[music] You know what that means Dan? That's our song. That's our song. That's our theme song. I got it. I need to find who made that. Send him a thank you letter. It's just imagine the chills going through the audience right now. They hear the beat and hear the bass and they're like hey that's that's the Dan and Dalton theme song right there. The D&D/CFB theme song. The Dan and Dalton college football show and college football rolls on and so do we. Dan and again it's not just the 12 team playoff that's got me juiced up for the season but all the great games week in week out you barely have a down week and when you had what was considered a down week last week it actually wasn't down at all because we have a new member of the top 25 and their name is Northern Illinois. That's right the Huskies and their Super Bowl win over Notre Dame. Pretty much. In Indiana they went to uh went to Notre Dame and beat them. Was that bigger? Do you rank that upset? The NIU upset over our guy Riley Leonard and his Notre Dame fight in Irish. Is that bigger than the App State upset over Michigan years back? Well I don't know what Michigan was ranked that year. The App State was completely out of the blue. I don't think they ended up in the rankings. But did you see the emotional interview with the coach after the win? Yeah. Two minutes of basically crying on NBC but I mean it was beautiful to see and you just know how hard these teams work to be relevant and suddenly you beat Notre Dame on NBC at that South Bend. Yeah amazing and just a week ago you and I were talking about Notre Dame's win over Texas A&M and I think we went ahead and sent them an invitation to the 12th team playoff. Yeah and I was just going on what everybody was saying and then when you looked at their schedule the last thing you thought was the weekend they were going to slip up was that weekend against Northern Illinois but uh there was some and how about the way South Florida played Bama pretty tough. They did. I mean that game was one point with eight minutes to go maybe or something. So that was uh there was some good football. There was uh close games um you weren't talking about Auburn when you said there was some good football. Wow that was too bad. Nationally there was some good football. This is the Dan Dalton College football show and uh this is a podcast mainly first and foremost a podcast. So we have the uh if we wanted to we could cuss all over this thing but we're just nice nice nice grown men that don't do that and it's so we can hear this every Friday night at 8 p.m. so uh if you don't catch the podcast listen to it 8 p.m. on your way like me back home from some high school football last week I was able to tune in and uh college pick them this week. You're you're in the mix Dan or should I say junkyard. Yeah junkyard's in the mix because I was six and four week once I think one better than that. Seven and three week two. Seven and three for you this last week which means you are now uh tied for fifty second along with well quite a few other people. There's 500 in some uh participants. 511 uh Sergeant Clyde Frog who may I remind you was our week one clubhouse leader. He went 10 and 0 after that first week of games. He had the same week as you seven and three so he's still sitting in first place 17 and three. Our best entrant of the week was TMac who went nine and one working himself into uh the mix there. He's now 14 and six for the year sitting behind. A couple other people in Sergeant Clyde Frog long season so plenty of time to get your picks on the straight and narrow. Maybe too late for my children who doing their cutest mascot picking. This is not working. Had a terrible week. They went two and eight so I sat him down at the coffee table last night. I said listen I know that you're trying your best right now um but whatever you're trying didn't work and so maybe maybe fine and I didn't realize until we started doing this cutest mascot yeah five and three year old. Sure. A lot of those mascots out there are absolutely terrifying uh I mean the game they like they like to be scared. They do but they like like scary movies and all that. They love all of that but the South Carolina Gamecock they're like what is this dude's problem? Like who made him? Yeah and then several others as well and then built in bias for them uh for uh the Alabama mascot Obie and of course South Paul so they're going Auburn Alabama and South every time just because they've seen them around and about those mascots. And speaking of bias I noticed something about the AP top 25 this week. There's definitely a bias towards certain certain teams and I would say definitely a bias against teams who've already lost but are in the top 25. Now think about that. You mean they're saving face and keeping them ranked when they maybe shouldn't be? Well um I'm saying that they probably were ranked pretty high to start with and a loss did not knock them all the way out. Yeah so there's four teams with a loss that are in the top 25. Do you want to give it a shot? Well you have Notre Dame. Notre Dame is at number 18. You have LSU. LSU is number 16. Um also well we know Auburn isn't ranked. Um Notre Dame LSU is A&M back in the mix. They are not they have votes but no they're not in. Who are the other two? I'm sure I'm missing easy. Well one you you would have you should have recalled because they just lost last week. NC State? No. Okay. It was Michigan. Oh of course. Yeah. Michigan got beat their brains beat out. Yeah after. I mean seriously they were there was brain matter at the 25 yard line. Yeah. They were beaten badly by Texas. Texas and then at so they're they're sitting right now at number 17. Number 22 was Clemson. Oh. Came back and beat up state after again brain matter found at the 36 from their loss to Georgia a couple of weeks ago. I do not think Clemson is one of the 25 best teams in the nation. I would say that. Yeah. That's fair. I don't think so. And how's how about Tennessee? Let's talk about them. Let's talk about them. I'm excited because you know the main my main goal for the Vols this year. Yeah. I've been thinking about it all summer. Every workout I do every sprint I run which hasn't been many. I'm thinking about those Georgia Bulldogs and honestly all I want and it used to be I want Tennessee to give Bama a game and that is still the case except I want Tennessee to beat Bama this year. Got it. I just want to see him play Georgia tight. Like have me final three minutes of the game. I'm wondering if we have a chance. Yeah. And that has not been the case. No. And and as much as you have blown everybody else out it seems Georgia it's the opposite and I don't and we correspond during the that game. You're always so nervous. I'm nervous. And I'm like dude it was over 20 minutes ago. But Tennessee's got such a such an opportunity to strike at any time and so that always keeps me nervous. But in the end Georgia's curbies of defense have shut them down. Yeah. The surprising thing to me about Tennessee this year. I knew the D line had a chance to be really good. I didn't think they would be as dominant as they were against