It's Friday Friday Thank God it's Friday This free keep Friday This is Bear's Friday Friday Friday Chicago Thank God it's Friday This is your morning routine Listen to respect my name Captain G Hood That's right, that's right we're back Uh uh uh Watch the show on Twitch Follow ESPN 1000 Chicago Stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app And on ESPN 100.3 HD2 and on ESPN 1000 Chicago No no no no David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood Good morning everyone Thank God it's Friday Bring 'em out Bring 'em out Bring 'em out Bring 'em out Bring 'em out Whoa Oh Welcome in to the Captain G Hood Morning Show On ESPN 1000 and we are streaming on the ESPN Chicago app With David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood with you, we got you We got Jaymore, we got you For a three hour ride on this, Bear's Friday With open phone lines for you, 3-1-2 3-3-2 ESPN, 3-3-2-3-7-7-6 It's our telephone number And the cap is gonna take place on Saturday Night Football From the nation We will see the Bears And the Texans Of course, our coverage starts at 7 a.m. on Sunday morning You could hear the game right here exclusively On ESPN 1000, cannot wait cap It is the second game of the season There's some good things and some questionable things we saw in Game 1 Time to clean up for Game 2 on the road Big spot for a rookie quarterback And for the Bears It's a great opportunity Every game is a great opportunity But this one especially saw on the national TV Your offense wasn't good last week It's a great opportunity to take a step forward Win or lose I want to see the offense play well I know our defense is legit They're going up against a hell of an offensive football team But I was in the car yesterday listening to the Waddle and Silbie Show Some jackaloon called in on the show I'm not a b- talking about me I'm not a Bears fan because I picked Houston In a tight room, what did I tell you it was going to be? Only 723, I don't remember what score I said And I'm going to, I'm on here because I'm honest I'll say things that maybe some others won't say But guess what, I'm going to always give you what I think There's no party line here Come on, what are we doing? Go in there and play a hell of a football game I don't know if it's going to be good enough That's a really tough ask Really tough That kid is a hell of a quarterback They've got a great left tackle They've got Nico Collins and Tank Dallin Dalton Schultz and Joe Mixon And then they've got Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter On our defensive line You've got a lot to clean up from what you did last week But again, I'm excited I can't wait for Sunday night football It's a great opportunity, whatever happens Well, as far as that caller is concerned I don't need to pick your battles But I will just say this You're an adult with the mortgage You can be the most ardent Bears fan And also see the forest for the trees at the same time Because there's a perspective with all of it Look, if you're not into perspective, that's fine I'm not going to tell you how to fan But you're not going to tell me or tell you how to fan We can look at both sides of it In that you could be the biggest Bears fan And hope that the Bears can beat the Texans But nothing's guaranteed in this league That's correct This is why they have these big buildings in Las Vegas It's because nothing's guaranteed When people are betting on the NFL They think they can go perfect in their picks And then work that way So what I'm telling you, Cap, is that Hey, we can look at this team and say You have a rookie quarterback You have a first year offensive coordinator With the Chicago Bears and Shane Waldron You have a head coach that's trying to get better As far as leadership And play calling, all of it, right? And so what I'm telling you is that It doesn't make you less of a Bears fan Because you think that the Texans are a better football team Because you know what? Texans are a better football team Right now they absolutely are Because that's the reason why I can say that as a Bears fan Now the question and the reason why we have these mics open 15 hours a week is To be able to determine how the Bears can get the job done And so the Bears will win against the Texans if And let's fill in the blank here as we move forward this morning The Bears will win against the Texans if They limit turnovers to one Not telling you you're going to be a completely clean football team for 17 weeks That's just not reality You turn it over multiple times You're going to lose That's just a fact On the road against that group But you play a clean football game And you're able to establish the run I can't say that's more strongly You've got to be wedded to the run first If you throw 48, 52, 55 passes You're done The percentages are overwhelming You will lose if you throw the ball that much You have got to be able to play clean Run the football and stop the run You do those three things and guess what? You've got a really good shot Doesn't mean it's guaranteed You've got a really good shot Because then it allows you to use play action It allows you to get Caleb on the move And oh god They just hit DJ Moore for 40 yards That they gave up two Two plays the Texans a week ago to the Colts In excess No, sorry, it was three Three plays in excess of 50 yards Take some shots Let's go I want you to take a look at the Bears Since they've been on the field on our TVs Whether it comes, whether it's preseason Or the first game against the Tennessee Titans cap You know what we've seen We've seen a half of adversity One half of adversity for the Bears so far this season I want you to think about that You're right That was the first half of the game on Sunday Otherwise, it's been good time, Charlie And the lampshade on your head And defense getting after it And the good vibes in that locker room and on the sideline One half of adversity And they found a way to win the game against Tennessee Now, what I would tell you cap is So, if it happens on Sunday How do you handle it? Like Caleb Williams went through adversity the entire game He did And he was just like, oh my god Will Cass Gore touch down? What's going to happen? The offense is It's constipated Nothing's working right now for this offense But as far as the team is concerned It was just that first half Could not move the football The Tennessee Titans had a 17-point lead And the Bears came back In this game on Sunday