on the Chargers. People are higher on the Chargers than I am that offense. They have no running attacks. Mirror White's playing like 25% of the snaps. Devontae Adams getting older. You don't have a quarterback to give them the ball. I think Brock Bauer is going to be good someday. It's not yet Vegas on the cusp of being eliminated. I think Vegas is going to look to trade Devontae Adams before the deadline. I think that there's that that is just a no win situation and they could use whatever you can get for him. And he could use to get into a different scenery where a guy that can actually throw him the football. I think that the the luster wore off. I think whether it was just purely just the overall team friendly guy, the kind of players coach that came in and peers that was a tough nose, but he understood it because he's been there. Kind of guy. They rode that wave through the end of last season. They gave him the contract. Now it's like, okay, now what you let Jacobs walk out the door. He really didn't address the quarterback's situation in the draft though you were trying to do some things that didn't work out. You were stuck with what you got. That doesn't look pretty. I think it's a complete reset button. I think they could look to trade multiple veterans and just completely get as much as many assets as they can get. They would try to cross me. I thought about it. That's the next guy on my list. I mean, that would give you it. I'll get you some assets. Yeah, you get Adams and you get Crosby in different in different homes. And I think that you could load up on some picks can expedite the rebuild quickly. Yeah. I like that idea. The next team that I have on the customer being eliminated, the commanders look rookie quarterbacks hard to win a fun with the football four times. I don't think that defense is very good. Scary terry caught the ball like twice. Like what are you doing, Cliff? Give that guy the football. That's your best offensive weapon. Commanders on the cuss being eliminated and then my final team on the cuss being eliminated. The Green Bay Packers. Yeah. I'm with you. Sorry how to do it to you. But if Malik Willis has to play four games or own four, your own five to start the season. Curtains. Yeah. No, I think that that's the biggest thing. I think when, you know, remember how Lamont notate this. I lost my stuff because of the fact that Nick Cessario didn't have a backup plan when he knew Kenyon Green, not matter if it was when he was going to go down. And you should have already been planning for that from a Green Bay Packers perspective. The fact is, yes, you signed Jordan Love to the contract that I was leery of. Then you, you made sure right at the end of training camp, you cut both of the quarterbacks that know your playbook, that know the system really doubling down on not only is Jordan Love going to be good, but you don't need anybody behind him. And now you are here holding the bag of what the hell are you going to do next because you traded for Malik Willis and you're trying to find answers like Ryan Tannehill when you are there, you have no options and don't tell me what Baker Mayfield would did in one week. That was Sean McVay. Right. And that was trying to get in for one week in a system. Your schedule is not going to allow you to the kind of pad that you need to get Malik Willis serviceable and you're in big trouble. I mean, if Tannehill could, I mean, I think Tannehill could go two and two like you're right now. Yeah. Without knowing the playbook possible. Yeah. I give him a better chance of winning two games over four weeks in a week scenario. I would agree with that. Well, I mean, I think it's the only scenario that matters. But I don't know that they're willing to do that because again, are you going to spend the money? What's Tannehill going to cost? Are they willing to do those kind of things when they're normally so frugal in terms of how they spend with free agents and money? This is an urgent situation. You don't have the right guy right now because you have to win right now to stay relevant. Yeah. And I don't think they're going to do it. That's sad. Four, three ownership should be ticked off. Four, three, two, one. Could the Giants be the worst team in the NFL this year? I think it's Carolina. I think it's well. I'll tell you what, after week one, it doesn't, I thought it was going to be New England. The Giants look, look bad. Carolina looks like they should be playing in the, in college football. I mean, Carolina looks awful. Panthers and Giants play in Germany this year. Ooh, will anybody go? The Germans are going to hate football. A 0170, what do you think about Adrian Newey, signing with Aston Martin? Not much. A 3300 Quinn, yours is a quarterback to watch in this draft class. I don't love him as a pro. Well, there's a lot of people having his stock go way up and we'll see how the season finishes, but you know, he was supposed to be in the mix for a first round pick if he was in the draft last year. Yeah. He hasn't heard himself yet. We'll see. I think it would have been a mid rounder last year. Three, four, five. Were you saying? Well, I thought I heard some people talking about the. If he would have been a first rounder last year, he would have come out. He came, he went back because the stock wasn't there. What do you think of him as a pro? I think he's a low in starter high in backup. I think I think he's got the, I think he's got enough arms for eighth. He's shown some improvement in the ability to like look off the fenders and anticipate throws, but the accuracy in some of the ball placement, I don't think it's still. He's damn hard enough to me. What round does that make him then? I mean, in this draft, I think he's a first rounder. I don't like this draft. In a good draft, I would say he's a third rounder. I don't like this draft class for quarterbacks. Let me be clear on that because they're, I like the draft class. I like every draft class. I don't like the quarterback class. We're somehow nuts. Yeah. Yeah. He's back up to genome. What would GM Joel give up for Davis Mills for the, no, for real? No, I'm not. I'm not, I'm not. I will not answer that question. No, no, I'm not giving up anything for Davis Mills. You would trade a fifth rounder for Davis Mills for the Packers because I don't believe Davis Mills is good enough. He's better than Malik Willis. Similar system though. Again, that's different. Is he better than Malik Willis? Yes. Is he capable of taking this team to compete for a playoff spot? No. So therefore, as long as you have all these young receivers and all this young talent and what everybody's talking about, then you might as well just endure whatever you're going to endure while love is out. Take what you're going to take your medicine, get some high picks and load up even more. Okay. So you're kind of giving up on the play. I'm almost embracing the suck. I don't think they're going to suck because they have enough talent. I just don't think they're going to be a playoff team with anybody at center that they're going to have options of looking at right now other than Jordan Love. Well, let's say Jordan Love returns a week five. So you got three more games to get through. I think we all assume Malik Willis is over three in those three games. You're on. Yeah. So you're on four. I mean, if Davis Mills can get you one win and you're one of three, you have a chance to rebound and get into the playoffs. But you ain't playing cupcakes the rest of the line. You got the Texans on your schedule. You've got good teams on your schedule. Texas is the end of the year. Jordan loves to be back by them. It's week six or seven. Yeah. Jordan loves back. I know. But in my hypothetical, I said Jordan loves back week five. Okay. Fine. He's back week five, but you're Owen four and I don't know what level he's going to go for the league. But are you one in three with Davis Mills and that's enough to keep you alive. I don't think you're one in three with Davis Mills. Blankers is throwing in the towel in the crackers. Yeah. He's giving up on the year. Depending on how long. If he's out for at least three, four weeks minimum, I think they're done. I kind of want to see the Packers get Davis Mills to get Joel to the point where he likes Davis Mills. That's never going to happen. What I kind of like about this, we know we hate short of love. What I kind of like about this though is how much blankers is desperate to get Jordan love back. I don't I haven't seen enough to trust Jordan love being worthy about this thing because you're wrong. I don't dislike him. I just haven't seen enough to like what they did with the contract. You guys see more. Yes. Yes. You really want them back. Let's not go for that. 713 780 ESPN HRNP listener line. Do we suddenly have a center filled debate in Houston? It's the bees on ESPN 97 5 and ESPN 92 5.
