Many clients come to us and tell us that they “want to create this or that” But the harsh reality is there is no way you can tell me what you truly want unless and until you know who you truly are.
When you don’t know who you are there is no way you can really know what you want.
And if you don’t know who you are and what you want then how can you even begin to take a stand for what you believe in?
The hard reality is that you can’t.
The journey to full self-awareness is actually the most important journey, process and work you can undertake...
(upbeat music) - Hello, thanks for joining us. We are doing a series on taking a stand for what you believe in. - Yes. - And this is our next installment. So hopefully you've seen the first few installments if you haven't go back and catch up. And what we wanna talk about today is the question. Do you know what you really want? Now, it seems like a simple question, and yet we work with people one-on-one quite frequently, and what's the big challenge when you ask your clients about what they want? They come to you for a reason. - Sure. - And when they tell you what they wanna create or what they wanna do, what's the big challenge that you find? - The big challenge I find is that they really don't know what they want. - And that's mostly has to do with the fact that they really don't know who they are. - Yeah, you answered my second question. And so it's true. You know, I wanna create this or that, but the harsh reality is there's no way you can tell me or even tell yourself what you truly want and lessen until you know who you are. - Sure. - And unfortunately, most people just don't. When you don't know who you are, you can't really know what you want, and hopefully that makes sense to you. - Sure. - Now, if you don't know who you are and what you want, then how can you even begin to take a stand for what you believe in, which is the focus of this series? - Yeah. - You know, what are you gonna stand for? The hard reality is you can't take a stand because you don't know who you are, and you don't know really what you want. The reality as well is that if you dive deep into what you think you want, what are you gonna find? There's about nine times out of 10. - That's not really what you want. It's kind of, it's been what you've been told that you should want. - Exactly. Give us an example. - For example, I wanna be, what's a big thing now? What are they called? - Social media influencer, there you go. - Did I read your mind? - Yes, she did. - We do that. - I wanna be big on social media. For what purpose? - I wanna be a best-selling author. - Why? - Why do you wanna do that? I wanna make a lot of money. - Sure. - I want to drive a Bentley and have an airplane. The reality is, unless you're highly unusual, you don't need a Bentley. And no one really needs a Bentley or an airplane. I mean, I guess the airplane could be argued if you're on the road nonstop. But nonetheless, you don't need it. You don't need it. It's a convenience. And yet we're conditioned to believe that that's a symbol of success. - True. - So there's a journey here that we're talking about and it's to full self-awareness. And it's actually the most important journey, the most important process and the most important work you can ever involve yourself in. And it is work. It's definitely not for the faint of heart. - No. - The world needs more leaders who are willing to take a stand for what they believe in in today's world. Many people just aren't taking a stand because they don't know what they want and they don't know what they believe in and they don't know who they are. - Sure. - But here's the fact. If you don't, if you won't take a stand for what you believe in, then you'll fall for anything. And this is observable all around us in the world today. This is not news, it's not brand new. It's very ancient. In fact, all the way back to the Oracle of Delphi and ancient Greece, when you entered in to see the Oracle, there was a gateway. And over the gateway, it said, do you remember what it said? - No thyself. - No thyself. And do you remember this? - Then you shall possess the keys. - Listen to this. - To the universe and the secret of the gods. - Think about how powerful that is. Know yourself and you shall possess the keys to the universe and the secrets of the gods. Pretty powerful implications. And you might say, well, James in verse of it, how is that? Well, that's an example of-- - Because the kingdom of heaven is within, that's how. - That's right. And the Christ told us that. So, you know, why we can't be looking outward for the kingdom of heaven. It's also a great example of a hermetic law called the Law of Correspondence. Most commonly known, the Law of Correspondences-- - As above, so below. - As above, so below. As within, so without. Now, the work that we're advocating here is work to self-awareness. It's both deep and wide. - Very deep. - And so, and very wide. - And very wide. - Yeah, it takes a lot of work. And that's why most people-- - It's a narrow path. - That's why most people, they're quoting Christ again. That's why most people