Big D Energy Show
Big D Energy | Monday, September 9th, 2024
It's time for the type of energy, only Darren McCarty and Neil Rool can give. It's time for Big D Energy, live on Woodward Sports. Join four time Stanley Cup champion and legendary badass Darren McCarty, in the golden voice of Neil Rool, Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as they give their takes on all things Detroit Sports. Number one midday show in Detroit is on. Welcome to Big D Energy. A win is a win. That team gave us everything they had, man. They did. They threw it out as man and give them some credit. They did, man. They laid it on the line all the way. But the bottom line is, man, it's hard to break us now. It's hard to break us. As a matter of fact, you ain't going to do it. And we just had to buy our time, find our rhythm, defense. If we held Fox, what an outstanding freaking puck to help our defense. In offense, we do what we got to do to get an overtime. And then we win the toss, go off, nice job, we go all the way down. That's a damn good win. That's number one, we're 1-0 right now. I got two game balls. First one is this, man. You talking about closing out the game. And I said it the other day, somebody asked me, I said, man, you can start the game with this guy and you can finish it with him. And anything in between on offense, Dave Montgomery. Nah, nah, nah, we've done that fighting for a while, man, it was ugly for a little minute. Before the game being said, did it show nothing, it ain't going to be our best game, it ain't going to be the perfect game. But we finished it together as a team. Defense, man. This guy was all over the freaking field, man. Play after play after play in the past game, the run game, Alex Anselman. Hey, this is just one win. I look at it every year, I just look at it a quarter at a time, four games at a time. Let's go 3-1, 4-0 each quarter. It's a long-ass season, this is just one. Keep it going. All right. Damn good win, gentlemen. That's the good news when you don't play your best ball and you still find a way to win because we'll clean the rest of this up and we'll be better. I don't care whether we won or lost this game, I was going to tell you the same thing. We've got to get better every week, just a little bit better next week and we'll be good. All right. Great win, man. Great win, because it's the win in that field, right about it. Hey, wins are winning this league. They're hard to come back, especially against the good teams. Let's go. Line's all three. One, two, three. Line's! There it is. Five! Five! Yo, yo, yo. What's going on, buddy? Welcome back to another episode of Big D Energy. Right here in the Woodward Sports Network, my name is Neil Ruhl, flannel Sam in four DMACC. We got Spencer Raxter in the building after a long weekend run by him, Spenny. Yes. Hello. Hello. Some mileage put on this weekend. I love it. I love it. We got silent Mike in the sound booth in for KEG. Silent Mike, give the people what they want. Ah, there he is. He's a master, guys. He's an absolute master. Good to have silent Mike here. That's my guy. Shout out to him. He was an audio yesterday. And the Lions get the win, never a doubt, 20 in overtime against the Rams. And look, flannel, you were on the morning show. There's not a lot of ton new to report or anything like that. And we're going to get into it for sure, flannel. But hey, national football league, Lions win. That's it. Isn't it sometimes more satisfying to beat a team when you do without your fast? Well, that's the thing. If you're the Rams right now, you're probably kicking yourself for all of the missed opportunities. It almost feels better to feel like, not that you stole one, but that just imagine what the Lions are going to look like when they do play their a game and you saw a glimpse of it in overtime. And I know we're going to talk about that a lot as the game goes on, but it's a win in the national football league over a team that may end up being in the playoffs this year and it's hard to win in the NFL and you take those any day of the week and you never apologize. Absolutely. But I did want to take a couple minutes here in the open as we let everybody get into get into the show and the network's been exploding with viewership here. And I did want to say a big thank you to all of you that watch guys. We had tens of thousands of people that watched the pregame show, that watch the watch party, that watch the post game show, all of it. And you know, I took a look around at some of the flagship and the established sports stations around America as a matter of fact. And Woodward sports and what we do and what we pulled off yesterday and continue to pull off is incredible. As a bottom line is in the digital space, no one's doing it better. That's that's a fucking fact. That is a mathematically easily mathematically proven fact and the reason is that and we were talking about this before the show, you guys, you guys, the ones that are watching everything all the time, the ones that are interacting all the time and jump into that chat right now. If you're new and you haven't, you haven't tapped into Woodward sports or this is your first time or whatever, subscribe to the Wilbur Sports YouTube channel, get in there and get your thoughts. I'm going to read them. There's going to be too many messages to keep up with today as we know, but I'm going to get you guys involved. And I did want to say thank you guys because yesterday was unbelievable and you guys are why. So I just wanted to get that out in the open and just say that and say thank you for all the day ones, the people that continue to jump in and stuff like that. You guys are electric. And so thank you guys on that because flannel. It was insane. It was insane yesterday. Second best bar at the pregame show, shout out to New Holland and tell them or do Sabbath coffee roasters, all the people, it was there was nowhere to move inside second best sports bar yesterday. Silent Mike, you were there. Tell them about it. Great. Thanks. Okay. So it is, it is, it's, it was unbelievable. The second best people told me, we can't believe this and that you guys, it's absolutely you guys. So, so thank you guys. For real. I just wanted to get that out there because I feel like it's important because spending and I were talking about it, man, like you guys consume all of it all the time and you're always in here. So thank you for that. Wanted to get out there, but we are, we're, we're talking not quite wall the wall lions flannel. We're going to talk about the first place team in the Big Ten, the Michigan State Spartans. So there, there was another important football game that happened in the state of Michigan this weekend because I don't remember personally, I'm kidding, obviously, but today we're going to talk about it. Oh, I'm sure we will. We're not going to do that soft ass shit that you guys do on wake up Woodward and just pretended didn't have, I'm not pretending with the Michigan man, Matt. Now Matthew Broder, yourself, who married your wife for Michigan football season tickets that her dad had, we're going to get into that, but that, but we're going to start it all off, obviously with the lion stuff. And usually like we do the ha, ha, he, he, none of that we're getting right into it. One funky lion's fans, Neil Assam, who was more responsible for that lion's win, Jamison Williams or Aidan Hutchinson? I think they were both about equally responsible. If I had to choose, I'd say Jable. Okay. I'll chat himself a game as well. All right. Um, indigenous ways. Let me know when we start talking Michigan football. We will in the second hour. We'll get it. It deserves a segment. I would think. Um, but we will, um, we're sports, Chad, the red quality gaming Michigan state sucks, bro. Like really sucks. Unfortunately. So does Michigan. So, so there's that. 10. Yep. Um, Chuck Brewer. Of course Neil will talk about a loss after skipping all the wins last year on brand. We talked about every game every week last year. Kind of hard to do a show in this business during football season without talking about, but the lions are the topic. The lions get the win and like, look, here's the deal, everybody were the lions were the lions elite. No, they were at the end, but were did they, did they have a good game? No. Did they have their fastball? No, I had some reflection about the game as a whole though. And I really enjoyed my time with you two on the watch part. That was my first watch party that I ever participated in. They're fun, man. They, they, it was absolutely fun. I really, really enjoyed it, but I had some reflection last night driving home from all the festivities and shout out, Hey, social, by the way, for their hospitality. Um, but yeah, Mike G, can we talk Oakland football next Oakland, Michigan state tonight, ESPN plus on soccer. I'll be on the call. So there you go. There we'll talk some football. No, but anyway, though, for me, flannel, because, and I see this kind of message here from cat spot who is, who is back. Welcome back. Cat spot. We haven't seen you in a while. Beat the case. Yeah. Uh, it's not one game. The lions had no pass rush all last year. Stafford threw 50 times and Detroit had one sack before the final play of the game. And cat spot, here's what I want to talk about with that because I knew, I knew there'd be people like you and at first glimpse flannel, you want to say, oh, they, they didn't play all that well defensively. They played an overtime game. They gave up 20 points in an NFL contest. Did they have one sack? Yeah, they had one sec, but it took, it took John 50 pass attempts to get to 300 yards flannel. Those are elite numbers defensively. They are elite. They're not good. That is elite flannel elite 20 points a game would have put, put, put you at a top 10 scoring defense last year. I'm just saying, if you score, if you hold the Rams to 20 points, you expect to win that game a hundred times out of 100 and the lions did just that. Of course they didn't have their fastball, but at the end of the day, when we're talking about the defense, when we're talking about the past defense, the only really egregious one was the one that they led up to Tyler Johnson, where Carlton Davis and Brian branch over pursued a little bit, Tyler Johnson stopped on a dime, ran it for a 66 yard catch and run. Other than that, it was just a lot of nickeling and diming it down the field. And as we're going to continue to discuss as the show goes on, the Rams had a lot of empty trips close to the goal line in the red zone, some empty and some with three. And that's it. Like Elgato couldn't get a sack. It gets back up offensive line. Hey Elgato, man, it's almost like Sean McVay knew that their offensive line was going to be a kind of a liability with the game plan that they had in place. That was X. You know what? Guys, again, I know and we're going to talk about J-mo. We are I'm pins and needles you are. We're going to talk about them, but but I think that this defense is is way undersold for last night's performance. Did it did it? Did it get home? Did the pass rush get home? No. And this is one of those times flannel where with the with the if you keep it in context with what the Rams wanted to do in the game, I think the Lions played about perfectly. They popped him on a play. This is the NFL, man. Every team pops a play. Yeah. And for the Carolina Panther, well, yeah, they they didn't they didn't pop anything. And neither did the bears on offense. More on that later, by the way, but no to piggyback off of what you said. Cooper cup is a dominant slot receiver. Sean McVay wanted to scheme it so that Matt Stafford just had to drop back quick drop back quick throw. Cooper cup was usually open. He hit some two to Demarcus Robinson, Puke Nakua when he was healthy Colby Parkinson. I but at the end of the day, I still think the pass rush bothered Matthew Stafford more than people give it credit for. They hit him 12 times, 12 times. Remember him twice. And I know we're going to talk about the Kirby Joseph interception more later, but one of the reasons that was made possible is because Marcus Davenport and Aiden Hutchinson were about to meet at Matthew Stafford, which forced him to throw off his back foot, which no zip on the ball right into the weight, waiting hands of Kirby Joseph. So the defense for the most part, it wasn't perfect, but 20 points is 20 points. Any way you slice it with this offense, 20, I would take that any day of the week. And guess what? If this defense holds teams at 20 points, lions are going to win all the football. They didn't win a lot of games. They didn't even have the fastball last night offensively. No, they didn't have it. It was impressive. It was impressive to watch and it's 100% Sean McVay knew that they weren't going to have a lot of time to sit back there and allow these intricate deep routes to happen because the lines pass rush was going to get there. So they were taking a lot of five yard outs. They were taking a lot of motion swing routes and it's hard to get home when the ball's out of his hand in a second. So they got there twice. Like flannel said, even when they didn't get the sex, they forced a couple errand throws out of Stafford. He had that one ridiculous throw at the end of the game where he's falling backwards and still put it on the money and Chris Collins worth. That might be the greatest throw of the year. But the Lions defense did what they had to completely took Karen Williams in the run game out of equation, which is what they do. And guys, it all came back to this and for those of you that watched the pregame show yesterday, Spenny, I know I'm going to try not to lean on you too much here, but the bottom line is this. When it comes to the run game, the defensive line pushes people this way and the offensive line pushes