Love racing, dot-n-z-ed, your home of Thoroughbred Racing. Gosh, it wasn't that long ago we were saying, "Where's all the racing this week in?" And we only had a couple of meetings to talk about. Well, Alfred Taylor's with us this morning out of HQ down there in Wellington. And I've got a feeling come Sunday night, he's going to be looking for the pillow because we have got, I can tell you right here and now, there are five meetings of Thoroughbred Racing in New Zealand starting at Madamatter today in around about, well, an hour's time, almost just under an hour, going right through to our Poonie Synthetic and in between times new Plymouth, Rickerton to Rapper with a massive jumps card as well. Thad, you have got a busy weekend ahead of you to say the very least. Good morning Ian, no, you're not wrong. I've been pouring through form for the last few days and still haven't got to the bottom of it. So, absolutely good to see this racing, good to see a big Sunday. And, obviously, highlight by the Grand... Sorry, the Great Northern, Stickle Chase and Hurdle as well. So, that's going to be fantastic on Sunday afternoon. Just when you think you've got through Saturday, yeah, they throw two meetings on you on a Sunday. So, that's exciting stuff. It is exciting. We'll get to them shortly. But it does start as I said in just under an hour's time. Seven races out of Madamatter. I do quite like Massacato resuming in the last for the Tiac, our team with Opion Boyd. You've got it around about 3.30. Yeah, absolutely. And, look, it's gone and again, it's $3 now Massacato resuming. Opion Boyd, I can tell you, the money's on Ian. So, that's always a good sign. You know, they were the Tiac, our stable. When they back one, they'd never fire away or they'd never fire for the mark. So, obviously, Massacato does look like it's going to be resuming with the win. That's certainly what customers are telling me this morning. Couple for you, Madamatter, race number one on the card. A whole school midnight monarch for Stephen Ralph to kickstart your day in race number one. It's been very well back currently sitting at around $3.00. Stephen Orchard, I'd just say, not Stephen Ralph. That is a midnight monarch in race number one on the card. Alan Sherrick tricks one up there to Madamatter called Grutt in race number two. They don't mind backing Alan Sherrick at the best of times, it's smelly. But they had put the money on around Grutt in race number two. And a big shortener on the card is actually in race three. It's an all-school Bonnie Gem, Debbie Sweeney trained, Sam Sprettaboard. A couple of seconds and it's two starts. We opened $12 customers said, thank you very much. We'll have a piece of that, $5.50 currently. So, there's one on the first three races for you. And as I say, the one you like there in the seventh, Madamatter Carto, resuming for Tiacao is also being well-backed. Well, if you look at Alan Sherrick at Madamatter, you've got to look at him in New Plymouth. And that's, of course, where he's based. And you might not even go much further past than the first horse in the book to say which he's got a lining up tomorrow. Yeah, exactly right. $4.20 for Tiacao. Yeah, it does look a talented galloper in the making. Just, yeah, $4.20 currently, I'm just scanning down that page. This isn't even feel, but certainly it has been well-backed. Look, it got a nice, we'll put in a nice form one together. It's been well-backed at all at start, but two, the second last I'm out, one before pride of that and likes to track as well. So in a short career, certainly looks a promising type does to say. So that'll be one, and the other one that they obviously, that we need to highlight is the horse that got him 1,000 winners in New Zealand, Alan Sherrick. And that's just asked me looking to go back to back in the second of the day, one of the main races there, the 1,800 metre brand lab handicap race number two on the card. So just ask me, he bought up the 1,000 for Alan, 1,000 training successes for Alan Sherrick. At his last start, he gets a very similar set up here. He'll get a wet track, but unfortunately, we will have rain about on the weekends, so he will get the wet track that he loves. And he's $3.50 and second favourite in that race by and diamond jack, but he has been well-backed just ask me as well. Well, there's an interesting point that you've brought up, a wet track, and a very interesting runner in race five in Mustang Valley. Yeah, very good. Yeah, absolutely smithy. Yeah, this is the horse that will relish a Mustang Valley resumed in the Foxbridge plate. So one of the leading sprints to start the season for all the sprinters. And then by past the Hawks Bay, they got a very good track last Saturday for a Tarzino, a good for bordering on a good three, so probably a little bit too firm for Mustang Valley. But they will have their eye on the second big race there at Hastings in a couple of weeks time, the Arafield stud plate, but Mustang Valley will love it. We won this race last year and put up some