Now this guy may not be as popular as our first ever Thursday conversation guest. He may not have as big of a following, but I like to talk to him just as much as Gene Taylor. It is the man, the myth, the legend, Drew Galloway, Drew. How does it feel to be on the second episode of Thursday Conversations following the greatest AD in the country? - Yeah, feels good. I feel like I'm always on after somebody that is like way above my pay grade. Like I think that I was after Wyatt a few times during Blitz month. Now I'm after Gene Taylor for Thursday Conversations. I've been after Brian Smolar. It's like you hype everybody up and then it's like, okay, I'm like the next one. So like it's fun to be that next one because the expectations aren't as high for me as they are for like when you have Gene or like Brian Smolar Wyatt on. - Well, that might be true, but you are a good guest. You are the recruiting guru over at K-State online. You are plugged in and look, eventually this might, I might need an intern, I might need something, but I need to start tracking how many times guests have appeared because I'd imagine over the last couple of years you've skyrocketed. We've done close to like monthly recruiting shows like where you update our listeners on recruiting. You're big time during football season. - Both you and Mason have always been like on my short list of like, okay, it's the, you know, off season. I need to find some episode this week and I just talked to one of you guys, but you've been shooting up the rankings of guest appearances. You know, I think you might be entering, you know, Jimmy territory, you know, DY, you know, he racked them up early on, but he's a busy guy now. So how does it feel to probably at least at a minimum be top 15 in total guest appearances? - I'm guessing top 15. - That felt good, like, I always enjoy coming on here. I joke that I'm like the bullpen guy and that I'm always ready. So it's fun to be on this and it's like kind of a change of pace for me, like for when Mason and I record because it's like, when Mason and I do it, it's like obviously like on YouTube and I have to have like the ring light out, get ready and get like everything ready. Like this, it's like, okay, I can just go on. Nobody can, nobody has to see me. It's like, I just got to stay here and just relax and talk. - Yeah, I don't have a ring light. I don't have any of that. But, you know, I've probably cost myself some growth by not going to YouTube, but I'm sticking strong we're audio only. So I sent you a list of things that I wanted to touch on, but before, you know, we talked a little bit about this. Something that this show used to be very passionate about and I still have opinions. I just don't care as much, which is weird. You know, I have opinions on it. I have critiques, but it just doesn't get my juices revving as much as it did when we started the show. But new basketball uniforms, I will say I'm a little concerned. There was a TikTok circulating of the players in all the different uniforms, but the lavender one wasn't represented. So I really hope the lavender uniforms have not been retired. That would kill me. But some new white and purple uniforms, really pretty basic, no trim anywhere on the bottom or top of the jerseys. The serpentine K-State wordmark, the number font. I don't even know if there's a, I don't know if there's really a discerning font there, but it did change up from the previous ones. Not horrible. You know, I'd probably give it a C plus. You got the script Wildcats on the belt tag, power cat up on the shorts. And then the big distinguishing factor, the panel logo is the super zoomed in on what they're calling the ratty cat. What K-State fans call cocaine willy for a unique little spin on that. What were your initial reactions when you saw the uniform? What are your kind of opinions now that you've been able to sit and digest them a little bit more? What sort of grade would you give these new two uniforms? Yeah, really, it kind of came out of left field and surprised me because this wasn't something that I really expected to see. But I like them, it's a step above, I think, where the traditional home and the ways were last year and the last like three or four years. And I think that's why you kind of seen kind of K-State go away from those traditional home and the ways when they played games. So now you see these and it's like, okay, they're probably in like six out of 10, seven out of 10 range, but they're extremely clean, look crisp. I really like the font of the number. I think that that pops a little bit more and just think that they're overall just a very clean look. But it's kind of like what we talked about before we started recording that all Nike jerseys are kind of starting to look the same and all Nike uniforms are starting to look the same. So from that standpoint, it's not like super unique outside of the riding the cat along the side. But I like them. I think the real talking point out of these jerseys is that it will be