Tyree Kill, thrown to the ground, handcuffed, detained for allegations of speeding, reckless driving, whatever. Yeah, look, it's a bad look for the police. They immediately launched an internal and fairs investigation. One of the officers has been put on what they're calling administrative duties. And if there was any doubt, because Tyree Kill doesn't have the most pristine reputation, we know that. But when Kalea Campbell, a former water-paint NFL man of the year, walks up in an attempt to deescalate it, and he gets cuffed and sighted for failing to obey an officer's order. God forbid, you know, we don't obey to the letter, an order from an officer. God forbid, we exercise our freedoms. You're allowed to talk to an officer and not get arrested. That's the law. I think puts it in a different context. Right. When a guy like Kalea Campbell, Walter Payton, men of the year. Right. When he gets cuffed and he gets sighted, something weird is going on here. And they're already investigating. They've reached out. Drew Rosenhouse told me this last night in advance of football night in America. They've reached out to Tyree Kill to get his cooperation as part of this internal and fairs investigation. They're considering all options, including litigation, and we'll see how it plays out. And let's just get to the truth. And I hope it's not going to be... I hope it's not going to be all the body cameras weren't... We don't know why they weren't activated, but they weren't activated. Let's have all the evidence and let's see exactly what happened and let people make their decisions. We'll see where it goes. And I'll stand corrected, but as it stands right now, it seems like it was a case of DWB driving while black. Okay. That's what that seems like. And the way that Drew Rosenhouse has talked to you and the way Tyree Kill answered questions, it obviously seems like that. And I believe I'm with you in your Kalea's Campbell thing. So I don't know what went on there. And if I'm wrong about my DWB coming, I'll take that back when I'm on here next time. I don't... You know, I don't know all the facts, but it certainly seems like that right now. I mean, craziness there. To be thrown on the ground. Why? Because he probably said, why are you pulling me over or whatever? Who knows? But throwing on the ground and handcuffed for that? That's craziness. That's craziness. So yeah, not a good start to Tyree Kill's first Sunday of the NFL season, but it ended better. Well, it ended a lot better. Yeah. And despite having that kind of trauma, distraction, issue, just everything that you go through when you have an interaction like that that throws you off your game, it didn't throw him off his game. Seven catches 130 yards and a touchdown. An instrumental part in the turnaround that had the Dolphins down 17-7 and on the ropes. Deep crap. But for Jevon Holland. Play of the day. Punching the ball out. Yeah. Punching the ball out from Travis ATN, or it would have been 24-7. Right? Would have been 24-7. He's walking in the night. It would have been night-night. Yeah. Jacksonville's defense. You know, they played well. That's the, you know, the bad thing about this whole thing is Jacksonville's defense did so many good things in the game. Made big fourth down stops in the first half. Really was kind of keeping that offense under wraps. And then you're going, wow. Jacksonville's just going to dominate the game. Trevor Lawrence was looking good. First round pick Brian Thomas Jr. was beating Jalen Ramsey down the field and caught a touchdown pass in the back on Jalen Ramsey. And you're going, wow. They got to go in here. They're every bit, you know, in the class of the Miami Dolphins and they can handle the speed and all that. ATN thumbles and you look like you go, man, he's about to walk in. This is over. Unbelievable play by Holland. I don't know if we got the highlight and we could show it. But yeah, it's the game changing moment of the football game right there to go from that. And then it was what? The very next play? I think it was the very, I think it was the first play of the drive. But either way, it was the next drive, either way. It was ADR touchdown. Little play action pass. He looks to Waddle on the left and Waddle's not open. But here, we'll go through all the highlights. Here it is. Perfect. ETN. Boom. I mean, he's going to go down maybe at the one foot line. Nonetheless, it's going to be first in goal with the one or a touchdown. And it did. It felt like it was going to be night night from Miami. Here we are. First in 10. Look at this. Look at this play. First off. Waddle on a short little slant. And then they run Tyree kill on a deep cross over the top of it. Great throw by Toa and then it's go-go. Rockets up my ass time with Tyree kill and a great celebration on top of that. Oh, lock him up. Well, yeah, he put his hands behind his back and the teammate came over to- Yeah, Waddle simulate the key. Take a look at the key. Take a look. There it is. There it is. The still frame. And Tyree Gafford was on with Melanie Collins from CBS. Yeah. Very loose. Dropped a little F bomb. Not that we can relate to that. We can relate to that. But it was for the Dolphins. The kind of win that they will need in November. Let's not have 70 to 20. Let's not have come out and melt the other team under the South Florida sun. Make them wear their dark jerseys and they just can't wait to get the hell out of here. And we're going to score 34 points. They were down 10. It felt like they were going to lose. You would pick them to lose. And I'm thinking, hmm, Sims is right. The Jaguar is going to go and beat the Dolphins. Oh boy. Jeez. Who would have, you know, they got some high expectations this year. They're supposed to win the games in September and then start losing them in November and December. It may not matter by November and December. They found a way to dig deep and come back and win. That is the kind of mindset that this team has been missing. That's the thing they can build on. So they escaped. It worked. And the added benefit is you get a little, a little mentally tougher. And it maybe carries you the next time in a situation like that. It does. It's a real thing. And we know that they, you know, we've talked about them being a flag football team at times. Or a front runner. When things are going great and it's an open field and it's fast break and boom, boom, boom. Yeah, they're awesome. But as soon as the game gets a little ugly and tougher, the weather gets a little, you know, iffy. Or the game becomes a phone booth game and it's just physical and all that. We've seen Miami kind of melt away in those scenarios. They got something to build on yesterday with that from that aspect. And that is a real thing in your mind. Again, I didn't play a ton in my NFL career. But in my one year when I was a starting quarterback and we went to the playoffs, we won some of these type of games. And I can't tell you after you win one or two, you