[MUSIC] >> Good morning everyone. Welcome to the Don Lemon Show. This is Hot Topics where we get you caught up on everything that's happening so that you can start your day and continue along your day, at least being informed on what's going on. Unfortunately, today we're going to be talking about some pretty heavy stuff, some things that happened over the weekend. And we wake up and we are very, very fortunate this morning. So is the former president. The Secret Service foiled a second attempted assassination on the former president, Donald Trump, yesterday. Look, you may not like the man, he may not be your cup of tea. You may not like him politically, but you can recognize that this is a terrible situation. It's destabilizing politically for his family, for the country, for everyone. So I'm going to break all of this down. Also, we're going to talk about what does this mean? Anything for gun legislation now? This guy had an AK style weapon that we always talk about these AR-15, these AK style weapons. Does this mean anything for sensible gun legislation? Or is this again just thoughts and prayers? Or is it now it's not the time to talk about it? We'll get into all of that. Okay, so the former president, Donald Trump, was a target. Apparently, with the FBI appears to say it is an attempted assassination, that was at his golf course in West Palm Beach, it happened on Sunday, just nine weeks after he was, someone tried to kill him in Pennsylvania, right? It was another attempt on his life in Pennsylvania. The US Secret Service station, a few holes up from where Trump was playing, notice that the muzzle of an AK style rifle sticking through the shrubbery that lines the golf course in Florida, roughly 400 yards away. An agent fired at the gunman, we were told, the gunman fled in an SUV, leaving the fire behind. They were able to get a picture and his license plate number and they tracked him down. He also left two backpacks, he left a scope and also a GoPro camera, a scope for Amy, a GoPro camera. And then the Palm Beach County sheriff, his name is Rick Bradshaw, said that the man was later stopped by law enforcement in the neighboring county. The person detained his name is Ryan Wessley-Routh. We're going to talk about Ryan Wessley-Routh or Ruth, Ryan Wessley-Routh. According to three law enforcement sources, Ruth who owns a small construction company in Hawaii, he wrote on social media that he had supported Trump in 2016. He later criticized Trump saying that it was time for him to go, that he was disappointed in. And the same thing on social media. He is a staunch supporter of Ukraine. He also was a proponent of Haley, of Nikki Haley in Vivek, Wama Swami as a ticket in the GOP primary. He said that he wanted to support them, not, we'll discuss. Was that part of the reason that he wanted to get Donald Trump out of the way? Is it good because he supported that ticket? So here's the thing, this is this morning, a morning Joe talking about the secret service. You know there's an investigation going on as to what happened nine weeks ago in Butler, Pennsylvania, a big investigation for the Secret Service. So that is happening now. The Secret Service by all accounts, at least at this moment, appears to have done the right thing. Discussion now, this morning on Morning Joe, watch. And you know again, this is as as Jonathan O'Mear said, this has happened throughout our history. Unfortunately, Gerald Ford had three attempts on his life in the mid 70s. Bill Clinton had one incident after another incident after another incident, which actually ultimately ended up in the closing of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. These things happen. As Tom said, Mika, we got 50 days, threats, threat level is high against Donald Trump. Threat level is high against Kamala Harris. The threat level is high. And right now, you know, again, as badly as as they did in Butler, Pennsylvania, the Secret Service did their job commendably yesterday. Everybody from Donald Trump to the sheriff of Palm Beach County, everybody involved is saying the same thing. They just need more resources. Lindsey Graham quoted the New York Times today saying that they work around the clock. They need more resources. There need to be more people. They've got to figure out a way over the next 50 days to to to to team up with other law enforcement agencies with local law enforcement agencies and protect these presidential candidates. And then Congress does. We got it. So here's the thing. So they've got to obviously keep the presidential candidates, the former president, the current president, vice president and so on. They have to keep them safe. So they're going to have to figure that out. But they're also going to have to figure out some gun legislation, which no one ever wants to talk about. Why did this person who by all accounts appears to be a disturbed a disturbed person? Why would he have access to an AK style weapon? Why would he be? Why? How could he get so close to the former president? That's a whole another story. But we keep talking about this. Maybe this person has mental issues. Maybe we need to talk about that. Maybe they're deranged. Maybe so on and so on and so on about the incendiary rhetoric. Now, none of this is an excuse for what happened. This should not happen. We want everyone to be safe, including