Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with the Kiwis. Great to be with you for another episode of the program. It's a big weekend of racing coming up. And as always, we've got Butch Castle, the CEO of Likado Thore Red Racing on the program. Morning. Butch, how are you? Yeah, good. Thanks, Jordan. Looking forward to this weekend. Yes, it's going to be a big weekend and as far as Alazli back. It's great to have us racing at headquarters again. So important to the New Zealand industry. Some massive days upcoming at Alazli as we head into the summer. And Caracamillion's Champions Day. The first of those. The first NZB Kiwi. Yep. Fingers crossed everything sorted at Alazli. They've had plenty of trials and jumpouts too. Make sure that that is the case. And tomorrow it goes to the next level, if you like, with a race day. Yep, absolutely. The much anticipated return at Alazli race course. And Wonganui as well further south hosting this weekend as well. Thanks to guests coming up on the program today. Alan Sharak will be with us in just a moment. But first up, it's a pleasure to welcome in Leith Innes onto the program. Morning, Leith, how are you? Yeah, morning. How are we going? Had a lot of rain and thunder and lightning up the Northland last night. So it's pretty amazing that the Alazli trek come up at a soft fire this morning. Yeah, Leith, that's right. That's the Strathia nature. We see it in Australia, at Mooney Valley, rain the night before and it sort of compacts it as much as anything. So let's hope that the day dawns fine Saturday and they have a nice day to really test this wonderful new facility. We'll go to race two to start with, and Arias was confidently expected to get the job done. Ed Hastings found one better on the day. There's just left a little flat footed when they sprinted halfway up the straight, no doubt being trained for a middle distance. He gets it tomorrow with 2,100 metres and look on what we've seen from him and the fact he's drawn to get a gun run should be awfully hard to beat. Yeah, certainly, our face failure looked at the supporting, but he had to sort of cut the field up as well. It walks by over a mile. Obviously he got 59 in the half at barrier one, and Matt Cartwright heading across this right for the Sean Ritchie and Colin Murray. And a pretty light sort of race, he looks like he'll kick the punters pretty early. Talking about Matt Cartwright, Leith, someone that you're doing his rides, he's made an absolute flier of a start to his Sojourne into New Zealand and the way that he's going. Can't imagine that he'd want to be anywhere else at the moment. No, certainly not. Obviously he won the great one. He's given a pretty good profile to begin his career in New Zealand. And since then he's also had a couple of looked and went for a time to fight last week down there at Christchurch. And he's certainly got a very good book tomorrow. Yeah, sure has. Right, let's look through the quality leagues. Race is five, six, seven and eight. Race five thought a pretty open affair. There's been, look, it's been really good, the form showing by Twain. Both of them have been on rain-affected tracks. We'll get a bit of surface tomorrow, but he has looked good. Merchant Queen, we saw her win on the track early when it came back in in the New Year. She's drawn the bullet, so should be pretty handy throughout. But I thought other chances like Luba on as well, tough enough race. Yeah, a really tough race to start the quantity to have him. Obviously 14 runners, a stack of speed in the race as well. So, Luba on said three trolls in. Look, she's drawn a barrier 10, 58.5 kilos. But I'll talk to last night and look during the weekend. She worked the house down on Tuesday. She'll be awfully hard to beat. Warren Kennedy with that association with the stable. As you talk about speed in the race, Merchant Queen looks the leader from the one gate. Yeah, certainly. Her run was pretty good last week at, sorry, two weeks ago at Hawkes way. She was only maybe 2.8 lengths, but she was out of barrier 14. So, she's obviously screwed up. She's won on the course as well. So, very won. She's definitely won. You want to be put in as well if you're wrong. Race number six. Second leg of the quality head to trackside.co.nz for all your racing news. Some good interesting articles appearing on that trackside.co.nz site, so jump across there and catch up on all the New Zealand racing information. Thought this was a good race as well. Let's see some horses here that will be racing in group company by the end of these preparations. Jolted resuming strikes me as a really progressive star. Thought what you wish for was super at Taupo and at seven and $2.70. That'll do me. Yeah, I was in the same sort of camp to Andrew. I know COVID-19 is a favorite. It's a lot of Tristan moving on the 60 kilos. I just like what I saw what you wish for. Obviously, he's going to get back from the barrier. They just seem like a genuine sort of tempo on the race. Just a little rough one. It's kind of starting down the bottom, the number 16. Looking from the race of 55 kilos. He probably needed it to push up, run it to Rapper, train by grants quickly. He's also one on the course before. He's got a great barrier too and a good track going to really suit the source if you're looking for a bit of value. It looks like they're going to choose to run him in the 75 race rather than the 65. 