NC State the other nine outs. I'll say this. This is what the mistake people make early in the season. Talk about this all the time. You react to a win. And then you find out later they ain't crap or they're overrated or whatever. So you may find it like Clemson. Now Georgia put the locks on Clemson. I would assume Clemson's offense is not that good. But how about up during the year you start to see well they're scoring 40 on other people. Or or the opposite. Well yeah the opposite Clemson may not be that good. NC State didn't have a great week one win. I think they had a pretty tight win. I can't remember exactly who they were playing for me. And I know everyone's raving about Nico Iam Ali Ava. You've been sending me videos of guys talking about how good of a quarterback he is. I was surprised after that interception he threw over the middle of the field. Hype will really seem to take his foot off the pedal as far as Nico is concerned. He brought the dog back in the house right. He did. But I don't know if that's maybe showing Hype was more possibly worried about Nico and his accuracy than the rest of the country is right now. Well that's his that's his project. That's the best that's the most high profile project that guys maybe we'll have in his life. So he has Nico a quarterback. He's the quarterback guru kind of right. They're offenses quarterback friendly. He's got to coach him a certain way and he's got to coach him where he doesn't ruin him. He's got to coach him where the kid doesn't get too full of himself where he's throwing picks. Right. That pick was not going to cost you against NC State but that pick will cost you against Alabama and against Georgia. So those are the things the coach is thinking about during a game like NC State where you're thinking let the kid throw it. No because I see something that I'm not comfortable with. That'd be my guess. Yeah I think so and while we're talking about these close games I think the best thing that could have happened for Alabama was what happened this weekend. If you're a Bama fan you're wanting to see divorce exceed of course they needed a close call I think and for the close call to end up being 42 to 16 or whatever the final ended up being. I think most people will take that but it's a lot better to have a close call that you end up winning by 20 something points than to go ahead and lose. Well it's when you score think about this they scored like three touchdowns in the last eight minutes I think. Eight minutes six minutes some like that. Yeah. All right so if that tells you Alabama is a very explosive offense right but you can look at it one way and say man they were lucky to get out of their life. If you score those three touchdowns in the first quarter everyone's talking about how explosive you are. No one's really talking about that and I think they're missing the point on Alabama that yeah there was a close call but those those plays count too right those plays at the end of the game that's part of the game too and they piled up all those points. Yeah and I think Ryan Williams his most impressive touchdown yet a little comeback route and then use the speed to burn everyone to the end zone I think he broke maybe one or two tackles on that sideline along the way. He might be in the mix I mean forget whatever rookie awards if he has if he keeps this rolling touchdowns in the yards he's getting we could be talking Heisman contender status in the next couple of years. Well in the next couple of years probably show all American first team all American maybe this year you know that seems like a stretch but of course it's early. It's early but I watched him for two other years at the high school level and I would come in on Mondays and I would just kind of say I don't know how to explain this guy except nobody can stop. Yeah and no corner can stay in front of him and can stay with him when he goes deep and I was surprised to find out he does not have like the blazing the fastest of 40 times but it's I guess it's just that he's always in and out of breaks he's quick and he's yeah you know he's got whatever it takes to make people look bad. He has great vision. Great field vision once he has the ball and before we go to the break we'll come back in our conversation with Jack Gilmore. Yeah Jack's good guy. He's the director of football operations for the senior bowl played at St. Paul's walked on at Alabama actually scouted for the Raiders. He's been around quite a bit in his youth you know he hasn't been along around the game as long decades like some of these others. He's still young. I will talk with him about what he saw this weekend but we have to talk about Auburn and honestly I I root for Auburn to be good right. I've always had a when it comes between Alabama and Auburn I'm a Tennessee fan but I like Auburn to be good. I just feel so bad for my Auburn friends. It's almost like they're despondent. They're ready for basketball and it's all I don't know if it's Hugh Freeza's fault or Peyton Thorne but that was just pitiful on Saturday. Yeah and I didn't watch much of it because I was watching the Georgia game and then when I went back and that was on ESPN plus you know so it was kind of a hassle getting back to regular TV. I can go back and forth you know but it was that was sad but there was several years ago where Auburn started the season so poorly this might have been I mean like 2017 or something like that. So way back when and and by the end of the year they were they were looking great so it's it can happen it does the seasons are longer than ever before. I mean you just have all and of course if you win if you get in the top 12. It goes on until the next season begins this year. It's just about but just just always know that teams can get better during the season. You know you look back just even a couple weeks in like this and you start thinking about what coaches said before the season and I keep coming back to when Hugh Freeza was on with Paul Finebaum and he's Paul Finebaum's talking about how great they've been recruiting and looks like you might have an offense this year and Hugh Free said yeah I think you need to give me give me three or four years in the program. And now it's like oh he kind of knew that this might happen this year. Yeah I guess he did and recruiting is one thing but you can't you can't win with a bunch of freshmen you just can't. Freshmen can be good or freshmen can help you in certain situations and freshmen can help you supplement your really good athletes can be on your special teams and make your special teams better. They're like a bonus. They're a bonus. They're a bonus and they they can be a helpful bonus like I say on special teams and things like that but to depend on them to win week in week out in your lineup. Too many freshmen that's not that's not the way to go so let them become sophomores let them become you know red shirt freshmen whatever and maybe you'll start to see more production out of them. Well we were saying like everyone else Auburn has to take care of businesses first five week home stretch because they hit the road for the second half