I've been debating because it's like the top is going in that direction and I cut it short and the only thing that's kept me from doing like full bald shave is it seems like it would be a lot of work because it still gets taken back and on the sides and I would just be shaving that thing all the time, I think, if I tried to do that. I feel like I don't even like shaving my face, so I can't imagine having to like shave my head too. I just hate it. I just hate it. So I would just do the stubble. I just keep it stubble. Just keep it stubble as much as possible. Yeah, I think so. Because I've been just about a year and a half ago. I just decided why am I spending the 20 plus dollars every four to five weeks? It's like, so I just got a good set of clippers and I just started doing it. No, I think you nailed it with that. I think that you absolutely do the right thing on that front. Yeah, I'm glad you agree. I'll be there someday. It is mailbag day. So if you want more than bald head, shaved head, talk, submit your questions. Notre Dame football and otherwise, we might just start calling this the salty bag. You know, he did. I know, seriously. He did mail vomit and we were sitting here looking at the questions rolling in from salty before we started the show. And the question that we had is, do you have all these questions typed out in advance and you just start copying phase two, right? Like they come in so fast and furious in there. I have to. I didn't even have time to type them out. I know. We appreciate it, but hey, man, it has to be. There's no way you're typing that fast. Do you remember the flowbie? Baldwin's earring shot writes a memo to buy Shauna flowbie for Christmas. I do remember the flowbie. I remember thinking about a flowbie at one point. That was even when I had more hair, you know, and back in those days. With the vacuum cleaner, when I was in high school, there was a kid who had a flowbie and they used to cut their hair with it. And we, it was like a friend of ours. So it's not like you were making fun, but we were making fun. Like it was definitely like, he was proud of it. Like they were proud flowbie users. Interesting. But yeah, we would hammer that kid and it was pretty funny. I don't know. I mean, you know, like, what's his name? Mark Davis's son, the Raiders owner. Is that Mark? I think it's Mark. I think it's Mark. Yeah, like he looks like he cuts that. He looks like he's got a rug. Like that looks like a rug, man. I know. It's just like, it's just like sits there on the top of his head. Yeah, I don't know. You want to get to some of these many questions? I mean, Salty has hit us with it. I mean, there's a lot of good stuff in here. I'm not like, I will say Salty does a great job of also breaking the ice for people because then other people start putting questions, which is helpful, obviously, because we have some others from other people now. But yeah, man, we should be an honor like he throws it back. Well, you know, I give you all these questions. And some, you know, most of them go unread. Like I feel like he's, I feel like he's Joe, you know, because that's how I look at it. It's like Salty. Salty and Salty. They're ice breakers. Yeah, because you know, if we don't read them, save them for next time. Well, Thor find his hammer this weekend. That's, see, that might be the best one that he asked. I like it, like for content purposes and because of the analogy, I think it's, yeah, I think he nailed it, man. I think they nailed it. Look, as far as Thor is concerned, first of all, this is why you don't give people nicknames before you actually see them perform. That's right. Okay, this is, this is on par with giving yourself a nickname. It's just not good. It's not good and you'll never live up to it and he hasn't. So we need to refrain from giving the nicknames, first of all. That's number one. Number two, you guys have seen him kick just fine. And so I think that if they just let him punt like a normal punter, instead of trying to roll him out and try to, instead of trying to overthink it, I think that he will be just fine. But you got to let him do it, which they haven't really done yet. All these answers this week, whether it was Marcus Freeman on Monday or Marty Biagie, the special teams coordinator yesterday, talking about like all these different, you know, it's, oh, we want him to do this punt. Now we want to, there's like five or six different options that they have, you know, how about just pick the one where he uses his big leg and he kicks it up in the air and he gets good at hanging time and everybody else runs downfield and covers it. How about that one? I mean, it's felt like the whole thing was blown out of proportion to begin with and how good he was. So I was never truly on board, but he has to be better than what he's been doing. He has to be better than 37 yards of punt. I mean, he has to be. I can rattle off a bunch of high school kids that can do that. Brian wants to know if we know he can punt like a normal punter. I mean, you know, again, like the most, the biggest sample we got was day one of training camp and he was sure kicking the ball. You know, again, like high in the air with this unique way, it comes down and all that stuff. And that's what we were talking about. We haven't seen any of that since the season started. And again, it just feels like they're asking him to, they're just over complicating it, I think. You know, I would think if you are anywhere really from your 40, you know, in and he's out there punting, just let him let it rip, even if it's a touch back, just let it rip and, and, and, you know, see what happens. If I let it rip, I mean, get that sucker up in the air because that was supposed to be his biggest asset and the big one of the biggest things that Notre Dame needed to improve upon from last year was, was getting down there in coverage and not allowing as many yards on the return. And that's kind of been an issue so far because most of the punts have been so low and relatively in effect. I mean, he's only averaging around 39 yards a kick right now. He's ugly and it's just ugly. Like there's line drives, it's just, it's just not good. It's not good. I mean you said this one to me before the show and I basically said I don't care as long as they're up my four touchdowns at halftime. To be honest with you I don't care I really don't care. I guess I care in the in the in the realm of I'm sick and tired of hearing people talk about it. So it would be nice if he put up a couple hundred yards in the first half. But the thing is it's not even about the total yards Sean it's about you're going to push the ball down the field is he going to have some completions can can he be accurate you know it's all these things that people just keep talking about. I mean he had 120 or so yards in the first half last week and it wasn't enough right 120 yards and 112 112 but either way I mean that's over 100 yards if he stays in a whole game he's on pace for around 220 yards which would be the most that he's had so far this season which would be fine right and he ran for any you know he probably ended up running for at least 170 which is over 400 yards of total offense which should be fine with if you're an owner name fan you know what I mean I just I don't know I guess a couple hundred would be great just to make people be quiet but then but the people who don't like him I don't think there's anything that he can do to make them like him I just don't at this point I really don't know you're right because like even if he has a 200 or 300 yard game somehow based on what we've seen so far I say somehow even though again if you go back just two years ago he was doing it when he was at it took but even if you saw that people oh well you know they find something not at once and pick it apart like I just want to I just want to see progress that's all that matters right now is some progress they finally it looks like if assuming they stick with the offense that they ran last week against Purdue they've got something that works they know they can lean into the running backs they also know that Riley Leonard can take off and run when he wants to he needs to be better in the pocket a little bit more presence and I know people tell you know there's there's and look we go back and we watch there have been plenty of times and I was thinking about this this morning like watching as much football as we do what's what's one thing everybody says every