Houston, a gal media station. Don't sweat the technique! We're locking with a killer bees on ESPN 97-5 and 92-5, live from the Veritex community bank studios. Here's Joel Blanken, Jeremy Brown. King of Twitch, if Houston Media and radio sports host did neck like 10-year-old girls in a Taylor Swift concert, maybe he'd be a little bit more grounded, he'd be being stralled. Ryan says, "I just think he lacks a certain type of self-awareness, and it's just nice, I don't think it's ego or big head." For the record, I want my quarterback to feel like he's an alpha. Even if the folks in Chicago don't feel like he's earned that status yet of being Tom Brady, and maybe they're right, maybe they're right, maybe he hasn't earned that status yet. But I rather my quarterback act like he had than act like he's just one of the guys, just this run-of-the-mill quarterback in the NFL. So even if he does have like a disproportional value of what his real value is, which I don't think he does, but even if he did, I'm okay with that. I want my quarterback to think he is the best in the world. Quarterbacks have always been that way. The good ones always have ego. We've seen it throughout time, and even when there's some that are a little bit more reserved in how they let it show, the Joe Montana's of the world, they still believe they were the best on the planet. They still had the attitude that you can't beat me, and I think that we talk about diva-wide receivers, but a lot of the aura of the diva-wide receivers ego, and because they believe that they are the best, and you want your quarterback to feel that way. So from the perspective of the Chicago media thinking that they want their quarterback to kind of not have the time for it, because they should want him to feel like he's better than CJ, and he's going to be that and more. I get all that. 6-4-1-9, this is a really boring topic, time to move on. We will, after our full cardboard and our 100 text messages, 6-4-4-4, with CJ been so aggressive in his comments, if it wasn't a nationally televised game. See, this is the genuine aspect of CJ Stroud. This is why I don't think it's performative, like Bernstein said in Chicago. He 100% would have said this in any setting. Yeah, I think he would have, I think that if he was asked this at the podium, he'd probably elaborate on it to some point and degree because of the fact that I think he cares, and he cares about other quarterbacks, and I think that if there's anything that he can do that can assist in anybody's career, it just seems like he's that kind of guy. So I don't, I'm not putting any of the negative on CJ, but I do understand the fact that as much as I thought he was a little flippant, but I understand from the perspective of if I just got my ass beat literally physically and with the scoreboard, I'm probably going to feel a certain kind of way until I get the next day or when I get on the plane or when I can kind of disengage a little bit to where if you want to tell me he didn't want to hear it because of that, then I totally understand it. And that's, that's really where I'm coming from the most is that I'm okay with the way Caleb Williams accepted it, and I'm okay with what Shroud said, like I'm really okay with both of the quarterback's actions. A 0702, you can have an ego and not be an a-hole, I don't think Shroud was being an a-hole. Uh, I don't know, I don't think I don't think so at all. I thought, I was like, you know, are you talking about Caleb or are you talking about? He was me and Shroud, I think. You could actually. Because I don't think Caleb Williams was acting like an ego there. He didn't say anything. He was being like, yeah, that sounds good. He's because you appreciate you. Maybe because you're being standoffish or flippant about it. It's because you have an ego and feel like, you know, you're as good as he is. Yeah. Maybe that's the case. 713780ESP. Let's go out to the HR and Pete listener line. Jeff, you're in the hive of the bees. What's up, Jeff? Hey, guys. Real quick, I don't want to beat it over here. I agree with everything. I just want to throw two things in quick and I get off. One, it's kind of like, I'm real competitive myself. Um, he just lost the game myself. I don't want to hear enough of anybody. I want to chill. Um, and I also think that CJ would have approached him when it roots. In my opinion. Sure. Great show, guys. I'll get off and listen. Yeah, I do think there's an element of competitiveness to Caleb Williams. I've seen a lot of Caleb Williams because I've watched the hard knocks thing and I've watched his press conferences this week. He's very, I don't want to say lack of dasical, but he's very relaxed. He's very chill. He's very like, yeah, you know, go with the flow type of guy. The butterfly comment too, about how the fact the last time he had butterflies was in high school, like, yeah, to just say basically, hey, I don't have butterflies before games, big games are otherwise as part of that. Um, on the other side to Jeff's call too, I think that well, JJ Watt was on with a McAfee today and JJ Watt said, I don't have post game on the field, especially if I lose. I don't have time for long conversations. I don't want to do Jersey swaps. I just want to get the hell out of Dodge because I'm that pissed that I lost because I'm a competitor. Whenever I lose to my dad at gin, I don't want to hear his BS. Like, you know what I mean? Yeah. Like competitors don't want to hear things from their peers. And like that, you know, that that's the way people are. Some people are like that. Like this text says what CJ act like Caleb, if my homes did that to him, I don't think so. I think shroud would be a tentative. I think shroud would take what my homes is giving them, but that doesn't make either guy wrong. Right. Yeah. Again, everybody's different. We're talking with everyone with their own individual personality and ego and beliefs. And we don't know how anybody's thinking. All we know is what we see because we're getting the perception based on what TV just presented to us. So we don't know what Caleb's thinking and we don't know we have a good understanding. We think of CJ because we see him all the time. But from the standpoint of the Chicago media, they don't. And if it comes off that way, I can understand why they can they look at it that way. 713 7803776, key from LA being a vocal leader is what you wanted a quarterback with CJ did there is what I want to see out of my quarterback and it's okay to take advice from your peers. Yeah, that's fine. But it's also okay to not take advice from your peers. Like it's okay to be like, yeah, that's cool. I appreciate what you're saying to me in this moment. Thanks. Talk to you later. That's fine. From keys perspective, wouldn't that I wouldn't it also be if you're saying that that I'm all about it, you know, him doing that to his team and in his locker room. But if he just went over and shook hands and said, good luck, bro, and turned around and walked away. He's still a leader. He's still doing it with his. We saw what he did with the rookies. We know what