There will be no booing and no unruly behavior With that this is painful and it will be for a long time After all these are a couple of high-stepping turkeys and you know what to say about a high stepper No step too high for a high stepper. This is midday mobile with Sean Sullivan on FM Talk 106 five was shot a tough guy I mean, I think everybody knows that you know Sean. He took some licks. He hangs in there Yeah, what's wrong with the beer we got? I mean the deal we got drink pretty good, don't it? Did you hear what I said? So this is a great council. I had no doubt about them That doesn't suck. If you don't like it you're bad last question. Were you high on drugs? Right go away. We go FM Talk 106 five midday mobile on this Friday Eve edition of the show Phone number you got it good. Those of you that don't have it Maybe put this in the contacts with 56 hours a week of live local shows all kind of different subjects different host All local folks here. You might want to chime in on the text line or the phone line at 43 0106 3 4 3 0 1 0 6 so use those you'll need it coming up on today's show We'll lay out what's happening in today's show in just a second. I do want to get this Thank you Terry on the text line said I 65 northbound multiple crashes mile 103 to 107 traffic is stopped heavy rain bands with zero visibility along 65 at Georgiana and Greenville so that area to multiple Crashes there look at the radar. You can see the bands of rain going up right through there That's pretty much right along 65 you get a little bit east a little bit west and you're out of it But that training effect from the rain still the remnants of Francine. So I thank you for that heads up and hope every is Not injured in those accidents up there Terry you be careful up there as well. All right, speaking of the speaking of the right We can talk we can talk hurricanes for a second. I did want to talk about you meant you heard town hall news mentioned that story I have forget what percentage of Americans now not born in the United States. They had the Breathless reporting. I do you know, I'm kind of a if y'all Listen to me over time. I'm a kind of a history. Okay. I'm a fan. I'm a Interested in history and with the surname Sullivan. I can't Push pack to pass the fact that they said like since a hundred years the most number of Americans that have been Not native born in the country Listen when the Irish showed up, but there's been I Don't know six seven million Irish people have emigrated to the United States over the years I mean with those number of people showed up We had to have times before in this country where and obviously the population of the country was lower that You know, we had more non-native born folks become an American. So Break if people want to come here and do it legally. That's what our country's about. That's uh, so I'm not getting breathless There but on the on the hurricane stuff for a couple things couple just a little bit of ranting and then some snake ID on the way In this next segment. All right The little bit of ranting is and I'll say this even with the fact that one of these people in town I think he does the best job of it is one of my good friends So one of my good friends is a TV meteorologist here in the city Those you know me know who I'm talking about So he's one of them. I think he does a better job of keeping things in check mind TV meteorologists understand this. I know you're doing your job. I know you're getting pressure from the news director. I know you know, you got Yeah, you've got to keep it. I mean weather is 25 35% of a newscast right was good weather and then let's go back to weather and all that and I get it is good People need to know local weather. It's an important thing But when you do that and you have a captured audience that may be older an older captured audience You cause issues for their children Okay, you cause issues for their children when you keep on and keep on and keep on then you have Older folks in our community get get bored more worried about something they don't need to worry about right? I mean, we're gonna have winds and the rain. It's you know, it went in at Morgan City Francine did but the more time that goes from four o'clock in the afternoon and people my age may have parents Older or do you agree with me that as of everything's cool about 330. Yeah, yeah, yeah, everything's fine Yes, I talked to Dr. Bill. Yes, everything's good news comes on at four I'm sure leading with whether lots of busy working here, but let's oh Now let's go direct to the weather extreme center by the end of the four o'clock hour into the five o'clock hour You've got the elder citizens immobile in a tizzy and they are blowing up the phones of their children Or maybe not even some loved ones To get them to to ask them more and more weather questions So I know you all got a job to do and I respect you got a job to do But understand Just the the constant weather hype leads to extra drama for The younger generation. Okay, leave it there. All right speaking of Hurricane Francine and coverage of Hurricane Francine This was something that I thought was of