start, then you, oh, a few weeks later, you get in the game again and you go, we're, we're made for this. I, I like our chances and you don't blink and you know, you flip side of the Deshawn Watts and stuff we were talking about. Exactly. You develop that confidence. You have a look at your eye. You feel it. And the opponent feels it. They, they definitely do. And if you can get to that point, that's when you become a dangerous thing. It's like, you know, like my homes, like we've talked about it. He's got that and the Kansas City Chiefs have that, but it is a very real aspect and good. What do you want to say? Culture, tough win. Mike McDaniel's has been beating this point home down to the Miami Dolphins. The last, this whole off season, because, because he's very aware of that. And I give Mike McDaniel a lot of credit for recognizing it because a lot of coaches don't want to admit, oh, we weren't tough enough or we couldn't win the, the tough football games, right? NFL head coaches are so macho, you're, if you said that to them, they'd be like, oh, how dare you say that? We were tough. We just didn't play well. We're tough. You're saying we got pushed around? No, we didn't get pushed around because I've said things like that to coaches before and they get very upset when you say that. Mike McDaniel, that is what I do love of them. He's cerebral. He's real. And he goes, wait, this is the issue. And I'm going to throw it in, in our, in my team space. And I know idiots like Florio and Sims are saying it and I'm going to confront it and take it head on instead of acting like it's not there. And I give him credit for doing that and taking it, you know, head on. That's what a leader should do in respect there. By the way, you get a new contract, not that long ago, did you notice the upgraded ride? I mean, Bentley, he had the RS7, right, which is identical to my car. Oh. He's in a different tax right now. Well, yeah, he left you behind. He left me behind. He left you behind. He's got the Bentley. I'm not getting a Bentley. Why? You don't have to lock it. Yeah. You could afford it. But what color do you think? Because I spend, I think if you spend too much on a car, you're going to go to hell. Wow. That's. I said I'm going anyway. So I may as well have fun. That sounds like your wife. That sounds like something that Mary you little dooms got Mrs. Doom is there. But yeah, yeah, he's got himself a Bentley and he got himself a new contract and he got himself a win. He's not trying to. He's not trying to. He's not trying to hide anything. He's the most expensive outfits in all of football as far as coaches are concerned. And now he has the most expensive car to. Here is Tyree Kill after the game talking about what happened before the game. You know, so I've been, I've been trying to figure that out too. I've been trying to figure that out too, man. Right now I'm still trying to put it all together. So I'm not going to give you a version that I still don't know what happened. You know what I'm saying? But I do want to say, I do want to be able to use this platform to say like, what if I wasn't Tyree Kill, bro? Like, first case scenario, you know, because it's crazy. Like I want to be a cop one day. I got a state trooper hat all that, you know, so I got a lot of respect for cops, man, but obviously, you know, everybody has bad apples in every situation, you know, so I want to be able to, you know, use this platform, you know, to figure out to figure out a way to like flip this and, you know, make it a positive on both ends on my end and then also mine the day, you know, so that way we can team together and, you know, do something positive for the community because that's what it's all about, right? Like, you guys are here to like protect us as individuals and, you know, I have a platform and I want to be able to team up with you guys. So that's all I got to say. I'm just glad that my teammates were there to like support me in that situation because I felt alone, you know, and when they showed up, it made like, it made me realize that we got a good team to shoot out for them to like put they, for them to put their life on the line, you know what I'm saying? So it was amazing to see, man. You know, mature response from him and some have struggled to reconcile what he said about trying to turn it into a positive for everyone and Drew Rosen asked telling me last night that his lawyers are considering all options and litigation as possible. But here's the reality, regardless of what you are seeking through litigation, litigation is an external means of holding people accountable. It's how you investigate things that otherwise might be hidden, might otherwise be buried, might otherwise get lost. Oh, we can't find that document. We can't find the body cam footage. Oh, it wasn't turned on. Whatever bull crap you would get when you are dealing with a court system and the power of subpoenas and court orders, that's how you get to the truth, right? He could donate everything he gets to charity. It's not about the money. It's about the accountability that comes from being able to go to the civil justice system. That's why they call it civil. It's not shotgun justice. We're doing it in a civil manner. We're going to get to the truth. And I hope he does sue if that's the way to get to the truth. Well, yes. You're exactly right. It is about that. It's not like he's going to, like you said, get money. It's about these are the steps that need to be taken to get the police department to look into it a little bit more and start to self-indestigate and do all that stuff. So that I understand. And, you know, again, it's an unfortunate incident. I'm sure he wasn't perfect in the situation, and I think he realizes that. But from all due accounts here, and I think you and I know enough people in Miami and whatever else, so we'll start to hear our stories, it doesn't seem like he did anything enough to be thrown on the ground in handicap and in handcuffs, excuse me. So that's the bottom line, but hopefully it's all in the past and it can all get cleared up and- But let's get to the bottom of it. Let's find out what it was. So they, you know, I don't know what it is. You give somebody a gun, you give somebody a badge, and he's right, there are some bad apples or some good apples. There are a lot of good cops. But there's some. I don't know what it is. I think it attracts people who want to be that way. Seems very Scotty Shuffler golf, but I want to be, you know, I'm kind of an asshole and I want to be an asshole, so give me a gun and give me a badge and I'll have a license to be an asshole. Yeah, yeah. I feel like that's part of the mindset. For some of them. I knew a guy that I grew up with, and again, I know a lot of cops and all of them are great, but to your point, bad apples, they belong, they're everywhere. I knew a guy that I grew up with became a cop. I go, "Hey, how's it going to be a police officer?" The first thing he told me