Granger, for the ones who get it done. Every team, every topic, everywhere. This is believed. All right, everybody. Welcome to another episode of Talking Ball Live with Pat Leonard. It is Thursday, September 19th. The Giants are 0-2, going to Cleveland. On Cleveland, a must win in Week 3 against the Browns, Deshawn Watson, Miles Garrett, Kevin Stafansky. The Giants are up against it, and I can tell you the temperature of the locker room right now is that players know where they stand here. They know what needs to happen. They know they need to win. They know they need a couple wins. They understand the potential ramifications if they don't get a win. I told you, going into Week 1, going into the first game of the season against the Minnesota Vikings, that the Giants players understood. There were jobs on the line this season. There were people potentially on the chopping block if this didn't go right to start the year. And you can lose games and still look like a team that is building something. But so far, the Giants do not look like even the type of team where you can draw a silver lining from the way that they have performed. Now, of course, the offense did make some strides in Week 2 at Washington, and that is what Daniel Jones and Brian Dable and the Giants are counting on, continuing to build on in Week 3. They believe, despite the embarrassment in Week 1 against the Vikings, and despite losing a very winnable game to a, let's face it, bad Washington team, some talent, but a team that is going to lose a lot of games this season, not just because rookie quarterback, but the defense is lacking in talent. The coaching on the defensive side of the ball against the Giants, even I thought was advantageous in the Giants' favor to get some things going in both the run and the past game. The running game is where it starts for the Giants on both sides of the ball. Defensively, they have allowed an average of 7.3 yards per carry to the top two running backs of their opponents so far. Aaron Jones and Brian Robinson Jr. Combining to average 7.3 yards a carry against the Giants in the first two weeks of the season. Unacceptable and something that, you know, talking to players and having covered the league for a long time. You can give up big pass plays and it's upsetting and you can feel like you have to go back to the drawing board after getting hit for big plays down the field, and that's nothing you want to happen. But getting dominated on the ground in the running game is demoralizing, and it is the kind of thing that when an offense runs at will on you, as Washington was doing to the Giants last week, and as really situationally, Minnesota was able to do in the first week, the defense ends up walking off the field after those long drives, those long scoring drives, even if it's only a field goal they give up and not a touchdown. And it makes a defense feel like the offense can do anything they want. They can run, they can pass. There's no way to narrow down their playbook to understand maybe and create more predictability about what they're going to be running in certain situations. The Giants defensively need to provide a deterrent on that side of the ball, and Dexter Lawrence saying he's pissed off, he's tired of losing, and he, Bobby O'Karricki and the Giants defense intend to do something about it on Sunday against the Browns offense that has a good offensive line but does not have Nick Chubb going with Jerome Ford and Dante Foreman, both good backs but not Nick Chubb. On the offensive side of the ball, the Giants feel like they have started to find their identity, which is the run game. We talked about coming out of week one without Saequan Barkley, what is the Giants identity? And it became clear in Washington, and even though Daniel Jones played better, and Malik neighbors obviously with 18 targets was an enormous part of the Giants attack, what they're going to be and what their bread and butter is going to be, as Chris Mann hurts the tight end told me, their bread and butter is going to be the run game. And so the run game with Devin Singletary with an offensive line that's able to protect Daniel Jones not just in the passing game, but by gaining enough yards on the ground that those play action plays and shots down the field can work and Jones can have enough time to operate there. That's what they're hanging their hat on going into Cleveland, that they saw some functionality offensively, that they had a plan in place that worked on the run game, and then even their ability to pivot in game and increase the amount of planned targets for Malik neighbors based on the coverage they were seeing from Washington in that. So a lot of pressure on Brian Dable, a lot of pressure on Joe Shane, the general manager, a lot of pressure on this team, and everybody knows it. Everybody on the team knows that that's there, and everybody knows what it will mean if they lose to Cleveland with Dallas coming to New Jersey on Thursday night football just a few days later. Potential disaster is on the doorstep. Potential chaos could be right at the Giants back door, a knock, knock, knock, a wrap, wrap right there on the door on the Giants have to decide right now. And they have decided this week they aren't going to tolerate it. They aren't going to stand for it. They're tired of not only the losses and how they've lost, but like listen to Dexter Lawrence. The Giants are upset about the way that not only that they lost and came out, but they understand because they heard you all the fans at the stadium, especially in week one loud and clear. That was as quick as any as anyone can remember of a fan base here with the Giants saying, we're done with this. Don't want to see it anymore. It was jarring for the players, even though they knew their play wasn't up to snuff. They understand they have to earn it back, and that's what they're out to do here. But you have to admit, if they're not able to do it in Cleveland, if they're not able to do it against the Cowboys, and if this continues to look as bad as it has in key areas of their team, changes on the horizon potentially sooner than many would have expected coming into the season. All right, we start off with Giants Chronicles Gabe, what is up? Gabe in the house says my alarms have started to sound on Dable losing the locker room. And it could start happening at a rapid rate these next two weeks. What type of feeling have you got from the guys in there? Yeah, so, you know, I saw, you know, Jordan Rodden from ESPN now came over top with a report on his podcast talking about how, you know, basically it's kind of a razor thin edge at the locker room is kind of tiptoeing on right now. And that's exactly why one of the main reasons why I've been explaining to you guys why this is where it is, why this is so urgent. And one of the reasons why I asked Brian Dable that question after the game. Because in the organization, in the Giants building, the pressure is on, the intensity is high, it's tense, it's not loose, it's uncomfortable. The players are doing their best right now to try to put their best foot forward, take their pride onto the field and produce. But I will say I get a feeling of a lack of full confidence in what the plan on the field is going to be. You know, that is born out of weeks and weeks of conversations about how this team is functioning, where they're going. I thought it was interesting hearing Bobby O'Kareke admit that there are, quote, growing pains happening with acclimating to this new defense. You know, I think that Shane Bowen's indication in his press conference gave about how right now opponents are consistently finding like the weakness in the defense or in the call or in the scheme on a certain play. I thought was a concerning thing to hear because he's right about that. But you'd rather hear that there's a scheme or a plan that is going to prevent those holes and those weaknesses from becoming big explosive plays and long sustaining drives by the opposing team offense, right? Like you definitely want to hear more about how it's going to be fixed rather than getting a sense of inevitability. Now, I do really appreciate Shane Bowen's candor in describing what he feels has been happening on the field and even his accountability about better calls that he could have made on third and longs, especially. I mean, the third and long conversion rate for Washington in the last game was absolutely, you know, stunning. I mean, completely hard to believe. I just wrote about the defense for the New York Daily News today and on certain third and long. So the commanders converted seven to 14 third downs. Two of them, though, were third and longs that they basically got, you know, within a yard to force a fourth and one and then converted the fourth downs and scored. And so listen to this, they had a third and 10. They gained nine yards on the Giants. Washington then had a third and 14, they gained 13 yards. Then they had a third and 13 and they gained 14 yards for the first down. Then they had another third and 13 and they gained 16 yards and they had a third and eight and they gained 20 yards. I mean, just really difficult to draw confidence from a game where you put numbers like that on the field, not to mention the 215 yards rushing. But gay, back to the locker room, I think where this really stands is guys know when they're being put in a position to succeed or when they're still searching for answers. And the feeling I get is that they feel like they're still searching for answers. And I'm talking mainly right there I'm talking about on the defensive side of the ball. I think on offense, it's more of like a restlessness, like they're encouraged by what their line and the running game were able to do in this last game, right? They were encouraged about what they were able to establish there. And they were encouraged about, you know, the idea that Daniel Jones with that running game working, even though it was, you know, almost beating a dead horse the way they were targeting Malik neighbors. That was also born out of, hey, they're not stopping it. They're not sending the right defense at us to stop this. So we're just going to keep attacking it. You know, that's just that's just adjusting on the fly as a coach, you know, and as a play caller. So nothing wrong with that. You know, there is something wrong with that, though, if you can't make more options out on the field, if you can't scheme ways to get the ball to other playmakers, if you can't stretch the field especially, right? Like neighbors for everything that he did, the Giants were unable to hit any of those explosives down the field, right? And so, Gabe, I hope that answers your question a little bit. We'll get into more of that throughout this and I will get to all of your other comments there. So I'll come, I'll be bouncing back and forth here because I see that you loaded up the box. All right, Jacob says smack that like and sub button for one of the realest reporters in the business. Thank you so much for saying that, Jacob, as always. And I will bring you the temperature, the insight, the breaking news, the injury updates, and the first hand analysis of what I saw on the field from Cleveland. I think those post game lives are absolutely fantastic from what you guys bring as viewers and fans, whether you're at the game, whether you're watching at home. And then lots of guests and other extra content that is already on the channel that you can bruise and that we have coming. So stay tuned and Jacob, thank you for that. Barb says happy Thursday night football. Anybody see the post by Landon Collins? I did see that Barb right before I came on here. That was interesting. Landon Collins tweeted. By the way, it's so hard for me to say X, like Twitter, you know, tweeted is just, it's the verb, you know. So even though it's X, it's still like somebody tweeted, right? It's hard not to say that. Landon Collins tweeted a picture of himself in his Giants uniform and it said calm before the storm and at Giants. And then he retweeted it and said, is it, you know, time to run it back with a question mark. That I almost view that as Landon saying he wants to come back. Actually, as we're live right now, let me check in and see if I can get an answer on what's happening because I literally saw it right before I came on here. So, let's see. Touch reaching out to a league source here. Live reporting on talking ball live. What do you say? All right, sent the text. Let's see if we hear back from a league source. Who would know? All right. OG says they don't have the talent, Pat, meaning the Giants here this weekend for in Cleveland. Yeah, it'll be tough. I think it's going to be a really tough game. I agree. Evan, what's going on? Great to see you. How are you doing? Awesome. Thanks for being here. Ken says, if and when things go off the rails, what players do you see getting additional opportunities? Any trade speculation. And Gabe, don't worry. I'm going to come back to all your questions up top. Just want to spread it out a little bit. Don't want to read for in a row. Just want to be fair there, but you are a die hard and you were here early, so I'm going to get right back up to those questions in a second. So, Ken, what players do I see getting additional opportunities? I mean, obviously, we know that one could be Drew Lock, right? Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, you know, if they end up pulling the plug and they're 0 and 4, right? If they pull the plug on table at that point or shortly after, you can imagine that the general manager seat is going to be a way to maybe sell, hey, we're going to have a high pick next year. We don't want to incur this injury guarantee. Let's play the backup quarterbacks now, that kind of thing. That's on the table. I mean, the Adam Schefter headline obviously was a glaring deal with the injury guarantee mentioned again. And then, you know, other players that would get additional opportunities who haven't been to this point. I mean, that's a tough one, Ken. I mean, I guess at corner, maybe you could see a little more Nick McCloud than Cordale Flop, but McCloud has been hurt. I mean, that's part of the reason he's been out. But, you know, the thing is, Ken, I don't think you'd see as much turnover on that as you would expect because the general manager Shane is involved in the lineup decisions. So it's not like the coach plays a ton of guys that the GM doesn't want playing as much like that's not the dynamic. Joe Shane is involved in that dynamic. If anything, it would probably be at certain places just going younger and trying to, you know, test out once and for all what Josh is due to is or whatever Neil is if they still are going down that road or, you know, let me think of another young player. I mean, Trey Hawkins, a guy who, obviously, they have shown so far, they don't trust to have him on the field this season. So we'll be interesting to see, you know, even where that stands. But I think you see what I'm getting at is like young players, young draft picks guys who either have shown so far that they were overwhelmed or who haven't got enough run this season to kind of bear it out once and for all, you know, Jordan Riley on the defensive line, guys like that. But in large part, they're playing the players that both the GM and coach, one on the field right now, so it wouldn't be as crazy of a flip. I think quarterback would be the position to watch in that regard. Gabe says also Pat, could you please be the reporter who breaks the story on jail and Hyatt? There's way more to it than just sleeting is better and I would like to see a reporter figure it out. I mean, you know, I told you coming up, first of all, Gabe, I think, I think one thing as I take a sip of my estate 98, by the way, stay tuned the estate 98 trivia question is coming up very soon. So, no answer back on the text yet. So, Gabe, jail and Hyatt and I talked in the summer and jail and Hyatt was a player that a lot of people were excited about and obviously came with a lot of pedigree with the Bolittnikov Award from Tennessee. But his numbers at the end of last season, like I think the projection of what he was going to be in his second NFL season was not necessarily accurate or fair based on his limited production as a rookie. So what I mean by that is this, he had, you know, credit to him, a 100 yard game against the Patriots last year right, and stretching the field in that game for Tommy DeVito helping them win. And of course he had a big couple catches in the Arizona game in week two, also an impressive fourth down catch over the middle against Buffalo and 75 yards yards receiving in a win over Washington. Now, that said, after that 100 yard game against New England where he had five catches for 109 yards. He had one, two, three, four, five games after that. Okay. In the five games after his 109 yard game down the stretch of last season, jail and Hyatt had six catches total for 43 yards. So six catches for 43 yards on 12 targets. Okay. So again, like I said, there were a handful of games, what four or five, where he made some big explosive, you know, plays that could help and help change games. And that is what he has right he has that ability to make a huge splash play. But what he told me was that he needed to be more consistent in every area of his game in order to prove that he deserves to be on the field consistently and more. I guess to Ken's question. Jail and Hyatt conceivably at that moment. Like if if they were to fire the coach or this would start crumbling jail and Hyatt over Daria Slaton would be a natural switch with Slaton getting traded. I think that would be, I think that would be a natural follow right. Like I think that would make a lot of sense for, for the for Slaton, who I, who Daria Slaton I think, you know, I think it's very clear that Daria Slaton would, you know, not mind being in a place that it can can score more points where he can be directly and, and kind of, you know, build out his skill set to the point where he's earning what he feels like he deserves and what he's worth based on his skill set and talent. So like it would be the best thing for him to get traded at that point and then jail and Hyatt would step in and play more. But, Gabe, this is one thing that I think sometimes goes overlooked. For years, you know, even though they have potential, they don't earn the job and practices. So like, for example, some of the one on ones we see during practice in the early portions of the, of the, of these practices. Sometimes you see jail and Hyatt make a good move and beat his court beat his man beat a corner and make a catch. But by and large his route running isn't as polished as a lot of the other guys. Like Slaton is a better route runner and is a better all around receiver than jail and Hyatt. That's not even a question in the Giants mind, which is why you see that lack of usage like that. Now, it is a bit strange, though, how much the organization built up this talent and this young man, and then how little he is used. I think it's definitely like I asked Mike Kafka about it today. He said that there are definitely situations where he will play more based on the defense they're facing. But again, they basically say like if we're going for wider and empty, you'll see him more is essentially what they say, you know, or maybe a more 11 personnel than you see him in a rotation. But their plan clearly has turned into max protect neighbors take shots run the ball right. They're trying to play heavy disciplined line of scrimmage control and conservative with an explosive element. So he's not fitting the new identity of what they want to be. That is definitely, you know, the coach and play callers coloring in of how he feels like this, this can best function. So I think to answer Ken's question as well as yours gave, hi, it would be a guy, maybe that if this keeps coming down, you'd see him on the field more, and then Darius Slaton would be an example of a player who would get dealt. But since the Texans game, something happened between hide and the staff where it seems they just don't value him like they used to do they get an altercation. I mean, he played more last year. So your job. Do you ever have to deal with a nose roller? How about a snub bully? Well, if you're installing a new conveyor belt system, dealing with the different components can sound like you're speaking a foreign language. You've got a team ready to help. Granger's technical product specialists are fluent in maintenance, repair and operations. So whenever you want to talk shop, just reach out. Call click Granger dot com or just stop by Granger for the ones who get it done. I answered that altercation, not that I know of. And you also said I'm begging you text your favorite most reliable source in the building to figure out and write a story on it because it really is bothering a lot of us fans you want answers I think you mean about the locker. I mean, I hope I gave a full well rounded answer there, Gabe, but we can continue to talk more about that. Brian Boyle agrees couldn't hurt to get land in Collins back again. Ribs and whiskey, good name, says blitz to Sean Watson and you will win. I'm a Browns fan. We always blame the line as well. It's not. It's always the quarterback. Ribs for checking in. Thanks for the Browns Intel there. I do agree with you that if the Giants get to Watson and if it's not just getting to Watson, it's also I think you'd agree with me ribs. It's also putting the Cleveland Browns in a position where Watson has to beat you like with his arm and they have to throw the ball. The Giants, the amount of running rushing yards they've given up and how bad they've been in run defense. They really need to first and foremost get a handle on an early lead and taking control of a game, right? So if they're able to take control of a game and get a lead, it'll help Brian Burns, cave on Tibido Dexter Lawrence and rushing to pass so you can pin your ears back because you're not trailing all the time. And then on the Cleveland side, if you can stop their runner deter them from running the ball, then you, you know, Watson has to go more into drop back versus effective play actions off of runs that are averaging five to seven yards carry like there's a huge difference between those two. You know, so the run game's effectiveness or ineffectiveness will put more pressure or take pressure off of Watson. And I agree with you ribs, more pressure on Watson for the Giants, like not just from their line but also for the Browns to be throwing it more with him means more opportunities and a better chance for the Giants. A stronger running game play action passes and action off of it where the Giants have to honor the run and targeted shots from from Watson but not a lot of pressure on him to carry them. That's the recipe for like a blowout basically. I do think though, you know, the Giants defense the way they've been playing. You know, they really need to show me based on how they fared against these first two offenses Vikings and commanders so far, they need to show me that they can stop anybody before I say that they're going to stop somebody. A man says regardless what Daniel Jones does, if this offensive line puts us in a position to win, I'm staying on this train. It would be a huge statement if they can correct mistakes and be consistent against the top tier defensive line. For sure. Yeah, it would absolutely be a big statement. The defensive line protected Daniel Jones well and ran the ball well against this front, which includes former Giants second round pick Dalvin Tomlinson, and also obviously, Miles Garrett defensive player of the year or two time I think absolute stud. And Zadari Smith on the other edge. This is this is going to be a tough team to run the ball against. I mean, they're a lot like you said, their D line is really good. I don't think the Giants old line is going to move them as well as their as they just got used to moving Washington's line last week. So this is going to be very interesting. Evan says the process from this team is question is. I think you mean quite questioning or questionable. If they do not turn the season around things could get bad just a bad look all around. Yeah. Yeah, no, it's it's fly by the seat of your pants, day to day stuff from what you can see. Jay Ferri says I don't know how people aren't more bullish. Joe Shane finally hitting on some picks. I think it's exciting. I think I'm assuming Jay you're talking about neighbors and Drew Phillips. Drew Phillips obviously looking good. The slot corner third round pick out of Kentucky has played well so far. Limited action in week one but did force a fumble and then in week two against Washington led the team and tackles was very physical. You know, you obviously like what you see there but still want to see more. See more from a lot of the draft picks and see consistency from those guys as well. Jay Ferri says how does boom Chaga go with vodka. That's a good question. You tell me that. How about that? You order a bag of boom Chaga and tell me. MTD says much rather be here with you all than sit through a jet game. I know it's funny. I have it on the iPad here. You know, it's funny when I when I first decided to do these on Mondays and Thursdays and then I realized, oh, yeah, you know, that's Monday and Thursday night football, right? So obviously there will be weeks like next week where the Giants have a Dallas game on Thursday. So we'll do talking about post game live that night, right? So that'll just replace that. But I thought, oh, yeah, you know, I'm going to miss at least half of these Monday and Thursday night games. I don't really want to do that blah, blah, blah. But I noticed that, you know, a lot of these games, like you're not missing a lot and you have it on over here on the side. You can catch the highlights. If you really want to dive into the film, I can do that with NFL next gen pro and next gen stats and the film room that they have there now. And so it's a really good way to kind of maximize our time as NFL fans and multitask, right? And still talk some Giants in NFL while we're also checking in on the league wide action. All right, Jay says, oh, yes, the boulevard of broke broken dreams. Shurmur, judge, macadoo, and now, oh, he calls dable bozo, right? I think you're referring to the John Marra Bono to bozo comment there. All right. Yes, try it and report back with the vodka and boom. Yes, Jay Farri says we'll do no Mets. What's up? Always checking in. Always loyal here. Loyal follower and participant in talking ball live. Hirsch, what's going on? What's good? Good to see you. Farri says kind of funny that Shane Bowen left the Titans and they are the number one defense in the NFL now. Yeah, you know, that's Bowen still trying to prove himself. I mean, better run defense than past defense when he was there in Tennessee. But also as we've talked about Mike Rabel. That was really Mike Rabel's defense. So let's see. Possible Bobby Johnson situation. I think you're referring to whether Shane Bowen would be scapegoated or fired here. I think is what you're referring to. You know, I think obviously if it came to that, that's another reason why dable could be in serious trouble here and is in serious trouble if it continues this way because, you know, they have a new defensive coordinator because the last one resigned because he couldn't work with this head coach and a lot of coaches. There were other coaches who left because of that as well. And they wouldn't hire current Titans defensive coordinator because he wanted to bring in his own staff. Typical Giants, no Met says. Giants DC job wasn't exactly desirable. Jay says most Giants fans on Twitter don't get that. MT says, I really hope we win Sunday. I can't take another dead season before Halloween. I know it's, it's exhausting. Like it's, it's absolutely exhausting. I can't imagine what it feels like for, you know, for a fan. For somebody who like spends a ton of money on these tickets. All right. Ryan Webber. What's up, right? Says doesn't get any better Thursday night football with the best in the reporting game. Know the O line for Cleveland a little beat up will be interesting to see how Giants take advantage. Yes, no doubt. I'm curious about that as well. It was interesting. I saw the injury report today came out and. So there are two tackles. Jack Conklin with the knee injury. He was actually a full participant in practice. So seems like he's tracking to play. But then to your point, Judrick Wills. The, the, the other tackle has a knee injury and he was limited. So TBD there. You're right. Obviously doesn't appear. There'll be full strength at, at offensive tackles. So that's on the Ed Drushers, obviously, on Brian Burns, cave on Thibodeau to take advantage there. Whether those guys are in the lineup or not, they have been banged up for sure. You know, I think that the way the Giants need to take advantage though is it starts with. The run game and. You know, Dante Foreman is kind of a one cut guy that the Cleveland Browns have. You know, good running back downhill guy. Jerome Ford's interesting though, because they'll attack the edges with him. You know, the stretch plays kind of get outside, hit those, hit those edges and kind of. Kind of seal. You know, the outside and, and get up feel quickly up the sideline. And you know, you have that where Thibodeau and Burns so far have not been good enough in run support in run defense there. And also that's just not what they're known for. They're more known for rushing the passer. But then also on the interior, the Giants have struggled as well and we ID this all off season. I think a lot of you guys did too. But in the run game on the interior, they do not have bodies inside who are providing enough resistance outside of Dexter Lawrence. And so, Brian, to take advantage of that offensive line. The Giants need to win their battle in the run game against that offensive line. Like this could, you know, the way that Washington ran the ball. You know, you really don't have to pass much when you run the ball like that. Of course, Washington had some success in the air as well. But, you know, that is the key to take advantage of the O line and the tackles and what Cleveland is bringing at you up front. You first have to deter them from attacking your weak spots in the run game. And so far, you know, it's interesting Shane Bowen was talking about