Donald Trump, if you don't like him, including Kamala Harris, if you don't like her. But to just blame this on rhetoric, I think there's there's some credence to that. And you have to look at where that rhetoric is coming from. Again, no excuse. But almost every day, quite honestly, Donald Trump says something incendiary. But to have Republicans saying that, oh, they're blaming Kamala Harris or they're blaming Barack Obama, or they're blaming Tim Walts, really? Donald Trump calls people the enemy of the people all the time, enemies to this country. He put the press in the metaphorical bull's eye by saying the press was the enemy of the people. Again, I'm not saying that there's an excuse, but if you're going to talk about lowering rhetoric, you need to look at where that rhetoric is mostly coming from. And that is coming from Donald Trump. If you want to talk about trying to stop these situations and you need to talk about sensible gun laws and stop politicizing the gun issue and saying that people want to take your guns. No one wants to take your guns. If you can't, if you look, if you don't care, I don't know if anything is going to happen. If you don't care about keeping children safe in schools, if that's not going to change anything, I'm sure an attempt, another attempt on Donald Trump's life or on anyone's life, I don't know if that's going to change anything. Now, I love how Joe Scarborough contextualizes. He said Ford had three assassination attempts. You know what happened with Ronald Reagan, right? His life was attempted. They attempted to kill him. Bill Clinton had many assassination attempts, as well as other presidential candidates, and Kamala Harris also has credible, you know, at least credible and not attacks on her life, but threats, okay? So we want to keep everyone safe, but we have to keep this in context. Now, let's discuss this guy because they keep saying, you know, as I said, the Democrats need to stop their rhetoric, okay? You want to believe that? Everyone should lower the temperature, but where are those starts coming from? And the last two people remember, as I said, I said this just last week, I believe, when we had the Georgia school shooting, that this is a white male problem, mostly a young white male problem. This guy is older. He's in his 50s. But you've got these people who the last two at least appear to have Republican leanings. Now, I know that he was registered, I believe, in the last election or so as a Democrat, possibly because he was so upset with Donald Trump and his actions that he changed. But he voted for Donald Trump in 2016. He supported Vivek Wama Swami and Nikki Haley. And the last shooter was apparently a member of MAGA. Brian Krasnstein on social media making a really good effort to explain this. You've got to stop saying that it's Democrats. Really important. Democrats, please stop calling Trump the enemy like this. He's an enemy of the state. You want to know the truth? The enemy of the state is him and the group that controlled him. It's very likely that it could cause another person who voted for Trump in 2016 and supported Nikki Haley and Vivek Wama Swami in 2024 to try and harm him. Thank you. The point is, stop politicizing it. Stop politicizing it because Democrats can say if they wanted to, why are Donald Trump's people trying to hurt him? Why are they trying to hurt him? That would be politicizing it. So let's just be real about this. This is not like some crazy pussy hat wearing person. Obviously, he's deranged. So let's just be honest though about where this rhetoric is coming from and then maybe we can fix the problem. More rhetoric, sadly, which is coming from out of people in high places and about the situation that's happening in Springfield, Ohio or the lies that's happening in Springfield, Ohio because vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance was on Sunday and he continued to push all of these falsehoods about Haitian immigrants in Springfield, Ohio and he made the rounds on these political talk shows really guaranteeing a longer shelf life for conspiracies that are tearing that community apart. The people there are so upset about that. Now he's doing this despite the fact that everyone from Ohio's Republican governor Mike DeWine to actual Springfield residents are begging him to stop and they are denouncing his lies as racist, baseless conspiracy theories. That's what they're saying. So I just want to show you this okay and then I'll tell you about what sources are saying inside of the Trump campaign. Now this is J.D. Vance really advancing and highlighting these conspiracy theories, this lie and basically you know what he's saying? He's admitting that he made up this story. He's admitting that he made up this story and he says as much as he spoke to my former colleague and friend Danna Bash over on CNN yesterday. Watch the media totally ignored this stuff until Donald Trump and I start talking about cap means. If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people then that's what I'm going to do Danna. You just said that you're creating a story. Public policy. Sorry you just said that you're creating the story. What's that Danna? You just said that this is a story that you created. So the eating dog we are creating we are Danna. It comes from firsthand accounts from my constituents. I