he does within his own team. Will Anderson talks about it. Lots of guys talk about it. But there's a difference between doing it in your own locker room for the benefit of your own team. And then do you feel like it's necessary to go do that to another quarter back in the league, especially a guy the same age? Yeah, 713 7803776. I think he's accountable. I'm just coming from keloland's like, you're an equal to me, bro. Why are you talking to me like you're my dad? Let's go back out to the HRP listener line, Tim from Northside's in the hive. What's up, Tim? Hey, guys, I know we're not talking about intent or anything, but is there anyone who would know table Williams situation better than today's trial? He's not going to get it back from Bryce Young being a high pick. And then if you're capable, you just got to take it. Like you're on TV, like, you know, he's trying to help or whatever. You just got to kind of shut up and just let him get his little speech off and then just walk out. I don't know. I think he did that. I think Caleb Williams did that. I think Caleb Williams stood there, took it. He thought the conversation was over. He was walking away. CJ called him back. He came back and then listened to what he had to say. It's it's but that's part of it. I think part of it that gets misconstrued is the fact that he walked away and then was CJ kind of pulled him back. But then it was, like I said, then it's just that kind of flippiness of just kind of the facial expressions and it looked like he was kind of like, okay, maybe they're not boys though. That's right. But what I'm saying is that again, we talk about this all the time, the media perception that all everybody's because all we're doing is watching it off TV. And then we're passing judgment. But at the same time, you know that athletes, especially nowadays, they're going to play to the cameras. They're going to they're going to play to the cameras. And if you know the cameras are on, you can fake it too. But if he's not one of those guys that's up for faking it, then you should accept that that he's just he acted how he was. He's getting put under a microscope for every year these days for sure. And hard knock added it hard knocks is added to that. And even stuff before he left us he added to that. So now anything he does is going to be hyper screwed. I kind of like Caleb Williams. I'll be honest. I think I'm in the minority there. I kind of like him. I think he's gonna be good too. I think he made some throws in that first half of the game on Sunday that were elite throws. You had remember that passenger Ference Kalen Bullock right at the goal? That was an elite throw. That was a C. J. Shroud type of throw. But I mean, it was interference. It's still productive. It got him inside the goal inside the five. One of the one of the wheel routes that came up with a back out of the backfield who was covered with pressure in his face. And he led the running back down the sideline and put it where the only place the running back can catch it was the first one that caught my eye going. Oh, no, no, no, he's not like a Bryce. No, I don't I think he's got a villain. I think he's been real good. Zach, if Caleb Williams thinks he's an equal to Shroud, he's sorely mistaken. But I don't think he was like that. I just think he thought the combo was over. Do you think the I think so too? I really think the Caleb thought I don't think they're boys. I think it was just a quick dad. Hey, good luck to you the rest of the year. And then, you know, go about your way. And then he was like, Oh, Shroud's still talking. Let me come back real quick. He said, do you think to a situation could have been on CJ's mind seeing him taking those hits repeatedly? I don't think so at all. Yeah, I don't think so at all. But I think that that's where the misconception happens is the break where he thought it was over and was walking away. And then CJ kind of had to grab him back and then he kind of looked like, Oh, you're not done and came back. That's where people are are pouncing seven one three seven eight zero. Yes, I do. I do think it's outrageous to call CJ performative though. That's slander really. Let's go back out to the HRP listener line, Mike from Lake Jackson. You're in the hive of the bees. What's up, Mike? Hey, how's it going guys? Long time listener, long time Houston Texans fan. Man, I really don't think CJ did anything wrong. And I don't think Caleb Williams did anything wrong. But honestly, Caleb kind of has a persona that a lot of people think are kind of diva-ish. And like I said, I may or may not be wrong. But, you know, I think what's making this story bigger than what it actually is from the Chicago media standpoint is I still think that they're still mad that they traded away so much to get the same production that they have with Justin Fields. Now, I know it's only two games, but I just I think it's getting blown out proportion and this really isn't a story. Yeah. I think Chicago media is just reaching for something. Mike from like Jack's appreciate the call. I I actually think it's a great segment in Chicago. Quite frankly, I think I think it was a great radio. I think it's really good. Do I think it's a good take? No, because I don't think it's performative. Do I think it could be a bit presumptuous? Yes. Like if we're in Chicago right now, I think we're bashing CJ Stroud based on his his action. So I actually think it was really good radio quite frankly. Do we do I think that it's been blown out of proportion a bit? I think the moment you call CJ Stroud performative in the measure makes it blown out of proportion. I think that other people nationally are blowing Caleb Williams side of this little, you know, re conversation post game. I think they're blowing that way out of proportion. And I think I agree with I agree with the caller. I don't think either quarterback did anything wrong. Quite frankly, either one did anything wrong. Look, you know, what depending on who you know best or who you're citing who your team is and and how you side with or who you like better, you probably have areas you can nitpick. But at the end of the day, the reason why this is his biggest story as it is, too, is because with social media, everybody grabbed it and ran with it immediately. And then it just got legs and it just took off. I mean, look, look, I mean, look what's done to our show. No, I know what I'm saying is, but that's why the scrutiny is at such a high level. It's a good talking point. It's a good talking point because it's like, okay, with CJ, as CJ Stroud earned it, has he earned those stripes, which I think is fair to ask quite frankly, like, I think it is fair to ask because CJ Stroud earned those has earned those stripes. I don't think that he's earned those stripes quite yet. I think that it takes multiple years. He's 22 years old. Like, he's 22 years old. Like, he's not the OG. So I agree with that aspect of it. I think you probably need an MVP. I think you probably need a Super Bowl championship before you carry yourself that way to everybody. Now, I don't think that