interest here too. So we went from the weather side Take I guess keeping it in science in nature and to the snake ID side And here's here's the audio from weather channel. This is yesterday yesterday. Yes, she evening You got Jim at the much exalted and I think actually the research I've done on this guy a pretty good person Jim Cantore weather channels Lead quarterback Jim Cantore is in Morgan City for landfall of hurricane Francine as you're trying to fill in You know the you're talking about here's let's go to the radar Here's what the winds are doing you add a little more you put a little more meat on the bone when you're doing reporting Obviously, you've seen this over time like let's go in. Here's a diner that didn't close What do you all do it in here? You've seen all this stuff during hurricane coverage, but in this Jim Cantore tell us a story about I guess they ran the battery down on the on the Weather vehicle do they have like a weather rover or something the vehicle they're in batteries run down They get a I don't know if it was a Parrish deputy there in terrible in parish or police officer. I'm not sure I think he says it here comes up to give them assist. We're gonna give him a jump good old-fashioned jumper cables Why Jim Cantore in the weather channel crew with all their low-code? Stuff and special glasses and all that why they don't have like a Jump box. I don't know, but they don't they run the battery down. Here comes law enforcement and they got to open their hood Okay, and so we'll take it from here. So here's Jim Cantore describing here He is live from Morgan City, Louisiana describing this. Let's go ahead and cut one But as we went to start my cameraman Brad Reynolds So our officer out here helping us out this evening his name is Jason He is a hand jumper cables and he already give us a jump So if we're pulling the vehicles up to get them together obviously the jumper cable dented battery when we open Jesus We've found something a little shocking and of course Brad's feet. But the snake there's a snake It's absolutely unbelievable and there it is right there Okay, so at this point by the way to at this point they have shown a steel shot of the snake in the engine Snakes laying on top of the engine block. Okay, so they've shown that they've gone to the steel shot that and now back to Cantore It's wet the ground is wet Keep that in mind if you've got open your hood over this couple of days and you're sitting here in some of this very rare weather But of course what really made this story? I did We got the car started by the way. That's not it. It's the fact that Jason told us. This was a copper head Rattlesnake mixture. Okay copper head rattlesnake mixture. Okay, so you've got two Two venomous snakes right to venomous snakes and they did some he and in a she-in and so he says this so the officer here There's a deputy or an officer Told the weather channel bunch of what you got here. You know is the cross-breeding of a copper head and a rattlesnake And sit when you would you then mistakes breathe the stick. He's actually not dead in the city We're telling you about but I just thought it was a really interesting story to tell you That we've dealt with out of three. It is a fascinating story Jim about the copperback rattle moccasin that you that you found which by the way I mean, I saw it on Facebook people before I could even zoom in on the picture It's a it's a water snake. They are constrictors. They are not venomous and they probably get killed more than any of their non venomous snake For being some kind of copperback rattle moccasin, but so Jim Cantore in filling time last night Let us know that if according to the Officer there that if you have a which got there and I know that's what it must have sounded like which got there is a cross breed of Copperhead and a rattlesnake and when they do that then they're not poisonous They're not poisonous because it's a water snake and it's a different species But that didn't Stop Cantore so that one of those moments you get these moments out of hurricane coverage Uh You'll get these delightful moments out of hurricane coverage What they're trying to fill in and in this case snake id would turn out to be a water snake was a A rattlesnake copperhead cross some Delightful all right coming right back more mid-day mobile will digest that one and Pick it up on the other side This is mid-day mobile with Sean Sullivan on fm talk 1 0 6 5 Right to 12 19 fm talk 1 of 6 5 in mid-day mobile and thank you bill that bill and send a link here on the update Now that we have reported on it earlier on the station, but that yeah, we can continue to update this fully high school Everything is secured there the fully high school teacher initiated the lockdown protocol there Police have secured the campus during the perimeter remains in place all the students are safe at fully high school Uh, we'll talk about that. I think later. I may mention that to my next guest about a gun But I heard was a gun was Pretty a fight broke out and somebody pulled out a gun Uh We'll talk about that with my next guest in a It just a few minutes. Uh, let's