(upbeat music) Oh yes, Friday is here. Welcome in everybody, Ben in Woods, 97.3 The Fan. So, so happy to be here with you for you, whatever you need this morning. (upbeat music) I'm a little bit worse for wear. I'll just tell you right now. But you can't be mad at me, Paul. I'll explain it in a minute. Welcome in, thanks for being here. If you're listening on the radio, the app, the YouTube feed, you can see. I look like a bag of hammer-dass right now, a little bit. And I did not overindulge, I didn't think. But I'm here today, I'm Woodsy, and Paul Reindel is my our executive producer. Paulie, good morning to you. - Good morning. - Happy early birthday. - Thank you. - Thank you. - Thank you. - Thank you. - Big guy, 34 years old tomorrow. Your wife, Megan, is here hanging out with us. Hi, Meg, how are you? Say hello to everyone, if you wanna know why. - Hello, everyone. - Shout out SD. - Shout out SD. Do you wanna flash the audience? You can? You're on YouTube? - It's not as birthday yet. - That's true, all right, fair enough. I'll give you that. So, Dove Jay says, you do sound a little froggy. I am a little froggy. I had one half of a glass of wine, one half of a glass of wine. And I woke up this morning like this. (coughing) It was nice wine, it was fancy wine. It was, it was a delicious wine. I was actually surprised I cut myself off at a half a glass. But I woke up this morning at 3 a.m. And was like, bro, how late were we out? Got home at 8.30. And then my wife started hustling and bustling around the house, all the lights where I'm like, woman, I've got to sleep, I've got to get to bed. And then I couldn't fall asleep, you know? So I have so much work to do this morning. I have no idea what we're gonna talk about on the show today. I mean, I got some idea, but it's today's gonna be fast and loose as we do it in here on Ben & Woods this morning. And I wanna tell you guys all about the gala last night, the Lucky Duck Foundation gala. But I need to wait to do that because we need to pay off something that happened yesterday. We, Paulie and I put our heads together and we are immature. I'll give you that. And we like to have fun. And we often like to have fun at our partner, Ben's expense. And he's a really good sport about it. Oh man. But this one might have crossed a small line. I'm not sure yet. I don't really know how he's feeling about it, but I was able to coax from him where exactly he was staying on this golf excursion. - It wasn't even that hard. - It wasn't that hard. - Just go, God. - I said, I said, I go, where are you staying? He's like, I'm like, where? And he tells me like, okay. So I filed that away. I call Paulie later in the day and I go, all right, we gotta do something. What can we do? We gotta do something. We have to prank him somehow. 'Cause A, it's fun. B, it's funny. And C, it's all, you get punished when you go away. That's just what happens. I get punished when I go away. He gets punished when he goes away. That's just how it works. So Paulie, I'm gonna blame you. 'Cause actually this was Paulie's idea. - It was, it was his idea. - He told me where to find this. - I didn't tell you where to find it. I said, let me look on Amazon. We're on the phone and I just pulled out Amazon. - That's true. - This stuff is very easy to find. - And we had delivered to his hotel room. Before he checked in, we had a Amazon package there when he, we'll ask him how it all went down. But it was a, - It was a receptacle. - Oh God, that's the worst word for it that you could have possibly, possibly come up with. The number one worst word in the world. - Well, he got a better one, I'm all ears. - It was a simulator of sorts. - Kind of like a doll. - Like a model, a headless. - There's a torso. - A torso. That's what it was. And it was not, you don't have to blow air into it. It's latex, and we said it to him. His mom is so mad at us right now. Kim, I love you. We love him. This is all in good fun and for content's sake. - Oh, see, C20 Moreno says cruel. It was not meant to be cruel. - No. - Don't spend me out this whole show, beating myself up. - Paulie, get him on the line if he can. So we sent it and then he sent us a picture of it. - It was there. - When he arrived. - I'm assuming, I'm going to. - Just sitting in the room. - So I didn't think about, I didn't think about the ramifications of it until afterwards. - Well, there's so much to it. - There's so much to it. - Like I was surprised he even opened it. - And then-- - The box? - Yeah. - I'm not surprised he opened the box. - But I guess it's probably discrete packaging. - Oh yeah. - So he saw that. - Oh, what is this? - It's not like it showed up with a bow on it. - The guy sent me some golf balls on my weekend. - Yeah, the guy sent me a box of chocolates and a little wine or something. We're going to call him right now. And we know he got it. He's telling us the picture. Here's the thing, it's so graphic. We can't post the picture. - No. - We can't even blow it out. Good morning, Benjamin. - Hi, Ben. - Good morning, gentlemen. - How are you? - I'm fine, I had a good first day of my trip. - Okay, did you have a good first night of your trip? - I was your night. - It was nice, just, you know, just alone in my hotel room. Why would you add? (laughing) - So we came up with this idea because, you know, we were just explaining. When somebody goes away, you have to mess with them, right? And we all do it to each other. But I was like, I hope this didn't cross the line. But I didn't think about the ramifications. I want to talk about the ramifications. When you got to the hotel, it had beat you there, correct? - Correct, there was a package waiting for me in my room. And it was a nice, heavy, unlabeled package, which was very confusing, is that I didn't think that anyone really knew I would be here, so I was wondering what it would be. But I was kind of-- - They put it in your ring. - 'Cause it had a good nice heft and weight. And I thought, oh, maybe just like a bottle of bourbon or something, it felt like it was heavy enough that it could be, you know, it would be nice. Like, oh man, I can sip on bourbon in my room. It would be great. It would be saying that there was a card or label, but I eagerly opened it like it was Christmas morning. (laughing) - And then-- - Then what? - Like, I'm looking at the description of the product on Amazon, I can't even read the product name. - You can't do it. - I just snotted again. - And then I immediately texted you two going, was this you two clown? - Yes. - Did you leave behind that? - And we said, yes, that was us. So you got it, wait wise, what would you say she is? - Oh, I mean, I was dumbbells for a second. (laughing) - 10 pounds at least, I mean, this was a heavy bomb. - 10 pounds? - Oh my God. - Yeah, that's some good quality item. So you-- - The quality item. - Oh, I've seen stars, bro. So you open it and you go, you son of a bitch, as you got me, right? So here's the-- - Yeah, exactly. - Here's what I didn't, I swear to God bet. The delivery of it was literally meant to be the end of the joke, but as I'm driving around yesterday, I thought, huh, so he opens it. He's there for a few days. What are you going to do with it while you leave to go play golf today? - I'm going to leave in my room, somewhere where hopefully the maid doesn't find me. (laughing) - So then, it's not gonna be your caddy. - I don't think it fits in the, the safe is very small. I don't think you can fit in there. - She's not fitting in there, man. There's no doubt. - Like that, you know, like in a drawer under my empty suitcase or something. - Put it in the suitcase, zip the suitcase, and put do not enter on the suitcase. (laughing) So then, I thought to myself, okay, so he's able to hide it in his room. - I have another question that I have to ask. Did you, did you use it? - Did you try it? - Oh, a gentleman never kisses himself. (screaming) - Oh my God. - Hannah asked me, that happened to you. Would you try it? I said absolutely, 100%. No question. There's absolutely no question in my mind that I would, it's just gonna sit there. - Yeah, okay. Let's just, let's see what all the fuss is about here. All right. - I will add, I will add just because I did, I did look at it rather closely. - Yeah. - I'm sure you did. - It doesn't really come with a user's manual or anything. - No directions. - No, not really. - I think they, I think they, it's true, neither do women. I think they, they assume that you know what you're doing if you are. If you're that big of a deviant to order that, here's the other ramification that I thought of. How are you? What are you going to do, the joke's over, right? How are you gonna get it out of there? And what are you gonna do with it once you do? Have you thought about that? Again, these are all little off shoots to the prank that I swear to God on my mother. I did not even consider. Like, how are you gonna get it out of there? - Have you named her? - Have you named her? And what will you do with it? - Let's just, let's just say that it will remain unspoken of for a long time. Oh, perhaps it, it makes an appearance someday when you guys least expect it. - Oh, he's gonna get us with it. I like that, I like that a lot. Here's the funny thing, he thinks he'd be, hey, I'm gonna bring it to spring training and leave it in Woodsy's bed. And I'm like, all right, it sounds good to me. (laughing) - Thank you, thank you. - Well, I mean, if the Padres go on a winning streak, it may be our new rally. - Oh, our rally doll. - We can just put it right here in the studio. - Yeah, can you imagine? I mean, we're gonna, we get fired immediately. - Oh, fine, we're out of a job. All right, we'll keep that in the Ben & Woods locker, you know, and hang on to it, literally and figuratively, I guess. I hope you, I hope you enjoyed it. I hope you have a great time golfing today and tomorrow and the next day as well. We love you, I'm glad you took that, took it in stride. It's- - Thank you for coming. - Oh, you're welcome. - You're welcome to show today. - We will. - And you guys on Monday morning. - All right, buddy. - Any questions for Mike Schulte, you'd like us to ask. - Yeah, anything for Schulte? - Yeah, just tell them just to, you know what? I don't want any more stress. Get this playoff thing clinched as soon as pop. I don't want to go on down to the last weekend, thank you. - Nor do I. I will tell him that in a few hours when we talk to the skipper at 9 a.m. this morning, Benjamin, have a great, great time. Yeah, the rally torso, somebody said. That's a really good, good idea. I have so much fun, dude. And hit 'em straight and try to win some money off Scottie. Tell Scottie we say hi. - Thank you guys, off to the course. - All right, buddy. - See ya. - That's our bed, man. God takes it, takes it and stride and just keeps on going. You know, the funny thing is, is like, you see something like that. Meghan, and if you started dating Paul, and you'd walked into his house for the first time. - Just had one of these. - And that was there, you know, it was there. - Wasn't that in the reflection? - Probably. If you saw it, you would run for the hills. - I mean. - For the hills, like in first date, you show up and you're like, what, do you have that? - I accidentally left it out. - Yeah, you left it out. Or she like opened a closet to put a coat, her coat in and it's there. You would have lost your mind. - Yeah, I'm gone. - Good gone. If Paul went to your house and opened up your side table of your drawer and was like, oh my God, what a collection. He'd be like, hell yeah. It's the-- - That's a double standard. - That's a double standard for men and women. And I, listen, I realize most double standards go in our favor as men, I realize that. But that's one I can't abide. That's one that I just, I can't reconcile. Why is it okay for you to have a virtual shop next to your bed? But if I decided to get, you know, that, I'm some creepy deviant, which I would be. I would feel like I would be if I-- - Let's do it side by side of what they look like. - That's fair, that's fair. - Yours look criminal. - They do, it really, this looks criminal. - So, show your-- - It's a headless, it's like a headless, it's a headless, really. - I don't wanna look at it anymore. - No, anyway, that was our, that was our fun that we had with Ben and he is, he's just elite. He's an elite human being. We love you, Benny, thank you. I just, the thought of when he opened it. - I swear, I did not think about, what's he gonna do with it? What's, how's he gonna hide it? How's he gonna get it out of there? And where do you, do you look around and like stop by a dumpster at like, at like, Vons and throw this in there? Like, he can't bring it. How's he gonna bring it home? He has a family, like, what's he gonna do with it? Leave it in his car, wrap it up in a sheet? - The bag gets checked. - The bag, well, yeah, seriously. I mean, it's just, you never know. Like, he drove, he didn't fly, he drove. Well, what if, what if one of his kids opened his bag or his wife opened his bag or something? He's like, oh, Jim, fun trip. So, it was a prank that I'm not proud of, but I'm kind of a little bit proud of. - I'm pretty proud. - Well, that was one of our favorite opens and I hope we have a great time. So I'm, we, like I said, struggling a little bit today. Thanks to that wine from the Russian River Valley. It was really good, but we will get through this together. Be here for you till 10 a.m. this morning and I'll set the menu for you next. We'll tell you guys about the incredible gala last night and all that that entails. Be right back celebrating Polly's birthday. Also, how about a, I don't wanna rain on your parade, Polly, but I think I'd get my ass kicked if I didn't mention that my wife is celebrating a birthday on Sunday. - No team Virgo. - Happy birthday. To my beloved Virgo, Hannah, I love you. Thank you for putting up with me. Be back in a few. Ben & Woods, 97.3, the fan. (upbeat music) Very sexy song. Sexy mood this morning here on Ben & Woods. Welcome back. (laughing) Gave me the shivers, Polly. Thinking about Benny opening that package at the hotel. - Well, yeah, we dropped the link. - Yeah, it's in the YouTube chat. If you wanna go see it. - We won't show it. - No, we can't. I mean, you can open the link if you really need to. - Please be careful when you do that, but... - You not be on a work computer or something? - Yeah, yeah, log out or do whatever. - Anthony said, oh, I have a shared Amazon account with my wife. - She'll see it. - Thank you for that. - Yeah. - That'll be in your search history now. - Yeah, she will absolutely see it. - Anthony, you have some explaining to do. - That's right, that's right. We are Ben & Woods minus Ben today. He's playing golf up in LA with a buddy. So it's me and Paulie hanging out. His wife, Megan's hanging out too. Paulie's birthday is tomorrow. Paulie, do you have the picture of our gift? My name, Ben's gift to you. 'Cause I have nothing right now. I'm gonna order breakfast for us. We can eat breakfast, certainly. I'm gonna need something to soak up this half a glass of wine that I had last night that has wrecked me. Do you have the picture? So we got... - Let me find it. - Paulie had said that he wanted a new baseball glove. And I said, "Okay." And he said, "I'm gonna order it." And I was like, "Ah." So I texted our buddy that works for Rawlings, our buddy, Baseball Nick. And I said, "Paulie's gonna hit you up "for this glove that he wants. "Don't charge him. "Benny and I will cover it." And so we got Paulie, this really cool custom Rawlings glove for his birthday. So happy birthday, Paulie. - And I'll say to Colonel Budgets credit over there. - I said, "Here's what the cost is." And this is what you owe me. I've already paid for you. And two seconds later, Venmo comes. He didn't even question it. - He just sent it over. - And it's really, really a cool glove. Paulie's gonna put it in the YouTube chat. - Yeah, I'm excited. - Custom Rawlings. - It's, they're not cheap and that's something... - Yeah, you'll have forever. - I've been working on it for years to treat myself, and I said, "You know what? "That's something that, yeah, "I would really like that. "I'm playing ball a lot more now." - Yep. - A nice custom glove would be really cool to have, but I was like, "I don't know if I should spend "that much money." So I really, I really do appreciate it. - Happy birthday. - It's got her name on it. - Yeah, it's sick. Very excited for that. - It's sick. And it's one of those things where it's like, I do this all the time to my wife. There it is. Look at that. Beautiful Rawlings, 32 on the side, Rindle. It's one of those things I do to my wife. And she's got it to me too, where you get them a gift. And you're like, "Oh." Didn't show up yet. So I'm just gonna print a picture of it and hear Happy Birthday. She did it to me this for my birthday this year. She goes, "Oh, it didn't." She got me new luggage, which I really needed. 'Cause I had an old Timberland suitcase that I got at Ross. And about three days in the zipper came off. So I had to pinch it. And like, every time I used it was a nightmare. You've seen my big old brown Timberland. Right, I put a paper clip in the hole to like open the zipper. This is a stupid nightmare. And it's huge, it's huge. So my birthday comes, I come out, this is my card, and then there's the, I go, "Oh, that's sick, babe, thank you." And then we get an email. "Oh, it's been discontinued." And she goes, "I'll just get you something out there. "Don't worry about it. "Don't sweat it. "You do enough for me." Well then, all of a sudden, the day before we leave for Hawaii, I go to the front door, and it's there, it showed up. Like my brand new luggage was there. So I got that and yeah, so, Polly, happy birthday to you. I hope you enjoy it. Got the new glove. And then Megan, we ordered, she let me order a new custom wood bath. Let me, look at you. No, let me forgive, let me. Well, I picked it out. There you go. And then we ordered it. And you guys, you'll have, Megan has got other presents for you, I'm sure at this weekend, when you guys go away. Really? Yeah, we'll talk more about that in the Rindle Report. Oh, yeah. All right, 9.35. That's a story for that. Awesome. Yeah, you look forward to that. (laughing) You have to go to work actually. (laughing) So, today, it's Friday. You know, it's usually a pretty loose and funny show. No game, last night, certainly. Pretty slow sports night. Slow sports night. Obviously, there's stuff to talk about with the Bill's Dolphins. A pretty scary moment on the field for Tuah last night. And yeah, I mean, you just wonder how much longer, you know, you can continue playing after something like that happens. But we will talk about that game as well. Also, we'll have Jordan Schusterman, our pal on it. Eight from Sespa to his family barbecue. He was tweeting last night about the newest ace to, you know, make his appearance in Major League Baseball. Kumar Rocker for the Texas Rangers. And he looked filthy, filthy, filthy, filthy. And so we'll talk about that. We'll talk about the Padres. And obviously, there are chances. Huge series this weekend in San Francisco. I think we don't-- I agree, it's a huge series. Huge. I don't know that there is any non-huge series the rest of the way. Couldn't agree more. I don't even think we have to qualify the rest of the season. Every series is a big series. 