Doug McDaniel wearing number zero and I know how you feel about that. So I'd like to hear your thoughts about Doug McDaniel wearing it. I'm much more okay with Doug McDaniel wearing zero than I was going to be with Quiz Glover. Again, no intended disrespect to Quiz. I don't know how to say it without being disrespectful. You don't give single zero to Glover, man. I mean, I'm not glad he got hurt. I want to go on the record. I am not happy that Glover got hurt and didn't play last year. This is not a I am happy he got hurt statement. I'm just glad he never wore the number zero for K-State. Now, if Doug McDaniel is everything that's promised, if he is the type of player that we all hope he's going to be, I'm okay with him wearing zero. If he's a bust, if he has a bad season, if he leaves halfway through to pursue a career in Broadway musicals, I would be very mad. But if he has a big season, if he's like an all big 12 type of a guy, I'm okay with him wearing zero. So that's my statement. - The other takeaway that I kind of got that was just like a non jersey thing is that Damon Gasol looks jacked. - I thought that too, but at the same time, so his arms look really good as we turn into a male fashion podcast. But I feel like the jersey is a size too big for. Like his arms look great, but I feel like for both of them, or at least with David Gason, it almost looks a little baggy on him, but man, yeah. His arms look like he's been doing, you know, curls for the girls out in Europe during his summertime with the Netherlands. - I'm also a fan of both shoes. So like if they wear, especially with the purple uniform and Doug McDaniel wear those shoes with the jersey. - Dude, so this should be a feature and I want you guys to, you should do this. You should have before games for basketball games, get pictures of all the players' shoes and then tweet them out because I'm not a sneaker head. I couldn't tell you, like, you know, I can zoom in. I'm like, okay, David Gason, those are KD's 'cause I know the logo and what Doug McDaniel, maybe those are Kyrie's. So I know the logos, but I couldn't tell you, oh, those are the KD7 lavender, great color way. I can't tell you any of that, but I like seeing those shoes. So I think that should be, you know, a pregame thing where you guys try to get pictures of the players' shoes while they're warming up and tweeting them out. - We can make that happen. I mean, I'm sure that we can work something out there. - In one final thing, and again, I didn't think it was gonna go this direction, but hey, whatever. This is what Thursday conversations are all about. I hated last year that so many players were wearing like the Kobe Grinch's. I think, is that what they were, the Kobe's? Like it was the first new Kobe release for a long time. And it was like the Grinch's that came out, you know, as part of like a Christmas release. Look, I get it, whatever, like, I'm not, I don't know anything about the shoe, but it was all season long. There were so many players wearing shoes that had nothing to do with the color of their school. Like it did not match back to the uniform at all. Like, I mean-- - RJ Jones was a big one in that. - Yeah, it was like neon red or pink. And then I think Buddy Rich had some green ones for a while. Like, I get it, and honestly, if they just did it during December around Christmas time, okay, I'm a Christmas guy, I love it. But the fact that they are wearing those, like, you know, in the NIT in March, like, oh, come on. So I do hope we see a return to this. One final thing, and then we are going to move on unless you have something else. I remember back when I was in school that the players would always match their socks. White, purple, or black under Frank Martin. But there'd always be one freshman or one newcomer who ended up wearing the wrong socks. And I never talked to anyone on the team. I didn't like try to figure it out. I always thought it was like, okay, they had to be like hazing one player a game. It's like, oh, we're all going out there in purple socks. Then one guy had white, or, oh, hey, we're all going out with black socks, and one guy had purple. Just something that popped into my head as I was remembering my time as a K-State student in the second row for almost all those games. So any other miscellaneous basketball fashion thoughts? - No, but that would be so funny if that returned this year. That might have to be something that we talked to somebody about. - Yeah, float that out to David Gison and we'll see what happens. Before we get into the topics I was going to ask about, we'll give a shout out to Manhattan Brewing Company. If you guys are listening to this on release day on Thursday, folks, you need to make one stop before you head to Bill Snyder Family Statement. That is Manhattan Brewing Company. Look, yes, you can get them all across the state. Yes, there's multiple spots in Manhattan if you're coming into town for the game. But the best part about picking up your tailgate beer from Manhattan Brewing