Locked On 49ers - Daily Podcast On The San Francisco 49ers

POSTCAST: Mason Marches All Over Jets in 49ers Week One Victory

The San Francisco 49ers started off the 2024 season on a high note as they throttled the New York Jets 32-19 in week one of the NFL season. Christian McCaffrey was a late scratch, paving the way for Jordan Mason's first career start and he made the most of it. Jordan Mason mauled the New York Jets defense for 147 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries. The pass game never got to full speed tonight, but it did not matter as the San Francisco 49ers scored on eight consecutive drives. Jake Moody was another bright spot for the San Francisco 49ers as he tied a franchise record with six field goals, including two from 50+ yards out. The San Francisco 49ers travel to take on the Minnesota Vikings in week two.

Yo, what's up everyone and welcome back to the Lockdown 49ers postcast. I'm your host, Eric Triple E. Ingle. You may know me as the former producer for the Murph and Mack Morning Show on KMBR and Man-O-Man, Jordan, Panchaz Mason, and his thunderous punishing runs paved the way for 49ers week one win over the New York Jets final score from Levi's 32 to 19. The 49ers scored on eight consecutive drives despite the pass game never hitting that fifth year tonight. And Jake Moody, who had some pretty inconsistent stretches last season for the 49ers, drills, six field goals tonight, ties a franchise record, and two of them were from 50 plus, not a bad way to start off the 2024 NFL season. And this one got off on the right foot for the 49ers, you know, these were the first team on the board that first drive stalled out. And that was the only stalled drive the 49ers had the entire game every other drive except for the final one of the game where they just went out and took a knee, they ended up putting some points on the board. That first scoring drive for the Niners came after Fred Warner forced a fumble on, I think it was like the first play from scrimmage for the Jets. That Breeze Hall took a, took a hand off to the outside and Fred Warner came in and punched that thing right on out with that peanut punch, all pro Fred picking up right where he left off man. Fred Warner was flying around that defense today, sideline to sideline, making tackles in the, in the, getting in the passing lanes and disrupting things to Fred Warner was everywhere tonight. And even when he wasn't at the center of, wasn't the guy making the, the first hit on a, on a gang tackle, he was around the ball the entire night, which is, I mean, we expect nothing less from 54 all pro Fred, plan like the man's hair is on fire. Man, I, I, I get some, I know he's not Patrick Willis, nobody's Patrick Willis. But the sideline to sideline speed that Fred Warner has just really reminds me of P Willie every time he's out there, I mean, he doesn't quite have that same, that fear. I don't think that, that Patrick Willis strikes in his opponents, but Fred Warner, man, oh man, for my money, he's the best linebacker in all of football right now. I'm so glad that this guy is a 49er would have really liked a touchdown on that first turn over considering the Niners got the ball with a short field and couldn't really do anything. But early on, the Jets D line, which is one of the best D lines in all of football was getting into that backfield early and off and Quinn and Williams was, was really wreaking havoc. They were moving them all over the line and he got a, got a clean shot in on, on Brock after he was lined up against Colton McKivett's and just blew by him on that, on the outside corner. Weird that this guy can do just as much damage on the outside of the line as he can on the inside of line that this D line and they didn't even have his son Redick, which is kind of scary to think about if the Jets get him back, they can get him on the field and play. This D line is going to be, I mean, one of the best in all of football, which is a really good sign for the 49ers because this 49ers old line came out and bullied the Jets. I mean, they just came out there and pushed them around and ran the ball all over him with Jay Jordan Mason, Jay Jordan Panchas Mason, JP Mason. He just really ran rough shot all over the Jets today. This guy got his first career start and ended up with 28 carries, 147 yards and a tub and you probably heard Joe Buck saying it on the, on the broadcast, but this is the most carries, the 28 carries that he has had in his pro career or in his college career too. Never had that many carries at Georgia Tech. So Jordan Mason really putting the team on his back today and I mean, it seemed like this guy couldn't go backwards. Every time that he touched the ball, he was breaking at least one tackle and falling forward for a positive gain every single time trying to keep this offense on schedule and doing a great job. The 49ers really, really leaning on Jake Moody's leg today as he drills six different field goals. Two of them