Wherever you are joining us from, it is the talkin' cop, we're here for a full-time match reaction. I'm your host, Matt. And join just by Ashley today to talk through Liverpool 3 Bournemouth Mill, a nice winning return in the Premier League. How was that for you to get started on a Saturday, Ashley? I love a good game early on a Saturday morning, where you can just have a hot cup of coffee or tea, put your feet up, have that score line at halftime is ideal, and then you just get to enjoy the rest of your weekend. That's where I'm at right now. I got my tea, and I'm ready to chat about it, but I'm thrilled with how that went. How about you? Yeah, it's not a 5.30 start, which is the early starts for me here in the middle of the American continent, so I got to sleep in a little bit, catch the end of the Chelsea match this morning, and then, yes, settle in for a nice 8 o'clock in the morning kickoff, pot of coffee made, and it's so much better when you're playing well, so yeah, thanks everybody for joining us. If you kind of know the routine by now, just go ahead and hit that like button for us, because it helps the channel out. If you're new to the show joining us, thank you for joining, get involved in the chat. The chat is really what makes the channel special, and I think makes us different from everybody else that's out there doing it, but we're going to go ahead and just get right into it. I mean, the lineups that come out, Ashley, the news kind of broke yesterday or the day before that it looked like Alison had picked up a bit of a hamstring injury, which, hey, it's the only knock you could possibly have on them. I like people pointing out that his beard makes him like Samson. He shaves the beard off and immediately. I'm sure he had the hamstring injury well-shaving his beard. That would be the icing on top. Yeah, slipping in the shower or something like that. But we end up having four changes from the last lineup against AC Milan, which is starting to feel a little bit more like the slots rotating the team a little bit. Robertson comes back in for Semicas, same midfield three go again, but two changes up top. Louis Diaz comes back in for Cody Gackbo and Darwin Nunes gets his first start under Arna Slott. Any surprises for you out of that lineup? I think the biggest surprise was to see the rotation, to see four players rotated. It's been the stick that we've all been beating Arnie Slott with for a little while, and he's obviously, I don't know if he's heard the media. I don't actually think that's what's happening. I think he had plans to rotate the entire time, and we're just seeing it come to fruition after needing to be patient with him. I think that there was some chat when Darwin came through, lots of people saying some pressure on him, but I think he played really well. Overall, I'm okay with the changes. I was happy with that lineup when it came out. What about you? The only thing for me is, this is the sixth game of the season, and we've had the same midfield three start every single game. It's getting to a point where at a certain stage, somebody's going to have to come in and take one of those starting positions off of Sobelslei Grabenberch and McAllister, but with the way that they're playing, they're not going to lose their spot out of form. It's simply just going to be through rotation. It's jumping ahead a little bit, but I was quite pleased with Curtis Jones' little cameo that he had. Yeah, I think he started good and then kind of faded. I think he's going to be the one, I mean, obviously we don't have that many to choose from, but he'll be the one that'll be drip fed in, and I think he'll get his chances. I think it was interesting to see him play in that higher role coming in for Sobelslei because I didn't know exactly who he was going to come in for, but yeah, I think with Elliot out, we are sort of limited for options. I thought it was weird that Endo wasn't on the bench. I thought it was weird that Morton was playing with the Under-21s. We had a lot of defenders on the bench in terms of like, we didn't really need that much cover, so there were a few things that were odd, but we're not picking at this point. Yeah, yeah, it was a strangely lopsided bench in terms of just the midfield being extremely, extremely thin, but hey, you walk away with a three-nail victory, you can't really have too many complaints about it after the fact. The first talking point I have is 20 seconds into the match, and Ryan Christie gets a yellow card with a very high boot on Lewis Diaz. Yeah. I don't think it was red card worthy, but boy, it's sure getting on that borderline, but born with picking up right where they left off against Chelsea last week and tawding up a pile of yellow cards. Yeah, I was kind of annoyed with my commentary because they were saying that Diaz played that up, and I'm like, he got studs into the chest. I don't think there's a way you can play it up. So that was a little bit annoying, but yeah, that was a dangerous play right off of that. And sometimes when the first whistle goes like, you're excited and you're eager and you make dumb mistakes like that, but it was definitely, it was borderline for me. Yeah, and then it starts off the game really just doesn't go, it can't be to plan. I mean, a minute and a minute and a half in Evan Elson, Beatz Ibu Canate, and Tavernier wins the corner off Trent Alexander Arnold. So it's a minute and a half. We're facing the first corner of the match. And then two minutes later, the ball is in the back of the net and it's like, oh, like, yeah, it was like a face palm moment. We were like, please, no, not again, but he was, he was offside. It seemed like he might have been offside, like watching it live of, I mean, maybe that's just grasping at straws. I was like, he has to be offside. He has to be offside. There's no way we could concede after three and a half minutes again, but they show the first replay and you can see that he's, he's pretty well offside. Like they said that VAR was drawing the lines and I'm not sure why they needed to get a long time. Yeah. But yeah, he was, he was clearly offside. I mean, he's a, he's a lively player. I think Kev brought him up the other night when we were talking about like players to watch for, for myth and he was lively. But yeah, it, we got, we got to reprieve. And it was kind of like, how are they going to react to this? Because again, it was very similar to the Milan game where like we, it's like we weren't quite clicked on for the first five minutes, which again, is a little bit reminiscent of last season where we would, we would do these early goals again. And I, I don't want to see this become a habit, um, but I was really impressed with the way that we reacted to this because it, it could have gone either way. And we, we got control pretty, pretty darn quickly. Like if you missed the first 10 minutes of the match, you wouldn't have known it had gone back because they really did get a handle on it, like right around 10 minutes. Yeah. And Karen B says Diaz is flying and he was kind of central to the game turning around in four minutes early spell in the first, you know, seven, eight, ten minutes. And all of a sudden the game is entirely Liverpool's there. And it comes the, the first thing I have positive for us, seven and a half minutes cannot take place. A great ball out to Robertson, which is foreshadowing something that's going to happen a lot during the game is I thought people cannot face passing today was outstanding. But Robertson gets the ball that Diaz, he cuts in, he blasts a