All right, let's hit the field. Oh, wow, that's wonderful. That's all. Today is Sunday, September 22nd. And the Yankees were playing their final game at Oakland Coliseum. Luis Hill looking to build on his Rookie of the Year campaign with win number 15. My recap, your reaction's coming up next. This is Pinstripe Territsory. Welcome. ♪♪♪ All right. Welcome back, everybody. Welcome back, guys. As the intro was playing, my dog walked in here and farted, and then walked right out. And it stinks. She crapped us to me. I can't believe she crapped us to me. Anyway, Yankees win game number 92 on the season. That's as many as they won in '96 when they won the World Series. I'll never forget that. And with the Orioles' loss, the magic number is now down to one. It's going to happen. It could happen as soon as Tuesday night in the Bronx. I like that the Yankees were going for the kill today with the offense. The lineup was terrific. That was the best game three lineup that they could have put out there today. And it might be the lineup that they put out there for the playoffs, with the possible exception of if they choose to go with Verdugo over Dominguez, but Dominguez did hit a two-run home run today. Before we get to the recap, a couple of roster moves in case you missed them. Jake Cousins got placed on the I.L. with a pectoral strain from the other night. And the Yankees recalled Clayton Beter. Now, if he had joined mid-season as a Yankees fan, you missed Clayton Beter, he was the guy that the Yankees got for Joey Gallo when they traded him to the Dodgers a few years back. It was a starting pitcher. He's had some shoulder issues. He actually made the opening day roster, got the out in his Major League debut, closed out the game, and then went down with a shoulder injury. But he's recently come back and he's been lights out in AAA. So there's a non-zero chance that he could impact the postseason roster. So we'll see how that shakes out. I had heard rumors that he could miss the rest of the season, so it's good to see him back sooner rather than later. Guardians also lost today, which means the Yankees have a two-and-a-half game lead for home field advantage in the American League. Magic number four, number one seed in the American League is three. So good chance that the Yankees are going to have home field throughout the playoffs. Final game for the Yankees at Oakland Coliseum. Turned into a close encounter. We had a two-run home run from the Martian, home run number 55 from Judge, home run number 15 from Glabertores, who continues to swing the bat great. He was two for five. He's got an OPS over 700 now. And we had Anthony Rizzo putting on a show defensively. You know, it would not shock me if the Yankees said to Rizzo when he came back. Look, we don't care if you hit 200 the rest of the way, but nothing. And I mean nothing gets by you on defense. Understand? Because he has turned it around. He's turned the dial up defensively since coming back from the I.L. And that's a damn good road trip. Five-and-one, three straight wins, and you know what that means. We got a winning streak. Yeah. Wow, winning. A reminder to like and subscribe if you're new. I can't imagine many of you are new at this point, but we are here after every single game. So go ahead and subscribe to the channel. Let's talk a little bit about Luis Heale, who kind of labored today. It was not his best day, but he has come a long way this season from trying to make the team out of spring training to now possibly being a rookie of the year. Candidate, we'll talk about that in a second. Not his best outing. Command was an issue. Two runs in the first inning that were a direct result of walks. He had three walks again today in five and a third innings. That's too many. Fastball V-Lo was good. Did not have the good change up today. The slider was pretty good. He had 10 swings and misses with the slider. 92 pitches, 55 strikeouts. Max V-Lo was 97.8. 14 swings and misses total. But he picks up win number 15 in his rookie campaign. Hell of a job. 28 starts now. 3.27 ERA. 146 innings, fish. 166 strikeouts. 