Stroud would do this to everybody. I think Stroud was doing it to a guy that's a rookie that he thinks can be very good. He was being friendly. Quite frankly, I think he I think he came from the right place. If they're playing Sam Donald, he's not doing it to Sam Donald on Sunday. He's doing it to a guy who's a rookie and he lived it last year. Yeah. And then obviously they're closer in in agents and experience. But I think that from the standpoint of when you look at the big picture, there is something to be said about the fact that maybe CJ got a little extra oomph and confidence and confidence to do and say something like that because of the fact that the podcast and everything and all the extra attention in the offseason kind of took his off the field to a different level to where maybe he empowered himself a little too much. CJ Stroud did talk about this today. He was he's doing me really like moments ago. Stroud was asked this question here as his response. I had some of the best advice given to me last year and you know me and Caleb, I don't I was not trying to like treat him like I was trying to like little bro him or nothing. He knows that too. I have a ton of respect and I told him I respect for him. But I had so much so many guys coming to me after games last year and that meant the world meant the world to me that that that those guys even thought about getting me advice. So I just try to get back to what the game is giving to me. So I wish him the best man. I want him to do amazing in this league. I think he will. I think that he'll get his groove. And once you get your rhythm, I didn't give my rhythm until like week three, week four. So I can see him his game picking up from from here. And so and you know, I don't think he was trying to like, you know, be any towards where he just said that they lost. I totally understand. So I have a ton of respect for that guy, man. I want him to do extremely well just like any other guy and say we play on that day, you know what I mean? After the game, we can be cool, you know what I mean? But I'm definitely, you know, rooting for him and want to see him do extremely well. Yeah, I expected that from him. And then that proves that it's not before that. Right. That proves that he was coming from a good place. Could it be taken the wrong way by another quarterback who's the same age as him? Yeah. I don't think Caleb Williams took it the wrong way though. I think he was just frustrated with the game, thought the conversation was over. And then because all these eyes are on him, it's the national spot like, Oh, no, Caleb Williams, the guy that paints his nails and writes bad things on them. What is he doing? Stroud thinks he's holier than now. I think both quarterbacks were fine. Yeah, no, and I expected that from CJ. And I think that, you know, good on him to even be able to go out and talk about it and just address it and just say, Hey, look, but again, the Chicago media doesn't hear him talk all the time and see what he does like we do enough to realize he's a good dude. I mean, he's as a person, he didn't mean any harm or try to pump up his stock. No, exactly. Exactly. I do think it came from a good place. All right. Will a bit. Could it be the next great big food debate, the biggest Joel Rance of all time, Jeremy trolling someone to the point of crying, or just some actual bees making some money? Well, let's find out. It's time for the Wheel of Bits. Oh my goodness, would you look at this? What an enormous spin. Let's play food debates. 9-0-1-2 says he was hyped after a football game. You say things and talk a different way during and after a hard competition. I don't walk around in a normal setting, head-butting and yelling at my friends like it would after fighting for two hours. If I was CJ when I pulled him back, I'd have hit him with a stone cold stunner. What a great text. That was well played. I enjoyed that. All right, food debates. Food debates. Today's National Cheeseburger Day. Paul went like that. Paul didn't like cheese on his burgers. You didn't pull a little. It's weird. Yeah, I can't. It's Syracuse. I can't like cheeseburgers. There's just so much better than regular burgers. I agree. So much better. Look, it's a Wisconsin guy. I'm not going to turn down cheese. I mean, I'm just telling you, the cheese makes almost everything better. Like, is there a better topping that exists than cheese on a burger? There's one that is in play. What? Bacon. No, I'm saying cheat. I'm sorry. Any topping on anything. I'm saying the bacon goes with just about anything. People would bacon on green beans. You can have a cheeseburger be happy. I don't know if you'd even be happy with a bacon burger. Would you rather have a bacon burger or a cheeseburger? Would I write like a bacon burger without cheese or a cheeseburger? I'd rather have a cheeseburger. Same. I think there are people that would go the other possibly go the other way, but I don't know. I love cheese, so I'm going to go with cheese first. But what other great toppings exist to ever like than cheese on a burger? Like that's one of the great toppings in American food history. Condiments. But when you use as much as I do, Brian, it can be a topping. Jeremy has seen me use it as a topping on a baked potato. I saw I put it on a baked potato with a very offended. Sprinkles on vanilla ice cream. I'm not a big fan. Nah, I'm not a big fan. What other great toppings? I think cheese on a burger is the one. I think it's number one pepperoni on a pizza. Pepperoni on a pizza. Pepperoni on a pizza is very good. What about whipped cream on a pie? I'd rather have cheese on a burger. Ice cream on a pie. Ice cream is something I thought. Like vanilla ice cream on a hot apple pie? Oh, it's beautiful. Is that better than the cheese on a burger? It's close. It's the closest thing so far. I think cheese on a burger might be the greatest topping in human history. Cheese is puree. Especially on a burger. Crushed pepper on a red on a pizza. Best topping. Tomatoes are better on a burger, sis on a glazed brandon. Serp on pancakes. Ooh, Serp on pancakes. Is that really a topping though? Absolutely, that's a topping. But it's like required. At the topping. You can't really eat pancakes without syrup though. You put fruit on it. Exactly. I don't think you can't burger without cheese. You put like the fruit with the kind of fruit juice on it. Chili on a hot dog. It's a good topping. But it's not better than cheese on a burger. Serp on pancakes or waffles is pretty close. Because you can't eat it without it. No, you can't. Good. Even like the butter on it. No, no, I'm not going with a candle. Some people will do butter too. Peanut butter is great. Some people do peanut butter on pancakes or waffles. But it's not syrup. You don't like peanut butter? No, I'm fine with it. I just don't want it on my pancakes. Peanut butter on a banana. That's not better than cheese on a burger. No, it's not even close. It's not better than cheese on a burger. It tastes like peanut butter on a banana, but yeah, it's not the same ballpark. Whizz on a cheesesteak? No, I