were from 50 plus after the 49ers got on the lead or got on the board first with that three nothing lead after a Jake Moody field goal after that Fred Warner peanut punch to force the fumble. The Jets come back with a long touchdown drive and that the 49ers did not look super great on that drive. The, the D line was having a really hard time getting pressure on Aaron Rodgers. I credit that Jets offensive line, which has some dudes on it for, for really keeping Aaron Rodgers in a clean pocket early on in this game and give him Breece Hall a little bit of room to run, not a ton, but just enough is he ended up in the end zone on that first drive, but overall for a, for, on a day where, you know, Breece Hall is expected to be a lot of people are saying RB one, at least in fantasy terms this year. I mean, he, he only had 16 carries for 54 yards. Yes, he did get into the end zone, but overall, really good job by the 49ers defense bottling this really dangerous runner up in the backfield and not letting him really have too many explosives. You know, it's your great pop in talking about the explosive plays of that the 49ers get on this offense time and time and time again while they were really limiting the Jets on their explosives tonight, but they did score on that first drive March right down the field. Aaron Rodgers converted three different third downs on that drive and I mean, the Jets had had not converted more than two third downs on a single drive all of last season. They, they, I mean, it was a bunch of third and medium to longs and he just had clean pockets every single time. As I said though, the run D looked pretty good, paid off in a Jets touchdown and after that, it was all 49ers. They got the ball back and had a short drive that stalled out, but Moody had a 50 plus yard field goal looked great, much more consistent than last year and he actually banked in a field goal in this one too. So I mean, had a little luck on his side to a tie that 49ers franchise record. I did not have luck on my side tonight as I went against Jake Moody in fantasy and lost because this guy had a massive, massive, massive night. Not only in fantasy, obviously, but for the 49ers, I mean, six field goals is nothing to sneeze at, especially when this kid had such an issue last year with hitting me, some of these chip shot field goals, he was missing ones from like 40 from like 40 to 50 yards, 30 to 40 yards, more than you should for a, for a guy that they went out and drafted. I mean, you draft in a kicker, you're expecting this guy to hit these, hit these field goals. It looks like that draft pick is finally paying off. I mean, he wouldn't have a terrible season last year. I don't hate Jake Moody. I think he's going to be just fine and I always kind of thought that too. He's got that big leg, but last year, it was a little bit of an adventure with him. This year gets off on the perfect foot for, for Jake Moody. I see what I did there, the perfect foot for the, for the 49ers kicker. Okay, I'll stop with the dad jokes now, but I really am encouraged by this because this was something that was a big issue for the 49ers in certain spots last season and to have a guy that he can rely on to consistently drill kicks from 40, 50 plus is big. I mean, there's a lot of kickers in the NFL that can do this, but the 49ers need to be in that group of teams that has one of these guys. If you want to win a few, if you want to win a Super Bowl, I mean, we don't, we don't need to go back and rehash what happened against the Chiefs last February, but I need Jake Moody to be ready when, when the time arises, you know what I mean? And days like this are going to be a great mental boost for a guy like that. Well, I'm sure it was down on himself at various points in time last season at the, in the second quarter, the 49ers finally started getting that pass rush home on Aaron Rodgers, sacked him on a third down and Jordan Mason really started to get into the groove in that quarter too. There was a driver they opened with six consecutive rushes and it was Mason on almost every single play just marching the 49ers down the field and so Brock Purdy on a second and 19 hits a big first down pass to Juwan Jennings to put the 49ers in the red zone. And there were a ton of penalties on this drive. This was a huge drive for the 49ers because if this drive had stalled out, I mean, they were only, they were trailing seven to six. So if they got a field goal instead of a touchdown on this drive, this would have completely changed the trajectory of this game with, but instead the 49ers go out there, march down the field. And even though they had a couple, they had a Jordan Mason touchdown that was called back for a holding penalty against Debo, you had a Debo on a screen and juice was called for an offense, a PI, they later picked up that penalty, but it just seemed like very clunky there at the end and the Niners, thankfully didn't get out of their rhythm. They were able to