Company is you can get a couple pints, you can get a couple of crawlers straight from the tap, rolling deep with some 32 ounce crawlers and some four packs. Be the MVP of your tailgate on Friday while showing up with some Manhattan Brewing Company beer. If you're not gonna be at the game and you live down Wichita, boom, the MBC lounge is going to have a watch party. And then of course, if you live in the state of Kansas, talk to your local liquor stores and say, "Hey, I want you to carry some Manhattan Brewing Company four packs." No free ads, but Missy's right here in Shawnee has it, Gomers and Lenexa, they had a big selection. I got stocked up, I got some pumpkin batch, I got some lemon Cezanne, I got some Wabash, I have some Towney, I have some Fowler, I am set up all football season long, shout out to Manhattan Brewing Company. All right, that was the random banter part of this. So let's start with the current football team. We are through two games. Just what are the overall thoughts? We'll start on the positive side of things. Through the first two games, what are one or two things you're feeling the best about? - I'm feeling good about the run game. Blocking has been inconsistent probably at best if you wanna talk online, but the run game has been really, really good. I think K-State's averaging almost 200, or over 240 yards a game on the ground, and have just been able to pound away. And I mean, DJ Giddens looks really, really good, averaging seven yards a carry, Dylan Edwards and Limited Carries, but is still averaging 10 yards a carry. So I think that you kind of take a look at that, and I think that that's a major positive. And then on the flip side, I would say that stopping the run has been something that K-State's done really well so far. - What guy he uses is a freaking stud 'cause no F-words in 2024. - That is correct. Unless you're on the live KSO show and John Kurtz is just letting it fly. - But he is a absolute stud, and K-State shut him down pretty well outside of a couple long runs. Yeah, and I think that credit goes to Damian Elolio. The linebackers have played really well so far this season. So I think that stopping the run and running has been two good things. And I think that that's, I hate to say that's kind of like the essence of football, but if you can run and you can stop the run, you're probably gonna be in position doing a lot of games. - I will say when you talked about the blocking and shout out to Jimmy AKA, K-State underscore fan, his GIF breakdowns on K-State online, the best threat every single week. There were a handful of times where it wasn't even the offensive line. If a tight end or wide receiver just gets a body on a guy or just holds a block for a fraction more, there's even more big plays in the running game. Funny enough, I've been someone who's harping, I wanted to see more quarterback run last week. And there was some pure comedy on like the quarterback power where K-State guys pulling and running into each other. So I will give a little bit of credit to the offensive line because at least some of that inside stuff has been pretty good. We'll move on, we'll get a little sad here, sad boy hours. What are the one or two biggest disappointments you've had through the first two games? - The first one that I would probably say that has been disappointing. And I mean, it's something that we're gonna talk about in a little bit, but pass defense, just specifically against Tulane was extremely rough. And I think that a lot of the guys on secondary probably need to take a look in the mirror after how they played Saturday and really kind of step it up the rest of the way because there were just a lot of breakdowns and stuff kind of not going their way. And then again, I hate to be kind of like the obvious one, but I guess I'll have as much concerns about the passing about offense as some others, I think that if they hit some passes, I think that we feel better about it. So I'll actually say drive starters. K-State has not been good on third down this year and it's because they've been really bad on first down. So if they can figure out how to start drives and make it a third manager or third and short, I think that we'd also feel a lot better about the K-State offense. I've been wanting to go and kind of chart first down plays, but to be honest with you, I think K-State's not doing well on first down like at all. Like probably like two or three yards, two or three yards, two or three yards. And then that just sets you up to be like third and seven, third and six, third and eight. And when a pass offense has been pretty inconsistent, that's not a recipe for success. - Yeah, and on the pass offense, I'm in a similar boat because when I watch it and some of the times it's easier to see in the stadium. So part of this, taking stuff from the UT Martin game where I was in the stadium, part of it's taken from rewatch on to lane. It's like they are very close to, I would imagine a lot of us feeling better about the passing game. You