prefer the provolone. Brutal to me. Gravy on mashed potatoes. That's a good topping. More gravy on biscuits. Good topping. But mashed potatoes are still good without the gravy. But and also mashed potatoes are great if you get melted cheese on. White cheddar on popcorn. That could do regular popcorn. I'm fine with that. Strawberry and a cheesecake. It's a pretty good topping. It's a pretty good topping. Yeah. Pretty good topping. Chocolate, I'm stronger. Not as good as cheese on a on a on a on a on a burger though. Avocado and tacos. That's a good topping. Yeah. Strawberry and a cheesecake. Okay, I'm not going to say that one eight five three two. It's inappropriate. Stop sitting here inappropriate. Attack seven one three seven eight zero three seven seven six. All right. So in an honor of national cheeseburger day, we got to give our favorite cheeseburgers from a variety of different categories. Right, Brian? Yeah. So let's give one each three categories. Favorite fast food burger. Favorite fast casual. Someplace, you know, you're not you're not dressed enough for, but you're sitting down most of the time. But not fast food and then sort of like a nice sit down restaurant that you've been to that is a great burger. It doesn't have to be something high dollar, but just someplace, you know, you're you're going to walk in. You're not going to wear, you know, t-shirt and shorts into. Okay. All right. And there's there's some blurred lines at a certain point. I love the charbroiled flavor on a burger. And, you know, some some do the flat, whatever you call that, just the flat, yeah. And I like that charbroiled flavor to it. So fast food for me and this is what up for your guys's call. I'd go back's prime. I don't think that's fast. That's prime for fast food. As much as that's fast casual. That's fast casual. That's fast casual. Okay. So good. So then if it's fast casual, then no fast food. I'm sorry. So then if I have to go just fast food, then I would go, I'd probably go water burger. Over Burger King? Because they do your, they do your flavor. They do charbroiled too. But I like the water burger double a whole. The way you're describing that was. I'm not even saying Burger King. Yeah, but I like, I like the beef of the water burger better than the, than the kind of, it's almost processed in Burger King. On the building at Burger King. It's processed at Burger King and water burger seems to be more like fresh beef. My favorite fast food burgers, Culver's. And to me, it's not even close. Give me Culver's. In and out burgers, probably second. Yeah, I thought you were going to say that. Oh, actually, P. Terry's is fantastic. P. Terry's would be number two. It's only like Austin, San Antonio though. It's not, it's not super big. Yeah. Okay. They're the big barbecue people in Austin. P. Terry's actually, P. Terry's is my second favorite fast food burger. Culver's, P. Terry's, in and out, and then probably water burger. They have more Culver's. They have Culver's here now? Yeah, they have one. They have two, they have one in one and an humble. There's one in Conro. Yeah. All right. What's your favorite fast food burger? Uh, I'm, I'm sticking with water burgers. The sweet, sweet and spicy bacon burger from Waterburger. One, they're all time favorites. The green hatch, Jilly Burger, Waterburger is bomb. But you just don't like spice. It's not even spicy though. It's just fantastic flavor. I just don't like the green hatch. It's constant spice for us, it's different. Oh, the two cheeses and the, the onions and the, the, the water burger double. That's the green hatches fan. It's so good. I love hatch season. Green headed to. All right. So what's your favorite, your favorite fast casuals? Bex Prime, you said. See, I had that for my sit down. But that's like, but Brian's description of sit down was, you had kind of have to be dressed a little better than a teacher. No, no, no, no, just, just a place that. See, I never put on, I never go business casual and get a hamburger. You know what I mean? I don't either. Well, but the one that I put down because of it being a legit sit down. Like fast casual to me is like, uh, it's like, uh, five guys. Okay. So my, you're not driving through, you're going in, but it's very, very casual. My, my fast casuals were Jack's Burgers. Fantastic. Jack's are good. Really good. Pete's in Porter. Have you had Pete's in Porter? It's good. Pete's in Porter's fantastic. And then Champ Burger. I've heard that's good. I haven't tried. Champ Burger's outstanding. So those, I mean, it kind of cheated because I picked three. But Jack's Pete's Champ Burger, like all on different areas. So that was my best. Mine were Langford's and Bex Prime. Yeah, mine, uh, actually, I'll say one of mine, the other two are going to factor in if we can get to it. Uh, do you think we're having, now I guess we don't have time for keep trade time. So I'll just say all three. It's like we're going too slow, guys. Yeah, yeah. We're not driving land. We'll get to it. All right. Uh, my, uh, my favorite fast casual be clutch city grill downstairs. That place is good. That place is so good. Which was a who found that one. That was, that would be a brand new, uh, you put me in. That was a random pick. Yeah, it was a brand and pick. That was right. Random pick. It was fantastic. Very, very good. All right. So what is your casual, what was the other one? The, uh, sit down, sit down. Sit down. It was Poppa's Burgers. Poppa's Burgers because the quality of the beach. That's a good, really good. It's a really big burger too. It's on Westheimer, right? Yeah. There's several I think. Oh, are there? Oh, I, I only know the one right here in the gallery. I'm sure there's multi locations. Uh, that's the one that I've been to. Um, and hop daddy. Okay, not bad. I've heard that was good, yeah. Not bad. Uh, J.B.R.M. for me. They're brisket burger. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh. They're brisket burger. So good. I had like first, because you have to sit down at like this. You do. You have to go there and you sit down. They wait, they do wait on you. Yeah, it's like a little mini grocery store too. Good, solid, very good. I've only been there once, but really good. I would go back. I just haven't been able to. Is that the creepy guy that does the commercials for all the different meat that they can process for you on TV too? I don't know. It's like the old, no, no, no. Some Stanton meat. It might be. It might be. Yeah. It might be. It's not Mike Stanton, but it might be that guy. No, it's Alan Stanton. He does this. It's like in that old little house, two storey house. He wears like the, the cowhide apron. Really? And he does a commercial. I don't know anything about that. You all eat your beef sausage meat. It might be. I have no clue. I have no clue. All right, what you got? My favorite sit down restaurant. This was something I discovered because they brought it. Cheeseburgers. Yeah, yeah, cheeseburgers. But I was filling in on the morning show once. And so they obviously have food brought in damn here every day. They get all the