trying to defend the run with lighter boxes. And one thing they did a lot in the last game against Washington is because of the read option action with Jaden Daniels. They often kept their nickel corner on the field rather than having two linebackers, you know, and five down linemen, right? Like instead of a base defense, they were running more nickel and keeping nickel out on the field against Washington and the commanders were therefore countering with straight run plays, downhill run plays of Brian Robinson, Jr. Then Daniels pulling the ball every once in a while. And both Shane Bowen even said that when that they were spying Jaden Daniels, but then there were some of those third downs, they took a spy off of them. And off he went, you know, and he regrets not not making the right call in those situations. So kind of flipping back and forth between the sides of the ball here. But by and large, I think the main point that and Ryan, this is a really good point you bring up about Cleveland with some of those beat up tackles, maybe you can take advantage. I think this brings up a really just flat out point. Brian Burns, Kavan, Thibodeau and Dexter Lawrence have one total sack between the three of them after two games. Dexter Lawrence had a sack against Minnesota right at the start of the game. Brian Burns did have a sack last week against Washington got called back due to that holding call on Drew Phillips. So, you know, that's where that's where we stand though, not good enough. Brian can get much better if you are drinking boom chaga super drink with vodka. Jay Farri setting a good example for everybody. Thank you, Jay. So this is a $10 super chat from Jay. And he says, let's get some super chats flowing guys do players coaches you cover ever get pissed at you for your tough questions please tell us a story. First of all, Jay Farri is showing you guys, you can purchase a super chat or super sticker and it will elevate your comment or question to the top of the queue. This is a great way to support the channel and also a great way to have your comment or question answered first. So your question is, do people ever get pissed at me for my tough questions. Yeah, I got a good story for you. When table was staring me down and, you know, staring me down several times in that press conference and then walks out and cracks his neck as he's walking by us out to the hallway. You know, like he's like he's, you know, tense and, you know, ready for ready for battle, you know, for figuratively speaking. It made me think of 2000, I think it was 2019 with Pat Schurmer, the, oh, yeah, 2019 the Carolina Panthers game, the game that they lost on the 63 yard field goal. And that was the morning that Josina Anderson's interview with little Wayne and Odell Beckham Jr. was went out was published that was televised by ESPN. And it was Gettleman going back to Carolina and Odell threw a touchdown pass to Saequan. It was a, it was a chaotic game. It was a crazy day. There's a lot going on. Remember, obviously Odell was ripping Eli in the interview. So anyway, the Giants lose the game. Schurmer had, you know, erupts in the post game locker room, or I'm not in the locker room in the post game press conference and Schurmer says that's when he did the. Finito, done. That was that, that line from Pat Schurmer. So anyway, we're in the locker room after that and Schurmer and I ended up basically getting chest to chest in a, I would say a stern confrontation is what I would call it. It was a conversation that became a, a mini confrontation and it was, you know, everything related to the way that emotions run high on game day. So, you know, nothing like went down. Nobody threw a punch. It wasn't a fight or anything like that. But we did get, you know, close enough to each other as we were going back and forth arguing that one of the giant security guards kind of like separated us. It was like, all right, all right, like, pack, you know, go over there to me or whatever. And, you know, Schurmer was at that moment in a tough spot. You know, he was trying to defend his team. He was trying to, he was reacting to a catastrophically bad loss. He had all of the, you know, the nonsense in his mind and in any team's mind, like, all the stuff going on around the team and all of the noise coming from that interview, right. All of that was, was pouring in and was, it was seeping in to the lock, you know, the locker room, the conversation, and into that press conference. That was really kind of stir it, you know, stirring, stirring things up. And I think what I have a patent, what I have a pension of doing J sometimes is it's like, it's like when you touch a nerve, right, when people say you touched a nerve. That's an expression for a reason, because you touch a nerve and it irritates, right, it produces a reaction. And touching a nerve, though, does not mean that you're gaslighting or you're, you know, pushing an agenda. What it means is, you're reporting on something usually in these situations, you're reporting something that's accurate, but that just, you know, is not something that the team would put out there themselves. Like, there's plenty of things happening all the time and all of these organizations and situations, look at the Carolina Panthers right now, with Bryce Young and that pension. Like if I were covering that team every day, I could get to the bottom of that for you about all the ins and outs of who did what and this person didn't want to do it and this person did and here's why they changed their mind. And those things would be true. Once I got to them and reported them and the accurate information. But even though they would be true, they would still produce maybe a reaction of frustration from some people. And so the loss plus all of that stuff coming down. You know, from Odell in the interview and the nature of the defeat and then the question Sherman was facing. It became like a basically a chest-to-chest confrontation in the locker room for a brief period until someone else was just, yeah, cooler heads, let's prevail. But I will say this about Sherman. Shermer is, he's a no-nonsense dude. Like he was a center at Michigan State. Like you look at him doesn't look like a very big guy. I mean he is tough as nails like physically tough. Like an underrated guy you do not want to throw down with, you know what I mean? Like that definitely like doing research on him and covering Pat and writing about him and meeting people from from where he came from in Michigan. Like this is a guy who nobody ever wanted to cross, you know, like represented himself in a very, in a very direct manner always. And so that's, I hope that answers your question. I mean, John Twitterrella obviously famously got pissed off at me and told me to stop coaching when I was covering the Rangers. And yeah, I mean, I think that, listen, in my job, you don't always want to be the person asking the question that pisses somebody off. I mean, obviously you're always trying to cover the good things or the silver linings or the positives as well as to be critical, right? So you're doing it and you want to strike a balance. But when a team like the Giants right now losing all the time, constant dysfunction, malpractice of roster decisions, frequent injuries, you know, finger pointing about whose fault it is, different seasons, those types of things. When that stuff's happening, like you have to cover it and you have to try to get to the bottom of it and you provide information. So, yes, plenty of people do get frustrated, get angry. I will say, Jay, like from my vantage point, I mean, I'm sure there are some players who could tell somebody privately that they don't, they're not a fan of mine or whatever. By and large, I get my vantage point, I get along pretty well with most players or a lot of players. I mean, there are some players who just decide the media is not for them, or they just group us all into a bucket, you know. And listen, there's some reporters who probably group players in a bucket, you know, but I think when, you know, when we get, when we talk individually, one on one, you know, I think I see eye to eye with people as humans too, like they're not just players or humans. So, that's my take on that. Good question, Jay. Daniel Hirsch checks in with $1.99. Thank you, Daniel. Appreciate that. Daniel says is Eli, a first ballot Hall of Famer. Daniel, my personal opinion is he is not a first ballot, but he will get in eventually. That's what I think. You know, I think that that's fair, in my opinion, based on his overall record and track record, despite the heroics in the Super Bowls. Obviously, he, I think, his accomplishments belong in Canton, and I think he gets in eventually. I do have doubts, though, of whether he will be first ballot. To be clear, I'm not a voter. I do not have a Hall of Fame vote. So just to be clear, I do not have a vote on Eli's case, you know, maybe one day I will have a vote. Hopefully one day I will have a vote. That would be an honor, but I do not have a vote for Eli Manning. Or anybody right now. I don't vote for the pro football of Fame at the moment. No, Matt says Aaron Rodgers kind of runs like Daniel Jones. I think Daniel's faster than Aaron Rodgers right now. Randy says, I don't think they have another effective plan besides forcing the neighbors. If they did, you hit on at least one of those two point conversions. Jay Farries doesn't want land in. John P says, I don't see this as lost the locker room situation yet in any way for Debo players typically own the losing players play for a while. I'm just not sensing a lot of confidence in the plan. John, I think they need to see results to have confidence in the plan. That's what I think. Oh, right. Jay says, hello, everyone, Pat Wise and Debo using Hyatt. Yeah, talking about that earlier. I think a lot of the details, you know, you can't run the full route tree effectively and reliably getting open and being that reliable target. I think also in as a blocker in that part of the game. You know, they trust Darius Slate more as well. If you watch the touchdown run for Devin Singletary last week, Darius Slate makes and holds a really good block to help spring Devin Singletary there. So I think that's something to keep in mind as well. Yes, let's see. Farries acknowledges that just like Lawrence Kager, it tips off the defense that it's a pass when Jalen Hyatt is in. Yeah, fair point. If a guy is not, if a guy is not versatile, then it can do that as well. Ken says, as bad as Daniel Jones contract was, we have an escape hatch after 2024. Imagine being the Browns Miami Jaguars and even the Cowboys, who are now locked into mediocrity for four to five years. I would say I agree with you on Miami and the Browns there. Dallas, I don't agree with being locked in the mediocrity there. I mean, Dak was the runner up MVP candidate last year like he came in second to win MVP league last year. And I know he doesn't get it done in the playoffs, but they do win a lot of games in the regular season. The Giants have not beaten them since Brian Dable and and Joe Shane took over. So I wouldn't throw him in that mix. You know, Miami and Cleveland definitely the Jags are kind of right that's teetering a little bit there right that that's that looks like it could fit into the same mold potentially but this is this is kind of the year for that right. This is this is a big year for Trevor Lawrence and the Jags to solidify if they're what you're saying or if there's something else. Simeon says, didn't the giant scout Joe and Hyde in addition to seeing him at the combine in his pro day? Did he forget how to run routes or the scouts piss poor for this team. Joe Shane definitely talked a lot about being at that one Tennessee game where he had three touchdowns and I think the speed to stretch the field ability, you know, trying to get vertical as an offense something that they haven't done consistently enough all played a factor. I agree with you though. I mean, that's like I said, one thing that is very strange is one thing that is very strange is how much they build him up and then he still doesn't play I think that's weird. Simeon says I know everyone likes a hot take crazy story but can we please ask why we never hard count. Second, can we please throw a jail and hurt style deep ball on third and long for a completion pass interference or punt yardage. Yeah, I hear that. No, that's a, that's a fair point. I don't, I don't know about why no hard count. I do not know that I can, I can ask that. The jealous dirt style people, they did throw those types of deep balls in the Washington game they just, they just didn't complete them, and they weren't picked off like for the punt yardage as you're saying. And neighbors wasn't able to draw PI on them so they did throw four of those in the Washington game or it, I would say at least two or three of them were the type that you're talking about but didn't hit it. It says I just feel like in early and most of camp, hi, it was looking like a favorite for Y receiver to over sleeping but then after Texans game that switch but why to go from key reps to none is odd. You know, chronicles I was actually the one who first pointed out in camp that they, they demoted him. What happened was in the Texans game, you saw they gave slate and a lot of run early, and he did make a nice one handed catch on the sideline. But what you saw was that their offense did not like they really struggled. And then take off and then Daniel Jones had the two interceptions right. You know, one of them was a deep target to hide it and then the other one was that killer pick six in the flat intended for Theo Johnson I think. Slating though unlocked that that deep pass that deep shot from Daniel Jones to set up the Devin Singletary touchdown run. And I think that that was a key moment there like a reminder for everybody for Brian Dable, especially as the play caller and him and Joe Shane making the lineup is kind of like, you know, who is Daniel most comfortable with who can make the plays, because it was also a key, it was real chronicles where it was like, I told you guys this, they needed to win right away, they needed to win now. They needed to have an exciting and progressive build starting in week one right off the bat, like look at how hard they were practicing look at how they were preparing. This was all about gearing up to have a strong start right out of the gate. So this was about so they needed to put the guys on the field that they trusted the most and they trust slate more. Okay, so you think there has to be more to it. I'm just telling you what I know. All right, let's get to revolution. What's up revolution. If the Giants D line still can't get home over the weeks, over the next few weeks, should we blame the scheme or the flukeiness of players. I mean, there's definitely, I think both, you know, I think both can be can be true. I think that, you know, you can't blame the defensive coordinator for every time that, you know, your star edge rushers and your star pass rushers don't get to the quarterback right, especially when they have one on ones like one thing Bowen said was he said, when we get our one on one match ups based on certain calls and blocking schemes, those