One of my questions is If they go through adversity How will they be able to handle it? Meaning that If CJ Stroud gets off And they were able to score a couple touchdowns Especially on the road for the Bears How will they be able to handle it? Because it's been pretty much smooth sailing Throughout Correct Now, big road test Against the playoff team What do you want to do about it? That's all I'm looking forward to seeing Yeah, the question is If you win the coin toss Do you take the football And say, we're going to try and drive this thing down Use the run Use play action Maybe take a shot down the field And, oh god, we're up 7-0 Or do you say, I want the ball Coming out of second half Because If you don't stop them on the first possession Now, you're 7 in the hole You're like, oh god, here we go Now you get stopped And you're looking at a major deficit That is an interesting question How you would handle that At home to Tennessee Okay, I'm good with that Take the ball in the second half This one I might take it first I would put my best unit on the field first That's defense Yeah Anyway Because, cap, I want Because I trust my defense More than anything else on this football team It doesn't mean that I'm dissing Caleb Williams Or the offense at all I just know my secondary is opportunistic I know that my guys can get to the quarterback Or hurry the quarterback No matter how dynamic CJ Stroud is I want to make a statement first Quiet that crowd First And then when it comes to the offense We don't know what I want from Caleb Williams When you got the ball I need you to take your time Because in college When you watch Caleb Williams Man, I can get this done in two plays Big rainbow throws I'll pass interference Punch it in for a touchdown Because that's college Every Saturday Like We'll get this done in three plays Take your time You're talking about running the football, right Running the football You'll see more Catches with a tight end A cold commit You'll see a few in the rounds here or there But take your time No matter how long you got to take It's you on the road You want to wear down the Texans Don't feel like you can get it done in five plays Because you want to get off the field Take your time score Agreed Totally agree with you Again DeAndre Swift feed him Feed him You don't have a 366 pound Tevandre sweat in front of you Got a good defensive line No question They got a good team Stay wedded to the run Let's go Let's go So for me I would agree with you With running the football Utilize your weapons Take your time off the clock This will be a cold commit This won't be a cold commit game But he's going to Obviously have More targets And more touches In this game than he had the last Yeah and I'm not even worried As much about how many Targets he gets I need him in there with Mercedes Lewis in the run game Gerald Everett's not the best run blocker He's a good receiver When we're going to throw Calls a better player than Gerald Everett Use him in all those ways But he's a really good blocker Let's get some hats on hats And let's block And run the football first I want to see more from the Bears defense as well Because as I said If it comes down to coin toss And the Bears have the choice I want the Bears to be as strong Or stronger In this game as they were Against the Titans I went and watched Some of the Brian Callahan Comments from the other day I found him online He literally said If we would have punted on first down Every possession in the second half We want to know If that isn't a shot at your quarterback I don't know what is Folks if we department the football On first down Every possession in the second half We want to know I'm sure that I'm sure that's in Caleb Williams No tap Because he keeps all the hate there All of his tweets And all of the negatives Yeah he holds it all The Tennessee coaches said We have them Yeah That game was ours We just Get wrapped in Some thoughts from Shane Waldron The offensive coordinator for the Bears Who's talking about the Bears And the Texans Our game is a Sunday Right here on ESPN 1000 Let's get right to the meet of the matter cap Right to the heart of the matter Let's do it About Cole Komett Shane Waldron talks about Komett's snaps are lack thereof Against Tennessee I would piggyback right off of that Because you know Cole is one of the top tight ends And the league He has a great job for us He's done nothing but the right thing Ever since I've been around him So just that's more on us as And starting with me of getting The reps you know a little bit Balanced out but it also goes back to Playing efficient football And when we're doing that You know not getting tilted out of some of The ways we wanted to go into that game Okay Fair enough Yep Fair enough I appreciated his honesty yesterday At the podium They asked about Why was your five best offensive players Personal grouping wise Offends online not included DJ Cole Komett Rome Keenan Allen DeAndre Swift Why are We looking at situations Where all five guys were only on the field for 10 plays Yeah I think just in terms of the flow of the game I think you know starting with me Stuff we can do a better job of Coaching is getting us into a better rhythm And I think we get into some of those games Where we were in a little bit of a Up and down rhythm throughout the course of the game Some of the personnel Pairings that we were looking to get to I didn't really play out the way we were hoping to As far as the course of the game And there's You know it's going to be tough each week Obviously to have a perfect Distribution of everyone's reps right there But something we looked at And talked about As a staff of how we can do a better job To help our guys in getting that rotation And getting the guys out there Together a little bit more often See is what I've been saying on a long cap This is his first time with the Chicago Bears Even though he's been through the film And the training camp and everything else in the preseason He's got to get comfortable too Yeah no question about it And I appreciated his honesty there I really did We've talked about it as a staff And we have got to do a better job And get our right our personnel grouping right Thank you That's all He didn't come out in the well It was the flow of the game And that's how I called it Next question Yeah No, there was no arrogance It was Here's the deal Yes And again He talks about the staff And he says it starts with me Because