food. And Granato had a cheeseburger brought in from Tony's restaurant made by Chef Kate. She seems to be pretty famous, Chef. They're cheeseburger at Tony's. It's called Tony's Burger at Tony's restaurant. Made by Chef Kate was absolutely fantastic. Tony's in order is a burger. I think it's a burger place. No, I think it's a burger place. It's not a burger place. It's a burger in the menu, but it's not a burgers place. What's the place called? Tony. Tony's. Very high dollar. It's very high dollar. Oh, there is an uncle, Tony's burger. But it's not on Tony's. It's a different person. Yeah, it's Tony's. Oh, it's Tony's. This is the one where like they advertise on the Boston gloss. This is the, yeah, this is the Granato and Gal money. I thought it was like an Italian. It is. It's more known for Italian and seafood. But they also have a burger in the menu, which they brought up here one day and it was amazing. Really? Yeah. This isn't the Italian deli, is it? No, it's not a deli. I had Tony's Italian deli in Tomball. Tony's right there. Is it the one deli in the world? I don't know. Like I said, when I had it, they brought it here. So I don't know where it's located. Interesting. Interesting. I'll have to try that or fill in in the morning one day when they're bringing their food. All right. Or the killer G is because they get the food. What are your favorite burgers around town in honor of National Cheeseburger Day? And what do you partake? What do you partake in National Cheeseburger Day? Let's get to blessing or stressing. What are you blessing about? What are you stressing about? 713-780-3776. It is the bees on ESPN 97-5 and ESPN 97-2-5. [MUSIC PLAYING] You'll listen to ESPN 97-5. [MUSIC PLAYING] Now back to the killer bees. On ESPN 97-5 and 92-5. Live from the Peritex Community Bank Studios, here's Joel Blank and Jeremy Branham. Blessing or stressing. Carrots in here to talk about what we're blessing or stressing about today. Where are you blessing? Let's start with the blessing. I'm in a good mood today. I don't know why. I'm usually not. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of good things we're blessing about. First off, I'll read one from Twitter from Rodney at RM Linden 83. He says, "Blessing or stressing on Tank Dell, Dalton Shultz, production so far." To me, this could go a lot of ways, but I'm going to take the positive approach and say, I'm still blessing. To me, honestly, it's scheme-based. I know it's kind of coach talk, but if you listen to Bobby Slovick talk in his press conferences, it's a boring answer, but when people constantly ask him about who's going to get the ball here and there, it's really dependent on the scheme and the defense that we're playing that week. So I know as a fan, you want certain guys to get certain stats, but you kind of have to remember, it's not always up to that. I know Tank, he still has had a lot of targets. He had the one big drop. I noticed in the game that he was pointing at his visor so he couldn't see it. So I'm still blessing, but I would like to see them put up some numbers. I personally am blessed because of the fact that you don't want to be peeking in week two and you've got so many different options. And based on like, from week to week, we knew and we kind of had a feeling, but then we actually heard that after Mixin's week one, the Bears were hyper focused on stopping the run and stopping Joe Mixin. And you have so many weapons that you have alternatives to kind of make up for the fact that they were concentrating on the run. Same with the pass game. I think Schultz is still going to get plenty of opportunities and he's an above average tight end and he's going to be fine. And I had some of my friends ask him, are you worried about Tank? And are you worried about the drops? And are you worried? No, I'm not because I think that Tank has already shown who he is who he's capable of being and he'll do that again. It's just he'll get more opportunities when they start really trying to take away Nico and focus more on Diggs. - I mean, I can't be blessed about it though. You know what I mean? Like if I had to pick one or the two, I would have to be stressing. Like there's no way you're blessing so far about the performances of Tank and Schultz. Now, have they been lost in the game plan a bit? Do I think it's this big issue? - No, I mean, Tank had a good amount of exposure in week one against the Colts in the game where they were leading the whole time and they started running the ball a ton. The second half of the Chicago game was weird. Like they just couldn't get the offense going. But you couldn't say blessing. You couldn't say blessing. - There might be a point where there might be a point where the defense really tries to take away Nico and or Diggs and then they go to those guys and then you start, are we going to be blessing and stressing about Nico now? - I mean, that's more a blessing that he's on the team than blessing about like their production so far though. - Yeah, I think Jeremy's focusing on production, which that's fair. I mean, obviously their production has been minimal, but I guess I'm more thinking of like projecting forward. I am not concerned. I know a lot of people are thinking the house is on fire. These guys are going to be upset, you know? So I see both sides, but overall I'm blessing. And like you mentioned Joel, I mean, it's going to change week to week. Like you mentioned how they shut down the run one week. Now Nico's emerged as one of the top receivers in the league. So they're going to be focused on taking him out of the game. So now it'll open up for Tank and Schultz and everything else. - I'm hedging. - I'm hedging. - Stress and blessing, ah, I'm hedging. - Hedging, I like that. - Yeah, that's the thing. - All right, what are we stressing on? - So this one, you know, it's a blessing or stressing, but this is from the group chat on X. So shout out to group chat. Corey Barrett brought this one up. And are we blessing or stressing on the notion that Nico Collins is emerging as a top five receiver in the NFL? I am big blessing. I could talk about this topic for hours. And I've kind of been on this ever since the spring. I was a huge proponent of us signing him, extending him, and getting that, I think, one of the best contracts of the offseason at 24 million APY per year for a top five receiver. I think he's a unicorn. He really is. I know C.J. Strauss said he's this generation's Andre Johnson from just a size standpoint, height, weight, and speed, six, four, 220, four, four. The way he runs routes, he runs routes like a slot receiver. Elite hands, elite footwork, his sideline catches. So I am big blessing on that notion right now. Yeah, I'm blessing because the money you got him for and the fact that kind of to what you were talking about, but the big body able to high point, go into double coverage, the indie game goes, you know, he high points the deep ball better than most anybody that I've seen in the fact that, and he's got the size, he's got the strength, he's got the speed. It's like the perfect storm. And I did not see