people that way. Yeah, that way. That's it. Like flannel. I thought this was Sean Belizean yesterday at second best bar. We get lost in the sauce, even with the Jamo stuff with the Jerigolf stuff with the Yaman Ross St. Brown, the Laporta stuff, the John Stafford stuff, the Pukanakua, all of it. We forgot. We lost our way. When it all came down to it defensively, that's what they did. And then offensively, it was a non-negotiable in overtime. The Rams were powerless to stop it powerless when it became big boy football. The lions were the bigger boys. Period. It was an absolute masterclass in terms of running the football in terms of dominating the line. They didn't even play well. No, they didn't even play well, flannel. Wait till they play well. If you're the Rams, you're kicking yourself right now. And that makes me feel even better as a lion's fan, that they felt like they let one slip away. It's how many times as lions fans over the years, did we have games like that? It's nice to hand other teams that kind of fate. No, absolutely. And look, here's what we're going to do. I want to try to stay on the clock somewhat. I did want to give a shout out to my guy Tyree. Friday I had to fly down to Florida to do the Detroit City FC broadcast. Tyree was on the airport shuttle with me. And he was like, "Man, I rock with woodwork." So Tyree, shout out to you, the bouncer, and I forgot his name, and that's on me. The doorman, the bouncer, over at second best. I walked in there. He was like, "I ride with you guys. I rock with you guys on woodwork now." Shout out to, well, first of all, shout out to my brother and my new sister-in-law Cole and Margie. They got married this weekend. That was a lot of fun. Shout out to Raxter. Family. Raxter, family. Out and about. We're in, you know, moving as a unit. Shout out to Jake, who works at English Inn, which is the place in Lansing that we're there. He rocks with us. He's telling me he's a bartender there. It was. The doorman at second best, my apologies, I did forget your name, but I'm glad you rock with woodwork because he's about 6 foot 7, pushing 280. You don't want what he has to offer. That's for sure. If the lions have any offensive line injuries, go get my guy from second best bar. Let's just say it like that. I do want what they have to offer a disbo, though. That's for sure. Oh, absolutely. And how would you like $10 of free products from Dispo Dispensary? Woodward Sports.com has a lot of you have visited over the past couple weeks and months with the very best Detroit sports wearables in the game. You know, we got all the Campbell homes, baseball, football, basketball, hockey. There's a Woodward sports golf line as well. You guys were putting in work with the boot and kid shirts. Let's just say it like that. Shopped out. Woodward Sports.com and we got some more people that were sending in the pictures of themselves in the boot and kid shirt. And there you have it right there. There's my guy Fred as a matter of fact. He was rocking the boot and kid shirt. So a shot out to you. Just sitting at home, chilling in the boot and kid shirt. Yeah. Absolutely. But yeah. There's a couple of eight social last night. Yes. There was. Yes. There was. No, it was. It was a movement. Marvin Strong. It was Terry and Arnold's first game. I expect rookie mistakes. I only expect improvement as well. And flannel, that's what, because we're talking about the defense and we got time to get to JMO and we got time to get to David Montgomery. But the more I thought about it, that was a defensive masterclass in today's NFL by the Detroit Lions. Yes. Mr. Davenport. Yep. I like. Oh, yeah. I like. He looked like 2021 Marcus Davenport. When we talk about the 12 times that Matthew Stafford got hit, Marcus Davenport gave you four, eight and a hundreds and gave you four. To me, that sounds like a pretty good book and edge rusher duo. And if Marcus Davenport can stay healthy, that might have been one of the more impactful signings of the entire off season. Based off of that one game, I liked what I saw. And that man is an absolute mountain out there. He looks like an interior defensive tackle, but he's got the skill set of an edge rusher. When he's healthy, he's had some really good seasons in the league man. And hopefully this is the year where he gets back to that. No. And I think the cornerback edition showed out pretty well to me was very good. And again, defensively, and look, Terry and Arnold is a rookie in this game. It was the concern I had when you show up day one, and then all of a sudden you're locked. Hey, Rook, go check Cooper Cup. Maybe the best route runner in the NFL, probably the best route runner in the NFL. And oh, by the way, Nick, who is going to be out? So he's the only option that they have and Stafford's going to throw it to him 78 times in the game. And look, were there, were there rookie moments? Yep. Were there, was there always going to be rookie moments? Yep. And I said this yesterday and I will say this as well. The Terry and Arnold we saw today will not be the Terry and Arnold we see on October 15, will not be the Terry and Arnold we see on November 15, December 15, January 15, and hopefully the beginning of February as well. Absolutely. And we saw we saw Cooper Cup get him a couple of times because he gets most of everybody. But the reality is, is that when you look at Cooper Cup's stat line, yeah, he went off in some ways. But I saw 14 catches for 110 yards with a touchdown. That's fine. You'll take that. That's like John Stafford's stat line that everybody was drooling over on TV last night. It took you 50 passes to get to 300 yards, 50. And that was inflated by a 66 yarder. Right. There were quite a few where it was like zero yards, two yards, minus one, five. That was a lot of the game, like nickeling and diming and sometimes not even nickeling and diming, penning and nickeling and diming. The other, the other angle, the other angle I want to talk about that I haven't heard a lot of people talk about and Teddy fresh does a great transition in the chat thread. Do people understand how disrespectful it is to run the ball pushing a man against their will? Coaches hate that it's one game, but I think that the lions will be fine and Teddy in that over time, we, and we rightfully show rightfully so, we talk about David Montgomery, who was a pinball. He's, he's a diminutive wrecking ball. But don't think for a second that Penisua wasn't out there taking it personal. No one discussed this. Did you see the play before they got into the end zone to end the game? Penisua pushed an entire pile of people. You remember this? Like they got, they got settled in about the five yard line. A little rugby scrum. Penisua came in single handedly and pushed a pile of people three yards. Yes. That's a, and it got to the one yard line. And if you're at the one yard line and you're the lion's offensive line and David Montgomery, that's pretty much cash money. It's not cash money on the Rams side of the ball. Hey, will I get to that maybe a little bit later, but that, as I said before, the running, the running game in overtime was an absolute masterclass. You started out the first four plays were Raymond on an end around for 12, money for 21, money for nine and a Gibbs catch and a swing pass for 10. And then you're at the 18. And at that point, the Rams are demoralized. They've been blown off the ball. They know what's coming and they still can't stop that nobody in this room doubted that they were going to punch it in. And you said it before on that one money run to take it to the one. It looked like he was stopped up at about the five, but Penisua and that entire offensive line, they just would not let David Montgomery go down. For a second, I'm like, is he actually going to score on this? That would have been super epic, but just as epic enough money punches it in from the one as we all knew he would. We all knew he would. Yeah. And on that touchdown run to win the game, the two guys you see moving people around are the two guys who are going to be first team, all pros in the lines, offensive line. Frank Ragnow takes Kobe Turner and puts him under the end zone. Like he shoves him in Atlanta dirt, plenty of tools got Byron Young, I think, or someone else. Five yards out of the out of the picture, like those are your two hogs just moving people around wide open walk in touchdown for them. And that's it. Yeah. And again, that is a non-negotiable with this team. It is not up to the Rams. It's not up to anybody in this league. When they go down and they're going to run the football, period, end of story. And look, I love that the Rechster clan was out at Hayes Social yesterday. I love watching a game with your father, Danny Rechter in the building. Danny Rechter is old school. Yes. And I say this as a compliment, ton of respect for that, dude. Civil servant, his entire career served his country. Yep. He's seen things. Yes. He's been through a lot more than I've been through, which is why he drinks scotch and I drink bourbon. I freely admit that. I will say this though. Danny Rechter does not like the fourth and two. No. He's not comfortable with it. He does not. He doesn't like it. And that's fine. He's a product of his environment. I'm not going to judge Danny Rechter for that. He just wants them to run it on third down. But that's not the way this works. That's not the way this works. You keep that in your back pocket. Fourth and two, this team will get the first down. They are running behind Panay Sewell. And it's a wrap. And I just, I want to bring that up because I haven't heard a lot of people. And I hate that. I hate that Panay Sewell. And I understand that it's the nature of the position. The offensive tackle isn't going to be charged in 150 bucks at an autograph signing. They're just not. They don't get the, they don't get the us commercials. They don't get all the acclaim. But make no mistake, Panay Sewell, he's up there in the pantheon, a most valuable lion's ever, ever, ever flannel. Okay. And I know, and I know you don't want it. I can see your gears turning right there. The gears are shifting. I'm thinking the real time. Yeah. I can see that it bothers you and it makes you uncomfortable. But that is the reality of the situation. He'll never win MVP. He'll never win MVP. But he's the best player in the league. And it never gets talked about. And I know that Chris Collingsworth is busy glazing John Stafford the whole time for his six yards per pass attempt that he got. Oh, I know he's so great, John. I know that you in the chat. You're some mad Stafford disrespect in this chat for real on Tony Tony. You're all some Stafford haters. And it's sad. Fuck him. Oh, great six yards in attempt yesterday, John. Yeah, I hate anybody who is playing against the lions. I don't care if you were Jesus Christ himself. If you are the opposing quarterback against the Detroit Lions, I'm going to hate on you. I'm going to boo you. I'm going to want you to do bad. Get over it. Stafford's not going to let you hit, bro. It's fair. Well said. Yeah. He may. Hey, welcome stick to the show. Stick is here in the house. I mean, he might. Sit in his chair a while. I had to wait to shoot my shot. No, absolutely. The Stafford thing. After last night, it's over, right? 100% never going to see the X again. It's over. We've moved on to a better life. We've proven it in the last five months, twice, million percent. Dude choked again on Fordfield turf, which he always choked on Fordfield turf. He choked again against anything Honolulu blue in the playoffs, which anytime Honolulu blue and playoffs is associated with Matt Stafford, he lost. Dude doesn't have a winning record in the playoffs, even though he does have a Super Bowl. Guess what? It's over. Goodbye. It doesn't have a winning record against the Lions either. Didn't have a winning record for the Lions didn't have a winning record against the Lions. So that's it. And you're right. Stick, you're right. And I've kind of led the campaign of this anti golf thing in this town, I feel under the anti-staff. The Stanford movement in town here. No, that was easy. That led the anti-golf campaign. Oh, yeah. Easy. Easy. Easy's got it worse than flannel this week. He does. But either way, no, I know what you're saying, like, it's been the narrative, right? Because we had all off season, the NFL set it up like they did. This is going to be the match up. You're going to face each other again, you know, when they walked out and face each other for that coin flip yesterday, it couldn't have been a more poetic moment. The former quarterback of the Rams, the former quarterback of the Lions meeting at the 50 yard line. And of course, Stafford even chokes at the fucking coin flip, you know, of course he lost the coin, but that's like, to me, it was just like it put a ball on the whole Stafford story. We're going to talk about it a little today, but after today, I don't even think we ever have to mention the dude, Kelly, the kids, or anything again. It's over. I'm with you. Like it like it's dead. They took Stafford out to the woodshed and they put him down and they put him down the old Yeller's down, no, it ain't coming back. That is it. That is it. ETN, Stafford. I'll play golf twice in a row. Let me see. Oh, oh, and two. I was even going to do that. I was even going to do that. All I know is this all I know is this every time Stafford through the ball, you got about 6.8 yards every time golf through the ball, you got over seven. That's all I know. That's all I know. You got more yards every time. But if you put Stafford in this offense, I can only go by what I know, what is mathematical fact. Yeah. I mean, to be fair, golf didn't have his best game either, but at the same time, the best part about that whole overtime is they did win the coin toss and they