On ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Shay, we've got J Moore. We've got you for a three hour ride on this Tuesday morning with open full lines for you. Three, one, two, three, three, two, three, seven, seven, six, our telephone number and cap in the afterglow of the Bears and their victory against the Tennessee Titans by the score of 24 to 17. There are a lot of questions, not only in our city, but around the country about the Chicago Bears as far as what the offense did not do. We all know that what we saw on Sunday was a microcosm of what we've seen a lot of as a Bears fan. Strong defense, strong special teams, the offense. And way, way behind. But the Bears found a way to win the football game. Now, there's a real concern about Caleb Williams after week one for some people. For me, it's kind of what we talked about all summer. It's a rookie quarterback that has to learn on the job cap. And I think that it was, come to Jesus moment for Caleb Williams, who never is nervous when he's out there, never gets nervous. But one thing, you might not have been nervous on Sunday, but he understood this is the National Football League, this is not college. - So watching that game again yesterday. So I've now watched it live and then condensed twice. All 22 will drop later, I'll watch that later today. In watching that, they got manhandled up front. Now that Tavandre sweat shade was telling us in our morning squaré, that the reason he slipped into the second round is because he had a DUI before the draft. - Understandable. - That shouldn't happen. That's an idiotic decision. The fact of the matter is at 65366 that dudes a monster at In Jeffrey Simmons and Harold Landry and all these other guys that they ran at Caleb, no excuses. He missed on the Keenan Allen throw. He missed on the DeAndre Carter throw. We just caution everybody. Can we not panic, please? They're wanna know. They found a way to win a football game that they had no business winning because their offense was horrible. Go back to work, Roma Dunes is gonna be sidelined. It looks like for at least a week and just run the football. Why are we running Gerald Everett out there? Almost twice the number of snaps is Cole Comette. Dunes A played a good chunk of the game before he tweaked his knee. - Yeah. - You had, I wanna ask you a question all of you. Dunes A, Caleb Williams, DeAndre Swift, Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, can we agree? Those are their five best offensive players. - That is correct. - Che, you agree? - Yeah. - Okay, here's Michael J Moore, you agree? I think you would, okay? How many plays did those five guys play together? - How many, I don't know. - Ten. - Yeah. - Ten! What are we doing? Shane Waldron, that's your call. That's not an Eber Flus thing. That's the O coordinator. Gerald Everett's fine as an extra guy. What are we doing playing him 27 or whatever number of snaps? Come on, man. Run the football this week, establish some tempo, run some play action and get the kid comfortable and then he's gotta hit some throws. - Okay, well, a couple of things. First of all, running the football, I think it was Paramount for this young rookie quarterback. We talked to Matt Eber Flus about this yesterday. He joined us yesterday at 8/20. He's gonna join us after every Bears game right here on cap and J-hood. It's Paramount for the Bears to run the football. We talked about DeAndre Swift. You take away the 20 yard runny hat cap. Remember, he had 10 carries for 30 yards. One of them was a 20 yarder. The rest of it was kind of pedestrian. Overall, the Bears ran the football for 84 yards, good for 22 carries. Okay, they have to run the football more effectively. I think that over the next few games cap, we will find out how special this running game will be. It's one thing to chip and chip and chip and chip away like the Titans did against us on Sunday. But I wanna know who's gonna be special out of that running back room. I like DeAndre Swift because obviously, as a Georgia Bulldog, I watched him at his very best in college. He's been a very solid in the National Football League. But again, I need to know about Kyle Herbert. I need to know about Roshan Johnson when he's healthy. I wanna know how they'll be able to work this running game because if this is Shane Waldron, he likes the ball in the air. He likes the game to be vertical. Let's just see how this works and how this operates over the next four or five games. But running the football is important. No matter how big the front is, 'cause now Houston's coming up on Sunday. I think that's tough. Run the football and guess that front? It is, but you still have to run the football and take time off the clock for the young rookie quarterback. - Correct, now their front four is not as good. They pressure the quarterback, maybe better, Will Anderson. But their stout type guys in the middle are not as difficult to block as what you saw from Tennessee. Tennessee has a top five, front four. That front four is a beast. Run the football, do your job blocking, get freaking Nate Davis' ass into the game. He was terrible, so they ended up going to Ryan Bates. Nate Davis makes 10 million a year. When you pay a significant amount of money, he may not be the best right guard in football, but he's certainly decent. He looked horrible, running around, not getting the body of anyone. And then Coleman Shelton was just overwhelmed by the interior of that defensive front. So that's gotta get cleaned up today. - My hope is, is that the Bears can reach the lofty goals that you have for them in the regular season. Hopefully they will win 11 games. But the reason why that I paired back on the win total is because of all we talked about in the first seven minutes. And that is some of the question marks, that negatives. Just the question marks about the Chicago Bears, which we just laid out as we talk about the offensive line, how they've all got to be come together, how they all got to be able to work in concert, how they got to be more productive. We talked to Tom Thayer about the offensive line. He wasn't sure about the offensive line coming in because he gave them a solid C. And I believe it's Tom Thayer, so it's always going to be on a curve. It's the truth, but he's just going to tell you like yeah, it's about the best it could be as a C right now. And he's correct. Tom is as honest as they come. It's a curve, but he's a bear, but he also will tell you like, I think