15 games to go for the regular season then. Padres are in a good position. You know, they're certainly in a good position. And then we'll talk about the man that will be hopefully leading that charge to a really, really nice last couple weeks, Mike Schilt, manager of the San Diego Padres at 9 a.m. I was reading more stuff about Schilti last night as a-- you know, I like to kind of check in and see if there's any articles. And there was a mention of Schilti and Ken Rosenthal's latest piece in the athletic. I want to talk about that as well. Yeah. Fantastic, is that? That's great. It was great. I'm sure you enjoyed getting a name drop in a Ken Rosenthal article. That's correct. That's right. That's right. So I love talking to Schilti. That's coming up at 9 a.m. You just stood. Yeah, you are stood. And we'll talk about all that. We've got Parker McCollum tickets to give away. We can take your phone calls. I know everyone's nervous right now. I'm nervous, too. It's going to be-- it's kind of what you live for, though. I mean, it's kind of what you live for if you're a baseball fan when your team is in it with two weeks to go. And not only in it, just in a good position, you know? And they're not playing their best right now, but they're not playing their worst at all. So it's why every game is so important. Tonight is just a nerve-wracking game, Logan Webb against Dylan Cease, who needs to get back on track. So yeah, man. If you could, if you could fast forward from now to Monday, I think, at the 30th, whatever, the day after the regular season ends, would you do it? And just assume the Padres make it to the playoffs. Would you want to fast forward just to get there? Because I feel like these next two weeks are going to be excruciating. They are. The playoffs are hard enough. The playoffs are awful. Day to day. They're just awful. Pitch to pitch. It's just anxiety ridden. And we basically are adding another two to three weeks of playoffs. Yeah. It's essentially-- it does feel playoff-esque tonight. I mean, when I'm going to be an oracle for my first time. And I'm fully expecting just to be a wreck watching the game. And so yeah, man. And there's a question I want to ask, Shilty. It's kind of a philosophical one of, what if, hey, Chrono, we're said the other day, we need to start playing our best baseball. Well, we also saw them kind of pressing a little bit. Now, again, that was against a really good pitcher who had you really flummoxed for six innings. What is pressing? What is ratcheting it up versus pressing look like? You know what I'm saying? Because I was reading about Shilty last night. He had that streak with the Cardinals. They won 17 games in a row to end the season. Like, that's what you want. I doubt very much the Padres are going to go 15 and 0. In these last 15, but certainly is possible. It's also possible they go 0 and 15. So I mean, that's the nature of the beast when your baseball fan and your team's in it, but-- I bet you will let us know what the magic numbers are every day starting Monday. 100%, which is great, which is great. So excited to talk to the Padres baseball with you guys today. We'll be right back. I want to tell you guys about the incredible work that they're doing over at the Lucky Duck Foundation. I was moved to tears last night several, several times. It wasn't just the wine. It was the stories. Got to spend some time with Sheila Seidler last night and passed along a message from her. I want to hear what you got me at the auction. Yeah, in the auction, I'll tell you if I raised my paddle. I don't see a Rolex. There isn't a Rolex today. I think that went for 12 grand last night. Yeah. I don't even know, is that a good deal? I think so. How much do Rolex is cost? I don't know. I have no idea, man. That actually sounds like it might have been a bargain even at 12 grand? I have a Garmin. So I don't have a Rolex. No, but I will say this. Wife and I did raise our paddles a couple of times, which is maybe the most nerve-wracking thing ever, ever. Yeah, it's just terrifying. I'll explain it all next. Ben & Woods, 97 through the fan. (upbeat music) Welcome back, Ben & Woods, 97 through the fan. Happy Friday to all you guys out there. Thanks for hanging with me and Paulie today. As Ben is out, celebrating Paulie's birthday. He's ordering some breakfast burritos right now, which sounds so, so good. I'm only, like last night. They always sound good after a night out drinking. Drink it, I had a half a glass of wine, half. And it crushed me. And I... You texted me at like nine o'clock last night and you were still out and I'm like, oh boy. You're like, oh God, I told you. When you come in this morning, you're like, I'm not feeling great. I got in here. What did you do? Four am, four. This is the third time this week I've been here at four, which is not, it's just not, you can't do that lifestyle all the time. So, I don't know how you guys do it, but listen, I'm gonna do with the breakfast burrito like I did with the one, I'm gonna have like a quarter of it. Just, I just wanted a sense of it. I can't eat the whole thing because where we're ordering from is the size of like, your entire leg and your, or your arm. It's huge. So, yeah, last night was pretty special. And allow me, I think, to get a little bit sappy for a moment. When I talk about the Lucky Duck Foundation, I didn't, they didn't pay me to go or anything like that. Like, I was invited and I wanna tell you all about that. And I wanna talk about Peter Sideler and his wife, Sheila Sideler. I will do that right after this quick check of traffic. Thank you, Kelly Danick. So, yeah, got the invite a couple of weeks ago from Sheila Sideler to go to the Lucky Duck Foundation. Swore, last night as they called it. It was at the sound in Del Mar. I'd never been there before. Beautiful, facility, walked in. And yeah, I mean, I'm not the most, I'm not the big gala type. Usually, honestly, I usually MC, things like that. That's what I've done over the last 15 years is, "Hey, welcome everybody, get those wallets ready." You know, I'll do that bit. So, in that sense, I was very pleased to not have to do that. I could just go, enjoy the time with my wife, and ran into some friends, ran into my agent, Brad, hadn't talked to him in a while. So, I chewed his ear for about 40 minutes last night. He was trying to get away, and I mean, I pay you, so you have to listen to me. So, talk to him, and then walked in and sat down on our table. And Sheila Sideler was at the table right next to us, but we were at the table with Tom Sideler, Peter's brother, who we adore. More, he's the right-- - One of my favorite humans on the planet. - Best man alive, dude. And clearly, something in that blood makes you a great person. Tom's a great guy. - Their parents did a very good job, from what I can tell. - 100%. - 100%. - I only, there's a lot of brothers and sisters. I only know a couple of them. - Yeah, they're two that I knew. - No. - They're great. - Very, very quality humans. - So, Hannah and I walked up, and we thanked Sheila for inviting us. And we talked to her for about probably 10, 15 minutes. And I got a little bit misty-eyed when we started talking about Peter. And we started talking about how, now listen, nothing's booked yet. Nothing's, you know, guaranteed yet. But I don't know how you look at 150 games this year of what this team has been able to do and not feel just a little bit of magic. If you don't, I actually probably have to call BS on you. Like, there's been so many magical moments this year for a team, you know, that was-- - Unexplainable. - Yeah, yeah, 100%. And, you know, you cut $85, $90 million from your payroll and you're having a much better season. And the guys are all together. There's something in the air, man. And I believe in things like that. I believe in magic. I absolutely do. And talking to Sheila about it last night, she absolutely does too. And, you know, she kind of wants, she wants to do this in her own way. And I guess I'll let her. But I just, to kind of pass along a message, she just wants to thank pot-race fans out there. And for all of your support for their family. And of course, for the team this year, the support has been through the roof. And I think it's been very deserving. The team is giving back to you what you're putting in and showing up to the ballpark every night. And here they are, you know, with a position to, in a position to make a run. But, you know, when they got up and they honored Peter and they honored Bill Walton and guys like that, guys that were selfless, guys that were giving of, not only their money, but their time and their heart. And they wanted to put their heads together to end homelessness, to try their very best, to help all the people out there that needed it. They had two stories, Pauli, that they told. I mean, so I'm sitting at the table. 'Cause I've been to charity fundraisers for similar organizations and it's intentional. - Oh yeah, 100%. - The stories that they want presented are very intentional. And God, it just, it kills you. - It certainly feels, I think when you look at the homeless problem in San Diego, it can feel not a little overwhelming, massively overwhelming. And they know they have a lot of work to do. And Peter was so committed to helping that. And Bill Walton was so committed to helping that. And they did a ton of work with that organization, but they brought up a guy, man. Mom had him when he was 15. Dad took off, raised by his great grandmother, she died. Then he goes, foster home, foster home, foster home abuse, drugs, foster home, foster home, sleeps under a bridge, et cetera, et cetera. Through the programs that they started there, he was able to get certified as an EMT and a firefighter. One of the best public speakers I've ever seen. I walked up to him after I said, your story was incredible. You should consider broadcasting. Like your, I'm a broadcaster and you're better than me. And actually speaking into a microphone, he brought us to our knees. And then there was a story of a family, a husband and wife that had kids, she got hooked on drugs, she left, he left. The kids were sent off on different branches. They all came back together and got each other clean. And the wife and the husband stood on stage last night with this check. And the guy looks, the dude, they showed him years ago when he was all messed up on drugs. And they showed him last night. I'm like, the guy looks like a model. Like he's completely cleaned his life. And she was like 15 years sleeping under bridges, sleeping in cars, doing ungodly things to get my next fix. And I'm just sitting there and tears are flowing to my eyes and I'm like, all right, life's pretty good for a lot of us. What can we be doing, how can we use our platform to be better? So I just wanted to shout them out for the work that they're doing in our community, raising a ton of money, helping a ton of people, getting people back through their programs that they do. But it was special and I was really glad to be a part of it. Now, when the auction items started coming up, all right, we're gonna get it started here. We've got the Rolex Submariner. So they had this female auctioneer. And she would do a little sing song. 40 do I hear 40, 40 do I hear 50. And I'm like, oh my God, I'm gonna be singing this in my head. And I haven't stopped thinking 40 do I hear 50, 50 do I hear 60, something like that. And so I'm sitting there so it gets around. I'm like, I'm not bidding. And these bids are starting at $4,000. So we're sitting in our seats and they do the bid for four tickets to the owner's box with parking and a bunch of Padre Signmerch. And I'm looking at Hannah, she's looking at me. Let's start the bidding at $1,000. Right here, okay, so here's what I didn't think about. So I throw it up in a thousand. Oh, we got 1000, do we have two? Do we have two, do we have two? We've got two. Then she comes back at you. Do you have three? Can I get you three? And she's 48. And then you're like, you're like, no, no, no, no, no. It gets up to like, oh, I only brought two with me. Oh, sorry. It gets me to like, it gets me to like, and then so the guys are gonna win at it like four or whatever. And she's like, comes back to you. She's like, we got four, do I have five? Can you bid five? We bid five. And I'm like, I'm not, I can't bid five. And I'm like, babe, these sucking spots alone probably cost like $800. And this might be a bargain. So you just sleek down in your chair. Like, you're like, I gotta go. I've gotta go. Like, I'm starting like looking at my phone. Oh, it's so nice. The wine's running right through me. I'll be right back. But it was awesome, man. And I actually, one of the guys at my table, I had never met before. And many of you longtime San Diegans will certainly know the name. Nor of Turner. And I had never met Nor of before. Now I told him, I said, Nor of, he introduced himself. I go, I know you, Mr. Turner. And I said, I'm in sports radio now. I said, but I said, I wasn't here doing sports radio when you were in your heyday here. And I said, but I am from Dallas. And I was born and raised in Dallas where North Turner won like four Super Bowl, Super Bowl rings as an offensive coordinator and is like a legend. Troy Aikman says, my career is nothing without North Turner. And so we're talking and he's, what's, what's, what station? You on so I told him what time you were six to 10. And I said, uh, do you happen? Oh, this is amazing. I said, I said, do you, uh, you know, Ben Higgins? He's my, my partner on the radio. He stopped and he goes, yeah, I know, Ben, just like that. Oh, Higgins. Yeah. Yeah, I know him. Yeah, I know, Ben. And I go, oh, and then I just stopped talking after that. But yeah, I, I texted Ben that he goes, yeah, that's not really a ringing endorsement. Because I don't think North liked me very much. And I, and in my mind, I'm going, how could anyone not like Ben Higgins? You know what I mean? Like, but I guess, I guess if, you know, you're ripping and he's got all this talent. They don't, they don't win a ton or whatever, you know, I, I can get it. But Norm was a really, really nice guy, really, really good. Awesome. So we had a great time and, uh, thank you again to Sheal and the cider, cider family for having us out there. It was, it was really special. I, I did want to let you guys know she'll seize all of your tweets. Seasonal, the good, the bad, the ugly, the toxic, whatever. And, uh, you know, she, she told Hannah, she goes, boy, you are, uh, you're a spicy one on Twitter. And I was like, she goes, I, I think you're hysterical and so edgy. And I was like, babe, that's the last, I don't need you to be edgy. All right. Just whatever. Uh, but she sees them all. Um, she says that she gets nervous about posting the memories. And I said posting pictures of you guys together. Never. Anybody that noticed, she's gotten a little bit more comfortable with that. I, uh, follow our Instagram and she posted, like she reposted Manny after he broke the home run record for the Padres earlier this week. And then the next slide was a picture of Peter and Manny and it's, I'm just like, yes, keep. Keep that comment. Keep that going. It's part of the, it's part of the grieving process. And, and they are certainly in it, man. They got three, three kids and, um, got a chance to meet one of their daughters last night. Just beautiful and so smart and funny. And, uh, yeah, man, you forget, you forget what they've been through in the last year. And honestly, um, you know, she just wanted to thank everybody out there for your support of the Padres and man, you sit in there and you go, this, this really has been a special season. It's been a magical season and, uh, it's just a good reminder for me personally. I'm not telling anybody else how to live their life, good reminder for me that the more you can be like someone like Peter Seidler, the better off everybody will be. And so I try to remember that, uh, going through as I, you know, as I talk about, uh, the team and, and, uh, but just what they do for the community has just been, it's been outstanding. So, uh, I was really impressed with what they put together last night. It's just, it's now an organization. I think, you know, we're going to absolutely put on our giving, giving list and, and try to get as involved with, uh, them as we can, because they really are doing good work and to see it come out on stage last night was, was spectacular. So, yeah, that's awesome. I really glad you were there. Yeah. It was really good. It was fun. And, uh, it was inspiring. Yeah. C20 Moreno says sounds inspiring. It was so, so inspiring and moving, uh, to see these people that have, you know, it's like, I'm coming here complaining about something. I'm like, well, you weren't sleeping under a bridge last night, dude. You know what I mean? It's always a good perspective, uh, to think about it when, when things may be bad. Uh, and it's also a good reminder if you can help somebody try to help them, uh, because Peter certainly did and, uh, this whole organization did and it was just a really cool night and, and the Bill Walton stuff was great too. I mean, the, the philanthropy, uh, that he, he exhibited every day and, and the work that he put in and the, the desire to help have the homeless people and the unhoused people here. Yeah. Yeah. We have lost some good ones in the last year. And, uh, like when you're talking about shield and grieving process, I'm like, yeah, it hasn't even been a year. I know. It's been 10 months. Yeah. Yeah. Feels like it's been longer. Yeah. 100% man. It was, uh, it was a great night. It was a great night celebrating some great people. Uh, but again, a good reminder for all of us to, uh, try to be great as well, help out where we can certainly, I want to do a better job with our platform of, of trying to help as many people as we can. So thanks for indulging us, uh, that this morning. So we're going to talk to, uh, Mike Schilt at nine AM excited to talk to the skipper. I know he's, I know he's probably, I'm going to say, I would say he's probably on edge a little bit. Do you think he enjoyed the night off last night? I don't think so at all. He just wants to get back out there. Honestly, I, I, we can ask him like, did you want? I mean, for his players, yeah, man, reset some things, get some guys, some rest. But I think when you get to this point of the season, Paulie, you just want to get it not over with, but you just want to get at it. Like you just want to be at the ballpark, doing your routine, sitting around in San Francisco yesterday, I'm sure was excruciating for him. It's just my guess, but I'd put myself in those shoes. I would be a wreck pacing around my hotel. Just like, I just want to get to the ballpark. So, you know, you got all day off today to sit around. He's got to talk to us in a couple of hours, but, uh, I don't, I don't know about you guys man, we could take your calls, uh, certainly 8-3-3-2-8-0-9-7-3, kind of what your, uh, what's your feelings about the potteries the last couple of weeks, you know, I, I think I know what they need to do, how many games they need to win, uh, but it's right there in front of them. They control their own destiny. And honestly, man, like not to be so cut and dry about it, but if it doesn't work out, there's nobody else they can blame. I mean, it's not, well, this team just got, this other team got really hot. Well, I mean, you win your games, you're going to be fine. So the businesses at hand for the San Diego potteries, how are the fans feeling? 