made sure through their running game, pen a soul, David Montgomery and company that Stafford never got the ball. It was made moot by this dominant offensive line of this dominant run game. Also, Stafford had the ball with four minutes left and what's a very important part of sealing off any game, any NFL team, they practice it through the week, our four minute offense. We need to be able to run this ball. We need to be able to run the clock. Stafford couldn't get it done in those four minutes, gave the ball back to J.G. I never got it back again, never, never touched it again. It was just, it's perfect. It was the way it was supposed to be after you almost threw an interception at the end of the game. So at the end of regulation, Carlton Davis could have made it so that the Lions had a chance to win that in regulation. It doesn't matter, but man, yeah, nice drop pick there. That's okay. You start a good game. Very good game. Very good game. Yeah. All right. Let's take, let's take a break. Colin Brewing Company Lions pregame show and really your game day Sunday because it all starts from 8 to 9 a.m. with Matthew with Matthew Broder and Terry Foster for Woodward and Maine. In for four-time Stanley Cup champion, he is the man himself, flannel Sam. Don't worry. We're going to get to the JMO thing. Stick is sitting in. Why not? It's absolutely why. I was sitting out there just watching and listening. I'm like, I just jump in. Yeah. It's a victory Monday. It's a victory Monday. I was going to boot flannel from the show altogether, you know, since he already had his shot in the morning show. I was like, I need to get my opinion out there. You do. No, absolutely. Great work yesterday on the Lions post game show, which had so fun. Thousands of you watching at like 2 AM on a Sunday, on a Sunday night before work. What do you people do for a living? Like, don't you work thousands of people for all the new people here. We appreciate you tapping into World Sports Network, Spencer Raxters in the building. Hello. Heavyweights, five to seven. Shout out. Shout out the heavyweight. Silent Mike is here. Aren't you silent, Mike? Exactly. There you go. It's a well-earned nickname, everybody. Silent Mike. It will get silent Mike's take on some stuff later. What a week for KG to take off, right? Like respect to KG, appreciate all the hard work. But week one of Lions season, you're not going to be here for Victory Monday. That's tough. And it's tough. When I was like, I'm doing all the shows. Now, it's, it's, it's all right. KG, if you were here, you would have shined today and you're going to shine in a later week. Yeah. We're not sure. Plenty of Victory Mondays to celebrate, but yeah. But you had all summer. Yeah. Yeah. For sure. Yeah, the off season. All right. Um, Robert Colosia. And look, guys, I do this here. I include the chat on this show. Hell, you guys program the show sometimes. And I can tell by what you're talking about here, we didn't have this on the show sheet. I never thought about it. But flannel, we're a show of the people. Absolutely. We don't get all the bells and whistles that some of the other shows do. But guess what? We don't need them. We got the people. And that's how we roll. Uh, Robert Colosia, Neil, can we talk about the game tying drive? Everybody's ignored. We're golf stepped up on that. Oh, I'm Finsta and we're going to right now because it dovetails nicely into, um, our guy ETN who says anybody who watched that game and thinks golf is better was better than Stafford is smoking crack. And so here, here's the thing that I want to come back to on this because let's discuss it. Did God dig off play well by golf standards last night? He did not. You know who'd be the first one to tell you that himself? Jared golf will be the first one to tell you that. But here's where I know. Here's where I know for me and for a lot of people, a Stafford thing is over. When he got the ball back, there was, there was never a doubt for me. Never when he got this, there was a seminal moment last night, even through last season and what he's done since he's been here, I never for a second thought when Jared golf got the ball back at the end that they weren't going to win, that he wasn't going to take him down the field and at least get the game tied at the very least get the game tied extend the game. Not for a second flannel. Did I think he wasn't going to get that? And that is a big moment here in this town. And if you did, if you did have doubt about that, then then you're being a hater. I don't know what else to tell you. Well, into piggyback off of that, I had no doubt that when the Rams had the ball up 20 to 17 that the Lions would make the stop and they would get the ball back to allow said game tying drive. And it's funny how it works because the Lions had just blown a 17 to three lead. It wasn't looking good at that at that moment. Jared golf did throw an uncharacteristic interception that, like I said, a 17 to three lead all of a sudden turns into a 20 to 17 deficit. The Rams have the ball. It's looking pretty bleak. They even pick up a first down, but the way that this defense, even last year when they were poor in a lot of ways and even this year when they allowed a lot of passing yards, they always tend to get the timely stop. And of course, when they get the ball back, yeah, I had full confidence. Jared golf stepped up and made an excellent throw to Sam Laporta, which was aided by a 15 yard penalty. And all of a sudden your right smack dab in the middle of field goal range. And at that point, I thought they might score a go ahead touchdown, but all they needed to do was extend the game, take it to overtime and never let the Rams get the ball back. And that is exactly what they did. But that was a great throw by golf to Sam Laporta. Great route by Laporta too. No, and it was. And again, they just punched them in the face and took their lunch money at the end of that football game. And that's what it was. So, you know, just just from just from that standpoint for me is never for a second. Like it wasn't even it wasn't even a question to me that he that he wasn't going to get it done. I never even considered that outcome. Yep. Never even considered. And that's what multiple years of really good quarterback play will do earn. You earn the trust of the fans and usually Jared Goff gets the job done. And like I said before, usually not all the time the defense gets the timely stop or allows the timely field goal instead of touchdown to keep the Lions in the game. And you saw that as well. And you saw Jared Goff despite having a stretch where it was looking a little rough despite the fact that he was facing more pressure than I thought that he would. I thought the past protection had some struggles when it was time to go down and tie the game. They got the drive. Jared Goff made the throw. They were helped out by a by a penalty, of course, but you still had to get the 18 yard throw in order to get said penalty and you and they still wouldn't they still to kick the game tying field goal even if there wasn't a helmet down and even the interception that he threw that's a pass that is completed 70% of the time. I'm in Ross Saint Brown. It was a hell of a play. It was a 50/50 ball. I'm in Ross Saint Brown lost the air battle for it. They both collided at the same time, but we've seen that for the past two years. How many times does he squeeze that ball in that tight window to I'm in Ross Saint Brown? Like so even that interception to me wasn't like an egregious. Oh my God. He misread the coverage like Stafford's interception where you see the safety over the middle just freelancing and he's just like, you know what screw it. There you go Kirby Joseph, like, so when golf made a mistake, it was even a an aggressive understandable mistake. Well, in the piggyback off of that, I was shocked that John Johnson the third had that in him. That was a hell of a break. That was a hell of a catch to hold onto that ball and I think I talked maybe a little bit of smack on the watch party, how John Johnson the third is. It's not 2018 anymore. I don't fear him at all and he made a hell of a play. Sometimes that's just how it how it works in life. But you know what? We can accentuate the positives because the Lions got the victory and I'm simping for golf. Yeah. I'm the biggest golf simp there is and all it's done is prove me to be smarter than everybody who's doubted him. It's not simping like it's dealing in fact. But to these morons who want to convince me that he's not good here, it's simping. Here's the bottom line. Where golf has taken you as a Lions fans to hide you have never been in your life before to the point where it was expected for them to win that football game. That's the biggest compliment that I can give Jared golf right now. Super bowl expectations. No, no, and that's it. That's it. Like, that's the highest compliment I can give that us as Lions fans. We have expectations expected to win the football game and then went and did it despite what the Rams wanted. It did not matter what they wanted. It doesn't matter. And you kept saying that while we were watching it doesn't matter that you know we're going to run the ball. Doesn't matter. We're going to run the ball and they want to away from it. It seemed like in the middle of the game for some reason like it was just like, all right, we're done punching these guys so hard. They saved it for overtime. But when you see guys like what's Travis Kelsey's brother Jason, Jason Kelsey, when you see his tweets like my God, that last drive, I'm going to be up till 4 a.m. my adrenaline is pumping. Like Neil, you know, you're a professional game caller, right? You do it for Oakland. When you hear an incredible call, it gets you fired up because that's your craft. Usually. When Jason Kelsey sees an offensive line dominate to that level where he's going out to the public and being like, I am jacked up. It shows you that it's beyond simps like me thinking it's good. It's the guys that are Hall of Famers watching this and saying, damn, that is what football is supposed to be. And it's here in Detroit. Nope. Absolutely. Steve O'Baby. You may be baiting me here, Steve. Neil, did you hear the Lions fans giving Matthew Stafford a standing ovation before the game? Is that true? It was mixed. They were cutting through the cameras and be like, one guy standing oplaud and go to the next guy and be like, it was a mix, I'd say. I'll tell you what, he didn't feel comfortable there when game time started. There were a couple of fall starts. He didn't look comfortable in the post game either. No, he looks salty, bro. The funny thing is too, and I know we talked about it a bit before the show, Matthew Stafford has never been one to thrive in that environment. He was the king of Um for so many years, but when he's facing opposition, when Detroit is now opposition media, he hasn't exactly, he hasn't exactly carried himself and presented himself in the most flattering light. I'll just say that. It's not for everybody. Public speaking is not for everybody. And Matthew Stafford is one of those, one of those people. All right. We do got to go to break. We'll be right back with more lines coverage. Tell us about Lady James. Absolutely. Lady James. You actually have a haircut scheduled for today right after the show and the John Stafford look going? No. No, certainly not. You're the Jared Goff look. You're winner. I would rather have that look. Of course. And awesome is when a guy can be a guy and get an amazing haircut. Perhaps you're familiar with him. 4x Stanley Cup champion. We have Spencer Raxter of Woodward Heavyweights fame. 5-7 tapped in. Shut up. Him and easy as a matter of fact. We got silent Mike in the building though. You would never know it. You would because the audio sounds good. That is true. So you know silent Mike's in the building. That is true. That is absolutely true. How you doing silent Mike? You were? Saturday at 2nd best. Elite. He's being silent right now. I like it. He's on brand man. He knows what works. He knows what works. That was elite by him. He didn't turn his mic on on purpose. That is an elite move by silent Mike. And the answer was just confirmation. You were out there. Yeah it was. All right. All right. Stick is in the building by the way. You go to bed last night or not. I didn't. I mean it took me an hour to get home from the bar. Like I slept for a couple hours. But I rewatched the game last night when I got home because I'm a sicko like that. And it just, you know these games they just do it for me Neil. And I was talking to Anson when we were at the watch party like nothing in life gets my heart going like Detroit Lions football. Nothing in life gets my palm sweating. Gets me jumping out of my chair. Not college. Not basketball. Only when the Pistons were really good no for like I was all in but I every play I am so engaged into what's going on. And that's been for real. Yeah. That's been forever. Like even when they sucked. I would show up and serve my time. Yeah. From one to four I would punch in. I would put my hat. I put the hair net on and go wash the dishes. I would like to call it. Yep. It's just it's amazing that we're here. And just the juxtaposition of the Rams versus the Lions like to kick off the season with that. And you know like we we talk about Matthew Stafford a lot. L.A. never talks about golf. Do you think they're having the same conversations in L.A. I mean they have to have fans for people to actually care first and they don't in L.A. nobody gives a damn about like when they want a Super Bowl that I think like four people showed up to the parade like legit couple hundred people. It was awful. That's why I don't deserve Super Bowls. All right. And a wee of dance around this long enough Jamison Williams five catches hundred