shot straight, it kept it, he tips it over, we get our first corner. And then Diaz links up with Mo, saw the slice shoots over. And then on the 12th minute, I mean, I wish Mo Sala would have scored this because the ball from Alexis McAllister that he plays into Mo Sala on the 12th minute was outstanding, an outstanding bit of passing. But you could just see that we were, we had settled into the game, we got over those early jitters and the passing in the build up, the style of play that Arnes Lott wants from us was starting to come to fruition and it started to feel like it's only a matter of time. Yeah, I think there's a few times during the game where it was like a McAllister to Sala almost perfect goal, like I felt like I was watching Groundhog Day a little bit, but they really had a connection going today. And Sala couldn't just couldn't get that final ball into the net, which was, which was sad because he's in my fantasy league and was my captain, but other than that, you know, it was a great start. I mean, we really, like I said, after the first 10 minutes, I feel like we just got a chokehold over it and we, we established the control that we were missing. Yeah, it's, and again, it's, it's Lewis Diaz, Lewis Diaz, Lewis Diaz all throughout my notes. I mean, the 21st minute he gets the ball on the left hand side and he beats I think three or four players, he tries to get a shot off at the near post and he really, really should be squaring that ball into the middle of both Mosal and Darwin Nunez were a little fuming with them after that. I, I, Iola gets a yellow card, which is hilarious because we're five matches into the Premier League season and he's got a touchline band that he has to serve now. And so Hampton, right? Yeah. Yeah, he's, he is a naughty, naughty, naughty boy there. His passion, I guess, is what we would say. I guess so. Yes. Uh, but I mean, the 26 minute, it, it's one nothing. And like I said, Ibu Kanate with an incredible long ping and he had a fair number of them throughout the game. I don't know if it's better from Kanate, better from Diaz or worse from Kepa or at the saga for that goal because what was he doing? I was worried he was going to have one of those games where he was like unstoppable up until that point because he had quite a few really good saves. And then he did that. And I was like, oh, yeah, I forgot. I remember Kepa as Kepa for a reason that he had no, no reason coming out for that ball. He didn't need to. He had cover. Um, you know, and he just, he was, he looked like an absolute doesn't come well enough or quick enough or strong enough and Lewis Diaz gets chested in front of him, rounds him. And then all he has to do is just not make an error and it's a, it's a wide open net for him. I mean, there was a defender on the line, but if you can't miss a defender and put it into the, into the box from there, absolutely, absolutely fantastic play. And then my stream went a little bit wonky where I lost all video and had the audio. And next thing I know, he just says it's too nothing Liverpool and Diaz is scoring. It was like a blink and you miss it and the, they definitely blinked on my camera feed as well. Um, I, I saw it on the replay and I can hear it happening. Um, but it was one of those like seriously, like right now, this is when it cuts out. Yeah. Yeah. And like watching it on the replay again, it starts at the ball with Ibu Kanate at the back and I'm starting to wonder if like I had shades, cause you saw it when we played against AC Milan, where we were happy to have Pavlovitch half the ball coming out from the back because we obviously had more fear of tomorrow passing the ball out from the back against Milan. So it was like, we're going to mark tomorrow out of the game. We're going to let Pavlovitch have the ball. It seems like Bournemouth was trying to do the same sort of thing, but with marking Van Dyke out of the game and letting Ibu Kanate have the ball. And normally you would say that's pretty good because on the ball is not really Ibu's strong suit. A cheese. Until today. Until today because yeah, I mean, he fires the ball into Mo Sala who drops it off to Trent who just picks the ball up and I think it was in our app and just drives 40 yards and we've got numbers and it's such a nice change from last season. Like first off, we're not conceding early and we're getting odd man breaks where we've got the numbers and we're actually converting on it because Trent does everything right. He keeps his head up. He waits for the runner. Diaz keeps himself on side, slots the ball in underneath of Kepa and you're the stats guruing here, but I believe that ties Trent with Robertson for Premier League assists. I believe so. Yeah, which is which is fantastic. I mean, I love I loved that season. I forget which one it was. It was maybe like four years ago where they were just going neck and neck with one another and it was like their own little personal competition where they were one up in each other every game. And I hope that they can reestablish that because that kind of camaraderie and playful like competitiveness, I think really keeps the team morale up. And I would love to see that happen again this year. Yeah, yeah, it's if if that little bit of full back to full back competition just drives them on to be putting up the numbers that they were putting up four or five years ago in terms of assists. I don't think there's anybody that's going to be against that, but I just absolutely love the fact that we got that quick fire bang bang double that, you know, you get that first goal. They're reeling a tiny little bit and just go out immediately and just sucker punch them and get a second one. I don't think we've really done it not certainly not this quickly this season, but it was really nice to see because it's something of the old like the prime clock teams you would see is you'd get that one goal and then there'd be that tight momentum that would ship and all of a sudden it would just be like bang bang bang and then the game's pretty much done and over. Yeah, you get that little run and ended it was like a little blip of heavy metal football, which was nice. Nice to see that come back. I mean, there was lots of control, but to kind of see that they can still turn it on like that and it literally I think it was like two minutes exactly between the two goals and I don't think form with knew what to do like because they weren't playing particularly badly. You know, I think that we had control of the game, but I don't think they warranted being two nil down at that point, much less being three nil down, like we'll get to that. I don't think they warranted that. I thought they played quite well, but you know, that's football for you. Yeah, I mean, that's the breaks. Yeah, I was actually quite impressed with the solidity of their press from the front like in the in the early part of the game because it was it was the 19th minute killer had to make a save against the menu after he dawdled on the ball a little bit too long, but that's because his his easy passing options were taken away and they were doing like a really good job of pressing from the front and as the game went on and especially after we made a three nil in, I think it's an 11 minute span. We score the three goals and after we had that three nil lead, their press from the front was not even a semblance of what it was in the first, you know, I think they were directed to stop we kept going after like, I mean, with the the quick counters and stuff, I feel like they just didn't have the men