guys have to win. He felt like that was better against Washington, but still needs to get better and even, you know, get even better from there. He said that he felt like cave on had a lot more one on one opportunities than burns did and that burns was getting chipped a lot in that commander's game by a second blocker. So, you know, but then again, you can't throw up your hands either as a DC and Bowen wasn't doing that, but I'm saying, you know, it is on the scheme as well. It is on the scheme to unlock and do like, for example, one thing Martin Dale always did was attacking protection. So in other words, you know, you watch enough film and you know enough about an opponent. You know what they like to run in certain down and distances and based on the personnel they have on the field and the formation they're in how they intend to block you right. And from there, you attack their tendencies right so you rush them to take them take advantage of what they don't do well. Or let's say just cracking my neck here, or just to, you know, to attack maybe the player that they're trying to protect on their line or in their blocking scheme, or to, you know, like every, every scheme has rules to it, right. So in other words, certain type of play call out of 12 personnel, you know, with two tight ends and one running back and out of that call if they're going to throw them. If you're a facilities manager at a warehouse and your HVAC system goes down, it can turn up the heat, literally. But don't sweat it, Granger has you covered. And even better, they offer access to experts and fast delivery, so you and your warehouse can both keep your cool. Call 1-800-GRANGER, click Granger.com, or just out by. Granger, for the ones who get it done. Fall out of play action, here's how they like to set a tackle and guard, or, you know, whatever it is, right. And here's how they like to create the pocket, here's where the right tackle goes, whatever it is. And so the defensive coordinator, like what Martindale would do was literally ID how those teams, what their tendencies are and what the rules were for their protections in those specific play calls and situations, and then attack that. Right, attack like the exceptions to the rules, basically, you know. Let's see. Jay Farries, what's up, another $5 Super Chat. Thanks for setting the tone there with the super chats here, Jay. Really appreciate it. Jay says years ago, Notre Dame fans were mad with bad teams, they're looking for a 4.0 GPA character guys who are top ballers to our New York Giants draft standards too high. No, interesting cop there by you. Although actually when I was at Notre Dame, I covered this and the Notre Dame like too high standards to let in good football players thing is actually somewhat of a myth in that, you know, test score wise Notre Dame let in similar level of student as their football players over the periods that I over the period that I was there to other top programs. It wasn't like Notre Dame was, you know, that the guys who got into Notre Dame had SAT scores 200 points higher on average than other schools like that was not the case. There were, you know, there are certain qualifications, obviously, but by and large, like, you know, if a guy couldn't get into Notre Dame because he didn't have enough English credits and he wasn't getting into a lot of other schools too. So a little bit of a myth there and an excuse and just the background there, but are the Giants draft standards too high like character wise, etc. I mean, the one thing that comes to mind when you ask me that is Michael Parsons. I was assured by several people that Parsons had enough character issues that he just became like a no go from very high up in the organization to draft. And so that was that, and that he was essentially not on their board, you know, like they would have taken him if he was if he had fallen, you know, dramatically, but that where he was projected to go he was not going to be on their board. He was not going to be an option as you saw, you know, that wasn't going to happen in those situations that can really damage you and hurt you as a program and as an organization, though, of course you do have to have standards and hold your ground and try to be, you know, create the identity that you want for your team and the culture that you want for your team in your locker room. So that's a that's a tricky balance, but no, I don't think they're, I don't think like they're not drafting good players, because they have two high standards for draft picks. I don't, I don't think that. So, like I said, in the, in the Michael Parsons situation, that's one where I say, you know, is it worth going back and reviewing that one more time, right? Let's see. Chronicle says, I just feel. Oh, yeah, you told me that. Okay. Jacob says, is there no talking ball live next Thursday, Pat? Actually, Jacob, we will have talking ball live next Thursday because it is Giants Cowboys, right? So we will do post game live. We will do a post game live late night after Giants Cowboys, because even though it's late, right, even though it's going to be late at night after Giants Cowboys, we're all going to be up and wired. Okay. First of all, second of all, for the for the daily news. Okay. I'm writing off of a game like that, and I'm filing pretty quickly off right off the game, popping quotes in after the locker room, and doing more writing for the morning after that because the newspapers put to bed. And then we have stuff going on on the website, but I'm able to go live quicker, usually coming off of a game like that. And so be prepared for talking ball live post game after Giants Cowboys next Thursday. So it'll be post game live in Cleveland on Sunday, then it'll be talking ball live next Monday night. And then after Cowboys Giants on Thursday, we'll do post game live again. Michael says, Pat, don't don't even get me started on how much I pay to be a fan of this team, hotels tickets, Sunday ticket subscription merchandise, all this money for the same terrible product every year. When will the pain end. Sorry, but thanks for venting chronicles. This is a safe space. Ken says hypothetical and sacrilegious I know but if trading DEXI to secure two number ones to use as draft capital. I guarantee top quarterback and draft next year would you do it. Man, that's a tough one. I mean, top D tackles are they don't grow on trees. You need one, at least one. I do think I do think this. I do think Dexter Lawrence would be would benefit from having other players to be able to be the out in front on camera leaders. I mean, DEX is a leader by example, but the way that right now he's standing there and becoming the face of a team that can't win is really grading on him, I think, right. I think he articulated that this week. As far as like he's tired of losing but that's what I think, you know, so maybe that gets to the point where he does, you know, he's tired of representing this much losing or that kind of thing and that's a conversation but he's a pretty high level player. So that would be a tough one to stomach. That would be, I mean, you talk about a total reset. My goodness. Jay likes the idea of potentially trading DEX to get two number ones. Wow. So then what happens to your defensive line? I mean, your defensive line can't stop the run as is and you have the best nose tackle in football. That's interesting. Probably something to revisit if the locker room, you know, comes undone if the lock if the losing continues. Yeah, where are my entertainers says don't trade your best player. Yeah, and that's that's I'm glad you said that entertainers because another thing I believe is I've said this about the Giants but also any of these NFL teams. You, you don't get better by trading or getting rid of good players. I know that sounds obvious but like the way the Giants have tried to rebuild this and turn this over here. They're, you know, their ability to get, you know, let's say quan walk, let Xavier McKinney walk, trade Leonard Williams, let Julian love walk right. These are good players leaving the building. And I know they brought in burns. They brought in neighbors. They bring in a vet like Singletary but it's, you know, you want to stack good players on top of good players. You don't want to replace them. Let's see. Undefined says imagine them shipping Jones to a playoff contender. I 100% believe undefined that Daniel Jones will be more successful at his next stop. I believe that. A to Z me what's up. He says if Giants win versus Cleveland. Daniel Jones shave even closer for the next game. I got nothing else but silly jokes his team has zapped the gray matter from hybrid. Yeah, I know right. Yeah, that almost looked like Daniel shave like the second he got home from Washington because then he had like kind of the little stubble for his Wednesday interview but clearly clearly had shaved the beer. Daniel Jones is no more Daniel Jones is the man but he says he still has the swag and the confidence to go out on the field and win on Sunday. Steven says out Michaels is getting grouchy watching a blowout. I have the volume off but I can imagine tell me some of the stuff he's saying I get a kick out of that. A to Z like in the story time no doubt. Do you know any almost Giants moves that came close to happening recently. Oh, that's a good question revolution. They were what was it they were poking around on was it really poking around on the top receiver in the spring I think that didn't come to pass even before the draft. Pretty sure if I remember correctly. I remember last year last year who was it Jerry Judy was a guy on the radar he's on the Browns now. Trying to think of who else. But yeah those are those are some things that come to mind. Nothing nothing in this last like week or so. Daniel Hirsch what's up Daniel. Daniel says if you want table to blow a gasket press him on the wink thing if the defense is bad it's on table. Yeah no I mean I agree with your last point there you know if the defense is bad it's on him I totally agree and see this is this is from an just from an organizational evaluation standpoint. That's just objectively true that's not an opinion like that. You know it's not Shane Bowens defense and Brian Dables offense Brian Dables team Shane Bowen runs the defense and Brian Dable calls the offense right. But it's still his team he stole the head coach and what happened last year was Dables responsibility primarily right like Joe Shane on the headsets listening into the dysfunction trying to monitor monitor the situation see how bad it is that kind of thing. So yeah. Good point Daniel and I listen I don't even think Dable needs to be pressed on Wink Martindale at this point like I think pressing him on Wink Martindale is just asking him about the defense is many breakdowns you know what I mean like he he saw it I mean he saw how bad the defense was in in that game he came out on Monday saying all types of stuff about all the corrections they needed to make in tackling run fits and how accountability wise the whole team has to basically look in the mirror is what Andrew Thomas said that he said so you know I think I think it already is getting to him and them and I think everybody in the building I think everybody in the building understands that if the defense continues to be this bad like last season put the defense in this position Yeah. Evan Spitzberg likes my Shermer story Pat versus Pat yeah that's right no doubt she says to me and hey I'm good no worries Anthony says I love the Giants since the tender tender age of six but facts are facts and they are trash. Ouch. Let's see well if Shermer is so tough we may need him on our D line come Sunday. Hey he is that kind of tough. Barb says her daughter is at the game right now wearing a gesture is he oh Barb what'd you do how'd that happen. Undefined says Shane gets no credit from me for picking neighbors too much of a gimme. Eligante says hey Pat how bad was the Joe Judge brawl with Colombo this is why I don't think judges CEO coach him was doomed to fail here. I think it was from my understanding it was a lot of throwing throwing stuff furniture getting tossed over at points and you know nobody had a mark on their face or was hitting the face from my understanding. That's that's pretty much the extent of what I know about that I think I do know that everybody in the building could hear it basically like literally everybody in the building. Yes everybody booing me for saying Eli's not first ballot but we'll get in Evan says Eli is the goat boom chaga that's right Jay Farris. Everybody ready for the trivia here we go. Today is September 19. There are three giants players who have the same September 19 birthday on their current roster who are they three giants players who were all born on September 19. Who are those players. That is your trivia question for today. I did not know this until today. I stumbled on it and thought it was unique and interesting I was talking to these guys and it's interesting like somebody who plays in the NFL and is a professional football player and has been playing football at a high level all these years. These guys basically don't get to celebrate their birthdays the way that you are I can you know what I mean. These guys you know they don't have an off season birthday they're in season they're all business. They have to. They have to stay locked in you know I on the other hand I'm in I'm in February late February so can live it up and it's also a nice way to. You know spice up the the gray and gloomy weather that is the month of February so again your your trivia question. As Drake may appears to be entering the game for the New England Patriots your trivia question your estate 98 trivia question is which three giants players all share the same birthday today September 19. I will check back in yeah not not everybody at once right I can see you guys are hesitating on those answers here all right. Let's see. Gabe says Eli has that manning last name and you can't tell the story of the NFL without Eli Manning first ballot. Yeah but that's not that's not a reason to get put a player in the Hall of Fame right it's actually about what they did on the field too right. Anthony says Eli is the goat Pat Eli number one Brady to Steve the bird number three. Jay says manning family is too powerful no way he isn't first ballot. Stephen says Eli won two Super Bowls for me he's a Hall of Famer because as a Giants fan that's all I care about screw the stats. And your entertainer says I think your Eli Hall of Fame take is spot on not first but eventually Jay says I've been a Giants fan for 35 years Eli is kind of borderline in my humble opinion but he will get in. Anthony says Eli Manning would have won three Super Bowls if plaques wouldn't have clapped himself. Hey impossible to tell you you're wrong about that right Anthony that team was a team was sizzling. Let's see if anybody tried to answer the trivia question yet. Oh looks like we got a winner. MJ and Matthew Kelly. It looks like all right MJ's popped in first. Did you looks like you guys both though came up with these on your own. So I'm going to give you guys both credit for this that is true. I will get it out to you well done Evan Neal Josh Azudu