Today, it's a playground for holiday-makers and jet-setters, but in the early 1700s, the Bahamas was the home base of the notorious pirate Blackbeard, a man who struck such fear to the hearts of sailors that some believed him to be the devil. The Bahamas was the perfect place for piracy owing to the archipelago's proximity to Atlantic shipping lanes. Pirates were lawless, which is not what you want to be. The Bible says that sin is the transgression of the law, 1 John 3.4. Another Bible writer said that the carnal mind is enmity with God because it isn't subject to the law of God. A Christian life is subject to God's law, not that a person is saved by the law, but when Jesus enters your life and saves you by grace, he leads you into harmony with God's law. Obedience matters if not you're a spiritual pirate, lawless. And that leads nowhere good. I'm John Bradshaw for It is Written.