push through that and get that ball into the end zone, Debo rushing touchdown to cap it off and Mason brought them down all the way, all the way to within the three yard line. I mean, I kind of felt bad for the guy because at that point he hadn't gotten into the end zone. And he was clearly in that bell cow role for the 49ers all day long, that Debo touchdown, however, makes it a 13 to 7 49ers lead and then later on in that second quarter, man, I just, I got to talk about it because this, this just drives me insane, grinds my gears every time I see Nick Bosa just get mauled on the outside and there is no flag in sight. And this one was especially bad, Nick Bosa got put like in a full on head block on third down, but it was not called, they called a different penalty on the plate. They called an illegal formation on the Jets anyway. So it ended up not really mattering, but I mean, Nick Bosa got like, there was a hand around his throat and there's no flag. I don't know what type of blocking that is, but I to my knowledge, you're not allowed to grab somebody in the throat and move them as an offensive lineman. I'm pretty sure that's a penalty of some sort, you know, holding unnecessary roughness. Whatever you want to call it should have been a flag. And Nick Bosa has probably the worst flag in all the football. I get it. If you're going to just just watch him and as a, as a ref and you're just, you're just going to be throwing flags the entire game with a guy like that, but I mean, what are you going to do? Just not call this. It was absolutely wild to me that this guy that Nick Bosa had a literal hand around his throat and it was not called, but that's, that's just the life of Nick Bosa when you're that good, you got to be even better because you're never going to get any calls going your way then that final drive of the second quarter, the 49ers take a time of time off the clock, Kyle Shanahan, very, very, very borderline lacks a days ago with the, with the clock management there. And we've seen Kyle and his clock management before, but I will say I did want the 49ers to play for the touchdown here. And instead it kind of seemed like they went for the layup with the field goal. It did give them a 16 to seven halftime lead. So it's a, it's a two score lead at that point. And I get it. That's a, that's, that's essential. You need to at least get points on that drive, like bare minimum, but I would have liked to see the 49ers have more than two shots at the end zone. You had a lot of time left earlier on in that drive. I think that they could have gone down and given themselves a touchdown and put themselves in an even better situation going into half, but honestly it really did not matter because out of the halftime, the 49ers had, I mean a drive for the ages, a, a seven minute and 18 second drive out of the half. They marched down to score a touchdown, Jordan Mason again with the powerful thundering runs all, all drive long and into the end zone and 11 plays, 70 yard drive that went seven minutes and 18 seconds right out of the half and gave the 49ers back to back scores without the jets ever touching the ball, puts the 49ers up. They were 13 to set leading 13 to seven. The last time the jets had the ball instead they're leading 23 to seven the next time they give it back to the jets. So that's a huge pivot point in this game. It was five straight scoring drives for the 49ers at that point and on that drive, the past game started to come alive a little bit. It started to show up in the two minute drill right before halftime, but Brock uncorked a huge 34 yard pass to juice on the drive, converted a couple of third downs, big, big drive for Brock on this one, although Brock didn't have statistically wise like the best day as a quarterback. He went 19 for 29 with 231 yards and no touchdowns, no picks. So Brock was, I mean, should we say game manager efficient? I mean, that's a, you know, generally speaking, a term people don't like when you throw that around with quarterbacks, but I mean, Brock sometimes just needs to be a game manager. In this situation, in this game, the Niners were up by so much that they didn't need him to go out. I mean, what you want him when they're up 20, 23 to seven to go out there and start throwing the ball all over the yard. Like no, Jordan Mason was doing everything that the 49ers needed from an offensive standpoint on the ground and looked so good that you didn't want to go away from him and change up this game plan at all you wanted to keep feeding the beast and let Jordan Mason go to work. Then after the 49ers took that 23 to seven lead a huge defensive play as Demo Lenore does a great job in single coverage, breaking up a pass intended for Garrett Wilson, who was having a really good night up to this point, Demo Lenore gets in there, jumps around the big body of Garrett Wilson, it gets a hand into the mix, tips the ball up in the air and wouldn't you know it? Demetrius Flanagan fouls comes down