say that we're creating a story meaning we're creating the American media focusing on it. Now did you I'm just saying he admits there that he's creating the story. Now I've heard some Republican apparatchers trying to explain to you know what they believe he was trying to say that he needed to get the story out there because he believed that his constituents that there was some issues with his constituents and that that the issues were not being highlighted. So that's why he created this sort of not the story but he created this situation in the media so that the media could talk about it. I don't really get it but he's saying I needed I created it despite all the facts the city manager and even the governor Mike Dewine saying that migrants are not eating people. Here's the governor. The question I never thought I would have to ask but do you see any evidence as governor of the state that Haitian immigrants are eating pets? No absolutely not that's what the mayor said that's what the chief of police has said I think it's unfortunate that this this came up. Let me tell you what we do know though what we know is that the Haitians who are in Springfield are legal. They came to Springfield to work. Ohio is on the move and Springfield has really made a great resurgence with a lot of companies coming in. These Haitians came in to work for these companies what the companies tell us is that they are very good workers they're very happy to have them there and frankly that's helped the economy. Okay there we go so the governor is admitting this issue right when you have that much of an influx and so those are issues that you can talk about right you don't have to politicize them you can figure out how to make it work if they're indeed contributing to the economy which the governor says that they are and why would the governor lie about that but just remember what JD Van said that he was creating a story now he said that and he admitted and Dan had called him out on it right the governor saying it's a lie it's not happening. Josh Shapiro the governor of Pennsylvania who appeared on Dan's program right after JD Van's was flummoxed and shocked that he actually admitted something like that on not national but international television. Here's Josh Shapiro. To get to but first your response to what you heard from Senator JD Van. I mean Dan that was bonkers. Listen the governor of Ohio the mayor of that town in Ohio has said this is all made up these are all lies there's no truth to it and the United States senator from Ohio just came on your show and blamed his own constituents for his own lies. This guy is so pathetic but the thing is it is dangerous. There is a causal connection between the BS that JD Vance and Donald Trump spew and the safety and security of the American people. When they go out and they lie about this stuff they put their fellow Americans at risk. JD Vance should be ashamed of himself. He knows better. I mean this guy whether he's on your show or he's in some sports bar where I mean by the way a total pick me in that sports bar the other day he just doesn't understand the power of his words the power of his lies and those lies are putting people at risk. This is Josh Shapiro has a point it's putting people at risk and the people of Springfield wanted to stop they know it's putting them at risk and they're saying it's putting them in it's it's painting a picture of them that's it that's inaccurate and they're sick of it. Remember they had to shut the schools down there was a government building that had to be shut down residents one resident now. You're a bunch of savage. Don't do that. That's the great. If you want to wreck a town, go ahead and do that kind of print really. Now you know we got people there are so many jokes on the internet right now you better hide your cats hide your dogs hide your what they might be getting eaten. Really come on. There's no reason for anyone to be saying that they're killing the ducks taking them on hooking them. I'm sorry it's not happening. We really aren't the center of the universe. You all are making us the center of the universe. She's right. With the crazy ideal that people are eating dogs and cats and pets and whatever it is. Yeah so she's right it's JD Vance and Donald Trump and people like Laura Loomer who Vance talked about on Meet the Press. Shift to another topic. I've been talking to allies of former President Trump who are frankly outraged they're alarmed that Donald Trump has been traveling with Laura Loomer. She is someone who says she supports white nationalism. She spread conspiracy theories including that the September 11th attacks are inside job. Can we stop that right there please? Can we stop that right there? I'm going to play that leave it right there. I'm going to play that last because that that I want to put that one into more better context. But this is Al Sharpton on Morning Joe I want to play when he's responding to this resident and what exactly is happening in Springfield and how it is a racist attack by the former president and the vice presidential candidate and the senator from Ohio JD Vance. Watch Al Sharpton on Morning. Fortunately and you hear religious leaders talking about this you hear local officials in Springfield talking about this. There is now the threat of violence the fear of violence