Young Israel of Westside Shiurim

Shabbos 34

  1. R shimon be Yochai did kind deed for the community. There was a road where doubt occurred about whether dead bodies were buried there and kohanim couldn’t go. RASHBI fixer this issue. He killed someone who ridiculed him and he also killed the person who originally told on him

  2. B4 Shabbos a person should say in his house- did you tithe? Make eiruv? Light candles. He should say these things gently

  3. Bein hashmahos one can’t tithe but they could tithe demai which is a doubt to begin with. Bein hashmashos one cannot make eiruv techumin but they could make eiruv chatzeiros and insulate pots

  4. An eiruv techumin must be there at onset of Shabbos, intact. We treat bein hashmashos leniently, so if after the fact someone made eiruv during bein hashmashos, it works. Or if eiruv was eaten bein hashmashos, were lenient

  5. Can’t insulate with elements that don’t add heat on Shabbos. Rabbis were scared someone would warm up food to leak temp right before insulating.

  6. Can’t insulate with elements that add heat even on Friday. Rabbis were concerned someone would insulate with remetz- ash mixed with coals- and would stoke coals on Shabbos

  7. Bein Hashmashos could be all day, all night, part of both. Makes dif for zav who sees bein hashmashos two days in a row. He may have seen 3 days in a row (korban+tumah) 2 days in a row (tumah) or seen then had a day separating (no tumah)

  8. Bein hashmashos- like r yehuda. Rav yehuda explains it starts after sunset and goes for next 13.5 minute. Both when eastern sky is red and even when the bottom half is dark until the top is dark also. Rabba says it first starts when the bottom part of sky gets dark and lasts 12 min R Nechemiah says bein hashamahks is 9 min R Yosi says it’s blink of an eye after night begins acc to the other two