this coming. Top five is a very, very high list for me, and it's a very, very high bar. But you can't argue with the fact that with the numbers he's putting up and the way he's performing in two weeks in the season after getting the contract and seeing some of the contracts these guys are signing for, that you gotta be blessing the fact that you're not paying on what they're making, and he looks like he's just as good. Yeah, I was a little late to the party. Like I was more kind, I loved what I saw, but it was like, is this for real? Like is this the, you know, the improvement that we saw from Nico last year, like unbelievable. And then you get to the midway point, like this is the truth, this is for real. You give them the big money, and it wasn't like top tier money. So yeah, you have to be stressing, or I'm sorry, blessing Nico Collins. I don't know how I can live in another, you know, world where you're not blessing on Nico Collins. And we should mention, you know, we're probably even having this combo because he had a slow start to his career for various reasons. He was drafted as a project out of Michigan. He didn't play his senior year 'cause of COVID, you know, his first two years, he had, you know, quarterbacks that weren't near the level. Five million dollar Davis Mills. Yeah, Davis Mills and Kyle Allen, and then not to mention his offensive coordinators, no offense, but Pep Pendleton and Tim Kelly, they're not in the same level as Slowick. So I think that is kind of why people are late to the party, which is understandable, but. All right, no stress in her blessing, Garrett. So this is for me and myself. The Aziz Al Shire, Sideline Scuffle, I'm sure you all covered this this week, but I know a lot of people were stressing about it, but again, I guess I'm a positive guy. I'm blessing. To me, this is, this is kind of like an underlying issue, in my opinion, in the NFL today, a lot of quarterbacks, they've kind of taken advantage of this late hit rule to where, when they go to the sideline, they know that they can get a penalty, so they slow down and almost stop at the sideline. To me, it's complete BS. So I mean, my opinion is if you don't wanna get hit, then run out of bounds. So, and then the way he was, you know, once he made the hit, he was just surrounded by the entire sidelines and on the ground and in his interviews, he said they were saying crazy stuff too. So, you know, obviously he shouldn't throw a punch, but I'm still blessing the fact that he stood up for himself. I mean, we've had this conversation. And to me, I'm stressing the fact you threw a punch. I just, he's too important to this defense and I'd hate to think of, especially with Harris out, I would hate to think of the scenario where with a good portion of the football game left to be played that you lose your quarterback of the defense that is all over the football field. So, from the standpoint of, I loved Amiko's, you know, response to it. I love the fact that the team had his back. I love the fact that he is a fighter that's gonna send a message. I just think you gotta be smarter about throwing punches and head button guys outside. - Oh, I'm blessing. I love physical football. I love physicality in sports. Tough as team wins. So, I want the, and Amiko Ryan's been echoing these the last couple of days. They've been listening to the show for the last two years. I like the team that punches first. I usually mean that not from the literal sense, but if it means the literal sense, I'll take the literal sense. I was getting blasted by our listeners last year for saying take out Lamar Jackson, get him out of the game, force him to the locker room. It's the only way the Texans are gonna win is if Lamar Jackson gets hurt, so hurt him. And people got really, really mad at me. I am pro-violence. I am pro-knocking somebody's head off when it comes to football. So give me a ZZ's outshire. Give me a ZZ's outshire wiping out Caleb Williams. He was an enemy territory. They were saying bad things about his mother. That's why he's throwing the right hand to Roshan Johnson. He's flopping around. Oh no, I'm gonna beat him up. No, you weren't. You're flopping around complaining to the refs. Give me all of his ZZ's outshire hitting Caleb Williams. Throw in punches. You don't like it, then punch him first. Tough as team wins football games. I'm blessing for this one. - I love that. - I'm blessing for this one. And with the other thing with a quarterback thing too, win is a play over. - Exactly. - As soon as he steps out of bounds, right? So if you hit the quarterback, this is more general than that specific play. 'Cause there's a lot of times where a quarterback's going out of bounds, but he's not out of bounds yet. His foot might even be hovering above the white chalk. Until he is out of bounds, he is live. - But the problem. - I hate the way that's officiated. I was gonna say, that's the problem. You're right by the letter of the law that that's legit, but you know that the fact that they're so hyper-protected by the quarterback that referees use their own discretion to say if he was going out and was close to the white line, they're gonna flag that and it's not deserved a lot of times. - No, and I-- - Cubes are manipulating it too. - Sure. - Like Caleb Williams on several of those slows down, even stops mating the penalty. Like that's not the point of the penalty for you to take advantage of. - No, that's my big concern. - And that's why if you're a linebacker, you let him know that-- - Yeah. - Hey, don't do it again. - Yeah, exactly. - See, I'm even okay, if it cost me 15 yards. - Yeah. - Early in the game, not exactly. - Exactly. I love physical football. - So as these outside years, a tone setter, the Ravens game last year in the playoffs, I walked away watching Rokon Smith in the middle at defense, being an enforcer, and an animator. I realized we were lacking that, and guess what, we have it now and as these outside years, so I'm 100%-- - That's what ticked me off last year. - Well, this is the last time you joined, by the way. - We were talking last year in the playoffs. - Oh, proud of me. She wants the guy to get hurt, and then Rokon Smith's trying to hurt CJ Stroud. It's like, what are you guys talking about? Like, yes, it is a violent sport. And you know who's been saying this all week? Dameko Ryan. - He loves it. - Dameko Ryan, I love, yeah, we're gonna hit you. We're gonna hit you hard. This is what Texas football is all about. And now everybody's saying, oh, it's great. I told you this guy, I told you this a year ago, guys. Told you this a year ago. I want you working on this week, Eric. - So, is there another bus in stress, and you're just saying-- - That was something last night. - That was terrible. But yeah, so I have my live stream tonight at 9pm, just following my socials at Texans commenter on X and Instagram, it's at Houston Stressons. But I'll be live recapping the game and previewing the Minnesota game. So that's pretty much what I got going. - Best content that you can find on social media. He's killing it, Texans commenter Garrett. Appreciate it, time to talk next Wednesday. - Appreciate it, man, we've lost him. - Texas commenter, get all that good stuff. Best Texans follow. All right, Bobby Sloake is already taking some heat. But what if I told you it's more Dameko Ryan's? It's the B's on ESPN 97-5 and ESPN 97-2-5. - Guys, if you're thinking about doing something to upgrade your house, I wanna tell you about all state siding and windows. 