It's a very good morning. It's just coming up to eight minutes past seven a.m. Welcome to the Miraya breakfast show. Well, this is where the nation's biggest conversations begin every morning. And if you're streaming live, yes, we are broadcasting live from the heart of a nation's capital. Right here in Juba. My name is Irene LaSueur. Now it's time for us to take a look at what's making the headlines in our local daily newspapers. Yes, welcome to the second hour of the show. And right now I'm looking at the the don daily newspaper, the number one citizen and the city review. Now on looking at the don daily newspaper says civil society, welcome extension of transitional period and second extension of transitional period receives mixed reactions. And that's the second page of the paper and civil society welcomes extension of transitional period, the center for peace and advocacy. And advocacy organization has expressed its support for the extension of the revitalized peace agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South, and there are assets for an additional two years. Now we said in a statement issued over the weekend in Juba that the extension will provide the parties involved in the peace agreement with the necessary time to address spending tasks and prevent future blems from the citizens. So the second story here say second extension of transitional period receives mixed reactions. Now several south Sudanese have expressed mixed reactions following the extension of the transitional period for another two years to get look, an email presidential adviser, national security say during the closed door meeting of the presidency on Friday that the extension will enable the parties to implement the critical pending peace tasks such as the enactment of the permanent constitution, population census, and the registration of political parties. Well Martin Elia Lomro, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs says that the extension for the recent re recommendations from both electoral institutions and the security sector. Well what are your thoughts on that? You can join the conversation online and on air. Online you can send an SMS on our Facebook pages, we are live on Facebook on the Miriah breakfast show page and the iron lawsuit page and you can also send me an SMS in 0 9 12 17 7 1 4 and if you're outside the country and would like to send an SMS don't forget to add the country code plus 211. Now we continue with the nation's big conversations right here on Regent Miriah looking at what's making the headlines in our local daily newspapers now charity provides business skills training to 25 youth in centric atoria state and the tutorial here says the extension of the transition of period is a slap in the face of citizens. Now the parties to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement have confirmed the total lack of political will. This is what the the editorial of this particular paper is saying by extending the transition of period for another two years without the popular consent of the people they purport to lead. Now in February 2022 the parties gave the same reasons such as the delay in completing critical peace terms before extending the transitional period and then the top leaders within the transitional government had confirmed the deep mistress and fearful elections president that that is what the the tutorial of this paper is saying now South Sudan's cabinet approves post appointment of poll for two years extends transitional government period and yeah let's see let's see South Sudan cabinet has approved on Saturday a two year extension of the transitional period agreed upon by conflict parties in 2018 as well as the first general elections for the same period since the country's independence for Sudan in 2011 so that brings the next elections to December 22nd 2026 okay all right let's go to the next piece of paper or the next uh local newspaper that I have here that's the number one citizen says extraordinary cabinet session approves extension election delay now a wheel west receives essential drugs and that's on the third page of the paper and which east county needs to flood mitigation measures residents all right so for those who are following us and are interested in the political affairs of the countries of what that means is we will not be having elections in come December 22nd as highly anticipated now that that state has been extended by two years now all right so let's take a look inside on some of the stories here the second page of the paper is running the same story being uh being run on the front page a continuation for that matter now the National Council of Ministers have endorsed the decision of the presidency and party's signature to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement to extend the transition period for an additional two years postponing elections until December 22nd 2026 now this is the biggest story right now in the country i will west receives essential drugs now health officials in Yumlil primary health care center in a wheel west county of northern bargazale state have announced the arrival of a consignment of drugs including treatments for malaria and pneumonia now law chamise lawl deputy health director has confirmed this on saturday um and uh he said that this was delivered by uniceff and the said minister of health uh representing a significant intervention that has been eagerly awaited and another story agriculture minister are just farmers to combat hunger and that's very important so non violent campaigns make youth realize their rights in next date and the three most effective ways to stop most to stop smoking according to recent scientific evidence and yes if you're struggling with that you can grab yourself a copy of this particular paper at your nearest outlet and that story is on the seventh page of the paper let me go to the next paper and that's the city review daily newspaper says calls for reforms during the extended period whoa now