know, there was a couple drops in the UT Martin game. Avery Johnson has had a couple that are, oh, just, you know, close misses. And then there's a couple of times where, you know, the wide receivers just really aren't getting open a couple of times that, hey, maybe something's opening up, but Avery feels a little bit more of the pressure, but you see the opportunities, you know, we've seen Avery make all American caliber plays like that touchdown to Will Swanson, throwing behind one set of defenders in front of another. We've seen, you know, that the pass to Keegan Johnson, that was a good one. The pass to Jace Brown and the opener, even if it was a little bit long. We've seen the big plays. I just think, you know, we just need to get a little bit more of the consistency. And I'm not, I'm not quite as down on it as some other folks, but I also am tending to be the optimistic one when looking at the K-State offense this year, at least amongst the internet fans. What do you think is the one thing that, if there was one thing, I just named seven things. So I understand I'm boxing you into a corner here, but if you had to zero in on one thing you'd like to see from the passing game moving forward to improve it, what would it be? - Honestly, and like it, it's just going to take time with him because he is so young. But that, like the pass is starting to lock it in the two-ling game, that's a pass that Avery Johnson has to make. I think that we feel a lot better about the offense and the passing game in general, if he makes that. I know that Jimmy said that it would be a big game. That's a touchdown if he hits lock it and strive before the half. - So not only does Avery come away with what I would believe would be five total passing touchdowns, but then I think that pass would have been what a 45-yard gain as well. So his stat line hypothetically, hypothetically, 'cause you know, butterfly effect, who knows what ends up happening. But say if everything else goes the same, he's 16 of 23 for 220 yards and three touchdowns. And then his yardage per attempts would probably go up to just a tick under 10 or right at around 10 and said, 7.9, QBR probably bumps up to right around 80. All of a sudden, you just have that one play back. No one's saying, oh, I don't know about Avery Johnson's passing. Just that one play, which is a fraction, which yes, he overthrew Sterling, but if Sterling was maybe a step quicker, maybe he pulls it down. I mean, just fraction away from feeling really good about the passing game. - Oh yeah, he hits that one. And I think that you feel better. I'll even say a non-touchdown play, but there was one, it was a third down play where Kasey was backed up and he probably missed Jaden Jackson by about a step. - Oh, that was a scary one. I thought that was getting intercepted. - And like if he hits Jaden Jackson on that one, I think that you feel better. So they're like one or two big plays away and they're only missed by a step or two that I think that everybody would feel pretty good about the passing game. And again, that kind of goes back to kind of the drive starters and sustaining drives. You make those plays. I think that you feel better because when you look, I don't necessarily think that Connor Riley has had like an A+ game plan and play calling over the first two games, but you really look at some of the play days and break them down and you rewatch. And it's kind of a, it's been a little bit of a lack of execution at times instead of like a bad play call. Like I don't necessarily love. I think it was on the first field goal that K-State attempted that they ran a stretch play on second 12 with DJ Guldens. If I believe it was Garrett Oakley, if he sustains that block, that's probably a touchdown. So again, you make these one or two execution things and you feel so much better about the offense. - Yeah, and again, fans are going to be extreme like that's part of it. And part of the internet, you're just firing takes off. But I feel like people have already kind of jumped the shark on trying to say like Connor Riley's in over. So in again, I'm not even maybe giving him an A in his play calling. But I, you know, I think he's B, B minus in his play calling. I think even, you know, your boy Mason's a little tough on him at times as well. But I, every time I rewatch, I'm like, Oh man, Oakley, just hold that block or Jaden Jackson. Just get a piece of that guy. Avery, a fraction off an inch off and it's a touchdown. So I don't, every time I rewatch a case that game, maybe it's the lavender glasses. But I come along thinking they're very close to an offensive explosion. - And I think that that is kind of part of having a younger team and especially on offense. Like there's a lot of new pieces. Avery's just a 19 year old playing quarterback. You had, I know that there was some experience backlong offensive line, but you still replaced four starters. And you have Dante Seifus, new receiver, Jason Brown is still a young. Keegan Johnson is the older guy