twenty one yards a tuddy dare I say maybe outside of pen a stool the best football player in the building last night following his last game at San Francisco where he was oh yeah the best football player in the building in that game as well flannel here's your opportunity to address the good people of Detroit and judging by our viewership numbers the rest of the world. Stand before us right now Sam flannel and make your apology rise up and put your hand up and say I Sam flannel was woefully wrong about Jamison Williams. I guess it comes down to this imagine calling this man a bust. Imagine it. All right well I'm not going to go that far but I have a lot of crow to eat today and I know the last person who you who you the people want to hear this from is me because you know you have every right to say that I'm a flip flopper and all of that because yeah if you want to say who was the a one J mo hater and all of Detroit sports media it was under percent me it was and I'm not going to run I'm not going to deny that. So what I'm about to say is that Jamison Williams was the best player on the field yesterday. He was the offensive MVP for the Detroit Lions in both regular regulation touchdown drives they were J mo drives. I mean one of them was obviously a J mo drive is it was a 56 yarder and 52 of them were on the bomb to oh boy here we go we're on the bomb to Jamison Williams in which he absolutely bit tredavious white which was a pretty nice to see and then on the one before right after the Lions had stopped that big fourth down. The very first completion which was that big play that we were kind of suspecting might happen from either one of the teams was a 36 yarder over the middle to Jamison Williams catch and run followed by an end around Jamison Williams dominated that game from start to finish and I'm I'll admit it. I undersold what I thought he was going to bring to this team. That is not good enough flannel I want you to get down on your knees and apologize then I want you to go to McDonald and get a quarter pound of a cheese and put a McFlurry on top of it. That's what I want you to do. I know probably like it but it's good. That's what you need to do. That's what you need to do. I mean let's I'm not going to do that quite yet if this performance was indicative of things to come which I suspect it probably will be I'll be eating crow for the rest of my life because I've kind of backed myself into a corner and this is something that me and stick have talked about. I will never be able to praise that man as long as I live and I know that. I know that. All right. All right. I'm living in it right now. Aren't you happy to be wrong in this case? Absolutely. Like is it this the best thing to be wrong about? Yeah. That the Lions have an absolute weapon and that's and that's where if I came on here and said even something jokingly nit picky I would be being dishonest am I supposed to double and triple down and say oh that one where he didn't turn up field. That was such a bad play. It doesn't matter. He was the catalyst for both it was but he was also the catalyst for both regulation touchdown drives. They were Jmo drives. Can you say I'm not a hater no more I've been delivered. I'm not a hater no more. I've been delivered because honestly no more because honestly watching watching him just towards tradavious white it was awesome. I loved watching it. I was somebody who kind of once I knew that Darius Williams was out it's like tradavious white is your healthiest best corner guy who's missed 30 games the last three years a guy who is getting up there in age hasn't been good since 2020 yikes and Jamison Williams made him look absolutely silly absolutely silly and it was glorious to watch it was so bad that tradavious white actually picked up a penalty he tried to grab them and that didn't even work he would have been better to just try to throw Jamison Williams down but I don't think he could have grabbed onto him because Jamison Williams was so fast. In the chat Mike Hilton who spells his name like Hylton so we'll just say it's Mike Hylton by the way it's spelled says love you Sam you need to see more and we did a Mackie really rough day for everyone who was hoping the lines were crumble last night so they could scream that they were quote right about this team being no different I feel for those people today yeah imagine imagine those kinds of people um question in the chat is Sam running for office with that Apollo it did sound very political didn't it really did I didn't feel it I don't soul I saw it last night I saw it building like I saw it and I love I love this for Jamison Williams he put in the work man he's been working his ass off all off season you've been hearing the hype in the preseason oh Jmo's been looking electric and we saw it we saw it at the end of the year last year we saw it here this year the kids ready to to be that guy ready to be an elite player in the NFL and he said yesterday after the game like that's not going to be his best game that's not going to be the best game it won't be his best game this month I would agree with that this week what's the next seven days Lionel got a question for you in all seriousness okay okay keep the keep the camera on flannel should we have signed jujus miss shooster I mean he had a big game he tore it up for them and the lions clearly can't push the ball down field without him well let's uh let's let's see if there's an injury let's see if there's an injury but no honestly I think uh Tim Patrick Allen Robinson and DPJ like say Mary's Alan Robinson by the way yeah our our insurance enough especially Tim Patrick I think he's the one that is next on the active roster but you know what as long as they're healthy with what they have especially seeing what you saw from Jamison Williams last night which was his best game as a pro when you when you include Sam Laporta Khalif Raymond who didn't get a catch but an end around Jameer Gibbs elite don't feel blocking by Tom Kennedy as well say it say it he was maybe the 15th most important offensive player in that game for the lion on that play for the totality of the game that's not paid that's not well he doesn't play defense too he's only out there half I said I said I said he was only out there 40% of the time because the Rams had the ball for 60% of the time I listen Josh Reynolds time will tell I hate to I mean not when to Patrick comes up here yeah because what I miss Josh Reynolds on was that ball to Laporta in the back of the end zone that they missed the touchdown on that kid next point those were prime Josh Reynolds yeah areas the red zone the short downs stuff like that Tim Patrick will be your guy in the end zone once he gets here if he's healthy yeah time will tell if you really miss Josh Reynolds but I think I like our bevy of practice squad receivers like Tim Patrick Allen Robinson not other people's Jones what you like St. Mary's Allen those are guys yeah but those are guys they can make plays if they get you know they're their ticket called so octopus in the chat I haven't seen him before but I appreciate you tapping in the show octopus there's so many of you weasels hiding in this chat Jmo haters and non-believers hey octopus there's one right on your screen right now and hey here's a hint it ain't me it ain't me I could tell by your shirt deal but you know what it's a good day to wear that shirt like I said best game as a pro offense of MVP and we we you kind of mentioned it with with Josh Reynolds and everything and do we miss him if if there was one area that wasn't quite as proficient as you thought it's maybe the middle of the field short and intermediate but at the same time as you often said Neil this is an offense that has an array of weapons I'm in Ross St. Brown in terms of his stat line had one of his least productive games of his career that's an elite transition yes all right that's where I was going next all right because again you guys programmed the show there was something that kind of popped me and I think that you know I like to do this from time to time I have to prepare the people for things sure and there's a segment of you out there that I feel like I have to prepare some things for and that's where I wanted to go next all right so I'm happy you brought that up it works sports all right keeping a push in our number two already our number two already victory Monday we're added here big D energy Woodward sports network Detroit's number one sports network it's mathematically verifiable by the way my name is Neil rule Sam flannel is in for former Red Wings great Darren McCarty sticks hanging out of a post game show fame we have Spencer Raxter in the building one half of the Woodward heavyweight you can check them out at five to seven there they're a great show because you're going to get a little different flavor we call them sports entertainment yeah like but honestly when we're out pitching the heavyweights and trying to get the advertisers for them it's not a this is a hardcore sport show no there's a sports entertainment show you're going to be entertained that's a great way to put it yep that's the most politically correct way to put it absolutely going it's absolutely chaos it is it's not you know it's like people that thought the WWF was wrestling it wasn't real wrestling it was sports entertainment yeah that's that's what the heavyweights are so check them out five to seven silent mics in the building yes yeah easy guys take it down a couple not just silent Mike Jesus what are you doing to these people now all of you two in the world sports chat or if you're new subscribe to the Woodward sports YouTube channel jump into that chat and get your thoughts out there you guys have programmed the last two segments of the show and you don't even know it because here's here's where I'm going to go with it Benjamin foe says and I think I know who he's talking about here I don't care if they triple teamed him thirteen yards got to do better next week come on man which tells me one thing you don't know Benjamin foe is and I'm on Ross St Brown fantasy owner but guess what Benjamin foe and this this is my closer with the Jamison Williams discussion who by the way is everything that I thought he would be and I know people forgot that he got drafted with a torn ACL by the way twelfth overall after the lions traded up to get him so you knew the first year was a wash then he got suspended for something that you don't even get suspended for anymore and sat out six games and you know the Jamison people around that wanted to use that to fit their narrative they did but he is here on the scene and make no mistake about it so I do want to tell everybody this the Benjamin foes and the I'm on Ross St Brown fantasy owners remember this you got a taste of it last night there's a new kid on the block right now and his performance and his talent and his ceiling dictate that his touches will go up the targets will go up because here's a mathematical certainty about Jamison Williams about every eight times you get him the football you get a touchdown that's just the way that it works with the guy he's electric he can't be held down and yes guys some of his action is going to come at the cost of Amun Ross St Brown's targets and touches that's just the way it's going to be from here on out flannel your response well and it's it's a Jamison Williams thing but it's also just them having so many weapons that can hurt you on a day like yesterday for example as I mentioned before Amun Ross St Brown I'm not even going to say he had a bad game he just had a statistically unproductive game however Jamison Williams was an absolute superstar David Montgomery was an absolute superstar at least on a per-touch basis and that is really what carried the Lions offense throughout the game and really what carried them to a win there's going to be a game probably within the next few where Amun Ross St Brown pops off pops off for like nine for a buck 20 it's going to happen and the thing to that I like is that I don't think Amun Ross St Brown gives a damn no I think he's besides Jamison Williams himself I don't think anybody in the on the planet is more happy for Jamison Williams and Amun Ross St Brown he's just a team player he does what it takes to win and you're never going to have to worry about him complaining about not getting the ball and next week it could end up being Gibbs who pops off instead of Montgomery it could end up being Laporta although I think he had a pretty good game himself hell one of these weeks it may end up being Colif Raymond there's just so many ways that this Lions offense can beat you and now if Jamison Williams becomes a guy who consistently gets targets who consistently has 80 to 120 yard games other people's numbers are going to go down and like you said they compliment each other so well we saw it last year in the bucks game where Jamo gets the touchdown and that opened everything else up underneath if the defense next week they say oh shit this kid just lit up the defending Super Bowl champions we got to put more people to allocate to stop him we got to bring the safeties back a little bit that's going to open up the middle of the field and we'll allow Amun Ross St Brown to be Amun Ross St Brown and then if they try to recreate over that you hit Jamison Williams over the top on a deep ball it's how do you want it that's all the Lions offense is walking up the games this year how do you want it to pocket we can run the ball down your throat we can Matthew Stafford dink and dunk it down the field or we can hit Jamison Williams with explosive plays how do you want it we're going to put up 20 plus how do you want it and stick told me this is my time to try to sound cool so I call it the Tupac offense because it is how do you want it I thought I thought you sounded cool as