1,500 meters with weight comes in with five kilos. Let's imagine that's part of the thinking there. Yeah, exactly. On the Grand Cooks, he's happy how he's going as well. Right, right seven, this is the reemergence of some real stars of the New Zealand track. One in particular orchestral. We saw her win the Derby on the course after demolishing them in both the correct a million. And of course, the Evindale Guinea. She's a super high-class mayor. But it's a good field, this. She is fresh. She's got lots of weight. 60 and a half kilos. Could she be vulnerable? I think she can be a little bit. I wouldn't see any supplies if she won. Obviously she's one of the three. Look at that on the course. The three went from three back. 60 and a half kilos. Look, she's got bigger fish to fry. Looks like she might be on the plane just sitting out in this race. So look, I'm a little bit, look like a, you know, I've got to be surprised if she did come in and win the race. But just at 2.2, a little bit short for me. So who are being a bit short? And we're looking for some quality savers. Where do we go? I'm still looking at the Habana. I'm looking at controls in the prep. Here's one fresher. But last season, they ate around a flashing race over 1200 meters. It gets in, you know, 60 kilos. But area five. We didn't have to meet this. Also, Rudyard, a tiny fire course from barrier one. Looks like he might get a nice, easy lead. I'd lead it from one. Yeah, Rudyard came a long way. Last preparation. He's won six from 22. But he won a lot of them last preparation. He's had four starts at Ella's lead. Two of them have been winning performances. He maps to get that gun run, didn't he? Yeah, he certainly does. He's kind of aged a bit of the source, son. He's always shown a bit of promise. But looking to five yards now, he's had two trials to get him to it. And he's both made funny, quite forcing. Really, yeah. A few ones at the moment. Yeah, they sure are doing a great job. Right out into the last leaf. What do we need live in the quarry? What do we need on our tickets? Oh, I think we just need the number two, Andrew. I passed the time and met the branch brush up over a mile. He had 59 kilos. He was caught wide. And, look, it just worked on the last stuff people do. It's only been in 1.5 lengths from the winner. I could say, yeah, it's a pretty even lineup. It's not a real strong sort of quality race. It's a rating 55 horse. It's one of the horses. So, I think he'll be going very close to winning. And, you know, I just don't want to kill that car. And I'm tiny pike. There's a lot to like about him. He's out of that pike stable, as you say, flying at the moment. Very good run, resuming. He sort of built his form last preparation. One of those horses that looked like he kept getting better and better once he learnt what he was doing by imminent. So, he wouldn't think further would be too much of a worry for him. But, yeah, should be good enough to go very close in the last. What's the best of them at Allisley, Leaf? Yeah, I'll take you back to the last. I'll put cuts to the diamonds and it's three dollars. It's in a not an open, strong rating, 65 race. And, like a kid, there's a fair bit to like about it for a short run. And it doesn't have to prove much to be winning on Saturday. All right. $3.50 and $1.65. That'll do me. Thanks for your time. Enjoy the day. Allisley. It'd be great to get back there. You had wonderful success as a jockey there. This is something about it and so important to the New Zealand industry, isn't it? Yeah, certainly. It's great to be back there. He caught us then. Hopefully, this rain stays away from Ireland. But it's going to be a nice, good, full soft part. Yeah, for sure. Thanks, Leaf. Cheers, mate. Thank you. Leaf Ennis with us on breakfast with the Kiwis. A pleasure to have him on the program again for this week's edition. We will take a break. And after this, we'll have a chat to Alan Sharrick next on ACN Track. You're listening to Breakfast with the Kiwis. Loveracing.nz. Your home of New Zealand, thoroughbred racing news, previews, reviews, profiles and more. Welcome back to Breakfast with the Kiwis right around Australia and New Zealand on ACN Track. Jordan Canellis and Butch castles with you as we're racing at Ellersley and at Wonganooie this weekend. Our next guest on the program this morning Butch is none other than Alan Sharrick. Morning to you, Alan. How's things? Yeah, not too bad. You're trying to keep dry, but it's all as well. Sheikh El Sharrick, welcome in to the show. Look, you start in the two-year-old race. Very early for you to have a two-year-old. Elle, make it good. Let's hope it's well-named this filly. Yeah, well, yeah. That was a debaucherous night. We got that name Butch, but it's nice to pack filly for the strength and does everything right. So, looking forward to kicking it off. It's hard to know, isn't it? Not much form revealed. There's one being to the racers around third at Wonganooie. But, look, she's