among the receivers, but he's still only a junior. It's like you kind of look around and it's, there is a bunch of younger players on offense. Garrett Oakley is another one where he's just not super experienced. So he missing that block is probably just part of not having a ton of experience. So you look at that and you're like, okay, they could be due for an offensive explosion pretty soon because they're so close to really taking off. - All right, let's move on. Let's again get to sad boy hours. You and I both high on the defensive backs. I think you probably were leading the charge of three NFL draft pick safeties. I was right there behind you and then I'd bought into the hype from Chris Klimman on the cornerbacks, especially last week. Look, UT Martin got behind him like once or twice. That's gonna happen. It's college football, but last week was inexcusable, especially in the first half. What is it? Like, why aren't the DBs on the same page? What's going on with the safeties? Is this something that can get fixed? Was that the Missouri game from last year? And hey, we all know that, you know, the back, you know, three quarters of the season, the DBs were a lot better. Is there a little bit more concern coming out of that game, especially going up against what could be an explosive offense in Arizona? - I think that there is probably two things to kind of go along with what I would say is kind of been wrong with the secondary and the two-lane game. Lana is not trusting your eyes. Like Jordan Riley, Darian Minsa threw his worst pass of the entire game because one of my hot takes about the game as it went on and kind of re-washing it a little bit, the interception that Minsa threw was one of his best throws of the game, but that touchdown pass that Jordan Riley didn't go after was probably one of his worst throws of the game. So, god, my skin is crawling just thing. I remember seeing it was floating up there. Jordan Riley was loading up and I was like, what did you just make a plan on the ball, the kid? - Yeah, so I think that part of that is just not trusting your eyes and knowing what you see. And I think that that's something that's easily correctable because I mean, Jordan Riley took a lot of accountability Monday kind of talking about the play and he said that he saw the ball go up, saw where he was but didn't trust kind of where he was in relation to the ball and marquee seagull. So I think that that's one thing that's easily fixable. The other is just post-snap communication 'cause I think that there were some breakdowns there. And I also said this in our headline show with Mason that it was revealed Monday that there were times that case it was running man on one side of the field and zone on the other side of the field. And I think that you can do that when you have so much experience and theory. But once you get into a game action and you kind of see how it's going, if it doesn't work, that's maybe something that you need to just simplify and that's a quick fix. Because I mean, there were times where they would have man on one side of the field, zone on one side of the field, but then somebody on one side of the field wouldn't know which one that they were doing leading to somebody being wide open. So that's something that's easily fixable. You could say, okay, we're either just running man or we're just running zone. We're not going to do this kind of mix and match. So I think that that's fixable. And like you said, the Missouri game last year was almost as bad as the two-lane game last week. So you kind of look at that and where K-State went as the season went on. I'm not super worried, but this is going to be a test. Yeah, this Friday. I guess tomorrow as you're listening. Yeah, tomorrow as you're listening. So looking forward to tomorrow, what are going to be the biggest points of emphasis? You can throw keys to be. You can put whatever sort of spin you want on it, but what are you really going to be looking for as that game kicks off and gets going? I'm going to sound like Chris Cleven here for a second. Get explosive plays because Arizona's defense has been extremely leaky, especially against the past. I believe, shout out to KSC 100 score fan for this staff, but I believe that Arizona's defense is like 91st and success rate against the past. So they are not great against the past by any stretch of the imagination. So there should be some times where K-State can exploit that. And then just look at the explosive plays. Arizona lives on explosives. McMillan and Fafida are one of the best quarterback, wide receiver duos in entire country. McMillan kind of has that bill that has given K-State fits as well because he's 6'5". So Jacob Parrish and Ken Garber, both about that 5'10" to 5'11" range, you need to play big and really kind of adjust and make McMillan kind of feel them the entire way. And then win the turnovers. Noah Fafida, I did some kind of digging on, okay, what can be something like K-State can exploit. And when you're doing players to watch