2. Texas Easily Improved to 3-0 on Saturday, but it came with a cost. Star Quarterback Quinn Ewers left in the second quarter of its 56-7 win over UTSA with an abdominal injury. Ewers went down after a non-contact play, getting checked out by team trainers before leaving the game for good. He threw for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Texas coach Steve Sarkisia told reporters that he didn't think there was any structural damage with Ewers' injury. Ewers became the betting favorite to win the Heisman after leading Texas to a dominant victory at Michigan last week. But his absence wasn't a problem on Saturday. Highly touted redshirt freshman Arch Manning filled in for Ewers with ease, throwing for 223 yards and four touchdowns on just 12 passes. He also ran for a 67-yard touchdown. Texas takes on Louisiana Monroe next Saturday. In other college football action, No. 1, Georgia needed all four quarters to take down Kentucky, beating the Wildcats 13-12. The Bulldogs actually trailed for much of Saturday's game until they took their first lead in the early minutes of the final frame. Staying in the SEC, No. 5 Ole Miss blew out wake forest 40-6. No. 15, Oklahoma was in a tight battle with Tulane before pulling away 34-19. No. 16 LSU overcame an early 17-0 deficit to defeat South Carolina 36-33. Elsewhere, No. 18 Notre Dame got its season back on track, dominating Purdue on route to a 66-7 win. No. 9 Oregon defeated Oregon State 49-14 in the latest edition of the Civil War rivalry game. Washington State also got a last-minute stop to defeat Washington 24-19 in the Apple Cup rivalry game. Standout wide receiver Marquis Hollywood Brown will miss the entire 2024 regular season due to his shoulder injury, ESPN reported. Brown had surgery on his dislocated shoulder joint and was placed on injured reserve Friday, ruling him out for at least the next four games. He suffered a dislocated sternoclavicular joint in his shoulder in a preseason game on August 10th. Brown was expected to play a big role in the Chiefs revamped wide receiver room. Instead, they'll have to rely more on second-year wide-out Rishi Rice, first-round rookie Xavier Worthy, and veteran Juju Smith Schuster, who rejoined the team in August after being released by the New England Patriots.