it's a C now, but that gives room for improvement by giving them a C. And because you need anchors on that offensive line, along with a quarterback that has to be comfortable in the pocket cap. And again, where was the success for Caleb Williams? Outside of the pocket. Go back for the majority of the completions he had, it was outside of the pocket. Is that not true? Correct. I mean, nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying that at some point, it's going to have to be in the pocket for him to stand in there stoically and get it to DJ Moore and Kean Allen and Roma Dunes. Some of the better quarterbacks that we saw in week one, even Matt Stafford had to hang in there and just take it. Like I'm not going to be moving around. I got to get the ball out quickly. And whatever happens, if I get knocked down, I get knocked down. But a lot of it was him rolling out of the pocket like you did at USC. Again, this is a young quarterback learning on the job. Now, the one thing that did surprise me, Caleb Williams, average time to throw till he got the ball up, 2.71 seconds. To where it's supposed to be? Yeah, not a problem. But when you got Kean and Allen on a double move, wide open down the left sideline, you can't be four yards past him. Can't, the Andre Carter, can't miss him. I'm not asking you to throw 100% completion, but you got to be better than that. What you just laid out is the Bears Five. That's the Jackson Five, the Bears Five. Yeah, guys that you believe that are the cornerstones of the offense. I mean, okay, you have the snap counts, so do I. Why is Mercedes Lewis on the field for seven snaps? We're trying to run the football. Yeah. You signed him to block. That's what his job is. He's not going to catch 75 passes, 11 touchdowns. That's not who he is anymore. That was 15 years ago. Okay. But the dude is one of your leaders in the trenches. Where's Cole come at? One catch for four yards. What are we doing here, Shane Waldron? That's on the quarterback too, now that's all together. 'Cause, but going back to what I told you before the season cap, everyone has to learn one another. Like Shane Waldron, yes, he's been in camp. Yes, they've had preseason games, but he's got to get acclimated to who's best on the field at what particular time also. I mean, look at the facts. The facts aren't that the Bears have starting field position at the Tennessee 48, 34, and 31, and at their own 43 in their 10 possessions. Not to score an offensive touchdown has got to be really troublesome for Shane Waldron, Mattie, we're flusin' the Bears. Think about it, you've got good field positions still couldn't get into the end zone. Now we've highlighted the drop by Allen, but the point is those that it was going sideways, not forward for the Chicago Bears offensively. Think about that field position, 48, 34, 31, your own 43, and you had 10 possessions and you could not move the football. Now again, I don't expect that to be the case all season. We're just highlighting and talking about what needs to be improved from week one. Yeah, so the snap counts that I have offensive line-wise, Braxton Jones, all 56 snaps, 100%. Same with Coleman Shelton, same with Darnell Wright, who in my watching, and again, I haven't watched y'all 22, I don't have the eye of Tommy or Olin or Yurko, but I think I know what I'm lookin' at. I thought he played his best game. David Jenkins was on the field for 56 snaps. Obviously Caleb was. DJ Moore, 88%, Roma Dunes, a 77%, DeAndre Swift, 70%. But then you go down, Colcom, that's only on the field for 48% of the snaps. Well, Jared Everett's out there, for 61% of the snaps. We should tell the audience why that was for Everett over at Colcomette. Uh, because he has played in the Shane Waldron system. Yeah. But he's not a great blocker, Colcom block now. Yup. Col's your best play, you're paying him $14 million a year for a reason. Get him on the field, man. Waldron's new, he's gotta realize that. See, but again, Neophyte's in the Chicago Bears system. He doesn't know that. We have, we're armed with the knowledge. All of us as Bears fans know how multifaceted that Colcomette is. Do you think Waldron knows that? I'm sure he's seen the tape. But again, he goes with what he knows in Everett, 'cause he's worked with him. That's his guy. Yeah. But again, who's the better player? That's Colcomette, and it's not close. I understand. 100% right. So. I mean, these are the things that you work out when you have new guys in the system. Caleb Williams, new Shane Waldron, new Everett, new. This is what happens, because now what we saw last year where we thought that the era was pointing up for the Bears offensively with weapons, then you add on to these weapons. Now everyone has to be able to be on the same page. It doesn't sonically happen just because we have training camp. It takes time. Is that unfair? Fair. It just takes time. Totally fair. All the points that you are making are 100% fair. But it just doesn't happen, it doesn't work in week one. Hopefully, as we move on, that we'll be able to have more of a balance and that these weapons will be able to get the football and really pay dividends for the Bears. I challenge anybody. Put the tape on and tell me Nate Davis earned his paycheck, 'cause he did not. And that's why he was taken out of the rotation, and he played 18 snaps the entire day. 18. While Ryan Bates played 38 snaps. And if Ryan Bates is better, play him. But sweet mother of God, you're paying Nate Davis $10 million a year, and that was the effort you got. I watched one play where he literally ran around like, "Who do I block here?" Nobody. Nobody. Come on, man, what are we doing? You know, as a general manager, you're not going to bet 1,000 every time. And this Nate Davis experiment that we're seeing cap, I mean, at some point you might have to move on, and then you just check it off for Ryan polls like, "Yep, I know you tried. That didn't work." Correct. Because you need to be able to have difference makers for the offensive line to be a holder for Caleb Williams. Well, Caleb Williams moved around in the pocket for a reason. He moved around because that offensive line was not holding up. Again, it's a miracle. He was only sacked twice. Correct. It's a miracle. You're correct. Because you are absolutely correct. It wasn't the worst we've ever seen, but it was not good enough to work with a rookie quarterback in Caleb Williams. It was not good enough. It was not. So this week, you've got to be able to keep the offense on the field and keep their offense off the field. See the straws a beast, man. That was an impressive win to go into Indy. Indy is a good team. With beat them 29-27, that was a tough game and they found a way to win. You better run the football and establish it so you keep the clock moving. 