back when they were doing those those high presses. And so I think they were instructed to do that at halftime because it was it was not consistent after that. Their goal. Yeah, I mean, it's probably a safe choice when you have to be concerned about pretty much every player in our back five, you know, including the goalkeeper, just putting pinpoint passes, you know, and completely cutting the midfield out because you know that both the fullbacks have that ability, you know that Virgil has that ability. Keller has passing today with the exception of that one that led to the save, he had to make against the menu. Again, he just shows the quality that he has with the ball at his feet. And then, yeah, it's like, I was so happy to see that this passing quality from Ibukanate and a couple of times where he just went, I'm going to go for a little bit of a mat tip and take the ball and control in the midfield with it. And if he adds that, you know, our arrow to his quiver to get my metaphor correct there, it just makes him that much more dangerous of a center half. And you know, he's playing six games on the trot now. But let's get to the third goal because I mean, the the player in the lineup that probably everybody was focusing on coming into it was Darwin Nunes, you know, a couple of sub cameos where he's kind of flitted around the edges, you know, he obviously got our first offside of the season, which was absolutely hilarious that it had to be him coming off the bench. I think it was even in the second game. So I don't think we were offside against Ipswich. I think it was in the Brentford game that we got our first offside of the season with Darwin. I'm sure he has a bonus for that somewhere. That's the strangest contract structure ever, if that's a payoutable bonus. But it's again, another long ball from Ibu Kanate and then a lovely little bit of link up play between Darwin and Mo. Yeah. And Darwin did so much work to make that goal for himself. I don't did it come off of his back. I don't know like the first pass from Darwin to Salah. It looked like it came from a very extreme weird angle on his body. So I'm not really sure. But that's Finnish like, like it's one of those things, it's again, it's a Darwin moment where it's like, you make everything that's simple, look impossible. And then you make the impossible, look like you roll out of bed and do it no big deal. Because that Finnish, like he just like stroked it into that far post, like I think it kissed off the post and it was just such a good goal. And the reaction from him, like you could see what it meant. Like he was he was practically in tears. And like you can tell he's not, he's not like out of the team. He's not like, he hasn't disconnected. He wants to be here and he wants to succeed and he wants to score goals. And I think it's just a matter of him settling in with this new system, like having learned an entirely new system under Klopp, having to kind of do that a second time. I think that if we can actually make him come good, like that's that's going to be amazing to add that on top of the attack that we already have. So I was super pleased for him. Yeah, I'm even even as biggest detractors. I know one of the lads that went over the final game of the season last year is the biggest Darwin Hader in the entire world. So there was a fair number of messages directed directly at him when he put that ball into the back of the net. Like I told you so. But everybody wants to see him come good. You can be on different parts of the spectrum in terms of how much you believe that he will come good because I said before the start of the season, like I think it's an extremely important season for him that if he doesn't kick on this year, especially with the place he is in his contract, it's at that point where you'd either be looking at a contract renewal or you're going to be moved on down the road if you're not going to work out in the team. So it's extremely important for him to have a good season and not getting a start until the sixth game, you know, not making a huge impact off of the bench, like boy, this is big for Darwin. And I mean, yeah, like the finish is just absolutely gorgeous. I don't know if it's as good as the one where he cut in off of the left against him in the cup last year, that was with his right foot, not his left foot. But I mean, just it's absolutely, absolutely gorgeous. And like you said, you'd love to see that emotion from a player like that. You can tell that he wants to succeed with Liverpool because I mean, if it doesn't work out for him, it's hard to see him going to a bigger club than Liverpool. I mean, as Liverpool fans, it's probably hard to imagine a bigger club full stop. And then from there through the rest of the half, he really didn't have anything going for it, just more strong, strong play from the biggest and best surprise of the entire season. And that's Ryan Grahamberg. Yeah, there were a few like charging runs that he made where he was so press resistant. Like I think he like fended off like three or four guys at one point in time and was doing these little swivels on the ball. And it's like, they couldn't get the ball off him. They really couldn't. And he was just out muscling them and it's, you can see his strengths, just like shining in this position. And you can see that like he is being facilitated by McAllister and by Savaz like, but like, the way that slot has this system set up, it really makes him shine. Because he's, he has stood out like every single game that we've watched this year. I can't remember him having a particularly bad game. Even the bad game against Forrest, he was still one of the better players. Yeah, it's, it's, it's surprising that I don't think anybody, you know, coming into the season of like, Ryan Grahamberg is going to play the number six for Liverpool going forward and six games into the season, you'd be able to say that he's been a man of the match. And he's been our man of the match in pretty much every game. You know, I think I gave it to Gackpo in the last game, but he could have given it to Grahamberg. I gave it to Ibu against Brentford, maybe, but you could have given it to Grahamberg. Like it's, it's really, it's, it's so, it's so, so heartening to see, especially when you try to get Martin Zubamendi in, but you can't overcome the allure of mountains and paella, you know, world-class restaurants in San Sebastian. But it's, it's the use of his body in the middle of the park. And like that, I don't know if maybe it's just. But it's so Tiago that letting the ball run across you and just dip the shoulder and it just sells the guy that's marking him just right down the river. But his picking the ball up and driving forward with it is it's such a game changer. It's something that especially in the past, you know, when we had that Brexit midfield, you know, you know, when Aldem and Milner and Henderson in there, even with Babenio, it wasn't something that we really utilized under those great club teams of having the ball come to somebody in the middle of the park halfway inside of our own half and they just go, fuck it, I'm running 30 yards straight forward. And let's just completely tilt this field like it seemed like we used to do it more with, you know, long switches going from full back to full back or just paying the ball up from Virgil the mode, which we still do, but this is a new, a new wrinkle in the system that really, I mean, Brian O'Hara in here says reminds him of Vieira, I mean, as long as it's a player and not the coach, you'll, you'll