hell man he'll drop in Tupac knowledge double disc well word sports chat thread uh Snorri says uh buddy was clinching his pillow with a death grip all night he's lying some people don't everyone believes you flat on just saying that there's camera evidence of me at least being at the game in your teeth and celebrating no I because there's there's camera evidence of that last year in the Tampa Bay game as well well I think that if you're really looking close you could maybe argue that I gritted my teeth a little bit but I can assure you I was a happy man I can assure you look at his smile man that's what it was right there come on that's genuine that's genuine no it was it was I mean how much I'll tell you what the biggest pop flannel got was when hutch made that sack and rightfully so you know wrapped up the game there regulation for sure huge play each play and you love to see it because he was getting he was getting the superstar treatment we can get into the defense after after break or something I mean we still got time here but yeah hutch was getting that superstar treatment where he was getting shipped he was getting held he was getting grabbed and he was still getting this effort they were getting the ball out so fast with the quick outs and stuff like that I was happy he finally got his his sack in the book there to end regulation no absolutely and we are we're gonna get to the we're gonna get to the defense in the next segment we still gotta go around the NFL also there was a game in Ann Arbor though some of you have tried to scrub it from your memory but there was a game in Ann Arbor it did happen the people who hate on mr. get right now are so ridiculous to me and you guys know I don't have a dog in the race I don't care but they lost to what could potentially be a national championship team with a Heisman quarterback like okay we know they definitely do not have a Heisman quarterback no they don't have a high quarterback they don't even have a high school quarterback no but we will ice men okay we will get going back to the distribution of the offense yesterday I always like to look at targets as well receptions are nice but targets are probably more important they're the pressures of the offense yeah it's indicative of how much they're going to you right obviously Jmo had nine targets yesterday nine if they are if they're gonna consistently give him nine targets he's gonna have explosive days and I'm in Ross St. Brown had six even though he only caught three of those passes so six targets probably needs around eight to ten every game to deliver like the traditional Amun Ross St. Brown so that goes more to what the Rams were trying to take away and they did it and it's okay that they did it because Gibbs also had six targets Laporta had five targets it's a balanced offensive attack I think it goes to that Jamison Williams and his ceiling in his talent commands that the target share goes up not it's not a nice option to have it's not that yeah it you have to have him involved in the football I'm with you but I don't think the Rams realize that till today right because the way they use Jmo yesterday was not how they use he was just the cute player right we're gonna throw a reverse we're gonna throw it deep it's a gadget guy yesterday he was a part of the offense running routes across the middle of the field using the whole field you know it was intentional it was intentional he his whole route tree is developed now he's not just a gadget guy and I think that caught him off guard flannel I said it before he he dominated the game from start to finish like Tradavius White wasn't even in Jamison Williams's zip code when he caught the ball even on that on that throw to the middle for 36 yards he was running all by himself and I agree with you sick as time goes on I think that there's gonna be games where I'm in Ross St. Brown is running open for 10 11 15 yards many many times and Jamison Williams maybe has two for 40 it happens in the NFL you're gonna see it next game yeah now that everybody knows Jmo can take the top off you at that easy you're gonna see it the the safeties are gonna be two yards back I'm and Ron Laporta are gonna have their way next game uh Woodward sports chat thread David Whit how about that Kirby picked up we're gonna talk about the defense shot out Kirby by the whole curve dirty dirty Kirby dirty Kirby I love it no we are gonna talk about the defense though in the next segment um Brandon cat spot Jmo was cooking a broken down player okay man yeah well that's who lined up in front of them and guess who gets a paycheck to guess who everyone will look like a broken down player trying to stay with that look guys I know what I know what I saw like his whole career you see the impact he even last year unlimited targets here flannel that was our big point of contention you and I went back and forth because you refuse to accept reality that even last year there were multiple games he impacted winning the Tampa game on the road the New Orleans game on the road just big plays and and we and look you guys have tape on it now when we sat down and did the show last night then the second quarter I what did I say that this game is begging for a big moment to bust this open and swing the pendulum yep that's that's the nature of his play it's not it's not gonna be seven receptions for 79 yards he's about moments and you can't have a bigger moment than fourth down stop 36 yard pass that it's it's that's it and that's exactly what I was taught I know what I see I know what I see and it it really is incredible quality gaming michigan just went undefeated and won a natty enough said if we suck for a few years it is what it is I I'll read that again quality gaming michigan just went undefeated won a title enough said if we suck for a few years then I guess we're just Auburn so uh that's uh that's also what it is that's a one loss in two years what are we doing here yeah let's it was one game in two years and I get it it didn't look pretty and we're gonna do it more later it looked awful it looked it was it was that Nick Marsh look pretty good he did and I've got a lot to say about michigan and we'll we'll we'll get to it but uh lives are more important absolutely it's better to come by uh maybe we can forget michigan altogether yeah no we're definitely not gonna forget that you know what I wouldn't forget who's that mark white you can't forget mark white because mark white will save you up to five apology on Saturday did you wish that you married somebody else when you were sitting there through that Texas I know are you Rob Parker and everybody asked that's a Rod Marinelli like don't you wish your daughter married a better offensive coordinator absolutely no I'm kidding but flannel family Mrs. flannel you know I'm a big fan she has our cream of wheat t-shirts you don't like her she's a she's electric she's a lot cooler than you are Neil rule Sam flannel in for DMACC here on big D energy we got stick in the building why now we're all just hanging out Spencer Raxter heavyweights coming up five to seven silent mic is here he's he's real chatty today he's really a verbose as well no but we are we we talked a lot Detroit Lions we will continue to do so defensively I think it was undervalued and I think it was undersold what they did yesterday defensively um people are going to talk about the fact staff for went for over 300 yards he had he had 50 passes to do it flannel yeah I like what I saw in the bottom line is this when he gets in the red zone he doesn't score tutties as a matter of fact Aaron Rogers father Kirby Joseph got the big pick and and I think we don't realize how big of a play that was huge it was it was massive into paint a bigger picture the Rams had three drives in the first half that that ended that got to the Lions 19 the Lions 23 and the Lions eight respectively and they came out with came off with a grand total of three points that's absolutely demoralizing that is the definition of Ben but don't break and of course the most impactful of all was the Kirby Joseph interception which the Rams were driving to potentially tie the game before halftime and Kirby Joseph just shut that down immediately it was a bad throw it was a nice a a very nice pressures by Hutchinson and Davenport combined but Kirby Joseph was just right there right before that though you would kneel on the watch party because hutch just got that 15 yard penalty yeah and that's hot that was yeah was part of your discussion watching you to go back and forth about that and then Kirby Joseph just issue the kumbaya for everybody like all right that no longer matters yeah you guys were scaring my mom she saw those are first in-person in-person flannel moment yeah she was getting a little manic there for a second not for the faint apart no I was hot man because that played was going to give up points they had him stop Kirby Joseph's saved everybody yeah Matthew Stafford went Matthew Stafford who Matthew Stafford not familiar with him John Jonathan Matthew staff there you go JMS so it's so weird shout out Kirby Joseph I've been preaching this all off season I've said he's going to lead not just the Detroit Lions but the entire NFL in interceptions this year and a part of that was because of the transformation of the cornerbacks in front of him when you have guys like Carlton Davis and Tyrion Arnold and a McRobertson who are sticky to their wide receivers and Kirby Joseph doesn't have to make up for their lack of cornerbacks and he can actually just be the ball hawk be the playmaker that Lions fans know he is he is going to have the freedom to do that back there he has a natural knack for getting the football and getting to the ball the ball finds him I guess he's just lucky yeah I guess he's just lucky spammy like dirty to dirty dirty he's dirty and lucky like man Kirby Joseph well word sports chat thread Ricky says people are sleeping on Jmo's ability to be a number one which I agree with he is and he is he's on that track man yeah he can be a number one receiver in this league that's the ceiling that is the ceiling what words sports chat thread Snorri can we start finding zebra stripes for horrible calls and missed call no they're always protected class and so it for some reason we talked about this during our time in the second quarter of the watch party when are we done with sixty five year old dudes trying to chase the best and most elite athletes in the world like there are sixty five year old dudes out there trying to decipher Tyree kill touchdowns down the field well they know what I'm saying think about that the Gibbs touchdown was I think what really sparked that discussion because at first they ruled them down but when you looked at every angle it was and it was sneaky I get it was like the nose of the football but it was clear that he had crossed the plane and they ended up ruling it correctly and it being a touchdown but the game just moved so fast that I don't know how any ref let alone sixty five always knows the exact right place to spot the ball no and it is and that's people don't understand that about professional sport like when I step up and do pro games like if I'm doing you know the pistons Orlando magic or whatever it takes me a second when I sit in that chair the first couple possessions and you're like damn this thing is moving fast man it is it is incredibly fast I don't know how sixty five year old man is going to keep up with that let alone have control over the outcome yeah it's a it's insane to me but whatever we'll talk about that later Kevin Bell bra on a subscriber why do I get so many ads bro talk to YouTube YouTube man what let's let's let's leave that inside yeah all right anyway we could click a button I guess no moving on everybody but no Wilbur sports chat thread jump into there but no defensively and again it's just in the moment I because I was sitting there watching the game going and I would like to see a little more just the way that they were they had that stretch of the game where they were kind of picking the lines apart with the shorter passing routes and things like that but that is the nature of this NFL you you are going to have moments where you take over the football game even the Carolina Panthers well except for the Carolina Panthers they're not they're not going to take and and even the Tennessee Titans who have maybe the worst quarterback in the history of our time will love us who maybe is the greatest robber of all time the fact that he's in the NFL props to him he's a great bag man starting but anyway starting in the NFL through all of that for me flannel I just I liked what I saw because I think everything was apparent they got pressure yep did they did it did it end in the sack total that you wanted to maybe not necessarily but they got to that's a 34 sack pace it's a little you know it's below what's what's a top team mid 60s push in 70 mm you know they'll have their they'll have their games where they get four or five maybe even six of them or whatever so what you got if it pops you I want to know I'm just laughing at old refs oh yeah okay no but I like what I saw in totality of it all because the cornerback room is better a rookie played like a rookie at times it was it was what I expected I got what I expected and they were good you may not think so but when you look at the fact that John averaged about six and a half yards per an attempt if they hold every quarterback in this lead to six and a half yards per attempt clear a space for the banner yeah clear a space for the banner for the real banner well and to be honest as much as Terry on Arnold got beat a couple of times he also made some plays I thought there were times where he looked like a worthy cornerback to on a Super Bowl caliber team and he's only going to get better as the season