It's been a pleasure to have you guys and have a great day and have you been here today. Thank you so much. Have a great day. Have a great day. Have a great day. Thank you. It's been a great day. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. You're welcome. It's been a pleasure to have you guys. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. So my daughters have a whole bunch of festivities going on, but we're here, baby. Second week of the NFL season and I am ready to jump in. Well, we are not alone here on this episode. We ate big dog. No, we ain't. We teased it last week. We were trying to get him on scheduling. Did not work quite well and we kind of wanted to just, you know, start the season off slowly. Just ease our way into it, knock the rust off a little bit. Week one, which I feel like is exactly what we did, but we wanted to push Kevin Watson to week two, and now obviously he is here joining us on this preview show. Last time we talked to him was January in the playoffs too long. So a lot has changed since the last time we talked to Kevin specifically with the Houston Texans, not only on the field in terms of their roster, but also on the field with the way that their team looks just period and they're one of the new look teams that we saw debut some new uniforms this year. We'll obviously pick his brain on that, but Kevin, thank you so much for joining. And, you know, taking a little bit of this week to slate off of our plate. So, Kip, what's up boys, Mike, Terry, I definitely been too long for sure, but doesn't seem that long ago. I'm glad that the season's here week one, what a week. It's an exciting time just for football to be back, exciting time to be a Texans fans. A lot of time, a lot of things have like changed over the off season. I thought I was excited last season, this season's even more so. It's just a, yeah, I'm just glad that football's bad, glad to be on talking with y'all, glad to be back with the Funkeys, so I'm ready to get into it. Well, we will do just that. Obviously, there's a lot of games that we have to draft here, just given that we have a full week. No bi-weeks yet, still got a few weeks before that actually comes into effect, but we're not going to draft the primetime games. You guys already know how these drafts work, except we have Kevin draft them with us now too. Obviously, we're going to get in the first. Hey, but before we get into the draft, let's go ahead and knock these primetime games out really quickly here. We'll start with the Thursday night game. That's the one that's going to happen first. It's divisional matchup. Obviously, we saw both of these teams get a win in week one. The Bills were in a thrilling game with the Arizona Cardinals, and then the Miami Dolphins had to defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars, obviously, and they had all their own festivities going on before they won, which now, because of body cam footage and things like that, we're actually starting to get a lot more information and insight to exactly what happened in that little incident. That's neither here nor there, but they have a quick turnaround. Luckily, they are at home again, starting both games in Miami to start their season. This time against the Buffalo Bills, though. Yeah, the CDS Bills. I saw a clip earlier today, and I kind of shared it, obviously, in one of our group chats that Dalton Kincade has been absolutely smothered. Specifically, obviously, week one, just if you look at some of the all 22 footage that has come out, I think that Kincade is going to be the one person on the Bills offense that you know you have to shut down, the one person that you know, "All right, we can't let this guy beat us." He's going to be the guy that they try to use to move the sticks. He's going to be the possession receiver who just passed catcher. It's going to keep a lot of their drives alive. That's what the Bills want to do. You want a healthy dose of James Cook, but also, I mean, there's no Gabe Davis. Tophant Diggs isn't walking through those doors, so somebody has to be on the receiving end of the passing game that is Josh Allen, who's usually a year in, year out MVP candidate, but it's hard to be an MVP candidate when you don't have pass catchers or you didn't replace some of the weapons that you lost. The Cardinals are a team that you really don't know what to expect. They didn't get their weapons involved last week either. So how much did the Bills actually get tested? They're going to get tested this week. Damn right there. The defensive backs absolutely are going to get tested. On the road, do you think that the Bills, given that you're familiar with this division, early in the season, we know the Dolphins usually start hot. That's whenever it's tough to beat these guys. With everything going on, you know, still, and