absolutely, absolutely take that all day, every day, it's, yeah, I, I just couldn't, couldn't, couldn't be happier for him, couldn't be happier for him. Final act of the half, another yellow card for Bournemouth, that's they are really, really going after all the yellow cards, but I mean, we get to halftime and it was, it was all positives for me. I mean, they had a couple of, they had a couple of chances, but I didn't think there was anything really dangerous that they posed to us in the first half. No, I mean, there were definitely like a, like a flurry of half chances. Um, I think anything that they did have, like either Kelleher was happy to let it go wide or he had it under control where the ball was really just coming straight to him, like he wasn't particularly worked in the first half, although there were some good saves in the second half. Um, but I think we kind of just had them at arms length up until, like, up until that point. And obviously they were going to come at us and try to get one back, but I think it was very much within our control. Um, I mean, I don't know about you, but that, that was kind of my perception of it. Yeah, it's, it's weathering that early storm and not having to come from a goal behind and not letting them dictate how the game was going to play out. And they, they never really were like they weren't going to come in and, and put in the low block system like forest was going to. And again, like you watch this match and born myth and forest are probably at about the same level, you know, come the end of the season, you wouldn't be surprised if they're in a place or two of each other in the final Premier League table, but you look at the plan that forest came with and how they executed it versus what born myth came with today. And it chalk and cheese in terms of getting a result from it, but a change at halftime, they bring on Django and chained to Tara for Patrick Clybert wasn't really involved in the game. Really the only player in the first half are born, but that I thought was good. And you mentioned it and you guys talked about it in the preview show was a semennial. That he's, he's a dangerous little player. Yeah. Yeah, he's got pace and he knows how to beat a player like in and around the box. There were a few times where he did have the beating of some of our defenders. Um, it's just, it was about finished product. Like he, he didn't have the finished product today. And I think format as a whole didn't have that finished product. Um, but yeah, he looked dangerous and then I think, I think their subs helped. I think it added a little bit of a front foot, um, action to what they were doing. But I also think that we chose to sit back and we were like, we're good with the score line. Yeah. I mean, we've shown that we're, we're okay with the two nil lead and just keeping the ball at the back and not taking any crazy risks and not, you know, putting ourselves at risk of being hit on the counter attack by trying to be too expansive and push for that fourth goal, which you're up by three. You don't really need that fourth goal and you shouldn't be, even at two goals, you shouldn't be losing to board myth. You know, if you have a two goal lead, did there? Yeah. Nope. See what I did. Yeah. I mean, we get into the second half. And like you said, like they make the change. I thought that I thought who Tara was becoming the danger man for them. He was going up against Trent, but again, it's another game this season where I think Trent Alexander Arnold's 1v1 defending has gotten better or maybe just the narrative is slipping a little bit that it's not Trent can't defend, Trent can't defend that he's taking on a Tara 1v1. He's not getting absolutely skinned alive and I don't want to be one of those body language experts or anything like that, but he's not loping around the field like he was last season. Like he seems more switched on, he seems more active in his defending and that's helping us keep, you know, clean sheets. Yeah. Yeah. He definitely seems more engaged. I think I also think as a structure, the team is like not leaving him out to dry as much as the clop structure did. I feel like a lot of times it was just him out on the wing like one on one defending with absolutely no one to cover him. I mean, maybe there was even like every once in a while if he was playing. But with this, I feel like because the whole team is tracking back and it was something that you saw again today, like I think Darwin was particularly good tracking back. But because you've got all these players in red coming back to help the press and to help kind of stop all the attacks, I think that it helps Trent. I think it helps him like he has players there that he can kind of get out of jail with like a quick pass or something like that. So I think it's not only him improving and I definitely think he is, but I think it's the team structure around him that's also helping him. Yeah. Everything. I mean, I'm kind of like I'm like in the Arna Slant revolution. I mean, it's more of an evolution, not really a revolution, but it's all well and good. I mean, 61 minutes, we get Curtis Jones coming back. I think it's his first minute since his injury in for Subbas life who had another good game in terms of being up top there. I know our Irish listeners that had the joy of listening to Kenny Cunningham were talking about how the pundit in chief was saying that that that role just doesn't fit Dominic Subbas life. Did he watch the game? I don't know what he's watching. Yeah. Because I mean, with the energy that Subbas life has, his running power, his pressing from the front is linking up, just his attacking instinct, everything about that, that number 10 role seems tailor made for Dominic Subbas life. But it also feels like it's probably the role that Curtis Jones wants as well. Yeah, I think, I think Curtis has the creativity to do it. I think it's whether or not he has the engine to do it because Subbas life has been up there in the stats. Like he's been the number one runner most of these games. And I don't know where Jones's fitness is, particularly on the list of LFC players. Like I don't know where he falls, but like Subbas life is continuously running a socks off. So if Jones can do that, I think creatively, he absolutely has it in his wheelhouse to do that, to do that role. And it was interesting to see that that's where he came on because I think there's been conversations about him coming on maybe in the deeper role, you know, so it's, it's interesting. I don't know. We don't have that many options in midfield. So he might have to be that jack-of-all trades player that can come in from multiple positions. Yeah. And I mean, if, if Ryan Gramberg can learn how to play this number six role in a pretty short amount of time, you'd like to think that Trent, or not Trent, I mean, Trent could do it too. But you'd like to think that Curtis Jones could play in that double pivot as well. And then if you've got that, that kind of take some of the pressure off not having that dedicated, you know, born and bred number six that's in there. After Jones comes on, I mean, it just felt like with the exception of born with getting an avalanche of corners, I think they ended up having nine corners in the match, which they never really threatened from any of them except for one, which we will get to. Not a lot happened. And again, that's just the control that we're having in the games. Again, I said it after the Milan game, I'm starting to get used to it now of not feeling like, you know, do something, do something