to well this guy was wide open on this play he should have hit this guy you know like even if he makes the past like watching an NFL game like watch any run-of-the-mill NFL game and every NFL quarterback I guarantee you that same thing is gonna happen to them on a given play there's always gonna be someone who is a little bit more wide open as they didn't see you know there's there's obviously so much more that goes into that than just the guy is open it's like what is the quarterback seeing and and I think Mike Denmark talked about it a little bit yesterday he's got to kind of I think they'd like to be able to maybe put some blinders on him so he's not you know like quite feeling the peripheral yeah he's rushing quite so much he needs to just relax and yeah Andre says he needs completions he was a 70% completion quarterback last week he doesn't need completions he had plenty of those like I don't at the end of the day yes we need to see progress that's fine but I just want him to be him and I want them to win games that's it incremental progress is fine for me really numbers on any of it any of that kind of stuff it's not the number that matters it's not it doesn't pass the eye test and again it's not magically going to go from what we've seen so far to all the sudden Riley Leonard is hitting these guys right and that open all over the field that's not going to happen overnight I just want to see incremental right is he looking more comfortable is he starting to hit some of those passes and even if that's that's all I want to see right now even if he does that Sean for a half right and then they pull him at halftime again because they're winning by so much even if he does exactly what you just said just sitting in the pocket picking guys apart you want to know the first thing you'll hear from the people that don't believe in Riley Leonard ah I was in Miami Ohio who cares it's terrible terrible team to play against anybody could do that I could do that I could sit in the pocket and hit those guys you know you're just you're never going to hear the end of it from some people now some people would love to see that right but there's going to be other people there there's no way to please them unless he goes out and throws for 500 yards and a half yeah that's absolutely right and even then there's going to be you know look look at what happened last week they scored 66 points he's still complaining that it's not good enough tell me about it unbelievable the goal is just to score touchdowns if you're on offense and to not give up touchdowns if you're on defense Andre if Riley Leonard could give us for the rest of the year 2,250 passing yards 800 rushing yards 20 touchdowns passing nine rushing touchdowns would you take it I mean yeah I'd take it because it probably means they're winning all of their games if that is probably the case right because they have what nine games now we talked I'm assuming we're talking the regular season on this right so you know that means he's throwing for about 250 yards a game that means he's running for about 80 yards a game and you know obviously racking up a bunch of touchdowns so yeah I'd say I'd be okay with that yeah I mean he's already got four rushing touchdowns so if you get you know if it's nine more the rest of the way you know like and it you know as far as the passing you know I think any like any of us would take any passing touchdown right now from Riley Leonard let alone 20 you know but yeah I mean if he if he ends up with those numbers because like he's only on pace for around 1700 a little more than 1,700 passing yards right now for the entire season so if he ends up with and this is the rest of the way I'm assuming we're starting here and going forward I mean that would be he's going to be a thousand yard rusher and pass for somewhere around what 2,500 2,600 yards if he hits that and so that I think he'd take that any day of the week is that look does anybody if Notre Dame does if they play the way they did last week right and I'm not saying put up 66 points or anything like that but if they play the way they played last week you know Riley Leonard's only going to play for a half right and there's other games where he's probably going to get pulled at some point because Riley Leonard's health is the number one priority throughout the rest of the season because no matter what anybody says he still gives you the best opportunity to win games and so you want to keep it healthy he's not going to be playing full games I don't think Sean and that's going to hurt his stat line right so we're going to have to take what he does you know kind of in a shell and you know extrapolate out from that but yeah right if he did that I think we'd be okay yeah I mean I think there's going to be at least two more games that are that are similar from those I'm not going to say it's going to be 42 to nothing at half time but there's a couple games on the on the schedule are where I wouldn't be surprised if it's exactly pretty lopsided at halftime and Steve Angeli and or Kenny Menchie or whoever ends up getting a bunch of snaps in the second half right Riley Leonard's not out there will Sullivan Absher challenge Anthony Knapp for the left tackle starting position at any point this season no probably not because they love Anthony Knapp what he does in the run game and Sullivan Absher will never be that good in the run game and so I think they'll like right now they value the run over the past right I think we can all agree on that and by they I mean they're named coaching staff and so I think that they will do things to mitigate his lack of talent in the past game at the moment and it will it will get increasingly better I would imagine but they can like last week they moved the pocket they did some different things to kind of mitigate the the lack of past game proficiency there but he's really good in the run game and that's why he won the job in the first place yeah my answer I mean I lean towards your direction we just we didn't get to see like anything from Absher when we saw him in camp that said this guy is just close to popping now you know the other side of that is how much of Anthony Knapp did we see before that move fair made and you know look look what happened there there's some obvious issues for for Knapp with his past blocking but like you said he is a plus run blocker he does well I mean he's obviously a little bit undersized and they're making do over there you would hope that from a developmental standpoint Absher at least closes that gap at some point this season but I can't see him seriously challenging for that job like in in season considering he has zero experience himself and Anthony Knapp every time he steps on the field he's just getting that much more experience every time he steps out there did you have one that you wanted to go with next or you starting them up I haven't seen any recently but yeah I just threw some up there okay yeah we're all good interesting one here from Mark does it sit right with you that many of the players refer to coach Marcus Freeman simply as Freeman and not coach or coach Freeman during post game interviews this is a new day and age folks I hate to break it to you this is not the days where like when I grew up you know when I would go over to a friend's house it was mr. mrs. boba or mr. mrs. Smith it was you know whatever now everybody calls him by the first names like it's pretty similar in the coaching world too I hate to break it to you I was good as like if you've ever listened to any of the women's basketball interviews like a lot of them called Neil Ivy they don't call her coach or they don't call her coach Ivy or Ivy they call her Neil yeah they're on a first name basis yeah it's just it is what it is you know again it's because those two are cut from the same mold just in terms of that player relationships and the way they communicate with players the way they relate with players I mean that's that's a big part of it because you're talking about Freeman is 38 years old Neil Ivy's just a a little bit older you know what early 40s ish you know right around that she's probably right around your age I mean she graduated in 2001 and that was her fifth year so she's college yeah she's a little bit older than me yeah yeah exactly so I mean that's just that's just the era that we're in now and and the younger the coaches get you know in terms of being you know closer to the age of the players I think we