In this What's On Disney Plus Podcast episode, Roger discusses some of today's biggest Disney+ news, including:

If I'm gonna be talking about Disney's movie inside his closing plus also an update on second season of Ahsoka But before we go any further make sure you do hit that subscribe button to keep up with the latest Disney plus news Hi everyone, it's Roger here from what's on Disney plus calm it's time for quick Disney plus news roundup Let's start talking about the Disney movie inside a club So this is gonna be closing down on the 4th of December So if you are a member of this club you're gonna need to get in and redeem those points as soon as possible You don't want to be leaving into the last minute because the items that are available in there for you to collect They are going to be starting to dwindle. They're not going to be refilling them. This idea is stocks last So this is a program that's been running in the United States and you can get points for buying movies either physically or digitally You could also get points for being a subscriber to Disney plus you could also get points as well And for like linking them up with when you bought a cinema ticket to a see a Disney movie they're coming closing down this platform and It's not a huge surprise according to the official statement that came from Disney They say our members passion for content across the world this new studios has always been at the heart of our program We are incredibly grateful to your participation in the program and your enthusiasm over the years Over the coming weeks will encourage you to redeem your points for awards for my collection points can continue to be used on a variety of different offerings including posters movies Disney gift cards sweepstakes and more greatly appreciate your loyalty support and understanding So let's be honest this is very much a case of this program was created around the idea of physical media And over the years obviously people are buying less and less and programs like this just aren't as useful as they used to be So it's costing them more money and they're probably just they're selling less and less movies and so therefore There's less and less people taking advantage of the situation now on the website They were doing a little bit funny with it They were talking about the fact that this new plus park is gonna be launching in 2025 Which is odd because it's already been running for nearly a year now There's currently a number of different offers, you know, you get a Marvel comic you could get special stuff If you picked up Star Wars outlaws, they've been doing bits of pieces for a long time But then whether or not the Disney Plus correct program is gonna like properly launch I mean, it's maybe a bit weird how they're saying it But this one's been running around for a while, but that's kind of something they're looking to replace it with Again, people are just buying less physical and digital media. So therefore this this kind of program is just dying away It's something of a legacy. I know there's a lot of people that are upset about it I've got been saving up their points. Maybe trying to get to one of those big studio tours And now they're gonna have to kind of claim it in so I would definitely recommend if you are remember getting in there now Get in those points spent rather than just letting them go because if you don't use them You're gonna lose them and you might as well use it up and get some free stuff from there before it all closes down You know, it's a nice little bonus thing that they've run for a while But as I said this whole industry is shifted and this program is probably just not cost effective anymore Because so many few people are buying your physical media and they again This is a show shift again to Disney Plus and all of that is just all part of it Also Disney you know like we're trying to get is to go cinema and all the rest of it I mean, you know, how much is this actually bringing in how you know? Is it helping, you know, what's the correlation between people going cinema and collecting their points? There's all that kind of integrated into how many more digital movies do you buy digital movies or do you just rent them? Or do you just wait for Disney Plus? All of this is all interconnected and no doubt they're seeing the data They've also been closing down other programs and stuff similar to this They're have a movie club where you can buy discs, etc Unfortunately, this is just the side effect of you know, the shift away from physical media These kind of programs are just not necessary. We used to have one in the here in the UK Kind of similar, but it wasn't quite as good. You just got points for buying DVDs You basically used to get but if you brought like six Disney DVDs, you basically get a seventh one for free I claimed loads and loads of movies for it always used to do it because it was just like a freebie But yeah, eventually that kind of closed down as well So it's not really a surprise to me Surprise it last as long as it did, but this again We're just seeing Disney cutting casts cutting where they don't need them and this is a program It was nice and they you know, it was good for them to do it But we're in a very different era now and I think Disney Plus perks is a replacement for this Not the same because you're not getting a load of freebies and stuff in that same way And a lot of it is kind of like digital stuff But yeah, I think this is going to be the way they move forward with this new Disney plus perks program But let me know what you think of this. I love to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below Early this morning Disney released a brand new trailer for the upcoming Australian original series The last days of the space age which is going to be coming out on october the second on Disney plus In Australia and around the world. It's also going to be coming out in the United States on hulu and hulu on Disney plus at the same time It's going to be eight episodes And it's set in 1979 western Australia for a global beauty pageant contest creating a media frenzy And a power strike that threatens the plans to reach it into darkness History is at a turning point But that's nothing compared to the drama that seeing ordinary families are enduring in a town which it will never be the same I think this one looks very interesting in the fact that Again, I love the idea of Disney being able to tell some stories on a not just based in the u.s Western Australia, especially in the periphery a beautiful part of the world Love to hear a little bit more stories about you know, especially like you know from the 70s Is it looks like it's going to be quite in some ways a little bit political we're dealing with different situations and stuff Women's rights, Aboriginal rights, etc Which I think is again, it's just interesting to have different stories and that's what I'm intrigued with this one Nice eight part series something that you can just sort of sit down binge and just have a different storytelling And I think that's the most important thing and it's one of the things I love About having localized original content that goes global is that it just allows these different kind of stories So not everything has to come through the same, you know The lens of just going