of just, we'll keep the ball, we'll pass it around. We're not going to give up any stupid opportunities. Again, Gramberg was in all over the place, 67 minutes. I mean, Alexis McAllister puts in one of the most beautiful slide tackles you will ever see. The ball ends up coming to Darwinunas and he should just absolutely smash it like he's prone to do in other situations, but he tries to lay the ball off the Mo Mo shots a little bit too weak. And I think that brings us on nicely to have a little talk about Mo Sala. I mean, he gets the assist for Darwin's lovely goal there to make it three nil, but not a great game for Mo, was it? No, he's had, he's kind of had an a bit of an off like two weeks, like I think he's working really hard. And I think that where we think Mo needs to be every single week is like stratospheric anyways. So when he has a bad game, like he's just playing, he's playing at the level of everyone else. But that kind of stands out because he's normally so incredible, but he's working hard. I just think like his shooting, like his shooting radar or whatever you want to call it is just slightly off, like a lot of soft shots, he seems to be going for that near post a lot trying to squeeze it by the keeper and the keeper seemed to be reading that quite easily. So it'll come back, it always does, but he does go through dips in form. And I think that's, he's just, he's not quite at the amazing Mo Sala level, but it's not like he's playing poorly per se, because he is, he's doing a lot of off the ball work. And I think that that's something that I noticed particularly in this game was how much the forward players are doing to facilitate one another, like whether it was on, I think in like the first Diaz goal, Mo and Darwin were like working their socks off to kind of pull some of the players out of the way. And it seems like they, they really have a lot of tactical kind of behind the scenes work that's maybe not getting the spotlight from a fans perspective. But I do think that they're, they're doing more than it might appear. Yeah, that's, that's a very good point actually on the first goal, because it was, you could see the effect that Darwin Nunes had on the board with the fence that Zabarnier and Hoisin were fixated on what Darwin was doing. And as Darwin dropped back into midfield a little bit, it opened up the space behind the two center halves where Diaz to make that angled run and then Kanate pings the ball over the top. And you, you don't get that space, you know, if the center halves aren't drawn to Darwin Nunes, because you've got to be so aware of the pace that he has getting in behind. And they're fixated on him and then it creates that gap in between the top of their box where Kepa can't handle it. And where Zabarnier and Hoisin were having stepped up that Diaz comes and dips in there. So that's a good point. Just on Mo Sala. I love that we've got a little bit of disagreement here amongst some of the comments. Anthony Boylan says, stunk the gap out did mode. If Darwin had the performance Mo had today, there's hell on sick of him, not good enough, get rid, et cetera, et cetera. North will rise again, says if he's not scoring, he is getting assists. And then Kepa Sullivan comes in with Mo, had the fewest touches of any outfield player, but created the most chances today. And I mean, so there's kind of, there's kind of the turnaround that you get is that, yeah, he wasn't, he wasn't really getting into the game and affecting it all that much. But at the same time, the few opportunities he did have were leading to chances for us. And I mean, again, you get the assist. He keeps ticking over the stats on their, uh, North will rise against his crew as the Bournemouth left back had a really good game, 20 years old, we should be looking at him. I know he was one that when we were doing our transfer games in the off season, he was a name that came up fairly often, fairly often. But yeah, he did do well, not a lot of help for him. I mean, you have to be so switched on if you're the left back playing against Mo Salah. And having watched Kirk has last season, you know that he likes to get forward. And he did try to make a few overlapping runs today, but whether it was, uh, whether it was Zutara or who was out there in the first half, maybe Clover in the first half just couldn't quite seem to get the ball to him when he was overlapping. But he is a, he is a good player and probably won't be a Bournemouth for too, too much longer. We get start ringing in the changes and big time they make a triple change on 70 minutes. And then there's, there's a little moment we had just after they made their change before we brought on our two forwards that it went Jones to McAllister to Jones to McAllister and then into Mo and Mo absolutely dangles around a few players. Squares the ball into Dara Nunez and it looks like it's cleared off of the line. The rep gives it as a handball. It didn't look like it hit his hand ball. I don't think it was a handball. Yeah, which is it was too bad because it was a really nice little bit of build up in there. Again, another just sumptuous pass from Alexis McAllister, who's really after, I thought he started the season quite slowly. I thought he was actually barely underwhelming against Ipswich in the first match that he's, you can just see he's starting to hit that, hit those gears again. And if he hits the heights that he's putting in for Argentina, like at the Copa America this summer, he was just absolutely outstanding for Argentina. But at 71st minute, we take the goal scores off, Gacko comes on for Louis Diaz and Federico Kiesa comes on for his Premier League debut for Dara Nunez. Surprisingly, Kiesa goes and plays through the middle though. Yeah, I think he can play all across the front three. I do think it was interesting that he didn't come on for Salah. I don't know if Slat was trying to keep Salah on to try to get him his goal. That's kind of how I read it. But I think we're probably going to see him step in for more than just one person across the front line. And I think it might be a matter of Slat trying to see where he fits best and we might kind of see a little bit of a musical chairs moment in the front until we figure that out. But what an amazing asset to have off of the bench. I know he's just settling in. But if that volley that he had, I think it was around 72 minutes had come off, that would have been the most amazing introduction to the Anfield crowd. It was so audacious and it wasn't that far off. Yeah, it was a little bit too central for Kepa who, I mean, we know he has a tendency to just kind of start off to one side and trying to save something. But yeah, that would have been just a pure moment of magic for him. I was kind of happy to see. I didn't think he was going to play through the middle because you know that in the past the gakpo has been kind of the Swiss army knife and used in midfield left, right, center and all this sort of thing. And I'm seeing them coming on and you're going, okay, well, who's going to play up top? And it's like, it's probably going to be gakpo but with the performance that he put in off of the left wing against Milan where I thought he was absolutely fantastic and the continued performances that he puts in for the Netherlands playing as that left winger. And him coming out and saying that it's his preferred position. He thinks he plays the best off of the left wing and it's like, man, I hope that we just stick with him on the left wing. So I really kind of like the fact that we've got Kiaza to come