fantastic numbers around it. It will get a very similar track, get a very similar setup, get the claim as well to get its weight down because it does have a big weight card as it should with the quality of horse that it is. So look, it's performed very admirably both sides of the Tasman Mustang Valley. She's a quality mayor and she has been, we did an open fail. We opened Hayo Ses by my slight favourite after who, when Fong and Nui, but the customers have said we've got the wrong favourite, we've been corrected in Mustang Valley now, favourite race number five. Now that we want to keep an eye out for it. If there is a little bit of rain about Hawks Bay, not what I'm wishing that to be, the case from a personal perspective, Mustang Valley will come right into calculation in that second leg which we'll see in a couple of Saturdays time. - Before we get down to Rickerton, anything else at New Plymouth that takes you fancy? - Yeah, let's have a look here, Quid, a Quid in the seventh race of the day. The longest flat race in New Zealand in the 3,210 metre road to the Jericho, which is a big race in Australia which they race over in South Australia, the road to the Jericho and the winner of this gets automatic entry to go to that race or compete in that race. Horse called Quid, very consistent horse for Kevin Meyers. Lily Sutherland aboard has been very well back there around $7.50. Just looking for anything now, I did see one, I guess Meyers is a little wisp before you. Ian and race number four on the card, John Wheeler's got a horse first up called Herbert. And it's $4.80 currently, well it wasn't $4.80 when we posted the price, it was $7.50 and the locals have climbed and Ellie Sol takes 3 kgs off. $7.50 to $4.80 for John Wheeler, so the locals often perform very well on their home track. Taranaki and the customers are testing, nothing will change, come tomorrow afternoon. Right, let's get down to record. And of course, and there is a time on an event here, the Canterbury Bell Stakes, $80,000 where it's a listed race. Over the years it's had some pretty handy winners. The Victress, having won, it's a resuming start, is at the top of a fairly even market. Yeah, there's $4.20 around the Victress currently. But Tearkal play a big hand, they take a lot of these fillets down now early to compete in the like for these races, with an eye to the 1,000 guineas, well half an eye to the 1,000 guineas, which we run on that track a little bit later in the season. So yeah, the Tearkal play a big hand, but obviously the Victress after what we saw from her resuming over a 1,000 metres will be awfully hard to beat, but Dream of the Moon trialled up well about last night. I chased home the Victress at its last start, but generally a guide around the Tearkal stable will be where you see Opie Bossen, which also be Bossen chooses to ride with all the weights being equal, and he has gone the Victress. So that's the best guide you can get around the Tearkal runners, generally speaking as of which way's Opie gone. So the Victress has been very well back there, but joint favour in the race is called Diablo Blanco for Richard Diddham. It's going for three in a row, it's resumed very well. It's up and running, so it's got a bit of residual fitness, and looks to be a big chance at around $4.20 as well. But as you say, there are many chances. Resire for Tony Pike, he had a big weekend last weekend at Hawkes Bay. He's hit the ground running this season, has one Tony Pike. I'll be keeping an eye on him very closely, as it was called Resire. In this race, it's fully resuming. Matt Cartwright aboard, fresh off a Group 1 win as well. The Aussie Jockey from last Saturday, Matt Cartwright. So he can do no wrong either, so watch out for a Resire. But I can certainly tell you that the Victress has been best bet in that Canterbury Bell stakes currently. And that's race number seven on the card. Right, let's get to Sunday, because it really gets interesting there, particularly if you're into the jumps side of things, because we have got the Great Northern hurdle, the Great Northern steeple. And there's also a $50,000 mile with some fairly good horse flesh in that as well. Let's start with the jumps. Berida Cash carrying 73, Ned won 71, a match race. - So Tiger might have something to say about it. The other MacDougall Nelson runner, Ian, but look, Berida Cash, let's start there, because this horse has just been defying all the odds and just continues to win. One put on quite in Champion status here, we'll probably get to horse that we could almost put into Champion status in a minute, but Berida Cash has been extremely good this campaign. It's just had to be seen to be believed over the last stages. At one stage, your $1.70 was looking a little bit suspect. He ended up winning by two and a half lengths running away from them over the 4,200 metres to Berida Cash. But he's been a revelation so far than the last season, and he continues on as winning weight as Berida Cash. It's a $1.90 to win that Great Northern there over the 