was, "Well, it's pretty cool. I get to mess with people and fuck with people and do that." Hey, that's cool. Whoa, that's great. Yeah, that's what I wanted to hear from our police. But no, most of them, all of them are great people and do a lot of things, but there are some on a power trip, and I think we just caught one there yesterday. So that's unfortunate. Can I say one more thing about the Jaguars? Yes, you can. We talked about Travis ATN and the Fumble. The best running back on the Jacksonville Jaguars is Tank's Bigsby, and I've kind of been pubbing him all pre-season on my podcast because he's really jumped out to me. I think I even said something to you on one of the shows. But yesterday, even the way he played, he's a better runner than Travis ATN. And with a fumble like that and the way Bigsby ran, that's going to make people in that building start to go, "Wait, should we be playing Bigsby more than ATN?" We'll see where that goes, but I think it's interesting nonetheless to look at this, ATN being a first round pick, Bigsby second year from Auburn, but he's a baller, and they got something there, and I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up being the guy there in Jacksonville. Each had 12 carries yesterday, Bigsby had 73 yards, 6.1 per carry, ATN had 44 and that fumble. Yeah. And you're right, at some point you have to get past the, "Oh, we used the first round pick on this guy," and just play your best guys. And if it's an acknowledgement to whoever that maybe we should have taken someone else, so be it, you're in a position where the goal is, put your best players on the field, use your best players, because your locker room's going to notice that too. Oh, ATN's still the starter, and he's still the guy that's getting all the touches, because he's the guy they used the first round pick on, why isn't Bigsby getting the ball more? You want a coaching staff that is willing and able to do that, because Doug Peterson wasn't there when ATN was drafted. You want a front office that will support Peterson, if he does it, because the front office was there. The front office did draft him in the first round. Right. Yeah, no, I agreed with that. We'll see where that goes, but that's where the, yeah. The politics of football can kind of sometimes get in the way from, hey, let's just play the best players on our football team, we're so, we'll see where it goes. ATN's still very good. I don't mean to be disrespectful like that in any way. I just think that Bigsby, the Bigsby guy is the real deal. And hey, the Jaguars are under a lot of pressure this year. Their owner has recently said they need to win. He wants it now, not in the future. And yesterday is the kind of game where it should have been one to know Jaguars, and now it's 0-1. One more from Tyree Kill, because this is a different, unusual situation. And I don't want to give it short shrift. I want to make sure we've heard everything we need to hear. Here's Tyree Kill talking about how what happened before yesterday's game gave him extra motivation to perform the way he did once the game was played. What got's my like, I was in my like hubby phase, like driving the work, feeling good. Then like, when all this happened, bro, I got turned up, I was pissed off, bro. I got on the sideline, I was teeed up, bro. Today is like the first day I really blocked somebody. I pancaked somebody today, number 91, 6-8 pancaked them, pancaked them. I did that today, man. So I was fired up today, man. And I needed that, like I needed that, man, because sometimes I can get lazy, I can get this and that and get boring, because I'm like, I want fast, I can run by you, and I need that. You feel me? So it is what it is. Hey, and it wouldn't be easy for anyone to put that behind them, something you never expected, something that just kind of happens next thing you know, you're faced down on the ground. There's one video that someone sent me, it looks like he was walking by and a cop hit him in the leg. I still couldn't see it clearly, but hopefully we will get a clear understanding of what happened, what caused it, who perceived what, who said what to whom, why it escalated to the point that it did, how Kaleis Campbell got involved. I would like to get to the bottom of all of it. And as I said earlier, I know a lot of people are like, oh, there's too many lawsuits and all they hate lawyers. It's usually the people who don't like being held accountable that say those things. Let's use that system to get to the truth, because that may be the only way to get there. Yeah, I hear you there. We'll see where it goes. And I know you'll stay on top of it there, Johnny, lawyer guy too. So you'll be on it and hopefully the situation gets handled the break. Hey, this is the kind of case that makes me wish I was still practicing. Yeah, this gets you going, right, you might block somebody on the football field. No, no. Just you. Okay. All right. This is one of the differences between rehearsals live because sometimes things change from rehearsal to live and there's a miscommunication or somebody's head was up his ass and didn't realize that I was supposed to stay in the spot. You got some look at it. You got a little speed though. A little pep in your step. Good job there old man. Hey. Hey. Thanks. The magic is in the mistakes. That was it. It is. Someone said, I love that we showed that. Oh, man. It's not. I don't. I mean, and it's funny because, you know, once you have something like that happen and it's time to deliver in the allotted time that you have, there's a chance that you're going to urinate down your leg or get completely flossed or forget what you're going to say. Cool and calm. Well, you were like, you were like, Brady. It's just funny. I thought it was funny. I just thought it was funny. It was. It was great. I love that on our show, Football Night in America, we're taking a little bit more of the curtain, you know, we're separating the curtains a little bit. Showing you behind the scenes a little bit. We're going to walk around our awesome new studio that we have and you're going to see us walking as we're talking to the camera and all that. I think it's a great atmosphere and, you know, way to live in a sup on Friday night for the day. It's intentional. But we take it wherever we can get it. All right. It wasn't intentional for the Bears to struggle offensively on Sunday and their opener against the Titans and somehow, somehow, the Bears found a way to win. Even though Caleb Williams was 14 for 29 for 93 yards, he became the first number one overall pick to win his first starts and David Carr. That's where a quarterback went in 2002. Well, yeah, because he didn't do anything to contribute to that win. And I think he would be the first to admit it. He would. I love this attitude, even though he wasn't playing well and cheering for his team. And then also what I'll say too, because one of the knocks was him is he's going to turn the ball over and be