in to play through the center and maybe could have brought the Ojada on to play through the middle. We know that he can do that as well too. But it's, I think it would be nice if we can kind of just nail Cody gakpo down and go like you and Louis Diaz are going to platoon swap as the left winger and you don't have to worry about playing six other positions for us anymore. You do one thing and do it extremely well. Yeah. Yeah. I think I think that can be said about a few players in our team. I think you can see that with Gravenberch where, you know, you give him one position instead of having him be the jack of all trades thing, give him one position, show him exactly what you want him to do and let him thrive. I think gakpo can be exactly the same on the left wing. I think, you know, he was sort of our utility man last season and I don't think that was his fault. I think that was just clop trying to utilize him in a variety of different positions because there were so many shortcomings in our team. But for his sake, I think he deserves a run in his preferred position because, and that it's not just him saying it's his preferred position. Like Carvalio was saying that his preferred position was the 10. I think it actually is where he shines. Like, he was so good against Milan and he didn't really shine quite as much today. Like, he only had 10 minutes or so, but I do want to see him stay there going forward because I do think having him and Luis Diaz is just, I don't think there's a better duo to kind of interchange on the left wing and the entire lead. Yeah. And they share a lot of similarities but also have quite different like strengths in terms of what they're absolutely the best at and Luis Diaz has that explosive pace where he can just take his full back on. But Gacko is so much stronger. I don't know. It's, it's all very good. All very good. Karen B says the shot from Kiaza with the left foot to hit the inside of the post was nice even though he was just offside. I had that one started my notes as well too. Again, because it was another unbelievable long ball from Ibu Kanate that leads up to it. He had just drifted offside. It's a great first touch from Cody Gacko gets the ball back to Kiaza left footed shot off the inside of the post. And it's like, oh, like that was the only thing that could have made the day go better with the exception of most scoring because again, he was also my fantasy captain. But then we get the last kind of crazy bit of moment in it. It was, it was their ninth corner yet was their ninth corner. And I don't know how it didn't go in. It was only on they showed a replay a couple of minutes after the fact when there was a little bit of a break in the play and they could show a different angle from it that you see the hand that Kuvien Kelleher gets to the ball. Because I think it was Cody Gacko's header that was bar down and look at it. And then it hit Trent, I think. Yeah. For all intents and purposes, it should have been an own goal except for the save that Kelleher puts in and he was great all day. He was really good. Every time he steps in and like it's, it's to my own fault. Like I still get nervous sometimes when he steps in. Because I, Alison is so high in my book, but like every time Kelleher plays a full match, I'm like, oh, like I remember how good he is. And I also just, I sit there and I wonder like, how the hell did nobody come in for him at $25 million, like at your pounds, I guess, like how did nobody come in? He's so good. Like, well, and I mean, who was it for us came in and offered us by Matt Turner? I mean, you can't, you can't imagine us having kept a clean sheet today if we had to rely on Matt Turner. I think we might have lost. That's a low blow, but I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll allow it. I'll allow it. I'm going to need the referee here. There was another one too that he had a good save against, I think it was a Tara at the near post. Oh, no, it was Sinistera. It was just before that corner, actually, and it was an elite up, but it was what led to that corner. Sinistera seemed like he was offside. It wasn't called on the field. He gets a good dribble on the left hand side. But it was about the only time that one of the born with players really got the best of Trent and Kanate on that side. And Kelleher makes a strong save when Sinistera goes for the near post, and then he follows it up with that clearance off of the line. So yeah, it just, it, it goes to show the value that we have in our backup goalkeeper. And if you don't want to meet that valuation from it, then I think they're just going to let him run his contract out and he can go find another team on a free because if you're not willing to offer us 25, 30 million pounds for this goalkeeper, I don't know what you're looking at. I mean, Brian O'Hara, and he says far better than Picario, Spurs should have gone for him a year ago. I agree with that. There's something to be said for that because yeah, as good as Picario started last season and he seemed like he was just this dynamite signing that Spurs have picked out of nowhere towards the end of the season, you really saw his weakness. And one of those is from defending set pieces and yeah, just not, not looking good for them. I, the game kind of Peters out after that, we don't need to, we don't need to push. We've got control, there's, you know, they kind of threatened a little bit. Like I said, they had a litany of corners kind of finish the game off with, but in the end, it's a comfortable victory. Four out of five clean sheets in the league. We've only conceded one goal in five league games, two goals and six games overall. Three goals, you know, helps boost that goal differential up a tiny little bit. We're getting another name on the score sheet in Darwin Nunes and that's what four or five goals in five games for Louis Diaz now. I think he has four now. Yeah. Somebody said that he's like a third of the way to his goal total from last season. So I mean, we're, yeah, well, that's what we wanted. I mean, like we all said, if he could add goal contributions at the end of his, like if he just needed the end product and, and it seems like spots somehow been able to bring that out in him. So I am thrilled with the fact that he didn't leave because we were all going to sell him and we had him out the door and we had his dad suitcases packed and his visa that was gone. And I'm just, I'm so glad that he stuck around. Thank you. Know the Brooks ghost. Think again, introducing the all new better than ever ghost 16. Yeah, I mean, it's we did I'm pretty sure I think every single one of us that played our little purse strings game in the summer had him sold and because it just seemed like he was going to agitate for the move and you know, he came out at the last international break and said, I need to be playing you know, number one, I need to be the starting goalkeeper. It's like, yeah, but we also have an issue where we have the world's best goalkeeper. So you're never going to overtake him on form. He also picks up a few little niggly injuries. So why don't you just stick around because you're going to get game time and he's proven his value again today. And that's that's why we don't let him go on the cheap and you don't trade him for a player like a Matt Turner because that would be that would be absolutely absolutely disastrous or, you know, James Young Trafford or anybody like that. Who did you like for man of the match today? I think a few of them could have could have done I'm going to give it to you. I