Young Israel of Westside Shiurim

Shabbos 44

  1. Leftover oil in lamp lit on Shabbos is muktzeh according to r Yehuda but not muktzeh according to r shimon

  2. מוקצה מחמת מיאוס- a kli that became gross and unlikely to be used on Shabbos. (Example: an old earthenware lamp, not lit on shabbks even) r Yehuda holds its muktzeh but r Meir and r shimon do not.

  3. מוקצה מחמת איסור- a kli that was inaccessible when Shabbos began bc it would be violating Shabbos. (A lit lamp) it’s muktzeh acc to r Yehuda and r Meir but not acc to r shimon

  4. R shimon agrees by large cup of oil or bowl lit that it remains muktzeh for Shabbos bc one had no anticipation that the candle would go out. He only disagreed by the small lamp.

  5. Taking out oil from lit candle is forbidden bc of extinguishing. (Candle flickers) But r elezar son of r Shimon allows it if the flame was almost out

  6. If one verbally designated a bed to hold money, the bed is not muktzeh. If one also used the bed to hold money, it becomes a “money holder” and it a muktzeh item.

  7. If someone placed money on a bed before Shabbos, the bed becomes a בסיס and cannot be moved on Shabbos. If the muktzeh was moved off the bed on Shabbos, it’s dispute between r shimon and r Yehuda is the bed remains muktzeh

  8. A removable wheel from a coach is treated like a separate kli from the coach. If there’s a muktzeh item on the wheel, the wheel becomes a בסיס and can’t be moved.