just continue to see even more of that yeah I mean and it's like you're the weird one if you tell your kids friends to call you mr or mrs whatever like you people are people introduce themselves as their first name you know what I mean and it makes it makes it very weird when my friends bring people over that go to the school that I work at because I'm mr de dario at school and then it's like you know what I mean so it's a weird dichotomy and but that unfortunately is the world that we live in nowadays you know what I mean and it's just it's just weird and I don't personally like it I like those terms of respect but that's just not not the way things go anymore we're older school you know that's just the way it is you're older so I think I seem to remember like some some players back when we were together just calling you dadario from all the time all the time that even coach or coach dadario just dadario so I used to tell my kids in class when I was a teacher it's like hey you keep whatever reason apparently dadario is a very difficult name to pronounce for kids there are multiple syllables and vowels in there so I would tell them they can call me mr d your coach or whatever and that would be mine too but yeah you're absolutely right there's plenty of people that I see now and it's just dadario dadario yeah so that is what it is it's better than hey dummy get that at home the wheel well Kenny Menchie's dual threat abilities favor him over cj car in the ideal denbrock offense here's the funny thing Kenny Menchie's a pocket pass or folks he's not a really a dual threat guy he's just as mobile as as cj car is so I think I understand why people think that he's dual threat but that's not really his game he would much rather sit in the pocket and throw the football so I will say that so no I don't think he has that it favors him over cj car look this might be controversial I don't know I try to stay away from it as much as possible but let's not overthink this I will um what will I do Jesse said he would eat his shorts if Paul Skeens didn't have the sub what was it two ERA or three ERA after 20 starts cj car is going to be the starting quarterback next season there you go so that's I'll just I'll just make it as simple okay I thought you were going to differ route okay good I won't make any guarantees yeah but I feel the same way yeah this is yeah this is our opinion I don't want that to come out you know like in case something crazy happens but that's that is my strong and I think you know both of our strong held opinions yeah cj car is going to be the starting quarterback yeah next year after there's a whole there's a whole season this year and a whole spring to get through in a whole training camp of course but I'm I'm pretty confident but that's the way that's the direction that's going to go in just based on everything that we've seen and and hasn't been a ton obviously we don't see a whole lot more than a lot of other people but it's just different I don't know what else to tell everybody it's just different and I love Kenny Menchie I think he's can be a really really good quarterback either I noted aim or elsewhere or whatever he decides to do but cj car is just in a different level but that's that's all I can say he's at a different level so and I know we're building them up only to probably watch him crash and burn because it's still noted aim but he's just at a different level and he sailor like he says they need to get car more experience before he starts next year and it's like you know again like the the sort of old school old you know like that thought in me kind of says that as well but then when you look at and I brought these guys up before whether it was you know Johnny Menzel at Texas A&M or James Winston at Florida State those were redshirt freshmen who didn't see any significant playing time before they became starters in their second year in which basically be same situation cj car is going to be in a red shirt year and then starter in his red shirt freshman year they won Heisman trophies right away those first years and like I was hesitant on I am a leva down there at Tennessee branded the level of competition that he's played so far has not been off the charts but he's torn it up against whoever he's played so far he's got a bigger tested Oklahoma this weekend but I'm just like if if you got it you got it you know Brian's said what like if you can coach you can coach you know that kind of thing and if you got right if you got the chops you got the chops if you got the chops you got the chops we all saw what happened in the spring cj cars got the chops and he's gonna have even more chops after going through this system and you know and being around it for a year and a half by the time next August rolls around when we're you know getting deep into training camp and and season and all that kind of stuff so I'm not not quite as concerned on that if they're doing the right things behind the scenes with his development and he's already got so much both you know physical skills between the ears skills all those different things yeah and I will I will just add one more bit to this I think it will be a true quarterback competition next year and I think the two major contenders are going to be Kenny Menchie and cj car if they're both here on the roster and I just think that cj car is going to win that battle so that's where I'm at on this entire thing and I'm 100% agree with everything you said would you have put car in there to kneel it out or should they have just waited this week and given him more time well right now look they're they're going they're going based on the depth chart right and car is the fourth quarterback on the depth chart and until something changes they're three other guys have to be in the game before cj car is going to get an opportunity so I don't know that I agree with that philosophy but that's what they're doing and so if you have an opportunity to play your fourth quarterback then you play your fourth quarterback I don't think that they're thinking of it as a hey let's wait and play on a different game and bring him in sooner and look if you're thinking like what got him into trouble against northern Illinois you know not necessarily you know the stuff that we've talked about before with ball state a few years ago but it was the wrong mindset so like if you're thinking that about pretty it's like oh let's wait until next week to do this well you've already got the wrong mindset you haven't even ended the perdue game this is the opportunity to get him his first time out there on the field he's got three more times he can do it yeah during the regular season and they've got that exemption still for bowl games and all that you know so like he's got more opportunities and if you take care of business those opportunities will rise as the season goes on and remember we've talked about this when it comes to you know top level talent right and so like a Bryce Young or a KVA or whatever and look they don't even need the red shirt cj car in my opinion because unless he gets injured and then you can use a medical red shirt but unless he gets injured he is not a five-year player he's not going to be at Notre Dame for five years if he is who we think he is play him as much as you can freshman year because I just don't think he's going to be around for five years he's going to get his two years of being a starter at Notre Dame in my opinion and he's going to be so good that he's going to leave and he's going to go to the NFL and then you pass the torch to the next the only question is going to be does he even come back for the fourth year yeah yeah that's what I'm saying he's not a five-year player by any stretch of my opinion right and like I said unless he gets injured but then you can apply for medicals and all that kind of stuff it's just not a five-year player so at the most he's a four-year player burn his red shirt I could care less about that see Joe says cj looks legit whoever loses the battle will probably transfer now again there's gonna there's there's a wrench potentially it's not official yet but there's a good chance that the winter transfer portal window the December window is going to be the only transfer portal window now so there's there's most likely and again it hasn't been approved but there's most likely not going to be a spring transfer portal next year based on you know the way these committees have voted so far to push this along to