DJ Davidson all born on September 19. Kyle says sorry if I missed this Pat is there anything to Isaiah Simmons absence I know it was for personal reasons I hope all is okay but was curious if there was more to it from his lack of playing time. Kyle I don't know. I know that he lost his best friend from Clemson which I wrote about. I don't know if this has anything to do with him attending services for that or you know spending time with family or for in friends with that I don't know. I know that's one tragedy that's happened in his life fairly recently though it was I guess a couple weeks ago now. But I don't I don't have it nailed down exactly what is going on with Isaiah at this moment is it is of course noteworthy that this is a player who has, you know, bucked about lack of playing time in the first game, got on the field a little But also clearly was being used much differently than he expected coming into the season so worth trying to find out we continue to try to look at that. And I do think there are more questions need to be asked about Isaiah Simmons. They both said he expects Simmons to be available for Sunday's game though so it's not like he's it's not like he's saying this is a fluid situation here at least according to the coach. How can the players get mad and have no faith when at the end of the day they are the ones on the field who's fault is it for the Miss tackles penalties just play better cry baby says Tyler. They have to take accountability to no doubt about it but you know if they don't feel like the coaches are giving them a schematic advantage. It can be both right hey I got to play better but also in the back of your mind hey are we are we being put in the best position to succeed. But you're right guys do have to take accountability. Neil says hi it hasn't had a chance. Well they they clearly gave him a huge chance in training camp and then decided he hadn't earned it. Anthony says Dabel is desperate if hi doesn't getting playing time there has to be a reason. I don't feel like I've given a bad reason for this I know you got you guys seem to be asking for. I mean listen maybe there is something more to this than what I'm telling you I do feel like I've given you pretty reasonable and rational explanations for it. And I do ask the question of people there so you know. Iconic says I think it's stupid to really not use him since he has speed I think the lack of key draft picks not playing it seems like the GM seat could be hotter than Dabel do you feel the same Pat. Yeah iconic I do feel I do feel that way about that I mean let's go back and look at the drafts again okay. This is this is a. Going back and looking at the draft picks and evaluating that you know week to week and just seeing where where it falls from a. You know especially from a standpoint of like. Who's playing how many guys are playing prominently which draft picks have fallen you know. Out of the mix entirely which guys do they clearly not trust to even be on the field right like all of that and that's for that's for every team. You know that's something worthwhile following for every team to see how they're building their roster right not just the Giants. But so in the Giants case I look at it like this okay. Joe Shane's recent drafts like right now in that 2022 draft. Okay. The best the players the the player who to me from that draft has contributed the most consistently. Since he's been drafted is Michael McFadden the linebacker fifth round pick out of Indiana right. That's the ceiling of that draft one Dale Robinson has made some plays has been more of a gadget and underneath player for the most part though right. The Bellinger obviously had some you know some action and targets especially as a rookie. But really and the cave on Thibodeau had the sacks last year but obviously was very incomplete. But that draft you had one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven players drafted. And in that 11 players you have Evan Neal, Josh Azudu, Cordell Flott, Dane Belt and the guy who has made plays. Also can't you know for whatever reason isn't locking down that starting safety role right. He's viewed as valuable on special teams and they use him as third safety slash money. But you know not not a not an entrenched starter. So there's Micah at linebacker like a number two linebacker and then it's DJ Davidson who is the lowest graded player on the Giants this season at defensive tackle but on the team lowest grade player on the team. Marcus McKeeth and Darien Beavers not even on the team anymore. Right. So you're looking for more from Thibodeau you're looking for more from one Dale and you're looking for McFadden to try to continue to be consistent for you but that draft. How does that draft look right now that draft looks like it didn't help them build much of anything from that 11 player sample size. You go to 2023. You have Deontay Banks and John Michael Schmitz two guys who start and play every snap for them right now. And a lot is being put on their shoulders and the evaluation is still ongoing there as they continue to develop. But then you have Jalen Hyatt third round pick obviously been marginalized Eric Gray running back in the fifth round. A guy who's on kick return but you know really doesn't belong as a significant piece in a running back rotation. And then Trey Hawkins a corner that they don't trust obviously at the moment. Jordan Riley defensive lineman who is not seeing snaps even with DJ Davidson playing as badly as he is on the interior. And your various Owens a safety who is on the practice squad and therefore doesn't see the lineup or the field. So that brings us to the third draft which is neighbors new bin Phillips Johnson Tracy and mua cell. And I think you see some potential especially obviously high in town and neighbors some potential in new bin. Some good early play in Phillips Theo Johnson I think has a good skill set. I'd like to see him not only utilized more but see him as a receiver. Become more adept and more consistent there Tyrone Tracy I like a lot I thought we would see more of him early on. Obviously they're trying to establish dev and single Terry and trust dev and single Terry. But I really thought we'd see more of Tracy and then most out played that one game now has the knee. So by and large you know that's a really good question by iconic and I think going over it there shows that it's incomplete right at best. It's incomplete at best. Alright, let's see Jay says what do you think of the growth of team content creators on X with doing that solo give you more freedom as a real reporter. What do I think of growth of content creators. Are you referring to. Are you referring to like independent like fans becoming content creators covering their team, or are you referring to. Are you referring to like the actual teams and what they do and what they build. I think you're referring to like fans going on becoming their own creators. So in that sense Jay. I think it's great because it's a great way like right now nowadays is more opportunity than ever for somebody who feels like they know it sport know the game. So on camera or eager to learn it's a great opportunity to create consistent content right to go on a place like YouTube live which I really love doing and interact with people and get reps right like reps of doing this day in and day out and getting better at talking to people talking on camera and kind of home. I do have a lot of freedom right now like I work for the daily news and one thing I like about working for the daily news and for a newspaper to is. Being a journalist and kind of having kind of having not kind of but having that set of standards on that the business kind of demands of you to do the job the way that it should be done. You know I think that's that's an important thing, but also with the creative flow and idea generation and brainstorming and execution of a professional place like daily news and such an iconic name. Plus then the podcast on the believe network with all of the social media elements I can attach and compliment my coverage with and then the YouTube channel and everything that I can house under one. Under one roof. I think it's a really great opportunity to continue building something that really is kind of like a solo thing on the side but is also complimenting and coloring in my work at the daily news. So I hope that like for you guys, when we do these talking ball lives, I try to bring you everything that I know have heard have seen, but it's also a really good idea to. You know, all of you being diehards like if you consume all the content that I produce on all of my channels and in the New York daily news and on here, you'll get the full picture of how I see the team. So in other words, you know, going on here and talking but then reading what I write in the New York daily news and why daily news calm. You go there. It's cheap to sign up. You can be a subscriber. It doesn't cost much. And if you become a subscriber to the New York daily news website, you can get my daily articles and columns and game previews and keys to the game and all of that. That plus what I do here I think creates a really nice full picture of how I see the team and what's going on with the Giants. But Jay to your point. You know, being a content creator. I mean, X I view as one platform. I don't view it as an end all be all. I prefer at the moment, interacting with you guys like this on YouTube. All right, let's see. John Peace is following up on earlier comment Eagles and Aaron Rodgers make a habit of chucking up third and long ball such a low risk play that seems obvious. Entertainer says you guys should trade for Cortland Sutton or someone similar to pair with neighbors. I kind of like Satan for what he is personally but you need one more guy. I hear that. I hear that. I hear that. You need one more dude. Let's see. Anthony says from the top down Giants culture is awful laughed at and not respected. I hope this changes. H 5000 says Dave Gettleman drafted to proven all pros in Dexter Lawrence and Andrew Thomas along with value picks fourth rounder better. What has Shane done and what letter grade would you give Shane for drafting. Funny H 5000. We just went through this with Iconics question as well. But you guys are both on the same wavelength. See, I personally think it's a hot seat for both the GM and coach here. That's what I think. That's definitely my opinion. And I think the reason is what we just went through with the drafts. Do you do you hear? Do you see many obvious building blocks in that group? I don't. I think the I think the grade would be below passing right whatever that letter is. It's definitely below passing. HZ me says the Patriots are a disaster. But then again, we are too. So who are we to judge. Barbara calls Hyatt a bust. Jay says Shane's drafts are trending to look really good currently. I know it sounds crazy. Watch the tape. Yeah, I disagree strongly with that. But fair for you to have that opinion Jay. Yes, Evan Neal has zero snaps this year. That's correct. Diggy says Pat, what did you do after you asked Dable about his job security? There was a pause after his response before he gave you the death stare. The next reporter hesitated with her question like she was waiting. Oh, so what happened was when I asked him the job security question, he answered it. And then after he answered it, the next reporter over here started asking Brian Dable a question. He looked at that reporter as she started asking it. And then while she was talking to him, he looked back at me and stared at me. And so the reporter stopped because she saw him stop looking at her and thought he wasn't listening. And then I was, I believe in that moment, I had looked down at first maybe. So he stared at me that he looks at her. I think I might have looked down at my phone or my notebook really quick and then I look back up and he was still looking at me. But no, the thing I talked about in the last live, I don't know if this is what you're thinking of, but that was not the first time he stared at me in the presser. The first time was, I asked him whose decision it was with the Gano deal and the kicker and not activating somebody else. He answered it. And then I followed up. And I was trying to get to, you know, whether Joe Shane was involved, I wanted to know because Dable eventually said just put it all on me. And then I was trying to ask my second follow up to just, you know, just clarify exactly like, because to be honest, I'm even thinking about it's fair. It's only fair to Dable. Like he can stand there and take all the bullets, but like it's only fair to Dable for people to know that the GM was involved in that decision if Dable is going to get dragged for it, right? So I was trying to get to that. But two other reporters jumped, you know, jumped on top. The second I asked the first follow and Dable answered that. Two other reporters jumped in with their questions and I went, like, I went, you know, kind of looking over at one of the guys who were like talked over me. Because I, you know, I really want to get my question. And when I did that, Dable like did a huge glare at me. I don't know if he thought at that moment that I was making a gesture because of what he said or what his reaction was or something. I wasn't, I don't, I don't quite know. But, you know, that, I don't know. That was kind of how everything started in the press. Dable saving, saving Neo for the playoff push says A to this Giants culture is so bad. Most fans are excited about us trying to go for Bryce Young. This is how much of a bottom feeder we are. This excites our fans. I know it's brutal. And I know I said this before I think but Joe Shane was a CJ Stroud guy. He, he and the Giants, excuse me, just dropped my water real quick. But he and the Giants both believe very much in measurables, height and size at the quarterback position. So, you know, I do not envision that being, I do not envision that being a trade that the Giants would make. Jay Farries says this is so true. Dable will have job questions with or without Pat. No, no doubt. Iconics says Pat, do you believe the hype or narrative around the Giants not drafting minority quarterbacks people point at the last minority QB being Geno Smith thoughts. Tyrod Taylor to right, you know, so Gino was the first black quarterback to start a game for the Giants and then Ty, Tyrod was the first black quarterback to win a game for the Giants. So the next step is for whoever is going to be the first black quarterback drafted or minority quarterback drafted by the Giants. You did see that they decided in the draft room that Jaden Daniels was a guy that they would be willing to go get if they could, right, you did see that. So sounds like they were, you know, in the process of potentially doing that obviously we know Drake May was a guy that they really liked it were trying to get to. And, you know, getting to number two where Jaden Daniels was going was never really realistic but you did hear that conversation right so, you know, it's not, you know, obviously. The nicest way I could say it is obviously not a good look that Gino Smith and Tyrod Taylor set those marks for the Giants organization in the years