3-1-2-3-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-3-2-3-7-7-6-0-4 number. So what is your concern level for the Bears' offense? You saw the Bears win 24-17, but no offensive touchdowns. The defensive special teams came through for the Bears, but as you watch that game on Sunday, as you reflect back, was your concern level for the Bears' offense. Coming up, we'll hear from Matt Ira Fluse, the head coach for the Bears about Caleb Williams' performance. This is Cap and Jay Hood, they beat in the traffic commute, so you don't have to. It's a Cap and Jay Hood Morning Show, on a ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. Here's hoping that you're going to have a great Tuesday. We'll hear from Jesse Rogers with the latest on the Cubs and Sox and everything else. Baseball coming up at 7.50, but Cap and I want to get your thoughts in about the Bears' and their offense. 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6. From my standpoint, Cap, I'm never over the top about one game. We could talk about some of the things that happened in the game, the good and the questionable and the bad if it's there, but I'm never over the top about one game. I know that we waited a long time to see Bears' football, and I know that many had sold your field. You could hear the groans as the game went along from the faithful like, "Oh God, this is Justin Fields all over again," or "An offense is not moving," but you heard the excitement when the Bears were able to get the turnovers, when they were able to score, you heard the excitement there. I can understand the groans and the moans of, "Oh, look at this offense," but you didn't expect 500 yards and four touchdowns in the first game. No matter what people on TV are telling you, like, "This is going to be like the next Patrick Mahomes." Those moans are like, "He's not Patrick Mahomes, not even close. He's a rookie. Allow him to develop." He deserves that. Like any other rookie that comes through the doors at House Hall, they deserve to be able to have some grace. He's going to be good. It just wasn't going to be Sunday. Yeah. If I was him, I would never turn on a radio. I'm talking about for him, a radio, a TV, nothing. I would get my rest, which I hear he's good about getting his sleep. Get up, get to the building, eat, get in my films, get in the virtual room where they can simulate the pass rush, go through all my stuff, get to my meetings, go to practice, get my therapies, get my massages, get my sauna, and my hot tub, go home, eat dinner, get back in bed and go to sleep. I would not pay attention to any of the noise. His focus has got to be to be a better quarterback, and he will. You gave the numbers yesterday, Cap, about the lack of success, especially for the first game for rookies in this league. It is difficult. Oh, and 14, the last 14 times a rookie number one overall pick has started a game to begin his career as a rookie. The last one to win prior to Caleb on Sunday was David Carr in 2002. So all these people freaking out on social media, just need to stop really, please. As promised, we hear from Matt, he reflects the head coach for the Bears. He's with us after every Bears game here on Cap and Jay Hood, his thoughts about Caleb Williams performance. Yeah, I think he would say that too, just, you know, his footwork a little bit off at times, but again, he threw a lot of good good passes too. So I met with him this morning, and that was really about it. His vision, as far as like, I thought his vision was good. Yeah, I thought he was, I thought he was good. I thought he saw it well. I thought he saw the coverage contours. He saw zero, you know, then adjusted on the fly, you know, in terms of post snap. I thought he did a nice job. The 19 yard sack, you know, shelter at good speed, but you see Davis kind of touching and go block on the screen. What's the assignment there? You mentioned after the end that the only miscommunication was somebody got blown up. You just got to really stop that penetration. It can't get on the quarterback that fast. And, you know, when you do that, that play is going to be okay. And again, you know, he tried to evade the sack and tried to move around. I was just on him too fast. And we'll get that cleaned up. Can you just find a way to turn it there, is there, is there anything he can do to kind of come to somewhere? Yeah, I don't know. When you turn around like that, he's right on top. Yeah, I don't know. Again, I'm not out there playing, but my evaluation was he took care of the football, which he did all day in the pocket, you know, I know he had the two sacks. But did a nice job of taking care of the football. And that was really the difference in the game. You know, the quarterback on the opposing team had the giveaways and we didn't. Yeah, it did come down to that. We'll let us turn it over like a three-year-old by just giving the Bears a touchdown. And Caleb Williams did not have any interceptions. Correct. So the one that, if I was the, did you see the quote from Brian Callahan, the Titan said coach told the media down there yesterday? If we would have just punted at the end of every possession the second half we win the game. That is a direct shot at your quarterback. You direct. I love the honesty. Does that affect? Yeah. That's true. But we would have won the football game. I was talking to Tyler yesterday. If Will Levis doesn't just fall to his knees after throwing the pick six and I don't know, runs down Tyreeks Stevenson, Bears could feel goal there, right? You still have a chance like, yeah. I don't know if he had a, did he have a pack? Have to get to it? Dan, I don't know. I'm just making the point. It's maybe stick to the play instead of dropping to your knees and looking to the Lord for answers. Well, I know. There's nobody coming to save you. You weren't here yet in town. Hoodie was Jay Cutler through a pick against the Chargers that sold your field Bears are seven and one at the time. And he tried to run the guy down against what he did, dislocated his thumb was done for the year. Remember? Yeah. Season over. They barely won again. And everyone. But what are