with the pick just right place, right time. You know what T-Rock says, Tim Ryan, the color broadcaster for the San Francisco 49ers on their radio network. You know what he says, tips and overthrows got to get those in this situation. The 49ers Demetrius Flanagan fouls got that tip and snared it, I mean it was a great play by the 49ers, awesome, awesome, awesome defensive possession, and did you see Aaron Rogers face when he threw that pick, man, all bugged his eyes looked like they're going to pop out of his head and maybe he just, I don't know, looks like he came out of another darkness retreat or an ayahuasca trip or something, man, I'm not an Aaron Rogers guy, I don't know, I mean, former Murph and Mac producer, you think I'm an Aaron Rogers guy, me and Polly Mac are like this on this one, I hate Aaron Rogers and his stupid face and his stupid mustache and his stupid looking beard and just stupid, all of them stupid, I work Stanford games, I don't like the fact that he was a Cal Bear either, I don't like anything about Aaron Rogers, I don't like the fact that he's, you know, kind of had some backhanded remarks about the 49ers ever since they didn't draft him and he went over to Green Bay and yeah, I know, would have been nice to maybe have a quarterback of that caliber around the 49ers for some of those seasons, but blank him, you know what I mean, blank that guy and is a big old bug eyes and so, you know, Aaron Rogers, hold that pick and 49ers come right back out, kick another field goal, because that's all they were doing tonight, six consecutive scoring drives for the 49ers and it was a 26 to 7 lead at that point and on this drive, Brock Purdy did some really nice things, there was a really nice throw that he had to Jennings on a play action for a first down, I used his eyes and shoulders to fake the zone defender and make them go left and find the crossing Jennings to the defenders right, it was a great, great, great, a heady veteran quarterback play by Brock Purdy and that's really all you need from this guy at this point in time in this game is just keep on schedule, make those first down throws when you need them and turn around and hand the rock to JP Mason and let him to seal a phrase from Marshawn Lynch, keep pounding that potato right up the middle and that's exactly what this guy did, then in the fourth quarter, the 49ers defense, this was all just, you know, formalities at this point, it seemed like the 49ers were just cruising to a win, they hold the Jets on third and one and fourth and one to force a turnover on downs and then Jake Moody just for fun hits another field goal on a drive that stalled at the Jets five-yard line, fourth and one and it was, it was a, again, a very, very, very solid performance from this 49ers defense, Moody tacked on another field goal before the end of the game, had to give the Niners that 32, 13 lead and then the Jets scored a garbage down touchdown to Allen Lazard to bring us to our final score of 32 to 19 and the 49ers, as I said, scored every single time they touched the ball except for that opening possession which went three and out and ended in a punt in that very final possession of the game where they brought in Brandon Allen to take a knee and so that's exactly how I want, every single 49ers game to be ended is with number 17 going out there and taking a knee, I want this thing to be so in hand every single week that we don't even need Brock out there on the final possession, that's where I'm at with this 49ers team and what a win, man, I mean, things could have gone better, don't get me wrong, like the, the pass game didn't look super well oiled, there was a lot of 49ers penalties tonight, 49ers with a ton of penalty yards but you know, no turnovers, 401 total yards, you hold the Jets to 220 or 266 total yards and you force two turnovers and you get 24 for first downs and you hold the Jets to just 14 time a possession 49ers dominated, 38 minutes and 40 seconds to the Jets 21 minutes and 20 seconds, you can win a lot of football games like that if the time of possession numbers are looking that way at the end of games. We got to take a quick break here on the lockdown 49ers postcast, I don't want to take a break, man, I'm having fun, this was a great 49ers win a very fun start to the 2024 season but we got to take a break. Real quick right here on the other side, more from this game, I want to go into into this defense a little bit, we spent a lot of time talking about this, this, this offense and how much the run game was a factor and I also want to take a brief look at the offensive line because big boys up front, they, they were doing their jobs that, that pile was pushing forward every single time JP Mason was touching the ball. So let's take a quick break here, get into more of those things on the other side. This is the lockdown 49ers postcast, I'm your host Eric Tripoli Ingle, we'll be right back. Are you kidding me? And tonight it started off great, man. I