the fact that the Bills are still one of the better teams in football, do you think they go into Miami and get it done? Well, you got to look, too, Josh Allen has owned this team. I think he's 11 to the record, his record coming into this game, and everybody's putting it to that only because, you know, he is Josh Allen. He can take over the games. He will put on the Cape and show you that his team will fight into the end, and I have no doubt that he'll come into this game and fight as hard as he can, but like he said, he has no weapons on the outside that can contain or very yet hang with what they got going on the other side. That track made that Maserati car that the Miami Dolphins are driving. I think what the Bills can do on offense, the Dolphins can do tenfold and put points on the board. If you can't put points on the board and try to beat or contain this offense, the Dolphins defense looked amazing last week, so I think they will be able to put it on, Josh Allen, make them look a little bit human-like this week, and he'll bring them down this week. You know, it's a road game turning over really quick on Thursday, going to play in the heat. I just don't see everything this marks up to go against the Dolphins or the Bills, so I really think that the Dolphins will have this game. They'll go out 2-0 and, you know, take command of our division. Kev, do you think Josh Allen will have any success this week or, you know, a Christian Wilkin-less defense last week kind of showed out, do you think that defense will hang tight? I think the Dolphins defense did look pretty good. I do feel like it's, I don't know, I feel like Josh Allen just kind of has a will to win. Like, if he has to do it himself and put the team on his back, he has to like run it in just to give him and he doesn't really have that many pass-catchers this year. Keon Coleman led their receivers last week, which impressive for him, but I just, I don't know that they're going to have enough firepower to get it done against, like you said, that, you know, that high-powered sports car there in the Dolphins' offense this time around, so I don't think they're going to have enough to get it done against the Dolphins this week. Yeah, it's earlier in the season, it's one of those games. If it took place a few months down the line, maybe I'd have a different outcome. Yeah. Excuse me, I'm going with the Miami Dolphins here at home. Clean slate. So, let's go. Let's go to the Sunday night game. Chicago Bears, Houston Texans, this is an interesting match up here. These two teams very familiar with each other. In fact, just their, I guess, history even goes back as to determining which quarterback the Houston Texans ended up getting because, you know, obviously Lovey Smith, that whole story. Texas ended up getting the second pick in the draft instead of the first pick in the draft. Now the Texans end up with their franchise quarterback and he's going one-on-one against another young threat. Didn't we see if I'm not mistaken, these two teams play in the Hall of Fame game? Yeah, but Caleb Williams. No starters play it all. Yeah, no starters. Yeah, Caleb Williams didn't play at all. I don't remember. It's just, but it's Texans in Texas. I do think Stroud and them went out there for like one drive. If I'm not mistaken, but Caleb Williams didn't play at all. Either way, just seeing these two teams matched up with each other, it looked, I was like, hold on. Like, didn't we just see this? Not that long ago. We did. Yeah, the first dose of football that we got. Now here we are Sunday night in NRG Stadium. The Chicago Bears serve. They just looked a little bit out of sync, a little bit flunky last week, since he tightens offense. Isn't quite in mid-season form. You know, it looked like a little bit like it's supposed to. Like they're starting to get the hang of it. Like they just added a new RB one. Like they just added a new wide receiver one in Calvin Ridley. And just, you know, obviously got some new weapons, a new scheme altogether with their new coaching staff. So it looked like what it was supposed to look like in a way. They didn't end up losing that game. So you don't have to give credit to the Chicago Bears. But I feel like with Bobby Sloey and with the Houston Texans offenses, they're not going to be skipping a beat. You know, they're not going to be just stepping on their foot, tossing the ball to the sideline, even you in easy pick six. I feel like you're going to have to earn your points in this game. And the fact that you're on the road, prime time. Yeah, we might get a pretty good welcome to the NFL moment for Caleb Williams here, not necessarily in a drastic way, one way or the other. Like he's not going to go out there and throw for 400. He might not have the worst game of his rookie season. But I do believe this is going to be