Shabbos 113

  1. One is allowed to make a knot for attaching rope across the opening of a yard so animal doesn’t leave bc it’s temporary and will be undone when animal goes out. This is true even if there are two ropes.

  2. One may tie a girdle to a pail (like to draw water) bc the girdle is used so knot will be temporary. But it’s forbidden to use a rope bc it may be a permanent knot. R Yehuda allows a weavers rope to be used bc the weaver will take it away when he needs to do work but the Rabanan prohibit even the weaves rope as גזירה to other ropes.

  3. If the rope of a pail snaps in the middle, R Yehuda does not allow even a bow knot (a slip knot) to be made to attach the two ends bc he holds a bow knot is a knot. The Rabanan allow a slip knot bc it’s simply not considered a knot and it doesn’t even resemble a regular knot.

  4. Weavers instruments are not muktzeh. Even though they are made for work, it is still possible to use them for other uses so it’s not muktzeh. The heavy beams that hold the loom is a dispute if they are muktzeh bc of their heavy weight. The vertical poles should be moved bc after they are pulled out, one may come to level the floor which is boneh.

  5. It’s permitted to fold clothing on Shabbos for later usage on Shabbos as long as the following conditions are met: It’s done by one person only, the clothing is new, it’s white clothing, and one doesn’t have more clothes. Otherwise it is forbidden bc it’s fixing the garment.

  6. One should not prepare on Shabbos for after Shabbos by making the beds. However, acc to r Yishmael one can prepare on Yom Kippur for Shabbos bc Shabbos’s holiness is higher. R akiva hold it’s forbidden bc the holiness of Yom Kippur ad Shabbos is equal.

  7. One din of kavod Shabbos is to have special clothes. It is forbidden to examine business needs on Shabbos or discuss them, but it’s ok to think about them.

  8. It’s forbidden to walk with large strides on Shabbos. If one has to cross a stream and the only plausible way it by jumping over it, it’s permitted.

  9. Someone who walks With large strides looses 1/500th of their eyesight. This can be restored from kiddush Friday night.

  10. It is inadvisbale to eat dirt even for medicinal purposes. It is harmful to the the body. Dirt from Bavel has bad associations with ancestors buried there.

  11. Rus wore Shabbos clothes when she went to Boaz granery. She wisely only adorned herself once she got there so ppl wouldn’t think she was a prostitute.

  12. Boaz was impressed by Rus modestly on not bending down to pick up to grains but rather sitting and that she was well aware of Hikchos Leket.

  13. Sancheirevs army besieged Jerusalem and miraculously died. Their bodies burned without their clothes burning. Or only their souls burned without their bodies burning.