of the schedule and I don't think cow was on any of our worry list. It was Arkansas and Oklahoma that I thought might be the problem. Now quite a mountain to climb for Hugh Fries and the Auburn Tigers. Coming back we'll talk with Jack Gilmore. He is like I said earlier the DFO director DOF director of football operations senior ball. He's a Dofo. He's a Dofo. That's right. Hey Jack you're Dofo. That sounds so mean. Later on in our show our conversation Paul Finebaum and we'll preview this week's games. That's all on the way on the DND CFB show. Special guests are going to join us here in just a moment as we start talking senior ball it's number two early to start doing that and it's we had some pretty amazing football games over the weekend that I'm sure that our guests was checking out looking for some prospects. Yeah of course we had a lot of close calls for some top 25 ranked teams only one major upset in the top 25 of course that came after Notre Dame beat A&M and week one he thought oh things are rolling for Riley Leonard and the Irish and then Northern Illinois comes in and absolutely shocks the country and then on a more personal note for many of us I don't think folks expected Auburn to lose to Cal even after that close game last year but the California Golden Bears come to Jordan Heron and end up beating Hugh Fries here in the second week of year two for free so some big upsets and some good games as well and yeah it's a pleasure to talk with Jack Gilmore the senior ball director of football operations. Good morning Jack. Good morning Dalton. Hey Jack good good to see again I know we last time we ran into each other was a while back it was a senior ball event I think at that point you had you maybe were you played linebacker at St. Paul's I remember that well and then you ended up you got a job with the with the Raiders in the scouting department that was your first foray into the NFL right. That's right yeah the college scouting coordinator for the Raiders the last 40 years I started on Gruden's Gruden's first year and was there for four years and then came back home last year to help out with the senior ball. That's awesome so after St. Paul's take people kind of through before you got to the NFL scouting and after St. Paul's you were at Bama as a walk on and you were you were on the team for a while there is that where would you say it's St. Paul's or at Bama where you're interested in scouting and the the behind the scenes stuff with these football teams kind of came into focus. Yeah I think it was even before St. Paul's I think I knew at a really young age that I love sports and I didn't know exactly what avenue I was going to take in sports but I knew I wanted to be around team and competition and so yeah once I graduated St. Paul's I walked on to the Alabama football team and I got to be part of some really good football teams there played and then transitioned into a coaching and scouting role for the last three years while I was there and I guess that was the first opportunity I had it really sinking my teeth into the evaluation and recruiting element of the game and really really enjoyed it. It must have been an amazing imprint that Coach Saban had on you who had the field named after Mon Saturday by the way pretty amazing honor but I'm sure if you've gone into football now into administration and scouting and things like that that his impression on you has got to be large. Absolutely Dan I mean such an honor to get to you know absorb all the other things going on in that building I mean not only Coach Saban but we had a loaded coaching staff and support staff I mean Coach Cochran was an awesome influence Kirby Smart was my position coach just a lot of really good people in that building to learn from. I get you're not surprised by Kirby Smart's success at Georgia because he was kind of he was kind of built to be on his own and do and fly on his own right? Not one bit surprise that guy's an awesome coach awesome awesome person and a really good evaluator good recruiter so not surprised at all. You know and we'll get into the games from this weekend and what you had your eye on this week but I did want to get your take on Nick Saban now being a well prognosticator I guess you could say he's talking a lot more being on college game day is it weird seeing him in that light after so many years as being the coach and certain responses he may have about certain things were awfully buttoned up or made to sound a certain way now that he can kind of let loose is it almost like a different guy? It's awesome to be able to see him just still involved around the game I'm just so happy to be able to you know watch him and still be able to learn from him it's really cool to see him on the game day set and everyone's just kind of learning more about the game I think it's great for everyone to be able to you know him and talk about you know his his point of view on a lot of these topics I think it's great yeah I mean when he says something this is what I love about it when he says something you know these guys are all blah blah blah like our show but then when he says something you're like wait a minute I know you can take that to the bank right Jack? I agree yeah he'll he'll he'll he says something if he really has something to say right so let's talk about football so far this year we've got most teams two games into the season now we talked about that big upset from Notre Dame you know senior bowl being down here in Mobile is perfect because I mean the SEC is such a hotbed for recruiting you look at the top 25 this week and I think six of the top seven or maybe seven of the top eight teams are SEC yeah especially now with Texas and Oklahoma and who caught your eye who were you tasked with watching this weekend as far as the college football games are concerned yeah I think the Texas football team had the most impressive win over the weekend I mean I don't know how good the Michigan team is this year they lost a lot of really good pieces from last year they had the most draft pick selected last year so they've they've got holes to fill but still a really impressive win for Texas to go into Michigan and put it on the Wolverines they're a they're a legit team they're their defense is you know built like an SEC team they're big bodies physical team and then coin yours he is a really really good player he uh he doesn't have the prototypical like size that you'd want the NFL he's probably like six one two out five he's kind of built like Bryce Young out of Alabama a couple of years but aside from that this guy's really good at the quarterback position he can throw make all the throws he's you know athletic enough to extend plays he makes really good decisions I think he and Steve Sarkees are going to do really well this year yeah you know Jack what really caught my with Quinn this week and he's done it before but against Michigan in Ann Arbor his pocket movement and like you said his his being able to escape but he doesn't really sometimes he escapes without escaping the pocket he'll step up he'll keep a play alive with his eyes down field you saw that with