don't ever begin the journey. - Yeah, it's hard to work. - But here are a few practical practices we'd like to give you that come from a variety of traditions, like the Toltec tradition, hermetics, alchemy, Christianity, and many, many others, just to get you started on this journey. There's several questions you can ask yourself, which will help you understand who you are and what you want. The first question is, ask yourself continuously, why am I doing what I'm doing? Well, that's just what I do. No, dig deeper. - Sure. - Dig deeper, what's another great question? - Why am I attracted to the things that I'm attracted to? - Why do I want a bent land and airplane? - Yeah. - You know, well, I just want it. Do you really? Is this my behavior that I'm exhibiting right now or did I adopt it from an outside source? Parents, clergy, media, teachers, friends-- - Social media. - Social media. - Social media. - Social media. - Social media. - Social media. (laughing) Did we get that point across? Here's a good one, too. Why does this particular issue trigger me? - That's a big one. - Yeah, it is a big one. I got triggered a little bit today and I had to dial it back. You know, why did it trigger me? Well, I got lost driving because my GPS was not functioning properly. And the reality is, I'm responsible. - Oh. - I'm responsible, it's not my GPS's fault. I shouldn't be so weak and dependent upon-- - Yes. - A GPS. - Let that be a lesson. - Yes. - Let's stop, what is it called, putting all of our trust in these technologies and electronics to get us to places and do things. - That's right. And it's really easy for you to say because you're so great in directions. (laughing) - The important thing-- - Yes, back to the podcast. - We practice these things, too, continuously. - Yes. - So I had to stop, take a breath in the car and say, why is this issue triggering me? Well, I'm wasting time. Well, why are you wasting time? Because I don't know how to find my way around without a GPS. Well, why do you know how to find your way around? Because I've become dependent on an outside source or electronics. - Yes, become lazy. - I've become very mentally lazy. I don't even pay attention. - I'm checking this opportunity to have discussion. - You know, I'm sure this never happens to you. You know, you're doing a session with me right now in front of everybody. But it's good. Here's the important thing, you know, Bursman and I experience the same things you do. - Yes. - And we're committed. - And if someone tells you that they don't stop listening to them-- - Yeah, don't listen to them because they're either trying to sell you something or they're just flat out lying. - Yes. - The important thing, or both, the important thing is that you ask yourself these questions continuously for the rest of your life. - That is true. - And that you answer honestly, you know, it could be really easy for me to stop at the point of blaming the GPS. But that's not the bottom line. So there's no value and there's no benefit in lying to yourself. You have to be honest. Finally, and here's a very tall tech teaching, never take anything at face value. - Yes, maybe you missing your haircut was done on purpose. - Yeah, thanks for bringing their attention to my lack of a haircut. Always, never take anything at face value. You know, not even what we tell you, do your own research, dig and think for yourself, become an independent thinker. - Yes. - Be yourself, be independent, even when it goes against a collective narrative. - Especially when it goes against a collective narrative. - Great point. Once you start to drill down on these questions, we think you may be surprised that you really haven't had a unique or original thought her most of your life. Now that's a hard pill to swallow. But the reality is most people don't think. They think they think. What they're doing is just running a program over and over that's been handed to them. - True. - When you're able to break the chains of these programs and this conditioning that you've been conditioned into by all the things we've talked about, then you literally set yourself free. You literally develop sovereignty. And then and only then can you take a stand for your own truth. - The truth. - The truth, the absolute truth versus something. - It's not for your cat. - Say that again. - So your truth is not that you're a cat. I'm sorry. - That's a whole topic and I know it's self, yeah. - We're talking about universal truth. - That's right. That's right. God created two sections, yeah, anyway. Your own truth versus something you've been conditioned to believe. And when you do this, you literally set yourself free. You literally become a sovereign being. If you can't think for yourself, then you're still a slave. If you can't feel what you choose to feel then you're still a slave of external circumstances. Break the chains. Thank you so much for a couple of moments of your day and for listening to our marriage counseling. - Our marriage counseling. - Thank you for being here. God bless you. - God bless you. - Bye. - Bye. (upbeat music) (upbeat music) (upbeat music)