you doing? We don't want our quarterback tackling the guy unless it's to save the game at the end. I understand he's a football player. You got to be smarter. I just, you know, if he doesn't just flick it, try to flick it out of bounds and it goes into Stevenson's hands. But it's in the ball game. He's terrible. Listen, Titans coach taking shots at Caleb, great. Maybe look at your own quarterback. Holy cow. I don't think he took a shot at Caleb. He was just talking about. We did the job defensively. We just went upon it. We gave it away three times in the fourth quarter. He said he's right. There's a Denny Green element to what Callahan is saying. The Bears are who we thought they were like we had them. We were up 17 and we let them off the hook. Yep. There's there's that element of like we had the game. We want to crown him. Crown. Yeah. I mean, seriously, I think there's a little element to that. There was there's also as I was watching the video, there's a play that people are writing about where Coleman Shelton got run over, do you remember? I did see that on the film. And Olin Kruitz put out a video. He got tripped by Tevin Jenkins. Tevin took his legs out down. He went and Olin tweeted, yes, Shelton needs to play better. But if you're showing this video, at least say he got tripped by Jenkins on this play. So I clicked on it to get. He's right. He's right. Took his left foot out. Kind of hard when you got a 366-pound man bull-rushing you and someone trips you. 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-6 is our telephone numbers. We talked to you about the Bears, your level of concern about the Bears offense. Craig was the first to call from Norwich on Captain J. Hood. Hey, Craig. Good morning. Good morning. How are you? Well, well, thank you. How are you? Good, man. I'm good, man. So look, thank you for talking about play-con because I was going to call in yesterday and ask about that. Everybody, you laid down the law yesterday morning very early. You said, "Hey, don't talk about play-con. We're not doing that today. We don't want to hear about it, right?" And then I went to WTRT at like 7-15. But yeah, I mean, come on, yesterday, you guys covered stuff and stuff, no tight ends, right? Pressure up the middle. You move the pocket. That's what you normally do, right? How about some bootlegs? Did you see a single screen pass yesterday, a design screen play? I didn't see it. But I mean, you got to, you got to talk play-calling. You have to. It's taken every day and I wasn't expecting much for game one. But man, I mean, you got a question, the play-caller. Craig, I would say that when you struggle as much as the Bears struggled offensively, it's on everybody. I don't understand that the low-hanging fruit is always going to be coaching, but I would say even for what Caleb was given, it still wasn't good enough where he was under-throwing guys. It's all of the above to me. That's why yesterday I said we can't just have three hours of, Shane Waldron sucks after the first game of the regular season. That's not fair. Just like it's not fair to say that that's who Caleb Williams is, there's always a happy medium. I think that everybody was terrible offensively on Sunday. Not enough to be able to score points, that is for sure. Is that fair? I agree. Is that fair? No, that's very fair. But if you want to see the 49ers last night with the short pass, short pass, short pass, end up having a ball for 45 minutes, you know? I mean, you know, just move the chains, man. You know? Move the chains, mate. I agree. Listen, Craig, I agree with you. I appreciate your telephone call. That's their system. That's their system is to dink and dunk and be able to set up for the long pass. That's why McCaffrey is number one in fantasy leagues because they know he could run the football. He's multi-faceted. He could do a lot of different things. But what we saw from that game last night against the Jets, okay? They were able to find a way to implement their system. Like whoever's back there, you're going to run the football. You're going to do what McCaffrey does. Okay. I can do that, coach. And guess what? They did. They ran over. But that's a system that's been in place for a while under Shanahan. Yep. I know, Cap. He hasn't been able to knock down the brass ring yet. But he is very good at being able to be an offensive play caller. Steve and Oak lawn is with us on cap and J hood. We talk bears. Hey, Steve, good morning. Good morning, guys. How's it going? Good man. What's up? Hey, I just want to say real quick, you know, everybody that is spewing out negativity towards Kayla Williams, you know, with him being the first overall pick, all of the expectations, the only through 94 yards in that opener, how many interceptions did he throw? How many times did he fumble the ball? If that were Justin Fields dealing with that pressure, the guy would have fumbled the ball five times and threw two interceptions in the game. Let's give the guy a little credit where it's due being his first NFL game, regardless of how he does not perceive that he has pressure or that he deals with pressure. I just want to get the credit where the credit is due. Obviously, I think he's going to be a better quarterback than we've probably ever had. But I think it's all really going to rely on that play caller, which you said, Cap. We need someone to send out an SOS to Shane Waldron. The NFL, the league is in a death or die league. If you go into every game like that, you're going to force your defense to win every game for you. And they're going to squander any talent that Kayla Williams has. So please, guys, any chance you guys get Shane Waldron, adapt or die, figure it out? Don't wait too long. I would say for the quarterback, the same thing, though, the same edict that you just put out there, Steve, that's for the quarterback in the offensive players as well. Adapt or die. Yeah. A line, right? And he is a fairly accomplished play caller. And last year, I believe Seattle had the fewest turnovers of any team in the National Football League. I believe it was 13. This is a guy who studied under Sean McVay in Los Angeles, where he was the Rams tight-ends coach, promoted a passing game coordinator, promoted a passing game coordinator and quarterback coach, went to Seattle. And then when Pete Carroll retired, he was a free agent. The Bears, he had a lot of teams after him. He is an accomplished coach. So this is one game. They didn't play