the tight end that came open kind of in the middle of the field there on that one touchdown he to me and there's a lot of decent to good quarterbacks out there right now Quinn yours looks to me to be the most pro ready would you agree with that I would not disagree with that at all I think Carson Beck's really good as well Shader Sanders at Colorado is a really good player but not Quinn Quinn is very good I think Steve Sarkeesian's been a big part of his career yeah a lot of people talking about Sarkeesian the way he calls up at the he designs his plays and that he's kind of a step ahead of a lot of folks and if that's the case Texas is definitely gonna be tough to handle because they look really good against Michigan real quick before we get off Michigan was there anything to the kind of stallions thing that when you saw it on Netflix anything that surprised you and do you think that Michigan I'm not trying to be I'm not trying to pick out the scab here but do you think that they missed what he did at all this year no I'm not buying into that I think Texas is just a better football team sure this past weekend and Michigan was a very good team last year as well I don't think that they won football games just because they were still in sign sure I think they were there they were a good team yeah I just just had to ask yeah and everyone talks about you know the the sign stealing allegations but they lost Harbaugh and he was a really really good coach so like yesterday he won against the Raiders he won like touchdown and a half of him like that over over over the Raiders so yeah he's often winning in the NFL well we've talked some about Kirby Smart and of course his quarterback Carson Beck and Georgia again taking care of business this past week I'm wondering from a scouting standpoint it's one thing when you're watching a guy who you're scouting who's playing other potential pros but when you're scouting a team like Georgia and they're playing Tennessee Tech what are you wanting to see from these pro ready guys in the games where they're expected to absolutely dominate are you looking for form or what's the main thing you got your eye on that's a really good question doll and that's the hard part about college scouting is it's not a level playing field so each game I mean you're you're still looking for the same things you're still making sure that they have the tools to to translate into the NFL and but you're taking you know the level of competition into account for sure they'll be you know I'll pull peek at you know the low level games but we really want to see how Carson Beck plays against you know this Texas defense here in a couple weeks and some other you know bigger competition games later in the fall would you take away from that Alabama game because that team gave them fits and the game puts a year ago and physically they were pretty darn good along the line of scrimmage I know Alabama's got some injuries you know I get it but you recruit to replace kids like that and they were they were losing battles on the line of scrimmage which you rarely see against with Alabama especially against an opponent like that Dan you took the words out of my mouth I think we should give South Florida a lot of credit I mean this there had coach coach goal is he's a name to you know putting them back your head for you know down the road for you know big coaching jobs this guy has his team ready to play we need to stop scheduling South Florida there's step number one yeah I mean like you said Dan I mean there was a lot of plays where South Florida you know matched or looked better than Alabama in terms of being more physical and finishing blocks and tackling and I'm not ready to hit the panic button on Alabama yet and those kind of the same thing last year when we played South Florida you know we were allowed to get better and we did that last year and I think we can do that again this year but a lot of credit to coach goalish in South Florida just coming out and not being afraid of Alabama and maybe the first real test of the Bama season coming up with Wisconsin this week we'll see how that shakes out I wanted to ask you about Ole Miss and it seems every year when we come into the season I'll watch out for Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels they have the best offense they've had they're looking good on defense and then they you know they'll blow somebody out the first couple weeks like we've seen this year but does this Ole Miss team who I think has ranked fifth now I think they have what it takes to compete with the big boys in the SEC this year I do I do I think this is a good year for Ole Miss they've got a lot of really talented players credit coach Kiffin and their their scouting department for bringing in a lot of keep pieces in the transfer portal I think it's been no secret that they've added some really good pieces in the transfer portal and yes I think they're a little bit sick and tender this year Jack on the short list of SEC senior or senior ball eligible players let's say that you would like to see at at the senior ball can you just give us a few names of guys you're looking at that you would really be pleased if they accepted an invitation yeah absolutely I mean hey to keep bringing his name up but Quinn yours at Texas would be awesome Carson Beck at Georgia quarterback and then you know Auburn Alabama wise Auburn's got a lot of really talented players I know they lost Kyle this week but they've got a defensive back Kiante sky is a really good player you've got to go on the line of scrimmage they can rush quarterback and McLeod and then a couple linebackers of Sante and Ki so they've got pieces on defense and then on the offense side of the ball Jork was hunter I'm in a really productive running back for them throughout his career and they've added a couple of wide receiver pieces to the transfer portal Robert Lewis and Lambert Smith out of Penn State so Auburn's got some players and then Alabama obviously Jalen millroads would be a huge gift for us down here in Mobile and then Mobile Native Kiante Lawson at linebacker is a huge name for us so no I throw a lot of names out at you there but no no yeah that's like you they have a disagree with what you said earlier I don't think it's ever too early to talk about the senior ball you're right you're right that was that was my bad and it's you know it I love the fact that when I talked to Jackie history he was watching four games simultaneously yeah four pro games and which is not that's just that was almost just for pleasure huh oh yeah absolutely I love watching the pro games and we see you know the guys that Dan's calling on Friday nights utv 44 we see them go into college and make names for themselves but then so many of these dudes who go to the senior bowl the next year in the NFL they're absolutely lighting it up it's almost like that uh you don't have to wait so long for them to develop anymore because they're expected to come in the NFL and start kicking butt and it's often guys who are kicking butt at the senior bowl just months prior absolutely absolutely is the future of the