you know to pass this so there's a very good chance with that in December so there's not going to be one in the spring there's only going to be one in December right if they pass it which I don't I'll have to do some research and find out when that comes up for vote you would think that they would be making that decision sooner than later if the December windows get but it would basically be open from the first week of December through the end of the first week of January and that's it so these guys are going to have to make their minds up before they go through like spring quarterback battles and all that interesting kind of stuff and I would say you know in this particular situation I would I would think the writing is kind of on the wall as to who the competition is going to be you know amongst for the quarterback position I don't know that for sure it's what I've heard so you know who knows who's going to be on the roster man I in this day and age with the transfer portal and NIL and everything else I just I just don't know and if I was it again Vince's opinion if I was Steve and jelly I would leave I would go someplace where I know I'm going to play and because I think I'm really good and so I would transfer to a big 10 school or an ACC school or something along those lines and know that I'm going to start or at least have a legitimate shot at starting position and and be their guy be their dude you know if I'm if I think I'm as good as I am I'm going to go start someplace because I don't feel like I'm getting a fair shot here at Notre Dame so I'm out it's been nice I got my degree I'm out that's what I would do Joe says are they going to have an honest conversation with Angeli I mean it feels like they have honest conversations with all these guys and let's and jelly's not stupid I mean he knows he sees what's going on around him right I think he knows the way this is trending to be quite honest I mean that's I can't read his mind but sure feels like it to me right I agree DJ yeah it's kind of what super chat from Tyler thank you very much which team is worse Florida State or Florida whoo man I mean goodness gracious it's like which one of your kids that you hate you like the best I mean I don't know how to even answer that I feel like I guess I feel like Florida is better because it's at least somewhat competitive like Florida State they're not even competitive right now so I guess Florida is better than Florida State so I guess the question is which team is worse so the answer is Florida State yeah in my opinion I don't know I mean Florida's lost to an in-state rival already Miami and then they got beat at home by Texas A&M's number two quarterback you know isn't downpour I mean it was a terrible weather day but still they just got beat up yeah it's got beat up like it wasn't even I wouldn't even put that on the quarterback because it just like when I would watch it and I didn't watch the entire game but like I would I would flip it on and go back and forth and stuff it just felt like every time I watched A&M on offense they were just pounding the rock man and just like just beating up on Florida just over and over and just just into submission and you know they were just taking their will you know neither one of them is good but I'd say Florida State is worse right now and that's like when you think about the talent in that state for those two programs to be what they are right now that's rough it's just nuts you already got urban Meyer rumors floating around out there well urban Meyer flow rumors flow around for every job opening but true yeah just look at last week I mean yeah exactly but you know to this question from from saltius as if Florida loses to Mississippi State would Napier be fired on the field the problem here the difference between A&M and Florida now they're both in the SEC obviously Florida's schedule is murderers row and they're just gonna keep get they're gonna get up off the the the the mat and just get pummeled and then get off the mat and get pummeled and it's just it's rough man it is rough like there there's no break in their schedule it doesn't feel like and yeah I just I mean you know Anthony saying I heard Kiffin to Florida 1560 million per year I mean sure you know I can see it happening I have heard that Florida you know like that they would potentially go after Lane Kiffin and I think for you like if you're Lane Kiffin I know he's kind of flirted over the last couple years that would be hard to to turn something like that down because you should be in a better situation but the other side of this is if this season goes the way Ole Miss wants you know Lane Kiffin's gonna be in the college football playoff in December and maybe in the January yeah that's that's gonna complicate these things as well like because you've got an expanded college football playoff when when you can actually go out and talk to a sitting head coach about the job that maybe you want you know like you want to go from an Ole Miss to a Florida you know wherever it happens to be I think it's just gonna complicate things I I think when it comes down to you know going back to the last question of Florida versus Florida State if they played each other who do you think would win on a neutral field again neither one of them is very good I guess I'd take Florida I mean we're talking about I know I know you know like get your slingshot sound it's gonna be you know I don't I don't know what kind of Florida yeah I would take Florida in a very low scoring you know penalty-ridden type of game yeah I mean neither team has shown much competency at anything so far so beef eater is predicting Kiffin the Florida and BK to Ole Miss I feel like BK starting to wear out is welcome at LSU I will say that but I for one I'm shocked I know like we didn't try to warn people that that was gonna be the case but hey whatever Jeff thoughts on Jaden Greyhouse so far I know the passing game lacks but he hasn't been the alpha dog I thought he'd be also a chance to return to a couple of punts Saturday and Bear caught well I don't know that I'm pretty sure that was probably what they told him to do I mean he was catching punt I mean pretty punted 10 times on Saturday there's yeah there's no point in rubbing it in at that point it's just hey let's just change the possession and move on Bianchi did say last night by the on the punt return subject that if Faison's healthy he's going back to being the punt returner this year yeah Greyhouse is the backup I mean yeah there's no doubt about that he was just in there to secure the catch and get the ball back to the offense so that part I don't necessarily hold against him as far as being the alpha dog on offense he had been a little disappointing to be perfectly honest with you I agree with that I think that Bo Collins has been a really good I think right now I would say Bo Collins is the alpha of that wide receiver room I think that Chris Mitchell and Jaden Greyhouse have been a little bit disappointing but they're also not getting a ton of balls thrown on their way so I just think the passing game in general has been disappointing but I had higher hopes for another two outside of Bo Collins who has stood out so far in the receiving court nobody that's you know that's what it is if Greyhouse makes that catch against Northern Illinois that probably elevates his status for a lot of win the game if he gets a clutch yeah big clutch catch all the you know all that different kind of stuff and you know like the passing game is just sputtering and that's why we need to see improvement we all thought it was going to look different and it's it's definitely not all on the receivers whether it's Greyhouse or anybody else you know Riley Leonard has to yeah a polling part of it is end of the bargain the guy pulling the triggers has got to get those yes bullets out there definitely so part of it and I and I think I just whether it's fair or not Sean when I think of Jaden Greyhouse right now I think of that drop versus NIU and I don't think that's fair but that's what immediately comes to my head you know and so he needs to give me something to block that memory out right now yeah Bill's asking if Jordan Fazon is coming back he should be like on Monday Marcus Freeman said as long as things go well this week he would be he was in uniform last week it just didn't play him so and that's obviously even in a blowout situation they just said hey stand over here keep that rested you'll be