Hello, I'm Stephen Willis from the Lockdown Ole Miss podcast. He is Tom Vanderford in his weekly segment that he does on this show. And Tom, Ole Miss is outscored as first two opponents, 128 to 3, and they had their first road game this weekend. I'm pretty fired up about what I've saw over the first two weeks, even though it was against Furman and Middleton or something. Oh, I am too. I am too. I just want to see this build on it. You know, I told somebody recently, it may have been you, I can't remember, that I know what Alabama fans felt like when Nick Saban was their coach. All I could talk about after the game Sunday was, God, I hope our secondary gets better. And on 52 to 3. Yeah, 250 yards given up, and it's like our secondary, we got to get some work on that. I know, right, that's unbelievable. But I did see where somebody predicted us to handily beat Wake Forest, but they predicted Wake Forest to score 27 points. And I just don't think that's going to happen. If they score, just like I put on Twitter, if they score 27 on us, we got some issues. I spoke with Kenton Grit Gibbs from Walkdown ACC on Thursday. And he talked about Wake Forest's offense. Wake Forest's, their only hope in this game is to get into a scoring match with Ole Miss. If it's a low scoring game, they do not have the defense that is good enough to stop Ole Miss. So they need a score fest. And with this weird offense, and it is a weird offense, this long mesh, or slow mesh offense, the way they just kind of ride the ball carrier towards the line of scrimmage. If Ole Miss can get pressure on him everything, it could be Katie Bar of the door lights out. But that long mesh can lead to some opportunities for Wake Forest. And Hank Bockmire is a good little quarterback. Nobody else on the offense has graded on that PFF over 75. But Bockmire is a good player. And if he has time to do what he needs to do, Hank does football. I agree. Our secondary is going to have to stay at home. They're going to have to-- the defensive line and the linebackers are going to have to get some pressure there. And like you said, they're going to have to disrupt that mesh. We've seen them do it twice this year with plays similar. We're just blowing it up. So if we see a good defensive line play, I'd like to see us get more quarterback hurries. And I think that'll help as well. But it'll be a good-- it'll be a very good test for our secondary and our defense as well. Yeah, because they do different type stuff, I expect that Pete Golding is going to be scheming something up for that long mesh in particular. I've been thinking all week of what can happen. And obviously, we landed on the interior defensive line and getting penetration. But for other stuff, one thing that I just thought of like a few minutes ago was let Centering Perkins, play linebacker, send him on a gap blitzes just straight up the gut. And just attacking the mesh point there. That with the defensive line can make it to where they're not going to be able to block. Because I was talking to Kenton, and he said, the two major weak points on this Wake Forest team is the offensive line, which that's problematic at best for him. And the other's the secondary. It almost has the potentially best wide receiver room in the whole country. And I think this matchup for Wake Forest is not good at all. But they're going to be a well-coached team. They're going to be able to scheme, because Dave Causson's a good coach. And like I said, that slow mesh is weird. Yeah. Yeah, and it'll take some time getting used to. It's different when you face the scout team than when you face the folks that are doing it every day. So there may be some adjustments in the beginning. The weather may be a factor as well. So that's something to look at as well. Last I heard that it's been basically slowing down. So the chance of rain has been going down, because whatever system is supposed to go through there is just getting a little bit slower. So I think rain-wise, Ole Miss might be in good shape by the time kickoff gets here. But the longer the game goes on, the more into the rain. It's that point now. It could be a second half rain thing, like a Mississippi state game in 2022. Yeah. It's going to be fun to watch. I can't believe I'm watching a football game on the CW. Yes. And between Dawson's Creek and the season premiere of Arrow. Yeah, no crap. I had one of my little Ole Miss engineers buddies today. He says, why is it on the CW? I said, ACC, man. Maybe they're playing Riverdale. Yeah. Or Smallville, Kansas, Smallville High School. Maybe they're taking on the crows. Who knows? We'll see. So Ole Miss is favored currently over Wake Forest by 22 and 1/2 points. It's gone the other way. I think people are getting spooked because, hey, it's Wake Forest's homecoming, by the way. Wake Forest is homecoming in this game. Ole Miss, the over under is 63 and 1/2 points. And honestly, at this point, I feel like the under is a pretty safe play there. I don't think Wake Forest is going to score enough to where 63 and 1/2 can get hit. So it kind of is what it is. Yeah, I don't either. I don't either. Once again, I think a lot of the national pundits are selling us short. I think it's a good thing to have a chip on our shoulders. At the beginning of the season, Jackson Dart wasn't getting any Heisman play at all. And as he keeps progressing, if he can stay healthy, that's taking care of itself. The team's going to take care of itself, Saturday. To be honest with you, I predict-- and we'll get the scores later, I'm sure-- I predict a very easy Ole Miss win. Just because when you look at it, the things that