NFL is in Mobile you know at the end of January and we had 110 draft picks selected last year yeah I mean these uh these head coaches and general managers are trying to get these young guys on the field early you know take advantage of these rookie contracts yeah and get their team better right away right so they can save their job and many yeah absolutely hey Jack thanks for your time this morning it's really been a pleasure it's always a pleasure catching up with you and running into you and uh proud of you as a player and as a guy and uh and also as an executive now with the senior bowl congratulations for all your success yeah Dan thank thank you guys for having you all and appreciate it um always good to talk to you as well all right Jack Gilmore and uh by the way tickets on sale now for the senior bowl February 1st you can go to seniorball.com and buy those tickets today. It's time for football Friday with Paul Pinebaum presented by Bryant Bank your hometown bank with big bank benefits located in Mobile and Baldwin counties now here's Dan Brennan and Deltanorwig and now here's Paul Finebaum uh Paul Finebaum show of course two to six weekdays on FM Talk 10065 yeah and a pleasure to have you on once again Paul our favorite time of the week is talking football with you thanks for coming on with us again uh always some pleasure guys can't believe the season going over oh actually it's the third week yeah I guess after this week uh there'll be a fourth of the season will be in the books we can look over things and see if they're as we expected um looking back last weekend uh pretty good weekend you know the Texas Michigan thing I don't know if that was unexpected Paul or if that's about the way you saw it. I expected Texas to win I mean they were you know four or five points favorite what I didn't expect was Michigan to look like Auburn I mean like an average team or below average team uh it was it was really shocking to see them uh just uh you get get rolled over I'm considering the very last time I've seen Michigan I was on the sidelines up to uh Rose Bowl as you all remember it's not the same team not the same coach but one thing uh we learned that Texas is not going through freshman orientation of the SEC uh they're letting themselves be known that they are around and everybody else get out of the way yeah yeah a lot of folks are saying it'll be Texas George at the end of the year but we know how predictions this early in the season usually turn out let's talk about these in state schools for us here in Alabama and we'll get to Auburn here in a moment but Bama they didn't have a breeze through against south Florida themselves uh wasn't as bad as last year showing and that fourth quarter sure helped them out a lot but uh they did have some issues there those first three quarters yeah again I don't want to sound like a technician because I'm really not but when your left tackle is out uh and you start moving people around uh problems usually occur and that's exactly what happened then it uh it was very reminiscent of a year ago and I know a lot of folks are in meltdown mode primarily but it's Alabama City cover but I am not overly worried uh I feel like Alabama is still a very good team and you saw how quickly uh how explosive they were in the fourth quarter so ultimately uh yeah I think they'll prevail this week and this is just sounds like a really big game I don't think it is Wisconsin is a middle middle of the pack SEC team at best and I'll be I'll be surprised that Alabama doesn't go up there and win yeah I get the impression yeah I get the impression Wisconsin you know it's a daunting place to play they've got uh you know the crowd they're jumping around and all that I know that they support their team big time up there but I don't know that they've got uh the pieces here and like in preseason no one was worried about Wisconsin no I don't think they really should be uh I mean this is a pretty fortunate uh matchup for Alabama instead of playing uh uh a team that's willing that's that's arrived and this this program is is good not great and now uh that's what I think you know I I am wrong on a very regular basis let me make nobody point that out to the audience well I guess we could there's one example from last week yeah and uh I mean Kiffin what is his deal he just shouldn't he be coaching Paul I mean the slightest thing and he's ready to throw something back in your face but uh he was talking about Auburn and I don't think really anyone saw Auburn losing certainly in the fashion that they did Saturday to uh uh when they lost a cow uh four thrown interceptions from Peyton Thorne five turnovers from uh Hugh Freeze's offense and on Tiger Talk this week he basically said he thinks they called one bad play so more or less kind of thrown it on the players but this was supposed to be a new and improved Auburn offense Paul yeah what what what what happened was a caller uh Ashley on Friday hey I think California's gonna win I said no they're not that's a Auburn will win book it um somebody tweeted it and it's amazing uh that Lane Kiffin has time to find every tweet about me there there is he does and uh and he put it out there and said what is what is what is what is uh what is uh fun but I'm good at that's a thing that he's gone for a while and what what's scary here is that he got about three million views um so that will make the 17 year old Lane Kiffin want to uh continue uh tweeting about me what what I what I think the medium this year if I can be a critic for a second yeah he was really taking your shot at Auburn and nobody caught that um here's a guy that wanted the Auburn job and pretty much uh it almost accepted it uh two years ago and everybody's saying oh Kiffin trolls fine bomb well as he did but what about he frees he lost the game yeah he he did I think they should that Vegas should start putting odds on which school Kiffin will pretend to leave Ole Miss for uh following the season I mean that's a yearly occurrence yeah and I'm sure if he's yeah yeah listen uh in fairness to Kiffin I'll give you a little behind the firm uh he did he was out of the alibi he sent me a text before it put out the tweet and he said uh he actually quoted another coach head coach in the SEC to hey he sent this to me and as if Kiffin didn't have time to find it on his own and then we tweeted but uh you know I I think it's funny uh I mean the media thinks that there's just some big feud but he also sent me this uh on Tuesday night right before the debate somebody said they forget uh Harris and Trump can you imagine a debate the ratings for debates and I bet between Kiffin and fine bomb so uh I mean he really is having fun with it and at some point this season please remind me of if Ole Miss has a legitimate opponent yeah and uh so that's why I can't have fun with exactly I expect tastes for them uh you know who's not having fun and that are the is the war eagle fans I you know I think it was actually foreboding looking back Hugh freezes interview with you just before the season began where you were talking about their success on the recruiting trail and all that and