4,200 metres. But yeah, the Nelson MacDougall pair will have something to say. I need one on his day, a very, very good jumper, and a better effort last time out at T-Rapper. Behind a stable mate, and Tyka, who made quite an impression today, won very well indeed. So yeah, they're the two that look to be the biggest dangers, but Kevin Myers might have something to say with the likes of a visible spirit, and also Rudy lifting it, the horse called Montventou, who does look like a bit of a talented jumper in the making. It'll be great to see Berida Cash go around. Ken, the Nelson, Paul Nelson, Karina MacDougall stable, have something to say about it, well, remains to be seen. But he's a deserving favourite, Berida Cash, and you'll love seeing these grand jumpers continue to win. And it's interesting, Fred, because talking about grand jumpers, some people are starting to put West Coast, of course it's the favourite, the hot favourite for the steeple, in the very, very best bracket. We're talking Hunterville's here, we're talking some wonderful jumpers over the years. The managers to pull off the great Northern with the 73 kilos. Where does it rank? You've got it almost on back a bit on the back 50, it's a multi-horse. Yeah, yeah, the multi-horse, and speaking of continue to win, I mean, this horse has done it all. And he was crowned champion jumper of the last season, no surprise to anyone our last Sunday night at the horse of the year, Woods was West Coast, and more than deservingly so. So, as you say, look here, he is being mentioned in the upper ratio lawns of the greatest jump of the whole time. You touch on Hunterville, the likes of the tyres who won three great New Orleans. But he's right up there, and continues to win. And it's one of the grand national down at Caring 73 kilograms. He just does what good horses do and just holds them off and keeps winning. So, he's a dollar-fifty. Look, I'll jock, chase them in that race. There's only a length away at the end, but, well, some old jockeys out there around $7, but as you say, a dollar-fifty looks and multi-include does West Coast, and I just hope for jumps racing in general and racing in general. There's nothing that brings eyes to racing and interest in racing more than champions Ian. Look, probably in any sport you can say that, and so West Coast is in that bracket. And so, he's hoping continues on as a winning way. It comes Sunday afternoon in the Great Northern Steeple, and for it is no reason he won't be. OK, right. Our pony synthetic is courses. Eight races there, starting just after midday. But really, I thought it was running a bit short on time. I really like to touch on a couple on Australia. Jolie Starr, we're ridden by Kieran McAvoy because James is headed down to Melbourne. And one of his interesting rides is via Sustina. But Jolie Starr, with a foot to mind in the shearico tomorrow, and then has the Sustina. Yeah, look, I mean, Jolie Starr resumed one impression she made. It would have been quite a tough choice for James. He's probably got a thought around via Sustina and a Cox plate and the likes. But, yeah, yeah, well, what we saw from Jolie Starr are resuming. She's a potential superstar in the making. We as a Cambridge stud, because Brendan and Dolan is Ian. Are we talking Everest or the likes of Jolie Starr? One would suggest we've started to talk about, you know, the Everest being the top sprint race over there, a slot race where people choose the horse. They won. Will Jolie Starr make that fair? Well, me and suggesting that she will. And what we saw on her resuming run there last time out at Randwick had to be seen to be believed in an absolute counter and won by three links. So she's a $1.80 favorite to win that shearico. That's a group two race at Rose Hill tomorrow. And the other race you're referring to is the McAvoy diva via Sustina. It's a $2.35 favorite, but one over a short of her best resuming. And she's got an eye on the Cox plate. She steps to 1,600 meters, which will be right up here. Allie. And, yeah, as you say, you follow Opie Possen around. Well, it's a pretty good lead when James McDonald's trekking down. It's obviously a group one, but he's made that decision to stick with via Sustina. And it's a pretty good lead. The interest in the race for me sits around Pride of Jenny, who they've dropped in this market out to $7. She was a superstar last season. There's been a heap of talk about her resuming run when she did fade late to not feature. And now she's out there at $7. Can she bounce back up against Mr. Brightside as well? Pins dropped in one net race last night with Pride of Jenny. But Pride of Jenny, very interesting runner. And that McAvoy diva via Sustina, a $2.35 favorite. Bad Taylor, you have a wonderfully long weekend, but hopefully not so successful because if you're successful, it's a fair chance you've got plenty of mine. So I just had a good weekend, put it that way. Have a long weekend, none of the least, thank you. Yes, that Taylor with us out of HQ down there in Wellington.