he's the head coach Of the offense Correct So he I totally understand I understood at the time When the game was over And you look at the box score And look at the amount of targets And it's like okay He's got to get comfortable And understand what he has on the field He's got to put his best players out there This game coming up on Sunday The adjustment will be made It doesn't mean that he's a boob though Because we got some of that on Monday and Tuesday as well It's like The reason why Caleb failed Is because the play calling That's just the lowest hanging fruit in this city To blame the offensive coordinator When the offense does not work The everyone has to work together For you to be able to have the production that you want Correct We got to stop with this low hanging The fourth grade fruit that's out there Of saying well If they didn't score It's definitely on the offensive coordinator It's on the players too That's correct The players would tell you that That is correct You don't have to continue to coddle the players Every time the team underachieves or loses It's all of it I'm not telling you Luke Getzi last year's guy Was great But to everything was his fault No When Justin refused to throw the ball When guys were open over the middle They're all culpable Both things can be true Like the Jackaloon yesterday Who it was funny Shae put out the poll question Is soup overrated at the cap man Think so XJhood, ESPN Think he's being ridiculous Five dogs said Both things can be true here at the same time It's true Cap's ridiculous And soups overrated Could be Yes Just saying I think that's accurate I'm good with that I don't know what that does to be at the ballot box But Exactly Not sure Would you like to vote for a couple of people At the same time on the same ballot Well, I like this and I like that Can I vote for both? I have that policy But not that Yeah, you can't do that Frank's choice In this economy No shot No shot So I'm looking forward to Sunday night Look I love Could you hear from Jesse Waters over there? Exactly That's good Thanks Jess We got Cornaki on the board in a moment I love Friday Why's that? Because we're going into a football weekend A B) tomorrow I get up I get my coffee My wife and I go to the farmer's market It's just a good day There's college ball on If you want that There's baseball games that matter If you want that Just hanging with the family And then Sunday Brett and I are locked in We're on that couch Watching football all day and night Can't wait It's just a good Three day You know Part of my life I love it I think it's all of our lives Cap I think that's all of us Yeah It's a football weekend Yeah, but even if it's not Football If it's May I love Do the Friday show with you Whatever we're talking about Going into My farmer's market And my this And my that Yeah, it's great Love it 3-1-2 3-3-2 ESPN 3-3-2-3-7-7-6 Is our telephone number Shay, let's open the phone lines this morning And talk about the bears This is our last time That We could talk to you about the bears And their matchup against the Texans Of course, you've got Carmen Yurco and Welland Sylvie And Blacknubdala all day But I'm just saying This is the last time That we could talk about the bears together As we get ready for their matchup against the Texans How can the bears win Sunday night against Houston? Something that you saw Or did not see last Sunday How does that translate into Sunday night against the Texans? So let's have that conversation And still to come More from Shane Waldron The offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears Cap and Jay Hood Week day morning 7-10 Okay, it's about that time You tuned in to the Cap and Jay Hood show Everything ain't hardcore, you know On Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago Thank God it's Friday That's right It's a Friday morning here on the Cap and Jay Hood morning show On the ESPN 1000 And streaming on the ESPN Chicago app Here's hoping that you're gonna have a great weekend 3-1-2-3-3-2-3-7-7-7-6 Is our phone number So let's come some thoughts about To a Tungal Violoa We watched that game yesterday With the dolphins and the bills To another concussion And we'll talk about it About his future This hour right here on Cap and Jay Hood We've been talking to you about the Bears though Can the Bears win Sunday night against Houston? I laid out that for the Bears It is about running the football But I'll solve the defense Because the defense I thought when it had to In the second half was stout Definitely stopping the run At times Also being opportunistic Being able to turn over The tight and several times And on route to a victory But this game against the Texans Will tell a great story Because it's on the road That's one thing But for the offensive side of things I just wanted Caleb Williams To utilize his weapons well I mean you got a tight end You got a wide receiver It's all there We've been talking about it all summer About how Caleb Williams Has so many different weapons To utilize Now he's got to be able to execute And get them the football But as far as taking the pressure Off the young quarterback Definitely running the football's Paramount for the Bears Because again It's not about trying to score as quickly as possible It's about quick strike offense What it's about is Is being able to get comfortable in the offense Every now and then Against the Titans We were able to see Caleb Get into a little bit of a rhythm But it's so few and far in between Because after a couple of really nice passes Then he's overshooting the receivers Or he's getting sacked Or getting hurried or pressured So again the hope is For Caleb is to get into a rhythm For longer stretches To be able to finally knock down six When you get those opportunities Like the one where Keenan Allen's Opened on the left sideline You can't miss those Oh my goodness Think about how different the game would be Just think If he hits either that Or DeAndre Carter Or Keenan Allen catches The dime that he throws In the front left corner of the end zone That was a great pass Right there in his hands Bam he drops it Or you don't fumble a kick Which I appreciated Richard Hightower At the podium yesterday He was awesome I mean just talk about honesty I like the weight Again It's one week into the season Things could change I just thought The coordinators I heard from yesterday On offense and special teams Very honest Very And that's good That's what I