he said well you know give us three four years let's get this whole class and maybe he knew that the uh that the team wasn't quite up to par and we saw that against Cal yeah I mean I don't know about up to par I mean you can't lose the Cal not with the schedule that you have and to me that's really what what is so problematic for Hugh Freeze uh I mean he's he's he's he's still I mean I don't know where he is I mean I think he's losing support and uh he has to he just can't have another seven and five seasons or whatever last year I guess it was six and seven and that lost I mean that was an automatic win okay so uh now where do they go to find quality wins and and I don't think there's many options there's a rumor that after the game Peyton Thorm was playing with his dog and he threw him a frisbee and the frisbee went right in front of an oncoming bus and that was a close call but by the way you guys I didn't mean to bury the lead but the but the best part of the week was Hugh Freeze strolling his entire team under the bus how about that you know we didn't we didn't call bad play if you guys suck that's really what you said yeah he sure did and uh on tiger talk in front of the uh whole war eagle nation there I'm starting to think they might be having regrets about Hugh Freeze but like he said give him another two three four years like he said yeah I mean let him let him take his time no big deal when he's uh no rush uh I mean he's making eight ten million a year and as long as while he's getting uh becoming a multi-millionaire Auburn fans are suffering uh by the way Auburn paid Brian Harson 20 million dollars to leave for this they did yeah uh and Harson I think even took a shot this week he did Hugh Freeze so all kinds of drama around the Auburn program not many wins to come by lately how about Tennessee everyone's talking about Nico and the offense but for me the story of of Saturday was that D-line I mean the Vols have a defense I think folks are worried about it yeah they really look good um and yeah there's been a few people that thought Tennessee has been on the outside of the playoff and I think now they're inside the playoff they they uh they have another one of these off-brand games Saturday night and then next week they go to Oklahoma and then we'll start to find out uh are they legitimate or not yeah I think they're at least as legit as Oklahoma it's tough to well you know they're probably more legit than Oklahoma yeah yeah okay Oklahoma's looking like a good big 12 team right now they are and so it's it's you know tough to go ahead and put your stamp on a team early in the season things change people get hurt kids develop whatever but right now Tennessee looks really really really strong Georgia does too for their limited time on the field this year how about the they help Clemson to three and then Clemson got 66 the next week against App State so I think that defense for Georgia is pretty legit Paul yeah yeah they're just I mean at some point Georgia will have a yeah actually I just I answered my own question I was about so if I'll have a real game that would be in two weeks so uh when they make the track over uh uh through Alabama so ultimately we're we're we're gonna find out a lot Georgia schedule uh coming up uh you have Alabama they have practice uh they have all myths uh no more mysteries after those those three they man oh well Oklahoma too and Tennessee yeah yeah they got everybody everybody has everybody seems this year but Kentucky we thought might be a good team this year and thought maybe uh some competition for Georgia I guess we'll find out this weekend but I was absolutely shocked that South Carolina who barely escaped Old Dominion put it to the Wildcats last weekend in Kentucky that was that was just beyond comprehension I was up in Lexington as you guys know and uh all I heard is how great that program is and then I watched the game and thought uh that program's really bad I mean they're they were I mean it's so bad that uh they had college game day coming there for the Georgia game it was all about it uh you know it was all these uh you know moves being made and they they lose the game and then they lose game day to South Carolina and Iraq team yep that's just slapping the old face and I think stoops and smart are good enough boys that I don't think that if smart can I think the wrestling some people for the Alabama game that have been dinged up I would uh I would play my third team against him I don't think they're going that far but he may go easy on him yeah by the way uh they're uh they're back up quarterback is now the starter that's been made has that that's a done deal well well he's he's there now I mean he's like bandergriff oh they're back yeah I thought they already got back up from last year I should write I thought you that they'd already yanked bandergriff okay yeah Kentucky would like to trade him back A&M at Florida and uh that's where uh SEC that's where you'll be this weekend Florida have a lot to prove Napier especially but uh A&M does as well as they they start the tenure of Mike Elko here week three for them what do you see in this game with A&M heading to Gainesville yeah I mean I a slightly favorite Florida uh you're gonna say well why and I'm gonna say I have no idea um the question is who who will be the Florida quarterback uh drama or two who looked pretty good uh last year he's a transfer over from other league Wisconsin that's right well yeah one of those uh he uh he had a concussion and DJ Legway was probably a number one quarterback in the country last year coming out of high school and they they really like him he looked good against Samford uh but but Dalton you might look good against Samford so I don't know if uh that's what he's saying anything yeah uh you know Missouri really under-discussed I mean they're sixth in the nation right now and they have a top 25 game here this week against Boston College but still no one's talking about Missouri that's your old palo bill o'Brien Paul yeah uh it's impossible to be a better head coach than offensive coordinator maybe terrible at Alabama but uh he's pretty good head coach uh you think Missouri has the chops to I mean 12 team playoff is one thing but are they talking about top four by the end of the year in Missouri or not I mean they they really believe they're a playoff team I'm not so sure they remember that Cody Schroeder last year the guy that nobody had ever heard of they did everything for them yeah I think they're I think they're going to miss him and ultimately I mean they're they're a good program but uh they go to Alabama they they I think they have I mean I don't know their schedule but I mean they they have they have a lot of uh you know really tough game so I think they're 10 and 2 9 3 somewhere in there I don't know they'll get by this weekend though Paul will get LSU at South Carolina let's wrap it up with that and uh the unlikely game destination that just kind of happened when South Carolina beat Kentucky yes right yeah yeah I mean listen I was just joking about that the other day in a lot of headline you'll find bomb blast game