had Deebo Samuel for a more than half a touchdown. And that happened real quick early on. And I also had George Kittle for more than half a touchdown. I thought it was going to be a big night for Kittle, man. He wasn't really a big part of this offense today, at least receiving the ball, but blocking of course, George Kittle played a big, big, big factor in this. The 49ers smack the Jets 32 to 19, open up the season with the win and knocking that guy who I don't like very much over there. Aaron Rogers down, just knock him down a notch. You know what I mean? Take that guy down just a little bit because I mean, he's sitting over there clapping cheer in all, all happy as the Jets are losing in this game. And man, you know, that guy, you know, it's eating him alive inside like he's going to put on that, that positive face for the team. But you know, that guy in his true nature has a D bag, man, like deep down, that guy is not very, that I know that that guy's not too happy about this loss. But with the loss, he's now six and eight all time versus the 49ers, you know, some some pretty memorable losses. And in those, in those games, you know, the, the, my favorite one was one that Brian Murphy actually had an oil painting commissioned up with Rogers walking off the field in Green Bay and his head all sulking and as you look so sad. But the 49ers, you know, just keep, you know, whooping that a and I love to see it, man. There isn't many other teams that I like to beat more than I like to beat Aaron Rogers teams when I'm watching 49ers wins in this defense. We've talked so much about this offense, man, let's talk about this defense because they held down Aaron Rogers in a big way tonight. Dude, after coming out on fire in that first drive, I think he only had like one in completion, maybe two in completions, like after those first two drives, he was 13 of 21 to finish this game with only 167 yards. He did have one touchdown, but also had that one pick, shout out Demo Lenore and Flanagan Thales, who tag team that interception from Aaron Rogers. Brock Purdy outplayed him tonight, man, just straight up Brock Purdy outplaying Aaron Rogers. And yeah, I know they had to face two different defenses, but it's not like the Jets defense is a big old slouch. I mean, they have a really great D line like a top five in the NFL D line. You know, mostly is in the linebacker court is a dude. I mean, one of the best linebackers in all of football, he's no Fred Warner, you know what I mean? But he's pretty dang good in his own, right? And then he got sauce gardener out there was one of the best coverage corners in the NFL. Maybe the straight up best coverage corner. I mean, it was a it was a tough defense to go against for Brock Purdy and the 49ers, especially without Christian McCaffrey. And the 49ers defense did a really good job of setting this 49ers offense up multiple times with short field position. They got those two turnovers. They forced that turnover on downs as well. The fumble and the interception. This defense was flying around in what they did especially well to me was they really stopped this run game. They bottled up Breeze Hall, which is a really, really tough thing to do, especially this this guy is projected to be one of the best running backs in all the football this year. And you saw everybody on this 49ers defense flying around. I kind of thought this might be a problem because D Winters was was out for today. And that line back in course already kind of thin. I was a guy that we were kind of hoping would step in. And you know, you had some some other rookies on the roster, some holdovers from last year, such as Flanagan fouls. And I wasn't very excited to be honest about any of these options, not named Dre Greenlaw to go pair with Fred Warner. But I kind of liked that rookie six round pick that they got. But we didn't see him too much today. We saw a lot of Flanagan fouls and he played pretty well, man. That pick was great. The 49ers D line to you talking about new additions, Malik Collins getting into the backfield a lot today. I mean, point of attack, that guy was winning over and over and over again. You also saw Leonard Floyd winning a lot on the line as well to new additions to this 49ers defensive front that you're going to be hearing a lot of this year because it can't all be Nick Bosan with the departure of Eric Armstead. And you know, it seems like that D line always has like all of the all of the supplementary pieces. Just Exodus every year because, you know, Chris Kiseric and his defense plays pretty well. And you generally get a new contract when you're playing pretty well. That's for more money like you come to the 49ers and you go earn that contract somewhere else as a as a rotational guy here in this Chris Kiseric defensive line. But man, I really thought the 49ers did a great job in all phases of this game. And the secondary did a pretty dang good job to cover it up. These receivers, you saw Garrett Wilson