What a world we live in! Our hunter-gatherer ancestors, even our agrarian ancestors, would be amazed! Hunting for food is as easy as going to the grocery store, or punching a few buttons, and someone brings food to us. We can plan our modern hunting trip by looking at some pliers, then secure all the necessities as quickly as we can walk around a store. No need to make weapons, stalk prey, hope to be lucky enough to bring it down, then clean it and get it home to be processed and cooked. Nope, just pick from one of several varieties of every single product and throw it in the pantry or freezer. You bring home food every time. I think about this every year as hunting season kicks in, and inevitably someone decries the cruelty of hunting. A buddy just sent me a picture of an elk he shot this week. Elk is fantastic eating, and not the easiest animal to get. The difference between hunting and going to the grocery store is the intimately honest relationship a hunter has with their food. As compared to those who never get closer to the animal they're eating, then unwrapping the plastic that its package didn't.