day decision I really don't care where game day goes but it just seemed like they could have done better than then LSU uh at South Carolina um and but it's just weird I mean I don't know I mean that game days gone to some uh HBCU they've gone to James Madison but I don't know if they've ever gone to it to an unranked SEC game uh where home game the home team was unranked I mean this is very strange yeah with an off-campus stadium too so it's yeah it's like an exactly yeah I mean yeah anybody's ever been there uh especially during the state care where you get some cotton candy on the way in there's not even a hint of higher education no it is uh it's truly uh I mean the campus is okay the stadium is uh it was state turnaround miles away yeah oh well paul another great week of the paul fine bomb show only two times only two times your show makes my head hurt uh talking coaching buyouts and the math around that and then now the 12 team play off and trying to figure out how all that works uh led to some great radio with callers trying to figure out the math involved there but we appreciate you coming on with us again for a football fridays always a pleasure guys see you soon thank you paul so much paul fine bomb and football Fridays with fine bomb is brought to you by pryant bank that's right more of our show mobile mornings on the way after this two five one three four three zero one zero six i want to thank paul fine bomb again for joining us and uh we'll be back right after this gndcfb is brought to you by brought to you by brought to you by uh nobody that's why we're interested that's why we can't get a pizza delivered yeah brought to you by anybody it's brought to you by uh winning picks which you and i we're on the winning side right now in college pick them for now we both have above 500 uh picking uh i think you've had six losses so far this year six and four and seven and three so seven losses i've had nine or ten now i've had nine losses so i'm sitting just above above 500 i do want to put out a quick disclaimer and um uh great discussion there with paul fine bomb in that past segment and uh man he's at war with everyone i mean he's not a week set yeah no he he likes that he likes mixing it up and as as he told us then kind of behind the scenes he and kiffen are just kind of goofing off a little bit so yeah um but uh i've gotten some emails and texts this year regarding pick them not as many as last year but people will pick like alabama this last week against south forda they say hey what's the deal i picked bama they won why is it red on my screen or picking against the point spread and that point spread a lot of y'all know that uh a majority of folks know we're picking against the point spread um and i won't go through how the point spread works it's something you can quickly google now that i think 80 percent of america put game put money on games on saturday and sunday now maybe not quite that many but yeah against the point spread just keep that in mind as we take a look at this week's games that are on our fm talk college pick them it'll be played saturday and uh started off with the major surprise to so many people last week with south carolina blowing out kentucky they get college game day this weekend they get it all it's uh top of the world for beamer this week and uh he has brian kelly waiting to completely ruin all that as lsu comes to south carolina the tigers according to our pick them favored by six and a half couple of guys it can be really grumpy in the post game by the way when he loses he's fit to be tied full so is brian kelly who um regularly breaks tables yeah and punches water bottles or whatever he did right right uh so yeah so i'm going with lsu there same here yeah what how much are they favored by six and a half okay just under a touchdown yeah i think south carolina i think a lot of people put a lot of stock into that blow out wind over kentucky and then being at home this weekend and i think maybe some wind out of their sales with lsu coming i think nussmyer more he settles in the better he's going to look well lsu's got one of the best offensive lines in football they claim and that was the issue with kentucky so lsu wins and oh south carolina has a freshman edge rusher that is unreal i know so that'll be a good match up to watch this weekend right uh alabama trying to get the taste of south florida the first three quarters anyway out of their mouth then um heading to big ten country at wisconsin and bama favored by fifteen and a half points yeah it seems like it's a big game it seems like it's a daunting game because you're on the road to a big ten team a place that sells out there stadium and all but i just don't get the impression from anybody up in big ten country that wisconsin is all that threatening so i'm going to go with alabama including that spread so alabama they get a they get a week off next week right yeah so and then jane georgia both have the week off next week okay so maybe not eyes on the prize yet for bam i was wondering if they may be overlooking wisconsin getting ready for georgia they get the week off right now i have wisconsin and maybe i changed that just before the game fifteen and a half points home there's always the chance that the bore really isn't always cracked up to be here maybe i'm just holding on to that hope i well uh you know it's it's wait and see he's done it he's done it everywhere he's been uh but this is this is just a new level of intensity and a new level of pressure for sure uh just maybe two years ago i would have been able to tell you everything about every game but i'm trying to take my father lee duties more seriously and of course my duties on the radio you know that comes first and foremost so i really don't know much at all about washington state in washington this year by the way i just we received a text from your wife the kids are on the roof right now uh so i i'm in the blind as well with washington and washington state game that's normally played at the end of the year they're no longer in the same conference how about that yeah weird but i'm gonna go with washington plus the well washington covers covers the four and a half and whenever i see a school playing a school in their state and it's a rivalry game and uh one team's favored by more than a field goal i take the underdog generally so i took washington state plus the four and a half all right texas a and m is the favorite even though they're a way team playing in gainsville against florida aggy's favored by four and a half dad of that go gators whoo wow go gators in this one you and pauler on the same side uh huh yep that's something else i mean wakeman well he didn't look that good against Notre Dame i mean he just and if you quarterback is not playing well yeah you're probably not gonna play well but Notre Dame is great you saw what happened in oh exactly the bad loss yeah i took the aggies i like seeing uh everyone pile on napier and i want to see more of it okay and keep it coming it's not gonna last much longer another two teams i really don't know enough about and i know this is a college football show