see The uh some other road. Okay. So thank you. Uh cheese wagon saying the roadway flood cleared on i-10 eastbound mile marker 27.58 The ramp tax at 27 the causeway exit is back open and then a pump peddler Uh, thank you said dogs road is closed between glider avenue and old government. They're replacing a broken power pole I lost some I lost some netting off my garden last night. I'm about it Uh, Ben said it's better than finding a diamondback moccasin It's a battle back diamondback boccasin Uh, this texture says does that snake only eat jackalopes possibly and uh And jimby said about that kunas cop is still laughing. I bet you he is Uh Hey, would okay. Hey, would you understand me said weather extreme also affects older parents inland? I'm 55 and my mother still calls me if the weather is bad sent her to alan seals explaining hurricanes on youtube But the problem is Hey, would have to get the youtube link And then she'll say she can't find it in her email. I'm i'm not saying anybody in particular called me So many times yesterday. Um, all right does uh, we'll get some phone calls here a lot of texts To get back into it's just I listen One of those people is is a very good friend of mine And they're doing their job and they I really do appreciate what they do same way. I appreciate dr Bill. I appreciate our local meteorologist or on tv. It's an important job But just the nature of having a captured audio when they come on at four And they're going to do the storm cut by 530 or so. They've got some citizens in our community so growled up That no matter how many times you tell them it's fine. We're good. It's not going to be an issue They call you back just to check because they saw the latest update from the tv news All right to the telephones now and j in mobile up next hey j Did we lose jay? All right, we lost j. I don't know put him back on hold y'all see what Maybe maybe somebody cut the phone lines. Maybe like when they're replacing that power pole Uh, let's see here terry said, uh, I learned in her pathology class that they can't interbreed correct Right. Yeah, this is the I just I think it's I think it's uh Just to be music it. I think jim bees on on the right track. Maybe the uh Officers said let me have fun with jim cantore and the weather channel crew and tell them that uh, which got there See what you boys got there Is a rattlesnake and a copperhead reproduced and uh, that's non-poisonous. Uh, they're offspring because it's a it's a watersnake Yeah, you're right. Uh, you're right. Uh, let's see here. Uh, this texture said hey sean I hope the sirlan bear and gator don't guard don't start he and in the she and oh my gosh if we had a Gator bear Let's go the phones are right jim in mobile. Uh jim yawn Yes, i'm here. All right. Good deal. So what's going on jim? son, I want to um Talk to about two things real quick. I want to thank chris conti but not shut the courts down today A lot of these sport houses overreacted. He didn't Uh, he's a real man and he did what it took to get the job done That was on chris conti, but I really wanted to talk about the immigration You know, I have a dream to play football for the canada city chiefs I would love to play well I do and I would love to play football with the canada city chief so I could hang out with Travis kelsey mohone and taylor swift But unfortunately, i'm 55 years old and probably was never good enough to play football for the canada city chiefs And the moral of this story is this Before we let people come into this country and join our team Which is a lot more important what kind of citizen you'll make than what kind of football player you'll make We need to have people that are going to make this country better. You don't have a god giving right to be an american And we need to start, you know valuing who we let in because if I started playing offensive line Mr mohone is probably going to start getting sacked And if we let people in this country that we should let in bad things are going to happen So we need to remember that if someone can't make this country better, they shouldn't be coming in Now we let all types of people in this country that we shouldn't and we let people in the country that we should But it's time that we started having standards and don't just let anybody do in your team fair enough. So let's let's let's ball ball that down. So who defined what makes the country better? What is that person because I am actually you know, I have a running theory the The people that would risk everything and I'm still like I said, I'm pro immigration I'm just anti illegal immigration the people that risk everything To come and bring a family and try to come to this country Have shown me at least I've got some hustle, right? But would they put yeah, I think so in my opinion, I they they show some hustle, but what what do you put on that? What do you put like? How do you grade that whether somebody's going to be a benefit? Do they have to be a PhD? Do they have to be a Programmer do they have to who do they have to be? Some of it's going to have to be subjective. That's just the only way you can do it. I can say I'm