8-3-3-2-8-0-9-7-3, we can talk to you guys today. We're going to talk to Jordan Schusterman at 8, says for this family barbecue. There's a story. We'll do it and don't do this. It's crazy singing I've ever heard. I've never seen anything like this, Paulie, this probably goes on, but I've never heard anything like this. When it first came out, I was like, oh, that's interesting. Yeah. And then like every hour as the night went on, like it got more and more weird. I go, what the hell is going on? I can't believe this. Over here in Minnesota, I think, this catcher for the twins. I've never heard anything like this in my life. We've had some wild don't do this story this week. Just insane. Insane. And I'm sure you guys watched the game last night. I caught bits and pieces in the reception area before the gala. Imagine not having James Cook on your fantasy football team. I don't even know James Cook is. Well, he scored three touchdowns. He scored three touchdowns. You have him? Yeah, I do. So he plays for the Bills. Yeah. I mean, I won 100 bucks on him, but yeah, there we go. All right. We'll come back. Talk about last night's game. Talk about Toa. I mean, just what a violent sport. You can call us. We can talk potteries as well. Spent of woods 97.3 the fan. He's spent of over here. I'm going to play a real or fake again here in a few minutes, get a call around the line for that. Did you say you had a call or a poly? We don't know if they're calling. We do. You can just see what they want. Let's just see it's Friday. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Yeah, I was going to play call or fake, but while I got you, I just wanted to wish Poly a happy birthday and tell them to have a good time at Chuck E. Cheese today. Chuck E. Cheese. Now now, Mike, we're going to Dave and Buster. That begs the question of best, best birthday restaurants to go to. Chuck E. Cheese was up there when you were a kid. The Chuck E. Cheese birthday party was elite. We had in Texas a place called Showbiz Pizza that was a little bit different than Chuck E. Cheese, but kind of the same. We were we had a family fund center. Family fund centers are kick ass for a birthday party. I think we went to Chuck E. Cheese like once, maybe I was like six. It was far away from where I live. My kids really like the trampoline places, which are great, except you're guaranteed to get malaria. The minute you leave there, it's it's think about 7,000 kids all scratching, you know, themselves and then jumping into the phone balls and then they're climbing around, jumping around trampolines. It smells like dirty socks. You walk in, you're like, Oh my God, man, there's not enough sanitizer in the world. In the minute, like the minute you walk out the next morning, the so I while Hannah's gone in a couple weeks, Bo has a birthday party, one of his good buddies is having it there and I go, I told her, I'm going to make one of the other dads go because I can't get malaria or whatever, Donald's play play dysentery that I'm going to get from from those places. So but no, it's happy birthday to Paulie. No Chuck E. Cheese. You guys are doing a nice dinner tonight or more dinners tonight, and then I don't know what we're doing for dinner tomorrow night, we're doing a little a staycation tomorrow night. So just kind of broke it up. Nice Saturday. Yeah. Very nice. So last night there was a NFL football game. I don't know how many people really really care about it. I it's just kind of the thing that we run up against every single year being in San Diego. Do people want to hear NFL talk? I don't know. There were a lot of people loving our interview with Amy Trask yesterday. That's different. That's Amy Trask. Amy Trask. I'll watch a little bit, watch a little bit of the first half. I honestly, I thought there was a Padres game last night like once like it was like five thirty and I'm like, Oh, in a panic NFL just started got an hour until first pitch. Never mind. Yeah. No, no Padres game last night. So dolphins ended up getting their clocks cleaned. Pretty good. 31 10. The Buffalo Bills who moved to two and oh to a talk about Loa took one last night. He was running and in a weird turn of events, dammit, Paul got hurt. He got really hurt, concussed, had to come out of the game. It doesn't look it didn't look good. It was Demar Hamlin, by the way, that he ran into, which is just the craziest thing. I just don't know. I don't know how in depth you guys want to get. I didn't watch a ton of it. Like I said, I could only watch it in bits and pieces, but Miami's defense did not play well again. Now, tell me there's two different storylines here. You could talk about the actual game and the Bills blocking scheme, or the bigger picture I think is definitely to a, and I, you know, I, he's had a bunch, man. He's had a bunch of concussed. Yeah. I mean that in the most positive way, I know that doesn't sound positive, but like I hope he doesn't just keep trying to like run it back out there and he's going to get hurt. He's already been hurt. He's been hurt. His arms can cost and I just, I hope if he needs to step away, and I don't know that he does, but I didn't play football. Bro, he, when he got hit and it's scary, man. It's really scary to watch. His arm went up and like, bald into a fist. Yeah. I mean, I saw people look, Twitter is full of, of doctors and wannabe doctors and everyone says, Oh, that's, that's the, uh, his arm got like contorted and, and he held it up. And that is a sign of, uh, you know, brain trauma. And so it's very tough to watch. I mean, you're, you know, in the fact that it was Demar Hamlin that he ran into, there was not, there was no dirty play anything. They're like, just football, just football and clean play on both sides. And I just remember when Demar Hamlin's injury happened was, I think that was, was that January of this year? It was like right. Like their last regular season game or something. And I mean, I thought I watched a man die. Yeah. We all, we all did. And, and then it just became after that and, and you know, it's a miracle that he, that he lived, but after that in the wake of that injury, you go, are we just like waiting to watch an NFL player die before we make some changes, but I don't know what changes you're going to even make. The thing is this is a violent, violent sport to it during the 2022 season. He missed five games, including a playoff game due to concussions. He was stretchered off the field against Cincinnati. He missed two weeks after that. Then on Christmas, he was cut the concussed against Green Bay loss for the remainder of the season. In the 2023 campaign, he, he had a really, really nice season, wanted to avoid head injuries and things like that. Here we are in game two, took one of the, the nastiest shots and really was not a great, great reaction from to a on the field last night and he was done for the game. Mike McDaniel, the head coach of the Dolphin said, look, I'm, I'm worried about the human being right now. I'm not the quarterback. And soon as we get the appropriate information, it's day to day health. So yeah, man, it's a tough sport. It's violent. The older I get kind of the less I, I, I can stomach it a lot, honestly. And you know, here's what it is, man, there's a lot of people that love the game. I, I still like football a lot, but stuff like that when it happens. Yeah, of course. We just want everything to go smoothly. We don't want to see anybody hurt. We don't want to see anybody do weird things with their body after taking a hit to the head. So it was a really, really tough thing to watch last night. But you know, for, for business purposes, 31 10 bills over the Dolphins last night. It's weird to transition into like that fun or the actual game. Yeah. Look, anyways. Yeah. Hope to is okay. Those look great. Somebody said it was actually Antonio Brown is just when he's such a trip on Twitter. And you know, look, he, he calls it. What does he call his, his Twitter account? Like C T E S P N so he tweeted last night in a serious manner. Like I think too, it needs to be done with football concussions or no Joe and, and you know, that's a few. That we know about. I think they did a story too recently that I saw with Brett Favre. And you know, we all know about Brett Favre's history. But on the field, they said Brett Favre said he had, he's like, I bet you I had a thousand concussions since I started playing high school football, like this cannot be good, man. It just cannot be good. So I don't know what the answer is. I know that the NFL is a juggernaut and probably nothing's going to change, but pretty tough to watch last night. So we did this yesterday. Are we doing the same exact thing we did yesterday, Paulie? Yeah, we're going to do real or fake, but I'm playing. You're going to play for our listener. Let's get to our game. All right. Some are here for the compelling sports talk with Ben and Woods. You can go plow through another donut. It's time for real or fake on 97 through the fan. Tell the people what they'll win today. All right. It's just a since Mike did call in to wish me a happy birthday at Chuck E. Cheese. Should we just go with Mike today? Yeah. But what will the people win today? I'm going to tell them. Okay. Mike still with us. Oh, I got it. Yep. Cool here. Got it. Awesome. All right. What's he's going to tell you what you could qualify for should you win? Is it the same one as take on Woods? Yes. Okay. Great. All you have to do, Mike. So Paulie's going to give you your I'm playing for you, right? And you're going to actually be my lifeline on this one. All right. And if we do qualify you, you could win a two night stay at the win or on court Las Vegas, two tickets to see Awakening. Awakening is the thrilling spectacle at win Las Vegas. And on and on we go. It's a mythic adventure on fold sediments amid the most technologically immersive theater ever designed tickets on sale now to awakening.com. So you can qualify for that. Thank you. I skipped about half that. Well done because of that wine that got me last night. All right. Mike. So here we go. Is it the same exact bit? We are going to do the exact same bit. You did so good yesterday. I'm in a good mood. It's birthday week and we're going to get my qualified. No problem because wouldsy will absolutely nail this just like he did yesterday. We're going to go real or fake Ben and Woods interviews and interviewed on our show now. Maybe it was when you and me were hosting and Ben was out. Maybe it was me and Ben and you were out. But you got to know our show. Yeah. So this will be easy. But I have a I'm not great with memory and things like that. But I did do well yesterday. I mean I'll do well. I sent this list over to Ben. He got three wrong. He did. Yes. This is today's. Yes. Oh my god. Okay. So we'll start with number one. Easy one. Bruce Boce. I want to say real but I don't think I was here. I'm going to say real. Mike. Do you remember us interviewing Bruce Boce? I don't but boy I would bet that you might as you probably have. That's what I think. I'm going to say real. No. We've never had Boce on the show. How about that? Oh my god. Never had Boce on the show. All right. MLB insider. We have a lot of MLB insiders on our show over the years MLB insider Tom Verducci. They all run together. Verducci is passing is Rosenthal. Tom Verducci. I'm going to say real. Oh no. Oh would be all right. I know. I'm hung over. We'll get it. We'll get it. We'll get it. All right. U.S.C alum Reggie Bush. Fake. Come on. Wow. Yeah. We actually had Reggie Bush on our show now we need to get a month twice but definitely once he was promoting he had a golf tournament in town. San Diego. Old station. Yeah. I think I was the old station. But that counts. It does. Ben Wood show. Oh god. All right. We got it. We got it. All right. NBA insider. Shams. Sharoni. We absolutely have interviewed shams before but over four Mike I'm so sorry that Woodsy doesn't know anybody that we've ever had on our show. Thanks for calling. Those are four people. We should have interviewed Polly. Three of them. We should have interviewed him. So you need to get on that. I would love to talk to shams. Who are the other ones that we just mentioned? Shams Bochi. Bochi. Verducci. And Verducci. Reggie. And shams. Do you want to keep going? Yeah. Keep going. For S's and giggles. Sean McVay. Yes. Jesus. We were the ram station across the street. We never had him on. We had Wade Phillips was our guy. He was great. Fortnite. Fortnite. We had... You know who was our... We actually had him on a few times. You had their kicker I think. Johnny Hecker. Johnny Hecker. We had a cave to leave called in like three or four times. He was pretty good too. Which was kind of weird. He was very weird. Just talked to like a player. Yeah. Yeah. Never had Sean McVay. So you are 0 for 5. You know this comedian Andrew Santino from Dave. The redheaded guy. Yeah. Never. Had him in studio. Met him face to face. I have a picture of you with him here. I was not here. I was not here. I've never met that. Okay. Never. And then finally. Are you sure I was here with him? I have a picture of you with him. Wow. 0 for 6. Unreal are fake. Finally. The last one. Phillip Rivers. Wheel. 0 for 7. I don't know why you did so much better yesterday. 0 for 7. 0 for 7. Never had Phillip Rivers on. I was in the chamber right there. Yep. That is well. Sorry about that Mike. I mean. You couldn't have done worse real or fake ever. I got no hit. Bruce Bocey. Did not have. Yeah. You got every single one on. Bruce Bocey. I thought we were real. Nope. The Virginia one was that was tough. I just I could vividly remember talking to all of those people. Except for the ones that we didn't. Holy cow, man. Holy cow. Anyway. Coming up next, we will we will do don't and do do this. And I'm telling you, man, this is honestly one of the wilder stories I have ever come across in all of my time. Not covering sports. Just. Taking sports. I can't believe this story and I need more info. I need. I want. I want. I want to quote his teammates. 100%. What the hell? I can't believe this. A catcher was cut by the Minnesota Twins yesterday for the wildest reason ever and we will tell you why coming up next Ben Awards 97 3 the fan don't do this. It's time for don't do this. What were you thinking three stories from the world of sports that make us on. All shake our heads. How many times do I have to tell you? I'm sorry. I fudged up guys. You idiot. You moron. Out come out. The apple sometimes does far fall from the tree. Don't do this. Do not tweet that with Ben and Woods. I like a Nickelback song or two on 97 3 the fan. Oh, yeah. Two stories that make you shake your head and and something positive here on Ben and Woods this morning. I got to I got to say, man, I've been teasing it all morning. This is one of the wildest stories I've ever seen in my whole life. I don't really get it. The Minnesota Twins have released minor league catcher Derek Bender. After he was telling opposing hitters what pitches were coming to the plate during it bats in a game last week that eliminated his team from playoff contention. So he's behind the dish. He was a six round draft pick. He just got drafted in July playing for the Fort Myers mighty muscles. That's the twins single a team. The second game of a double header. He told multiple hitters for the Lakeland Flying Tigers, which is a Detroit farm team. Exactly what pitches that were being thrown by starter Ross Dunn Lakeland scored four runs in the second inning that won the game six nothing to clinch the Florida State league. The coaches his coach were notified by the opposing team's coaches who was getting the benefit and and and the players were coming back to the dugout goal. That's that's how you know this is bad hundred when one team is getting information and they go, this is so dirty. We're going to tell the other team, Hey man, come check out your boy here. I have the only the only explanation I saw for it was that he I guess he he's declined like the ESPN article says he's declined comment. But the the one explanation I saw for it was he was he was ready for the season to be over. Yeah. And here you go. You got you got Ross Dunn, his teammate out there trying his ass off, you know, pitches team into the playoffs. And his own catcher is going, Hey, fastball middle in fastball away slider away. He's doing crash Davis. He's doing crash Davis, but he wasn't to teach him, right? It wasn't to teach him a lesson sucker tee off and I like you knew I was going to throw a fastball. He did know I told him you can't like there's people in Twitter. There's people in Twitter on Twitter, like trying to justify this guy says, well, teams don't take minor league teams results seriously. Why should players? Are you having kidding? Dude, have you ever been part of a team ever? Players don't get paid more for playoffs as I understand could be wrong. But if they don't get paid more, why would you work an extra week away from home for no extra money? Are you kidding me? You know what it means to be a teammate. You do not throw your teammate under the buzz slider. I mean, your crash Davis teaching nuclear luge a lesson fine, but that's not what this was. The guy wanted the season to be over. So he just wanted the game to end. That's I've never heard. Unbelievable. They cut him. He's out. I would like to sit down now again, you know, you know how I'm wired. I put myself in his shoes or like tried to say, what if I'm his dad to call him and go, what, what? What were you thinking? Like, what? What happened? Like, are you okay? Because honestly, I heard that say, I don't want to play, walk away. Yeah, walk away. That's better. That's better than doing that. It's just a weird. He is no call no show. Good. No call no show. Because at least you're not bringing down your teammates. I just don't get it. I don't get it. So they caught him. I mean, again, 300 grand, I think was his, his, what they invested in him and guys out of a job. And I mean, who picks him up? Who picks him up? So just wild, man, just wild. So kind of fitting. We just talked about the NFL and our last segments and, you know, scary moment for, for two yesterday with another injury, and there's been some more injury discussions throughout the week. And I don't think we've talked about it, but last week, last Thursday night was the NFL kickoff, Ravens at Chiefs and linebacker, Baltimore linebacker, Kyle van Noie, he got hurt in the game. And this week has been, he has been criticizing the Chiefs medical team for how he was treated. And now it's turned into the NFL PA, the player's association versus the league, and everyone's bashing each other on how this all happened. So if you don't remember or missed it entirely, Kyle van Noie suffered, it says a fractured orbital bone in the third quarter, an eye injury. And it took him an entire quarter for him to see the Chiefs, ophthalmologists on site. He was just sitting there like in pain, like just, yeah, it took, I mean, a full quarter, it's 15 minutes of game time, but that could be like 45 minutes of real time. And so he said, that's, that's unacceptable. That is unacceptable for a visiting player or any player, but you know, you think something sounds fishy here when it's a visiting player who's hurt. And the team, the host team