well. They had a rookie quarterback, they went up against a great front. No excuses. All facts go out and play better on Sunday. Yeah, I would need a body of Stevie. I would need a body of work before we are going to call him what people on social media has called him. Are we getting John Schupeck? Is this Pep Hamilton? No. This is not what we're talking about here. This guy here resurrected Gino Smith's career. Gino Smith was closer to being a Fox Sports College football analyst than quarterback until Shane Waldron came around. His career was done, Cap, until Waldron was like, let's accentuate the positives and hide the negatives, Gino. Go back to your old West Virginia film, What Were You Good At? And look at what happened, like he's a viable quarterback in this league. Thanks to Shane Waldron. Cory, so I just, you know, again, all encompassing is got to get better. It's not just one coordinator or one coach or just one quarterback. It's all got to get better. And it will. Because we have them going to the playoffs. And if not, guess who's going to be punching that clouds around here? Me. You. Yeah. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, ESPN, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. Dan Orlowski talks about Caleb Williams next and more of your phone calls. Jesse Rogers at 7.50 on the cap and jayhood morning show. Checkmate 1, 6, and give suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shirt. Shot. Or no shot. With cap and jayhood on ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago app. That's why I see him in my shirt. Good morning and welcome in to the cap and jayhood morning show on ESPN 1000. And we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app with David Kaplan Jonathan Hood with you. Albert Breyer scheduled to join us at 835 as we go around the NFL with Albert. But first shot or no shot here. Shane on a chain. Good morning, boys. On a Tuesday. How are we feeling? Good. Winger. What's going on, man? Jets. Okay. Oh, God. Let me down. Terrible Monday night football game. Okay. It's unbelievable. There's a terrible football game. Hand them a plus four. Okay. Oh, three. Yeah. We're for the Jets. Yeah. I mean, you just thought. Okay. And the Jets. Again, once you're a jet, you're always a jet. Okay. Aaron Rodgers. Okay. Okay. Robert Soler. Okay. Terrible is a head coach. Terrible is a head coach. No, that was bad, Dan. Anthony Mason, though, the second life here. He's a phenomenal football player. Yes, sure. Who that was. Jordan Mason. Yes. Oh, not the guy from the Knicks. No, old timer. And he's dead. Yes. Yes. Here's Shane Norley. Sorry. Oh, my God. You know what? I was going to do this a little later. But since we're all a little angry at the New York football jets after last night. Okay. Let's just start with this. Robert Soler entering year four now is 18 and 34 as head coach of the New York football jets. And then walk it. That's the question I got for you. If they missed the playoff shot or no shot, Robert Soler is being ejected out of a candidate MetLife. He's gone out out. I just have never seen a guy that looks the part that's even less than cap. He looks like a head coach, doesn't he? He looks the part. He's built up. He does. He does. He's a good looking man. He is. And just it's one of these things cap where you're on a date. And on the other side, the table is Robert Soler and you're a woman. You're saying, who who look what I'm going out with Robert Soler and then he opens his mouth. Oh, God. If you're a woman, you just said, just, just look pretty. Don't say anything. We don't hear your garbage thoughts. Holy smokes. That's what it is. You see him walk into a room. It's Robert Soler. Oh, my God. And then he opens his mouth and then he coaches the football team. Just the worst. I've ever seen a 40 year old virgin where he walks up to the speed dating tables. Yeah. And there's that gorgeous, statuesque blonde and then she speaks like, and you're like, Oh, my God, you're on a date with Robert Soler. Dealbreaker. But as long as we're not talking football, sure it's okay. Just bad. Take it from a bald guy. He must run a razor over his head every 15 minutes because there is no way you can keep your head that smooth. No way. Dude, I shaved yesterday and I can already feel stubble. And I'm like, what are you doing, dude? Watch more film. Quit shaving your head. He used a magic shave. Oh, thanks. Don't stop all day. Shave his head. Yeah, he's like, just, what's going on in there? Just shaving my head again. Shave your head while it stinks. It's magic shave. Wow. Here's Shane. It's funny. I brought this up on Twitter last night that Salah is 18 and 34. And of course, the Bears fan that hates Eber Flus just has to weigh in. Well, Eber Flus, he has a worse winning percent. It does. He's only coached for two seasons and they were both bad years on a rebuilding team. It is a totally different situation. It's all about this year. I don't, shot or no shot. Eber Flus has a better chance to become Chicago Bears version of Dan Campbell than Jets Robert Soler this year. That's a shot. You want us to stay on that island for Robert Soler, enjoy, enjoy that island by yourself. Are you kidding me? I mean, it's set up for Eber Flus to have a successful season. Not necessarily the Jets. Shit. All right, the trade with Carolina just keeps getting worse for the Panthers and better for the Bears. In exchange for Bryce Young, just to whiteboard it, who looks beyond saving as a quarterback, the Bears got DJ Moore, Darnell Wright, Tyreak Stevenson, Caleb Williams and a second round pick this year. That second round pick is now the key because the Panthers went and got flat lined by the Saints in the opener and then things got really bad. Panthers star defensive lineman Derek Alan Torres Maniscus and is done for the year. Now there's a really good chance Panthers are once again going to be the worst team in the NFL and the Bears could get the 33rd pick in the draft out of this same trade shot or no shot. This is already a top three trade in NFL history for Ryan polls. Yes, shot. No question. Shot. Absolutely. No, again, everything's got to play out like Caleb has to be good. DJ has to take the contract extension and be a really good player with it. Yeah. Paper right now, wow, guys, we know the bad organizations when we see them. You know who they are. You change ownership. You change the GM. You change the head coach, but you're still the Carolina Panthers that