The Social Contract with Joe Walsh

You Better Accept This Truth: Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump Speak for the GOP Base

Tucker Carlson gave a platform to a Nazi apologist yesterday. Donald Trump had dinner with a Jew-hater. It's time the entire country wakes up to the truth that Tucker and Trump are not outliers. They speak for the base of the party. Is the base of the party antisemitic? No. But...antisemitism is not a big leap from MAGA. And it's time MAGA condemns it.

Luckily, their captain had an idea. She used the smart buying tools on Amazon Business so they could work more efficiently and get back to doing what they do best. I know, right? Amazon Business, your partner for smart business buying. America, we got to get back to doing what's expected of us as free citizens in this democracy. That means being tolerant, being respectful, staying informed and being engaged. I'm former Congressman Joe Walsh. Follow me here and join the millions of Americans who are renewing their social contract with each other. The social contract, it's on us. Tucker Carlson yesterday gave a platform to a Nazi apologist. Hello, everybody. Happy hump day. Happy Wednesday. Tucker Carlson yesterday had on his show a historian who believes that Winston Churchill was bad. Adolf Hitler was good and the Holocaust didn't really happen. He gave a platform Tucker Carlson did to a Nazi apologist. Now, I'm not going to spend any time talking about this supposed historian talking about the guy that Tucker Carlson had on his show yesterday. The guy who said Winston Churchill was evil and Hitler was good and the Holocaust really didn't happen. You can Google it. You can find out who he is. You can watch the episode. You can do whatever you want. That's not my point this Wednesday. By the way, everybody listening to me right now, let me be very crystal clear about something. I believe in freedom more than anything. Tucker Carlson is free. Do not misunderstand me. Tucker Carlson is free to give a platform to whoever he wants to give a platform to. I am never ever calling to censor speech. Tucker Carlson can have whoever he wants to have on his show and I will defend until I die. Tucker Carlson's right to have a Nazi apologist on his show. I will defend until I die Tucker Carlson's right to have an anti-Semite on his show. I believe in free speech, period. So please, in your comments, put that to bed. That's not my point. That's not the direction I'm going this morning. I simply put out this. Tucker Carlson has a show, a very popular show. And on Tucker Carlson's show yesterday, Tucker gave a giant platform to a Nazi apologist. Again, a historian who believes Hitler was really good. Winston Churchill was really bad and the Holocaust didn't happen. So what's my point? Here's my point, America. Tucker Carlson's not some fringe voice. Tucker Carlson speaks for the Republican party base. I've been asked over the last few years, every time I go on TV, whenever I go on a podcast, because I come from the Republican party base and I'm clearly no longer a part of that base, I'm asked often, Joe, who are the leaders of the base, who speaks for the base, who best channels the base, which voices out there represent where the Republican party base is. And the two names I've always given are Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson. Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson speak for the Republican party base better than anybody I know. And by the way, Keith, let's put that up. Can you put that article up so that some of these folks on the right don't doubt me. You can Google it and find it anywhere. Tucker Carlson's favorite historian didn't suggest, doesn't believe Hitler was bad. And he had that guy, his favorite historian, you want to find out his name? I'm not going to give him a platform. I'm free to do what I want. Thanks, Keith. Go Google it. Read up all about it. Tucker Carlson, as well as Donald Trump, speaks for the base of the Republican party. There are other voices. Marjorie Taylor Greene channels the base, speaks for the base. I believe JD Vance speaks for the Republican party base. I don't know of anyone right now who better speaks for the Republican party base than Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump. That then begs this question. Well, is the Republican party base Joe anti-Semitic? Is the Republican party base a bunch of Nazi apologists? A bunch of Holocaust deniers? No, I don't believe that. But the Republican party base needs to do some real soul searching. Here's one of their leaders. Here's one of their muses. Tucker Carlson gave a platform