Psalm 62 verse 9, "Lowborn men are but a breath. The highborn are but a lie. If weighed on a balance they are nothing. Together they are only a breath." Here's a good reminder that the way we normally look at the world or think the way things work isn't necessarily the way God works. You know, we look at a lowborn person or a highborn person and we see all these differences. There's great power in wealth and we think that there's, you know, whatever in poverty. Even some people think that there's only blessing if you're not rich. You know, we have all these mixed up ideas of the highborn and the lowborn. Those are interesting phrases the Psalmist uses. But if you keep reading that Psalm, Psalm 62 in the 12th verse, the 11th and 12th verse, it says, "Power belongs to God and God, O Lord belongs steadfast love." I think what we're to take away from a Psalm like this is don't look at the things that this world says either has or lacks power. You might have power in a poor person. You might have power in a high person in a wealthy person. Forget about all that. It says that's basically meaningless. Instead, look to God. Look to God. Measure your scales on God's power. And then everything else in this world will begin to make sense. I mean, it doesn't the biblical narrative flesh this out, you know, even Mary and her magnificat. And she's so lowly yet God shows her to bring his son into the world. And he makes the wisdom of this world foolish and foolishness wisdom. And he's constantly flipping things around, but we look to him for power. We look to him for truth. We look to him for authority. We look to him for that steadfast love always. Things may not always be as they appear in the economy of God. Yeah, we actually addressed this a while ago several, maybe a few weeks ago. And the way I would summarize it is that the church loses its way when it starts getting into groupthink. When we're talking about the Bible and we're talking about Mary or Jesus, we're talking about something that is individual, a person or Job or David or Saul or anybody, good or bad. When we stop thinking about Christianity is about Jesus Christ, etc, etc. And beyond that, I mean, it's a lot beyond that, but it's about Jesus Christ as the Son of God who came in to save you and me from our sins and to enlist us in his, you know, great enterprise, which is, you know, basically the biblical narrative going towards the future. But when we start thinking of groups, we lose the heart of Christianity, don't we? Absolutely.