appreciate All right 3-1-2-3-2-3-7-7-6 Is our phone number How can the Bears win Sunday night Against Houston Let's go to the phone lines And talk to you Huntsville, Alabama Listing on the ESPN Chicago app Here's Jesse On the cap and j-hood morning show And Jessica morning Good morning guys How are you? What's going on here brother Man I uh I've been a Bears fan for 40 years And I don't see the offense Turning it around anytime soon Unfortunately Why? Um Mr. Bisky Um Justin Fields I don't see Caleb Really getting into his own And passing for 250 300 yards Plus 2 touchdowns or more And so at least a week 8 or 9 Why that arbitrary number What makes you You know feel that way I know Mr. Bisky He left here years ago Justin Fields He plays for the Steelers That is what they did Has in my opinion You fan how you want a fan That has zero impact on Caleb Williams Being a Bears fan It doesn't matter the coach It doesn't matter the quarterback It doesn't matter the offensive line The offense always stinks And I don't know why Because we've never developed a quarterback Hoodie's been here his whole life I've been here my whole life We've never taken the time And developed a quarterback I just I understand that I just don't understand why we can never No matter who we draft Or who we get Every quarterback sneaks I'm not saying Caleb sneaks at all I'm saying I'm not I'm not giving him any time It's a week 8 or 9 Where I expect him To be fully you know like Okay He's calmed down He's got a grasp He's got the speed up to date The sins of the past Has nothing to do with The present or future of the Chicago Bears, Jesse Because if that's how you feel Then for your own mental health You probably shouldn't watch Bears football Yeah, I guess I'm just saying No, I'm with you I got to see it to believe it fellas That's how I am And I've seen what I've seen week one was terrible But what I what we're telling you is Is that Whatever happened in the past Has nothing to do with Caleb Williams in his future You see If you are a longtime Bears fan as you say You know the difference between this regime And the previous ones Because the previous ones They even have the infrastructure They even put in The type of players To support a quarterback Well, look at our offensive line now, Hoodie He's later at supporting that quarterback They're not But we talked about that all summer Like we had Tom Thayer on And we use his expertise Because he's an offensive Every Thursday Thayer Thursday Thayer said that it coming into the season was a C And then after the game We asked him yesterday What do you think you offensive line? He said C minus It's not going in the right direction That's for sure It doesn't mean that that's the way that is Jesse for 18 weeks All we could do is just watch week after week And just see how it develops One way or the other Yeah, it's going to write a great story And thanks for the call, man Have a great weekend It's going to write a great, great story Look, from Jesse's stamp, Jesse I think is a microcosm of a lot of Bears fans That listen to our show every morning Because some That are watching this team Every year They're saying I've seen it all before I've been hyped over this quarterback Or this regime before And I've been let down And by the way You have a right to feel that way However Hope springs eternal When you take a look at what the Bears have been able to put Around this quarterback Compared to the last 20 years And compared now The quarterback and the weapons Before it was just Here's a wide receiver Here's an offensive lineman Look at the Everything that Ryan Paul's is done To be able to support this young quarterback It's totally different Whether it's Rushing a guy on the field When you said you're not going to That's Ryan Pace with Mitchell Trubisky He's not playing the whole first year Guess what week five Money and I football get out there Because John Fox didn't like Mike Glennon Nobody liked Mike Glennon But guess what You weren't going to the playoffs You should have left Glennon out there And let that kid develop That didn't work Matt Nagy Justin is not ready He was correct Uh we got to get him in there And then you put that horrible game plan together Against Cleveland He gets sacked nine times What are we doing here? Jay Cutler Who again, I'll save for the thousandth time I didn't like him as our quarterback I'm not a Jay guy At all Had never was From the day we made the trade You also gave him 64 offensive coordinators 16 different quarterback coaches You gave him his number one receiver Devin Hester or Johnny Knox I mean how about adding some talent here Then you finally go get Brandon Marshall Who wasn't great in the locker room We've had players tell us that Like our guy Lance And you never supported him with a great offensive line Other than all it It's clear the support that's there for Caleb Williams Now it's my execution We have every right to question When the execution's coming Hopefully it starts on Sunday against the Texans I took my family to dinner last night I told you you got you guys this before the show My little three-year-old started preschool Where do you want to go for dinner If you have a good day at preschool And actually he sent my son sent a video I want to go to Main Street Social in Libertyville We love that place So we went Go up there Had an awesome time And who walks up to the table Brian Erlacher Erlacher in town for a golf tournament And we talked a little Bears football He's excited about this team He's like dude This is different I'm excited by that quarterback I'm excited by that team 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 Is our phone number more of your phone calls coming up How can the Bears win Sunday night against Houston? Captain I gave you a couple of bread crumbs On what we'd like to see What do you want to see? Want to see the Bears go 2-0? How do they do it? On the Captain Jhood Morning Show Checkmate 1-6 Lamium suppression on target That's why I see him in my shot Shot Or no shot With Captain Jhood On ESPN 1000 and ESPN Chicago at That's why I see him in my shot Good morning and welcome in To the Captain Jhood Morning Show On ESPN 1000 And streaming on the ESPN Chicago app With David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you Now time for shot or no shot We've got Courtney Cronin at 835 To give us the latest on the Bears But first, here's Shay Norland, Shay Good morning boys on a Bears Friday