reckless when he gets in the NFL, even though he didn't do that in college football, really. But he didn't make any dicey decisions. He had some other issues, but as far as word association. Well, we're not there yet. Oh, sorry. We're talking about this game a little bit. Okay. Sorry. Okay. Cool. My bad. We're back in all these rookie quarterbacks, learning this yesterday, preseason is a little different than the regular season when the starters are out there. And now, yes, it's a real regular season game plan. You get coverages and defense where you go, wait, I never saw this in the preseason. What the hell is this defense? What the hell is this coverage said, Hut? Oh, no, it all changed again. Right. So we saw them all have to learn that. But man, Iber flus, the bear, it was like a 85 bears win almost what they did yesterday. That's what was cool. We saw them do this at the end of last year defense special teams just be physical, out tough view. And then Tennessee made a few mistakes and they capitalize and what a win for the bears. And that's the best news for the bears because we knew the defense was there. This is the process of supercharging the offense and it's going to take a little while. Here's Caleb Williams very quickly on the struggles of the bears offensively in their week one win. It was, you know, it was a frustrating game. But the most important thing is that, and it shows a bunch of the personality of this team, I would say, the fight, the very desiliency that we had, you know, like when Coach got into the locker room, he got into the locker room and the first thing he said was, you know, guys, we don't, you know, this pass, you know, this pass, how much every time that we had, you know, when we got into the locker room, I think it's around 15 minutes. We got in there and Coach was like, guys, the most teams that I've been on and all these other things, you know, y'all walked in here and said to each other that, you know, we're not going to lose this game, we're going to go out there, we're going to keep fighting, we got this, we got this and we weren't shaming on anybody, we weren't, you know, defense not, you know, being on offense, all these other things. And so, you know, it just, it shows us personality, how much everybody believes in ourselves, the Chicago Bears, defense believes in offense, offense believes in defense, special teams, and so forth. And so, you know, we're great to get this win, happy to get this win, celebrating the locker room, it was pretty cool, first time celebrating in here. There he is, the number one overall pick and the Bears ultimately got it done even though it was a rough day. Let's get right into the word association. All right, well, let's let these play out. I mean, he missed some throws, he got the, he got the pass, he's, what, okay, we'll go in the word. Do the whole thing. God, you're doing it. All right. I got you. I'm catching on. I'm a little tired and foggy here. Okay. So shut your mouth hot. There buddy. All right. But yeah, pressing. That's what I'll say. He pressed all day. He never felt comfortable in rhythm and never looked like it. And I'll say this too. I don't think they did him any favors yesterday either. I think they were a little so careful with him that they never back the Titans off in any capacity. He missed the throw. He definitely missed a few throws that we don't see him miss, opening game jitters, all that. Had Keenan Allen drop a touchdown pass before the half, right? That would have helped gain a little momentum. But yeah, then it became ugly. He took some bad sacks because he was trying to get away from guys to extend plays and do stuff like that. But yeah, a learning, a learning lesson for the, the young, the young quarterback in Chicago. You kind of made the point earlier that I was going to make here. We're not in Kansas anymore. Yeah. It's not the preseason anymore. Right. It's different. Yeah. The hard way. He still got special skills that we saw on display in the preseason. But yeah, you're facing real defenses. Yes. You have to adjust to them. They're adjusting to you. You're not just making a cameo appearance and then standing on the sideline and watching someone else who's not going to be on the team in two weeks anyway, finishing out the game, you've got to take it all the way through to the end and there's highs and lows. And they fought through it collectively and that will help him. Yes, it will. It definitely will help him. Hey, they have a team there in Chicago. That's the important thing. He will get better. The offense will get better, but yes, they never attacked Tennessee yesterday way too many first and second down runs to start drives and it's like, hey, it's stirred down and we're not in rhythm yet. And now they know you're going to pass. So pass it again. So they didn't help him out. They will be different this week. They're going to have to be. They're going to have to play the Texans. They're not going to be able to depend on their defense to shut a team out or do something like that. So the offense is going to have to push the envelope and I think it'll serve him better when they do that. Like I said, I think they managed him a little too much yesterday. And we'll see them on Sunday night, football week to bears at the Texans in a game that might be a long night for the best, but right, but we'll see commanders quarterback Jaden Daniels. What is your word? Association. Smooth. That's what I would say again, not perfect, but man, you know, I think out of all the rookies yesterday, the three rookies, he definitely played the best. There's no doubt about that. Now there wasn't a lot of wow throws and they were, you know, kind of dominated. Their defense just got steamrolled by the Buccaneers offense. So he was behind the eight ball, you know, very early on in the football game. But yeah, we saw plays like this, rookie quarterback mistakes, all of that. But smooth thrower, accurate. He was pretty efficient for the day. And then this is what he brought to the table because the first time he took off yesterday, Mike, I went, whoa, he is fast. That's the thing. It was SEC defensive players told us that the combine is the best play I've ever faced. Yes. Jaden Daniels, because he's there and then he's gone. He is going to be in the conversation for fastest quarterback in football right off the bat. Like you see here, once he opens up, yeah, he can run with the Justin Fields and Lamar Jackson's in the world. I'm not sure he's not faster once he opens up, but it was a good start. Just a tough game, tough environment. The bucks are good and they don't have a great offensive running game to help him out a little bit. He's going to go through some bumps. Overall, I thought this was the best rookie performance that we saw yesterday under the three eyes. My word association was be careful, though. Here we are with design runs late in the game, taking hits. We talked about Lamar Jackson after Thursday night's