the true, like, introducing him to the football world. Yes, I think, you know, his first prime time game is first, you know, big game in a Bears uniform. And the fact that CJ Strauss on the other side, like we have two young quarterbacks going at it. Marketing is definitely going to be good. A good football. So good that we're changing our review schedule up a little bit. So we can make sure not only that Kevin gets the chance to watch his favorite team, but also, you know, Terry and I as well, we want to be able to get a get our eyes on this game. So, you know, we're looking forward to that. But I will go with the home team, kind of keep the trend going with the Thursday night game, picking the dolphins. I picked the Texans to get it done at home as well against the NFC foe, Chicago Bears. Yeah, this is an easy pick for me. This is going to be an easy Texas victory. I'm going to say easily, very, very loosely, not that they're going to run away with this game. I think just visually, you're going to see a team that is dominant and that has learned from the stake that they put on tape last week. I think this team is very balanced. One of the most balanced well coached teams in an NFL. And obviously, like last week, I said, you got to go with somebody that's already proven, right? You got to go with somebody that you know that's going to maintain his calmness in big game scenarios. This is a big game. It is early in the season, but prime time, early victories are a must. And I think the Houston Texans is just a better team. So I believe this is going to be an easy one for him to win. I, uh, I mean, obviously I too am going with the home team. The Congo Bears. Oh, but we're going to see what's up. We're going to see what Caleb Williams is about. See if you learned anything from last week. He is a rookie, so you know, things are going to happen. They relied heavily on their defense last week against the Tennessee Titans offense, who definitely struggle. But Bears give a big place to Tony Pollard. That secondary is really good, but I just don't know that, you know, how they're going to do against CJ in our offense. We'll see what's up. If we can run mixin' like we ran him, it's going to be really tough for 18. We had the ball for 40 minutes last week. That's, you know, that's what you do. And that's the thing with that game. CJ doesn't hit that third and 11. We don't pick up that first down. That's like, that's the old Texans. Like, we would have fucking punted that shit. They would have went down there, and they would have kicked a figgle and they'd have won that shit. Yeah. Now, like, this time, like, no, we're going out there. We're ending the game with us having the ball. I just, ah, man, I'm fucking excited. Yeah, it's a great feeling when it's your team ice in the game. Your team that has the ball and, yeah, has the ball in the last scenario. So I just believe there's going to be another way of how they're going to win this one. They're going to have the ball at the last series. And, you know, if it comes down to a kicker kicking the ball, shoot, y'all got it. If you've got, if it comes down to having CJ having the ball in his hands, I feel the most comfortable. Well, I wish I felt comfortable the next game we're going to talk about. It's Monday night. Falcons didn't have a primetime game last year, did you know that? No, I didn't know that. So it's been a while. It's been a while. And we all know how historically great Kirk has plays and plays. Yeah, big Gabe Kirk. And not only that, but obviously the Falcons took care of business in week one and handled their business at home against what you would say. It was an inferior team just from top to bottom. You know, that's not a shot of the Steelers. I mean, there was a reason why the Falcons were favored in that game. Yeah. You know, so going into Philly Monday night, I could tell you from experience, I've been to Philly for a primetime game and I wouldn't recommend it for anybody. Legitimately, the city itself. Yeah, cool, whatever. But dude, the stadium, the fans, all that as like a part of the package, makes it 100% not worth it, wouldn't recommend it. It'll absolutely be a negative experience. I don't know if anybody's ever gone to Philly. Is there a story out there? Have anybody ever gone to Philly? Oh my gosh, I had a great time with the fans were so welcoming. Because I've been to fanbases. I've been to stadiums, opposing stadiums where the opposing fans are awesome. You know, Denver specifically, I'm glad you remember that. Clearly I've referenced this several times, but also, you know, I went to Houston with Kevin. That was a great time as well. I mean, I guess it's hard to have a bad time when you're literally sitting in the same row as Grady Jared's mom. So no one's going to be throwing any fun. But that was a great time as