a bit Who gets to be so who gets to be subjective? We're going to have to have a have a group of these are Not as are we just had need to have regular people. We don't even ever use that term again If you want to talk about racism and the slavery, you know cedar They had slavery under the romance, but we need to put that behind and look to the future Okay, we need to have an organization that pigs who that who qualifies and what can make them better If you want to call the coaching staff call the coaching staff But we need to have people that choose who gets to come in who does it. I worry about who those people are I really do okay. I mean, I like now it's going to like you said it's subjective It will never be perfect, you know, my dad is a much better football coach than Mike Dubos That Mike Dubos was head football coach at the University of Alabama And you're going to pick some bad people and you're going to pick some nicksabers But we have to have standards and we will make mistakes and we have to understand we're going to make mistakes And we just have to go through it and try to want to say one more thing The Irish have been in this country basically since the beginning and so have black folks and all other types of people And they all have rights and they've contributed to this country. One problem we have when we talk about the Mayflower is Northern I guess is them where they discriminate against people from the south james tan was founded long before before they Before they did flimeth and you hit africans in this country. They were working as citizens before You found it Plymouth as well. So we need to keep these things in mind. Okay, but what's good. I mean, but like laying the plane for me. So this means what That means we quit illegal immigration 100 percent. We do legal immigration And we have to have standards about who we're going to let in and who we're not and it's that simple and let me say this In your Travis Kelsey, you probably make the team if you're Rudy from Notre Dame. I'm sorry son, but we just don't need man jay That's tough. That's hard jay. It would not we would not even had the movie Rudy if it was up to jay Um do I have time guess I can grab a couple more. Uh, let's Try to go to uh, yeah, one at least one more Gary's in Gulf Shores. Hey, Gary Hello. Hey, man. I told it. I totally agree with that call or comment theory And uh, we just added that we actually do have standards and criteria when they go through the immigration Review process and when they go through the naturalization process And there are a lot of outstanding talented people who are waiting in line to get in the right way And and and yet we're We're overburdening our immigration system with the uh, illegals that are flooding in and uh Uh, you know, I don't see I anybody can defend what's occurred over the last three years and eight months No, I don't think no that and that's and that we're just and I I just mentioned their time about foreign born. Like I said, I mean, I The hawkiest of the hawk of of having a secure border No, I'm just talking about legal people month everything together illegal immigration is a very big problem But we're here as a country because of legal immigration That's right. That's right and they didn't I get frustrated with trump because every time they get in uh to a little argument on this thing or debate Uh, uh, has or anyone else on the dim side says well trump killed the the immigration bill Well, what he never responds with is hb 102 What would have secured the border? But humor would would not allow a boat on it And and I don't know why that's never brought up when they get into that exchange Because these are talking points. You know how they do it. They roll out the talking points and and you know, you never get the next page It's all you know so much of it's out of context And they talked about the bipartisan bill but the bipartisan but senate bill, you know, it allowed up to About a thousand people a day to come in illegally before you could trigger the shutdown And I and of course we've all seen we're just a one EOD in the last month to start curbing it So I I just don't I get frustrated with trump because he just doesn't Articulate very well when I get into that circuit true true true. You're appreciative call coming right back more bid day mobile I mean, I just want to talk about Jim cantori and then we get a immigration discussion best the fun thing about the show we do all kind of stuff and Coming up in the next segment men united against violence Think I see john and drew out there. I think let's see they're going to be in here next 343 0106 This is midday mobile with Sean Sullivan on fm talk Right 1235 FM talk 1 065 midday mobile by the way tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow this show live from the grounds It is the gnd farms outdoor expo tomorrow saturday and sunday And uh, we'll be out there midday mobile from noon to tomorrow plus Mike warden i doing a live on location FM talk 1 065 outdoors from 11 to noon you the show usually runs from 7 to 8 7 to 8 will be a replay of last week's show and then we'll do that