I mean, this is what it is. Cap, you know, when you see them, they tried to move heaven and earth to try to get better and they got, and unfortunately they got Bryce Young, that's what they chose because of Alabama. They're like, you know what? You was coached by Nick Saban. He'll break the mold of Alabama quarterbacks. He'll be kept up. The big story was I told you this. I was told by someone who would know that they flew down on David Tepper, the owner of the Panthers playing and it was Scott Fitterer, then the GM. He's out now, David Tepper and Frank Reich and whoever else they had and Tepper went into statements of it. Yeah, you guys stay out here. He had a one on one for like an hour and a half with Nick Saban and he convinced them you've got to take Bryce Young, not CJ Strahm. Uh oh, you should have considered that Nick Saban is a great evaluator of college talent. Yeah. There's like the one lost record in the National Football League, might want to ask someone else. Well, he reportedly, the GM he fired Fitterer wanted CJ Strahm, right? And the owner overruled. Okay. It's his toy. He can do that. But if you're paying a football, man, why don't you let him make the football decisions? That's correct. However, having said that, Bryce Young, you know, being with Carolina Fitts, if you have the quarterback for Houston, CJ Strahm and a Carolina Panthers uniform, you just be another bad player with Hello Kitty on his helmet. Yep. He wouldn't be as good as he is right now, because it's about talent around him. There was enough talent around him to galvanize that team to get to the playoffs last year. Correct. Imagine CJ Strahm with Carolina. Imagine if Paul's had not made the trade. Hello, Kitty. Wow. Imagine if Paul's hadn't made the trade and got talked into taking Bryce Young, if his owner, if George said, I want you to take Bryce Young, can you imagine? Well, just look what wouldn't be on your team. No doubt. No right. No DJ Moore. No Tyreek Stevenson. No Caleb Williams. No second round pick next year. Holy cow. You'd be the worst team of football under Teddy Phillips. That would have happened. Here's Shane Orland. Wow. All right. Over the weekend. I want to say wrong. God, I'm just, you just painted a picture and I'm so glad that we don't have to watch Bryce Young every weekend. Oh my God. That would be terrible. This is horrible. Over the weekend, Tyreek Hill was stopped by police and cuffed on his way to the dolphins game. Body cam footage has since been released, but I want to go a different direction with this for now. Shot or no shot, Tyreek Hill scoring an 80 yard touchdown. The day of his arrest was cooler than Scotty Scheffler firing a 500 par, the day of his arrest. I don't know if it's cooler, they're both cool because that video is so disturbing to watch. I call my wife over and said, "Hone, do me a favor. Watch this video. I have my thoughts. Please watch this." She's like, "Okay, those police officers are out of their minds." Again, was Tyreek 100% in the right? Absolutely not. And if he was supposedly reckless driving, throw the book at him for whatever the penalty is for that, fine, whatever it is. Ask you to put your window down, put the window down. You yank him out of the car, put a knee in his back, bend his arms into the cuffs, and then another guy comes over and gives him a headlock, it shoves him to the ground. Dude, those guys should not keep their job, period. To answer your question directly, Scheffler getting arrested and firing a 500 par on the same day is more of an accomplishment, and here's why, because he was booked. That's why. True, he sat in a cell. He had a sit. He took the picture of the mugshot, sat in a cell, and then went back out there and shot a 500. Oh, did he not stretch in the cell? Remember he was doing golf stretching? Yes, he was doing it ready. He was doing a little Johnny Carson, and he was doing that, and then he was on the ground doing the stretches to get loose. There's a little Johnny Carson golf swing, and then I think that's more impressive. Talking about the issue at hand, it's a long conversation, because I know we got around the NFL here around the corner, but I just want to say that again, once again, overzealous cops, once again, an incident like that that's shown on video shows you that we are not beyond copying overzealous and being over the top on an individual, whether it's Tyree Kill or anyone else. For all the great cops that are out there, those that are there to serve and protect, there's also those that feel like that they can overpower any situation just because. The video tells the story. Thank goodness we have the video today to be able to illustrate everything that's going on. That body cam footage came out less than 24 hours after the incident, less than 24 hours. Tyree Kill, if he was speeding, you give him the ticket and you keep it moving. Do you open the car door, yank him out of it, put him on the pavement or face first, and then Collance Campbell, who was a concerned teammate and citizens like, hey, anything I can do here, no, you're going to put the cops on him too. His teammates are trying to help him. Here's the problem. When you're African American, when you are anybody in that situation, it is very difficult to be able to say, hey, man, I know that wasn't in the wrong and you feel like that you are helpless because yet you're in the wrong. But do you deserve that treatment? Absolutely not. Absolutely not. And as you well know, there are Ariana Preston was a terrific police officer who died, who was murdered and on her lawn. I have three police officers, one a former sheriff that's been in my family cap. So I love police. I'm not anti-police. But I am anti-jackaloon that feels like that they could just be law and order and just do whatever they want to citizens. That's not right. Oh, it was a hot, r- gut-wrenching video to watch if, again, if he was reckless driving or speeding, give him the ticket, absolute, you yank him out, face first, shove him down on the ground, bend his arms back, cuff him, stand him up and go, sit down and he puts him in a headlock, dude, it was, it was unconscionable. And for people that you mentioned Ariana, for people that don't know, that was Hoodie's first cousin, the police officer that was murdered, just horrific circumstances. So yes, you do have several law enforcement officers in your family. And again, love the police. But in that situation, once again, why be over the