game where he had all those carries and was getting banged around. You got to protect the guy. And I know you're getting him reps, but you got to protect the guy. We saw that happen. That's always really his rookie year when he got injured against the Ravens and then the ACL went or whatever was left at the ACL went and the playoffs against the Seahawks. You got to protect this guy and you got to know when to not unleash his running when the game is out of hand. Get him to next week. Yeah. That is one thing I worry about with Jay Knowles, his body and the fact that offensive line not great. I'm not sure if they're going to be a great running team. Their defense will be, you know, good, but I don't think it's going to be great. By the way, look, yesterday, I am worried that there'll be so much on him to make plays and then they'll just be in the shotgun and he'll be trying to make it happen. And it could be a little too much for the young stud. Last one, Bonix Broncos rookie flustered. I think that's the word I would look at that offense never got going yesterday. He never looked comfortable. He didn't look anything like he did in the preseason. And again, that's a, that's a master class. Let me just tell you, beating the starter quarterback in the NFL, Mike McDonald and a Baltimore Ravens-ish type of scheme, right? That's your first lesson, like, whoa, they're doing a lot of different crazy crap on the defensive side of the ball. Let alone, you go to the arguably the hardest place to play in an outdoor stadium at all in football. And you could see the crowd noise, the speed of the game, everything definitely affected Bonix. He had a few positive moments, has to touchdown run here, which is a nice little play. But yeah, it was, it was shaky and that offense really struggled yesterday, making, making anything happen. Yeah. Baptism by beast quick. And that's what it is. And they may never face a tougher situation. All year long. You're right. You're right. You're right. This may be the best defense in all of football. There are some studs on that defense and they are creative. There's no question. But it was rough. Yeah. 26 for 42, 138 yards, two interceptions, no touchdowns, 47.5. Yeah. Pacerating. And he led the Broncos in rushing with 35 yards. That's a problem too. Yeah. You gotta have a running game. You got no chance against a Seahawks. Agreed. You know, they've made some investments into their offensive line. I thought they'd be able to run the ball on Seattle and help him out a little bit when they didn't do that. Yeah. It became too much on him. And in that environment, and you said it right, Seattle does have some studs. They have some playmakers. And they will be better on defense with Mike McDonald, the coach. And Mike McDonald, first year head coach, first game, getting the victory. We'll talk about more of the success that the new head coaches had on the first Sunday of the 2024 regular season next year on this Monday edition of PFT Life. Every one of you contributed. I'm so proud of the new players, the new coaches, people at all the excuses that couldn't happen. But you all did it. And I'm spoiled now. I'm going to count on a lot more though. Yeah. I think most importantly, we've given you this number. Robert Kraft, very casual. I like that. I like that. He's seen him in a suit. Yeah. He's got some style. I mean, he's like really the first old man. I saw like sport and like cool sneakers with a suit. Yeah. Right. He's ahead of the game. He's got some style, Mr. Kraft. Well, his team had some style yesterday, went into Cincinnati and beat the Bengals 16 to 10, with some power running and serviceable play from Jacobi Percette at quarterback. Great defense. That's going to be their formula. Yeah. I think it is. It has to be. They're not going to be super explosive in the past game. The one thing I think we all overlooked is, hey, Jerrod Mayo was a big part of that defense of staff and these great defenses in New England. The defense was good last year in New England. Let's not forget about that. As bad as the team was, the defense was still very good. We saw that once again. They took an approach that I've heard Bella, check and Brady talk about a lot. You don't always have to just reinvent the wheel. Sometimes if you just play detailed football and don't make the mistakes and sit back and let the other team make the mistakes, you can win the football game and they kind of took that approach and good for them. They out hit Cincinnati, Cincinnati, yes, it's fair to think where they looking down the road to week two match up with the Chiefs and their slow start bullcrap that we always see at a Cincinnati is frustrating. Jack Taylor, the head coach of the Bengals is one in five in season openers and Joe Burrow, the quarterback is one in eight in week one and week two games. That's so they know tourists. That's a culture problem, yes, they do. More on the culture problem in a second. For now, let's hear from Jerrod Mayo talking about his first career regular season win. Yeah, the day started off solid, you know, just like in the other day, walking off the field, though really getting in that victory formation, you know, just kind of feel the rush over yourself and I'm going to enjoy this one here for the next couple hours. But truth be told, you know, it's what have you done for me lately, type of business. So time to turn the page, you know, not trying to run on anyone's parade, but turn the page and get ready for the next game. Yeah, that's how it always goes. You enjoy it for a little while and then you move on, but no one expected it. That's a full Gatorade back. That is. He got that. He got that. He was hot. He wasn't hot after that. Let me look can work because I was saying this last night, we do the YouTube Applebee's deal after you go do your podcast and abandon us, but I'm used to it and I should have been used to it. You've been abandoned me for that. I should be used to abandon me for anyway. The run the ball, run the ball physicality, you know, you get so many high-octane passing offenses, it makes it harder for defenses to prepare for the Patriots because they're not used to that. Yeah, you're right. It's a quarterback league. Everybody's trying to throw the football. Do that. This player on their offense is that running back. Remindre Stevenson is awesome and he got rewarded with the contract because they knew that, but I guess we'll be the formula for the year. You're saying it right, Mike. They're going to play defense. I don't think it's ever going to be 40 points in a game or 35. They're going to win. If they win games, it'll be 20 to 17, you know, 21, 14, whatever, some there along the lines there, but a great win for Jarod now. Nobody gave them a chance. We picked them in our little pod survivor poll. I picked them to be, you know, dead in the gutter somewhere. And there I am. I'm dead in the gutter now. I had the Saints. You're the Saints. I picked the Saints. Yeah, so