getting it going early on. But it, you know, they shut him down later on Wilson, who started out this game with a ton of reception. I think you have like four or five receptions on that first scoring drive for the Jets finishes with six receptions for 60 yards. So really after that first drive, they made some adjustments and shut them down. The Jets started going to Allen Lazard after that who actually ended up being their leading receiver scored both of their tuttys and 89 yards for Lazard six receptions on nine targets. And for the 49ers, we should mention Joanne Jennings, the leading receiver today five receptions, 64 yards along of 22. And I'm just going through looking at these explosives for the 49ers for for these explosive pass plays. And and Brock was really spreading out. He he Giddle had four receptions for 40 yards. One of them went up for 26. Kyle use check had a couple of receptions. Both of them went from first downs. One of those was, you know, 34 yard, a big play that set the 49ers up in the red zone. Deemo Samuel had a 25 yard reception and Joanne Jennings had a 22 yard reception as well caught and Joanne caught all five of his targets. I really liked this dude. I kind of got scared when he got that ankle rolled up on, not going to lie, but he returned later on in this game. And that that was a very positive sign for me in this one. We should also mention Debo got in on the rushing action. A lot in this one that touchdown he scored came running the ball. He had eight carries for 23 yards, supplementing Jordan Mason's 28 carries 147 yards and a touchdown. And of course, the big boys, the offensive line paving the way for Jordan Mason to get into that end zone. And I want to talk about it, man, because I'm pretty excited about some of these, specifically one young kid on this offensive line. Dom Poonie and I'm hyped over this kid. And we're going to get into that on the other side, talking offensive lineman, not always the most sexy thing, but definitely need to get into it after today's game. I mean, you don't get 147 rushing yards with a 5.3 yard per carry average without some big boys up front doing the work. We got to give them some time to shine. Dom Poonie, the 49ers rookie, making his NFL debut in the regular season, getting a start in week one and man, oh man, he looked great. We're going to get into that on the other side of the lockdown. 49ers postcast. I'm your host, Eric Triple E. Engel will be right back. And today's show is also sponsored by BetterHelp. Welcome back to the locked on 49ers postcast. If this is your first time tuning in, welcome. We'll be doing it every single game this season, all season long. We were doing some pre-season games, we'll be doing obviously every regular season game. And predictably, plenty of post-season games for this 49ers squad to the way that they just rolled through this Jets team, which was, you know, a lot of people were pagan, this Jets team to be pretty good again this year, even though they got the oldest player in the NFL, playing quarterback out there, a guy who really loves himself some darkness retreat, some ayahuasca, and, you know, forcing his way out of towns that he's been in for, you know, a decade and a half plus. But, you know, maybe he'll be successful in New York. I mean, maybe he's just really trying to be Brett Favre, number two. It really just sounds like what this guy's been doing his whole career is, of course, we're talking about Aaron Rodgers, who lost today to the 49ers, 32 to 19. And it's just fun to take a victory lap on this guy, man. Like, what? I just do not like him or his face. And but the 49ers, man, a face I really do like. Dom Poonie, man, this guy, I think I might be in love with this, with this 49ers offensive line, man, like they look so good. And I was a little worried to see, we should mention Aaron Banks left. Late in this one, Spencer Berford came in in relief, but Banks, of course, had that pinky surgery in the off-season. We'll wait to see what is going on with that. Hopefully he'll be good to go next week because I really love seeing what this offensive line was doing, especially between the tackles tonight. 49ers with more than 100 rushing yards between the tackles. And one of those dudes up there was brand new Dom Poonie. We keep talking about him. We keep saying his name. He's the rookie fourth rounder out of Kansas. And man, this guy started at right guard today and just was awesome. I mean, he was ceiling blocks to give JP Mason a rushing lane in like over and over and over again. This guy is kicking down in ceiling off guys like Quentin Williams on that line. Like that is a big deal to have a rookie come in there and just do what Dom Poonie did tonight. Like no big deal. I hesitate to make this comparison, man, because I have not really seen a pole blocking guard that I like this much since like the calling Kaepernick, Jim Harbaugh era. But Dom Poonie, man reminds me of Mike Ew potty and if this guy can be Mike