top? Even if you didn't know who Tyree Kill is, this saying he's just Tyree Kill, Miami, Florida, resident. Was that necessary? No, it was not. But the film tells everything. It does. It does because before it's something that would be written in the paper, there was no video. So you just had to go by what was written. But you saw it. Right. And then the one police officer when Kalei Campbell is 6'9", 315. And when he is standing there and he's calling, I think it was him who was calling Drew Rosenhauer, the agent for Tyree Kill, Drew, they're beating on Tyree. You've got him in handcuffs. You've got to get here. And the cop says, okay, that's it. You're going to jail. What? What did he do? He's standing on a sidewalk. If it was that egregious, why didn't Tyree Kill go to jail? Correct. That's the other part of it, right? If it was that bad, he's like, if you thought that he was, and by the way, if you watch the video, it wasn't like Tyree just trying to get away. He's the fastest man I know. He wasn't trying to run away from the situation. And you listened to, I saw him on ABC with a sit down interview, I've seen him interviewed in other places. CNN. He's been right there in the middle. He's talking about saying, hey, you know, and I just want to be, I'm a good person trying to be a better person. I understand that the cops have something and have a right to be able to do what they have to do in law enforcement. He understands serve and protect. But in that situation, that's over the top. And then by the way, the Miami police officer, the Miami police feel that same way too because one of them is on administrative leave. Yeah, I think the one that was out of his mind grabbing him about the headlock. I think he's been taken off the street. Yeah, was it administrative leave or an administrative duty? I think they have him pushing papers for a little while. Just, I mean, brutal. Just wrong. It's absolutely wrong. And you think about a cap, all the situations that we've talked about from George Floyd and going backwards, it happens all the time. It happens too much. For all the great officers, you get nonsense that happened on Sunday. Awful. If he was speeding, fine. Give him the ticket, let him keep it moving. Completely agree. But making a scene out of all of it, like he was trying to escape or like he was unwilling, that wasn't the case. I'm going to TikTok right now and show you citizens that are unwilling to comply with the police. That's what would happen with Tyree Hill. Absolutely not. Correct. It's it's it's it's sickening to watch. It happens way too often. Around the NFL, next on cap and J-hood. Welcome back. Welcome back to cap and J-hood. I'm Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. It both sucks. He sucks. I'm just a fan. I'm not a football evaluator. I love the Green Bay Packers. The guy is wrong. But there he goes. This is not Detroit, man. This is the Super Bowl. I love winning. He starts the comedy. This is a really thickly built guy. I mean, what's the answer you're looking for on these things here? Time to go around the NFL here on cap and J-hood. Albert Breyer comes your way at 835 around the NFL with Shay Norlin. Alright around the NFL, every Tuesday, I'm going to tell you, don't be surprised if X happens. Very exciting. I'm going to look forward a little bit, reacting still to week one, and these trends might continue. Alright, so don't be surprised if the Bengals are actually just not very good. Joe Burrow was the third worst quarterback of week one by EPA per play. He was bad. The wrist, it still looks like it's impacting him when throwing the football. They might be paying a little bit of karmic justice for not just paying their guys. Jamar Chase has to get more reps. He wasn't bad in the game. But overall, the operations stunk. Everything just kind of looked difficult for Cincinnati against the New England team. That's morbid. And they lose that game. Oh, and one start. Look, don't be shocked if this team has a disappointing season and we start hearing about Zack Taylor might get canned. This could be a season long disappointment. Jamar, don't forget to transcribe my thoughts in the show. I think it's better. It's more consumable that way when I say things like what Shaeja said, leading into the season. Just transcribe it. Just put it out there for public consumption. You got it. Oh, thank you very much because no one listens around here. So. Listen, credit to you, Odie. I heard you say it. No. You can't get credit on the back end. Got to give it on the front end. And my overall view of Cincinnati as I've said on the show is I think Joe Burrough is good. I don't think that the Bengals will supply him with enough to be able to get back up there again. And the same thing with this season two. I think it's going to be fine. It's just, Shae, it's just one of those things like the NBA. He's a good NBA team, but you just know that there won't be good enough to get to the championship level. And that's what I think Cincinnati is. Not against Burrough, just like the organization. I just don't think that they'll get back there again. Joe Burrough is going to be great, but the Bengals will not. Fair? Boy, there's a lot of talent on that roster. Geez. Crazy. Don't be surprised if I'm going to cheat a little bit. Don't be surprised if the Bengals are very good. Joe Burrough through the first two weeks of the season in his first five years. What do you think his record is? How about one and eight? This is what they always do, even the year they went to the Super Bowl. They lose games early, first two weeks of the season. They are historically awful under Joe Burrough routinely starts low. It's old school Patriots. We got to figure out our team. We got to learn about ourselves, and then we'll take off in October. Don't be shocked if the Bengals have this week one stinker, week two might be bad also, and then turn it on. Yeah, so Shae, is at the Chiefs' next cap for the Bengals. It could be a good ball game. It could. They played well in that building. They have. They've won there. They also lost the AFC title game I was at in a tight one. They played well in the building. And then the commanders, and then the Panthers. Oh, God. Now you're back. Now you're back in the swing of things. You're two and two. Now you're back. Then the Ravens on the 6th of October. So there's a nice swing for the Bengals. They're interested. You can get the two and three now will be OK. Like, they