hopefully a hundred percent we get to talk to Marcus Freeman at noon tomorrow so I assume that's something that'll come up a little update on him but you know both him and Burnham you know I would look for updates for both of those guys coming out of that noon zoom tomorrow but if everything goes well yeah Jordan Fazon is supposed to be back this week so and again Marty Biagie talked about him last night saying yeah you know he'll be the punt returner once he's once he's healthy again B feeder what does Anthony Rizak do I mean he's a walk on quarter worried about that he's a I don't know if it came down to it he's probably right now okay for he's probably the sixth string quarterback at best right now so the fact that we're even asking for five like who would I think they put in Buckner before they put in Rizak oh really you think so I do yeah interesting I do this is my I mean we're talking about the difference between he's taken snaps Tyler Buckner that we know of you know at least when we were out there in camp there were no there were no snaps for Tyler Buckner he's throwing a lot of passes to those wide receivers though don't well in the in the yeah in the short quarter drills like don't get people don't get I know on that subject Vince I don't know what you know why you thought you needed to go there he the fact that we're discussing the difference between a fifth and six string quarterback yeah it's ridiculous so I don't care thank you be feeder thank you be feeder yes Buckner is a wide receiver yeah he is of that but if you know if the the uber that's carrying all four quarterbacks on their buddy buddy trip to subway it gets into a rack or something I think that they'd go with Buckner before they would go with Rizak that's what all I'm saying interesting that quarterback room next spring you know again with a with a winter transfer portal only you know I don't want to get to head but like interesting to see what that potentially looks like next spring just depending on what happens who knows I love that I love our chat they're fantastic yes interesting one from salty interesting salty if florida state remains pathetic will it still be a night game at Notre Dame and if not would another game be elevated tonight time what are you going to make stand for the night time game or like what do you little hole would be the only one it's already going to be on peacock so you know look the the short answer is no they're not changing the start times of any of the games because that is run by tv not Notre Dame and so that's not changing there I don't know off the top of my head but if you go look at November 9th I guarantee you there's already a football game in the 330 slot for a for NBC and I don't know but they're they don't have that kind of flexibility so it's not going to change florida state screwed everybody by being terrible this year they should have been a lot better than they are and we're just going to get a snooze fest at night I mean that's just all there is to it I mean they're think about if you look at their schedule Sean and I'll give you a second to look it up the schedule for florida state between now and November 9th every single team that they're going to play because Brian and I had this conversation this afternoon every team that they play could beat them they could be over by the time they get to Notre Dame I mean cow upstart Cal is coming up this weekend yeah Cal is Cal is tearing it upright now like there's already talk about is Cal going to win the ACC rattle off Robert rattle off who they've got over the next like six weeks whatever it is so so they've got Cal then they go to SMU then they've got Clemson at Duke I would call that game a toss-up right now at Miami North Carolina I'd call that probably another toss-up right now and then Notre Dame and then they finish with Charleston Southern and Florida look the only game they're guaranteed to win maybe at this point is Charles the Charleston Southern and I don't even know that I'd get that because by the time they get to Notre Dame this roster that Florida state has is going to be a gigantic you might you know they're going to take a smoke bomb and just explode it in the locker room like I don't even know who's going to be playing at that point because that roster that he's going to lose that locker room and that roster is going to start dropping like flies it's going to be ugly so on the TV subject D-Troll Hunter says there was a cool breakdown on Joel Klatt show by a he corrected it later by a Fox executive not NBC so like meaning what what are they like how they select the games I think and I might have listened to that it was at the one that was back in the summer I might have listened to that kind of how they went through that process and stuff like that and they do it's like all these networks that you know have overlapping connections and all this stuff and you know like to what you're talking about on that you know like NBC what you have to remember is NBC is not just just broadcasting Notre Dame football anymore they're part of the Big Ten deal and because you know they've got to have a Notre Dame game in prime time and there there's going to be two the army game is going to be in prime time the shamrock series game but the Florida state game as well and it's you know it's like there's just no Louisville is the only other game that's more desirable and you know to put into prime time at this point but if you do that in your NBC then you've got a push and I don't know what next week's Big Ten schedule looks like but then you've got a push a Big Ten game that was supposed to be in prime time you got to push that out of prime time you know the only real question is do you do it like like ESPN does it for example with the with the 11-day window where you know you wait and then 11 days in advance you you announce the kickoff time so you so like you're still giving like a week and a half notice to everybody the game is going to be at at seven thirty or eight o'clock instead of three thirty or noon or whatever like that's that's your your only real option like if NBC would want to do something like that but then you'd also have to get Notre Dame to agree to something you know because that's again part of that part of all those contracts and how that intertwines in terms of how they're picking the game time because they've got the Big Ten right yeah okay so here are your Big Ten options on November 9th you've got Purdue Ohio State Maryland Oregon Washington Penn State Michigan IU and Minnesota Rutgers those ear options and they're all TBD as far as time is concerned it's not a lot more desirable there in terms of sticking in the prime time window you're probably better off just sticking with Notre Dame and Florida State because at least it has cache from a name standpoint based on history exactly there's like none of those games really stick out to me so one of those games is going to be the three thirty game on NBC I mean right now there's three ranked teams but they don't play each other so or four excuse me four ranked teams and none of them play each other so yeah they're not going to move that game Dennis thank you for that super sticker my friend appreciate it didn't stun him Scott can you do the entire Notre Dame fan base of service and explain why the Notre Dame offense needs to improve dramatically but doesn't need to improve immediately we can beat everyone up to USC with 14 I see what he's saying I mean we were Jesse and I were kind of talking about this yesterday everyone sort of does act like going back to what I was we were talking about with the passing game the passing game is not going to go from what it is to like 300 yards a game just not just spraying it all over the field right overnight the improvements that you're going to see might be very negligible over the course of the next month month and a half but what you hope is it does continue to improve over the next month month and a half and you can get to November as hopefully you're you're back in college football playoff contention again and you're ramping up building up to the USC game at the end of the season look at but I agree like you can beat everybody on the stage with the exact offense that you saw last year correct Scott you're 100 correct you are 100 correct it's just people have their sights set higher than just winning the games on their schedule they want to win games in the postseason and I don't disagree with them I