that they did right not a good reflection obviously but. You know, I do think what you saw in hard knocks was consideration of Jaden Daniels. Matthew says did the incident with day ball black ball Martindale with the NFL. That's a really good question. Matthew I know one thing I know is Martindale had a ton of interest from a lot of teams in the NFL who had vacancies at DC, but how would I put this. My best read on that is that the Giants information circulating around the league was painting Martindale in a bad light or in a light at least that made people wary. So basically, as you saw before my story came out, you saw like a preemptive strike of a leak about things that went down happening in other publications and, you know, obviously coming from parts of the Giants building that wanted a certain description of a certain story out there, right. And I think that in the NFL, there's an optics game and a political battle that goes on in those types of situations where people try to kind of get their message out first or loudest in order to dictate terms. I think what happened there was the Giants did Martindale no favors in how they portrayed that situation. And how people around the league saw it and so, you know, everybody around the league knows that Martindale belongs in the NFL that, you know, like people behind the scenes understand the reality of what went down and who was to blame and who was to at fault, who was at fault there. But my best read on it too is like you have all these head coaches and guys, especially these young head coaches. They don't want to, they don't want to even be close to the hint of controversy or conflict or drama and, frankly, they want someone that they can control. And if they have a sense or an inkling or if someone's whispering in their ear that certain things happen, whether it's true or not, or cautioning them, then they maybe go the safer out, because they feel like it's not worth it to them because they want to keep their jobs. So, yeah, I do think Martindale be back in the NFL sooner rather than later, you know, assuming the Michigan thing goes well, and just, just based on his pedigree and his ability to attack NFL offenses and have success as an NFL defensive coordinator, you know, it's kind of like, if I, if I lost my job at the Daily News tomorrow, I would expect to be back at a major publication soon because I just feel like I have that kind of talent and ability, you know, it would just be the same thing. Let's see. Anybody that thinks Eli shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame is an Eagles fan. Hear me, Pat. Barbara, I will say this, growing up in Philadelphia, you didn't fear Eli Manning and the Giants, you know what I mean? Like, it wasn't a world beating team. He was at that moment in time. Now, obviously, eventually, Eli became what he was, which was an all time, like, ice in his veins winner in those two Super Bowl runs. I mean, obviously, you know, so, but you have to understand like from around the league, Eli was viewed as a guy who was very talented, but would throw a lot of interceptions, would make winning plays but also losing plays, you know, he's a 500 quarterback. That's what he was. But obviously, he will get in because he's made some last and contributions as an all time winner in the finals of NFL history. So, definitely deserves it. I mean, I don't think it should really be offensive to a Giants fan to for somebody to say Eli's a Hall of Famer, but not a first ballot because also one thing I'm basing that on Barbara too is my understanding of, you know, I think it'll be a challenging, challenging to convince people around the country, like, sure the New York writers and a lot of people in the Northeast will probably, you know, vote for Eli to get in, but you're talking about writers from around the league around the country. And he's viewed more as the quarterback he was throughout his career as a whole, then you would expect, you know, as a Giants fan, the two Super Bowls stand out to you and you're like, well, obviously he's a Hall of Famer. But when his whole resume is taken into context, that's where it becomes tricky, you know. All right, coming down the home stretch here, Anthony says, is anyone truly excited about Giants football anymore? Need a victory, need a victory, right? Ken says Giants passed on Laramie Tunsel for Eli Apple that worked out well and he's been a model citizen. Yeah, that's a good point about like their standards hurting them, yep, the marijuana, the bong hits, the gas mask right? Oh man. Yes, huge mistake. Anthony says Eli Apple's mama is more aggressive than our linebackers, Ouch. It never ends, you learn to live with it says Simeon, facts as Anthony decks deserves better says Anthony. All right, let's see. Chronicles wants Ridley. Entertainers like Herb Street and Michaels on Thursday nights. Jay says, I know everyone hates Joe Judge, but I actually heard some nice stories about him writing letters back to kids nice guy off the field blow hard on it. I like Joe Judge a lot. I think he gets a bad rap, definitely some things that he can learn from off of his stint as the Giants head coach that he could have done better. There's no doubt about it, but I think with a good offensive coordinator and alignment with a general manager, I think he would still be the coach today. User unknown says the Giants have been an embarrassment for a decade now and ownership is the problem for their failure to hire the right people. Can't yeah an ownership has to prove that they can hire better people I think user is a is one way to is one place to start like to go back to your point. I think the maras and the Tisch families, like I think one thing they need to do is. They need to make better hires. Ken says what sucks is I doubt Neil will play enough to see his progress, making exercising his fifth year option by May 2025 impossible projected option is about 15 million, which if he became a starter is not outrageous. Yeah, I mean, listen, the way that they're not using him it looks like a completely blown pick. Am I right? Yeah, fifth year option. I mean, we're talking about is this guy going to play for the team again right now. All right, Barbara, Barbara says, Pat, you're your Eagles. What looked good Monday night, especially your favorite players, Barkley and hurts in the last minute. Barbara, first of all, hold on a second. My eagle does not my Eagles like the Giants are more my team right now than the Eagles. Nobody is my team. Like, I don't have a team. This is the trade off of doing what I do for a living. It kind of sucks, you know, in a lot of ways to be honest with you, because you grow up a fan and you're a fan of sports you love sports but no, you can't you don't root for teams like I stopped rooting for teams. I told you Notre Dame football. That's my team Notre Dame football. I told you I root for the Rangers, right? But no, I do not root for a football team. I can't, I can't. I like, I like, sometimes rooting for my hunches, you know, like let's say, I don't know. Tonight, I thought Gary Wilson was going to have a big game and just kind of watching it and thinking like, all right, I kind of, you know, I think Gary Wilson is going to have a big day. I think I see this game the right way and how it's going to play out. And then if it does, you know, you're kind of like cheering for the outcome to validate how you broke the game down. Obviously doing my bookie now with a partnership with my bookie I do Pat's picks every week so look for that on social media coming tomorrow on Friday, September 20th. But all those Pat's picks are, you know, are really well thought out, you know, plays by me feeling like I have a lay of the land of what's going on in those games and what the matchups look like. And you kind of root for, you're not rooting for the teens but you're like, you know, you want your information and analysis and hard work to pay off and also make people money right so, you know, I root for that. And then I tell you this, I told you this before but I'd say this again, you wrote for like individual guys like for example on the Giants. There's a lot of the players on the Giants, you know, like, I like Daniel Jones as a person I like Darius late in a lot. I love Andrew Thomas. You know, there's there's a lot of guys on the team like I like dante dante banks a lot like a McFadden's a good dude Chris man hurts love working with him. You know, there's a there's a ton of players in the locker room. Like John run in junior. You know, I get along pretty well with most of the guys Evan Neil drew locks fun to talk to like talking to drew lock. So just a handful of guys there examples but you're killing me Barbara come on. By the way, to talk a little Eagles for a second as you brought up. You know, that's kind of like back down to earth right back down to earth for Barkley back down to earth for hurts. Back down to earth for the Eagles and let's face it. Don't the Eagles look like they're in trouble. I mean, their defense does not look good. And it looks like they're about to face the same kind of adversity that they did late last season. How is that going to go how is Sirionna going to handle it. How about the image of them playing Monday night football against the Falcons and Bill Belichick, who they flirted with in the off season, being on the sideline in a suit. Like, I mean, talk about, talk about awkward for Nick Sirionna company right. Barbara, just so you know, maybe this will confirm it for you. Like, I'll tell you this right now, my best bet of the week is the Saints covering against the Eagles in New Orleans. Because I watched that Eagles defense the last couple weeks, and I have no faith that they can go into the freaking super dome against the highest scoring team in the NFL right now. And and cover like that's insane for me to think that that would that that would happen. So that's actually my best bet is betting against your Eagles. How about that. Let's see. Matthew Kelly says, Hey, Pat, how was the relationship between John Marra and Jonathan Tisch, are they 5050 owners. If so, why do the Marra seem to make all the personnel decisions was at a condition of sale. It's Steve Tisch and John Marra are the co owners though Jonathan Tisch obviously is part of the ownership group and a part of the, you know, the, the Tisch family and Jonathan has been more prominent in recent years as Steve kind of. Stepped into the background with, you know, personal situation and personal tragedy and things of that nature. I have seen Steve around more. I saw him in Houston at the preseason game there. I do think he's locked it locked in on this season as much as I've seen him in many years. So I do think that's another reason why change could occur. I think that every time change happens here. It's usually a combination of that Steve Tisch pressing the issue on like. Let's trust what we see here, you know, and then John Marra being convinced, you know, knowing what needs to happen, but the conversation of like, okay, you know, we'll go in that direction. I want to be patient or, you know, but blah, blah, blah. Yeah, I mean, well the maras are the founding. Family of the organization so they're 50 50 but the Marra family is like the. The tradition and history going all the way, you know, back to 1925 and they're they're the founding family so. I do think that that at times Matthew you see Steve and the Tisch family flex their proverbial muscle when it comes to, you know, making people aware publicly that they are just as involved, even if they're not always getting or taking the credit. If you remember, before the Tisch family tragedy, when they fired Shermer and kept Gettleman, Steve wanted to, to clean house there. John did not so they split it and they kept Gettleman and fired Shermer, but that was when Steve vowed publicly to be present more to be around more. It's basically saying like enough is enough with this BS tire losing we can't be this of a mess of an organization. And, and then personal tragedy hits his family and exactly what he was talking about never exactly came to pass the way he was describing it with his increased involvement and presence. So we never saw that exactly like you just described. Elias says good evening Pat Elias good to see you back again. He says was looking at the division this week and we may have the easiest game they lose their matchups and we and we win. The division is all one and two. And that's big. Yes, that is true. So what he's talking about is you have giants at Browns. You have Eagles at Saints. You have the Cowboys hosting the Ravens and you have the commanders at the Bengals. So I think I think it's fair to say that the commanders are obviously losing. And that the Eagles and as I said in my opinion based on the defense I keep seeing them trot out on the field. I don't see how you could pick them to win that game right now as constituted. Especially because I'm I believe AJ Brown supposed to miss like a couple weeks, you know, not just not just that one game there. So that leaves the Cowboys and the Ravens now. They're funny because that's a match up of two teams who both play better with the lead, right. Although the Ravens just cough, cough up a lead against the Raiders, but you know the Cowboys being home dogs. I mean, I like the Cowboys there. I think the Ravens are in trouble. Of course, you know, I'm sure Lamar run for 300 yards, it proved me wrong. But your point is your point is a good one is that the Eagles, Cowboys and commanders. At least two out of three look like losses in division. And then you have the Dallas Cowboys and the Ravens kind of a coin flip there out in Arlington, Texas. So if the Giants can get a win, then they can get everybody to one and two. That is true. And then, of course, you have the pivotal Dallas Cowboys Thursday night visit. Let's just see here. Who else we got. All right. Okay, let's get back into the queue. Thanks for all the super chats and super stickers Elias, the latest one to drop one in. Thank you so much. All right. All right. Stephen says, when we beat the Eagles, do you think it was more the coaching scene, what their deficiencies are from their side or more the Eagles just not playing well. They wanted the game more or less to stop skid. Stephen, good question. Two things just stood out to me in that game. Number one, the Eagles were a mess. Obviously, there was a lot of dysfunction going on with them, and it was translating to their lack of execution. The other thing was Martin Dale was essentially laying out the blueprint for everybody of how to defend jail and hurts, which was blitz him on his throwing side. So from his right, you know, defenses left, pressure him on his throwing arm, force him to roll to his left and throw from that side while moving to his left. That's what he doesn't want to do. He doesn't do it as well. And Martin Dale did that and then Todd Bowles did something similar in the playoff game where the Eagles got run off the face of the earth in that in that playoff game. Let's see. Dave G says, I just don't think Hyatt is any good. It's possible. Gary says, Pat L, I appreciate your work and information. You always had courage from the beginning, but I noticed