for the opponent, that's kind of like one thing that I really look for of because I don't want it to just be about, okay, this guy is like amazing. Like K-State really needs to do a good job with this. I want something that, okay, K-State can figure out something here and do this. In 11 career starts, Noah Fafida has thrown an interception and eat of them. So I think that that's something to really watch out for. And if you can take advantage of that, and this would be a great game to have like a pick six or a defensive score because that can be something that really ignites the crowd and gets the crowd going even more because I'm anticipating a pretty jacked crowd. - Yeah, I think it will. I don't know how many standing room only tickets. They released a handful of scattered singles at the beginning of the week. So I don't know if it'll be like a 52,000. I think it's gonna be like between a 5900, 51,000 crowd. I think it's gonna be pretty lit. If you had to do a score, I don't know if you've done your score prediction of KSO yet, but I won't hold it against you if it doesn't match up. But what's the score prediction that you're currently sitting with? - This has been a tough one for me because you kind of look at the game spread and Vegas, it seems as if Vegas wants you to bet on Arizona by giving K-State the seven and a half, which kind of, I call this like a Vegas nose kind of game because you're giving a team that is probably comparable to possessions. And typically that means that the team that they're giving the two possessions to still doesn't cover. So I would probably lean 34, 24, K-State. You kind of get to see a little bit of the offense coming back to life. And then the defense was playing better and kind of relying on the crowd, having this game. And to be honest with you, a lot of the, what I would call pepper games at home is such a huge advantage for K-State this year. - No, I'm right there with you. And I love that score. I was feeling something similar when I did my game preview because I kind of see the game going like, okay, K-State has relative ease. It's gonna be a tight one. I ended up with 34 to 31. And I had it, I have Arizona kicking a field goal in the fourth quarter with about six, seven minutes left, but then K-State rectifies what we saw last week. They're able to run the clock out for a 34, 31 win. So I'm at least in the same ballpark, but I like your score a lot better. So I'm hoping you're correct on this one. - Yeah, it just feels like a game where Vegas wants the public to be heavy on Arizona because they think that K-State could pull away. - I think I heard somewhere, I don't know if it was on the radio or if it was on someone else's podcast or if I saw it on Twitter. I think the number of bets are massive on Arizona, but the money is close to even implying that like, okay, a lot of the public going Arizona, some of the bigger money going K-State on that spread. So honestly, as long as it's a win, I don't care. - And you kind of look at that and then you think back to Missouri in 2022, I believe the opening line was K-State by like nine and a half, 10 and a half, and the public was pretty heavy on Missouri. I guess K-State didn't look sharp against South Dakota and Missouri, you kind of thought that they would be kind of comparable and then K-State blew the doors off of them. So you kind of see that and it's like, okay, that's why the hotels look so nice in Las Vegas. - Well, then last year at Missouri, everyone thinking K-State should roll and it was like almost a pick on that kickoff, right? It's like maybe K-State minus two, Missouri minus, it was like one possession game and Vegas does no. - Yeah, so you kind of look at that and that's why I lean more towards a two possession win for K-State. I think that the pass offense really takes its step. - I hope so, I hope so. All right, before we get into a little September recruiting update, and this is gonna end up being a longer Thursday conversation thanks to the banter up top, but wanna give a shout out to our sponsors, Charlie Hussle, first off, I'm wearing a Kansas City baseball collection t-shirt. Look, whole season baseball might be coming back to Kansas City and you better believe I will be rocking Charlie Hussle to any game I get out to in October. They have the best, most comfortable K-C baseball collection stuff in the world. But guess what, that's not all. They also have the best officially licensed K-State gear in the world. And look, if you're buying for a friend or family member who's not blessed enough to be a K-State fan, they have all the big 12, it's officially licensed stuff as well, if any Arizona fans are listening. Look, don't love you guys this week, but they got some pretty bomb stuff over at Charlie Hussle for you Arizona Wildcats as well. Vintage Made Fresh Monday, we have a massive giveaway you want to make sure you are tuned in at Bosco's voice at Charlie Hussle Monday. Somewhere around noon, we are going to launch it, you're not going to want to