think this team is good enough to do that if they can get a better offense right I mean that that's that's what everybody is waiting to see and I don't think you're gonna yeah I don't want to repeat everything you just said because I completely agree with you okay on everything that you just said we're on the same page I mean you nailed it right I mean it would be great if we saw bigger passing numbers every week and the whole thing but they don't have to they could run that exact same offense they're gonna be really hard to stop it's just you want to see them be able to stretch the field a little bit more I totally understand that but like guys we just saw a national champion last year exactly on a very run heavy offense the next thing a really good defense yep and they won the national championship you know made plays when they had to obviously with the quarterback but he wasn't the reason they won most of those games so yeah I agree thank you said that thanks again for the super chat Tyler he's got another super chat coming out I got I was trying to write down a note and then kind of got caught in between who are you rooting for USC or Michigan you have to pick one it's no brainer it's a USC all day long twice on sunday there's no chance I'm rooting for Michigan ever so look I have see there's the difference for me Sean I respect USC I don't respect Michigan so I think they're all they're all rivals uh you know I don't like them but I respect them so I will root for USC I will be a giant USC fan when they play Michigan also as a Notre Dame fan I want USC to to keep winning obviously because I want them to be the best team that Notre Dame plays at the end of the season that's what you want like if you're an Notre Dame fan you want every Notre Dame team on the schedule to win every game except for the one that Notre Dame wins because that just makes Notre Dame's strength of schedule argument look that much better and that obviously includes northern Illinois like you want northern Illinois to be in that top 12 conversation come the end of October in early November when they start putting out those playoff rankings you know that's that's just the way it is you want you want every Notre Dame opponent to be as good as possible because like especially from Notre Dame's perspective now like specific to this USC or Michigan you want that win at the end of the season to mean as much as possible oh yeah obviously like their place that's at least a nine win USC team it's just that much better for Notre Dame because they are competing in the big 10 and that is the last opportunity that you have to make your point make your case for the playoff it's the last time other teams are going to get conference championships and you know different things like that things giving is your last chance to make a point you want USC to be good and you want to embarrass them on their field that's the goal so you want them to have as many wins as possible DK will Riley Leonard lead all quarterbacks in rushing touchdowns in the power four I was looking at this yeah you take this one this is earlier so as of right now uh Jalen Millrow is the top quarterback scoring top touchdown scoring quarterback I turn my words around six he has six he's tied for fourth right now Riley Leonard is one of a slew of guys who are tied for 11th with his four touchdowns I so I mean he's not that far behind he's only two behind I could see him sharing the lead but there who was the other quarterback who there's a you know like a handful of other guys who are in that mix as well the guy from Arkansas is in their Brady cook from Missouri also has four so there's a lot of guys in that conversation I think Riley Leonard at some point is going to start throwing more touchdowns than running for touchdown so I'll say no I'll say one of these other guys ends up being the the national touchdown leader well most fans would probably want to say no to this right because they want him to be throwing all of those touchdowns because they count more didn't you know did you know that Sean that passing touchdowns count more than running touchdowns really that's what I've heard from people I didn't realize they changed rules but apparently they did so I don't think he'll lead the country because there's going to be that outlier team somewhere that will beat him you know what I mean maybe what was that list again was there any power five teams or power four teams on there that are leading but Jalen mill row mill row okay he's he's the top okay touchdown score for quarterbacks right now he's got six for Alabama and then let me find him again Brady cook from Missouri is tied with Riley Leonard okay with four talon green from arkansas also has four Leonard has four john material from washington state has four you know like if you consider that power I mean it's not I mean obviously right obviously but they're actually doing fairly well washington state right now but um there'll always be an outlier again like jackson dart has three you know like in the on the next tier so there yeah so there to answer your question there are a lot of power five guys power four guys who are in that mix moving right along well kennedy earlacker sees substantially increased first half minutes in games this season no he won't he's not even on the depth chart that was an easy one he looked great he looked great as a backup he looked great he's gonna be great but he's low on the depth chart so who are you gonna replace exactly are you gonna take out zebra watts you're gonna take out a Don Schuler becomes Vince yelling at everybody I'm just saying no the answer is no I don't even think he's on the too deep isn't wonder your kids don't want to say your name kids in your class the one who should remain nameless right I mean I think he'd be a great special teams player if that's the the route they decided to go you know it's it's kind of a question of do you want to spend maybe a season of eligibility doing that or is the developmental because I think they looked at him as more developmental guy anyway you know a guy who's going to help a year or two down the line I mean he's obviously got great football instincts we talked about him earlier this week the past coverage thing is what he's got to get figured out like would he make a better rover maybe in the future something like that that was something that kind of his yeah has crossed my mind just watching him play but like you know again he could be a he could be on all the special teams this year if they decided that it like just use a year of eligibility because he could help you up that much but I don't see him being on the too deep I don't see him cracking too deep so he is technically on the depth chart right now I just looked it up really for the boundary safety position so it's a Don Schuller as a starter then it's got Luke Talich or Kennedy or lacquer okay so how often did we see Luke Talich though you know what I mean like you're you're there's still it's still going to be a three-man rotation between Don Schuller Xavier Watson Rodherd I don't see that changing anytime soon but he did crack the depth chart as an or and I wanted to go that's a step up that's a step up for him I was gonna look at last week's depth chart just to see if he was even on it just to you know back us up he was an or last week too going into last week so he's been an or for a while and we haven't really seen him so I'm still pretty confident in where things stand Hey Irish Breakdown listeners it's Urban Meyer this fall super chat as well Dennis Stockton with another one thanks again for the super chat he says someone should bring back the Sunday morning replays like Lindsay Nelson and Paul did in the 70s that's how old I am yeah they have this thing called the internet now and I think it's kind of replaced the need you know like I remember George Michael sports machine and that kind of you know went the way of the windmill you know a while back I don't know it it um YouTube is kind of where it's at I guess right now that's that's well that's your that's your highlight machine isn't it and here's the other thing I don't think that their name games are much more available to people now live than they ever have been you know back in the 70s and so people are watching the game's live they don't need to re-watch it and if they do re-watch it you know they hit the DVR or they they have recorded it or whatever you want I know it's not an actual DVR but you