Sunday Night Football Bears and Texans Coming up this weekend Full slate We get to enjoy Red Zone with the Bears on an island It's going to be great how we feeling We're very, very good Thank you very much Excited man Let's go Another beautiful weekend weather wise I believe We'll find out from Tracy Butler at 9.50 Look forward to it I'm trying to figure out the game Of the 12 o'clock slate That you're interested in the most That you'll keep your eyes on Shay, when you look at this Is it Vikings 49ers? No Is it Packers Colts? No Lions Bucks That's it Probably Yeah Yeah I think so It's a Fox game Go circle that to see Again Baker Mayfield Play-off rematch And the Lions Yeah I think that's the one you circle right there I think that's going to be the key match For me, it's the Packer game I want them to And again, I don't wish any ill will The Jordan Love I hate seeing guys get hurt Wake up and find out what it's like To have a crappy quarterback Good luck Wake up Like the rest of us did For decades Oh God Who are we got out there quarterback? Jonathan Quinn, Mitch Trabisky Whoever it is Oh You don't have Aaron or Farver love Take that I want them to suck on it all weekend Going this sucks That's the game So uh You like the Packers, Shay? We'll find out Find out in about 15 minutes When we go through the picks Alright That would be Cap's biggest nightmare Caplin Suck on that Was it off? Malik, well this goes out and throws for three touchdowns At 295 Yeah, I'll be sick Yeah Here's Shay Norling Alright, don't I I want to start with Ryan Paul's He talked about one of the worst moments Of his professional life Over a job that he didn't get Take a listen One of the hardest moments I had Was not getting the Carolina job That was my first interview And I thought it did really well I prepared really well I was You know, you kind of fill in the zone When you go through the interview process It started with Zoom And then it was in person It's not talked about much But you come up with this philosophy Based on your experience And you share How you want to go about Changing this organization And put them in a really good position And when you don't get the job You go back to your old job You've already mentally put yourself In a leadership position Especially in the GM job And then you have to go back To the old philosophy Where you basically were like Alright, I took these good things From what we do now I don't like these things So I'm going to toss that out But you got to go live in that And you got to be supportive to Your group It was the first time I felt like Mental health Disappointment Frustration Like I had a lot of that When I returned back To Kansas City And it was eye opening And it allowed me to start to put Structured together An executive coach Clinician To tap into To express some of these feelings That I was going through Because I didn't feel like I was a great teammate To my group When I got back I was more angry and frustrated Because, you know I had this great plan And now I don't get to do it The other thing is My agent challenged me to say Hey, where are your blind spots? So you look at your interview And you obviously didn't know Everything The things that you felt like you felt short on Let's go attack those It just the personal growth And development process kicked off And it was always there But it took another step for me Where I have to go find answers And things that maybe I don't have in Kansas City And that didn't allow me to have the answers To those questions I got to go out And figure those things out So from a performance standpoint From analytics standpoint I got to go seek That information So that I have answers And I can put a team together When I have the opportunity to There you go Ryan Polls on the personal toll He took From not getting the job In Carolina Shot or no shot Ryan Polls nuked The Panthers franchise out of revenge Um That's personal pride That's a shot I don't think that's number one on the list But I think that he takes sauce And the fact that Yeah you know I'm running the Chicago Bears Probably lucked out One more time And we need to think about it He's with the Chicago Bears Carolina That ownership He actually is in a much better spot No question Things happened for a reason I'm going to say no shot Because whoever he was doing that deal with For the number one pick He was going to nuke their franchise Because he had multiple teams coming after him Does he take some Revenge factor Where he's like Yeah take that That it was them? Certainly he's human man You get turned down for a job You want to beat the people that turned you down But I think if he dealt with the Saints Or the Raiders Or the Seahawks Or the Rams He was going to nuke whatever franchise It was Because he had the number one pick Here's my side of it though Because I think the revenge did play a factor If he's doing the deal with the teams you mentioned He doesn't have the inside knowledge on their operation Potentially that he has with Carolina And he also doesn't have the little added motivation To really stick it to them Carolina he would know Having gone through the process Has a lunatic owner and David Tepper And probably knows the GM at the time Sean Fitterer a little bit I think he was like Look I've got other offers I can trade this pick to anyone You are who I want to work with And I'll stick it to you a little extra Because you didn't give me the gig Absolutely There's a little personal pride with that And luckily for Ryan Polls That he's with the Bears Because he was with Carolina He'd be out on the street Here's Shane Orley Because his owner would have overruled him And said you're taking breaks Yeah, absolutely And you're giving up a fortune for him I'm just saying Shane that He has full autonomy with the Chicago Bears He's got a clean slate that even Jerry Angelo didn't get Clean slate And end dealing with George McCasky Which is totally different than dealing with Ted Phillips What year did Jerry Angelo join the Bears? I was in the late 90s or early 2000 I think it was late 90s Because 2000 I'm going to look Because people forget We didn't have a GM Till Jerry Angelo got Did not have a GM Nope Which is just insane He joined the Bears in 2001 2001 Through 2011 So he was here 10 years You know people won't believe you When you say that They think it's hyperbole They're like What do you mean they didn't have a GM? They didn't have a GM They had one Jerry Vanissi