you're good. Then I'm dead in the gutter. You mentioned the Bengals earlier in cultural issues and, you know, we thought it was changing with Joe Burrow. Yeah. They paid Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow scared them enough. Joe Burrow, I think, made it clear to them, first and foremost. If I won from Ohio, I wouldn't have played for you in the first place. And Bengals fans go crazy when I say that. I'm sorry, but it's true. If he was from Athens, Georgia, not Athens, Ohio, he would not have played for the Bengals. Then they had to prove it to him that he wanted to stay. They did. And they paid him. They sold the naming rights to the stadium so they had the money to pay him. But beyond him, you have to scratch and claw and fight and scrap and pull teeth from an alligator to try to get Mike Brown to pay you. And that's one of the problems. This Jamart Chase thing is hovering over the team. He Higgins hovering over the team, and especially Chase. Chase did not know what he was going to do yesterday. He went back and forth and back and forth about whether he was going to play. He ultimately did. This contract that they've offered him, from what I understand, oh, hey, we're giving him 35 million a year, just like Justin Jefferson. Yeah. But the structure is crap. The structure is horrible. So oh, well, we'll reluctantly give you 35 million a year. But the game to all the little things, you know, that make a contract good aren't there. And, and now they're all in one and the contract issue is still there. Right. Is he going to practice? Right. This is all unforced error. And this is all an indicator of a team that doesn't prioritize winning. It prioritizes making money and not spending money, but not winning football guys. You might be right. I mean, this is a self-inflicted wound. I know that. Yeah. The way the Jamart Chase thing is being handled, the drama they've had a deal with with that and Higgins. Don't give me any like, oh, it's a, it's not a distraction. It's a distraction for a team that's looking to go to the Super Bowl. It's the number. Every day is like, oh, what's Jamart going to do today? Ah, I lay. He not going to practice today. Oh, his hamstring hurts today. He not practicing it. You don't think the guys in the locker room? What's the end game for that? Oh, he's sick today. Oh, yeah. I'll get sure he's sick. But, but that's the thing. I thought he wasn't going to play yesterday. Right. I hear you. What is the end game? Even if he's playing, when's he going to practice? Is he going to practice? So, when does it end? When they want to pony up the money and do the contract the right way. You said it right. That's when it's going to end until then he's going to give shenanigans and he should. That's fine with me. I got no problem with that. But yeah, that's an issue. That's owner caused. And then when I talked about the culture problem, yeah, I meant like, hey, this is a really good football team. We know that. Zach Taylor coaches. I mean, these tough, we see them always turn around. But I mean, but the culture problem is they obviously have to reevaluate how they do training camp in the preseason. I mean, you spit out the week one and two stats there. Joe Burrow, one of the best quarterbacks in footballs, one in eight and week one in two games. Yeah, that's something wrong with the football team in general. That's not being addressed with tough enough practices, maybe expanding the offense a little bit more through training camp. As you've heard me say the last few years, they're usually way too simple early on in the season where I go. They're running plays that teams ran in the OTAs and all these defenses are all used to them uncomfortable, but they never gotten a rhythm yesterday. And then when they got close to kind of, oh, they might get it going and put New England in a spot now where they can't run the ball and just play that style. They fumble going in the end zone with Tanner Hudson, Gasecki dropped the touchdown pass to play before that. They had the drop punt, right? They gave the Patriots a short field. So they, you know, mess some things up themselves there yesterday, even though they didn't play well, they could have still stole that game, but it wasn't good. With the graphic backup, please, of the Joe Burrow. Yeah, what were you grinning at? How come? Well, the one win, week one, 2021, Vikings overtime, 27, 24. That was the one where your guy, Mike Zimmer, decided to defend the 50 like it was the goal line. Remember that? Yes. And they just lobbed it over the top, the CJU Zama and got themselves in chip shot field position. Right. So thanks, Mike. That's at the back. You're back. You're back. That's at the tone for a bad year. I never left. Right. We won't be leaving yet. We will draft yesterday's standouts from around the NFL next year on PFT Live. Draft Kings Sportsbook is the number one place to bet touchdowns that new customers can bet $5 and get $250 in bonus bets instantly plus get one month in NFL plus premium download the app and use promo code PFT Live when you sign up and please bet responsibly. All right. Sunday standouts week one. What do you got? Let's go. Okay. I got a lot of time to think about this. I do. I'm going to go. The one I want to go. I'm afraid I'm going to steal it from you, but I want to give it. I want to give it to him as Sam Darnold. All right. All right. All right. All right. You okay? Go ahead. Yep. I mean, just dominated my New York football Giants on a day where Lawrence Taylor and Phil Sims were out the field and they were 100 year anniversary of the Giants. How dare they do that? How dare your team do that? Have a better team. Sam Darnold. He seems ghost in that life. Yeah. You're right. But he came out firing. It was awesome to see. I'm really happy for him and what he did. Again, Kevin O'Connell is is a quarterback whisperer. He's the man. You know, Tony Dungy said that last night, but what do you start the game 12 or 12 for like 130 yards? Yeah. That 99 yard drive went forth and two for the touchdown. Yeah. Fall on the money. Yeah. Right. Exactly right. He threw the ball. Great yesterday. Great accuracy. Aaron Jones is going to help out that football team. If you say it's healthy. Yes. That's the position. Easy doom. Okay. Just enjoy the freaking win yesterday. I left. Okay. Doctor. All right. But I'll give Sammy Darnold. It was incredible. It was. And I've been saying this is his best chance last best chance to become an NFL starter. And it'll be a good problem to have if he has a great year and the Vikings are like, what are we doing? JJ McCarthy with the name. We got Sam Darnold. What do we do? So, so far so good. Right. This week, the 49ers come to town. Oh, then they play the text. Oh, then they play it. But that's great. I mean, Darnold is going to have a field for the 49ers a little bit and we saw O'Connell and Kirk Cousins, they were one of the few teams that tore up that 49er defense last year. So that'd be