they take your confidence for arrogance, getting to know you with your work and lives. You're cool. Thank you, Gary. I appreciate that. Yeah, I believe me being arrogant as in my profession. I mean, listen, you get put in in my position or in our position doing this job because it's so public. And you're also, if you're doing it right in my opinion, you're sticking your neck out and like giving opinions and, you know, basing your information or basing your opinions in fact and analysis and reporting. You end up in a defensive situation or posture sometimes because you feel like people are coming after you or out to get to you or constantly insulting you and that can make you sometimes get your backup, but I think being arrogant in my position, I think is a silly thing to be, you know, like, I hope I'm never arrogant. And if I ever am, I hope somebody calls me out on it, but I try to be just genuine and direct. I, Gary, I personally think a lot of it is just that teams are used to crafting the message and getting their way or controlling how people think or act and then some people do their jobs to go the easy route like to not make noise like their content, you know, waking up nine to five and then clocking in and clocking out and that's fine, not judging anybody. But I, I want to do my job, move, you know, improve, grow, do more, you know, never stay stagnant. It's just how I approach things and I hope it's bringing a lot of information and entertainment to you guys and in these chats and thank you for saying that Gary about my work. A lot of people don't like flat as a player, he definitely had a really tough game. Jay Farris thinks that he could hit on all of his draft picks this year we'll see that's a good right yep. He says the great Joe Shane in response to the draft talk. MJ says Hyatt needs to split reps with slate and at the minimum, flat shouldn't play not Joe is no good either we need another detackle next to decks and Thibodeau and Burns need to wake up. I will say I did see on Wednesday, Wednesday's practice. Do you ever have to deal with a nose roller? How about a snub bully? Well, if you're installing a new conveyor belt system, dealing with the different components can sound like you're speaking a foreign language. Luckily, you've got a team ready to help. Granger's technical product specialists are fluent in maintenance, repair and operations. So whenever you want to talk shop, just reach out. Call clickgranger.com or just stop by Granger for the ones who get it done. Joe Shane, Chris Rossetti, Brian Dable, Ronnie Barnes, very closely standing the four together watching the one on ones between the O linemen and D linemen. I don't know why or what they were looking at there specifically but was just an interesting scene, something I hadn't seen like them out like that standing standing like that evaluating with us at practice in a little while. Barbara likes Dable better than Shane, Jay likes Shane. Let's see. A2Z me says it's been a while since the Jets were a better team than the Giants but here we are. Jay Farrie says I would love to subscribe but it's so difficult so many subscriptions today, tough to pick. Jay, a subscription here to the channel doesn't cost anything. Subscribing to my YouTube channel doesn't cost anything. It's just it's just clicking on following to be a subscriber. I don't charge for memberships on the channel. I mean, you know, who knows, down the road, if it gets big enough and we need to, you know, rein it in and make it. Exclusive for the loyal followers. I don't know if that'll ever come to pass but I know a lot of our followers and listeners and viewers here have told me that memberships is kind of a silly extra step that's not necessary and frankly a lot of you guys are so supportive here with super chats and I know some of you have bought boom chaga bags and you know, I know some of you guys are going to continue to support by signing up for my bookie signing up for a state 98 buy the bag of boom chaga so I appreciate those. That's support but yeah, Jay, you can just subscribe to the channel. You don't have to, you don't have to show, you know, you don't have to pay to subscribe to the YouTube channel. Bombo says I'm sick of Joe Shane and Brian Dable seems like everybody who has left the Giants has had bad blood with this regime. Suddenly, sequon and slate and were treated like problem guys, wink and calf cut one it out. Exactly, bombbo well said, well said. Let me read that again, because bombbo seems to be paying attention. I'm sick of Joe Shane and Brian Dable seems like everybody who has left the Giants has had bad blood with this regime. Suddenly, sequon and slate and were treated like problem guys, wink and calf go one it out. Let's see, he agrees with the draft picks, pack out the evil eye treatment as I did. Let's see, Barry says I hated how Joe Shane seems to love the camera so much on hard knocks and nobody else would participate with the show like he wants a CBS job next year not going to lie interesting. Simian says Dable has blockers in the press. Barbara says hat pad, how do you feel about the Eagles never hiring a minority GM? No, I mean, that would be something that would be overdue, right, for sure. I think Jerry Reese, I believe was the first for the Giants, right. And so, you know, that would be overdue as well. I would imagine, you know, the Eagles would be a team, you know, having had a blackhead coach, having had, you know, black coordinators. And, you know, several black quarterbacks over the years and decades. I would imagine that, you know, black GM, if and when how he roseman's run is over, you know, that that would be something that for sure in this day and age in the year we are here and now. I think all of these teams understand now that it's important to be progressive enough in the hiring practices and in the interview room and, you know, Barbara, you and I both know, though. That the Rooney rule and all of these rules and constant, like the Brian Flores lawsuit, these things happen for a reason, because there are teams out there that don't follow these rules because they have back channel conversations behind the scenes and they make deals before they even interview a single freaking candidate, you know what I mean. So those rules exist for a reason. Jay says Martin Dale is like Rob Ryan talented older guy now content big ego, ego weird situation. See Jay that's inaccurate. That is that is following the information spread that is coming from certain people with a certain, you know, storyline and narrative that they want out there but I can tell you that that's not what happened here in New York. Let's see, Montana says I watched a giant through the late 60s and 70s I'm having that strange feeling in my childhood all over again. It was bad back then. Ken says I'm sure the athletic is thrilled to be paying two people to cover a three and 14 team maybe Charlotte gets moved to cover the nicks soon. I have no idea about their business model there but yeah. Jay says I live in California I used to sneak into sports bars in the 90s to watch Dave Brown and Kent Graham play nice. Simeon says a lot of markets view Eli is having two lucky runs yeah exactly that's what I mean it's different between this area and other areas. Iconic says do you think neighbors might have his OBJ moment on Thursday night football against the Dallas Cowboys. I think he might have to, you know, I think you might have to. You know that's going to be that's going to be the night where I think the Giants either these next two games it's either save the season or it all comes crashing down. That's really what we're looking at. Dallas looks vulnerable but again you want to take a lead on them you want to make them play from behind then you can do that kind of stuff and unlock that type of stuff. But if you fall behind on the Cowboys early as the Giants are prone to do their pass rush their run game and then play action passing off of their run game. Then it becomes, you know, almost impossible as we've seen for the Giants in recent years. Barbara says Pat Mahomes through multiple interceptions and multiple Super Bowls yet still won and through for 180 yards that's luck. Barbara I hope you're not comparing Patrick Mahomes and Eli Manning as players in the NFL right now because all due respect to Eli Manning Super Bowl runs and he was incredible in them but Patrick Mahomes right now is on track. To potentially be the best quarterback of all time like not quite not quite equal there but obviously he's still young so so has to prove it throughout. Montana says if we finish with five wins one of the chess moves. If five wins I think it's like, you know, it's like the parents coming home to their to their high school kid throwing a house party that they didn't know about. It's like I flipped the lights on and it's everybody out. Jay says Eagles are going to nuke here in a bit watch. Yeah, no, I really do think the Eagles could be in real big trouble. Barbara likes Notre Dame to go Irish. Let's see. Montana says how does your wife handle all the hours you work. Yeah, no it's difficult she works as well. But it's a team effort, you know, us with the kids it's both of us keeping our calendars staying in. You know, close communication about when one person has a call or an interview or. You know, has to be on zoom let's say or I'm doing a podcast and making sure we're not in each other's way in that regard. But also supporting and collaborating. The late nights can hear like this can be tough, but, you know, also this is. This is a lot of times like unwind time right this type this time of night. So unwind time becomes for me just a little bit more work at the end of the day. And to be honest with you, you know, working at the Daily News. This sometimes is like on other nights can be like research time, you know, or working ahead and writing a story ahead of time. So, you know, she's work she's used to me working a lot and let's face it. It's like it's almost like a it's a blessing that I'm home more covering football because before we had kids in a family, I was covering the Rangers. And covering any other pro sport like hockey, basketball, baseball, especially which I never did full time covering any of those sports. It you're on the road all the time. And so my wife and I are used to if we have to communicating very well while we're not in person together. But obviously better to be home around more like I am now. And I'm just doing something remote where I'm still here and still available. So that's the that's a silver lining. But thanks for asking. Because I know she appreciates that you guys are thinking of her. Brett says get on that Daniel Jones train pat before it leaves come back player of the decade love the optimism Brett. He goes as fire everyone and get Detroit OC please Ben Johnson interesting you guys should watch Clint Kubiak saints offense to now because he's definitely a name that is that is getting added to the league wide list. Right. Based on how that offense is performing. Barbara says I think there are a lot of people around here that started liking the Giants in around 2014. Barbara I'm not speaking for you but I know for me I think of these teams a lot right in my like the 90s and 2000s because now I'm for I'm 40 years old. So I used to be I used to be the young guy and now I'm the I'm the middle age guy. And there's a and there are a lot of fans that are that started way way later than I did. And that's the other thing too. That's a portion of the fan base that's really fed up because you are fed up if you're a longtime Giants fan who you know hate seeing what's happened to the franchise. You're also fed up though if you're a younger fan who started rooting for the team in 2014 and you're like what am I watching right. So there's different ways of being disappointed depending on your perspective. Let's see. Barbara says okay Pat I forgive you with the Eagles call out I hope the Saints win someday hun. Yeah that'll make me look smart right come on. D kit oh no D kit is down in the dumps D kit says oh well I guess we have a game this week I've been listening Pat I just haven't had the strength to comment tonight. Got my estate 98 today did you try it D kit I hope you did if not let me know next talking ball live how you like it. Let's see. Okay Matthew says stranger than Belichick on the sideline at the Eagles game is that he had his lap dog Matt Patricia into especially since Patricia was a disaster with the Eagles last year. That was interesting that was very interesting and had to be uncomfortable for some people there. Brett says Pat after week one I feel better going into this game than the commander's game last week online looks really decent I think we win. You know I personally think I I'll feel like you do if they if they if they show well and they show well and win against Cleveland. Then then I'll feel like you do now because watching that Washington game I thought Washington was a pretty bad team. And even with them being a bad team they committed so many penalties that if they didn't come that if they didn't commit. It could have been a real blowout. So we'll see I'll feel like you do now in a week if the Giants show it in Cleveland it's time for them to show it. Good night thanks for being here. Yes Jay Farri is exactly yeah why every fan base is hyper bullish about every preseason game it's marketing yeah no exactly no I'm just being clear I'm not even blaming you for having a certain vantage point of Martindale that you have or whatever. I'm just saying you know I have enough information about the team and the league that I cover where if I'm telling you here's the way one thing is and here here it's not but someone else wants that perception out there. That's just my information that I'm sharing with you like you could do with that whatever you want but that's just you know it's fine to disagree or if you feel like you got information somewhere else you trust differently but you know that's why these constructive conversations are fun. Oh you're talking about the newspapers subscription at the daily news I got it. You said big blue banter was trying to do a Patreon channel paid of course hmm interesting yeah. No for me if I ever did something like it would I think it would just be a full out like website like my own website with everything you know like my writing my podcast my video my audio my bonus content all that kind of stuff. That's to me would be like a worth paying subscription model you know what I mean like a talking ball with Pat Leonard like full on site. That would be if I as you said would it be worth it to be solo like that would be you know the solo idea. Brett says do it Jay Pat is the man on the inside yeah no you you'd love it. I think you'll love the the daily news subscription. Let's see. Ken Peters says BJ Hill for Billy Price was another dagger imagine Hill next to decks yes. Terrible trade. Dave Gettleman not taking care of the online panic move there before the season. Speaking of a blackhead coach Brian Flores was the dude Giants fan hardcore to no doubt. Let's see bills throwing in some information in the chat there thank you bill for like pricing and how prices rise or what you can get