fresh show from 11 to noon on saturday But doors open at 10 tomorrow 10 saturday 10 sunday open till nine tomorrow and saturday closing I think at four on sunday gd farms outdoor expo online gives you more information or i'll give you more information coming up later on in the show All right as I mentioned because I saw them I had to actually buzz them through which is odd that I buzz these men through security Buzz these men through security as they entered the FM talk 1 065 studio men united against violence It is true forward. It is john young and the crowd goes wild. Hello gentlemen. Hey, how's it going? It's um, it's I will say this but lament for john. I will always be the runner up in the mr. Mobile contest Goodness because because john I will never have a chance in this mobile because you you will win it every time good to see you all in Thank you for having us. It's good to talk about good news as well. You know we talk about what The challenges in our community they continue Uh, but there are also our our things that are positive out there And that's why I called you. Um, I know I've been on I'm you and I for a while. I had to bring june back. He's been training for a tough man fight He's been fighting in southern slugfest. He's so I had to bring him back. We might be fighting again in october But here we are now I was about to ask when the next yeah might be fighting in october Having a good time with it. Yeah, this is his midlife crisis So the midlife crisis is to get in fighting shape Right, you sure is already in good shape and now you're in fighting shape We're getting him in fighting Most of us just get fat and get a fancy car you and I yeah I'm glad he's back. He's you know, he's been there with us from the beginning and we when we called you We we don't want to just show up shawn after someone is shot when the black hedge has been shot We want to celebrate the decrease in violent crime and mobile over the past year And talk about how we got to double digit decreases and rape robbery aggravated assault burglary Theft vehicle theft even shooting into occupied dwellings is down 40 compared to last year It's it's it's but how do you do? Okay, so we talk about legislation about shooting into an ordinance system, right? But how did that I don't think the ordinance goes it now could keep people behind bars that are that are threats and society, but how The law didn't do all that how do you have a 40% reduction in shooting into what happens law enforcement gas? What what happens here? People are behaving, right? People stop committing crimes. That's what it boils down. Yeah, but true have did they just wake up one day and say, you know All that crap I was doing before I'm not going to do it anymore. I think it's too part I think it's the relentless prosecution person pursuit of criminals And the public has said, you know what I'm tired of this. I'm going to cooperate with police I'm going to say who did what when wearing how and why And it gives police something to work with to pursue the 5% who are committing all the chaos So that thing that we've all wanted to happen is happening. It is where people just said Enough enough enough and it has happened and we should celebrate it as Mobilians pat ourselves on the back and say we can still do better, right Drew? All right, let's keep climbing to the summit, right? Oh, yeah, it's not okay. I mean, it's not okay. It's way better, but it's still yeah, not okay, right Right, but we have made some improvements and just continuing of course Even with the different chief of police the mission of the mobile police department is the same The mission of men united against violence is the same We want people to stop killing each other because these decrease and violent crimes disproportionately affect young black men Right, so it is 15 to 25 year old black man. This is this is the rising tide raises all ships And so when we talk about a decrease in assaults and we talk about a decrease and shoot it into that means Not only are is there a decreased citywide, but there's a decrease in black victims and black suspects So it is working and we just have to continue this what we like to say because of our message and our mission. We did it No, this is a collaboration. Right. This is I think the messaging and we talked about this before is not at that 15 to 25 year old black guy It is at the community. It's a younger younger man Kids right in the community. I think we're having like a keystone moment here That you have community going I'm okay. Well, unfortunately, here's what's happening. Right. It's showing you're right whenever you can't I mean y'all Y'all can't be everywhere everywhere at once and when we're out and during our out We've only gotten positive feedback keep telling the message. Good. So the messaging has worked right drew. Yes, it's absolutely works you know There's no way that we can get this done without the community, you know, the police department and the community have to work together And we have to continue doing what it is that we're doing right now Um, we've got a good decline and pretty much Every category of