where we are the experts yeah in this case it's not the case again unsponsored and now we know west virginia's favored by two and a half over pit and uh the mountain ears are the away team here in this game yes pits at home pit also knocked off Cincinnati that's a good program last week so i'm gonna go with pittsburgh you know two more sentences than i do about this game yeah and that's all i took west virginia uh i don't know maybe because of neil browns days at troy for the last four years i've been depending on him becoming a good coach never happens well they kind of build a big one pen stay came into town yeah who was it mackephie was there and everything mackephie of course played at west virginia back in i've heard that i think i've heard him say that yeah probably i took west virginia we're on the opposite side so something's changing between us this week uh oklahoma at home again uh their first sec game coming up next week by the way has tennessee goes to oklahoma but that's next week this week they're home against two lane and uh the sooner is favored by 13 and a half over the green wave got the green wave covering maybe not winning but uh covering uh that'd be my guess i do too i need to take into account maybe uh that storm that hit new orleans i don't know if that's going to affect this at all in any way but yeah right now i have two lane as well covering the 13 and a half noter dame trying to bounce back if they can they're away at perdue but the fight and irish irish favored by 10 and a half the perdue fighting rip-offs did you see what they did to that poor kid that kicked a 20 30 and 40 yard field goal at halftime last week a promotion with a car dealership yeah and then they said they didn't he didn't quite do it in time yeah i mean that is a pile of garbage yeah the so perdue in this car dealership i'm sure they thought no kid no no kid is going to come out here and kick a 20 30 and 40 yard field goal amazing it was at two minutes i don't know what it was he does it they had their insurance company and reviewed the footage and this isn't like it's a game clock that comes down to the they said uh it he kicked the last one uh by five one hundredths of a second over the timeline that is it was just a two-year lease they were giving away on like some new ev yeah and uh it would have cost fifteen thousand dollars of that dealership that dealership is backing out and or did it at uh for this case publishing time but now other dealerships are saying hey we'll do that right yeah they see this opportunity yeah so the kid's gonna get a lease anyway yeah uh that's to the game that's why i'm picking against perdue and and i am too i think the irish they can still make the playoff i think yeah they can i mean it's lost niu which is now a ranked team but uh we need riley lender to bounce back here by the way the niu quarterback much better than wakeman at texas saying him just for the record all right uh troy is the away team troy trojans and playing a team that has a broken heart i was at home uh the hawkeye's 22 and a half point favorites on run your pool sure things have changed in the betting markets um i took troy i did too and i took them because anytime you lose any time i will lose this to iowa state on a field goal like they did i think they're gonna have some wounds that might show uh as they try to recover from that and troy might be a tough sort of team to bounce back with you know they might be looking down on troy they don't score a bunch of points anyway at iowa they just don't yeah to give them a 22 point cushion is a lot if troy's as good as they've been the last few years in the sun belt i'll go with troy are you do you think maybe an outright win is on the table for troy possibly no no i i'll call it here okay all right i'll call i like that i think troy's gonna upset i i like it and uh you can don't take that to the bank i applaud you uh georgia away at kentucky i thought this would be a bigger match up now we know the wild cats absolutely stink but the bulldogs are favored by 23 and a half 23 and a half and i'm going with kentucky really yep you're picking yes against your dogs yes and why the dogs will win because they're they're trying to get people better they're being very cautious with their roster and with some players with alabama on the way they want to they think they probably think they can get by by resting players and still beat kentucky be my guess they've got some injuries along the defensive line and i think they're going to be a little thin up there so kentucky might you know might have a play or two that that goes pretty well and i'm going with kentucky georgia will win kentucky will cover cover i take georgia i think 23 and a half sounds like it's a big spread and it kind of is but i don't see how kentucky scores i think all georgia needs is 24 28 points i mean they might win this 24 to 0 and cover their defense is really good i don't know if they're they're not quite what they were their record setting defense in 2021 i guess there was but they're really i think Dalton they're really good so keep that in mind georgia does not have to score a bunch of points to win games let's wrap it up with the last game Auburn one and one i lost no one saw coming favored by 28 and a half at home with new mexico coming to Auburn another west coast team got a and new mexico may be in shambles it was new mexico state that beat Auburn last year by the way for the record yeah so new mexico they're generally like the bigger brand in that state they're this they're the team with the better program but that's a lot of points for Auburn to give away yeah i just don't see that they can afford to give that many points away so i'm going with new mexico to at least cover yeah especially if they go to the backup you know uh maybe patent but do you trust patent thorn to score more than four touchdowns i know we saw it against Alabama a&m but that was Alabama a&m so you saw the picture of the guy that might get the start at Auburn and you said he looked like somebody that was a menace in his neighborhood yeah Hank Brown Hank Brown he looked to you you looked at him and read away you thought that's a bad kid right there yeah oh yeah he has he has the tussled hair i mean didn't even take the time to make himself look right for the picture yeah but i knew they were taking the picture but i love the name i mean Hank Brown sounds like a guy who's coming to kick your axe he could be it's a Hank Brown in any neighborhood in America you can find a Hank Brown yeah but i don't trust him to cover so i've got new mexico you said you took new mexico there as well yeah all right we're on the same side for at least a couple of these should be another great day of football on Saturday and we're looking forward to it just like so many of you are remember get those picks in before the games kick off tomorrow if you're playing fm talk college pick them and we'll be back for the Dan and Dalton college football show next week okay remember podcast comes out early catch that Friday morning and then this airs every Friday night 8 p.m on fm talk 1065 have a good one