eagerly, enthusiastically yesterday, gave a platform to a Holocaust denier. And let me tell you something, Republican party base. All you Donald Trump supporters listening to me right now, unless you come out and condemn this real strongly, people are going to rightly say that you're okay with it. Donald Trump, a year and a half ago, had dinner with a Jew hater. I didn't hear a lot of Trump supporters come out and condemn that. Here's your opportunity. Trump supporters. Oh, it happened again, TikTok. MAF Keith, it's okay. We'll keep going along. TikTok just bounced me again. I don't know why. Maybe it's my language. Maybe I'm getting too worked up. Republican party base, this is on you. Right? You got to decide. You have to come out and condemn this. Or are you okay with this? If Tucker Carlson ran for the Republican nomination for president and Donald Trump wasn't in the picture, Tucker Carlson would win. I don't think it'd be close. If Donald Trump loses and Donald Trump decides to run again in 2028, Donald Trump will probably get the Republican party nomination and I don't think it will be close. J.D. Vance is going to appear on stage in two weeks in Pennsylvania with Tucker Carlson. Vance speaks for the base. That's a choice. Tucker Carlson just had a Nazi apologist on his show. J.D. Vance has agreed to go on stage with Tucker Carlson. That's a choice. J.D. Vance saying I'm okay. I'm okay with Tucker Carlson, having a Nazi apologist on his show. Look, the sad truth is the Republican party base. And look, I don't want to focus on Tucker Carlson. I don't want to focus on Donald Trump. I try to, as much as I can, focus on just for the heck of it, Keith, as I'm talking, I'm going to try to go live again on TikTok. Let's see if I can go live. No, it's not letting me go live. Okay. This isn't about Trump and Tucker Carlson. Tucker Carlson's doing what he wants to do. He's choosing to, he chose to go to Moscow and get down on his knees and suck Putin's toes. He chose to do that. Tucker Carlson chose to go to Moscow and to say that Moscow is better and more beautiful and freer than any American city. Tucker Carlson chose to go to Russia and bad mouth America. I don't want to focus on Tucker Carlson. That's who he is. I'd much rather focus on you, on Republican voters, on Trump supporters. Is that who you are? Is that who you are? Are you okay with Tucker Carlson platforming, a Nazi apologist yesterday? You're down with that. That's cool. Or are you going to say to me, but Joe, but Joe, as, as a Reuben says, Kamala and Biden choose to let illegals into America. Oh, that's, you know what, Reuben? That's, that's really bold, brother. That's bold, Cotton. Way to address the issue, Reuben. Do you have the balls, Reuben, to address my question? Are you okay with Tucker putting a Nazi apologist on his show? Are you okay with that, Reuben? Or, or would you rather talk about Kamala and Biden and the border? Or are you able, Reuben, to handle both issues, to handle both? Look, look, if you can't condemn this, if you are a good, decent, sincere, genuine Trump supporter, if you like Tucker Carlson, and you can't condemn him having a Holocaust denier on his show yesterday, well, then you know what's going to happen? My good decent Trump supporter, my good decent Tucker fan, you are going to get labeled as a Holocaust denier. People are going to assume you're okay with it. And this has been part of the problem from the beginning, right? We call Donald Trump a cult leader. The reason we call Donald Trump a cult leader is because most every member of the Republican party base is afraid to ever call him out, to ever say he's done anything wrong, to say Donald Trump has ever told a lie. When you do that, well, then people are going to naturally assume you're like a member of a cult, if you can't ever criticize your leader. And if you can't criticize Tucker Carlson for what he did yesterday, people are going to assume that you support it. Again, I'll fall back on my, on my, on my backside. I, I believe you know it's wrong. I don't believe you are a Holocaust denier, Tucker Carlson fan. I don't believe you're a Nazi apologist, Donald Trump supporter. I don't believe you are. And I'm hoping you have the decency and the courage to condemn it. The, the, the problem here for the Republican party base is this. And I come from the base. I've said this before. The base, good people want to say that again, all of you, you know, calling me a son of a bitch over here, you are all good people. James, if bullcrap was electricity, Joe Walsh would be a power plant. James, you are a good person. I believe you're a good person. I