violent crime except homicide is slightly up. However, um, the numbers and assaults Usually when they come down homicide typically comes down with it That was the next question i was going to ask you because does when a assault happens Is there some kind of you turn the hourglass over and go there's going to be another heavy assault or a homicide because of that assault Right. Well, I mean assaults include people that almost died or should have died for your injuries Right, but like you pointed out and homicide murders probably the toughest because You can't predict a domestic violence incident, right? You know, you you can't so I but you can I mean, let's not dance around the subject here, but y'all know as veterans of this that this shooting took place Okay, and they were nobody knows anything, but you know at that point here comes you put on the egg timer There's going to be another shooting come because of that Am I right much of what you get with violent crime is going to be retaliatory? Right. Um, you you do still have People who would retaliate if there's a shooting into at one house chances are there's going to be a shooting into at two or three more houses Right because all of those people involved they know who's involved Right, and so they go after them. Um, but and then and then those folks then Right retaliate retaliate. Right. So the fact that people are coming out now and saying now it's it's these guys right here to get it Exactly. That's seems like the Targeting the five percent of shooters targeted to five percent of the most violent people in the city community Involvement and a strong message of this is the issue. We need to solve it. Those three things are culminating in decreased violence in the city It's decreased robberies decreased burglaries decreased Vehicle burglaries decreased assaults. This is something we should talk about because we now see that we can do it Right, this thing that people said was impossible. We can say it was impossible It is very possible not just possible, but probable We've done it and we can continue doing it and even theft. Even theft is way theft is way down to double digits what? retail theft It's just incredible Sean. It really is The retail theft how the heck do you get through to those knuckleheads? Well, again, a lot of these are organized and you'll have the same crew of 10 people commit multiple thefts across Not just mobile, but sarah land boss in county and when you catch them And prosecute them and put them in jail You you decrease by 10 percent that and if you do that three or four more times That's right and the laws have recently changed As far as organized retail theft this concern, right? Um, there's been a focus on breaking down those systems that they've put together to You know go in steal these items and then go sell them somewhere else on Facebook marketplace. So it's just not just like the the shoplifters of just Opportunity these are people that like this is their career They make a living off of stealing and reselling right and so once we target them the guy stealing the single Case with beer versus yeah, that's five guys that steal 10 cases of beer to resell Got you Is that you target the guys that are stealing the 10 cases of beer you target the ladies who go to alter and steal 10 makeup packages that three ladies that go in and stand until Still 10 packages each once you target those things the numbers have to go down And that's why we know it is a collaboration between the public and the police department and the messaging i was strong messaging I like to say that our messaging of We can make a difference. We can decrease crime. We need families. We need education employment and discipline People are listening and adhering to it Sean. This deserves to be we don't want to be just doomsday Let's celebrate the positive right when I come in and you put in your quarter and you you hear both barrels of jyi going off No, we're going to say and encourage mobilions Keep doing the right thing. Let's keep doing it mobile. Let's keep doing keep pressing forward That's it. It is uh, that is very good news and hopefully Uh, that trend just you know builds because you hear that this is happening You know, some people are late to get on on board right like and it's And they got to see how many how many games of the team won? Oh, yeah, i'm a fan now But you know, I mean that's a reality You're laughing true because you know, it's true right and all of a sudden you get these fans of like I love that team forever No, you didn't you just they're having a winning season Colorado. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Now. Now you're now the world's biggest fan So but I mean in this in our home here y'all People if this is working and people have stepped up to be the you know, the early adopters the first ones are saying No, this is who did it. Yo come that gives I would imagine for me. It would more confidence for somebody else go Yeah, I'm would do this. This is I'm into building trust between the community and the police department The trust that our identities won't be given that our information It's all of these things and everyone knows our profession and our career So, but we're saying that it isn't just one part. It has to take everyone else being involved and that's what we see now With the the fear of school shootings. Um, that's been the national. This indicates that we can Deter decrease and prevent them When everyone's involved the football season, you know, they've been shooters at football games over the past two years I'll bet we can go this entire season drew without a shooting at a football cap. Absolutely. I think we can do it Yeah, and that should be what we expect it is in our community Let's raise our bar higher again Go to dang football game. You take the little kids you take you take everybody and The worst you're gonna hear somebody say something mean to the ref And we can set that standard again and we can't back up Sean more than anything. Let's not back up mobile No, absolutely a couple questions here before we get the news. We'll come back Ashley It says does shooting into an occupied vehicle or building have an automatic jail sentence. Do y'all know if that Because these men these men are the ones that enforce laws, right? That would be a court question I don't think there's mandatory There was some legislation to make shooting into a class a felony, right? That was a move. Yeah, which is should put you I mean, I'm not right. There's three of those that are not attorneys or judges sitting here doing it But I mean if class a felony you go to jail, right you you're held without bond But there was I think Right and because it was called racist. Oh, that's right Race is that's because it disproportionately affect The people who are doing the shootings and that just happened to be black kids. Well, dog gonna stop shooting And let's see let me ask a question And the people they were shooting what was their skin color 99.9% they were black so it's So the black person that's being killed or injured But they're property damage Terrorized it's okay for that to happen to a black person I came to play nice on you're about to put your quarter in and get it because The hypocrisy of the same people say they protect and love black people are the very same people Somebody out who's gonna shoot and rob a black person the rights of the offender are greater than the rights of the victim That's what she doesn't make sense at all And I'm not going to say which political party because this is a political year, you know But there's one party that says that and everything they do is self First look at the stats I mean if they want to get into and then I'm gonna come right back to the positive But you look at the stats and say okay with the great who is being injured in the stats It is black folks that are being injured. Yep. Yeah, and so when we see a decrease in More to me, they're way more important than the person who's doing the injury the victim right? What about the victims right easily? They'll riot and tear down a city over junkies or criminals and Ignore the lives of the little children that are terrorized by urban terrorism Put them in jail bill bigger jails, whatever it takes in my opinion I have no bond for anybody not get out until your court date And that's fine with me because uh, this is a free country and we deserve to live peaceably I'm gonna write back a menu night against five and drew forward jy And we'll continue the conversation with you at 343 0106 This is mid-day mobile with shawn selvan on fm talk Right at 1252 fm talk 10565 and mid-day mobile john young drew forward bending that against violence also, uh, police officers conversation about Pretty positive stats out there with crime reduction in the city of mobile. I want to read a couple of these texts here gentlemen uh, scroll vereen said, uh, the message also needs to be received by white parents who think it's a limited to and only affecting others Standard white kid is into the same influences of gangster rap crass behavior, etc And they all interact with each other. So I mean, yes, I mean, I think we came together though because The shocking thing is the number of black children that were being shot By other I'm gonna call them children too. Whether they're 18 or not They're acting that they were out shooting out with each other and then here's a eight-year-old, a nine-year-old, a 14-year-old Child that's doing nothing wrong that that lays dead. So I mean, that's the thing that but yes, the whole community We should celebrate drew. I don't think we've ever messaged. It's to say that white kids don't do it We just say that's disproportionately black versus black, right? Correct. Yeah, yeah, yeah, right. And that's I mean, but that's the thing that brought us together We just talk facts, right, right? Yes, there are white kids doing it, but the number of stories that Every month we're talking about it's it's it's an innocent black child shot It's a grandmother, you know, wouldn't chair birch and I were talking about that case where woman's in church black woman's in church on her knees praying Yes, and gets a bullet At that point I'm What there's a nine-year-old child who when he was shot it was