76 walks and a very respectable 1.19 whip. He just doesn't give up a ton of hits, but he walks a lot of guys. John Sterling used to say you can give up hits or you can walk guys, but you can't do both. He needs to cut back on the walks this winter, but I think he's going to be the ace of the staff in the future at some point. So let's talk a little bit about the rookie of the year chase. He's got a chance. I don't get a vote. Not yet. I'm a member of the baseball writers associate or Internet Baseball Writers Association of America. Supposedly, we're going to get votes one day. But I don't get an official vote. If I did, my vote at this point would remain unchanged. And that would be Luis Hill over Austin Wells. I know a lot of you are in favor of Wells winning the award. And if the Yankees, well, if Wells wins, the Yankees will get a PPI pick, an extra draft pick. So that's huge. And I think Austin Wells is going to be an all star next year. That's what I think of him. He's been great defensively. Had another big double today. But Luis Hill is currently the betting favorite to win. And I agree he's got a higher war. And he's, I mean, just picked up the team so many times this year. He carried the pitching staff for the first two months. So, you know, let me know in the comments where you're at in terms of the rookie of the year. I did a poll on X and I'm finally getting around and not calling it Twitter anymore. But did a poll on X and right now Austin Wells winning by almost a two to one ratio. So maybe I'm wrong. No, it's the children who are wrong. No, maybe I'm wrong. But right now my vote would go for Luis Hill. Got a couple of voicemails. We've been off schedule with the voicemail show because of the West Coast games. But we're breaking the regular morning voicemail show back out tomorrow. So call in 718-899-1068 with your hot takes, your questions, your comments, your worries, your hopes, your dreams, your fears. But we got a couple today that I want to talk about. Seems looking good now with Bertie. Dominguez. I'm curious to see how this playoff lineup shakes out. I'm hoping Dominguez doesn't have any shaky plays in the outfield out there for us when it matters the most. But the kid can slug, man. And it's been impressive. It's been fun to watch. I know the numbers as far as average really aren't jumping off the table. Yeah, but you can just tell. He's got what it takes and we saw what he could do last year as well. So let's see what we can get here. Curious to see if he's saying he's going to be in the lineup or do you think they're going to still go defense and possibly Verdu go over him when it counts down the stretch here? I think they're going to keep running Dominguez out there. And today very impressive. He smoked the home run, but he also had some more good at bats long at bats. Right handed. He hit the ball hard a couple of times had nothing to show for it. But I think he's going to continue to get the the starts out there. I think Verdu go and Grisham at this point are battling it out for the backup out fielder job in the postseason. And it wouldn't shock me if Verdu go gets left off the roster entirely because Grisham's a better out there. The one thing that worries me is what you said, the defense. You know, I hope they play him as much as possible over the next week so that at least he can get comfortable catching fly balls at Yankee Stadium. Hey, just wondering. Do you think the Yankees will find jobs chosen to an extension? That's that's a good question. You know, it's funny. The Yankees don't sign a lot of players to extensions before they hit free agency. They did it with Aaron Hicks. They did it with Luis Severino and neither of those worked out. And so that might have Brian Cashman a little bit cautious. But I don't think it'd be a bad idea to sign jazz chism to an extension. You know, the way contracts have been going up. You know, he's young. He's athletic. He's going to continue to get better for at least the next couple of years, I think. And then hopefully you can maintain whatever level he's at. You know, I don't want to give him a 10 year deal. But if he would sign a five year deal, that could be an interesting, interesting idea. Interesting call. We have not thought about extending jazz yet, but could be something they look at this winter. And a quick word from our sponsor, Navaj. This is the dudes over at foul territory. I know that Kratzy loves this contraption. I've got one myself. So it seems like every one of these recaps lately has begun with the same thing. And that is Glabertura is getting on base to begin the game, which he did again today. Unfortunately, once again, he was stranded. But, you know, he's done a fantastic job since moving to the lead-offs. But he's really saved his season. And I've seen more people actually calling for the Yankees to re-sign him. I don't think it's going to happen. I think he's too expensive. I think all that money is going to go towards trying to sign Juan Soto. I still don't even think that they're going to sign Juan Soto either. But I still think he's ticketed for the Mets. But, you know, it'd be interesting to see where Glabertura ends up. If he goes to a place with, you know, maybe a little bit less pressure, I think you could have a monster season. But A's got two runs in the top of the first inning, two walks by Luis Hill. They both came into score on a double. And that's been the issue with Hill, the walk. Something he absolutely