believe that. And I am going to continue to implore you to be better. I'm going to continue to implore you to be better than Tucker Carlson and be better than Donald Trump. I, I think that the Republican party base, good decent people had been ignored for years, been ignored by the Republican party establishment for years, been laughed at and dismissed by the Republican party establishment. I don't come from the Republican party establishment. I come from the Tea Party. I understood that you felt that you were ignored and laughed at and dismissed for years because I was every bit as pissed off at the GOP establishment as you were, you were scared, you were concerned, you were angry about a lot of what you were seeing. You've been seen in America. I get that. I heard that. I felt a lot of the same anger. So I get it. The problem is many of you have said, okay, because Trump listens to me and because Tucker, Tucker Carlson gives me a voice. Well, then dog on it, I want Trump to be a dictator. I want, I then give Trump the power to do whatever he wants. It's, it's like the base has begun to embrace authoritarianism. And that's where I said, time out. I hear your anger Republican party base. I, I understand your fears and concerns Republican party base, but no, I don't want a dictator and we don't ever allow authoritarianism in America. That's where you and I went our separate ways. For everybody else, right now on the left getting mad at me, because you believe if I say Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump, speak for the base, the Republican party base, better than anybody else out there, you people on the left now are saying, well, that means that the base is anti-Semitic and racist and bigoted and all the rest joke is Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump are and they speak for the base. No, don't make that leap. That's an unfair tag. That's an unfair leap. Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump take advantage of good people, lie to good people, scare good people. Now the good people need to wake up. But look, Tucker Carlson embracing holocaust denialism, embracing a Nazi apologist. When you, when you say like, I'm going to give up on the democratic process, Republican party base, and you want to give, you want to embrace authoritarianism, well, it's not a big leap from that to Hitler was okay. And a lot of these people on the right who've been okay with MAGA becoming an authoritarian embracing movement, you've got to understand that Tucker and embracing Hitler and denying the holocaust. It's a part of that. It's a part of that. And by the way, Josh Michaels, I've said this since the, you know, since the beginning of time, there's anti-Semitism on the far right. And yeah, Rashida to leave. There's anti-Semitism on the far left. Does that make you feel better, James? Does that make you feel better? Rashida to leave is an anti-Semite. Rashida to leave is a Jew hater. Does that then forgive or condone what Tucker Carlson's doing? Come on, man, be better than that. Call it out wherever it comes from. Gut chat time, gut check time, Republican party base. One of your great voices. One of your heroes yesterday, he had a Nazi apologist on his show. He applauded a Nazi apologist. One of your heroes, Tucker Carlson did that yesterday. Where you at? Gut check time, Republican party base. Do you support that? You condemn it. Or are you going to keep your mouth shut? Because you're afraid to call out Tucker Carlson. That's on you. Explaining football to the friend who's just there for the nachos? Hard. Sick to my stomach. Keith, give it to me. Thank you, sir. Elected Republican Party leaders secretly hope for Trump election loss. Elected Republicans secretly hope that Trump loses. Woke up this morning. Woke up. Got out of bed. Ran a comb throughout my head. I think I botched those lyrics. That headline made me sick. Elected Republicans privately, the article this morning said privately want and hope that Trump loses. That story made me sick to my stomach. Republicans like me and a number of others who gave up our careers as Republicans by publicly opposing Trump. And here we are eight to nine years later and we still have Republicans privately hoping he loses. What cowards. And I'm going to guess that most everybody listening to me right now agrees with me that if you don't let if you're an elected Republican and you don't like Trump and you want Trump to lose, I would I would hope that everybody we'd all agree that that person should have the decency and the guts to speak up. To let his or her voters know what they really think about Donald Trump. When