is responsible for providing doctors on site. It goes beyond, you know, that we're not talking. If they were in Baltimore and a Chiefs player got hurt, it would be on Baltimore to provide an ophthalmologist. We're not talking gamesmanship and, and you know, like that needs to be addressed ASAP. Would it have they responded at all the NFL PA said, you know, medical attention should be provided as quickly as possible. That is in the collective bargaining agreement. And it's also just human nature, common sense. And he said, the NFL PA said, I think this was an unfortunate situation where that did not occur. Thank God for Kyle's situation that it wasn't worse, but here we are with the first game of the season. We got many more games to play. Yeah. We just can't have that. No, you don't want that reputation. And the NFL, their spokesman said it's disappointing. The NFL PA would publicly, or publicized, unsu, unsu, unsupported conclusions without attempting to understand the facts. We have reviewed the case with the Chiefs and the Ravens medical staffs and are comfortable he received appropriate care. So it's turning into finger pull, he said, he said, he said, uh, what, what did we say we were going to do for do do this because I've forgotten already. Our boy. Oh, how about this? How about this kid, some fire, a screen, just go get it. Cringed job off, plant the city or go, go, go, go. So we, uh, it was right at the end of our show yesterday, we were walking back to do the round table and Paulie was going to the production studio, he goes, Oh my God. And I go, what? Look at this. And he hands me the phone. Do you have the audio? Yeah. Listen to this. MLB post. It's been amazing. You know, I watched this team two, three, four o'clock in the morning and it means the absolute world to actually see them in real life and see these players, see the ball puck in real life. The place to be to be to be to be to be the best. The place to be to be to be to be to be to be able to be to be to be to be to be to be he couldn't he wouldn't eat chowder with fish in it if he had a gun to his head he would he may be when we went and went in san francisco no way he's not the when in roe and when he is in roe literal roe he will eat your bowl literal roe like it'll he won't do it we went to china he got a i'll take the bread bowl but uh... just put some regular soup in there then not clam chow what kind of i don't know that they offer like i don't know like broth or anything you know what i mean i'm on the war for the bread bowl i absolutely can see y'all got any beef broth in there so i mean i just don't see it dude i don't see it at all i think i think that because we went to pf change with it and it was one of the more incredible experiences of our lives we're sitting there with the new skipper and i order beef and broccoli poly orders crispy honey shrimp then orders kung-pao chicken then we get around the shilty and he's like what kind of sauce is this they're like she's like she's like brown sauce and he's like huh is there like garlic is that spicy is that spicy is that really i can make it spicy what about this sauce how about this sauce on that and it was it was basically i mean look and i bro i eat like i'm i eat like a toddler i'm chicken nuggets and mac and cheese so i i get it but it was like the most when they brought it out i was like bro that is bone dry like just plain chicken and broccoli so i don't see him down on the wharf poly sucking down clam chowder i just don't i'll find out i don't i'll have an hour i'm dying to know now he's a barbecue guy yeah he's a huge huge barbecue guy huge but i don't know how good the barbecue is in san francisco either a lot of people have been uh in the chat asking me are you going to get the uh lupia at oracle park that's a ballpark that's their like it's one of their specialties and i don't remember if i like lupia or not i think you do do i delicious what is it it's the little crisp rolls yes and what's in it i mean look up now i don't like ed rolls it's thinner it is thinner uh lupia various types of spring rolls from china indonesia in the philippines lupia are made of thin paper like or grape like pastry oh yes okay i think i like that and there's a red sauce you dip it in oh yeah i just don't have it a lot i haven't i've had it like maybe once or chile sauce i think oh it's so good somebody brought it i think maybe chrisma brought it to a tailgate one time yeah and i chrismas brought them i think to like bend and woods events but i was not i was not i had had a lot of drinks and i didn't want i didn't want lupia then so maybe i'll try it at the ballpark is it good so everyone's saying at oracle it's like really really really really i've only been to oracle once it was a long time ago i don't know definitely didn't have it there at the ballpark but i'm sure it's good okay all right sure it's okay i'll try it Jason said to get over ourselves i don't know what that means i'm just asking you if i don't know i'm just asking i'm asking if i like lupia i can't remember i haven't had it in a long long time it's delicious i think i honestly i think i've had one bite of it in my whole life now i want some lupia okay well i'm going to get it so everyone's also saying crab garlic fries i can't i'm not doing garlic fries because it's going to be with me for the whole weekend the whole weekend that whole park smells like garlic i heard because it's that's their another other specialty so yeah all right i'm going to try some lupia tonight i'm going to get wild at oracle tonight and hopefully watch hopefully watch dylan sees uh throw a gem let's check traffic we'll get out to the phones here in a minute and have some fun on a friday all right joslyn said that she's mad at us that we she brought some and i think i don't remember did you know she brought i think she brought some to the uh extravaganza okay well i i didn't need any there um but i don't remember anything joslyn ever you know that you just heard real or fake i was over seven people we've actually i've you've spoken to or haven't spoken to uh so yeah she did she she fried she fried it up at four a.m she brought it in thank you for that i did not have any uh that day all i did on the christmas and holiday extravaganza joslyn was eat fourteen vg's donuts so um i was i did not i was not the move for egg rolls that early that morning but thank you for doing that i it was appreciated and i think everybody crushed it uh there let's go out to the phones probably to talk some potterase baseball who's uh who's online scoty uh joe joe's calling in what's up joe hey thanks for having me on how's everybody doing doing good buddy how are you doing well you know my way to work you know are you nervous no oh good okay no we're talking cough i love the confidence man um got to be um so i'd like a two-part question uh the first part is i feel like the potters are pretty much just playing 500 ball out of late yep i'm the extra slumping and the meds are on fire yeah i know the meds have like seven games coming up with the ability so maybe that'll bring back back down to earth um i wanted to hear and i know the braves are slightly behind there but um i just wanted to hear what your predictions were on the four five and six seats that who will end up where and then the second part of it is um because i think we will make the playoffs uh i don't really see any of our starting pitchers that are like showing that they like deserve the ball in game one basically yeah i think michael king gave up three and his last uh star don't see he's gave up four um must grow gave up six and obviously those are all just one starts but i don't see anyone down the stretch like snow last year or darvish the year before with like that's our clear game one starters that's our god that's great great question call we talked about it a little bit on the round table yesterday and everyone i think Craig craig i think craig and i were in agreement that michael king for for both of us now again you have to remember joe so i i don't have a crystal ball i don't know how it's going to come down but as i look at it right now not just me a lot of people are saying based on the schedules of the two teams it's basically the diamondbacks and potteries everyone thinks you're going to be in in some one or two so they're you know flip flop those whatever we are half a game behind half a game on it they uh if the playoffs started today yep Arizona would host sandy gopadres yep in the wild card round and then it would be the Mets taking on the brewers yep so at that point so we take on the Giants diamondbacks are playing Milwaukee at home in Arizona uh the Mets are at Philly okay so the Mets are at Philly Philly is playing a little bit better right now they they had a little bit of a a down run there but they're playing better they've won three in a row eight two in their last ten i'd say you know they've they've kind of ride to the ship the Braves are playing the Dodgers and the that's the one that not just me but i think most pundits are saying man with the injury to Ronaldo Lopez with the injury to Austin Riley with all the injuries that are adding up they're just kind of running out of time and their schedule is pretty nasty so my prediction today just if you ask me i'm going to tell you i think it stands i think it ends up actually think it ends up just like it is right now as uh i think sandy ego jumps Arizona sandy ego jumps Arizona very very possible very possible and remember uh the last you know three games of the season are going to be against the Arizona Diamondbacks coming down could come could come down to the wire which will be really exciting now the second part of your question is and i know where you're coming from here because we did kick this around yesterday who in your eyes has earned the right to be the number one starter it's such a hard question to answer today because i don't know do you have to qualify it like well 15 games left so five starters everyone has three more starts right okay today is cease tomorrow is must grow and and you go i think Perez is on Sunday Martin Perez is going on Sunday and then it flips back over Darvish so if you played it out today i think Craig figured it out if i think he said yesterday it would be king would be the odd man out right he'd be fourth in the rotation state if they stayed with how it goes now now there's off days coming up to hey there's off days and then you got a factor in is that last weekend in Arizona going to be impactful how important is it so then you might have to rejigger for that so now you ask like all right if all things being equal we finish the season today and everyone is it's not possible no one's gonna be no one's gonna be but it dreams scenario rest everybody's rested and it's on rotation you get to choose your three guys for a potential three game series i think i said yesterday i think i said must grove no i'm sorry i think i said king cease must grow and i think Craig said the same thing darvish gets left off darvish in in yeah in the first round based just based on not enough innings he'll have three more starts you know i just don't know like and so and and and elo said let's go darvish must grove cease king to the bullpen and we talked about this because the way that it's always been done always seemingly in baseball is no i'm going with my i'm going with the guy i can trust right the u darvish that's been there michael king has been really nowhere near you know starting a game one of a playoff he has in my opinion he has the nastiest stuff currently as it stands on the staff i i i know that the the inning got away from him the other day but remember he got himself in trouble and then he got his ground ball that he needed and crony dropped it and and so again he did not have the ability to put his head down and get through it gave up a couple hits after that the run scored that being said man i'm pretty confident and i maybe i'm foolish but i i look at cease darvish must grove they talked about we talked about yesterday take the six minutes out of joe muskros start which you know i guess can't do but take that weird six minute where seven guys in a row got a hit he's been fit like phenomenal phenomenal so that's who i give the ball to game one so that's the thing is like do you want he's not a it's not a well he's from here or well he threw that no hit her three years ago you know no it's it's he's a dog hundred percent which is why i kind of want him he's got experience it's why i want him at the back i don't want cease in the game three i want i want joe game one because you need you want you don't need it but you want game one so badly well if having to only win one of your last two is a lot so much different than being in the in the hole oh and one and having to win back-to-back games on the road bro but it's so different it's like if i got three to play with if i got three to play with like i'm not if we lose game one we're not out of it right don't you want that experience do you want the the dill and cease experience in a game three i don't think you do i almost think you go i go joe cease then game two then who's three darvin i say king for game three baby that's i mean look i again but i know these guys have been shaky right now a little bit i know there's been some some things that you can point to who do you trust the most right now as it stands and again you know i has michael king michael king in my opinion has earned the right to have one of those first couple games i think so i don't know man it's a great question i mean darvish darvish has the most experienced venue hundred percent which is why they'll probably go with him in a game one i mean you know he's slowly ramping up yep and i i was more than okay with what he gave us in his last start so you got to remember he's gonna have like what three more starts between now and then well and so you got it it's gonna be really important to see how he looks in those three starts if darvish is fully ready to go i don't know how he doesn't get a start but then it's like are you gonna not pitch cease because you traded for him specifically for that they playoff start so i don't know that you can sit him either but for me getting that first game especially if you're on the road i think is so important yeah they're all they're all gonna be on the road so yeah if you play on the road you mean yeah yeah if if san diego finishes in the five seed yep i think uh i throw i'm most confident in joe and how dominant he has been saved for five minutes whatever in his last start and again we'll see what happens for everybody in their next three starts i just i we all are today i'm giving joe the ball we know all we all know how baseball works you've had you know and and and she'll i think she'll can speak to this at some point probably not today it's probably not the right time to ask him but at some point you know he would they would go like oh adam laine rights our game one starter you know after a a good year but it was just a guy that they could trust let's be honest too i think you do make those decisions how much does playoff experience factory i think it factors in a lot i i do i and i i think but at some point everybody had to have their first playoff start at some point right right so yeah you know if michael king continues to do what he's done i look at him and i go yeah man i want his i want his nasty two-seamer riding in on the hands of corbin carol in a game one you know i want him uh you know neutralizing cotel marte christian walker and he's got the stuff to do it but then again when they're right sees darvish musgrove they all do so it's kind of a it's kind of a fruitless question at this point because we don't know how it's gonna don't know how it's gonna play out but in what universe do you see a manager going yeah we're gonna start you in the bullpen for you know three games series i just don't think it's going to happen man i really really don't i don't think i don't think he could happen adam says he doesn't think he's earned a playoff start also could be a weapon out of the bullpen yeah and i think he has i think he has earned a playoff start has who's earned again we're talking for four games who's earned it more this year michael king or you darvish and joe musgrove the answer is michael king bar none who's earned it more this year michael king has so by that logic you know it's king and cease and then you figure it out yes you're probably the counterpoint would be like no who's earned it over the course of their career sure absolutely fair absolutely fair and that's what the manager and and the holistic approach is gonna have to figure out but again we don't know anything because we don't know how it's gonna play out we don't know how much that we're gonna have to ride those guys all right let's go back out to the phones uh we got robert calling in robert you got about 30 seconds you want to weigh in on this yes sir i got just one one one thing i could say about uh the starting rotation that we got for this uh post season coming up true you know we're gonna be in the post season bro yep we got joe musgrove that shoved in new york with everybody on his back i mean that's the only way that i can see it going bro game one game one all right you're your polys camp i like it man i got no problem with that whatsoever whatsoever so adam by the way i misquoted adam he said he has earned a playoff start he said but he would also be filthy out of the bullpen very very good point um so yeah king sees musgrove if you split those first two guarantee somebody's coming out of the bullpen that you probably weren't expected in game three and if not if you win it then there your game one starter in the dia in the ds now i'm excited for it i know that man but these are these are those uh these are those questions that if it doesn't work well if it doesn't work the right way with this this with this many quality starters as the pod rays have uh it's one of those things where you're like oh i hope we don't hope it'll make the wrong decision but it's good look it's going to be all hands on deck man uh for those three days it's going to be elite and electric so i guess for me and it's just it's just uh the circumstances for michael king but he seems like the only one that wouldn't be weird to see coming out of the bullpen just because he's just because he's done it can't see joe coming out of the pen can't see darish coming out of the pen yeah and i just said you you know you shipped off so many guys to go get an eight a frontline starter he's still in c was your number one you know you can't you can't have him coming out of the pen nope i think it yeah and it's no fault of michael kings yeah not at all no and and if you advance to the ds king will get a starter oh yeah hundred percent so yeah you got to get there but janeen says they better figure out how to beat the giants first janeen i can always count on you for sobering reality my sweet sweet jane love her she is the best and she just makes me insane but i love her because she always she's like you start to get a little bright side and she just comes in and just wow right the nuts so she got me janeen thank you you did but she's absolutely right we do need to figure out how to beat logan webin the giants tonight um all right so we got coming up next we got jordan shusterman from sespittis family barbeque we'll