Ew potty, like, Oh my God, like this guy is going to be a perennial all pro player for the 49ers if he keeps doing what he's doing. And he's got a lot of guys to learn from. I mean, this is a pretty veteran offensive line that's got a lot of snaps under their belt. And Dom Poonie is going to be the one rookie in the mix. He's got I mean, he's set up with a perfect situation to really learn how to how to play this position. And I mean, doesn't seem like he needs to do a whole lot of learning based on what he did tonight, at least in the run game, who knows we need to see a more and pass protection. But Poonie, man, this dude is just NFL ready as soon as he comes out of Kansas Jayhawk football, which blows my mind because I don't know a damn thing about the Kansas football team, nor should really any reasonable person because, I mean, Kansas football, like really just doesn't move the needle that much nationally. But man, oh man, are that 49ers so good at finding like for as bad as they've been early in the draft and missing on a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of first rounders. They seem to really hit on those mid round guys like those fourth rounders, as long as they're not running back. So they seem to really find a lot of diamonds in the rough there. And speaking of 49ers picks, we got to just mention how cool is it to see Ricky Purcell back on the sideline so soon after that incident where he was shot through the chest in Union Square in San Francisco and to see him back out there on the sideline, man, like, what a dog, dude, just just certified dog would not surprise me if this guy plays in a couple weeks didn't need surgery or anything. I'm I'm really excited for Purcell to see how we adds another element to this offense. He's another massive playmaker that they will have. So overall, a really positive night for this 49ers team. They do need to cut down on the penalties. A lot of penalties tonight, you need to cut down on that. But a wins a win in the NFL, wins are hard to come by. As I said, eight strict scores tonight. The only two possessions, the 49ers data score in where they're opening drive, which went three and out and their final drive, which was one play and it was a quarterback knee by the backup quarterback. So phenomenal. And just just just an overall fun, fun way to start the NFL season. If you're a San Francisco 49ers fan, we got to wrap up this show. But I want to take a quick check in on the chat. I'm seeing some of my dudes from the lockdown giants postcast, Ryan and Daniel. And I'm also seeing some questions here. Someone asking if CMC is going to play next week, DJ asks, will CMC play next week? And let me tell you, I'm not entirely sure, man. Though, I think the way that Jordan Mason played tonight means you really don't have to play JP or a CMC against the Minnesota Vikings next week. And now the Vikings had a very dominant win of their own this week. But it was against the New York Giants. And if you watch how that game went, I don't, I don't really think it was the Vikings beaten up on the on the Giants as much as it was the Giants gifting the Vikings to win. So I do think that the 49ers could, you know, maybe just opt to go with Mason again for one more week and let CMC really rest that that calf or slash Achilles, you never want to see the word Achilles on an injury report, especially in week one of the NFL season for your number one star offensive player, that's not good. But the good news for the 49ers fans and the 49ers in general is Mason is one of the best contingency plans in the NFL. And it gives the 49ers, I think an option to even if they do play my count for you next week, I don't expect him to get the full workload. I'm expecting him to to kind of be eased into this offense. You don't want to bend up at the end of the year. If he's banged up in weeks one through four, one through five, deal with it. Well, you got you clearly got a couple guys back there. JP Mason leading the way. I mean, to get the job done, Jordan Panchas Mason, man, just marching the 49ers to victory today. One more time on the stat line, 147 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown, a long of 24, an average of 5.3 yards per carry. What a great win, man. What a great win. And we'll be back next week. We're wrapping up the 49ers and Vikings as they travel out to Minnesota and take on school. So we'll see how that goes. I'm expecting another 49ers win. And we should mention the 49ers covered big time today. If you got in on that four and a half, I mean, I was looking at that saying no chance in hell that this Jets team keeps it within five against this 49ers team. Like zero, zero chance. So 49ers win Aaron Rodgers loses. What more do you want on a Monday night of the NFL week one opener? Man, great game for Jordan Mason and the 49ers. That's all the time that we got for you guys today here on the lockdown, 49ers postcast. Thanks for tuning in. We'll see you next time. Peace.