'Cause all state siding and windows is the best in the business. And they have exactly what their name says. They got front doors too. But you're looking to protect your biggest investment. You're looking at siding, you're looking at windows. I just did the windows at my house and I can tell you in a variety of ways how beneficial they have been. Because first and foremost, they upgrade the curb appeal of my house. It's absolutely fantastic. When you drive up now, the windows give it a classy modern look and people notice. And they also make comments to tell you while your house looks great. But the bigger thing to me is the energy savings 'cause you're gonna save 30 to 40% on your energy bills because it's gonna keep the good air, whether it be warm or cold, depending on the season, in and it's gonna keep the bad stuff out. You're not gonna have leaks and you're not gonna have air up and around your windows. And these windows, they're double pains, they're strong. They're protective through hurricane season and so much more. They are going to be everything that you need in a window. And they always got sales going on too. They got lots of deals. They got 30% off right now on all windows. They got $2,500 off on any siding job. And the process starts as easy as you getting in contact with them. You can see all the products and services that they offer at allstatesidingandwindows.com. But the bigger and better thing is, if you contact them, they'll come to you and tell you exactly how they can help, what they can do and what products they can use. And it's all free. You don't pay a single thing. They come to you, they tell you what they offer, how they would do the job. And it's up to you to say if you want them to do it or not, but it's free of charge. It's 832-204-1936, you call 'em and they'll tell you exactly how they can help. That's 832-204-1936 or go to the website, allstatesidingandwindows.com. The SPN, 97.5. (upbeat rock music) Live in the Peritex Community Bank Studios, it's the Killer Beans. Now back to Joel and Jeremy. - It's extra saying there's a difference between herd and injured, you're supposed to try to hurt people in football. Tomato to oil, tomato to oil. All right, so Bobby Slough is getting some, he's getting a little bit of heat. I've seen it kind of pick up a little bit. I saw Sarge tweeting about it yesterday, like I haven't seen it published anywhere, but then Mita Kimes was talking about it too, where she's like, I love Bobby Slough, I love this Texans offense, but they need to start being better on first down. It was Mita Kimes on Slough's offense. - I'm a fan of Bobby Slough, I think he's a good play caller. I'm gonna need him to stop lighting first down on fire, which is, I don't wanna, I try to be dogmatic about early down runs, sometimes it makes sense, pardon me, and there's sequencing aspect to it. But going into this game, we talked about this last week, the bear defense is excellent against the run. So it's not surprising, they average 2.6 yards per carry on first down, and they ran it over and over and over. You're putting your quarterback behind way too much for my taste, which by the way, this was an issue last year as well, and it continues to be an issue. - Yeah, never catch yourself being dogmatic about something. Now, I don't really have a ton of issue with Mita's point here. Now, the Texans in the first two weeks have led for a majority of both games. So I think that comes into play a little bit. I think that I look more at last year's tendency as a good example to this, 'cause I don't mind running on first down, even if you're only gaining 2 yards, whenever you have a lead. Like that's pretty important, keep that clock going. You have a good defense, so like you're kind of playing to the defense side of the ball a little bit. So I would point to last year more than I would point to this year, but do you think that the Texans have a problem with lighting first down on fire? - I don't, I don't. And I think that just like anything else, I think that he's still getting, he's just kind of everything, everybody's getting comfortable, everybody's finding their groove. You had mixing in the first week out the second week, but yet you were still, you were trying to see if you could still establish the run. And again, when you're in a position of strength, then you're gonna probably be more likely to run the football, but I don't worry about them. I don't, and again, because you got a guy like CJ, look at how many times 3rd and 14, 3rd and whatever, and he found ways to continue to move the chains, get the first downs, find Nico on the Scramble drills. Yeah, you'd like to clean that up so that you're not relying in on that, or it's as risky as it's been, but I don't think he's lighting first down on fire. - I would also point that this might not be a slow-ick thing. I would like to throw in the discussion that this could be a Demico Ryan's thing. What do we know as defensive-minded head coaches? What do they usually err on, the side of aggression or the side of caution offensively? - Caution offensively. - What about when they have a lead, especially? Do they err on the side of aggression or cautiousness? - Caution. - What about if you're in fill-goal range, err on the side of aggression or to be more cautious? I think that I would like to throw Demico Ryan's name into the hat when we're talking about the conservative nature of the Houston Texans offense, and I think Demico Ryan's flat-out admits it too. He was on with Rockin' Roll and John Harris on Coffee with the Coaches this week on their YouTube channel, and listen to him talk about, especially when they get into fill-goal range, about what he's telling the offensive staff on the headsets. - Right, as a head coach, like, hey, we're in range, let's go offense, hey, we're in range, don't screw this up, don't go backwards, we're in range, and when I say we're in range, I'm on his side, like we got points. So don't go back, and for me to be able to say that to our coach in the offense feels that and we can go out and operate that way, and that's very confident going into a game where you know your kicker is on. - I think when you're calling the Texans offense conservative, you're giving all of the blame to Bobby Sloeck. When we forget that your head coach is conservative. Like, let's call it what it is. He's a conservative head coach. Will he go for it fourth and one at the 50? Yes, everybody's doing that now. And I'm not saying that it's a knock. Sometimes we use the word conservative in football, we use it as like, it's a bad message, that it's something that we're talking down to a head coach about or we're using it as a word to