That was Didka's guy Mike McCasky Rest in peace Fired him Out See you later. Thanks for coming And then He was intimately involved in the day-to-day operation Like he was a lousy version of Jerry Jones As an executive And then finally they got so much He had Mark Hatley, Rod Graves Good guys running personnel But they weren't the GMs He was So that's horrible That's something So you know I would say That is the shot Of regarding polls All right Jay what else do we have? And Matt Iberflu Talked about his confidence That Caleb Williams is progressing So the progress is there He also said the first three Or four weeks Will be a learning experience For Caleb just to learn What the Bears' offense Wants to do in any given situation Get up to speed with the rest of the NFL Three or four weeks Shot or no shot Iberflu set a timeline Four weeks And we'll see it from Caleb Williams That's a shot Sooner than later Yeah he's a good football player man And it's going to take a little time I don't know if they're going to win on Sunday But yeah Four weeks I'd better see progress Agreed Fair enough Jay Concussion aside I want to ask about Toa Because last night Before He got hurt He was terrible And that might be in poor taste Because of how the game ended But it is what it is He threw three interceptions The pick six was atrocious You're pouring the facts And I'm wrong with that It was awful He also made big news in the off-season Big splash financially Became one of the five highest paid quarterbacks in the sport He also joined some of the highest paid quarterbacks in the sport Who are very disappointing Early this season Including Trevor Lawrence Joe Burrow Of course Deshawn Watson As the price goes up It feels like the caliber of quarterback Weighted against how much they cost That gap just keeps getting wider Shot or no shot The quarterback market Is a bubble that's going to pop Uh that is a shot Got the owners are going to get tired of paying Insane money for mediocre play They're going to go No Not doing it You know Dak Prescott puts up huge numbers Earns his contract Great But they are not going to give the Danny Jones And some of these other guys Who are less than stellar quarterbacks They're not going to pay him Okay well then Fine You don't have to pay him But you know what? Then you got to start developing better No doubt I mean I'm serious now Like if you're not going Because this is you know Dak's got his money And two has got his money and all that Danny Jones got his money All right fine So if you're not going to pay through the notes for the quarterback And you want to be able to pay for quarterbacks At a lower rate Then If you can't keep them Then the next guy in the pipeline has got to be ready This is the problem with this lead cap Is so many really good quarterbacks Are getting paid a lot That's not getting you to the Super Bowl Okay so From college to the pros You just can't say he's our backup And he's expendable No You have to take solace in the fact that We have a quarterback that we like That's our backup And he's going to be the next guy That's how it used to be That's how it used to be Agree So if you don't want to pay You know Big time salaries to quarterbacks And you say Well I can't pay that Well then Why's your backup sucks? Why are they? Why's your backup so bad? Because you don't develop your backup Correct That's why the Like the Jayhawk Our boss The Jayhawk Danny He sent us a text last night After two got hurt Yep Could you trade Beijing down there? No Absolutely not I got a Beijing locked up for this year And next year Like 900 grand Like nothing In NFL terms And he looks like he's got a chance To be a pretty decent football player And then actually maybe even better than that Why would I do that? Now that's Tana Hill And he's waiting for the call Yeah Go back to Miami Yes Have Tana Hill do what you want I would extend Tyson Beijing I would In this league We see guys get hurt all the time I need him Knows my systems Well liked in the room Looks like he's a player I would extend him this season There's a number of teams We could look at this Actual football league That don't know what they're going to do Next year with the quarterback And one of them is like Pittsburgh Justin's not the long term answer And neither is Russell Wilson So what are they going to do? Anybody in the pipeline? You tried with Kenny Pickett for a year That didn't work So what are you going to do? Well we'll just find someone from the scrap people We'll just put them in there for a year No Develop a quarterback Have a system and develop your quarterback And then when it gets to a point Where you don't think you could pay them Have someone else in the pipeline And get that ready Correct That's why I was glad they brought Austin Read back on the practice squad Maybe he'll never make it But guess what Keep running these guys out there and trying By the way Tom Waddle texted the two of us You want to read that? Oh I don't have my phone on me Go ahead It's my best Hey cap After hearing the polls sound I think you need to put your pants back on It's an HR violation Okay I mean yeah I love Ryan polls I'm a big Ryan polls fan And that was great audio Tommy I had a cigarette in the studio Sorry But my pants were on I see it here Because I'm wearing shorts We will give you the pics That is coming up next on cap and jhood Welcome back to camping jhood On Chicago's home for sports ESPN Chicago It's time for the peck sex Featuring David Kaggleth Like I find Texas goes into the big house And no Connor stallions No JJ McCarthy or Blake quorum It's an ass whipping Jonathan Hood Jets plus four and a half I'm very confident in that one I believe the Aaron Rodgers will light up the San Francisco Bay Area sky Being back in California Feeling comfortable Spry Oh It'll happen Jets plus four and a half But she normally Yeah I mean it's going to be Sam Darnold Against that pass rush With Eddie's Hopkins and still hurt Jordan Addison might not go like that It's just there's too much going on with the Vikings I'll play the point of half of the Giants And also tell you they're going to win the game Hey pal You're just blowing from stupid down And Jay Moore Jay Moore has taken the Eagles as well I want to take in the Packers Oh my god Listen to this guy I think it's a toss up game And if you're giving me two and a half with the Packers I'll take the pass Neutral sights Nice to the chest I'm all a Jay Moore's pit It's