goes on and I want to even further the whole bend but don't break thing I mentioned the three drives the Rams had in the in the first half that for all intents and purposes got to the Lions red zone they combined for three points what did I say earlier the one play that was worrisome was that Tyler Johnson 66 yard catch and run and which Carlton Davis and and Brian Branch kind of got shook by Tyler Johnson's ability to stop on a dime the Rams got it to the one yard line and they couldn't punch it in on that first play and reverse they couldn't punch it in on the first play and then they tried to get cute they ran an end around a Jordan Whittington it scored but in the process Aidan Hutchinson drew a holding call which was actually more of an offensive face mask that was a face mask that was not holding but the fact that they only made them ten yards how do you miss they only give him ten yards on that blatant faith they call it holding yeah holding of the face yeah holding of the face mask and turning his head side pulling pulling the face ripping of the face but don't you love though how you have the confidence in this Lions defense despite all of its flaws despite the fact that they gave up a lot of a lot of I would say six to nine yard plays to like Cooper Cup and the like when I saw that it was it went from being second in goal from the one to all crap they scored to now it's second in goal from the 11 you've got every confidence that they're going to hold the Rams of that field goal and they did that's four drives in that game in which the Lions got to the the Rams got to the Lions red zone and they combined for six points there were other drives where the Rams cashed in I get that but in those four drives they combined for six points that's the game the Rams are kicking themselves right now they got to the one they got to the one and couldn't punch it in when the Lions got to the one at the end it was a guarantee touchdown guarantee with that offensive line with that weekend Rams run defense and David Montgomery but this we what we always talked about this Lions run defense was elite last year I think it's going to be it could be even better this year especially when DJ reader gets back and the Rams didn't feel like they could punch it in because they tried on first down failed and then they ran a gimmick play but what I liked about the secondary to is there wasn't one guy that you were pointing at that was getting cooked all game there was no gardener Johnson out there that's like jeez every time they're just going to attack this guy yeah you didn't see that on the field they even though Stafford put up 300 yards and they had a couple of big plays outside of that it was pretty much blanket coverage tackle the man in front of you know yeah except on those couple plays and it was just nice to see that every one of them contributed without being singled out as somebody who is a detriment to the secondary did you guys notice anybody that you're like oh I hope they don't throw at so and so you're you're exactly 100% right mission accomplished right after one game I'm comfortable in saying mission accomplished the secondary has been upgraded it passed the I 100% upgraded like they just gutted the whole secondary think about last year when you know balls are bouncing off helmets in the NFC championship game because that guy's a practice squad player he shouldn't have been out there anyways yeah now you don't have to worry about that you have your number one and number two overall pick going you know coming in and setting the tone there and those are your weak links and you didn't even have iffy melafamu and I know this is anecdotal but how many times when we were at the watch party when we were either on air or off air just like talking amongst each other where we were like man nice play Carlton Davis nice play a meek nice play Terry on Brian Branch even made a couple he had a couple of whiffs but he also made a couple of nice plays as well like like we've said it never felt like oh god I really hope that they don't throw at like ham Sutton it was just full confidence and damn near everybody including Terry on he didn't get beat egregiously and he made plays when he heads he made he got like he said he's going up against Cooper cup arguably the best route runner in the NFL welcome to the league rookie he gets routed on a five yard out and Cooper gets a catch what happens the next play he steps up and makes the tackle at the line of scrimmage for no game that is one of the biggest factors not only that was your thing yeah on draft day when you said he can tackle tackles he tackles and that's what Aaron Glenn wanted the difference between Kendallville door when he got a he was good tackling he was good tech I like what I saw to him when he was playing last year came Sutton couldn't tackle anybody Charlie Garner Johnson couldn't tackle anybody he saw that yeah you put and it's right Shaw a meek Robertson Carlton Davis and Terry on Arnold out there all of those guys are plus plus tacklers and they don't let people get that's all this league is yes guys are going to complete passes John did it last night to the tune of six yards per pass why because when they caught it with the exception of one time which it's going to happen one time a game at a minimum in this league guys were tackled and that's it and that's why like the Terry Arnold thing for me is not a thing yeah like again you go up against Cooper cup it's going to happen to you he can tap I saw all I needed to see all I needed to see I'm in well and given given a John Stafford's yards per attempt I think these stats really hold a lot of water Carlton Davis ten tackles Terry on Arnold eight Brian branch seven yeah it was a lot of he did and I was just going to bring that up but you don't know if Brian branch had a bad game Brian branch was an aggressive player but that's what they were talking about in the preseason is hey we're going to let Brian branch loose he's almost kind of a rover out there at this point because they want him just to be lighting people up and being an enforcer so yeah he because Neil we were talking about it during the watch party like he was making some he gambled on that one yeah eventually those gambles are going to pay off yes I'm here for it man and you have to be survived it with him making those gambles but I think that was written into the game plan yeah he dove in a couple balls he he missed one that in the very beginning that was a catch he had a PBU on one of them you love to see that he dropped a interception that that he dove for any but the thing with him is he missed a couple tackles that's why I don't think he had too good of a game is because he had some guys dead to rights in the open field and he missed the tackles I don't expect that to be a trend Brian branch is a damn good player I expect them to make that was that was the only issue that there was with Brian branch I'll tell you what Brian branch is scoring two defensive touchdowns this season no doubt in my mind I love it I'm here I'm here for the gambles but guess what if you're going through divorce child custody don't gamble on that everybody come on now katie k law right here in Birmingham they will have your back divorce child custody visitation other family law issues over 10 years of experience and how about this if you're going through child custody if you're going through divorce family stuff chances are you're losing sleep at night katie k law 24 7 availability scan the QR code on the screen right now tell them what word sports sent you they will pay your filing fee let's get serious for him and I know the lions at you know one last night we're getting all glazed up and everything those problems you're having they're not going to go away 80 k law can help though katie k law they've got your back so just to get the heat of steering wheel I also had to spring for the bigger rims yeah that's how they get you those upgrades of selection and you know what they've got a great slogan as well less Stanford Chevrolet together let's try all right keeping a push in big the energy Woodward sports network Detroit's number one sports network neo rule flannel salmon for dinner mccarty stick a post game show fame is here I just wanted to hang out today guys I mean I came in the office I have some stuff to do some stuff we want to tweak from the weekends that you know we can improve on because that's what we do we operate we have our game day which is similar to the lion's game day multiple shows going on multiple broadcasts making sure contents up making sure everybody's tagged and all that stuff so we're gonna watch film on what we executed yesterday and then we're gonna come back stronger this Sunday shout out to the social team yeah boys growing up this weekend they were grind Travis was there all day had to drive back to Toledo after the end of the game like Kaleb just in chase all the boys are killing it the soldiers man yeah soldiers were there and just like if you go look at our social media it covers every spectrum of what the downtown experience was right yeah we had that one video that absolutely exploded of the guy wearing a Stafford jersey because his daughter's husband passed away and he was wearing it because that's what they were going to do when they went to the game absolutely went out of control then we got you know people chugging beer in the parking lot then we got you know hot girls hanging off the the tiger out from America like if you look like if you miss downtown Detroit and you want to know what it was like we're the plug yeah yeah we're your city plug that's it period period industry nobody very proud very proud of what we executed your flagship stations and your tv stations in town they're not doing what we're doing because they're fat and lazy that's the thing and they can sit up in their ivory tower they don't have to be with the people they're above it they're with the team we're in the mud they get their interviews because if they're the teams contractually obligating yeah and you know what and you know what and that's fine and that's cool but through all of that you guys the OGs the day oneers the people all of it tens of thousands of you yesterday took time out of your day to watch the game with us watch the pre-game show watch the post-game show all of it so just wanted to say thank you to all to all of you as well and go ahead i was just gonna say shout out to the five dollar super chat for crayons for break like breakfast crayons for breakfast here's the ainsiloni having an incredible day an absolute love for what we're social team yesterday today you guys killed it so yeah shout out to the team and yeah ainsiloni 13 total tackles 10 solo tackles three tackles for loss do with everywhere and his lettuce was luxurious like he stepped his hair game up in the off i don't know what he did do it if he got a textured or something like it is it's shining i think the first play or the second play the game was an ainsiloni tackle for loss you send the tone no he's the veteran guy in the secondary him and carlton davis and now dj reader they're the gray bush like they need to be that that lockdown guy that that's ready to go and he showed it he was out there he was playing he was one of the best players on the field for the betray we need way more kneel and shawn goat duo and honestly putting that together for the pre-gational that was a that was a nice that was a nice combo i i was feeding off the crowd out there it's a between between that and the new holland uh long drinks yeah which are elite by the way shout out new holland pointed about with shawn is he held that fifth like a baby the whole time didn't once crack it like if you're gonna hold it drink out wait he took it home i don't care you know i'm saying he was like he was yeah because i wanted some lucky i wanted some telemore duality multiple bottles of telemore do thank you because i want it cracked and i want to i'll do a telemore do irish whiskey you know with just a nice cube and then i'll get back on the new holland long drinks which which will be in see i'll just be a maker i'll drop the telemore do in the new holland and then we'll chug it no but shout out new holland as well they're gonna elite logo too i'm not a big logo guy but they have a great one plan i wanted to give a game ball out and dan cambal brought him up in the post game and everyone just kind of glossed over him jack fox was a monster last night fifty eight yards per punt had a sixty seven yard punt two and here's my thing an easy's good at this i know easy has all the connex can we figure out a way to get jack fox on the show oh yeah he's a friend of the network yeah i can get him yeah i want i want to get him on the show because i want to talk to him about punning why how how do you pun a ball do you understand how far sixty eight yards is it's i mean if you really look at it if i were to step on to a football field right now and from where i'm standing at the goal line to the opponent's 32 it's it seems unfathomable that a human being can kick that far but yeah it's just another weapon that the that the lions have and honestly with the way that this defense operates even if they do give up more yards than you would like if you have to keep making offenses go a really long way then but don't break hell you can even give up 20 30 yards he'll give him a first down or two they'll still punt the ball back to the lions it's just it's such a weapon to have because field position is everything in this league well we're sports chat thread jump into there uh james i'm almost as geeks for next week's watch party as i'm in your top five fluid list we're not doing top five fluid he said he's never given up on it he's i look randomly i got that yesterday during the during the pre-game show as