a second time he had been shot, right? Or the little girl that was shot on her sleeping on the sofa this earlier this year in her home doing her kid stuff, right being Which is exactly why I would say that we all agree on this Um shooting into is probably two need to be class a felony Because you just don't know who you're going to kill. No, you don't have an obviously you don't care and you don't care, right? And it's often right as the wrong house the the person that you hate isn't there You can't control a bullet go through the door. They're shooting Hands in the unknown rifles now Sean and these automatic pistols Two to three rounds can go through three or four houses and car doors and windows Yeah, we could give we could give every citizen a bazooka and a tank if we change their heart They wouldn't shoot it through a hat. Correct. You know, yeah, right? We give them every weapon in the world It's not it's not the it's not the weapon because they'll find some way it's the it's the person and the lack of Empathy sympathy morals Right. Mm-hmm. They lack compunction of sheriff once says some of these are just low-down dirty dogs that need to be put down And some people will never conform to a civilized society, but we in a civilized society must decide That we don't want them in our society and work together to get rid of them It sounds like that's what's happening and that is exactly what's happening double the forcible rapist down 18 percent Burglary burglaries are down 30 percent robberies are down 34 percent. That's not by accident mobile That is not by accident. We are working together. We are doing it together and and we just have to keep let me take y'all to task with with law enforcement You're doing it now. You're doing the right thing, but there's not enough that messaging Right because people when crime is bad people like what the heck are the cops doing? Right when things are good. Nobody thinks about the fact that you're doing something Right because I mean you're like oh well things are good. Yeah, people don't don't call in because their product they bought is working They call in go that's dang thing. I bought and it's not working Well, that's the same thing because y'all and you're doing the right thing here is coming out and saying things are good And here's what we're doing to make that happen. I can say this We don't we don't have the end all be all when it comes to ideas, right anyone that has any idea or any or any type of um program they want to initiate any any type of um Rally that they want to do you know what do it Do it because we all have to come together on this that we don't have the only ideas Right, right. So we we all need to come together and work toward a common goal But how how that looks that doesn't matter right as long as we're pushing in the same direction Right. Yeah, family education employment and discipline can look however it needs to for different people Yeah, but that and you know that with many not against violence and that message Is one like I said, this is about you're speaking We're speaking to everybody but speaking to the people in the community. They can make a difference when they say okay enough enough Here's people that did it There's where they there's where they're hiding the bad guys should be afraid of us They should be afraid that hey when you drive down mr. Sullivan street He's outside waving right and when you pass mr. Forward's yard, he's outside And mr. Young's gonna say hey, how are you boys doing now? We've had three sets of eyes on you. They should be more afraid of the good guys than we are afraid of them And that's what you I believe you're seeing now the good guys are realizing wait a minute. I love the port city I love going to marty grow. I love going to the mall I can't go there in fear. And so I will cooperate. We will make it uncomfortable for bad guys But it takes like you said obviously people are doing it now And I think people jump on the bandwagon it takes people to do the thing that may be out of the ordinary to them It might be scary Right, but to know that they have the backing of so many others and police department to step up and do the because I mean There's always the in any movement There's people on the front that are so very brave that are the spearhead for the people that come behind them Right and now it's time to fill in If you think about our founding fathers, not everyone wanted an American revolution There were several that were happy being under the dictatorship of and so anytime that you step out and challenge things There will always be some saying I don't think that's going to work, but we can't be afraid or intimidated to try it So I am pleased to come on with a positive message about something taking let's celebrate it And and also realize true that the work isn't over. We still got three more months in this year That's right. And so let's finish the year on the strong note. Let's keep these numbers trending down for we wrap up here too People got their ideas or one of two things with maybe not against violence. How how do they find Facebook men united against violence.