while mixed reactions have emerged since the announcement was made for the extension of the current transitional period and postponement of elections for two years to 2026 the executive director of the community empowerment for progress organization has added his voice and has highlighted the pressing need for systematic changes to ensure that the next two years yield tangible results for the country's citizens a city lawyer and politician have also weighed in into the matter and uh another story here youth unite in eber county to commemorate the elephant day tell me about it now the event organized to mark the elephant day featured sports competition and cultural activities highlighting the country's dedication to protecting its wildlife particularly elephants which are increasingly indigent endangered due to poaching and environmental challenges and yes communist party criticizes postponement of the elections all right looking at uh more stories here making the headlines in our local daily newspapers you can uh comment on facebook and i'll be looking at some of your comments coming in here on any story that could have caught your attention but obviously our talking point is about your thoughts about the extension yet again leaders are citing uh having enough time to make sure that they do meet the prerequisites of elections what are your thoughts on that all right calls for reforms as country moves into another transitional period and uh in in his art and appeal for reforms edmonia kani the executive director of the community empowerment for progress organization has added his voice over the growing debate following the announcement of an extension to the transition a period and postponement of elections to 2026 now communist party criticizes uh postponement of general elections now this the communist party of the southland said on saturday there was no political consensus at all among parties in the country and this contributed to many agreements not being implemented the party said this during its fundraising that was held in juba over the weekend and advocacy body welcomes a two-year extension of the rrsis as cabinet and thus is it all right so those are some of the stories that you find in the paper mister and miss yiddell beauty pageant held in juba and it's just 16 minutes past seven a.m. before i open up lines for the talking point now the presidency has obviously extended the transition of period by two years postponing elections of december 2026 and the consensus was reached during a meeting chaired by president's albakir on friday last week and now has been endorsed by the cabinet now let's take a listen to one of the activists here and let's see her thoughts on the extension before i come back for our talking point good morning morning is marca de lona i do think it's the third organization now it's good enough but it's also done because of the engagement not because of the innovation program all right welcome once again yes lona you are presenting your organization and assistive society activists in the country you've been in the heart of following everything regarding the implementation of the peace agreement and yesterday the parties and the principles announced yet uh two-year extension of the transitional period yes i do it is it a has it come as a surprise to you well it's not a surprise when some of our stories come in we saw them planning it we saw them calculating it we saw them pre-organizing it yes but in as much as i'm not surprised i am deeply disappointed because it could have been done better all right oh yes you had the that's uh the executive director of su de mop maricade lona says saying that she is disappointed and in as much as she saw this coming she is not surprised that this would have been the fact of the transitional period seeing elections being extended to two years but yes give me your thoughts what are your thoughts about this extension are you optimistic that in these two years the leaders will be able to meet all the prerequisites because all we all we need is having free and fair elections and we need all these things to be in place and what better way than have the time to do these things well call me on 092 96 86297 those are the numbers to call just comment on our on our facebook platform 091 2069 50 listed in uh our caller for this segment yes read him right good morning good morning good morning how are you doing i'm doing fine how are you i am i'm very fine thank you and before you speak to me let's just try to be as constructive as possible yes all my speaking to this is me hi yes i said tell me yeah sometimes i'm giving up very enough uh very short time where we we are supposed to expect our work we are live that show is live and we have to follow time so tell me yeah yeah aren't surely with the citizens are hopeless and this is what we were knowing in this government because our leaders are know about working in the government have failed not to drive at the service the people of the republic of sasadan and their gets working for their own benefits so you're not optimistic that the two years that they will do anything in the two years we were not there have been a second those two years there is nothing that they can do into years time how many times they have since this government this would be yes you see are in e-ciful usually say that we have since and we will work you can see at the end until the region they have not done anything this is very bad to access the government so this is isak right because i didn't get your name yes okay yes right so isak what do you think should be done differently in these two years they should have they should have to do things on time and so that the the sensors should be rich on time right then they should there's confidence should also be rich and all other financing that are attached with a company that should be in time so that if people follow the security will almost reach the everything he has done then people will go for you will be going for