should have beat the Patriots. I just don't understand. All right, Shae, don't be surprised if. No, speaking of the Patriots, Hody, don't be surprised. If that's the only game that they win all year, just do me a favor. Take a peek at their schedule. All right. Things do not lighten up for New England. They play in a brutal AFC East. They've got crossover games with the NFC West. Uh-oh, that means San Francisco's on the docket. They come here to Chicago. That's going to be tough. It sounds like Jacobi Brissette's going to be the full season starter. They're red-shirting Drake May. The offensive line is morbid. The defense is inflated in value a bit right now, because they caught sincey in a bad spot. There is precedent for this. It would not be the first time. Remember how the Jaguars got themselves Trevor Lawrence. They opened the season with a big win at home over Division rival, Indianapolis, 27-20. They went 1 and 15. So Shay, when I ask you in the draft, what do the Patriots need? It's pretty much everything, right? To upgrade, almost everything? They need an offensive tackle. They need a wide receiver. They need a defensive end after trading Matthew Judon. They could use a little help, I think, at linebacker. Secondaries are OK. They need everything. Seahawks, Jets, 49ers, the next three for the Patriots. Yikes. Jets for 1 and 3. And Jets and 49ers are on the road. Oh, gosh. Not good. I liked it. So that you didn't have room for a reaction Monday with that one with the Patriots? I was saving it for today. I felt good, like, don't be surprised. The Patriots just lose every game the rest of the way. Hoodie, it doesn't lighten up after that. They get the Dolphins, then they get the Texans, then they go on the road to the Jags. Jags again. On the road to the Titans, on the road to the Bears, Rams, Dolphins, Colts, Cardinals, Bills, Chargers, Bills. 3 and 14. Yeah, they aren't winning more than three games. And great. You got one in week one. That might be the only one. Shot or no shot. Who wins more games? Patriots or Colorado Buffalo, right? Wow. This is a total finish. Who wins more games the rest of their respective seasons? The Patriots or the White Sox? Ah, the Patriots. Here's Shane O'Rourke. Oh, god. It's a good bet, isn't it? It is. It's a really good bet. Here's Shane O'Rourke. This one hurts me to say, hoodie. What? Don't be surprised if Derek Carr isn't bad. Oh, you can't do that. Don't be surprised. I was doing some late reading Sunday morning before the games kicked off. And I stumble upon this analytics website. They're like, and these nerds and their fancy made up advanced metrics from last season rated Derek Carr as a top five quarterback in 2023. I laughed. I'm like, there's no shot. Nerd, your stupid metrics don't mean anything. Watch the film. And then I watched Derek Carr light up the New Orleans sky. And I thought, oh, no. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. What if he's not bad? No, no, no, don't do that. Again-- He's paid to be elite now. This is spillover from Monday, by the way. He didn't get to. This is what it is. You can't take a crap on the Saints all summer. They beat a terrible-- They score 47 points. I don't care. Maybe I got to take my medicine. No, no, no, no. You have to stick to your guns. You said the Saints could be awful. Did you not? You're not a Carr fan. No, I'm not. OK, they beat a terrible Panther team. Now, watch this cap. He says this about Carr now. They're taking on the Cowboys, Eagles, and Falcons next by by the Chiefs. Come on, everybody. Yeah, I think the Cowboys are going to teach them the meaning of the word respect. I'm not going to let you do that. Check back the first week of October. I want to tackle you in there. The hoodiest valuables digging my heels in and go insane. Suck worst team ever. You're right. Last year, I said the Ravens would be bad. I pivoted very quickly, and it was a valuable pivot for me. No, my Cowboys are good, man. I'm not going to let you do that, Shay. I'm not going to let you do-- I'm going to let you stick to your guns and be right about the Saints. They beat up a terrible-- they beat up a XFL team in the Panthers. And they're going to play the Cowboys, Eagles, Falcons, and Chiefs next. You'll see the real Derek Carr against those teams. Are you kidding me? They're still standing at the end of that. OK, we'll talk. Don't be surprised, if. You're going to like this one, hoodie. Don't be surprised if the Giants blow out their front office for the second time in three years. Joe Shane Bryan-Dable, Ruff Gullwan, hard knocks this summer. Everybody thought they looked like clowns. Then they go out and really look like clowns with the uniforms that fit the rule on Sunday against the Vikings. I like that jersey. Daniel Jones just lofting a ball to van Kinkle. Here you go, free touchdown. I like the jersey. That's terrible. I thought it was cool. They looked naked. They looked like the Montreal Canadiens. They did. So they looked-- They absolutely did. That's what they looked like. It's a good call. They'd be absolutely-- A terrible uniform. OK. Parable. 1920s. Who can'ts? They are bad, Cap. The Giants. Better beat the Washington Commander this week. Hey, Bears fans. You want to complain about the Bears in the offense? Be a Jetsor Giants fan. They've been as bad as we have been for years. I thought we had a bronze fan. God. Can I squeeze in one more hoodie? Permission? Don't be surprised if-- Because, Cap brought up the Browns. Don't be surprised if the Browns put a $235 million dent in their bench. You've got Sunday Cleveland fans for the entire duration of the game. The fans booing relentlessly to Sean Watson. You've got media across the country begging you. Dan Orlovsky went on ESPN yesterday. It's time to look at Jameson Winston. Got to bench this dude. He's telling them what to do. They can't cut or trade to Sean. But hey, another lawsuit. Check notes. That makes 28 sexual assault lawsuits against to Sean Watson. Dropped yesterday. Dude, I'm just telling you, it might be a lot of dead cap and it might be a lot of money to stick on your bench, but James gives you a better chance on Sundays. You said dropped. The suit wasn't dropped. The news dropped. No, yeah. The news dropped. Okay. Let me just be clear. Not track. For the just cut to Sean now crowd, dead cap if they cut him now, 119.9 million. They still would own 93.2 in cash, 2025 dead cap, 80.7. Oh my god. Albert Brewer, next on Cap and Jacob.
