Good morning, I'm Emma Druckmiller in the TV6 newsroom with your on-the-go-morning headlines for Wednesday, September 11th. Never forget, 23 years ago the unthinkable happened, and today communities across the Quad Cities are honoring the lives lost in the September 11th attacks. 23 years ago at this time, we lived in a different world before the terrorist attacks on 9/11. For major cities to the nation's capital, to communities in the Quad Cities, Americans are honoring the lives lost that day, including a memorial, stair-climate, Lancer Stadium, and Eldridge. TV6 sat down with one of the event organizers, who remembers what happened that day, and why it's important to never forget. Keith Schnucklaw, Fire Chief with Eldridge Fire Department said, "I thought about that sacrifice and what would happen if a building collapsed, and those people were inside trying to rescue them. I haven't forgotten, nor will I ever forget the emotions tied behind it." Today's event is free to attend. Participation is open to everyone, and organizers say you can go at your own pace. And for a complete list of 9/11 Remembrance events taking place in the QCA today, you can click the link in the podcast description to visit our website. Lawmakers and the voting public are reacting this morning after Vice President Harris and former President Trump met last night in their first debate. The candidates took the stage in Philadelphia in a debate hosted by ABC News. Both candidates went on the offensive, trying to poke holes in what each would do as president. We don't know if there will be a second debate before the election. The candidates did not commit to a second debate, nor ruled it out. And Deering Company has agreed to pay nearly $10 million to resolve bribery charges against its ties subsidiary. The Securities and Exchange Commission said the company will pay $9.9 million after its subsidiary. Work in Thailand violated the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. According to the SEC order, the bribes were meant to get government contracts in Thailand and included cash, extravagant trips, and massage parlor visits. Deering agreed to restitution and financial penalties, but has not acknowledged any wrongdoing. Taking a look at your weather from meteorologist Kevin Phelps, the warming trend continues today eventually leading to highs in the mid-80s. While this isn't overly hot, it is about 5 degrees warmer than average for this time of the year. Humidity will continue to run low as well as leading to another comfortable day for outdoor activities. Temps will once again reach the mid-80s on Thursday before some cooler attempts set up Friday and into the weekend. We will have to keep an eye on what will be the remnants of Hurricane Francine by the weekend for clouds in a few showers southeast of the QCA. That wraps up your on-the-go morning headlines for Wednesday, September 11. In the TV6 Newsroom, I'm Emma Druckmiller.
