Brachos 32

  1. There is a theme that Hashem is responsible for our shortcomings, as the Pesukim describe that now we don’t have real spirit or heart.

  2. Moshe blames Hashem for the golden calf bc Hashem Provided the Jews with too much gold and silver

  3. Moshe lost his strength after the golden calf bc his strength came from the Jews greatness. However, bc Hashem told Moshe to leave Him alone, Moshe understood that he had the ability to daven and he was encourage to do so.

  4. Moshe grabbed Hashem and wouldn’t let go until He forgave the Jews.

5.ויחל משה- many interpretations. Moshe harasses Hashem, he nullified Hashem vow, he offered his life, he invoked middah of mercy, he told Hashem it wasn’t a holy thing to destroy the Jews, or he was overcome with a fierce fever.

  1. Moshe argues that since Hashem promised in His great name, he can’t go back on his promises to the Avos

  2. Moshe argues that the world will say Hashem became like a female and is unable to kill 31 kings

  3. We learn from Moshe to first praise Hashem and then make requests

  4. Moshe merited to see Israel bc of his prayers and not bc of his good deeds

  5. Fasting is higher level than charity bc it is with ones actual body

  6. Tefillah is higher level than Korbanos

  7. After Churban Habayis, the gates of Tefillah are closed and there is an iron wall that divides between us and Hashem, but the gates of tears in never closed

  8. It is good to daven long and persistent with lots of concentration. However, it is bad to expect Hashem to fulfill the request bc one davened.

  9. The proof that Hashem has hit forgotten us is that all the stars and constellations were made for the Jews and they continue to exist after the Churban

  10. Hashem tell us He has selective memory to recall our Korbanos and Matan Torah but not the sin of golden calf.

  11. One should prepare in Shul b4 davening, as it’s יושבי ביתך b4 יהללוך סלה. Similarly, after Tefillah one should linger in Shul.

  12. When the mishna said not to return greeting to King mid Shmone Esrei, that’s only a Jewish king but one could return a greeting to a non Jewish king who would not understand. (Bc of danger)