Ole Miss are best at are things that Wake Forest is worst at. And I genuinely think Wake Forest is going to make plays. I do not expect to shut out. I think Ole Miss is going to give up their first touchdown of the season. Yeah, I do. All of that is going to happen. But I do not think that they're going to be good enough to provide a significant threat in this football game. Well, I don't either because those are two biggest strengths. Our strength on defense is our defensive line, going against their offensive line. And our strength on offense, of course, is our passing game. So like you said, that's a dream matchup. But is their home coming? They're well coached. Yeah, always got to give the home team a little bit of credit. So I just think it's going to be in the end, it's going to be an easy win. Yeah, I think this game, honestly, is Vandy rules apply. And as an Ole Miss fan, everybody knows what that means. Get out there fast. Don't let them gain confidence because in the second half, it's a close game. And they get confidence that you get weird. Exactly. That's a wonderful analogy, Vandy rules. They're a lot like a Vandy team. They're going to do everything they can to trip us up. They're going to have some trick plays. Like you said, Closin's a wonderful head coach. So they're going to play us high. I just think we out-talent them. And I believe in our defensive coaching staff. And, of course, our offensive coaches staff. So I'm here with Tom Vanderford. We're talking Ole Miss and Wake Forest. They're playing tomorrow at 5.30 Central Time on the CW right between Riverdale and Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, and a special season premiere episode of The Flash. You do not want to miss that. So, Tom, we do have an interesting situation in this game, and I gave my keys over the course of the week, and I think a big key that I'm sticking to, and I'm just going to do, and think about is the interior defensive line getting penetration is the most important thing, but it's also very important that Juice Wells and Trey Harris, they provide a threat on the outside to prevent safeties from rolling down to where Henry Parrish might have just a monster football game against Wake Forest. - I like your thinking. That's perfect, I would almost bet you that our offensive staff feels the same way. You know, we've got so many weapons. We've got our offensive line is deep, our back feels deep. - Yeah, I think we, like you said earlier in the podcast, we've got to get off on them early. We've got to go up quick. So, I'm hoping that if we win the toss, we actually receive, or that's happening, that's guaranteed. - Or if they defer, that would be good too. I'd love to see us get the ball first. But yeah, those receivers are the key. And you know, those tight ends, you know, but we can go with 12 formation. And there's all kinds of things we can do now that we could not do last year. So, I'm really looking forward to it. - You know, you mentioned about 12 personnel, which against Middle Tennessee, 12 personnel happened. And I got so excited whenever I noticed like, oh, Daquan Wright and Caden Priest courts on the field at the same time. Everybody can imagine how I reacted to seeing that when I realized it was going on. I think they're going to expand that. I think you're going to see that a little bit, especially against Wake Forest. Wake Forest is best part of their defenses. They're defensive line. And another block, they have a way to do mismatches with their tight ends. I think Ole Miss is going to use them. And as the season goes on, you're going to see 12 personnel become a norm in my opinion. - I agree. I agree. I think that, especially as we get into SEC play, you'll see a lot more 12 personnel. Now that we have the horses to do it, last year we did not have the players to do it. - Yeah, because Michael Tric couldn't get his head screwed on the street. - Exactly, exactly. I'm glad he's doing it good at Baylor. Good luck to him. - Yeah. All right, so in this game right here, my prediction that I did this morning was Ole Miss beating Wake Forest 41 to 10. Obviously, that's an under, that's a cover for Ole Miss 'cause I have Ole Miss winning about 31 points. So I think Ole Miss is going to do their part. Wake Forest is not going to do theirs. - You know, I'm a little bit different. I'm 52 to 13. I just think that, you know, that's for some reason, that's what my gut's telling me. So we'll find out. We'll see how that looks as well. So what are your plans for this weekend, buddy? - Man, oh goodness. So we're doing some remodeling. So of course, you know, I'm not physically able to do it. We've hired some contractors. So looking forward to getting Matt finally done, and it's remodeling on the outside of our home. And other than that, oh, I've got something funny to tell you. - Okay. - Comes on Friday night. Well, while this is on, my son and I will be in Tupelo at Cadence Bank Arena, watching Casey and the Sunshine Band. - Where was there? - Got him, like 96 years old. - Yeah, he's got to be. I mean, he heard me something when I was a kid, you know, 50, 58. So yeah, but no, I wanted to take my wife. She said, no, I'm not interested. So my son said, hey, I'm game. So I'm taking my son to see them. And then of course, a week in a football, brother. - This video comes out at six o'clock on Friday night. At six 30, I am going to be at Winter Haven High School's football game against the Lakeland Dreadnought to watching Keon Young play football. - Oh, wow. - Yeah, that is my plan for Friday night because it's not often that an Ole Miss commit comes into my town.