bomb threats bomb threats against people in Springfield. They have literally had to close the schools and cancel town hall meetings because of these threats and when you look at the fact that he is not admitting they made up a story as you say quoting him that the media wouldn't cover maybe the media didn't cover it because there was no story it didn't exist. But again this is consistent with Trump's campaign. Let's not forget Donald Trump as president called Haiti and several African countries as whole countries. You also have to put into the factor in that if you are someone that is anti Haitians in Springfield or coming in to think you're defending the people of Springfield whose pets are being eaten up. Any black walking around Springfield looks Haitian. I mean it is racist. It is a clear threat to people and just like I denounce whoever's trying to assassinate Donald Trump for whatever reasons they should denounce the fact that they are inciting nuts to feel that they can go into Springfield and save pets. That's why those kinds of jaded thinking is what leads to killing us. There you go. There you go. He's right. And the woman that I played the resident before the last thing she says is I she said she's not of Haitian descent but she's black and people aren't walking around saying are you Haitian or you're black they were just looking at all of the black people there as if they're eating dogs and cats and ducks or geese. And they know it's not true. Al Sharpton is exactly 100 right. The reason the media didn't cover it is because it was not happening. So J.D. Vance is admitting that he created a story so that he could do what? Wag the dog. Get the media to focus on something that wasn't true in order to help Donald Trump and his campaign. That should be disqualifying to any candidate for even dog catcher. Now speaking of J.D. Vance right and J.D. Vance and Laura Loomer right Laura Loomer is a far right wing conspiracy theorist that if you just go online you'll see that she maybe you don't want to see all the stuff that she said about Kamala Harris and others. She has been traveling with the former president on his plane. She's the one that they believe came up at least helped to come up with this whole cats and dogs conspiracy theory. She also said that if Kamala Harris the vice president won remember Kamala Harris is of Indian descent that the White House would smell like curry. J.D. Vance his wife is also of Indian descent and the reason I'm telling you that is because he was asked about it on Meet the Press by Chris and Walker. He could not find a way to adequately denounce Laura Loomer or what she said about the White House and really disparaging Indian people. Take close attention to this said that Kamala Harris whose mother was Indian if she wins a November quote the White House will smell like curry. Senator you are married to an Indian American woman. What was your reaction to hearing those comments specifically? Well Chris and I want to go back to what you said about Haitian migrants to begin with because you didn't give me a chance to respond. Look we don't blame the Haitian migrants for coming to Springfield. We blame Kamala Harris for opening the American southern border and inviting 20,000 people to get dropped in a small Ohio town. Now you asked about Laura Loomer. Look Laura Loomer is not affiliated with the Trump campaign. She said something about curry in the White House that I first read about this morning actually because I knew that you would ask me about it. Look Chris and I make a mean chicken curry. I don't think that it's insulting for anybody to talk about their dietary preferences or what they want to do in the White House. I think what Laura said about Kamala Harris is not what we should be focused on. We should be focused on the policy and on the issues. And look so yeah do I agree with what Laura Loomer said about Kamala Harris? No I don't. I also don't think that this is actually an issue of national import. Is Laura Loomer running for president? No Kamala Harris is running for president and whether you're eating curry at your chicken at your dinner table or fried chicken things have gotten more expensive thanks to her policies. Let's talk about the person running for president of the United States. Not a social media personality. Please just pause the there. Shady Vans. Dietary preferences whether you're eating curry or fried chicken. That's a whole nother show. What is he talking about fried chicken? We know what that stereotype is right. Now I wasn't, I may have been born yesterday but I still went to high school. Really? You cannot say what Laura Loomer said was unacceptable. It was racist. It's despicable and we should not have that sort of racist language and statements in our politics. And Laura Loomer does not deserve to be anywhere near the former president nor any political campaign at any level. That's easy. And I am going to stand up for my wife and the woman who's running for to be president because they are of the same descent and I will tell you it's racist against my wife. It's racist against the vice president. It should not be said period. Next question. He can't, he can't say that. Remember Ted Cruz? His wife is unattractive or whatever and then Ted Cruz is at the phone bank. Remember all the stuff that he said about Nikki Haley? I'm