well we're not doing it guys we are not doing top five can we do chris colin's worst top five fluids no we're all coming from man we're doing not doing top five and we're seeing a lot of them coming from anthi's dad we're not doing top five fluids we're not doing a variation of top five fluids none of it we're not doing that is where i draw the line this wednesday by the way i'm against kool-aid in honor of in honor of top five bad fathers last week that people just couldn't get enough of we're doing top five bad mothers this week so that's uh that's what we'll do on wednesday by the way top five wednesday uh tomorrow's arrest in peace tuesday we'll be doing the rest in peace no doubt so you know keep packed week yeah it is absolutely nickel package friday you guys know how we do it um what were sports chat thread it all comes down to what niel said on friday in the nfl field goals get you beat that's facts and especially on the road well the rams they had that they probably had that same philosophy when they decided to go for it on fourth and four i mean you you said it stick you came right onto the the watch party and we're like shawn mcveigh is scared he is and that's a bold statement to make about a coach who's that heralded and great but at the same time i thought it was a reckless decision myself i know i'm not as big of a fanful philosophically of the fourth down as you are and it hurt him i would have taken the points but it was a different tone of them going forward on fourth down then when day and Campbell goes for it on fourth down right it seemed like that was a desperation oh my god if we don't put this in the end zone we're losing this game but it really was a self-fulfilling prophecy because all they had to do was keep compiling points because that field goal would have won on the game at the end right i mean we wouldn't overtime an extra field goal would have been nice would have been some extra points so because he was so pressed and i think that goes back to the playoff game too like all that pressure builds up and forces people to make stupid decisions and that's what shawn mcveigh did when he went for it on fourth down he was making a scared fourth down decision dan Campbell makes confident fourth down decision well it's a different it's how i feel right like when we were watching the watch party when i saw danny raxter about lose it mentally so he does and i and but i tried to prepare him remember i was telling him i was like mr raxter get ready because we're going i knew on second down we were going for that oh he's emotionally invested in every single minute second of any Detroit sports i still don't like the fourth down i still don't like it i've learned to accept it but you saw me too me and danny were like this kick the field goal the fourth down aggression to me is the biggest singular reason that this team is for real right now i get it i get it we get it that to me that is what changed this and people talk about culture the fourth down we are going for it and it's not up to you and we will get this first down regardless of what you want and i love it that's what changed everything but what happened in the nfc championship game you not the philosophy was right next to the exit no the execution was wrong but that's the thing because the philosophy was right because percentages say you can't do it every time you just can't no and listen i'm the biggest dan Campbell guy there is right this is no knock on dan Campbell like i said everybody that's in a married relationship you love who you're with but there's always that one thing they do we're just like can you please just close the fridge like like and that's the dan that's dan Campbell not closing the fridge for me it's the one thing that drives me insane but i live with it because of the results you know me i'm a results oriented guy it's working do it but damn i always feel like there's gonna bite us in the air someday there's gonna bite us in the air someday uh shout out to Snorri yeah in the Wilburts sports chat drop the five dollar super chat shout out to y'all boys been watching the past year now love listening to y'all also shout out to the lions especially my white boy pimp Aidan Hutchinson shout out hutch hutch was huge last night big moment made a big play yeah but with the dan Campbell stuff it's it gets the team so rallied around each other because he gets me really to them i trust you i believe that we're gonna win because you're better than they are and that's it gets the guys going that's never been here no that's never been here and that's why it's different and that's why we are where we are right now as a fan base and as an organization because they don't care what you think they're going for all right plan i want to whatever you don't care about the back story but we can take cell phone calls through bluetooth on the roadcaster our audio system i gave out the number we put it in the chat and like look at this yeah i was sitting next to him and it was like detroit michigan farminton hills michigan chicago little noi somewhere in florida we're in the place in california like just call after call after call oh you get to listen to all the voicemails too like you know someone didn't know that i have a bounce house companies like i didn't know i could get bounce houses but fuck that staffer that's funny oh that is a lead my voicemail my mom texted me she's like all right is it okay because she tried to call me last time like mom i can't even pick up my phone like i'm sorry she lives in erin zona so she's three hours behind that is that is awesome but we're back at a big d-energy woodward sports network neo-rule sam flannel in for d-mac uh silent mic is in the building though you would never know it other than the audio being impeccable spent your raxter would would have you wait five to seven tonight holo and stick from the post-game show i have to drink uh drink a coffee here or not a coffee uh tea yeah get a hot toddy man get some bourbon in there i know i can't do that i mean you could if you tried i mean yeah if i wanted to be good but uh we have all of you in the woodward sports chat thread as well so jump into there and uh get your thoughts out there uh what went on around the nfl flannel what was your takeaway from what you saw well i want to keep it close to home because the bears and the vikings were able to get a win and not that the lions should be scared or anything especially when it comes to the bears offense but what we talked about the other day with the vikings i still think they're like a seven eight nine win football team but when you have erin jones when you have just in jefferson when you have like when you acquired an andrew van ginkle who had a sack and a pick six when you have a harrison smith when you have like darishon brian o'neill they're they can only be so bad so look for the vikings to maybe present more of a challenge than we think when the lions play them and when it comes to the bears obviously calib Williams had a rough day view they couldn't run the football their offense was putrid but but will levis was putridder well are we worried though moving forward about the bears maybe having a dominant defense seriously i mean yeah if you're in the market to win seven games sure but like quietly they're gonna have a good defense quietly though the bears made an under the radar move that i didn't even realize until yesterday getting a darryl taylor from the seahawks he had two sags gervon dexter had a sack and that's on top of montes sweat tyrik stevenson had a pick six on top of jailin johnson i'm not saying that oh yeah yeah great toss will levis it was terrible one of the worst picks i've ever seen i'm just saying that i think calib Williams is going to get better and that bears defense could end up being one of the better ones in the nfl uh by the way for the uh minnesota viking stuff that you talk about yeah uh next week the 49ers the week after against the Texans the week after that at the packers the week after that verse the jets the week after that verse alliance at the packers might be a day sir thanks for showing up at the packers might be a win now john love okay great they'll be two and five i'm just when they play the they're they're better than i think they're given credit for if they had an easier schedule you're two and five you're two and five well i understand that but you you look at the gauntlet i'm just saying they're not a push two and five your seasons over they're never going to be with this roster especially given the fact that they paid justin jefferson they're never going to bottom out they're always like at someone like justin jefferson is always going to present a problem no matter what no matter how good the lion's secondary is improved that's all i'm saying is that even the team that well maybe it's the packers now but if all healthy even the team that we think as lions fans is probably probably going to be less in the division there they can be a problem for some too i don't know all i know about the minnesota vikings is you look at that money they're paying justin jefferson and tj hawkinson what are you talking 50 55 million per whatever that number is so good luck with that i hope it works out for you it won't so that's why i'm not worried about here's here's what here's my takeaway from the nfl yesterday we had even kicked the games off at one o'clock you had a superstar wide receiver handcuffed on the on the ground out in front of the stadium out of his lamborghini and then seconds later you had a quarterback get a quarter billion dollars guaranteed money and deck press got it wasn't even noon yet the nfl is the most electric show in the world in the world and it's not close look at everything that was going on around it do you know it's funny both of those guys we talk about deck and tyree kill had very different experiences diametrically different experiences and they both showed out on sunday and then tyree kill gets an 80-yard touchdown in the game and his touchdown celebration is jaylin wall coming over and putting his hands behind his back like that that was the lock of the century the lock when i saw tyree kill in handcuffs on the ground i was like oh he's scoring a touchdown there was never a doubt i put like 30 bucks on it yeah what was it he bought even money yeah i was i think it was like plus 165 oh beautiful beautiful it was it was electric though the whole day yesterday was flat out electric just just some stuff to uh you know what the clock has struck zero or the clock has struck midnight on the cleveland brown they got a magical quarterback run that's over joe flack going walking through that door guess what you're stuck with the shawn watson forever and you want to know how forever because as far as the the rams or excuse me as far as the browns are concerned dishawn watson and what they're liable for which i couldn't understand why they redid his deal and deferred some of the salary money uh for the cut dishawn now crowd 120 million dollars of deadcap this year the 2025 deadcap is 81 million the 2026 deadcap is 54 million they're stuck with this guy man and i understand that he had some uh issues more than just issues but i'll just say issues but how do you fall off that bad in 2020 he was i mean not even just 2020 the start to his career was amazing it was looking like he was on a hall of fame trajectory and now he's worse than daniel jones for all intents and purposes and the cleveland browns a team that should be good should be a playoff team given the roster around him are probably going to under-achieve because dishawn watson's so bad you got all his powers when you know girls were playing with his willy and no one doesn't have it anymore that's it i would get that man in my suits ace app if i was the browns when we're sports chat thread art van de la tirey killing scottie sheffler should do a commercial together this shit i don't think so because sheffler got put in jail tirey kill walked out of the handcuffs into the stadium and scored a touchdown it's not close it'd be just pulling over time wasn't it like right in front of the stadium in his lambo and he's got the wife Peter yeah like the officers on leave yeah oh yeah yep hey that it didn't go well for the officers yeah what did it well and what the hell could tirey kill be doing did you see did you see tirey kill address the media afterwards though i i did not and i i wanted i was gonna go back and watch that spectacular i mean he he could have taken that moment and done whatever the hell he wanted with it and would have been appropriate to approach it however he wanted but you know what he did he took the moment he said listen i want to be a sheriff at some point in my career like this is i i have a lot of respect for police officers but also a brilliant also there's bad apples everywhere so what i want to do is put together a charity and to put together something where i can work with these people and get them in the community so he took the high road and it's like when i was watching it was like damn this is a professional this is a man this is a leader and it made me think a lot more highly of tirey kill because he's had some issues in the past we can all acknowledge that but in this situation he handled it perfectly made the cops look like the asses and he's gonna do something good out of this uh here's the other thing i wanted to tackle before we go to the final break and we may go a minute or two over today on the show don't tell any we may do that though flannel you and i don't see eye to eye on this the Cincinnati bangles yesterday yeah losing to that broke ass new england patriots team at home by the way your boy joe burrow about a buck 65 passing roughly about 70 yards more than cala williams head when do we get to ask the question flannel that's