election human leaders leaders but i'm telling you even next uh next two years they will make other extension believe me iran you ally let's cross that bridge when we get there thank you so much isak for speaking to us today here on the program and adding your voice to our talking point and we are speaking about the extension of the transition of period and hence postponing the elections for another two years bring the debts to the 22nd of december 2026 what are your thoughts the leaders are asking for more time to ensure that they meet the prerequisites that will lead us to elections yes are you optimistic 0 9 29 6 8 uh 2 9 7 yes ray jameriah good morning good morning iran how are you doing yes fine this is changing yes dear you're telling us to construct it but actually yes please as much as you can they were not constructed as long as they violated our right they attend the time this time alone you know the country is not just something that you own as a government you also need to go back to the people and ask them what if he does right okay right but we already i get they have already got the time to attend it for one month and they fail so what guarantee that they will come up and tell us that we are going to do one two three for you and don't do it within two years time so it is a much of violation and this is not the matter that if we are told to be constructed it's also another way of highlighting us and we don't want us to talk i am not silencing it but what i'm saying is we need to give a way forward and not just you know picky-punkies there uh-huh we are still saying way forward that way we'll not come the way forward was roadmap right who will be the best government of national unity and the place now to me i'm saying that if they are actually for us they will go back to the solution they made yesterday right i come back to us to cause all us to agree with them what to be done right so yang dang the big deal is they did not they should have consulted the public right right right you are supposed to do right you are disappointed with them so you condemn them in the strongest term possible right thank you so much dang dang yes dang dang you have a say you have a right in the affairs of this country yes regi moray good morning good morning iron good morning how are you doing i think you're talking to john from high floor yes uh uh john tell me you know iron there is this common thing hmm but if a person keeps on you one that shame on him okay if it is if it is twice if it's shame on you oh so he's here mistake that this happened to you twice because that's happened you know how come again that you know this thing again happens and you still believe that these people are doing right thing all right so it is shame on us it's also the means that our leaders have been kicking on us a good location and it's actually you know shame on us not even shame on them well the extension have been happening several times promising that you know depending provisions in their treatment we demanded if extended from now now that you know the effect that we can still bait and we will we knew we are supposed to be so what where are you placing your money you're placing your money on another extension or i'm i'm i'm i'm placing my money on another extension yeah it does not implement these provisions i'm telling you because there is this there is this proven statement which i don't know who says it you know sometimes but that when these political parties unite the loot are but when they disagree you know they kill us i think this has been a common we don't know where this statement originated from but it it actually suits you know uh our leaders the nature the nature of our leaders okay so what do you think should be done differently um uh my brother john i think that sometime you know we we even feel i mean uh to come up with an option we are lost for words independently we really lost where because you know before what have been states of real time in the previous extension but nothing is done about it so what will be what will be done now differently that we think can be done do they even agree on a different way of the only way that we as house leaders won't want to have an election so that we choose the leaders we want to do that again not the current one right that was you know that was our option at the time all right but currently we are actually out of way what we should tell our leaders to do differently than what they have been done thank you thank you john thank you john i hear you and i hear the frustrations in your voice there yes reading my good morning you are my last caller thank you i really appreciate for you for picking up my calls to be you know to be participating in these uh questions all right this sure is for the people it's it's a go my book again wow yes i go tell me our leaders have successfully extended the suffering of the citizens of the republic of so on so that for another two years as you you had from the colars the previous colars if it's what is you know uh the mind of uh every citizen if you even a chance to ask each other then they will tell you what other people are you know we have no hope at all uh don't be surprised to hear in the summer 2026 the period has been extended there yes i've also been extended to 2028 don't we we're hoping that doesn't happen but thank you so much for speaking to us um they will not they will not you know address without the standing provisions you know this issue need it to be addressed nothing happen out of it well we pray and hope that this is a learning curve there will be nothing at all they will continue to eat money they will continue with their corruption they will be they will continue they will not be able to be to deliver services they're all will continue to be like this there will be no good hospitals there will be no good schools uh the dominant school schools people will continue to fail in the exam they will know well well we're hoping for the best Thank you. Thank you. I