for a certain amount of time at the daily news so you can check the queue with the comments right now. Bill's educating you what the daily news subscription looks like online. Brett says two more weeks for table shame that I'm out I have to keep my word of week for no confidence yet. Jay says oh and four post game questions I don't think Pat's getting Christmas cards from g men players staff. If they're on for after that Dallas game everyone's going to be asking the question I asked last week. Brett says he can ask table if he wears his kitten mittens to bed at night. Let's see. Brett says giants since 86 I was 10 and I'm in Delaware the only fan surrounded by e-glets. D kit says bottom line is I just don't like the management or the coach and the way they run my team. It's something I've been feeling the last bunch of years makes it hard to root for my team. I totally understand that Jay Farry says I came from Germany in 1987 first thing I saw on TV was Monday night football Jim Burt with a fumble six been my favorite team since cool. Brett says Bowen didn't adapt at all in the second half horizontal game in the run killed us what happens this week. He ends up committing pressure and bodies to the run game and I think it either works and they put pressure on Watson and fluster and stop the run. Or it opens their secondary to be susceptible to a you know some downfield passing and the run game works and it kind of all crumbles. Let's see. Mark says if when the Shane Dable regime fails or falls I'd love to read a deep dig from you on how it unraveled like how could they have been so adept at scraping the waiver wire in 2022 and so bad at drafting. Mark great point. We're probably headed in that direction unless things turn around. But you know time for things to turn around but it has to happen now. Do you think Mara would make mid season changes and what might it takes as Montana. Yeah I think with Dable that's possible this early stretch run if it continues to get embarrassing and they continue to lose and you know you don't see their first win come for a while like I think Dable could be out mid season. And then Joe Shane I don't know I mean not like it's not like John Mara to really fire a GM in season. The only time he did it was when they bench Eli Manning for Geno Smith with Jerry Reese. I guess it's possible based on kind of the. This comfort like the uncomfortable situations watching Joe Shane and Mara during hard knocks looking at how this team is assembled and looking how the fans are reacting. I think that's one thing people just have to stop overlooking with this is like when they say why would people get fired or why would you know. Look at how the fans and some of you right look at how the fans reacted and behaved in week one at home against the Vikings. If it doesn't get better. Look at imagine what that Dallas Cowboys game on Thursday night could become for a job security. Matthew says Pat what do you think of these Thursday night games rarely seem to be competitive. Yeah, I mean, I like as a football fan that football is on an extra night. That's what I like. But yeah, the not being on is a or not being competitive is obviously not fun for any job, you know, Sunday game Sunday night game Monday night game Thursday night game. Not a fan of not a fan of a, you know, lack of competitive games. Absolutely not. Also, frankly, I think I, I think I belong on a broadcast like that. Like, I think when the Giants and Cowboys are here next week, I think I should be a part of their broadcast. And so these broadcasts, I'm a little tired of seeing them without me on it because I think I should be on. That's just, that's just my opinion. D kit says Pat, you have to be really bad at your job to create the reasonable perception that you are fighting for your job entering week three that's quite an indictment when you really think about it 100%. And again, D kit, it is and you and I both know this. This is about, it's not week three of one season it's week, you know, I don't know how many weeks it is but it's, it's year three, right. It's, or if you, if you really talked about how bad everything has been since, like let's say the playoff loss to the Eagles on, you could say this is, you know, a season and a half in of just unacceptable non competitive for the most part football right so. Yeah, for sure. But this is, I told you guys before the season tense locker room knows people's jobs are on the line if it doesn't happen now, people could lose their jobs right it's, it's all hovering over them from the beginning. Jay says big respect for patliner no super chats for an hour and still talking with us. Thank you. You got a J, no problem, no problem. You're right. You know, could I could have more super chats tonight but it's okay. It all evens out in the end. People are very supportive. I will say this though Jay to your point. These super chats when, or these, these live chats, especially the post games when they get crowded, it's hard to get to all the questions here and as this channel continues to grow, it will be harder. And even like somebody asked earlier about how does your wife feel about doing these right. These talking about lies we're doing like two and a half hours, a lot of the time, it might be something where eventually we'll have to taper it down to something like an hour and a half, or, or an hour, or whatever it is, you know, like to be more efficient. And so when those things happen, whether there's too many people in a chat in a post game, or whether it's starting to shorten them just to be more reasonable about it for podcasts purposes for life purposes. Then that's when you're talking about, you got to pay for a super chat or else you might not get your question asked like so we will get to that point we have gotten to that point. Like I think that after the first regular season game that's what we saw, which is I couldn't get to everything so it was super chats and that was it. But I appreciate it and yeah no problem no expectations. Jay to be honest, you know super chats are great but I also really what it really helps me. If anybody who's listening or watching or tuning in, you know, buys a bag of boom chaga with that with that code on the subscribe and save the talk about 25 buys a buy one get one free order of a state 98 with that. With that estate 98 link and the talking ball estate 98 link and signs up for an account with my bookie like those are the things that tell the sponsors who are supporting the channel that it's worth it because the money's coming back to them. So that's that's the most supportive thing at all of all, but you know the super chats are amazing and I really appreciate it and it helps live in the chat. And I really can't thank you guys enough I say this all the time but I love doing this. I love doing this and I love collaborating with you guys. And Pat I need a break thanks bud and he checks out with a $10 super chat DK thank you so much as always. He says how about a win on Sunday wouldn't that be nice. Wouldn't it. I'm dying for one to DK seriously. Ken Peters checks in with five bucks as well Ken been a good contributor to the chat tonight I really appreciate you. Thank you for weighing in with that. Thank you so much guys. Michael says good evening pat question. Who do you think is to blame here table or the GM I think it's both. I think the roster isn't good enough there are clear deficiencies corner interior defensive line. Still want to see if this offensive line is for real right against the D line like Cleveland's. I think the offense is limited right limited options. Can they run the ball effectively consistently. Of obviously the poor drafts for Joe Shane for the most part. And then Brian Dable with game management issues losing games that the team should win. And also the defensive scheme feeling like it's not putting guys in the right position. Let's see. Brett says one day on Theo Johnson should get a lot involved a lot more this week. I wish hi it would get a shot. They definitely have to spread the wealth a little bit because here's one thing about this game that everybody should know. The Cleveland Browns are not going to let. They're not going to let you know the Giants force feed Malik neighbors like that. They're going to have to use more options and I think. With the running game probably not being as effective against the D lines again they're going to have to open up guys like guandale Theo Johnson use those other weapons Brett I think you're absolutely right. You know let Jalen hide out like let him run let him let him stretch let him stretch those legs you know what I mean. By the way guys on my audio feed. So if you subscribe to the channel talking ball with Pat Leonard on Spotify or Apple or wherever you get your podcasts. I went on the dog check podcast it's a Cleveland Browns podcast on the Believe network with Eric Metcalf and Spencer the host there so it's Spencer and Eric. And I talked and it's like an exes and those kind of full full fledged rounded well rounded Browns break Browns Giants breakdown of the game from both of our ends. And I think it's a really fun and fascinating listen we I've gotten a lot of good feedback already from the Cleveland side of things so you know check that out maybe a good Friday morning listen pop that pop in your air pods as you're going for a run or you're starting work or you're headed to your office or wherever you're going. It's the dog check is the name of the podcast but you can access it like I said through my my audio. If you subscribe and you're downloading my podcast there. You'll see it should be at the moment the top podcast there. Let's see. Brett says Pat I'm just glad people weren't calling for DJs head all week he's starting to relax back there yeah I hope that continues for him. Let's see. Bill appreciate that he says make sure it makes sense if I have to go a little shorter on these yep appreciate that might have to might have to tighten them up a little bit. Jay estate 98 is a coffee concentrates so basically it comes in a bottle and you took put like a tablespoon in a glass with ice and put water in it and stir. And it's so potent and can and consolidated the coffee in that little concentrate that that makes a full cup of ice coffee. And so you can also use it for mixers like for espresso martinis and stuff like that like you really like it. If you were the GM would you have made a Barkley deal work Montana a yes I mean I did I did agree that it was like you needed to draw a line in the sand of how far you were going to go. But, but I also thought say Juan was worth more to the Giants as constructed as a team than other teams, like without him what were they versus if he went to other place as like a luxury piece right. I thought they needed him more than somebody else. Also if I were the GM I tell you what I wouldn't have done is alienated him and ostracized him and ostracized other players observing how I'm handling that situation in the process which is really the big, the big part of it. Thank you for all the super chats as well. And right before I get out of here I'll answer these last few questions. D kit says I meant to ask was Simmons personal day non football discontent related as far as you know I forgot to ask I don't know that the kid talked earlier about this I said, I know Simmons lost his best friend from Clemson a couple weeks ago. I don't know if it has has to do with that I know he was broken up personally about that big time. Was kind of putting on a strong face and maybe facade but could be hurting might have been services related to that I don't know, obviously though his discontent with his playing time. The first week and then playing but in a limited fashion last week. Could be related to that I mean he was at practice on Wednesday and then not there right. So continuing to do work and research and for and reporting on that. Montana says I can't blame Brian Dable for the kicking issue last week hand strength can pop up anytime. No, I totally disagree with that. Growing injury was banged up and I blame Dable and Shane there as well. Also you just need to you need a contingency plan you need to help your team protect your team. Ken says do you think Shane or Joe Douglas will ever get another GM job if fired this year or next. No. Socrates says I don't know about anyone else but to me it kind of looks like the O line is way ahead of the D line terms of performance O line coach seems like he's got his guys operating like a unit. Socrates I would agree with that I agree that the O line looks like it is being better coached than the defensive line right now I think that's a really good point. I do want to see them do it one more time here against a really good defensive line in Cleveland to confirm what we saw starting to develop in Washington is for real. And that's what Chris Manhertz told me we can get out on this. So D kids says irony of the year wide receivers O line and QB not the root of the problem right now. Well that was week two right week one was another story but we'll go we'll leave you with this. Chris Manhertz told me the tight end who's a big part of their plan right on the field a lot blocking a lot big part of what they do. Chris told me that the best teams he's been on they don't overreact to results they don't respond to outcomes they stick with processes. And he said that on offense it's important to have a bread and butter something that you can go to that you know you can rely on and that you know can help open up the rest of the offense and for them he said that's the running game. And he said we did it in Washington but the good teams do it again. And again and again. And that's what the Giants are trying to become consistently competitive it starts up front starts on the line of scrimmage starts with the coach starts with the defensive coordinator starts with the offensive play call and head coach and starts with Joe Shane and roster decisions game management decisions from table and the way that the way that this team either responds and believes or backs down and folds. It's going to be interesting. It's going to be interesting to see which way that goes Montana says I like that you're a straight shooter and not a people pleaser and Montana you've brought some really good questions and comments today too so I appreciate you being here. I hope to see all of you on talking ball post game live from Cleveland on Sunday. I come out of the locker room. I file my story for the daily news then we go live. Usually it's about 90 minutes after the game. I might make it two hours after the game that we start depending on you know how significant of a change comes out of the end of the game versus the story that I write right at the running so we'll see. But be ready about 90 minutes after the Cleveland Browns game to go live with me. Yes can duo blocks are working up front for the line Brett says Oh line looks good. Haha. What year is it. I agree. Yeah need to see more though need to see more needed to see it consistently. Bill says thanks for the show. Thank you guys. And like I said Chris man Hertz said the good teams do it again and again and again. See you guys next time. See you on Sunday on talking ball live.