all i'm gonna say i know you want to live in you know back in the time when people were still wearing mask and it was still a covid scare and stuff like that i know you want to live in what happened there but i'm talking about the now even if you want to go back to last year when do we get to ask the question what's wrong with joe burrow you tell me when i can ask the question i'll be over here chilling certainly not yet during his two healthy seasons he threw 34 touchdowns 35 touchdowns 2021 and 2022 led the bangles to a super bowl although i think he's a little bit of an overrated playoff quarterback they still got there and then they got to an AFC championship game in which they lost by three at arrowhead when healthy he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the nfl so i think you have to at least give it through the end of the season before you can start questioning joe burrow he has earned to me some grace you want to know what's wrong with joe burrow what his offensive line yeah you want to know what they could have addressed they could have had pennei suel but they chose jamar chase nice player good wide receiver but what good does it do you when your quarterback's always on his back the funny thing matters not the funny thing is i think for that rookie season having jamar chase was actually the better pick but at long term probably better having suel yeah you got to protect your franchise quarterback and the fact that they chose not to do that in that draft just shows you that they weren't serious about winning when you lose to the patriots at home these patriots these patriots at home guess what that takes winning the division off the table i again they're not winning the division i don't know if some kind of mad man in this room predicted that the bangles would finish last in their division this year i mean i don't know i think could be wearing a cool ass batman you know what's been and i'm just saying there are people in this studio that have warned you about this stuff before they kind of told you that the Houston Texans were going to win that division at four to one i like Pittsburgh this year i like this year i got to go ahead flat tj mix it i'll tell you what we we talk about who looked like an MVP Derek car because he's playing but tj what looked like an MVP in that game he was everywhere he was making curd cousin shit his pants hey and they won with no touchdown yeah they kicked six field goals and look field goals get you beat except when you're the Steelers only the Steelers and Mike tomlin can make that work go ahead trash him go at trash mike tomlin go ahead he is a loser he has a losing record in the playoffs and he somehow skirts every criticism he has a losing record in the playoffs hey i will not tolerate mike tomlin standard what what is thank you why do we treat him like he's basically bill tomlin our floor is higher than that 90 percent of ceilings can we argue though that the playoffs have been a little bit of a struggle for him outside of that one super bowl yeah that's fine okay we can admit that but can we admit getting to the playoffs is tough yes and they do it can we have the time can we admit never going below 500 is tough i would say that's even tough that's like but that that includes like six times where they didn't make the playoffs though yeah but it doesn't matter the fact is do they ever go below 500 no what is their floor 500 500 yeah i can't knock a guy who's got a super bowl ring who has never gotten his team below 500 even though Kenny picket is your quarterback some years you you don't like they haven't provided him with a lot lately lately okay lately and for the record i don't think mike tomlin is trash i know juju smister was your guy dude who shit boopster he had that one season he had with the Steelers though electric tiktok i thought he was going to be one of the best receivers in the league come going forward and that certainly didn't happen we do have sports network neo-rule flannel in for d-max we have Spencer Raskster we have silent mic silent mic incredible effort out of you today all right good talk um but yeah sticks hanging out all of you in the chat cat spot kneel is delusional chase is going to get nearly twice as much money of fuel he's a far more impactful player oh okay uh jack fox makes four million dollar he's the best punter in the game you see how this works supply and demand everybody supply and demand how many wide receivers would you take over to marjakes you probably are you just some Jefferson yeah every kill yeah um Jamison Williams no uh maybe maybe a cooper cup don't don't don't healthy cooper cup I love it is potentially those guys you could argue with it like a j brown a day aj ron that's your flavor mike mike heavens saute we're just reasonably naming elite wide receivers yep how many pennies are how many how many tackles would you take over pene zero i wouldn't take a single tackle over him no well there it is who's more impactful the guy that nobody can compete with or the guy that several men can compete with several i i would i would several but closer to three than like seven just just to make it clear this isn't a jamar chase slander out yes no no jamar chase is great no 100 percent more easy tough than receiver but there's more jamar chases than there are penece absolutely jamar chase you could say there's a tough five receiver i would say that i do this all the time it's become kind of the niche of of what i do in this business life is about supply and demand everything in your life is is based on supply and demand every financial transaction the price of that is set on supply and demand it's just the way that it works seedy lamb another good one yeah yeah so there's that out there as well um spenny we're gonna michigan state shout out numb first place in the big ten first place nice little roadwind there they were nine point underdog eight child's bounce back nick marsh look like the best receiver in the big ten very nice game for him eight catches 190 plus yards of the touchdown it was a monster people were giving a shit because we didn't talk about it on our socials i guess at michigan state one oh that was me that was spenny giving our social team shit yeah that was me i was the one giving him shit well i noticed some such little brother energy yeah hey where's our love hey i needed i needed to see we're a michigan sports company we should talk about winning michigan teams uh i needed to see that out of eight and child's i did now the three picks look i first year starter yeah admit i'll work with i'll work with you on that he showed he showed a step up and that's what you're you know he's 18 years old that's what you're asking out of them just keep getting better every week he was better than he was week one there you go and that's it restored some some faith and it's nice you guys are back in the bowl contention yes which is all you're asking for so on the other side same flannel yeah michigan tough loss they didn't look like they belonged on the same field as texas unfortunately which is it's funny because when you look at the draft prospects from each school michigan and texas both have quite a few but one of the biggest differences is that texas has one at the quarterback position and michigan has somebody who should never start a college football game ever and flannel i'll never understand how this is your quarterback room i'll never and it's on it that ship to me if i was a michigan fan that would be unacceptable to me well of course the only explanation that i can give is that they expected alex org to be better i don't think that that's a plan that they should have followed through on but uh this would actually be the perfect season for a bridge quarterback while jade and davis is a true freshman but instead it's probably going to be a problem as the season goes along the only hope that i have and it's not the greatest hope for good quarterback play moving forward this season is that this arcan saw state game just try orgie and see what he can do i'll on to take harvaugh to find his quarterback long time i mean i would argue shay patterson was like the first for a into but jj was was obviously like the the nfl guy should they go back to a legally recruiting quarterback if it gets him a jj mccarthy can you have more and they wouldn't even have to do it illegally could just give him money they'd be a national championship content they would be probably the favorite that's all that's all i thought about was maybe you should go back to a legally recruiting quarterback they get you jj j 100% buy him hamburgers wasn't that the illegal thing that they did no it was it was no it was it was the jeez the hamburger had nothing to do with it it was the it was the contact contacting him during a a death during covid yeah so it was a dead period in recruiting they chose to ignore that dumbest rule of ever but whatever it was a rule and i agree with you it is a dumb rule yeah so again like people are gonna get triggered about oh there goes kneel there goes kneel hating no i would go back to a legally recruiting quarterback i'm not i would too if it were me because that came out that we legally recruited in jells which is impossible because our head coach was his head coach last year but but how is that not illegally recruiting just touting a guy around the country whenever you pick up a new job you're telling me they didn't have conversations about hey if i leave are you coming with me and i mean i didn't have it they got they got their head coach quarterback offense coordinator starting center and tight end but all right spending that's not collusion you're you're gonna have to work overtime for this one but you'll like it okay flannel yeah uh checked stats donovan edwards 40 yards rushing when do we get to ask these questions we've been asking questions why do you ask that every week i was the one who said he shouldn't have even been on the cover of nca because the season he had last year that is true when you were on the cover of the video game and everyone's glazing you up and you're two games in and you have 60 70 yards rushing unacceptable well i'm not even so much mad at this game because they were down so early so fast it was the game before where kalil mullings badly outplayed him and donovan edwards it's just it's been a recurring theme with him how about this screw the running there were games when he had ten receptions yeah you're not even including him in the passing game because they don't have a quarterback and they can throw it more than nine feet that's all they all they do is force feed colston loveland and that was the one other thing i want to get to before we uh before fumble is brutal he fumbled he fumbled off his own dick not being touched yeah i mean that's a good problem to have that is true i was told we all wanted that problem one of the most elite receivers in the nation he still is he still is he's gonna have a thousand yards he's gonna win the mackey but at that point in that game despite texas outplaying you badly up to that point you had the ball down 17 to 3 with a chance to get a scoring drive and then get the ball first after half time colston loveland was going to pick up that third and 11 and they were going to have the ball in texas territory but as i said colston loveland fumbled the ball off his own dick not touched not tackled unacceptable he's got to bounce back this is more auburn than georgia it's two games i'll just say i know i know but we'll we'll keep running this can we can we at least consider who they played guys great dream if they did play fresno state the week before yeah and fresno look similar well they look similar no because fresno state coming into that game i think they were averaging like 37 points per game on offense and they held him to well below that so the defense played well i was at the game but that's like easy says if you weren't there you don't know damn thing uh but but no like can we give credit to texas please yeah texas yeah i mean the fact that the fact that we're the only thing i did about a win over maryland but don't care that you probably took on probably the best team in the nation well they're in different spots they're in different spots yeah the programs are in different spots that's the thing but then don't talk about on the same i didn't i didn't talk about the same i said nice nice little roadwind from michigan state back back on the road to getting into a ball yeah but then don't tell me about leaders and best and one of the best programs in the history college football and stuff like that no no no you don't get to do this you don't get to run a quarterback out there that i couldn't tell if it was a touchdown spike or a pass you don't get to do that oh they get to do it they're doing so i know how to do it you don't have the good news for them the good news for them still not out of the playoff contention that's a thing this year doesn't matter still not out but sharon more can coach this team up for the next 10 weeks right and maybe linoi every week maybe every because they play they play Oregon, Ohio state and illinois like a no one nobody loves no other day more than michigan because they took away all the national heat like that from being the headline on saturday to okay no to name loss nobody's going to care about what texas did to michigan uh real quick let me do these messages and we'll write out of here uh let's go revving sparti went from the michigan Astros to the michigan hawk eyes in one season ooh q q w w sams on the ropes and finally from go blue the don ha ha thanks for tapping in everybody we appreciate you all week and long we'll be back at it again tomorrow 11 to 1 a.m. for sand flannel for silent mic for stick smence or extra omnial rule big d energy well see you later ha ha ha