well. Obviously, but I mean, this game, here we are, 2024. I mean, it's tough. I would love to say, yeah, the Falcons are going to get it done. But man, they proved to me last week that you can't trust them. You can't just go out here and pick them, especially to win a game on the road. Although I will say defensively, just looking at the way that this game is going to match up. Yeah. Am I crazy for thinking the Steelers have a better defense than the Eagles? Well, right now in this scenario, no. I mean, what they did last week, the Eagles were completely horrendous. On defense. The Eagles linebackers, I feel like that's an area where you can't attack them. Yes, they have a strong defensive line, but so do the Steelers. So I feel like that's a little bit of a wash. And yeah, we got our game absolutely wrecked. Like, is somebody going to do what TJ Watt did in week one? Absolutely not. If they do, then it's like, OK, well, the Steelers did that too. And I think the other areas, like the back end of the defense, that's where you can run. There's no make-up if it's Patrick Roman around the Eagles defense. Well, I can tell you right now there, why we are going to be on the road. It is going to be primetime against a very good playoff opponent. And we could switch it to the other side of the ball where the Eagles got nightmare matchups compared to what the Steelers had. George Pickens was taking AJ Terrell's lunch. What do you think AJ Brown's going to do to him? So yeah, this is going to be an offensive game. I think that because obviously our defense asked, they did pretty good, but this is a whole nother matchup, a whole nother level of opponent. They play in the same state, but that's about all the similarities go out the window after that. I think this is going to be a tough matchup for the Falcons. I'm going to be honest. I'm definitely going to pick the Eagles at home. The Falcons struggled to beat the Eagles, especially in Philadelphia. Yeah. And they have not given me a reason to go out on a limb and pick them. So yes, I am going to go with the Eagles to get the home win on Monday night. Yeah, I always will go with the Eagles. Simply the fact, because Sequin looked amazing last week, he just looked like he belonged with that team. They jive so well. It looked like from the jump, that offense, I think they started out slow. I think the first drive, but after that, they just kicked into another gear, and I think they'll find another one, and then another one. And then another one after that, this is just a well-oiled machine on offense. And once they find their groove in a game like this, where they could control the tempo and try things out that they see that will help them in the future, I believe this is going to be a game where they could do those type of things. And have some success. It just depends on how lifeless the offense is, referencing the Falcons. If the guys can come out and contend, get guys open, let Kurt take some of the pressure off of Kurt, because you know, everybody's going to be yearping in his ear about prime time, big game Kurt, all that shit. All the outside noise, I just don't think that that just helps in his favor. So with that on top of, just the Eagles not going to be looking like how they did last week, I think the defense is going to take a step forward as well. I just think it just spells disaster and not a good game too. Like I balanced back game for the Falcons. So give me the Eagles. I do think things will look a lot better on the offense, obviously, for the Falcons. But I think this is going to be a monster that people are going to try to keep contained, but they're going to wake up the beast here soon and see how well that the Falcons can move the ball. I wouldn't love to pick the Falcons because I cannot stand the Eagles. But I think it's going to be tough. I do think it's going to be a closer game than everyone thinks. Maybe Kurt Cousins in the offense kind of like clicks this time around, finding maybe some rhythm this week or something, and that Eagles offense, you never know. Saquon did look really good. So that's kind of the one thing that I think kind of like determines it all. But last year they proved that they couldn't show up and when it mattered. So I just don't know. But I am going to take the Eagles. Smart pick, smart pick. Well, that does it for us here on this episode of the Football Function podcast. The episode is going to drop tomorrow. It's going to be the full week one preview where we are going to draft all these games. We're going to figure out exactly which games we're going to be watching, which games are going to be responsible. So that episode is going to be dropping tomorrow. Stay tuned for that. But for now, you guys have a damn good evening while passionately in the direction of your dreams. We'll talk to you soon.