talk to him about kumar rocker we'll talk it talk to him about the playoff races going around right now adam just said potteries uh on fan graphs 93.3 percent chance to make the playoffs the diamondbacks at 93.2 all right go figure all right i'll take that yeah i'll take that every day of the week all right gonna be joined by jordan shusterman next stay right here venom woods 97.3 the fan my dad works in this catcher just the craziest thing dirt bender that's his name jordan and jake they specialize yes goofy odd stories in baseball yeah and uh doesn't get much goofy or an odd and not a minor league content from them over the years and i got a wonder if they've ever seen anything like this because that story we talked about and don't do this it's it's unbelievable it's truly truly incorrect go home then dirt bender tipping pitches for the opposing team letting everyone know what was coming and where it was going to be and and ruining his own team's chances at a playoff appearance so we'll get get to jordan right after this quick ticket traffic no we're gonna go traffic all right we'll go to him right now how about that no traffic right pulling correct jordan good morning sorry bends out hey guys i had a little i had a little wine last night sorry oh you're fine like literally just to see you both just a little wine like a half a glass more than i had and it's it's affecting me tremendously i got to ask you about this story i can't wrap my head around it Derek bender we we just talked about it do you do you know Derek at all do you know of him like what's your your history we do actually we so we just talked about on our show we recorded this morning um i don't want to pretend like you know Derek super well but someone we met familiar with obviously we cover as you mentioned Paul we covered the college game very closely yeah and covered the draft very closely and so we met Derek at the lb combine actually when we we covered earlier this year um and uh the draft combine uh back before and you know he was again pretty standard catching prospect um sixth round pick uh we coming into the year actually was expected to be an even possibly like a top three round guy i had kind of an up and down season at coastal um but Derek is a is a is a goofy gentleman i will say that okay we had a good time talking to him but i think with this is i want to kind of zoom out farther than than him in particular because i do think that part of the conversation here is right the premise the story that is being told right and and perhaps there was still there's still another side to the story that we will find out perhaps we will see at some point that there is some sort of misunderstanding whatever although based on the reporting it's you know he's already been released and so it seems that the conclusion was was arrived at very very confidently right so if we go by the story that is being told the premise here is that he did not want to be playing anymore right he he wanted the season to be over and so he was it by doing this trying to have his team lose right that's the very basic premise of it yep speed it up right yeah we're done yep now i think you guys know this you guys have talked about typical players for a long time right the basic premise of players wanting a season to be over at this stage particularly minorly players that by itself especially in the minor leagues right is not completely unheard of okay so let's just let's establish that right however of the hundreds of players that you know over the years thousands infinite of players that have had the dog days wind down as a season and it's like oh it's been a long season yeah playing it in all these minorly parts none of them have done this or at least not to this degree that we immediately find out about it right correct and so that is why we end up at a all on an all-time poor choice of of of decision-making and ultimately throwing your teammates under the box yeah by by having costing them a chance to compete in a genuine way because let's be honest and i made this point in the podcast this morning if you want to go up there and swing at every pitch yep because you want you can do that and no one's gonna say a word not a word it's gonna right i'm sure that's happened you can take everything oh it's i i was looking fast ball man he threw a curve ball sorry nothing i can do nothing i can do nothing there's ways if there's ways to move the game along right that's fine not not that i'm saying that's what it but like that i guess my point is the notion that someone sees to be over is not impossible to fathom yeah what is impossible to fathom is this is is the way you go to about doing it yeah i saw a guy that is what is so disappointing and i saw a guy tweet he says a lot of dudes who've never been in a dugout casting stones i would tell you after 150 plus games 90 percent of the guys on that diamond wanted to go the hell home this dude played 19 games 19 names is what he played he wasn't out there for 150 squatting behind the dish so this if this is the premise it makes zero sense and i literally i said i try to put myself in the position of this young man or like the position of his father and if i was his father the first thing i would say is son are you okay honestly that are you okay because if you don't want to play that's fine you don't have that's fine yeah absolutely right fine to that point but from the twins perspective which is why they released him yeah that's not a mindset let alone a choice of judgment that you would want to have in your organization with why you end up right again fascinating story fascinating story just incredible uh and and obviously more will come out and it just i look again as a human being i feel for somebody that would look at that situation say yeah this is what i'll do and and you know it's bad when the other team's like bro this guy is literally telling us what pitches are coming in location i mean for nothing in the first inning or whatever and that poor pitcher that's out there grinding for a gig too uh just again one of those stories we will all continue to be fascinated by and watch talking to Jordan Schuster assessment his family barbecue how are you doing buddy we uh we split you know potteries mariner split i'm telling you i know i know everyone hates on your offense but i look at your lineup and i go what they're taking they scare me i mean there's guys in there they're scary is it is it like the pottery syndrome of last year where you're like no no they'll get hot they'll get hot uh at this point no but then to your point the names in the lineup definitely are better than the numbers at this point but this one is just too late and and their loss last night um was more indicative of some of the issues they've had recently uh some pretty astounding stats we've talked about the the lack of you know the elite starting pitching combined with an inability to either support that pitching or have the bullpen able to to kind of slam the door behind it just an incredible statistic from uh ryan divish who now the mariners unsurprisingly you know lead league in in quality starts uh right um i mean this is what this is what they're built on is and they had Bryce Miller was awesome you saw what brian will be able to do my god he's incredible man uh and he's right he's outstanding um the mariners 87 quality starts uh the season by far the most and they're 57 and 30 in those games by contrast the fillies were second most with 74 they're 60 and 14 so the mariners have found a way to lose 30 games that they were you know got quality starts from their starters and some of that has been because they can't score and some of that has been because the bullpen which is has just been thinned out by injuries i mean coming into this season and so much of their success last year was having a mat brash they trade for Gregory Santos they trade for yemi Garcia you know in the middle of the season and they've gotten next to nothing out of those guys brash has been out the whole year Santos has barely pitched Garcia pitched a few times and then is now out for the year so the bullpen while they have had some some standout performances as they've kind of created their quote unquote pitching lab it's just not enough and uh with the offense that they have it's it's just it's not a complete team and that is why they're in the position they're in talking to uh jordan schuster been assessed for this family barbecue we do it every friday brought to you by our friends at grand old barbecue uh so jordan somebody had called in earlier and asked us to kind of look at where we are as pottery fans and and you know you look at the uh the contenders uh in the nl and the nl wild card and metson braves are kind of the ones where we're looking at potteries and diamond bags at the top they're potteries trailing by half game in the wild card uh metson braves are the the ones that are are making some noise i mean braves are five and five in the last 10 the mets are red hot eight and two but they got the fillies the braves got the dodgers um listen i mean the potteries have the giants who have been a a bit of a pain for us this year then we've got the astros then we got the light socks mercifully but those games are going to be excruciating to watch because you need to win all three of those i mean it's it's coming down to the wire what is your uh kind of outsider's perspective on who who's going to be left out of the dance yeah i think uh this week was the first time that the mets playoff odds surpassed at lana's and a lot of it was you know looking at some of their schedules and saying that they looked like the Mets was tougher and a lot of that is because they do have seven more games against the fillies were so exciting about where we're at now and i i know it's uh it's maybe not as many races as we were hoping for but we maybe saw it up with the a at least um some other division races we'll see but you know you have this series you know between the Mets and the braves where not only will the standings alone will maybe be determined by that but they all also the tiebreaker right we don't have game 163 anymore and those teams are five and five against each other so far this year so those three games are really setting up to be special and i think with the way both these teams have been playing it should remain close enough to give us that i mean the Mets have gotten enough pitching uh recently that that has really allowed them winning you know 15 of their last 20 their offense has really more recently just been about lindor and jessie winker has been a lot better recently but some of their other veterans have not been swinging it over the last couple weeks that nimos and jadie martina's Pete's been okay so there's maybe more upside with that offense i think the offense is what carried them for a lot of the beginning of the season and now the pitching is finally stepping up whereas at lana i mean we know they're just scrapping it together on offense yeah and they're just hoping to get and because i still believe they have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball so they are they will scare you if they can hand ultimately get in but it's it's going to be dicey because their ability to score runs is still not not awesome right now and obviously injuries have played a huge role in that it is so dicey watching and again the the schedules are going to be a big part of this and you know the the dodgers they want to win those games too because they're they're scrapping it out for best record and and i mean it's just it it you know we're pretty nl focused here obviously in san diego jordan and i and i watch this and i go man it really i can't remember in it probably recency bias but i'm looking at this going i don't remember in time it was this exciting mostly because our team is in it and uh you know kind of poised to make some noise in the post-season if we can get there and i think there's still pottery there's a lot of pottery fans they're like that poised to make some noise put that on a shirt that's trademark benham woods copyright and i will do the you guys make plenty of shirts yeah we know what's what's what's the way we haven't made one in a while actually poised to make some noise you know what our problem is jordan is we feel like when we make a shirt everything will go south and then we'll be the new guy that's what's in guys oh yeah so we don't want that's what's in yeah we don't want that moniker so we we are very hesitant to to put it all out there you know i mean i think you could really back i don't have you fully understand jordan it's been two years now almost those guys it never never be able to show their face and say it never leaves that that's what the i think i think we extend the olive branch when the pajamas make the world series yeah barman s can come back throw out a first pitch or something ah so they were so when they made the video two years ago the one of our stations down the hall had them in and we we hung like newspapers on our glass so they wouldn't look into our studio because if we shot the door we shot the door we put a sign on the said gone fishing yeah gone fishing and we kept them out of the studio we needed was one of them to come hey you guys want to talk to the that's what's in guys absolutely because we were we were live it that they made that video and we're begging our fan base to not make any raps or any videos or anything to make any big noise you just want kind of want to be quiet and be under the under the radar that's fair um but also like it is interesting if we if we dig into that the the notion of poise to make some noise we're gonna run with this for a second it is when it's like oh they could make it's like now i don't know like the pajamas have put themselves in a position where people like i'm not saying they're a favorite but it's like they've built this team where now it's like no you should it's like oh they could make some noise like no no you're really good they should make some noise disappointing if you don't make some noise i know it's weird how perspective that's what poise means yeah but i think they're the expectations should should be there i think this is especially now with tatis back yep um now we're looking at we're really looking at an impressive group i'm i'm excited so i didn't but but again Arizona a lot of the reasons to be excited by Arizona as well um maybe not quite as much on the mound but their offense is legit right as far as it's been doing carol certainly been playing much better they're getting healthier so both of those teams and and yeah that would be a really interesting you know i don't i'm curious would you guys like i don't really know what the pajamas debax rivalry is like what the status of that is it's not much seem particularly strong however that this could be an opportunity to kind of spice that up if they do end up playing in that first round i mean they're they're pretty terrifying team the Mets are are pretty terrifying and they played the pottery is tough this year so it's coming down to the wire man we certainly appreciate your time either with us drug before you leave uh no just how was uh how was jake's wedding yeah he joined us on friday and busted out the saxophone on the air with us did he crush it yeah uh wait he did that on friday he did it on friday yeah he was sitting outside in his backyard or so wherever they were at and uh pulled out a saxophone and started playing well the saxophone was a big part of the wedding he had been secretly learning it for months to surprise his his now bride uh and it was incredible it was very very funny well i was a great weekend it was fantastic time we we didn't get a little little behind the scenes on the on the pottery recorded this morning so if you want more wedding chat uh you can definitely get that but yes obviously congrats to jake uh and tomorrow was it was a lovely time i was very very excited to be there no day i said love you dad thank you i appreciate it it's just nice to have anybody that's if you're a dad and you want to text me tomorrow it would mean a lot i'm a dad i will text you tomorrow so uncomfortable yeah be right back it's been a once 97 through the fan congratulations to brian oh yeah brian you're winner very excited about going to see parker mccollum yeah congrats brian he actually uh didn't he actually didn't know what he'd want you know what but he was excited i appreciate it he heard call in and he did it and that us will be called in and he won yeah congratulations he uh he goes who might go and see again paul he said parker mccollum he said oh cool so this parker mccollum that's not enjoy enjoy i listened to uh put on the other day i i've been really trying there are all these names that pop up it's been a once 97 through the fan there's names that pop up every day on social media and i go who's that what it what do they do like i saw somebody named tate mccray who's very attractive uh young paulie's wife magginson here she's very attractive she's a pop singer i believe okay so i i listened to some of that and it's not my jam so i went and uh everyone's talking about jelly roll so i went and listened to some jelly roll the i want to be informed and so i went and listened to some jelly roll the other day and i can't get over the name it's jar and then you see him and you're like that's a pretty good name actually you look like a jelly roll and he seems like a uh pretty good dude and i listened to his music and i thought all right i can cancel got a little yeah got a little something to it but it every day somebody comes out and i go man it's official like i'm i'm aging out i'm aging out of everything it was the funniest thing uh Tyler wants some of my take on well how do you say her name? chappelle roan chappelle roan so i saw all of this big uh to do when she played i believe it was glaston glastonbury somewhere in england a huge festival and there were hundreds of thousands of people what's one in chicago oh that was uh fall of bla bla bla bla bla bla yeah that maybe that was it that's yeah hundreds of thousands of people came to see chappelle roan and i listened to it and i go yeah i like i like it's it's again i'm 49-year-old man it's not really made for me but i didn't listen to it go good loo it's not like i when it first when i heard like florida georgia line or something i was like all right get me out of here i went okay i get it and i get why young women would like chappelle roan 100 percent yeah i mean that's not if i'm listening to this you're actually probably creeped out i'm concerned like hell yeah chappelle roan right so i'd be very concerned i uh but i i hey you heard the new uh chapel roan single what yeah you guys dig on chapel roan it's it's weird for a 49-year-old man i think to be into it but i i am aging out and it sucks because i i like to you know try to stay on top of things but i got the funniest dm yesterday from a kid and i'd say kid i don't know how yet i he's he's old enough to drive i know that because he's on a road trip right now he dms me a screenshot of don't look back in anger from oasis and he goes well excuse me oasis i was not familiar with your game and i go what you've never heard don't look back in anger oh he was in fact a kid yeah he was a kid because he was having and he goes oasis i owe you an apology i was not familiar with your game any favorite song he