through like, you know, Los Angeles or Atlanta or New York or even London So I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with this one It's probably not gonna be for everyone and I don't imagine it's gonna be a huge huge hit And also I think in some ways the name doesn't necessarily reflect what the story is going to be about You know when I heard the name I thought it was going to be you know a bit more like the right stuff something to do with space So this is yeah, very very different. This is much more of a personal drama about my close-knit community I'm definitely interested in watching this but let me know are you excited to watch this show Let's hear your thoughts on this in the comments below shifting gears now Let's now talk about the second season of a soaker so um obviously We saw the first season release last year and earlier this year it was revealed that um Dave Filoney is working on a second season and he kind of put out a little image and stuff with Look like graphic and stuff nothing too much, but we don't really know exactly when it's going to be coming out or anything like that Recently over the Labor Day weekend, Natasha Loubazizzo who plays Sabine in the series Was attending Dragon Con at 2024 in Atlanta and during the Star Wars panel She revealed that she wouldn't be attending next year's event because she would be filming the second season of a soaker So with the news that they're still going to be filming the Ahsoka season two next summer It does kind of lead us to have some ideas of maybe when we might expect to see a soaker season two arrive on at Disney plus Now obviously with filming still going on in august september of next year They're going to need probably a year or so to do all the special effects so that puts us into 2026 I also wouldn't be surprised if it ends up bumping into 2027 Because in 2026 they're releasing the Mandalorian and Grogo movie And if they're trying to slow things down, maybe they're just going to put out the movie that year You know that could be a possibility now. We know that for example in terms of stuff that's coming up We've got skeleton crew dropping in December. That's kind of December in January the next year We're going to be getting the second season of Andor. That's probably it. That's the only things Um, we know so far and Grogo and now Ahsoka that could basically be the next few years We are seeing them make a lot less And maybe if they throw in an animated series here and there but get ready We are not going to be getting those free four shows a year like we have in the past We're going to be getting a lot less So I wouldn't be at all surprised if Ahsoka does drop in 2026 Maybe even 2027 to really spread it out and kind of give stars A lot more room to breathe to let those shows and movies have a lot more space So when they do come out, they feel a little bit more special Also more importantly give them time to create Some better stories iron out the issues there was some issues with Ahsoka that need to be dealt with um And also just I think in general the star wars needs to organize where it's going What's looking forward having a little bit more focused than it's had over the last few years Be all over the place. I personally feel like jumping around all the different time zones where you know one minute we're set Um before Phantom Menace then we're sat between the two three cool was and then we're sat between this one and that one You know, I I wouldn't be I think right now. Look, let's just focus on the Mandalorian era Let's get that sorted and then you know if they want to move on to after Ray, etc Maybe do that them but more focused. I think that's something I would like to see We are going to be seeing a lot less and I definitely got a state that that that's something that we have got to get used to We're just not going to be getting the same amount of stuff There's also as well a lot of complaints right now with streaming and how long shows are taking to make And how you know, we're having these delays and stuff where you know shows used to be like, you know We just have to wait a year for a new season now. We're making waiting multiple years And it's just not as you know, it's not good. It's not keeping us um things fresh and You know people kind of go well Why was it the days of when we could get like a show with 20 plus seasons dropping, you know Yearing year out and now we can't seem to get that with these short shows and the simple truth is Um, you know, these shows are with like Ahsoka are much more expensive. There's a lot more elaborate of all the special effects You know, they can turn around something like the bear or any murders in the building much faster Because there's no special effects that drastically changes how quickly it can get turned around Also, just that that is the major issue Um getting the cast on board etc getting the stories organized as a lot to it But my main hope really is with Ahsoka is that they can kind of nail that story down and they really make it better You know, um, I do think you know they do need to listen to the audience To the feedback not necessarily listening to everything because that's just going to you're never going to please everyone But there is a general feeling that they need to tighten up and make things a lot better But I'd love to know your thoughts. What do you think of the idea of Ahsoka season two being? Least another two years away from hitting our screens Love to hear your thoughts on that in the comments below in our question today which comes from our youtube channel member babak Who says do you think disney will add another sale to hulu life to get those unhappy direct tv customers to switch Like they did with the char to do when that fell apart Well that doubt that you know the idea of all the issues going on with direct tv hulu plus live tv could pick up some additional subscribers This has happened in the past But disney does have to be careful of how they do this they can't just go all in and Really heavily push it because that could um sound negotiations could cause other issues So they've got to be careful when they do this how they do it Um, in all honesty They're probably quite happy if you go to youtube or anybody else because what will happen then is if you go to youtube tv or sling or anything like that They're still going to get their money. They still get paid for it So that that's not really from their point of view a major issue. They still get their chunk I've said it like your hulu plus live tv But I think if they actively actively push it But it might change during the week as we get closer to the kickoff of the nfl season on you know That's where things can shift a little bit of you know at the minute they might be like Yeah, we don't want to do it and also it takes time you know to get these Advertising campaigns like revved up Yeah, I mean it makes sense for them to do a little bit But they they definitely have to be a little bit careful of how they do it But hopefully we get an update on what's going on in the next few days ahead of the launch of the new nfo season But let me know your thoughts on this in the comments below We're gonna check us out over at what's on disneycloss.com like follow and subscribe when i see you guys soon latest [Music] [BLANK_AUDIO]