needs to take steps to improve on this winter. After the first inning, though, he settled down for a while. Top two, Yankees got both runs right back. Courtesy of the Martian. (Casting) Two runs shot for my favorite Martian. J.D. phone home, second home run of the season, second home run of the road trip. And first pitch fastball, he was in attack mode. Hasn't played enough to accumulate any kind of stat cast data that means very much. But one thing that's very interesting is his bat speed. He has elite bat speed right now and elite walk percentage so far. He hasn't hit enough to really, you know, see where he's going to be at exit velocity-wise. But I assume he's going to be pretty high up on that as well. But his bat speed is like 75.2 miles an hour. That's up there. That is up there. Top three, Yankees went back out on top, courtesy of the captain. (Casting) You cannot throw it there against Aaron Jug. You just can't do it. You just can't leave it right down the middle at 93 because that's what's going to happen. It's going dead center for a dinger. Home run number 55 for Aaron Jug. I don't know if Otani is going to catch him at this point, especially since Jug is beginning a heat backup. Back-to-back days with the home run now. Think about this though. Otani the other night facing off against a position player. And he was dead set to hit that ball to the moon. He was trying to go deep. I've seen Jug hit off of position players a couple of times. And he always kind of sandbags it. Like, he takes a half swing. He doesn't try. If Jug wanted to, he could take all those guys deep. But, you know, I just think it's interesting that Otani was not screwing around. I guess those position players. Anyway, pretty cool to hear the MVP chance on the road to. I think it's a foregone conclusion right now that Jug's going to win MVP. Bobby Whit has had a nice year. And we know Juan Soto's had a nice year, but neither one of them can touch what Aaron Jug has done. Top 5, Glaberturez getting in on the action. Glaberturez has got a yard as game. It's Glabertay! Back in Glabertay. 15th home run of the season. Got the OPS. Over 700 now. It is up to 702. He's hitting 254. You know, he's got a chance to hit 260 if he has a hot homestand. That doesn't sound all that impressive until you remember that. He was in the 220s and 230s for most of the season. So getting hot at the right time and a perfect fit for the lead off spot right now. Yankees tacked on another run with a long sacrifice fly by Jazz Chisholm. Just missed a bases clearing extra base. It probably would have been a triple the way he runs. But a really nice job in center field by Bliday. A's got a couple of runs back in the sixth. They finally knocked Luis Hill out of the game. And then, you know, he had a couple of runners left on. Hamilton let them in with a base hit, but the runs got charged to heel. So final line, five and a third. Five hits, four runs, three walks, five strikeouts. ERA sits at 3.27. And then Yankees answered right back. Booming double to right by Giancarlo Stanton. Second day in a row that he's hit the ball really well. You know, getting hot at the right time. Right on schedule going into the playoffs. Boom came out to get Clay Holmes in the eighth. You know, Clay Holmes should never pitch with a lead. He immediately put the first two runners on. He got an out, but, you know, my heart was pounding. My, you know, I was sweating my bald head off. And then, boom came out to get him. And I did a little standing ovation in my living room, like finally. How much does this guy need to suck before you stop putting him into big spots? How many fucking leads does this guy need to blow? Before you realize, he's not good. But they went to Luke Weaver. And Weaver got the job done. Two strikeouts to get out of the jam. He stayed in there and got the save. One and two-thirds innings. And the Yankees sweep the Oakland A's. [applause] [applause] Yes! [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] [applause] Noelle says, "What's your favorite memory of the Yankees at Oakland?" So this is going to be a, and thank you for the Super Chat, Noelle. I appreciate that. So this is going to be one that fans of a certain age will remember. Back in 1996, David Cohn left a game. I believe it was in Chicago. And afterwards, his hand was numb, his fingers were numb. He ended up having an aneurysm and needed surgery. It was a life-threatening aneurysm. No one suspected that he would return that season. But he came back late in the season and made his first start in Oakland. And he threw seven no-hit innings. And then they went to Rivera. Rivera gave up the no-hitter. But that is the game I always think of when I think of Oakland. Also, the flip play was kind of amazing. I know that Jeter says that