gives you one the biggest one of the biggest anthems of all time right and i so then i i go nuts and i'm like wow dude well check out this song in this song in this song he said i got another 10 hours of driving i'll be making my way through the discography and i said all right good for it like he he's doing what i what i don't do is i if somebody new comes out my automatic reactions oh this sucks it's auto it's auto uh would you check out this man that's terrible and i hate that about myself so i'm really trying to be more open-minded i'm listening to jelly rolled and i'm listening to chapel ron and tait mccray i didn't i just enjoyed her video her video is mostly hair like she's a lot it's a lot of hair on her feet does some hairstyle flipping and she's a great dancer she's very uh very attractive the microphone stays relatively far away from her mouth while she's performing so great dancer yeah but i just i just don't know i can't keep up i can't keep up i'm having a hard time keeping up with all of the up-and-coming trends and i i think that's just part of getting older you know and that's why i tend to go back to the nostalgia of the 90s in the 2000s there's another chick out there that uh Megan loves to listen to Sabrina Carpenter Sabrina Carpenter i listened to a little bit she's heard of she's like um kind of like a kasey muskree sort of pop star and uh Megan goes hey you know i'm trying to find tickets to she's playing uh sports arena pachanga arena in November she goes yeah i mean me and Vivian would love to go to that and i go okay let me look brother we're talking like six hundred dollars to get in the door to get in the door and then i went and looked like two hundred million monthly listeners on spotify go i didn't know this person existed a week ago and it's like seven hundred and fifty dollars for like the back row that's just to get in the door i'm like oh my god that's bananas is this what concerts are nowadays i think so well i mean look i paid 200 pounds to go see the biggest show on in england with that um yeah everyone tony says oasis sounds like lounge music in 8 1986 i mean yeah it's not it's not for everybody but it's for about 15 million Brits and irishman and welshman like welsh fryer um i'm really excited about that but i did think it was funny he's like oh man i i've never heard don't look back in anger before and it's really good like this is crazy getting old is uh is certainly a treat we got the skipper mike shilt coming up at nine a.m. poly's got a rindle report for us next and uh poly you got a story in here that i don't know that i fully agree with and i know one person that definitely disagrees and that's mrs. woods i can promise you that and i think mrs rindle disagrees as well and maybe most of the wives out there will uh but we will talk about that you don't want to miss this one you have little ears tell them to uh plug them up we'll be right back head of woods 97 through the van from the mind of a two-foot tall talking spokespuppet comes this year's biggest challenge it then yes all right well will you approve of this first one let's get an update on uh on on all oak had i had himself a day shannon sharp so many layers to uh this story over the last couple of days i mean where to begin i guess we can start with his latest endorsement offer and uh adult website and adult website wants a little bit more of shannon sharp they have made him an offer if he would like to join their team as an actor and as an actor you know you have to do some videos too high profile man hundred thousand dollars on the table for nothing dude i think he makes more than oh he absolutely makes more than that and you know he would lose all of the other but it's not like they say yeah go ahead for an extra right go ahead and do it yeah no problem i mean i i go to adam and i say i want to be an adult film star we'll go ahead woodsy but you can't work at 97 3 the fan anymore like you know i think i'd have to probably run by hannah first but but yeah i mean you can't do it but it's they'd always do that just say you would talk to adam before you talk to your one i ask adam first and then talk to hannah and say i have to uh i want to do this uh i i think the these those companies do that all the time yeah it's smart it's promotion so yeah there gets people uh in san diega talking about them on the radio adam said nice i saw paul pierce was very upset with the reaction from everybody to shannon shark because shannon shark is employed by espn now yeah paul pierce was employed by espn it's different paul pierce went live on instagram a little bit different he was playing cards uh had a bunch of people over having a big party and he went live and had like girls and thongs like twerking on him right behind him he knew what he was smoking a cigar i think it was a joy what life live wasn't it a joint might have been a joint like drinking out of the bottle like it was like oh so shannon shark goes live and nobody has nobody bats an eye he's going on the air again on monday but i go on instagram live and i need to like bro you meant to this is an accident shannon throwing his phone just throw he said i just threw my phone on my bed and it you know something happened oh man all right we'll move on uh and major league baseball and i i did not see this you sent this over about five minutes ago and i'm reading through it right now but i almost did it and don't do this yes and then it was at the end when i saw it so i didn't this is nuts major league baseball has uh made an agreement with straws straws and a German apparel company straws and they will have their name and logo on batting helmets that kit it can't this has got to be a fake post-season batting helmets through the 2027 season the ads will be five by 0.92 inches and will be located on both sides of every helmet i'm okay maybe i'm ignorant i have no i've never heard of straws i don't know what do they make they are they involved in baseball in any way by straws oh baby i don't know they dropped dunder it's just it's just mifflin uh straws st r a u s s and it i the mock-ups that they showed online was like a they used these like little kid batting helmets they put straws on the side it's not what big league helmets look like but yeah it isn't up there on the chat it looks white straws on the side looks very odd um i guess no big leaguers wear those helmets by way not one right i mean major league baseball is not gonna turn away opportunities to make a lot of money no and you see it in other sports you've seen you see jersey patches and stuff all the time it's somebody said fake is it fake i don't know i mean the ap report everybody's reporting on it yeah the league announced it today this morning so i don't think it's fake the league did it looks if it looks like that it looks advertising will be featured on mlb helmets during the beginning with the 2024 post-season the league announced on friday i'm all for making money mlb has reached a multi-year deal place the name and logo on their helmets in the high high performing workwear straws right breathable waterproof and windproof making them perfect for navigating tough weather conditions how does this make you feel i don't get typically in the weeds on stuff like this i just don't i never got in the weeds on uniform talk you know i i think that potteries uniforms are way better than they were but at the time i was like i don't care i want a winning product well a lot of people said to me and they were right what's he why not both you know what you're right it doesn't have to be one of the other you can have both and they've done a great job at it period the end it's phenomenal now but i look at this and i go that doesn't look right it doesn't feel right um i'm all you know throwing the Motorola patch on no problem none i have zero problem with it some uniforms are a little gaudier than others some of them don't look great i think the Motorola patch looks fine i have no problem with it i never i never did see a lot of NBA teams with their own sponsors on their jerseys but yeah jerseys one thing helmet it's gonna look weird it's gonna take a lot of getting used it really will and i've again i think it's also jar if it was like it's like pepsi or something i know i've heard of that i don't know what this is and i don't know how it really relates to baseball uh in any way shape or form but yeah it's it's they announced it teams up with mlb as official workwear partner and they are going to be putting those on the post-season helmets this year and i think it's going to look look a little bit odd yeah i mean you know when they play in in in like the Dominican league and winter ball and the mexican uh teams they that's what their helmets look like and you just get used to it yeah and like i played with i've played with plenty guys that play down in tj in the mexican league when they show up to play on our teams they have those pants and they've got like all the logos on their pants and it looks completely different and you get used to in about five minutes so i'm guessing it's gonna be one of those things in a few years we won't even remember yeah you won't even care and you won't remember and again i you know i i think it's i think it's good when your when your team can make some money i think it's a good thing i'm not going to you know crap on a team for trying to make some cash sure all right then finally proves in the old uh ill prep service yeah this morning looking for a third rinder report story and i landed on uh this a new poll from uh zip health found that's the average american says relations relations that's a good way should last should last a total of 35 minutes no oh it's always always wives since this is random she's weighing in so we know how she feels she says no so the average 35 minutes 35 minutes and that includes 15 minutes of four play we do 15 minutes exactly four every single day uh as it's 15 leaving leaving 20 20 minutes left and that means and of that 20 15 is you know the deed and five minutes of cuddling 35 minutes per attempt per uh session per round yeah per session what am i sting what do we it's a lot of time practicing tantra 35 minutes first of all 15 minutes of four play i'm not in seventh grade you know what i mean i couldn't i couldn't i could i'm not i don't have it in me to do 15 minutes of the kissing and fondly whatever that is chris in the chat sounds right 35 minutes so that means eight o'clock graduations to chris eight p.m. you start eight p a p m you start and you're eight thirty five you're like all right cuddle time's over huh i'd be surprised number stood out that seems like it seems very high amount of time i'm gonna go two minutes of four play seven minutes of the other and then when now there are some big cuddlers so like eight to eleven minutes eight to eleven total all in eight to eleven minutes and everybody leaves feeling pretty good i think exactly and i just think i've been married for 22 years that happens for zero minutes nobody has time for the the lead in i think for a long time 34 minutes too long maybe if we just go ratio wise they're saying the same amount of four play to actual right ish yeah one-to-one so roley says uh i just need a commercial break let's go that's it we'll see the team move of relations i don't know what that means what's team tv was like a really some it's like an amazon type marketplace online but not as good i mean i could probably you the thing is you also need a willing participant uh that it wants to invest that much time a lot of time my wife hopefully she's not listening if she is this is probably don't get up probably don't give 35 minutes a month total do you know how much a woman can get done in 35 minutes you know what's your man you know much of man can get done right a bit not well no it's an interesting it's a long it's a long time i'm gonna people polled say that's how long it should not how long it does last we're going on vacation how long it should stay in a hotel you guys all know about hotel anna got uh the mother-in-law with us so maybe kids can stay at night you know with them and i'll i'll test it out see if i can i'll see if i can go the exact but again 15 15 15 5 you also need a willing participant 15 minutes is a long long time yeah we've got an hour and 10 minutes left so we could go actually like twice in that whole time so thank you poly for that birthday edition of the rhino report we got the uh the skipper mike shilt coming up next gonna probably do um play some things that Ben likes because he's out of town uh should we revisit what we did to Ben earlier for those of you that may have missed it the prank i think we can do that okay we have you have that clip i do have the clip this was nine o'clock yesterday yep we were talking about benny and i said yep that's happening so i just texted benny benny just remember we love you he has not responded yet so he's probably on his way up to la right now so you guys will have to do it tomorrow at six a.m. where we will get to the bottom of what uh oh what we did pun intended for now let's move on before to get in trouble report yeah it all ties in you know it all ties in we'd like to bring it back and and put a bow on it but we decided to do a little prank on our beloved benjamin um and we found out where he was staying and we sent him uh an apparatus uh of sorts um for his you know solo time in the hotel and we we sent that over and it was delivered to his hotel discreet packaging discreet packaging and they actually put it in his room yeah just sitting there on the desk the dressed at ben higgins and he said he was very heavy he said it actually felt like dumbbells and he picked it up and he opened it and he said oh my god and he texted us a picture of it which we cannot post and said was this new two clowns and we said yes enjoy have fun tonight and then we talked to him uh this morning and called him and uh yeah if you missed it christmas says she has to go back for this um it did to get delivered he did open it he yeah we asked him if he attempted to you know try that gentleman does not kiss and tell and i asked him and i what i had not realized at the time was uh an offshoot of the prank was that was the prank and i was like i'm happy to have it delivered him open and go oh my gosh and then send us a picture be like you a holes whatever but then i didn't think well he's gonna be there for friday night saturday two nights and he was there last night so three total nights what did he do with it this morning when he went to play golf because people will come to clean his room you probably had to say uh no room service yeah you put the few you just that's what you do you put the dnd but you know Ben you know Ben he wants every he wants to squeeze every nickel out of a hotel you can get so he wants the room service the the bed made the room cleaned so that thing is in there as he's playing golf yeah what's he doing with that thing in 35 minutes it's 35 minutes it's a long time you don't have to cuddle that thing you don't have to come or for play but he now has to figure out what i do with it when it's in my room how do i get it out of here what do i do with it once i get it home can't bring it to the studio doesn't bring it home okay i think he does he said he was going to save it and and prank us with it later which is a great bit i was passing that around for the next decade would be a lot of fun all right that's the first thing turning up it not i didn't mean it like that i met just you know it making its way into your car or something so now he's got to get it home now he's got to find a place to store it without anybody finding out so that's what we did to ban if you missed it go back and listen do you think he uses it this weekend it's not in it niggas nodding i think he does it's not in him i think he does if he does it's a confession we'll have to get out of out of him at like the christmas and holiday extravigance yeah for real come on tell us tell us tell us tell us tell us so he he said uh he said that he's got it and he said he is we're going to bring it with him so i'm i'm so fascinated to hear how this all ends and this is a weird weird lead-in to the interview with the pottery skipper mike shilt which is coming up next decided to talk to shilty live from san francisco coming up next right here on your home for pottery's baseball 97 3 the fan see what the skipper has to say big big weekend huge weekend they're all big from here on out every single game talk to him about that and then some coming up next 97 3 the fan welcome back men in woods minus ben uh today just me and poly hanging out poly's birthday tomorrow or birthday show and uh how about this for a birthday present poly i'm going to i'm going to give you the uh the manager of the san diego pottery's for your birthday joining us now for the manager's report pottery skipper mike shilt brought to you by san diego county credit union it's not big bank banking it's better good morning skib how are you good morning happy early birthday poly thank you sir appreciate it yeah you just had a birthday and now you're you're celebrating uh up in in san francisco the the home stretch i guess as it were uh skip and i know you've been through uh i know you've been through these before i wanted to ask you we we heard from crony the other day and and he said we got to start playing our best baseball right now and it got me thinking a little bit how does how does the team ratcheted up you know for the last couple weeks but also not press at the same time it seems counter-intuitive but it it's certainly something that uh that you know guys feel the pressure of yeah you hope to eliminate that and um you know it's a great question and valid valid point um it's real um but really ultimately the balance is is just going to play and um getting lost in the competition being together which is group is clearly together and joys playing with each other and and just going out and playing good solid fundamental baseball and we we've been able to do that for good force of the year and just relying on what that looks like and playing the game the right way and executing and you do those things you throw strikes you make routine plays you do the right things offensively include running bases and uh you know we'll feel pretty good about this yeah for sure uh and you got a nice shout out in ken roseenthal's piece he just wrote in the athletic and and the piece was really focused on general manager aj preller but he was talking about you in your tenure uh here in your first season with the pod rays and he talked about how much you love to teach the game and then he actually had it in caps ball talk he said for his ball talk sessions and we've talked to plenty of big leaguers we asked them adam jones and brett boom we asked them shilty about you know what what it used to be like oh man after the games we'd sit around and split a case of beer and talk about the game and guys just don't do that anymore it sounds like you've got guys that are more willing to do that uh this season talk about it with you tell us if you could about your your ball talk sessions and uh was that kind of important to you when you took over i want to make sure these guys are in there talking about their craft every day yeah i think it's super important um you know for whatever reason it i don't want to minimize it i do think guys do talk it just does maybe