fun to watch. All right. I'll start with Joe mixing my buddy, Joe, 159 rushing yards I said to him yesterday. You're too old to have that many merchants. This is shit. I'm in my prime. I love it. And I thought it was great because I was curious about this whole angle with the Bengals because they were going to cut him and then they traded and it's like, don't you wish the Bengals were on your schedule this year? He said, no, they, they left me where I'm at. I'm going to leave them where they're at. But he's thrilled to be with the Texans in a position where they need him, they rely on him. Oh, he was great. He's the, you know, it's the CJ Stroud Show, but oh, wait, we got this guy that can bang it between the tackles and churn up yardage. Why throw it if you can run it? Look at overtime last night. Why throw it if you can run it? It demoralizes the other team. If you can just pound it and pound it and pound it. Hey, watch out if the, if the freaking Houston Texans can run the ball like that with the Bobby Slovic offense. And now he can get you worried about Joe Nixon and their whole line when it's healthy, it's good. And now he can unveil all his Shanahan play action passes. Holy crap. Batman, that offense has potential to take off to even another level of what we saw last year. But man, you said it. Joe Nixon, how many great eight and 10 yard runs that he had yesterday as long as run of the day was 13 and he still ran for what, 150, 130, whatever it was, 159, 159. Just a bunch of great six and eight, 10 yard runs throughout the day. So good for him. 30 carries. 59. I got to give, um, there's this guy up in Buffalo. His name is Josh Allen, giddy up, giddy up, Josh Allen. He was awesome yesterday. You shouldn't be allowed to pick him because you picked him to lose yesterday. I know. I will say once he got going, I went, what the hell was I thinking, right? And that's where Josh Allen is crazy good because even when they're being outplayed, but not outplayed by too much, he's so talented that he can close that gap and make Buffalo look better than what they are. They got to go and late in the second half, right? Got some penalties, got a touchdown before the half, got a touchdown to start the third quarter. And yeah, Superman and Buffalo. That's what it is. I don't know how anybody can watch the Buffalo Bills and not just go, Josh Allen is amazing. He's one of the best players in football. I know he hasn't won the Super Bowl yet and he can't beat my homes in the playoffs. I mean, all that is just bull crap talk by people out there. Incredible player still going to, we don't know who their go to weapon is in the pass game. And I think they're still going to figure that out. But he made great plays with his legs, his arm, and they looked in trouble there for a little bit and then totally flipped the script on the Cardinals. Nobody is giving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers the respect they deserve except me. And I'm sure they would rather I not. They would rather it be unanimous. Nobody believes in us. It is of the perfect narrative and Baker Mayfield. Our guy Baker Mayfield 24 for 30, 289 passing yards, four touchdowns, no picks a passer rating of 146 for Baker for a, and this ties back to what we talked about earlier. And this is something only the Browns could pull off by, by Baker, we're going to give all that money, all those draft picks for Deshawn Watson, how much better would the Browns be right now if Baker Mayfield was still their quarterback? They'd be better. I don't know. There's no question about that. So your mayfield made some high level, awesome throws yesterday when the game, what was it? The first five drives of the game scored, they scored, right? I think so. I mean, they, they, they put them in the, in the rear view in our hurry there in Tampa Bay. And again, what I love about Baker Mayfield is he's an aggressive decision maker. He's a gunslinger and it wasn't like he was 289 yards throwing screens and slants. It's back shoulders, it's fades, it's go routes, it's deep in cuts. It's one aggressive throw and play after another. Let alone, they got an offensive line there too. That's going to be able to protect him, let things get up and downfield and they ran the ball yesterday. I'm with you. Tampa was one of those teams. I didn't pick to go to the playoffs, but I really struggled with it and, you know, I could be wrong about that. Running back Rashad White recently said that Mayfield looks like an action figure this year that he's lost weight and is in better shape and so far so good for a guy that couldn't find a home a year ago, went to Tampa Bay was a, would have been a free agent again, ended up staying in Tampa Bay and there may be some teams out there kicking themselves that they didn't. Yeah. That they didn't shoot Baker Mayfield. All right. Who else you got? Well, I had one other guy. I'm going to wait because we're going to talk about this team later. So I'm not going to throw this guy. Love right now. I was going to go TJ Watt. If you want to go there, you could take it because I'm going to go with Derek car. I was hard on Derek car last year. I've been really a career defender of Derek car, but last year was not good. If you listen to me and Mike or me and my podcast, I was constantly, oh man, is jumping in the pocket, doesn't let playoffs, plays develop down the field, quick to check it down and just get the ball out of his hand. That wasn't what we saw yesterday from Derek car yesterday. He made a few throws in the game where I went, man, Derek car hung in the pocket. Last year's Derek car would have said, no, I'm the hell with this. I'm throwing the ball away or getting out of dodge. But him with Rashid Shahid, the running game got going, but most impressively, I was impressed with his, again, aggressive throws and ability to stand in the pocket and make big plays. If he can do that, Saints will be very dangerous this year. Here's a game we haven't discussed and a guy who I have felt bad for his entire career. He has shown that he has a high level of ability, but he's been injured. It was a knee. Last year it was an Achilles, JK Dobbs, joining forces. I mean, this is like Bill Murray, Ghostbusters, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, Mass hysteria. Michigan guy and Ohio State guy, Jim Harbaugh and JK Dobbs coming together, 10 carries for 135 yards. That's like, remember when Devon Achan was doing that last year with the Dolphins? That's 13.5 per carry, 10 carries 135 yards in the touchdown. And he always had a high yards per carry in Baltimore. He's got to stay healthy, but man, that's what the charges are going to be, even with Justin Herbert, who only had 144 passing yards yesterday. Run the ball, run the ball, tough physicality, Jim Harbaugh, who's got better than us. We won't screw up. It's a typical type win and I was a great call by you, but JK Dobbs, that's one of the great stories of the year to me. I mean, that the worst