The mishna said the rule is everyone must be reclining together for one person to be motzi others. That is for bread. What about wine? There are 3 opinions. One opinion is that wine is the same as bread. 2nd opinion is that for wine one persons can never be motzi others. 3rd opinion is that for wine one can be motzi others even if they’re sitting together and not reclining.

During meal itself, one person should not be motzi others bc it is difficult to concentrate on a bracha during a meal when the throat is full.

There is a concept that the one who starts receiving a kibud should finish it. Like in the mishna the one who is motzi others with Hagafen should also be honored with being motzi others with blessing on the incense. Similarly, the one who is honored with washing mayim achronim first should lead the bentching. (Even if someone more important is present)

The bracha on smells should be made once the smoke is rising even before once has smelled the scent.

There is a bracha of עצי בשמים that is recited on good smelling woods, but the gemara rules it is only if the wood is actually present and being smelled, but not with incense where the wood is burned. There, the bracha should be מיני בשמים. Ground wood in oil is dispute if it’s still עצי בשמים. There’s also a special bracha for good smelling balsam oil.

Hard stalks also count as עצי בשמים, even though they are not actually wood- like jasmine.

Roses- it depends whether the stalks are soft or hard.

There is a special bracha on good smelling fruits- נותן ריח טוב בפירות.

There’s a special bracha for blossoming trees in nissan.

Between fragrant oil and wine- it’s a dispute which one to make bracha on. Maybe smell bc it’s immediate pleasure or wine bc it goes into the body.

Torah scholars don’t wear perfume, go out alone, talk to women in the street, wear ripped shoes, eat with unlearned people, or come last to study hall, walk with erect posture, or walk too quickly.