the best The picks On Cap and Jay Hood ESPN Chicago Even AI Jack Getting into the fray in week one And spraying shotgun palettes all over Jay Moore Who actually had the best week Yep He wouldn't say that to Jay Moore's face And know that AI Jack Because he's not programmed to do so And it's now time for the picks right here True On the cap and Jay Hood boarding show All right Uh what do you have to stand in front of you? Jay I do Jay Moore and Cap tied at the top Seven and three each Hoodie six and four Me at the bottom five and five Need a bounce back week two All right let's go through the college slate first All right three college games to pick from And a brutal slate this weekend Number 17 Notre Dame Off of the loss Nine and a half point favorites as they travel to Purdue Purdue quarterback Hudson card is set to Have an FBS record for a completion percentage He did that against Indiana State Uh he's gonna take on a very good Notre Dame team though That secondary is headlined by Xavier Watts I still think that Purdue uh Is going to be able to get this job done I like Purdue plus nine and a half I think Notre Dame can win outright But I think close in the experts think I like Purdue plus nine and a half Shay how are they prognosticating the Boilermakers in the big 10 this year A bad the quarterback that hood mentioned Hudson card Good for him FBS record completion percentage He stinks he's horrible Yeah, I was afraid you were going to say that Because my numbers have Notre Dame Win in a football game by about a dozen I'm going to lay the points Much as I hope Purdue Crushes them Let's go Boilermakers, Boiler up But I will Lay the points and take Notre Dame Since 2012 Teams off of a loss is 20 point favorites or more Notre Dame Are 38 and 66 straight up Only 38 against the spread Boiler up Purdue Hmm Jaymore I'm rolling with cap I'm going to take Notre Dame I think they'll rebound nicely after that terrible 1.4 million dollar loss Love that That goes all in the hammocks pocket Nice weight room You know some paint on the wall Helping out we're recruiting I think that's awesome All right, what's next? All right, number 24 Boston College First time ranked this season at number six Missouri Mizzou 16 and a half point favorite So Mizzou is riding a two game winning streak after his 38 point win against Buffalo That defense earned its second shutout of the young season The Tigers out gain the Bulls 518 to 169 in total yards Um, I like Boston College Plus 16 and a half in this one I think Missouri is going to win the game outright I think that's obvious but I think Boston College can hang in there This game could be 26 and a half Boston College is going to get the ever living H beating out of them BC gets destroyed at Missouri later points Yeah, this is my favorite play of the week College or pro ranked match up with a home team favored by two touchdowns or more They're about 80 billion and oh on the favorite The book is telling you one of these two teams is not top 25 That's BC Mizzou rules I'm rolling with Mizzou as well All right, honey Bama number four in America going up to Madison Is 16 and a half point favorites at Wisconsin Crimson Tide were led by quarterback Jalen Milro and his 199 yards passing with two touchdowns He's has and not look sharp, but he'll be good enough against Wisconsin Give me, uh, the Tide minus 16 and a half Alabama is a great program It's a program in transition a bit because they have a new coach Nick Saban era is over Kaitland borer is there But they still have top flight talent They may not be the Georgia Bulldogs, but they are really really good And the Wisconsin Badgers have their fifth quarter and they have their jump around And the Bucky Badger, it's all cool It's all gonna suck to be a Badger on Saturday afternoon Alabama rolls later points Cap them with you once again Wisconsin, I think stanks You mentioned Bama's being in transition I think Wisconsin's gonna end up firing Luke Fickle and being in transition at the end of this year The air rate offense just doesn't work there You need big o-linemen, you need to run the ball Alabama goes up, shows them the meaning of the word respect Roll Tide We're all on one accord, I'm rolling with Alabama Let's go On to the NFL hoodie, the LA Rams Go to Arizona to play in that cemetery of a building, that mausoleum Cardinals one point favorites Yeah, Rams make a bounce back again, they're very close against the Lions On a Sunday night football, the Rams find a way to win that ball game With a heavy LA crowd in Phoenix for that one, Aaron Glendale Rams plus one Cardinals are an improving team, their quarterback is healthy They've got Marvin Harris, the junior who's a stud The Arizona Cardinals battled Buffalo but fell short But they won't fall short this weekend, give me the Arizona Cardinals to win that game I actually think the wrong team's favored here I would have the Rams as about a point and a half or two point favorites I'm going to go with the Rams Same here, going with the Rams I'm very confused by that line Yeah, I think it's an overreaction Rams back up offensive line kind of But Matthew Stafford was incredible in the Lions game So I'm going to take the Rams Saints going on the road to Dallas, caps, cowboys, six and a half point favorites hoodie I like the cowboys in the six and a half again Regular season juggernaut are the cowboys The numbers may not have been great for you When you look at Dak Prescott in that game against the Browns But I still like the cowboys to be able to get the job done At home, Jerry World against the Saints Yeah, not a problem I'm with hoodie on this one Give me the cowboys to lay the six and a half and beat An okay Saints team, they played a division two by opponent last week in Carolina Now they step up in class Dallas wins big Yeah, cowboys are going to win the game But six and a half feels crazy to me I think this should be Saints as about four-point dogs Don't do that, don't do it Hoodie, I'm sorry Don't do it, don't do it, don't do it I'm taking the Saints to come with a scrab and toast Ooh, ooh, ooh I'm taking the Saints Why? Don't do that Same dude, it was all over the panther last week Don't do that, Shane Oh, who else was all over the panther? You That'd be me Hey, who are you picking in Survivor? Oh, uh, probably Probably gonna take Oh, the Seahawks, I think If only you done that last week Please, please just take the cowboys, just change I can't do it, I gotta go