know what I mean like they have no I mean that's a good point because like back in the 70s Notre Dame wasn't even nationally televised every week they had obviously some nationally televised games but they weren't on every week but there was still a big demand that's why you had that highlight show but um yeah because again and like even even now you can go to on demand with the streaming services and stuff like that fun the archive broadcast yep absolutely yep those were the days those were the days Illinois or Nebraska we'll go we'll go through some of these picks here Illinois and Nebraska I think Nebraska is actually pretty good this year so I'm probably going to have to pick this game Nebraska beat my Jayhawks a couple of weeks ago so there you go gotta take them I'm gonna go to Nebraska yeah I'm taking Nebraska I just don't better defense I think I need to see Illinois win more games before I jump on the Illinois bandwagon but Nebraska's their stock is up yeah Kansas has been pretty disappointing so I don't know how quality you know they turned around was to Illinois and then UNLV back to back weeks we already picked the USC Michigan I'm at Tennessee Oklahoma I've got a feeling we're going to be picking these for the website we haven't got the email yet saying guys get your picks in as soon as possible that's true they usually comes by now it's got to be coming here pretty soon oh man this is a tough one I I feel like I need to abstain courteously at this point because I have I need to do like when we get the pick when we get the the games were supposed to pick I actually do research on these games yeah and I haven't done that and I know that you know Tennessee's got a lot of love going on right now and I've never been a believer in the head coach at Oklahoma so I mean my gut tells me I'm probably going to go Tennessee on this one but I need to do more research I know Tennessee is favored by I want to say they might be a double digit favored if they're not it's like seven seven and a half something like that right now they've they've just looked impressive so far yeah this will be their biggest test but big first SEC game for Oklahoma hosting Tennessee do you believe in Oklahoma's coaching staff no I don't okay so much I wasn't alone on that not based on not based on what we've seen yeah last couple of years Brent Venables Solana Kansas guy I think I've talked over you have he went to the went to the rival high school which is why you know a lot of stuff about him yeah you and I had a conversation a few years ago I know fun dirt stuff on saying like and you're like he'll never get a head coaching job or well the reason he'd been passed over so many times how about right that's what I was but he got it back at the place where he essentially kind of made you know I think that that's why he ultimately yeah getting it yes well Kingston Viliamo Ossa see increased minutes in the first halves of games this season look he's playing pretty well he's already in the rotation I don't know that I see the rotation changing anytime soon the defense has been playing just fine so probably not but I wouldn't be overly surprised if it did increase just a little bit but yeah I mean I just don't know that they're gonna they're gonna be super comfortable taking Kaiser off the field now yeah that's that's exactly it I like I do wonder maybe like with what's going on at Viper could he factor in there just like in Pat you know some pass rush pass rush situations and things like that could they use a linebacker for some of that they might have to ultimately just depending on how things go I'll be kind of curious to see what that like you know because again like we're all very confident in boobikar Traori now but like he didn't like Tuyallamaka played even in the first half last week it's not like we saw him making any real impact when he was in there so is it is it a body is it impact you know that kind of you know so I think that that would be maybe a spot where he could is if they decide to go that direction because like you said I just I don't see them taking Kaiser off the field already done that Scott what are the most significant factors in Riley Leonard's passing struggle some options still learning a new offense loss of confidence some sort of injury lack of trust in the offensive line slash wide receivers or other man I'm gonna go with loss of confidence because I don't think his injury is affecting his play it certainly isn't affecting his running ability and I don't think an off shoulder injury is really gonna affect the way he throws the ball so in in order of importance here and the way I think things are I think it's loss of confidence is number one I think lack of trust in the offensive line not necessarily the wide receivers would be two and learning the new offensive be three and injury would be four I won't rank him I'll just say like I do feel like he still just looks he looked more confident last week but probably between the fact like my my early thought was well you know the guy is recovering from having all these surgeries and all this stuff and you know maybe that's factored into it you know like he's a little gun shy little hesitant whatever but then you watch him run last week and that was not an issue no by any means you know and it's just it feels like feels like for whatever reason he's just sped up you know so maybe you know the lack of experience in that offensive line in front of him he's still you know kind of trying to get used to and at the same time getting that comfort in the offense but again I think some of that has come along with some of those conversations that he's had with Dembrock in terms of we need to be doing more of this less of this just yeah figuring out the overall comfort and and sort of how he fits into that I'm a little upset like we heard that they had a meeting and all this other stuff about you know what he feels comfortable with what he doesn't feel comfortable with it's like and you waited till week three because like that was a little troubling I'm like I'm glad it finally happened but like that should be a fall camp conversation personally but hey it's okay what do you think needs the most improvement defensively I mean god they they wouldn't have given up a single point last week if their own player didn't tackle their own player so I mean I don't know that there's a I mean there's always things to work I think the defensive line I think the stars I think the guys we thought were supposed to be stars on the defensive line need to prove that their stars on a consistent basis because they haven't done it yet this year so that's where I think the most improvement needs to be I think the guys we had a lot of confidence in need to show it and then I'll be happy the veterans I need to see it from the veterans defensive line made a big leap I felt like from northern Illinois to last week but that is still to me like the linebackers for the you know there were some fit issues some tackling issues against northern Illinois I feel like some of that sort of pairs with what they weren't getting from the defensive line you know like in terms of you know any kind of you know just legit play upfront it was much better the two veterans look there was a lot that was expected of Riley Leonard and Howard Cross coming into the season and they haven't lived up to that building yet and I would just say that it like it it starts it starts with those two guys if those two guys do what they're supposed to do then everything else behind them falls in place so that's kind of where I would go with that just interior defensive line just needs to be better okay so PB and jelly time the only ones in the media that seem to be high on Leonard is I B can you explain why you know one said this a million times a complete false statement by the way I have no idea what everybody else is is saying so that's a completely false statement let me find I saw it there's only one person in the media that is pro Steve Angeli how about that because that's a fact but that's what you're looking now that's that I know who you're talking about right so look the bottom line is if you ask every person in the media who gives you the best chance to win on a consistent basis they're all going to say well not all the vast majority are going to say Riley Leonard that you're just not you're hearing what you want to hear PB and jelly time there I disagree with what you I disagree that the only people