  1. The Gemara describes a therapy for a bad fever that involves using a thornbush and referencing the story of Moshe and the burning bush. Hashem used the thornbush bc it is so low and humble. Other therapies for boils, blisters, and demons are described.

  2. Mishna permits anyone to go out with gold bells that princes go out with. Why aren’t we scared they will be taken off in the street bc they don’t “fit” regular people? Either they must be tied in to the garment or we’re following R shimon’s opinion that כל ישראל בני מלכים- are Jews at their essence are viewed as being noble like princes.

  3. The rabbis don’t allow healings in general that are Amorite customs. Examples are eggs from a locust that helps for earache, tooth from fox that helps with sleep, or nail from gallows that helps with wounds. R Meir allows it bc these are effective healings and it is even permitted to go out with them on Shabbos. The Gemara rules leniently like R Meir.

  4. One can paint a tree what is producing fruit too quickly and it’s not דרכי אמורי bc the red paint serves purpose of alerting the public to pray for the tree.

  5. Effective healings are not דרכי אמורי, like getting rid of bones in throat, but random superstitions are forbidden. Putting glass in pot is permitted bc it is effective to get it to cook quicker, but the rabbis think it’s a dangerous practice.

  6. One can put salt in lamps so it will burn brighter, and it’s ok to put clay under a lamp so it will burn slower.

  7. It’s בל תשחית to waste oil in a lamp.

  8. Toasting rabbis is no