think I think the easy target is to go for G.S. because he got the he got the double, but I thought even had a great game. Like I thought he played a big role in creating those games or those goals. I think that there was like one moment at the very end of the game that we didn't touch on. I think it was like 92 minutes where he made a double block and then he celebrated with himself like that he had I don't know it was almost like he had scored a goal. And that to me was just the epitome of his entire game. I was I was really, really happy with him. Yeah. Yeah, I it seems like I mean with the exception Anthony Boylan saying Darwin man of the match for him. And that I mean Chris Goldie, Red Armchair supporter, Gar Mack, all giving man of the match. Evo Kanate, Sam Tandy going with Alexis. Another very good shout. I think Alexis, I think Grappenberg could have given you could give the shout to them. Obviously it's always hard to go against the guy that scores two goals, but I I'm in agreement that it was it was Kelleher or that Kelleher, I'm reading Gucci'd up to comment. I'm going with Kanate as well to I mean, even in the first three minutes, I think he won three aerial duels in like the first two or three minutes. And you see the strength that we have, depending set pieces, like I said, they had nine corners, they didn't really threaten except for one that we almost put into our own goal. Not a huge team born with our so they're never really going to threaten from from those set pieces. But it's the strength, the pace, the positioning that he's always shown, but then adding that offensive threat to it is just like it makes him such a perfectly well rounded player. And it seems like he's staying fit. So if he can be says the exact same, he just needs to stay fit, like if we can get a good solid season that you cannot be not missing an extended period of time through injuries, then oh, we have some center half partnership because again, like Virgil Bandike, another just solid game just taking along like. I think we went through talking about the whole match, and I don't think we mentioned his name once. Yeah. But you know what, like he was just kind of silently working in the background, he was doing this thing. I think that was the good thing about this game, like nobody stood out in a negative way. Everyone was, there was the outstanding players and then everyone else was really just doing their job well. And Virgil kind of fell into that category. And I think because he was doing the hard work, you who got to shine, which was great. Yeah, that's a really good way of putting it because I mean, I would also say that like Trent and Robertson would probably fall into that category where they didn't do anything, you know, absolutely spectacular, but they just, they kept it all ticking over. They weren't making any awful ricks at the back. I would solve his life probably in that category as well too, wasn't absolutely outstanding. But by no stretch of the imagination, like I don't think anybody was below a six out of 10. Yeah, I agree. I think, I think they all had really, really solid games. Yeah. And skews repeat saying Virgil being anonymous is an extremely good sign. Just like when you talk about NFL football, if you're not saying the names of your corner backs and safeties, that's a good sign because that means they're not getting beat and you're not giving up touchdowns and things like that. So it's, and yeah, Anthony Boylan, it's bang on, clean sheets are the best feeling. Virgil loves clean sheets. He absolutely loves clean sheets. Like they worked hard for that clean sheet too. Like I genuinely think that Bormith will go away from that being like, how did we not score? Like it was, they were peppering us at the very end and they did have their chances. And I do think that like, our defense and Kelleher worked really hard to keep that clean sheet. Yeah. And Garmack making no bones about it. He says, Ibu was so good today. He made VV fucking D look average. I mean, if Virgil Van Dyke is the average, then you've got a hell of a crop of players, a hell of a crop of players at Sam Tandy says everyone was like five or below out of 10 against four. Today it was seven or over out of 10. That's all you need in these types of games to win. And yeah, I mean, that's what it is. We weren't perfect. So somebody in the telegram chat that was saying like, you know, if our, if our final pass had been a little bit better, we could have had five, six, seven goals. But we had three, like our final passing was so much better than it was against force because it was the Ismola games for us when we got into that final 18 yards and needed to put that decisive final pass in. But today we had more than enough. We had those couple of chances that little spell in there at that half an hour mark where we get the three goals. And if you just take your chances and you don't waste those opportunities and, you know, you waste those opportunities and then the air gets sucked out of the stadium and everybody kind of gets down on themselves. But instead, I mean, the power is scoring a goal. It makes, makes all the difference, all the difference. Just want to have a little quick chat about some of the other matches that we're on today. But before we do that, I'll remind everybody, as always, we're still continuing to raise money for the two charities that we've picked out to help out this year. We're going to raise money, 10,000 euros for fan-supporting food banks and Liverpool, the Lighthouse Cafe in Dublin, both providing meals to people that are food insecure. It's a tough old slog. We know that everybody's kind of feeling the cost of everything going up, inflation being crazy, cost of living prices and whatnot. If you can donate a couple of quick to that, that would be absolutely fantastic with the same way. Come on. But if you can't share, and that's totally understandable, if you can just take the link that you'll find, whether it's in the YouTube description or your podcast description or on any of the Talkin' Cops social media and just share it out amongst all your friends and family, you never know who's going to see that and realize that it's a good cause and has a couple extra bucks that they can throw in and help get us to our fundraising target because we're just not going to stop mentioning it and continue on. Anything stand out from the other results for you, Ashley? What does everybody ever tend to do? They didn't win. I mean, the one thing that stands out is we are top of the table right now, which I enjoy very much. I like that. Yes. You know, I think I had the Aston Villa game on in the corner and they were down like one nail the wolves for a while and I was like, "What is going on here?" I absolutely thought that they would walk all over them and in the end they did, but they did struggle for like, I want to say the first like 60 minutes of the game, which was interesting and then they just absolutely put them to bed. So just sort of like another indication from Villa that they're not going away and that they are, I think going to be like real competitors for top six, top four positions. Yeah, they've had, I mean, especially Morgan Rogers has been kind of a revelation because I can't say anything about him and I see here it looks like he got two assists today. I mean, yeah, Watkins gets the leveling goal in the 73rd minute. Watkins gets the lead in 88 and then hungry like the wolf, John Duran, who is just on an absolute tear to start the season, makes it 3-1 in the fifth minute at a time for them. And