they practice that in spring training. There's a great quote from, I think it was Jason Giambi who came. He was with the A's and he came to the Yankees the next year and he said, "I want to see where we practice the flip play because I don't believe you." But those are my favorite memories. Again, for the Super Chat. Belt today was kind of a tough decision. I wanted to go with the Martian with the big two-run home run. I was hoping he would pull out another hit. You know, we had a great game from Aaron Judge. Home run number 55. Double. Couple of walks. Torres had a home run. Stanton had a big double. Wells with the double. Dreamweaver with the big. The big save. Five outs. Really? I went with Aaron Judge. Other favorite Oakland memories. People saying the Jeter flip. Coney. James says best play he's ever seen. I mean, it has to be. I can't think of a more out of place play in a bigger spot than that one. It was a huge play. But, you know, she asked my favorite memory and I just think of David Cohen, right? It's where my mind always goes. I was 13 years old watching on my couch. I remember I had my rainbow sherbet and I had a cat named Milo who was a good buddy of mine. And it was just a good memory, man. Good memory. All right, so we've got a couple more Super Chats here. This one from CM says does Clay Holmes make the postseason roster? I think he will. I don't think he should. But I can't see the Yankees leaving him off. I really can't. I mean, Boone loves this guy. They love his quote unquote stuff. To me, what good is your stuff if it gets hit as hard as it does, you know? Mellow Yellow was at Jeter's flip game. That's great. I'm trying to think of the biggest game that I've ever been at. I went to game one of the 95 division series, Mattingly's first playoff game. So when they always talk about, you know, the loudest they've ever heard the stadium was when Mattingly was getting his ovation before game one. I was part of that. So I was there for that. And I remember when we were leaving the stadium, I'm sitting down looking at my program or fiddling with whatever we bought, you know, at the stadium, whatever, maybe the scorecard. I don't know. And I walked right into somebody and I, oh, sorry, man. And then like my dad and my brother were walking behind me and they both stopped for a second, like in awe. And they were like, you just walked right into Joe DiMaggio. I had no idea. My brush with greatness, literally. I'll take a few more comments here. Dr. Anarchy was a game two of the '09 World Series, the AJ Burnett game. AJ Burnett is probably remembered for one game more than any Yankee in recent memory. I would say Aaron Boone, but he's been the manager, but AJ Burnett, he was okay that year. You know, he was, yeah, he was mid. But then in the playoffs, he had some very big games and game two of the World Series. I don't know if the Yankees go on to win the World Series if he doesn't even the series there after they got beaten in game one by Cliff Lee. But anyway, let's see here. E. Berenson says game two of the 81 World Series, I guess we're saying the best games that we're at. Yeah. Go ahead and let me know in the chat, best games that you were at. Sayhaj, Doshi says he went to 2017, ALCS game seven, horrible ass game. Lou ROM says our hearts can't take homes in the postseason, not without some kind of like electric paddles. I need some electric paddles just in case to shock myself back to life. All right, let's wrap it up. Long road trip, six games coming to an end. The final road trip of the season, the regular season. And we've got now six games remaining at home before the Yankees will head to the postseason. Sounds like right now they're going to have a five day layoff. During that layoff, I'm going to have a couple of podcasts with like writers and things like that. We're going to preview the, you know, division series, obviously, and that's something you can expect more of this winter. Now that we're full podcast mode and we're linked in with the foul territory network, we have access to, you know, hopefully some more players and writers and famous names. Excuse me. I'd like to reveal some of them, but they're not locked in yet, but there's, there's talks. So hopefully we'll have some of these folks on soon. And yeah, reminder to like the video, subscribe, become a member, I'm going to go finish watching Reservoir Dogs. I started watching it this morning and I didn't, I didn't wrap it up. So that's, that's my plan for the evening. And I will see you tomorrow on the voicemail show reminder, call in 718-899-1068. I'll see you next time. If you enjoyed this video, please drop a like and give us a subscribe. It helps other Yankees fans find the channel. We're also on all your favorite podcast platforms and social media.