a different way of doing it um you know they're a long days for the guys uh after the game they pretty much get out of there they get on their families which is which is good um or just get away which i think is healthy as well but you know to the point you may there's not as many you know just sit around shoot the ball sessions but i do think guys are having more at least our group and i've been really pleased that or having more organic baseball conversations you see it during the game yeah all the time the most pleased about is that in-game communication what do you see and how do we make adjustments um you know we do that and talk about the game prepared properly you know really i can't really i can't i can't ask for much more but you know the ball talk just a setting that i've done for gosh since i started based you know coaching and managing 100 years ago i just feel like it's important that um that we we learned from the previous night you know we just got through having an experience individually and as a group um what do we take from it uh and then what are we going to do to prepare for the day's game based on either last night or what we know about the intel we have for the for today's game and um you know that's just a continual improvement mindset that you know we just want to continue to be better as the series goes and the season goes and you know it um i think it gives our best chance to compete talking to pottery skipper mike shelter on benham woods this morning and you mentioned that we i think it's been noticed a million times on on social media this year you know even many will many will strike out but he's walking back to the the dugout grabs zander and whisper something is here zander gets a hit you know and and zander does it to crony crony does to this guy and that's been something i think you know i don't think we've seen it here in a while and there is there like you said there has been a ton of that in-game communication going on and it just you know listen i know um the baseball season can go up and down and you can have a hot streak and then just kind of a a regular streak that all teams go through but it seems like that mentality has been there all season long yeah i think you know it has been it's it's not an easy one to cultivate i plot our players for for doing it um you know you get in a real-time competition and you know something doesn't go well in that moment you know there's a frustration that rightfully players can have and you know might take them a while sometimes take some you know a couple of baths to get over this group we're able to refocus pretty quickly and stay present and and it's such a such a good teammate man to get through with having a bath that may not have gone your way and be able to come over and be able to share something that um can help the next guy and so that's that's just been a real positive for us and an asset for us and how we compete and been a big part of our we uh have been able to have success it's uh the management report here with mike shilt on benham woods this morning you know we were i was looking at the lineup the other night it's obviously always great great sports talk radio fodder you know uh you get down through the oh you you get jacks and marrow out in the seven hole and then you've got donovan salano there in the eight hole who is just a killer i mean fells off two strikes and finds his way on base most of the time and then you got a catcher like kali gosh yokas got 16 pops this year uh is he has more than 16 hours he had 16 i can't remember i just threw that i i just threw that out of my head sounds right but you got you know a guy that can do some damage there at the bottom and you know none of that's possible without zander bo guards uh mike moving back over to short stop so everyone wants to prognosticate read the tea leaves does that mean with zander going back to short is hasan kim do you foresee him maybe even being able to rejoin the team and if he does does he go right back to short stop how does that work in your mind um yeah we're still um you know in a you know wait and see a little bit with kimmy's arm um you know he hadn't recovered as quickly as anybody would have obviously himself included and um but you know today wouldn't say that had a step back necessarily he didn't take the next step forward and so um you know we're still trying to figure out with him what what he's going to be able to do um you know as far as when he comes back um you know i think it's short stop i mean there i guess there's this scenario you go to second base um that that could be possible i suppose but i really you know based on being able to make a relay throw from even second make turn the double play um you know him having his arm strength so me important regardless of position he's not such a good job sure but never really anything out but right now we're just trying to see see the possibility of getting back period well and and it's interesting too because we we made this point yesterday on our round table that typically in years past there haven't been and not a knock on these guys at all but there haven't been the guys on the bench that you felt i gotta get them more a b's i just i gotta get them in the lineup and i think solano is has been one of those guys and and david peralta is another one like you want to make sure you get that guy a chance to swing it when you can which is again it's a good good problem for a manager to have but it's certainly a lot to reconcile too sometimes yeah i mean um there's only so many spots it's uh it's interesting when you either have an alfield jam or an x-ray player or two that you know it's performed well and now you have somebody come back from injury or you just have a deep team you know and rightfully people are like oh what that guy in and like and like who's expense right right it's a great it's a great you know we had this conversation a couple weeks ago and uh you know there's um you try to pass the ball around put them in good positions you know peralta get an opportunity today um you know you have success against web so but um yeah you know bogey moving over is created more opportunity for dawn in the last few days for all to the day and the link is a lot up for sure uh talking to the skipper mike shilt here on ben and woods this morning so we got 15 games left to go you know the the way that it times out you got every every one of your starting pitchers gets what three more looks what are you is the skipper looking for uh down the stretch from these guys because i i'll tell you every time all of them actually uh take the mound i feel confident and i see really really good stuff i don't see a ton of fatigue or anything like that sometimes you have those funky innings like like joe musgrove had the six minutes you know other than that he's been phenomenal so down the stretch everyone's going to get you know a health assuming three more starts uh skip what are you looking for from from your guys your your five guys in the rotation yeah nothing different than i've looked for we look for all the time you know and uh yeah i'm the same with you i feel good about every guy that goes out there confident in what they're doing and um you know but really same thing regardless the first game you know hundred game hundred and sixty second game whatever the game may be it's just uh going out and making sure you establish counts and um control control you know this strikes them with multiple pitches and and uh give us a chance to to win a ball game that's that's all you can ask and and pretty and i see the same thing our starters are in a good place you coming back that was really encouraging how he was able to kick into a gear about the third the other day and um but i i feel good about our starters you know we got sees going today but you know the ability to go out and uh control the zone throw multiple pitches in the strike zone for strikes um you know have good rhythm to what you're doing and and uh give us give us a good chance to win a ball game it's all you can ask you know and somebody that watches him pitch all the time and and and of course talking about you and and rubin the abler Dylan ceased to me remains one of the most fascinating pictures of baseball and and looks you know number one starter uh type stuff when when he struggles and you can see him kind of get frustrated out there on the mound what is it with dylan is it just a command thing is it a rhythm thing uh that you just mentioned yeah i think that's right similar with about every guy and dylan included so just not quite feeling and saying not getting the ball where he wants to uh he's got two absolute plus pitches like you say number one quality stuff um but it's just you know regardless of picture it's about being able to to put it where you want fairly consistently um and be able to make a quick adjustment when it happens and um you know dylan's been great forces here and kind of excited to see him fish tonight so one of the guys that caught dylan cease and caught his no hitter is is louise campusano and i read your quotes uh earlier in the week heard you talking about campy and again we had the same convo as it pertained to matt waldrin you know campy was you know he got hurt he got hurt and he stepped up certainly and then and campusano did not perform probably the way you guys wanted to or expected him to and and he expected himself to uh that conversation had to be pretty tough sending him down and what do you guys expect from louise you know getting sent down to uh to el paso what would you like to see from him yeah you know you think he kept you pretty well um tough conversation clearly for campy um there's been a lot of growth take place with campy over the last really two years but definitely this year he's taking us over the next steps that we're looking for him to take and um you mentioned the injury the thumb they you know put him on the aisle for a little bit of time and you know he took advantage of his opportunities played well and um received well and did a lot of things that you know obviously swung the bat and did a lot of things on the plate that were real positive and you know campy wasn't able to get as much time again so he didn't have as much chance to play and get his rhythm so you know to catch 22 that we you know we talked about laurie which is in general but um you know he we got Diaz which we have a lot of confidence in as well got it's you know experienced guy in the league that um we just looked up and the three catchers they're wasn't as much need for it you know we could hit for him have another guy come in that's one way we were using you know some of the sauna one for all to piece when they went play in which thought was effective but um you know once we decided to go with bogey and move him over to shore didn't see the need for those guys to be using that way and not as much use for the third catcher so um you know out campy go down and get some more more playing time talking to uh mike shields here last one for me uh skip so we've we've asked all the uh the baseball questions so you're in san francisco we had a debate earlier poly thinks now i i said i we know shilty pretty well he he had he had chipotle last night on the night off and poly said no i i think he got i think he got a bread bowl down at the wharf and i said there is no way when in san francisco he said that you're a when in san francisco guy um well let's say yesterday i had a watch at the um at the restaurant in the hotel um yep and then last night and i got a haircut yesterday nice i was really exciting and um yep then came back finished a book and got some room service had some chicken wings um and and fries really really got after it made good hey listen it's the it's the it's like the playoff run i mean i've been watching the team eating i'm not hungry i just eat because i get stressed and you can't really be eating in the dugout i wouldn't think so you got to get your you got to get your junk food in when you can skip i'm actually coming up tonight with my family the first time i worked so the first time at oracle so excited to come out watch c's throw and hopefully uh be able to get to logan web and and win a ball game tonight and we're we're excited about the stretch run i know you are too yeah i'm for sure guys uh looking forward to tonight and stretch run and uh again happy birthday poly enjoy and uh we'll talk to you later thanks so much skip we'll uh let's get a dub tonight we'll talk to you next week all right that's the skipper mike shilt joins us this morning brought to you by san diego county credit union it's not big bank banking it's better there you go happy birthday i got you a birthday shout out from the skipper of the san diego potter's mike shilt did you ever think that that would happen to you no and i i'm sitting in i'm sitting at a table with north turner last night poly look at us we made the big time mama we made it we made it all right so uh listen we can uh react to mike shilt's interview i love what he had to say seems pretty locked in seems pretty focused um but you know obviously got to see got to see what happens these next 15 days we'll be right back it's been in woods 97-3 the fan i was reading last night welcome back to been in woods 97-3 the fan i was reading last night about that run that that mike shilt's cardinals had 17 games in a row they won and of course i let my mind go to what if this so b goes and does it again 15 in a row to end the season oh my god can't think that way certainly um i'm not a huge math guy at all but i i do look at it like you need to win you got 15 games i mean obviously a 10 and 5 gets the job done gets the job done no problem and i'll be honest poly as much as i say you know oh i want this and i don't want to be the fan i don't want to be like you know the guy that's playing golf right now that goes well i mean it's bad i'd like to i mean i want to win a world series but i i'd rather win one at home with my favorite pitcher on the mount bro it does not matter to me i never thought i did not think i mean i know we won a world series but what does that set us up for in 2028 god shut up i feel like we've really exhausted all our resources now and i mean you say you won is enough but is it really enough yeah man we can all drop dead tomorrow so i i don't want to get too picky here as someone that that remains surprised surprised that we are in this position i gone to my head beginning of the year would see are you guys going to be talking playoff baseball ramifications in september mid-september i would have said no we're not do you have poly remember the predictions we made at the beginning i see do you have those handier can access the dimensions yeah like the next 30 seconds or something i think we posted them on instagram i i got i put it one great it wasn't great i think i put the pottery second but i said i'm putting them second because i'm a homer and i said like that's why i'm doing it yeah you did i did okay and dodgers potteries giants i'm in backs rockies i thought the debax would definitely be hung over from the world series and they were they were for a while Corbin carol was hitting a buck 60 and then he took off you had potteries in four item third third yeah i had him in third uh and that was the reaction to the trades all off season that was i had the giants actually in second because i was with you on the diamond backs it's like a little hangover last year kind of seemed a little flooky they have proven that that was not a fluke season at all nope i thought the giants with all the additions that they made bob melding manager he was gonna be all fired up now matt chappen i'm like that's a pretty good team yeah that's a pretty good team um and i was i remember feeling and saying like look i would be elated to be wrong and i'm going to be wrong which is great one of those times in sports radio we do it still finishing third they could yeah i guess they could have diamond backs let's not let's not get crazy yeah they absolutely could um what had been happened second ben had them second well his dodgers in first place followed by the potteries giants diamond backs and rockies okay give me the central and elle central what did i have you had cubs nope brewers yeah cardinals reds pirates okay and then what about the uh the other one the east you had the braves okay the fillies yep the mets i had the i had the braves over the fillies yeah uh we all did but we all had the braves and fillies one and two you and i had the mets third ben had the marlin's third that's a homework pick up the skip shoot marker yeah you and i both had them in third third place and then the nationals in last easy one there yeah interesting uh interesting stuff it's gonna be exciting but i i i really believe that it's not it's not because of where i work it i really was and very surprised that this team is is where they are and i'm very thankful for it i'm very happy for it uh it's going to be a lot of fun it's gonna be a lot of stress uh certainly but it's gonna be a lot of fun this is what you beg for if you're a fan of a team i mean imagine being a fan of of the nationals or one of those teams here yeah we've been there we have been there it was it's not long ago either not fun at all i mean last year when what did they finish to end the season like 20 and seven or something something the same run i was i've never been more mad in my life to have a team when 20 out of 27 games i was i was livid and there was a a fingernail's chance of hope uh towards the end it was like oh this team's got to lose and they got to lose and the tiber and i just said i'm so mad like the season was on life support i'm like just pull the plug man let's get this thing over with and rip off the band aid and for them to be where they are now man it is a true testament to all of those those guys at that organization because it's been a lot of fun and yeah it could absolutely go south it absolutely could i don't think it will but um this is what you beg for certainly i have people in the chat so i'm i'm doing my um my first trip to oracle and somebody said woodsy when you go to san francisco tonight you got to be loud and you got to be obnoxious and i said i can't do it i i'm gonna i'm gonna wear my potteries hat certainly my kids are gonna be all but i got my kids there my wife there my mother-in-law my brother-in-law i'm not trying to fight a san francisco giant fan i saw that brawl out in gallagher square last week and it looked one like one of the nastiest ones i'd seen it giants fan apparently giants fans started it of course that's what i heard you know that i i we we finished it potteries fans finished it out in gallagher square quote mike shill they started the s we finished it they started some s we finished it alcohol may have helped yeah that was nasty out there that night so yeah there was a poor security guard standing there like uh like what can he do i mean it was a full-scale brawl but so i think tonight um no i'm going to be pretty chill and blue mean he says that look that's what giants fans do here i get it man but i'm not doing it around my kids and um i'm just i'm really curious to see how long they make it and by they i mean me uh so we'll see i heard it's going to be like freezing cold and uh we're sitting out in we're sitting out in right field i'm sitting on right field we're going to be able