talk down about him. Being conservative is fine. You can win a lot of games being conservative. But when you talk about the Texans offense being conservative, maybe it should be the head coach you're talking about and not necessarily the... - Think about the conversations that Nick Siriani's had to have with the media this week after the whole Kellen Moore and the play calling and then I'm the head coach. I think sometimes we forget about the fact that at the end of the day, no matter who your coordinators are, your head coach still has a good amount of input whenever he wants and whatever's going on. And I would say to the quote that you used, you go a step further, what did he talk about in the off season? What did he talk about in terms of what did this team want to do? They wanted to run the football. They wanted to run the football more. They wanted to be a running football team. He said that on multiple occasions. Now, we see the weapons that they have in the passing game and we know that they're going to pass the football, but from his perspective, he flat out said it. He wants to be a running team. Yeah, he's talking about not going backwards. Like, how can you go backwards? More times than not getting sacked. Yes, you can have runs for loss, but usually run even the, like the bad runger, it's no gain, negative one. Usually get back to the line of scrimmage. You're usually not having a negative seven yard play. Like a sack would cost you. You're also not stopping the clock. If you have a, if you have a two possession lead with three minutes left in the third quarter, why wouldn't you want to keep that clock flowing? So when Mina Kimes is talking about the offense and saying that Bobby Sloake is lighting first down on fire when they're running the football, I think that we need to point the finger a little bit more at Demico when it comes to that. And I'm not saying that is a negative. No, but, and I also think that I'm not, I'm not concerned because I believe that they're going to continue to try and explore things and based on what they're seeing and who they're playing, things are going to change. But I believe that, you know, they will mix it up. I don't think that they're, you know, basically letting their pants on fire on first downs. I don't think I'll see that. I don't think we'll see that all season long. And I do think again, when you have your full compliment, we were missing, you know, the line, it was an issue, mix-ins an issue. I think when you have your full compliment, it'll probably be different as well. - Yeah, I'm curious when we get more like data on the Texans rushing attack because the Texans in week one, why wouldn't you run the football? Like they were averaging over five yards per carry. Against the Bears, they didn't have this success running the football like they did against the Colts, but they were winning the football game and the defense was dominating. So like, again, why wouldn't you run the football? So I think that Mina's being a little bit reactionary based on the Bears game and then using it to kind of defend some narratives that she had in year one, like last year under Bobby Sloeck. Because whenever you're averaging over five yards per carry, that's not lighting first down on fire. - It's the old Rudy Tom John of its philosophy. I'm gonna keep going until it until it either doesn't work or you find a way to stop it. And in the indie game, I'm just gonna keep pounding the rock and until you stop at Green Bay looked at it and goes, we can do that too. Because there's obviously a weakness there. Why wouldn't you exploit it until they figure out a way to do it differently? - And in the Chicago game, you felt confident that your defense was not gonna lose the game. Like, I think Demico, again, a defensive minded coach is going to look at things that are gonna help out his defense. Okay, my defense isn't gonna allow a touchdown. Let's put my defense in the best possible chance to close this game out. How do you do that? Less time when the other team touches the ball. Secondly, give your defense more time to sit on the bench and collect the breath. - And take the points wherever they are. Just keep adding the field goals because you're giving your defense what they need. A lead so they can pin their ears back knowing that Chicago has to move the football and you can pin your ears back and go get 'em. And the other point is, if they're stopping the run unlike Indianapolis, if the Bears defense was good enough to stop the run and you didn't have mixin' and you didn't have juice, you also realized I'm not gonna keep pounding it into them. If it's not working, I'm gonna switch up as well. - Yeah, the mixin' thing, there's some thought. Dan Graziano on ESPN today, there's a thought that he might miss a game or two. Damian Pierce was not spotted to practice today. So that's the news on that front. A 0979 coach Ryan is aggressive on O, but he's a smart coach. Y'all don't, what y'all talking about, clown emoji and then grimace emoji. Domingo Ryan's flat out admitted he was conservative in the clip that we played. Pessimistic chat, any coach playing for field goals instead of touchdowns is a big problem. He's from the Shanahan tree and Shanahan never takes his foot off the gas. The Bears game was a one score game way too long based on how much better the Texans were playing. That would be the criticism I have at the Texans offense so far this year. I think they've been overall good. I think they've had productive drives. The biggest frustration that I have is that they've had a lot of drives in with three versus six. - Right, but I also think that part of the reason, another part of the reason why Domingo feels comfortable in taking the threes for now is he knows he has an explosive offense that's gonna put sevens on the board and he knows that the plays were there. We talked about the ball tank dropped. We talked about the fumble inside the five. - That might be a big picture of you, but it's not a little picture of you. - No, but at the same time, I believe that he has total confidence that, yeah, there's gonna be times that I'm just gonna take the points and take the three instead of going for the seven, but I also know that this offense is gonna settle into where there's gonna be a lot of opportunities to get the seven. - 9198, a great example of the Texans should do is New Orleans, defensive coach, allowing a dynamic offensive coordinator to do his job. I don't know if I wanna use New Orleans as a model, but I get it, I get the point, 4321, whether you run or pass the ball on first down, if you don't get three yards or more, you have to pass the ball the next two down, it's convinced me otherwise. Okay, you have 10 players that are playing five yards off the line and you have one defensive lineman. - Yeah, or they just load up on defensive backs and spread it out regardless. I mean, look, there were plenty of fronts that the Texans were showing them pre-snap where they had three guys spread out on the defensive line and the Bears thought, oh, money ball, we can just sit there and run it.