they write the book in a couple hundred years on this period, this Trump period, Republican cowardice, Republican cowardice will be the title, will be the main theme. Again, I'm not talking about Republican voters. Republican voters believe what they believe and damn near every Republican voter I've ever spoken to over the last eight years has had the guts to tell me where they stand on Trump, good, bad or ugly. When I talk about cowardice, I'm talking about Republican elected officials, Republican leaders, Republican party leaders. If I had a dollar, you've heard me say this before, if I had a dollar for every Republican elected official over the course of the past six years, who told me privately that they agreed with me, they agreed with what I was saying publicly about Trump. Man, if I had a dollar for every time that happened, I'd be a wealthy dude. Republican cowardice. I don't believe there's anything that angers me more than this. And again, a big part of it is call me stupid, call me crazy, call me wrong. But I felt six years ago Trump is unfit. He's a threat. And so I felt it was my duty to say that publicly. And I knew the minute as a Republican, as a conservative, as a Tea Party guy, I knew the minute six years ago, I knew the minute I said publicly, I opposed Donald Trump. I knew I was ending my career as a Republican. What an easy Adam Kinzinger. A few years later went through the same thing. It's not easy. But Kinzinger and I know the names of so many elected members of Congress, elected senators, who all feel the same way. This story this morning doesn't surprise me. Like they want Trump to lose. They don't have the balls to say they want Trump to lose. As a voter, David Carter, TDS, as a voter, that should piss you off. Thank you, Keith. Be clear about something. Let me be clear about something. Whoever that was, whoever accused me of TDS, Trump derangement syndrome, guilty as charged. I do have Trump derangement syndrome, if that's what you're referring to. I believe in my head and my heart that Trump is an existential threat to our democracy. When I say that Donald Trump is a lawless, un-American psychopath, you can accuse me of being wrong, but I believe that. Because I believe that, I have to speak out every day because I don't want that back in the White House. Again, disagree with me, but guilty as charged. Yes, I'm obsessed with Trump because I'm obsessed with keeping him out of the White House because I'm obsessed with this country because I love this country. God, that pissed me off. And you know who they are. You can guess who they are. These Republican elected officials who want Trump to lose and they don't have the courage to say they want him to lose. Like they want Trump to lose, they want him to go away. This is what I've heard. This is what I've heard for the past six years, six, seven years, ever since I came out against Trump. Republicans privately would tell me, "Yeah, Joe, Trump sucks. He's bad. He's bad for the country. He's bad for the party. I agree with you, Joe. I can't say that publicly, Joe, because if I say that publicly, Joe, like you did, I can never get elected again." But then the other thing they'd always tell me, always tell me, they would always tell me this, "Joe, it will blow over. The Trump thing will blow over. It's like a hurricane, it's like a tornado. It's going to come and go. Don't worry, Joe. He'll lose in 2016. They told me in 2015. Don't worry, Joe. He'll lose in 2020. They told me in 2019. Don't worry, Joe. He'll be gone. Trump will be gone. And then we'll get the Republican party back. They've told me that every year for the past six years, they're saying the same thing now. They don't have the courage. They're saying the same thing now. They want Trump to lose because they believe that Trump loses, then their happy establishment Republican party will come back. They're blown smoke. They're smoking something. They're wrong. It's not just Trump. It's Tucker Carlson. It's JD Vance. It's the base of the party. This is what the base of the party wants. The base of the party wants authoritarianism. The base of the party wants a wall built around America. The base of the party doesn't want to increase legal immigration. Trump could be gone tomorrow. The Republican party will never go back, ladies and gentlemen, to the party of Jeb Bush and John McCain. That ain't happening. Hey, thank you, everybody, for listening. TikTok. I apologize. Dang. Must be my language. I don't know. We'll look into it. Midweek, big week, short week. Let's keep pushing. Follow me on every platform. Listen to me every day. Spread the word. As always, be brave.