to see tatiz uh assuming he's in there tonight 65 that's actually pretty much too bad on the water it's a little chilly so i'm not going to get i'm not going to get rowdy out there i might try to um try to hook up with our palino serus i think he's going to be in the ballpark tonight if you're out there at at oracle and you you see us walking around feel free to say hi i would love to say hi to you uh but yeah i'm gonna it's fun ballpark hopefully the kids will will have a good time and everyone's fired up for it i i don't get to many new ballparks because we have a really really great one here it was funny i was last night at at the dinner i was sitting with uh chris conley who's the director of uh of marketing for the pot raising goes hey tell me what you think about oracle he goes because i always hear you know number two behind pecco and i said all right i will ask jesse agler what his thoughts were on oracle he said it's great part they could do more to spruce it up a little bit more i said okay well i'm fascinated to see i'm fascinated to report back um but yeah my kids will be there they're more gangster than i am certainly so they'll be in their potter is here they may be the one starting uh some s because they've been known to do that from time to time we got one segment left uh we will get out of here turn it over to annie and elston and uh we will be right back benhamwood's ninety seven three the fan final segment of the week benhamwood's ninety seven three the fans been a uh been a good week been a long week but a fun week and a not so fun week it's been both it's like uh life goes up and down uh last segment of the day annie and elston will be up next breakdown uh for you all of the exciting numbers uh that go into the last two weeks of the season poly what's the um would we would you we all agree that the white socks series is the worst one for all of us because i i do feel and and correct said this yesterday on the round table and i i did agree you can't lose a game to a team that's one thirty three games to this point i mean you just can't afford to drop one single game and those it wouldn't feel as bad if this was played in june or something yeah but having it right here in the middle of stretch run every game is so important it's no you feel like you know it's a lot to ask for any team to sweep any team i wonder how many times the jot the white socks have been swept this year i think it's a lot gotta be a lot it would be a ton of the math tells you it's got to be a lot and i i you and again man i think that those are the ones if i was a player right now for the san diego pod race i would look forward to the challenge of playing the astros you know what you're going to get you're going to get some really really tough baseball uh and and you you're up for that challenge when you get to the the white socks who have won again 33 games this is unbelievable it's absolutely incredible and you cannot afford to drop one single game to those guys that's the series i'm they've been swept 23 times in three game series 23 sweeps that's un that you have to now you have to make it 24 you have to if it's not already if it's not already close to 24 by the time you get there i mean it's a the schedule makers again yeah i thought you were doing this a solid you gave us maybe the three worst games the worst team at the worst time so i know i'm probably a bit of a don't worry warts about that because again they are the they are the worst baseball team i think i've seen in my lifetime every night they show them i'm watching sports center or something i go oh my god i mean some of the some of the worst baseball IQ plays i have ever seen in my life from guys that are veterans man they are that they've been playing for for six seven years in the league so that's a good idea i need money says got to get steven wilson on the show i would like to talk to steven poor poor guy we talked to him for the first time at spring training and the hopes were so high and he was like such a great dude not much longer before he was like a it was like a week later he was uh he was traded and he was part of the dill and sea steel of course happy to have dill and cease here on the potteries but holy smokes man yeah somebody says we need a mole yeah i mean i i bet you you want to talk about a guy that's ready for the season and is steven wilson i bet i bet every one of those guys are it's at this point it looks excruciating i mean and i don't know i don't know how you i don't know how you don't just got that team and just start like completely over i mean really like as many moves as you can make uh to bolster your farm club and all that it was so and that's the thing is they didn't go into the season thinking oh this is going to be some massive rebuild they spent money on guys like andrew benattendie and and players like that they did not trade uh some of their their their names that they could have and uh it just it's just been a an s show so um yeah i would would love to talk to steven wilson was not that long ago man the white socks from the same trajectories the podrace yep that was the tv baseball that was the oh 20 23 world series white socks look like podrace versus white socks man it's crazy oh so that that series is going to happen what next week uh next week astros and and then white socks and that will be the last home stand of the year so yeah last chance to go out and and root on the boys uh until the playoffs start and you know again i can earlier i don't want to be weird like that last game on sunday next sunday against the white socks like i sure hope we see you guys again yeah want to see you guys again this year i mean nothing's gonna be nothing will be short up by then well you will still be waiting to see are we gonna get the four seed the five seed even the six seed like are we hosting the wild card around well it was like i was saying earlier i don't want to be the picky fan i just at this point i want them to get in you know i have my preferences certainly and that would be to play the wild card game here uh around podrace fans they've earned it you know we've earned it everyone's earned it the players have earned it but now you have a chance to go out and get it so you have to go get it and if you don't i'm not going to be disappointed if you're playing in Arizona i'm gonna still be watching the games we may even try to go uh to that series and figure that out but of course i want it here but i'm certainly not going to be picky i did not think this is a playoff team they're going to be they are going to be a playoff team this year so yeah beggars can't be choosers as chances it's exactly right and and i do think the expectations of this team have changed uh dramatically since the trade deadline and all the pieces that you traded it was what made me so frustrated whether it was this week or last week when Ben was like you know well at the beginning of the year everyone would have been so happy i wanted to throw him out the window because i said yes yes you're right at the beginning of the season or even before spring training we're all yes we would have signed up for this a hundred percent just to have a sniff at the playoffs but dude i'm like expectations change over time over a six month season and and you get through the first half you make some big trades you go out and get guys like luisa rise dylan cease like all that happened well after any of these expectations were made like bro things change and i think and now this is a team that i expect to go not just get into the dance that's what i want for they got to just get there but my expectations are higher than just getting to the dance and i think uh taking a limited in the wildcard round it will not be a successful season at luisa said i think he had that frustrating take so we'd all be okay with a little Ben break and if he did that then he's he's a bigger genius than i give him credit for because i did think he said all right well because wasn't his hypothetical if they win 90 games but don't make the playoffs are you happy and i looked at them like like are you kidding you're joking even and then he said but nobody expected him to win 90 games we all thought 90 games would be enough and i said ben no no maybe you're right maybe he did that maybe he said hey i'm going on a little golf trip i'm going to make everybody hate me for a while and they'll be they won't be mad when i leave i think that's that's false um but yeah i i i that was a frustrating take i i i think let's get that on record no one in this show will be happy with a 90 win season if they don't make the playoff right right what are they what are they at now 82 82 yeah 82 and 65 so to win 90 games there go eight and seven that's i mean that's like bare minimum of my feel you have to get to that now dude i know 82 and 65 uh yep so yeah you still need eight more eight more dubs which again you have 15 games ago you got to go eight and seven you got to have a winning record and they haven't been playing their best baseball right now they know that and uh it's gonna be really interesting to see how it it shapes up we got logan web tonight we've seen logan web a hundred times they've seen dylan sees this is uh this is a big big series in san francisco and i i don't know honestly what san francisco has to play for other than let's continue to beat up on the san diego potteries when we can just took two or three from us and i i at bob that was another frustrating ben take but he said well i would bob melvin want to beat us we're the ones that let him go and i'm like bro he absolutely wants to kill us he wants to destroy us he wants to destroy us uh every chance he gets i don't know what he was on that day i'm like i'm starting to believe that he really did want to just split town and not make anybody miss him when he was gone but we do miss ben ben will be back monday we'll have a lot man we'll have three games to break down from the uh the giant potters we'll have an entire slate of the uh nfl and college football season which we have not really even mentioned today uh Aztecs are going to be taken on cal i think cal's 18 and a half is that right 18 and a half points favorites um i i don't know how that one's going to go i'm not sure if daniel kneel is going to play or not fulfill yet on that one will fill you in on the nfl but really it's going to be it's going to be 99.9 percent san diego pottery's talk on monday because this is uh everyone's locked in of course so you're only going to the game tonight not tomorrow we're only going tonight we're doing uh the game tonight and then we're going to go to alcatraz tomorrow very excited about that for i went once it's going to be great excited of the boys they're so excited dude bo is watching alcatraz documentary on his uh his little ipad he's asking me all these questions about the guys that escaped and you know he watched a special about all the sharks that are around there so he's looking for sharks he's really a curious kid so he's super excited taylor is is terrified we're going to leave them there i don't know what would have given him that idea they have really great merch in the gift shop at the end such good words and then like the orange jumpsuits that they sell oh yeah hundred percent everything anything they want they have the alcatraz baseball field which they're both going to love um so yeah man they're excited for the boat ride over um i i'm excited to just i like san francisco a lot i've only been one time had a great time uh jh 619 in the chat wants to know if i'm going to be watching the Notre Dame game saturday nope nope don't have to 1230 against perdue no sir i will be at alcatraz with my family which would have driven me crazy had they beaten northern illinois i would have been like oh i'm gonna find a way to watch this game now don't care they gave me my saturday's back so early thank you need ben's uh ultimate college football lineup correct i didn't need it i won't be watching man i got i got family uh family plants i i would much rather be doing that than watching stupid football game for a stupid team that does nothing but continues to break my heart every single year yeah it's really really great really great uh we got some things that ben likes pretty soon we will get to that after our last check of traffic i like the tanginess of the cranberry i like reflecting i like all-time rock and roll too you know i do i like and i like my standard very uninteresting haircut i do like hearing people talk about how well it's going for the pod race i like numbers oh i like the bits i like to be educational i like when i get up have a glass of cranberry juice cocktail i like add a major i do like butterscotch i like your tweets a lot i still like this deal i like to live my life after another famous benjamin benjamin button i like when the pod race take two or three from the dodgers i would have liked to have tried something else i like daren i've always liked daren i like watching labron and anthony davis sex by the fire at night that's what i like i like j kronoworth the last couple of days i really like to swings i do like horses i like the pod race lineup i like when things just flow perfectly but i like indian food i just like a good honest answer i've liked what i've seen from donovan salon and so far i like that idea i like 18 games in 18 days you know i like where the pod race are i like that we want as a team i do two of us together i like to picture people actually in a recording studio i like the way the pod race played baseball what i like is the variety of the wings yes i liked everything about this week did you ben because it seems like that you took off and then to l_a_ in the middle of a pennant race did you guys probably did you hear the round table yesterday i heard a little bit of it poor chrysello is getting he got murdered on the round table yesterday he's uh i think today if i'm not mistaken i think today is his last this last day okay i didn't hear this part he's go i think he's going i i don't want to speak out of school here but i think they said oh maybe crag remembers cragger is elo going for two weeks or one week two weeks so where's he going he's not going on cruise uh with his wife and so we're on the round table and and it got brought up and then i think everyone stopped down and they said hold on tomorrow's your last day and there's two weeks left to the sea you're gonna you're leaving for this run and then so you asked me earlier would you would you fast forward to be he's just he doesn't have to literally doing that he's literally doing it and uh yes Annie did a phenomenal job hosting the round table hosting the round table is a is a massive challenge i would never do it never ever ever ever he looks forward to it he loves it won't take suggestions says he wants suggestions but i've given him a couple of these but like no i think i've had time i think i've covered that or whatever and he crushed it but elo's go so this dude is getting on a boat and i think he's leaving out of alaska and they're going like all the way around and they're going to end up in like cape cod or something so he's gonna miss that it's weird i i like damn tucketer like he's gonna go like around the world yes like the ifs myths of something works so i go i go are you kidding me and he's like no he doesn't see only time we could go and i go all right i and i if ben did that i would have beaten them i would have beaten them with a stick can you imagine so i don't know i don't know what's going to happen i'm assuming that now adam has to like do stuff you know because i think like scravian tony will host and then maybe adam has come and run the board adam is a great boss he will do things like that for you to give you your time in but two weeks the last two weeks and i i wondered if i was i think i was jealous because he doesn't have to be here through it he's gonna be on a cruise and he's gonna be watching he's a huge you know sports fan he's gonna be paying attention certainly but that dude gets to come back when it's all over and then saying this is this is where we are and i said holy cow man so i yeah somebody asked if he's going to the north pole i i don't i don't know how else you can get around how do you is there is there a way from last good go north north and around yes i don't think so i think it's like the arctic circle are you sure yeah because i he's not going south up there i don't know i didn't hear the part i didn't hear where he'd explain where he was going so i i don't know i think a lot of those cruises usually go south north i swear to god he told me he was they were going north maybe crag remember the elaskan ones will start and end in elaska i don't know what you're talking about they're ending they're ending on the other side of the world or the other side of the country maybe there's a plane involved because i don't know how else you can do that are you know when they see greenland like when they go all the way there's not nobody goes to greenland there's nothing there didn't jump must go to greenland north you might say in arctic that's right is that north or south and arctic that's south i'm not good with geography it's a south pole oh the south pole i don't know oh my poles well i think i'm i think i'm jealous of of chrysello getting to miss the last so he's this is how we find out chrysello is secretly saying a clause hold on any any are you out there is it just you is he going north you know i'm very curious about this something right now correct he's going to miss the last two weeks come on in real quick come on in come on it because crag heard it and his ears perked up and then my ears perked up and i said i said you're going to wake up and this is all going to be over the last two weeks crag elston what is your mid-ditch what is he doing he's killing he's killing so probably said would you fast forward the last two weeks to get them like oh yes 100 but he's actually going to do it yeah good on him good on him good on him i know that it hit you know what i'm up you remember he said it was going to finish 81 and 81 yeah he's just planning on the team being out of it at this point so he booked and nobody caring right i'm just teasing you chrys i know it's completely out of your control and you didn't want to do it but we're going to give you a hard time right now oh you have to chrys chrysello more like chrys cringle uh santa's at the north pole yes the north i told you i'm not good with this stuff dude why didn't open the door again he's out of the north pole yeah crag you guys and arctico which is that north or south i don't know where joe must grow point that's okay i thought he went to greenland greenlands north north and greenland is ice right mostly so it's really if you went up that way it'd be very cold iceland however is quite green quite green crag uh crag elston joins us for the last minute of the program what do you guys have coming up today we got Bryce Miller coming on at 1035 to talk about the new six pack uh and try and get some sense through the whole thing yeah what's going to happen with the pack six yeah yeah that's going to work on at the six pack all right but i like that better but you guys have a great show we'll be back on monday we'll wrap up this series hopefully uh talking about a couple at least a couple of wins for the san diego potter is happy birthday poly thank you poly and hannah you