favourite and has been well-backed. She's 320 into $2.80. So, she must have shown something around the jumpouts. Or, must be a bit of a stable confidence with the way the monies come. Yeah, well, she's won a couple of jumpouts. It's been very natural. Galat Donner, atrocious track Tuesday morning and sort of handled that quite well. So, there is a little bit of stable confidence. But, it's the unknown of the other runners. So, yeah, when the green flag drops, the rest of it stops. But you'll see how we go. We will see how we go. Talking about that, really, really heavy up your side of the island, then Wonganooie can be no different. Saturday, it has to be very tested. Yeah, it's quite a concern. I scratched two runners late in the day. They drew inside gates. And, it's got a funny feeling. As the date transpires, they'll get wider and wider as they normally do it. Wonganooie, so, it makes it nearly impossible for your rider if they draw in to get to that outside lane. So, they can come up north next week. Right, let's go through them. As we said, we talked about the two-year-old race. Number two, you've got a horse that had its one start, a filly librero. Again, she's coming with the scratching down the bottom of turn it up. But, look, she was good on debut in a small field. Talking about that, she's got the inside draw, but a small field shouldn't make it too difficult to get where you want to be. Yeah, young Jo Doyle's got the ride drawn one. There's only, I think, six runners and that one butch. So, it shouldn't be too hard to technically work it out. She has improved slightly off a first run. Implicated blinkers. After for the librero. You handle weak ground, so I expect it to race well. Race number three, Ellen. You've got the well-supported runner here in Bella Timing. Look, she's the favourite. And even enough race, there's plenty of chances in there. There's been money for the John Wheeler's horse, Hubert, resuming. Opawa Scarlet got the job done on day boom, was backed on that occasion. But, she deserves it when Bella Timing doesn't she? Yeah, probably should've won her last one. One row home's best ride, but we'll forget that and move forward. But, yeah, she's drawn in the right part of the field butch to probably stay mid-field and get an outside run. And she's as fit as we can make her. She's got to be very hard to beat that field. Amber Rodale, doing the riding. You'd be thrilled to give her a winner early in her career, if you could. Daughter of, of course, Jonathan, who you've had a long association with. Yeah, a lot, a lot to do with Scrapper over the years from welling these people, one instant group horses. So, it'd be good to give the girl a winning opportunity. And I've been watching her. She did a good job on Tiacao's horse at Ricardin. And she's tidy enough, right? I think when it's that wet book, they don't have to flap all over them. So, she stays composed of it. She can do a job for her. You touched on Rowhan earlier. He's been doing a very good job for you. Great job for you on Saturday. Sunday here at Tiacao, but he's someone you identified early with that claim. And he's rewarded you with some good performances. Yeah, he has made an important nice lead, too. You know, when they claim for, they do make mistakes. But they stay composed and balanced. They normally get a dollar if you've got your horse right. You can afford to sit three-wise as we did on Sunday, Andrew. But a bitter in the rhythm, and when they've got 50 kilos on their back, or get the weight off and get down low in the weight. So, competitive, that's real. Right, I'm talking about that. You're claiming four kilos here with Ayish Madhu off Ladies Man. Of course, group one winner almost this time of year, really. And a month's time a year ago, he won the liver mole and then trek to Australia. But behind the eight ball with him this time, but he's got to kick off somewhere. Yeah, I'm still tossing up with it. Putting through that tomorrow go to Toronto. So, they work back from the late for age and now they're in cup days. He's a very good horse, as people know. He's been to Australia and race creatively. He's come up super butts, but he just can't get to the liver mole. He can't get the moles in. He's looking to the left. He'll be the flag bearer there. Yeah, he could be around for those late for age races over Christmas. But, yeah, whether we line up tomorrow or Friday with you, I'll make that call later in the day. Right, oh, well, one that we do know that I'll just love it. The deeper it is, the better it is for just ask me. We talked about Jonathan Rodell earlier. He does the riding and look, he just slides in at a nice enough place. 