Saints Saints actually look pretty good last week But they're going up against a better defense In the cowboys this week So I'm rolling with the boys Cowboys Go Go ahead Bengals You already know Brody go Well, yes, there's that too Shane Moore's rolling with the boys Yeah, the Brown and Goldie said There you go, Wyoming Uh, Bengals at Chiefs Chiefs laying five and a half at home Hood The wrist of Burrow seems to be a problem As he was flicking it and shaking it Uh, this past Sunday Don't know how if he's gonna be 100% It doesn't matter It's the Chiefs at Arrowhead That'll be all Give me the Chiefs minus five and a half I'm with Hoodie on this one as well Burrow's wrist is an issue That team has got some problems internally Give me the Chiefs Yeah, Burrow's hurt Bengals last five years Weeks one and two against the spread Two and seven I don't think that gets a whole lot better When you're going on the road to Kansas City I'll lay five and a half at home I'm rolling with the Chief as well I think these guys are gonna three Pete So that's my pick and I'm rolling with those guys Hoodie buccaneers on the road in Detroit Lions lay in seven and a half points Touchdown and a hook against Tampa Yeah, I'm gonna pass That's too hard Oh, you can't do it Gotta make a pick This is the most difficult one I've had all week actually I don't, I mean The Lions win the game But I've had a hard time with the point spread Seven and a half I was impressed by the Lions Being able to eke out that game on Sunday night But are they a touchdown plus Favorite against the buccaneers I'll just roll with the Lions I will I just But I was not sure all week What to do with that as far as a point spread So I'll take the Lions Minus seven and a half So I was all over the buccaneer Until I came in here and norling Said to me Kid Look at the injury report for the buccaneers They are banged up here in week two I am holding my nose And taking my goddamn Campbell And the Lions But I'm not feeling great about it I'm also going with the Lions cap I told you yesterday You should look at the injury report Another defensive back Has just hit the buccaneers injury report Antoine Whitfield Jr. is not gonna play in this game Lions are covering seven and a half points Yeah, it's tough for the Bucks man So I'm rolling with the Lions We're all on the same page 49ers laying five and a half on the road in Minnesota hood Give me the Vikings plus five and a half in this one I think that the Vikings I think they can win the game outright quite frankly I do Even though I still think they have the worst team in the NFC North I just think in an upset the Vikings will find a way Kevin Ocado might I didn't say he is Might be the better coach in this game Sam Darnell played his tail off last week They got some dudes up front on both sides of the ball Give me the Viking to cover the number I'm going opposite the two of you I have this at San Francisco minus a full touchdown at seven I'm gonna lay five and a half with the Niners See Shay is the smart one How's that? Last week Everybody went for the Jets except me Didn't take the 49ers last week Can I interrupt just like did Michael Vick play for the Steelers ever I don't think so This dude is walking down his tree with a VIC tour He worked here in the building Got to break him in He's got a Steelers two jersey I went oh there's a Justin cult member He ended his career with Pittsburgh I thought so Oh he's wearing Mike Vick Steelers jersey Tyler Bring your phone Ah Jersey I know that's his section He has a great job with that part of creative On his TikTok I think he would definitely run up to that guy and say Why do you have a Michael Vick toward the end jersey? Right Number two with Pittsburgh That's pretty good Because that's Justin's number right? Yeah, I think it is That's a good jersey I didn't want to have to Shell out for a Fields jersey So I just wore the VIC But I really am a Fields cult member All right, where are we Shay? Are we at the Colts Packers yet? No, it's still me I'm going with the 49ers I think Jordan Mason will have another Good game against the Vikings All right Colts lay in three and a half on the road Lambo field taking on the Packers hoodie Yeah, Malik Willis is a quarterback Even though the Packers are at home I like the Colts minus three and a half And win the game outright I can't stand this team I don't want them to ever win a football game But they're covering the number at home Because Matt LaFloor has a really good team He's a really good coach The quarterback may not be any good But he's getting an opportunity Give me the Packers Malik Willis is terrible But with Jordan Love in the game I made this number Packers minus six and a half at home I don't know that I buy But Jordan Love to Malik Willis is a full 10 point swing I'm going to take the points with the Packers I'm going with the Colts I don't think Malik Willis is going to do anything So I'm just I'm rolling with the Colts man I got you Final games Sunday night football Bears at Texans Texans lay in six and a half Hoodie Give me the Texans minus six and a half in this one At home Big spot Against a rookie quarterback For the Bears I think the Texans find a way And give me the Texans minus six and a half I think it's closer than people think I think the Bears come to compete I think Caleb's better I'm not telling you they're winning the football game But it's going to be tight, tough I think that What did I say yesterday for a score? I can't remember 27-23 Something like that Bears cover the number I hope they win They cover the number Give me the Bears His number on its face is outer space to me I think it's Houston minus three and a half Not six and a half I think this is way off I'm going to take the Bears I'll roll with the Bears as well I feel good when Jaymore likes a pick that I like Jaymore is going to take the Bears From now to the end of the world As he should Every single week I thought it was a part of the brown bag club, man I was in the stands With the brown bag on my head That means something different But okay, I understand That's true, something like a bottle of crown royal In a paper bag That means something different But nonetheless He will always arrive with the Bears And that's the picks right here On Captain Jayhood Alright, coming up We will have Courtney Cronin With the latest on the Bears And their match up against the Texans Captain Jayhood on ESPN 1000 Also on our YouTube channel