miss it. Like I said, Charlie Hussle, vintage made fresh, charlihustle.com or any, not anywhere, but a handful of locations in the Kansas City metro. All right, let's, quick little September recruiting update. What can you tell us about the most recent commitment? Brad Steiner, Steiner, Steiner. He had a pretty good camp. He's down in Grapevine, Texas. What can you tell us about the Texan who plays off the edge? - Yeah, I really like Brad Steiner. He is a big dude. Like he is around that 245, 250 range right now. And we'll probably be playing around that 275, 280 range. So he is much more Chidiobiizer and Travis Bates than like Toby Osen-Sami, which is something that Kasey has really prioritized. I mean, you saw Kasey miss out on Sean Hammerback of South Dakota, miss out on Kate Peter Jack of North Dakota. So they were kind of looking for that heavier defensive end and they found one with Brad Steiner. And I think that he is somebody that even though he doesn't have a lot of offers right now, it was good for Kasey to get on early and get the offer and get the commitment because playing at Grapevine, Texas, he's gonna have a lot of eyes on him. And it seems as if he's had a pretty good start to his season. And I just think that that's kind of a position that Kasey needed. You probably don't need him to play right away. So he can come in just kind of gain weight, get used to being in college. And then kind of unleash him because you look at what Kasey is doing right now with defensive ends. I mean, there was even a specific spot on the depth chart or that heavier defensive end spot. So it was a saw that was needed. And he, I believe, was a high school teammates but with Dalton Knapp or middle school before Dalton Knapp went to All Saints Episcopal, also in Grapevine, Texas. - Shout out to all of my Episcopalian brothers and sisters out there. Is there anyone that you would put currently on commit watch? I know the total number of commitments is starting to get up there. I wouldn't imagine there's a ton of spots left for this season, but is there anyone that you're keeping an eye on that might pop here soon? - Yeah, Omaha athlete, I'd say athlete now because we kind of, I don't know where his body's going to take him, but Darian Whitaker, a Boys Town high school at Omaha is the one that I'm really kind of keeping an eye on. He can play safety. He can play defensive end. He can play linebacker. He can kind of do a little bit of everything that you need him to do. And it's just going to depend on where his body goes because he is in that six, three, six, four range and 215, 220 pounds right now. He will be taking an official visit in October. So I think that it will probably be wrapped up after that. Kind of have a feeling it's been wrapped up for a while. It just hasn't been publicly announced yet. But he's somebody that I'm really, really excited about. He is not quite where Asa Newsom was at this time during his junior senior season. But he is pretty dang close because he was good at block destruction. And you just look at him and you're like, okay, that's a guy that Casey already has four linebackers and still offered him after he played linebacker at the camp. And that's how good he was. - Yeah, and again, those are some of the fun guys. It's like, okay, put him in 18 months of body by true and see where you line him up. So that'll be a fun one. Let's move into the guys who we'll be looking at for the 2026 class. Again, I always like to ask you about the end state. It's going to be another great year for 2026. What can you tell us about the progress the cats have made with some of those sunflower stand outs for 2026? How many times can I say 2026 in one question? Is this? - Well, it won't be as much as that I think that I have in a few recruiting videos. So I think that you're all good there. You look at the 2026 class. And it is a nice crop in Kansas so far. Tyra Parker of Shawn Heights is probably one to really know about he was back on campus. Yeah, in other to speak a cat potentially. He was back on campus for the UT Martin game. And that was his third visit in three months, two K-Sates who kind of see that and it's like, okay, there's really something kind of building there. So if he gets back to Manhattan for another game, I'll really kind of be interested to see where his recruitment falls then. JJ Dungan of Manhattan is another one that people should know about. Manhattan kid, K-Sate legacy. K-Sate probably in the top two, three schools, Nebraska and KU kind of working there as well. Ian Premer of Great Bend, tight end. K-Sate kind of turning into tight end you in state. K-Sate again and a good spot for him as well, probably in the top two or three schools. Braden Wilms of Lawrence Free State, I think is something that's kind of flown under the radar of how interested he is in K-Sate and how much K-Sate has really prioritized him. It will be interesting to see where his recruitment goes. KU, Minnesota, some other big 10 schools also involved with him. And