58 kilos, getting two kilos off Bellardo. Boy, you wouldn't mind that. Stan, and probably the advantage I've got of race last week, I'll be tough as teak. Later, boy, he's a good horse that comes into expression with 60 kilos. Yeah, I thought it was a winnable race for Ned, but he's hard to work out, but he does work the kids out. The race last week, from what someone reported to me, they went six seconds quicker in the 65. Then they did the open and he was back in the field. So, the run he made to get handier shipped to 400 soon came to an end with 58 kilos when they took off. So, yeah, I'm positive he'll race well to my own. It might be a nice one, so I'll call Ned. You talked about needing to get the right part of the track, John Barry and nine, from that mile start there at Wonganui. He's probably going to be in the right place the whole way. That's what gives me a bit of confidence, but you better draw one or two. We'd have been struggling to get out the whole way and make the double yard with 58 kilos on their back. So, I was happy when that marble come up. For sure. And you're talking about a swan song, it's getting towards the end. You've been talking about that for a while though, you threatened to retire him 12 months ago because he was getting too much weight. But he does such a great job for you hard to retire him. Yeah, he just keeps putting some tea in the billy and Bruce keeps sending the money down and Emma got a new car last week. So, he's doing a good job on me. He's keeping us in the lifestyle we're accustomed to anyway, butch. Well, he was your thousandth winner. I suppose he can help pay for that party as well. Yeah, well, I'm hoping he can win on Saturday because it might cost a bit that way. Race number seven, Indian Gold. Look, he's been super consistent one well on that day where everything was winning for you at New Plymouth. And he's run fourth, fourth and second last time. Rohan's going to have to do a good job from the barrier, but look, he'll appreciate the track. Here, he'll cope with the track probably on his last run for the season. I train him for a B degree, but I'm proud to end once with Pete. I scratched the other horse. He drew two. This horse drew four, but comes into three. So, technically, he's probably going to go back in midfield. It's whether we can get him out of that inside running and get round them. So, it probably deserves his favourite book. He's going to be a nice horse, could be a possible one to couple's next August. So, he'll go to the paddock after this race, but it'd be nice to go out with another win by his name. Mmm, for sure. Righto, Alan. You've got a really nice team of runners at Wonganui. What's the best of them? All blacks by 20 and 2, they'll make it good. That could be a big weekend of both of those. Get up. Righto. Thanks for your time. We'll catch up later. Thank you. Alan Sharick with us here on Breakfast with the Kiwis. Always great having him on. Butch. Ellis Lee, Wonganui, anywhere else? What are you liking this weekend? Well, I hope Alan's right. He'll make it good into the All Blacks by 20. Great. That All Black Wallaby game is in the afternoon, 5.45 New Zealand time. Just perfect, really. So, looking forward to watching that. Of course, you guys are struggling a bit, but Joe Schmidt, he's more cunning than most. He'll have them finely tuned for the All Blacks, but I think they'll be too good. So liking that, and with Leith as well, didn't mind his run in the last, but I thought Narayas was the best of the weekend in race two at Ellis Lee. So, let's see if that can unfold early. Excellent, boy. It's your pleasure as always. Thank you, and we'll chat again next week. Good man. Thank you. Before we finish off today's program of Breakfast with the Kiwis, let's get a Ladbrokes update with Jared Timbs. Take on the fun and download the Ladbrokes app today. Chances are you're about to lose. Timbs, where are we looking this weekend as we welcome you in? Well, it's a great eight-race program at Wanda Nui, Jordan. We'll kick off there, and it looks like we're going to be racing on a heavy track as well. So, be sure to keep your eye out for the mud lights here. Race three features one of the best back gallifers on the program here at Ladbrokes so far. Bella Timing, only a warm favourite at odds of $4.60, but she counts for more than half of the hold in this race. We have seen a little bit of a push for Herbert as well, though $8.50 into $7. Race five looms as another open contest, but there has been good early money for McGarler. The Ladbrokes book, he's went up with $4.20 earlier in the week. That price was snapped up immediately. He's into $3.50 today, and of course he has very, very good form on a wet track. Race six is the feature race at Wanda Nui, the group three metric mile. Bradman still holding favoritism in the Ladbrokes market, $5.00 into $4.80. There has been interest for a few of the Nova Lotto boy as well, $6.00 into $5.50. He is your Ladbrokes market mover. Just ask me $5.00 into $4.80. Soldier boy has been specced at a price as well, $21.00 into $18.00. Of course, it's always a great day of racing at Ellersley at as well. The eight race program headlined by the Elman's or proven value handicap, and even more so, the return of the star mayor this week, or Kestrel, cannot wait to see her back in action. Absolutely no surprises in the Ladbrokes market. $2.20, and she is easily the best back ever at Ellersley so far at Ladbrokes. That's it for me this week, contest. Good luck out the way. Hope you can find a winner. Thank you, Jared. Jared Tim from Ladbrokes. Take on the fun with Ladbrokes and download the Ladbrokes app today. Chances are you're about to lose.