on standby to go out and campaign for Donald Trump. He has not called her yet. Wow, wow, wow, wow. Okay, so a lot of this stuff when we talk about rhetoric, right? Everyone's talking about taking down the temperature, keeping the lies, by the way, man, JD Vance, wow. But, you know, trying to suss out what's alive, what's a conspiracy theory, what's the truth, you know, to keep the rhetoric down so that maybe there aren't attempts on people's lives. Right? Maybe people aren't incited to violence. For years now, Donald Trump has been spreading the lie that he won the 2020 election, that it was stolen from him, regardless of the 60 or so cases that were all knocked down in court he says there's no standing. The reason there's no standing is because it's bullshit. Remember the debate? Oh, can you imagine a president not having standing? Yes, if it is a lie, I can imagine. You're not above the law, Donald Trump. The January 20, the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol disrupted the counting of the electoral votes. It triggered the largest prosecution in US history. Trump has called the rioters hostages who've been treated unfairly and said he's inclined to pardon them. The top conservative judge in these proceedings in this country says that everything is proceeding as it should be. On 60 minutes, he said Donald Trump, all of these statements, everything that he's saying as it relates to January 6, as it relates to the election, is a lie and that Donald Trump is the one who's actually inciting the violence. Here he is. The January 6 protesters duped? Yes. Thomas Griffith is a conservative retired federal judge who co-authored Lost Not Stolen, a year-long investigation by conservatives into the 2020 election. The conclusion of the report was that there's no evidence that fraud changed the outcome of an election in any precinct in the United States of America. In any precinct and all of the evidence, not the speculation, not the conspiracy theories, all the evidence points in one direction, and that is that President Biden won and President Trump lost. Judge Griffith was appointed by George W. Bush to the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. He retired in 2020 after working four years with most of the 29 judges who have heard January 6 cases. None of these judges is politically biased. These defendants had every chance in the world to defend themselves against these charges, and they didn't succeed. You seem to be saying that justice was done. Absolutely justice was done. Now, you want to talk about taking the temperature down, you want to talk about lies, you want to talk about inciting violence. A top Republican judge appointed by George Bush says that Donald Trump is lying, that there is no truth that the election was stolen by any account and any precinct anywhere in the country. But yet he is co-opting people to believe that, as he is co-opting people to believe that people are eating cats and dogs. Why, MAGA, are you falling for this? Republican Party, why are you sticking by this guy? Country to my fellow citizens. Why are we allowing this to happen? Why are we putting Donald Trump on equal footing with sane people? It makes no sense media. Why are you doing it? It's all lies. Remember what he said about Hillary Clinton? That's how the whole lock her up, lock her up, lock her up. She should be in jail. Then he lied saying, I never said lock her up, I never said she should go to jail. He lied, the soundbite show, he said exactly that. Now, you know, Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts and there are some other things in there as well, including being found liable for sexually assaulting a woman, where the judge says it's really the equivalent of rape. But Hillary Clinton was on CBS, asked about, you know, you're human, how did you feel when Donald Trump was convicted on 34 counts? Her eyes welled up, she said, and this is the rest. And you heard that he had been convicted. There had to be, you're human. There had to be a side of you after enduring months of hearing lock her up. This is the person who's actually facing time in jail. Looks like karma to me. Looks like karma to me. Now, if there's karma for one thing, there's karma for other things. There's karma for one thing, there's karma for other things. There's karma for everything. There's karma for everything. We got to stop with the madness. She was appearing on Sunday morning to promote her new memoir, Something Lost, Something Gained scheduled to be released tomorrow, on Tuesday. Those remarks were aired before this attempt on his life, before the Secret Service agents fired at the person who appointed a rifle, a rifle's muzzle at the former president and his golf course. So don't say, "Oh, Hillary Clinton is cast, callous to make those remarks." Callous, callous, callous. Just as, by the way, I said it was callous for something that was posted online in regards to me, that people said that I did, that was posted without my knowledge of the former first lady. And when I saw it, I immediately took it down and I sent it to the folks saying, "Do not post that, take it down, it's callous." Because everyone should be careful about what they're saying, what they're saying and doing, and they're posting. So I understand that people may be upset thinking, "Oh my God, Don Lemon posted that, I did not." Immediately, when I saw it, take that down, it's not representative of me, it's not representative of what I said, and it was taken down. That doesn't happen though for everyone. They just keep ratcheting it up, keep ratcheting it up, keep ratcheting it up. So, this whole thing with Donald Trump and Taylor Swift continues, okay? Donald Trump, Donald Trump, you're not helping yourself. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know this sounds really shallow, but it's true. You cannot fight the beehive, Beyonce's fans, and you cannot really fight the Swiftie, Taylor Swift fans, okay? The Swifties. So basically, he said he's not a Swiftie, right? He's like, "I'm not really a Swiftie." So days after Taylor Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president, Donald Trump expressed his distaste for the mega pop star. She's not mega. She's a mega pop star in all caps, writing, "I hate Taylor Swift." He wrote in this post on his social media platform, "I hate Taylor Swift." However, last month, remember when she mentioned this, Trump shared an AI-generated image of Swift in an Uncle Sam outfit giving a fake endorsement to his campaign along with other images promoting the idea that he'd won over some of her fan base. "I accept," he said in the posting of images, "I accept," he said in the posting of the images. He has since denied knowing anything about the images, but this is what he said about her. This was on my friend, Aaron Burnett's show, three months ago. What do you think about Taylor Swift? One of the most famous people right now? Yeah, I think she's beautiful. Very beautiful. I find her very beautiful. I think she's liberal. She probably doesn't like Trump, but I hear she's very talented, but I think she's a very beautiful actually. Unusually beautiful. Okay, unusually beautiful. He said that same thing about similar thing about the vice president Kamala Harris, and she was beautiful like the former first lady, Melania Trump. By the way, Taylor Swift was responding. Part of the reason that she endorsed Kamala Harris was because of the AI-generated images, and the part of the reason that they were talking about this, Aaron Burnett, is because of those AI images. By the way, the thing that I mentioned, I told a takedown, the reason that those people posted is because they thought it was AI-generated. They thought it was fake because it was so blown out and whatever. They thought it was an AI-generated image. Anyway, I digress. I move on. We talk about do you guys know what code switching is? You know what code switching is, okay? Code switching is like when you hang out with your homies, or you hang out with your girlfriends, or you hang out with people from wherever you are, when you do all of this, right? When you hang out with them, you speak like in the way that you spoke in a familiar accent. Like when I go to Louisiana, I talk to my mom last night. But last night, I was on the phone with my mom for hours. I was like cooking a roast. Don't get me started. I like to do that, especially on Sunday. I love to cook. It's therapeutic. And so I'm talking to my mom. And I sound like I'm from Louisiana. Hey, y'all, what you doing? Mom, I got to put this thing in the oven. How long do I put it on? Should I put how many potatoes? And then we joke around. My mom would say, you know, you got to put them taters in there, right? Now, would you talk that way in a professional meeting? No. But do you talk that way with people you're familiar with? Absolutely. I'm sure my friends who are Italian do the same thing. I'm sure my friends who are Jewish do the same thing. They talk like, you know, in Yiddish. I do that with my Jewish friends. Oh, it's Masugana. Oh, boy, whatever. And just like it. It's a familiarity. It's a joking thing. Everybody code switches. Everybody I know. Everyone you know. When women are talking to their girlfriends, hey, they call each other bees. Oh, you look skinny bee. Wow. They actually say the word. What's up bee? Like some people do it. Some people don't like it, but women do that. Hey girl, how you doing? You're looking good. Women do that. Guys do it. What's up, bro? How you doing, dude? What's up, man? Like that is code switching. That's what code switching is. But somehow, to some of the racists, it's not okay if a black woman does it. So Kamala Harris, vice president, spoke at the CBC, the Congressional Black Caucus of Phoenix Awards dinner, right? So bringing a message to his members that were in the battle for the soul of the nation. That's what she was saying. Now it's being criticized online because they said, oh, she's talking in a black scent. Okay, whatever. But anyway, this is her talking about her divine nine, meaning her sorority sisters. Remember Donald Trump criticized her for being at a sorority party at the debate that did not go over well. And you can see for yourself. But this is her message at the CBC dinner. Hello to all my divine nine brothers and sisters. And my soror. And to all my HBCU brothers and sisters. Okay, so look, it seems like I do that with black people. I do that. I did that at the CBC the other day when I was there on Friday. That's how we do. That's all I can say. That's how we do. Stop being dumb and stupid and racist. That's how we do. Now, there was some substance to her speech