injury you can have at all, football right now is patella tended or Achilles. And he had both. He was rehabbing with Rogers last year. So I was so happy when he broke some of those runs yesterday, got the touchdown, awesome by JK Dobbs, certainly one of the great stories of Sunday. We've got a worry meter. We're going to crank it up with the G and others next year on PFT Live, you know, up here in New York, sports radio, 66, the fan, W F A N. Hey, what the hell's going on with Daniel Jones, they got to get rid of Daniel Frickin Jones, they can they trade him right now. Oh, and it's going to be active on sports radio 66 because Friday night, three touchdowns from Saquon Barkley, you know it. And now yesterday, the football team was a pile of steaming caca at Melash Stadium. Was it not? Yeah, it was. My God, it's going to be a long day in New York. A long year or day, it was a long day yesterday and a long day today on the radio and it's only going to get worse. No doubt about it. I mean, it's going to be every caller in the world's calling in W F and a crap on the Giants and day ball and Daniel Jones today. It wasn't pretty. There's no doubt about that. There was nothing to look at that was pretty. The demons got tore up. They have secondary problems. We discussed that a little yesterday, you and me. So that's an issue. They still can't run the ball. And Daniel Jones, yes, it wasn't good. Just a look at the two interceptions. I get that one was really late in the football game. When the game was over, the other one was a screen pass, right? That was a great catch by Andrew. Great catch. And most more times than not, right, a tackle is responsible for cutting that guy or knocking him down. Now, again, you got to see a guy and try to throw around him and he didn't really try to do that. But I mean, the Vikings fumbled early, gave the Giants a short feel and then he went, "Oh, maybe we can get something going here and get on top of them early." But no, ugly, just get a feel gold. And then from that point on, Sam Donald, O'Connell, they just started tearing up the Giants. That play was great, too. That was really cool. Justin Jefferson started in the backfield and went in motion. He was totally going forward, clearly going forward to snap. But when he goes in motion, everybody pays attention to him and the tight end runs right behind him. There's a big one. Now let me see that play again. I want to wear it a whole more time. He was a lightning strike. There was a guy in the end that was like, "Here it is. Oh my God." That was TJ Whiteish right there, that kind of play. But ugly, ugly offense by the Giants, certainly, I don't know where it goes. We'll see. It's not the most impressive roster in football. We know that, but I certainly expected a little bit of showing from the G-Man yesterday than what we saw there. Speaking of TJ Watt, the Falcons, I guess, should be concerned. They should be glad that there weren't more Falcons fans at the games that Steelers took over the place. Otherwise, it might have been, "We want Pennix." They went to the silent count early. TJ Watt was telling me that after the game. That's crazy. That is just a tremendous advantage. There was a snap that hit the guy in motion. That was because of the noise. TJ Watt fought through three Falcons to recover the thing. There it is. I think it hit him in a pretty sensitive area too. But Watt goes and gets the ball. The Franklin beans? Yeah, that's right. Oh, but Jalen Warren got kicked in the Franklin beans by Justin Fields after that weird fourth down. Oh, he hit his hand. His Franklin beans are okay. Yeah, well, good. So, TJ Watt told me the thing about, he had that great jump where he was called offside. Studied film. That was cool. You got this now. Bound to tell. Right. Used it and the guy called it offside. It was perfect. It was perfect. It was so good. It looked wrong. And he said the official said to him, "At halftime, I messed up." Yeah. Yeah. Because, yeah, that's the thing. When you get the absolute perfect jump, it looks like you win. Because you beat everybody off. Yeah. It's off the ball. But what a Steelers win. I mean, field goals. Six field goals. Six field goals. The offense aligned the good run in the ball. Justin Fields was efficient. We got the ball to George Pickens. That was a good thing. Najee Harris looked good. And then they, they, you know, Atlanta's a good football team. But again, this is where Tomlin plays preseason. They tackle. They hit their physical. They come into week one ready for battle. And Atlanta's going, "Wait. This is our first time hitting and tackling. We haven't done this." And it showed yesterday. Well, and good news for Atlanta. They don't play the Steelers every week, so maybe it'll get better. But Kirk Cousins was, you know, there were moments where, well, I've seen this movie before. Kirk Cousins drops back to pass and he's swallowed up by the pass rush because he can't run away from it. He can't move. They are a good offensive line. But again, it was their first time out there too. And that Steelers D line, and we know with those pass rushers and Cam Hayward in the middle, yeah, they were coming yesterday. And then especially with off in Achilles injury, he's less mobile than ever before. So they were out of sync and, yeah, they got to Kirk Cousins and made him feel uncomfortable. They got the Eagles on Monday night. Yeah. And look, I don't know how many weeks go by before you say, let's just see what Pennies can do. It's one game that may be the best defense they've seen all year, but that's not what you pay $100 million for. No. What Cousins did yesterday. You're right about that. All right. We will wrap up this Monday edition of PFT Live with a very quick Monday night football preview right after this. Well, it was a rocky road for Rogers, definitely, and I don't know if people who knew him when he was younger don't want to say things. They don't want to alienate him. They don't want to end up on the island. There's a whole chapter about the island that he puts people on that he doesn't like. It's where you are. You're on the island off the island. That's what they did with you. You're on an island with an underground cave that's got a cage over the top of it. And you're in there. That's where he puts you. That's fine. I don't mind. I don't mind. My life's no different. I mean, no, no, no, no, that was getting to make a point there. Don't waste your time when you crap like that. Ken Jennings is on the island. I love that because he wanted to be the jazz player. He's still the quarterback of the New York Jets. We know how last year, Monday, they football went not very well. He's got Leonard Floyd, the same guy that got in last year is coming after the night. Don't chip. Don't chip. Leonard Floyd. He's going to jump right over it. I'm excited for this game. The Jets are coming to prove a point and say we're here, right? The 49ers better. We're ready. I think they will be ready.