in the media that seem high on Riley Leonard is I B I completely disagree with that again I don't know you know there's only one person who I can say who I've seen what seems to be some cheerleading for for Steve Angeli you know out there and it comes on so it's one way to put it so again like I have no idea what you know like other people are saying you know if it's podcasts or or whatever else but I just my opinion is not based on you know what anyone else is saying we we form our own opinions on this and I've I've said that Riley Leonard's passing get you know we've talked about it on this show the passing game needs to get better the bottom line is does he do enough to help you win or not because as you sarcastically pointed out rushing touchdowns and passing touchdowns it's still six points either way it does not matter how it has scored and as long as he is taking them to the end zone which he didn't against Northern Illinois but then they you know again they they change some things up ran a different offense last week against Purdue as long as he's getting them into the end zone that's all that matters so that's all ice you know I will say like and you know like watching what we have watched and again you do still have a not so distant past with Riley Leonard where he has shown that he can be a true dual-thet threat quarterback it's just a matter of him getting back to that point but again as Marcus Freeman said earlier this week he also does not care if it is rushing or passing as long as they win the game figuring out how to win the game so I guess that's all I got to say about that look I you know we don't generally bring up other people and I do hesitate to do this but I'm gonna do it anyway Tim Preister on twitter today twitter x whatever the hell you want to call it was called out for example because he was what does it say he was called out as being acting like state-run media to protect Riley Leonard so clearly he's at least saying that he thinks Riley Leonard is the right choice okay because he's getting called out on saying that he's the right choice for all the wrong reasons or whatever right so clearly we're not the only one saying that Riley Leonard is the right choice to start so I'll just say that and he had to defend himself from that accusation in a public forum which is ridiculous by the way PB and Jelly this is a false statement like how many how many touchdowns did JJ McCarthy throw for last year good question like they won a national championship as Vince said earlier in the show because of defense how they played in the trenches and stout running game like how many times did they throw the ball two or three times or five times at the most in the second half their whole game plan was about beating you up getting ahead with the running game and winning that way they did not win a national championship because of JJ McCarthy last year right and because he was airing it out throwing touchdowns all over the place he threw for 22 touchdowns and four interceptions last year okay and then shy of three thousand yards in the big games solid numbers solid numbers I need to find the game like game not off the charts by any means because the big games that was not really the case um well that's the NFL he's never played it down in the NFL I don't care let me see here I know where this is riveting radio as I try to look this up but uh okay against Washington in the national championship game who knows how many touchdowns he threw in that game anybody dealer zero I mean zero I would have said zero or one but again honestly like my answer would have been it doesn't matter right they had 40 rushing touchdowns last season right you can have 40 rushing touchdowns last season Blake Corum scored 27 of them and they won a lot of games so again like I'm just I'm not gonna get wrapped up in a bunch of stats man I just that's like ant VR I'm not sure what this is pertaining to why so disingenuous we all know that's very nearsighted think what exactly was that what are we being disingenuous about I'm very genuine when I talk I've never given an opinion that I don't back or that I don't believe and if you look at the touchdowns that Karthi threw he had three against East Carolina he had two against UNLV he had two against Bowling Green he had one against Rutgers two against Nebraska one against Minnesota three against IU four against a putrid Michigan state team zero against Purdue zero against Penn State zero against Maryland one against Ohio State zero against Iowa three against Alabama I will give him credit for that and zero in the national championship game against Washington I just let go we're never going to make everybody happy with this quarterback conversation that's just the way it is and in a PB and jelly came back with if that's the case why not just keep Buckner because Buckner decided to follow Tommy Reese to Alabama that was how their decision he wasn't kicked out you know like we can go back to this if you want because Marcus Freeman's plan was you bring in Sam Hartman last year Hartman and Buckner competed for the job in the spring Hartman won which shocker everybody knew he was going to win but he won the job and Tyler Buckner made the decision to transfer to Alabama and if you remember when Buckner announced he was coming back to Notre Dame to play lacrosse and all that stuff you remember that big long letter that he wrote whether it was Jat GPT or whatever it was you know like he wrote that letter but he wrote that letter and he talked about sort of like following you know he following Fool's Gold or what it like he listened to voices or whatever like basically he was saying he shouldn't listen to Tommy Reese in Alabama so we're false promises or whatever he should have just stayed here and he regretted it and he came back but my point is if Tyler Buckner had stayed instead of transferring I would say there's probably a 90% chance that he is the quarterback right now in Riley Leonard never came here that's a pretty good point actually yeah that's a pretty good point because he had a whole of the year that was the succession plan that Tyler Buckner was going to follow Sam Hartman he would have competed this past spring with Angelian Menchie whether or not he won it I don't know but that was his decision to go to Alabama so yeah and it's kind of set the whole rest of the next year to in motion because of that yeah I completely agree with that and look everybody's entitled to their opinion I have no problem with people want right again back up quarterback's always going to be the most popular guy in the team that that that has been the case since you know way back when they first started playing football so I don't have any problem with somebody wanting what they want we've got our opinion because we've seen these guys play and I mean look in my opinion the most talented quarterback isn't even playing most talented quarterback on the roster isn't even playing this year so I still think they're playing the right guy but he's not even the most talented guy on the roster yeah appreciate you appreciate the comments appreciate the questions PB and jelly for keeping it simple yeah he says you know we all want the same thing to win appreciate you guys having the dialogue rather than just banning it or throwing it appreciate we're not going to ban anybody it's the same we all you know we kick around a lot of stuff here and we you know this is mailbag days we obviously bring it all maybe appreciate you know all the the input and the questions and everything else you know and again there's never going to be a consensus no opinion on what's going on with the quarterback the quarterback is literally going to have to play perfect for that to happen and all it takes is yeah you know I hesitate to even say it but you know there was a certain pro team that I pull for and they got bludgeoned last week by New Orleans you know like New Orleans is still scoring offensively they scored like the first 16 times they had the ball this season including every time they had the ball in the first half last week but who did a lot of fans point the blame at the quarterback of the other team because apparently he wasn't you know scoring enough points to keep up even though their defense was just getting bludgeoned just it's just always gonna do all the blame at two what is too much blame too much credit goes the quarterback's way the head coach way way it is. so a king supers pharmacy care is