as she was speaking at the Congressional Black Caucus Phoenix Awards dinner, where she talked about what she plans to do for the country briefly. Here it is. We actually have a plan for health care. Not just concepts of a plan. Remember the thing, Donald Trump says, I have a plan when he talked about the concept of a plan. There are some, let's see, which one of these I want to play. And maybe I'll play all of them, just so you this is sort of a bucket, right, what we call it. We'll call this a lightning round of things that I wanted to discuss. And I'm going to end I'll end on something funny. A couple of things that are funny. We have talked about Laura Loomer, right, and what a sort of loud mouth right wing conspiracy theorist Wacko for some reason she has the president's ear. And they can't seem to figure out how to shut her down. Well, there is a congressman who figured it out. And this is a while ago when she started mouthing off and and losing her composure, losing her mind in Congress at a Congressional hearing. This is a while ago, watch Billy Lee's take a seat or we'll have to have you. Then you'll need to relieve help us. Please help us, Mr. President, before it is too late because Jack Dorsey is trying to influence the election. What she said, I can't understand it, but she'll be election. That is what she's answering and shadow me. I'm at a 10, 12 and a half 15, $20 and a half, $7 and a half 30, $30 down here to half by 30, $7 and a 40, $40 and a half by $5, 45, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 75, 80, $5, 85, 90, $800 and a day and a day and a quarter, one and a half is in about two, two and a quarter, yeah, two and a half is in about three, able to bond 300, at three and a quarter, oh my gosh, that was classic, that was classic, that was classic. So I really like, that's Billy Long of Missouri, excuse me, that was Billy Long of Missouri, that's how you do it. When people start talking bullshit and nonsense, then you give them bullshit and nonsense right back and he did. So thank you Billy Long, that was a while ago, seems like Jack Dorsey, obviously this was back before, as I said it was a while ago, this is before Elon Musk bought Twitter, this is when Jack Dorsey was in charge of Twitter, I believe that's where that came from. Okay, so we've been talking about what happens with gun legislation, and that Republicans really have been stopping, they have been the roadblock as it comes to gun legislation. For decades, people have been trying our Congress, our senators, lawmakers and people in this country have been wanting to get some sensible gun legislation, they're up against the National Association, Rifle Association, and they're up against, quite frankly, Republican members of Congress, right? So we talked about that. It is the same thing that they've been politicizing the gun issue, same thing with the immigration issue. Now remember, Jim Langford, a very conservative Republican, came up with Senator Jim Langford, came up with this bipartisan legislation to help the border, to help immigration in this country, to get more border agents, to really, really make a dent when it comes to immigration reform and helping the situation as it relates to immigrants in this country, right? But then his own party and Donald Trump killed it. I know you hear that all the time, people don't believe it. Senator James Langford, a very conservative Republican, speaking about that recently. Here it is. Trying to zing your colleagues, but it's your colleagues in your party, Sir, who torpedoed this, who didn't get the facts right on what you just outlined was in that measure. They killed it, ironically, not Democrats. Right. It was, and it was painful to be able to watch it, got stirred up in all the presidential politics, and several of my colleagues started looking for ways after President Trump said don't fix anything during the presidential election. It's a single biggest issue during the election. Don't resolve this. We'll resolve it next year. Quite a few of my colleagues backed up, looked for a reason to be able to shoot against it, and then walked away. I get that. That's a, that's a decision everybody makes in it. My issue is we can, if we're pursuing everything, we very often end up with nothing. If we're pursuing someone coming later to fix it, later seems to never come. When we have a moment to fix things, we should fix as many things as we can then then come back later and fix the rest. There we go. Okay. So that was obviously a while ago, because you saw that was, they were watching protests at Columbia University. I wanted to play that because I want you to see how people are playing politics. Right. Let's see if they're going to play politics with this gun issue in light of the threats against both the presidential candidates. In the polls, it's tight. But Jamie Harrison, who's the chair of the D and C Democratic National Committee, remember I told you guys about North Carolina on the show last week, that is in play. Jamie Harrison is more comfortable and confident that North Carolina is going to go to Kamala Harris. Now again, the governor of North Carolina just last week said if Donald Trump loses North Carolina, he loses the election. This is Jamie Harrison launch. We have 40,000 new volunteers signing up in Florida. When you have 40,000 new