for my money, I would probably have Braden Wilms as the number one player in the state in 2026. Ooh, high praise there, high praise there. Final question I'll ask is everyone's always interested. Who are some of the current commits that are having a hot start to their senior season? - Yeah, the one name that's really kind of popped out to me, it has been Logan Bartley. I haven't seen any of his film just yet, but I've heard really good things about how he has started his season. You look at Twitter and I feel like every Friday of Saturday now we're seeing Monterey, Wellston highlights and that's a guy that I think K-Sate fans will really, really like in the near future. He can really go, has as much shiftiness as anyone. And then the other one, I just kind of mentioned him earlier, but Daltonnap, I mean, if you look at his stat line from, I believe it was their game last Friday, I think he had five sacks, force of safety, had like nine tackles for a loss. So you look at that, that's about as good as you can do off the edge in a one game. - Yeah, he is someone who I think, I think say come 20, 27, folks are gonna be sitting back and thinking, how did K-Sate get their hands on another one of these guys? I think he's developing into one of the guys I'm most excited for in this 2025 class. - Yeah, he has really transformed himself into a more complete football player. He has a little bit of a get off now. He is bigger now. And I think that, again, with how K-Sate is using defensive ends, he is probably more of that Toby Osensami and Ryan Davis as opposed to like the Chidiobias are type. - So I said that was gonna be the last question, but I will bring this up because you see it way more intimately than any of us. How have you seen the change and how they are recruiting the defensive end position? Not just migrating down to from a forward to a three man front, but also having seemingly three different specialized spots. 'Cause I feel like they've zeroed in on who they want, what type of player they want in all three of those and they're executing that to a T. - Yeah, it looks like the one spot is like a primary pass rush specialist, if I can speak. And that's like the, what you see with the Brendan Mott, Toby Osensami. Then one that is heavier, but not quite like as heavy as like a Chidiobias or Travis Bates, that's kind of what you're seeing with Cody Stuffel being. Jordan Allen was kind of in that mix as well. And then one spot that is kind of, what I would call the heavy defensive end, but you see when Travis Bates go out there, it goes out there that a lot of times he actually lines up on the inside. So I think that's kind of like what if you play NCAA 25 would be kind of like that rushed defensive tackle position because he's a defensive end that plays on the inside and gets to kind of get free reign on the quarterback because he has been a havoc producer in the first two games. - I love it. Well, Drew, you are a busy man, what? Two, three, four times a week on K-State Online YouTube page, all sorts of content over on the websites. Anyone who listens to our show knows how much we love the work you're doing, but you can brag on yourself, plug anything you want, and then we'll let you get ready for coordinator availability here soon down at the Vinnie or Family Football Complex. - Yeah, so just subscribe to our YouTube. Yeah, well, we have videos every day. We're still trying to make it work to have like a Sunday show for this week, kind of talking about the two lane game and previewing Arizona, but kind of see how that goes. And then just make sure to subscribe to K-State Online. We kind of week grind out every week and have the same content for every game. So like you're looking at the Arizona game this week, even though it's a shorter week, it's still busting it out and getting everything up and already, and then we'll have recruiting coverage after the game because even though it's a Friday night game, we'll still get visitors. - Yep, I absolutely love that. Well, Drew, I don't think this will be the last time you show up on Thursday conversations. We love getting our recruiting updates with you. I wanna thank you. It's everyone listening. We will have whip around show tomorrow. So I spoke with someone from an Arizona podcast. So that's gonna be in there. The plan is to have Mason from K-State Online, so a heavy KSO week, giving the K-State primer. We got a big 12 game of the week primer. Sons of UCF, previewing UCF versus TCU, the first conference game this week. I'll have any takeaways from the coordinators. We got two big games for a K-State volleyball and soccer going on Thursday. I don't know if I will put together the whip around show before after those. But if it's before, make sure you're watching on Thursday, but we'll touch on what kind of has been a little bit of a disappointment from volleyball to start the season. But hey, I'll talk about that tomorrow. So Ford drew Galloway, Ford Chauncey, the best dog in the world. My name's Scott McFarland.