yeah, Brian O'Hara, I'm pointing out, Fulham beating Newcastle 3-1, I mean, Newcastle and... Yeah, they haven't been great. Like... No. I don't know, I haven't watched a ton of them, but I mean, Eddie Howe's got to be under a little bit of pressure. Yeah, and that's what Brian said in the rest of the comment there. Like if he doesn't finish in the top four, they've got to move on from him. I've never rated him as that level, like if the Saudis want Newcastle to be that team that becomes the new member of the top six or the big six or the top four or whatever the crap it is, I just don't think he's the manager for that. This is some disappointing news that you... I know. I just saw that. Aloni Callum-Scanlan has been forced to return from Millwall due to a stress fracture in his back. Yeah. So it's a very similar injury that Calvin Ramsey and Connor Bradley both had. So it's kind of one of those things that it seems to happen right around that age mark with all the game time. So it's just... It's disappointing for him. They're saying expected to miss four months out, but will be assessed at the AXA after about six weeks of recovery. So yeah, it doesn't look like he's going to be getting a lot of game time this year, which is unfortunate. Yeah. That's too bad because, I mean, I know at least Lewis Coomass seems like he's having pretty decent time of things on loan at Stoke. It's like he's leading the line for them too. I looked at their lineup they had at the cup there the other day and he seemed like he was down as the center forward. So I mean, that's good to see that some of the lonies are doing okay, but you never like seeing some of the players get injured. I don't know if I missed some of your post match. They've kind of only been coming out recently. Yeah. Well, there's a slot talking about Kella Hurry says we have to give him credit because he made some very good saves. And I also like how we defended in the end phase of the game with the blocks we had. It's nice to have in that position more than one quality player. Virgil says very happy with the clean sheet three now and now we focus on the care about cup. Oh, and then there's your thing. Yes. So Trenton Robertson tied for most assist by a defender in Premier League history with 59, which is absolutely absolutely fantastic and then our day on the traveling Liverpool fans in Milan says seeing so many of you up in the gods spread across an entire stand was a wonderful thing. The support the support we received was incredible. If he thinks that's how you should see the away fans in Barcelona continues to say even though you were so heavily outnumbered, you really made yourselves heard and this definitely helped our performance. I mean, yeah, I think today actually that's something to mention. Like, Anne Field sounded really good on my feed today. It was compared to Forest and I don't, again, I can't tell what they do with the broadcasting and whatnot. Like whether or not they turn the sound up, but like today it sounded really good. And especially at that point where the goal was disallowed, it immediately like spurred the fans on even louder. And I just, I wanted to point that out because I know there was a little bit of criticism about Anne Field last week and this week it seemed like there was a big improvement. Yeah, Anthony Boyland is echoing that sentiment as well. So the atmosphere was definitely better today. From a little bit earlier, Garmax's we could play a fully changed 11 mid week and still better West Ham. They're so bad. Yeah, not a, not a great performance from West Ham. By the time I woke up, because again, those games started 5.30 in the morning for me. By the time I woke up, it was too nothing to Chelsea, I was like, oh, yeah, I feel like they might be missing boys and not saying something. Like, I genuinely do think that they didn't realize how good they had it. Like, I just don't think he's the, I don't think law fatigue is like the right fit for that team. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? Paved paradise and put up a parking lot, but I can tell you one thing that was not a parking lot today. And that was our attack in the first half for an 11 minute spell because we absolutely ran riot overbornment and ended up walking up three nail winners at Anfield. Yes, Goldie. Yeah, that is Joni Mitchell. She's from my home province. She's an absolute, absolute Canadian icon. Anything else before we get out of here, Ashley? No, I think that's a wrap on a very successful Saturday morning. Yeah. What songs that, I should know the name of the song. I know the lyrics. Sorry, Karen. I can't tell you the name of the song off the top of my head. It's like doing a quiz. You get the pressure. I wrote it down on a piece of paper and gave me a half an hour to answer them. I do it all well and good. I did notice somebody there, I can't remember who it was, that said that they'd expect Ariola will be the... Isn't it Big Yellow Taxi? It might be Big Yellow Taxi, yeah. And that's what it is. Yeah. Is somebody in there said that they fully expect Ariola will be the manager of Newcastle by the start of next season, which that would be... That would be an upgrade. Yeah, that would be a half-decent show. I'm not sure Anthony late is asking if there's any score in the Palace Man United game. No, I still know, no. I just don't. Yeah. Still nil all. So I think it's about half time in that match so everybody can go off and get ready to watch the second half of that and everybody can have their fingers crossed and hope they're Crystal Palace to walk out a nice victory. And Garra, I'm not sure when you're going to be presenting next. It's... Gav didn't have the option of a viewers' call-in show today, but I love the fact that you got the bug now because it's fun to do, isn't it? See, this is all you other members in there. You need to get onto these calling shows because let Garra tell you that, why don't you do it? It's kind of fun. It does. Like the fear factor goes away after you try it. Yeah. I don't know how to explain it, but yeah, once you come on and you kind of get over that like little hump of trying it, it's really fun and it's really entertaining. And we just like to put names to faces. So it's just... It's nice to see everyone and get to know everyone a little bit better. Exactly. There's not a lot of other outlets where you get to come on as a viewer of the show and get your say live on YouTube and get it out there and let people know who you are. So, again, Kudos to Garra, who was the first caller in on a post-match call-in show after the Milan game, which was a blast and hopefully we can do some more of those. But other than that, finish at Anfield, Liverpool 3, Bournemouth-Nille, we're top of the table for now. I don't think we can finish the weekend top of the table. I don't think there's a result in the Arsenal City game that would end up with us being top of the table. Hey, if you take it where you can get it, we got 12 points on the board and that's the most important thing right now. So, thank you very much Ash for joining me. Thank you everybody in the chat for joining. Please hit the like button on the way out, share, subscribe, all that goodness. But most importantly, please help us support our two charities so we can get to our fundraising target. But until then, there'll be a show tomorrow night, the regular Sunday night. Hopefully you'll have all four of the guys back in there, but we'll see you after the next match. Adios. This podcast is part of the Sports Social Podcast Network. [BLANK_AUDIO]