volunteers signing up in Pennsylvania, when you got tens of thousands of volunteers in North Carolina, and I want to be on the record right here, we are going to win North Carolina. I don't know if y'all saw those forms. I have spent probably in the last six months four trips to Eastern North Carolina, not to Charlotte, not to Raleigh, not to Durham, but to with poor black folks in rural counties and talking to those folks, we are going to win North Carolina this election cycle. And it's partly because the energies on the ground, people want to do, as Michelle Obama said, they want to do something. They are ready and they're fired up. They're tired. The VP said it. They are tired of all of this anguish and this vitriol and this division that they're getting from Donald Trump, and they're ready for a little bit of hope. Okay, so Jamie Harrison saying that they're going to win North Carolina, that is indeed so that is huge, huge trouble for the Trump folks. That's huge. Let's see if that sticks. Okay, so this is the last thing that I want to play and it's funny. You guys know what a pimp walk is, right? So, where we Goldberg, over on the view, we're talking about what's talking about how the vice president walked over into Donald Trump's base at the beginning of the debate and shook his hand, set her name, pronounced her name correctly, and then walked back, shook his hand and said, you know, I, Kamala Harris, I said, you know, Kamala Harris, damn glad to meet you. That's what I used to say. Don't let them, damn glad to meet you. It was a joke that we used to say, right? But she did it and we'll be Goldberg, I think, nailed it. Watch this. Doesn't seem to want to commit to another round. Vice President Harris has said, listen, I'm up for another debate. But, you know, does she need to do another debate? I mean, they all four weeks called her dumb and stupid and she didn't have a brain in her head. That's not the right clip. Anyway, so it's another clip. That's not the right clip. I must have seen the wrong clip to the producers. But anyway, whoopi Goldberg stood up and said she pimp walked over to Donald Trump and, you know, that's what happened. So that's the wrong clip. Sorry to end on that, but I didn't want to play the wrong clip and get it out of context because I'm not sure that one is funny. I wanted to end on something funny. But anyway, I want you all to be safe. I want you all to have a great day. Thank you for watching the Hot Topics. We're going to be back today at five o'clock where we're going to have more political news. I'm sorry that it wasn't more that we sort of didn't get stories that are more pop culture, more in the zeitgeist, other than this heavy, heavy politics, as I said at the beginning, because it's so tough. But hey, look, that's what it is. We had another assassination attempt by a former president's life. So I want to thank everybody. Let me just tell you about what happened. I don't know if you guys have been paying attention. So Thursday, I did the Congressional Black Caucus Breakfast, and then I did a book signing with my former colleague. I should have got the pictures up on there on my social media with my formal on my Instagram. My former colleague, Laura Ko, to moderate the conversation. So thank you, Laura. It was fantastic. That was on Thursday evening of politics and prose bookstore in Washington, D.C. And then on Friday night, my gosh, a turnout was amazing. Hundreds of people at the Wilmington Delaware Public Library. There were hundreds of people there that were buying books. We had a fantastic talk. It lasted for like an hour and a half, two hours. I think it was like two, it ended up being like two and a half hours with the signing and the pictures and the conversation and all of that. My friend Patty Jackson was there from WDAS Radio in Philadelphia and sold a bunch of books. So it was fantastic. Thank you. They took me out to dinner in downtown Wilmington. I really appreciated this great restaurant that's down there. So thank you. Thank the folks for that. And then I got back and I got an afternoon of sleep on Saturday. And then Sunday, I went to the, what's the name of the bookstore? Common. I forget what it is. I'll tell you two seconds, which was a great turnout as well. Books signing at the Books and Greetings bookstore in Northvale, New Jersey yesterday. Books and Greetings bookstore. Thank you to all the folks at Books and Greetings bookstore and all the people who came out. I really appreciate including one of the personalities here from the local NBC station, Natalie. And then thank you. So make sure you get the book. It is online. You could order at Barnes and Nobles. You can go to your local bookstore. It's called I Once Was Lost, my search for God America. Later in the week, I'll be on with Joy Reid on MSNBC and then I'll be on with Dan Abrams on News Nation. And then there are other appearances I will let you know about several other book signings. But tonight, if you are tuning in to CNN at 7 p.m., watch me on my own network, which is going to be interesting, right? I'm sure people will be writing about that. I'll be on with Aaron Burnett. That's on Monday night tonight. What is today? The 16th. Yes, the 16th. So you can watch me there. Anyway, it's called I Once Was Lost, my search for God America. Make sure you pick it up.
