I'm Kat, mother of three and founder of Ritual, the company making traceability the new standard in the supplement industry. I remember staring at my prenatal vitamins and finding all these things I was trying to avoid-- high amounts of heavy metals, synthetic colorants, and unnecessary ingredients. So at four months pregnant, I quit my job and started ritual because I believe that all women deserve to know what they're putting in their bodies and why. I'm so proud of our prenatal vitamin. The ingredients are 100% traceable, it's third party tested for microbes and heavy metals, and recently received the purity award from the Clean Label Project. You see, we trace like a mother because, let's be honest, no one cares quite like a mother. But don't just take my word for it. Trace for yourself with 25% off at ritual.com/preneal. Is Aaron Rogers the guy to finally flip the scripts on this Jets and Patriots rivalry? [MUSIC PLAYING] What's going on, everybody? Guys and girls, welcome back to another edition of the Football Function Podcast. Available on all your podcasting platforms, including on Patreon, if you prefer an ad-free listening experience. As always, I am one of the hosts of the show. Michael Ritter, you can find me on X at Michael5Ritter or on Instagram at MichaelRitter5. Joining me on this episode, per usual, my homo co-host. Oh. Student of the game, young Terrence Minifil. Howdy. Terry, how are we doing? And I am living well right now. Feel really rejuvenated, woke up this morning. Just being extra happy. We had a good day yesterday at the volleyball courts. Oh, we did. Excellent turnout. We are in a new league, new division. And we're about to take it by storm, man. We went-- what was it? 2 and 2. 2 and 2. But we won our last two. Yeah. And we didn't get blown out of any game. How long? We could have easily went 3 and 1. Even 4 and 0 had we just tightened up the screws. But obviously, as the games went on, our third and fourth game were just absolutely better than our first two. It looked like-- Step in the right direction. It looked like practice, is what it was. When we were out there practicing and getting shit straight and that other team came, and they thought they were going to-- It's our summer workouts. You know, no, we didn't have to do those practices. Yeah, yeah, exactly. You know, it was mandatory. It was the off season in between the seasons. You know, there was a three-week gap where our Tuesdays were free and-- The off season, baby. We just so happened to say, you know what? Screw that, our Tuesdays are already devoted to volleyball. Why not keep it that way, go to a different court that's not being used, and really grind? And I feel like that's kind of what it is. You know, whenever you're in the off season, like the Boston Celtics, whenever they're in the off season, they're not going to the TD Garden and running gasses, shooting three-point shots. No, they're all in their individual places. They're all doing their own thing. Getting work. And that's kind of what we did, because some of our teammates went and had tournaments elsewhere. And also, you know, we were playing scrimmages against random teams with shout-out to them. Yeah, big shout-outs. But I feel like-- You don't even know any of their names. No, none of them. But I do feel like they came in to our court and thought they were going to run shit. And the opposite happened. It was absolutely awesome. I felt like Chris Sale on the mound when I was back there serving when we were playing against that team. I remember one time in particular, just to give you an idea of the team we were playing, because this isn't going to happen against, you know-- The League players. --an average to above average team, especially the teams, like you said, like we're playing up against. But I remember when I was back there serving before we rotated, meaning before the other team got a single point, I had like 16 straight serves. That is no joke. No one. Yeah, so we were just scoring points left and right. And our team benefited-- or benefited from it. Yeah, it really showed yesterday. And team captain was very happy when we were home. And when team captain is happy, definitely the household a lot better. MVP. Definitely MVP, yes, definitely. But just a whole different outlook than we were in last season. Emma's not as pissed. She wasn't pissed at all yesterday. She even got her a couple blocks. So that's what she was really ecstatic about. She was winning every rep going up against that one dude. Yeah, that guy, yeah, definitely. I don't remember what it was. I made sure to let her know, too. Hey, you're winning every single rep, like you are absolutely just blocking this deep shit. And it was so fucking awesome, dude. And I don't know how many times I've said it before, but just seeing Emma in her element, brother, it's a lot to me. Get you going on. No, dude, it's the key that drives the engine, dog. All right, well, interesting. But oh, no, good turnout, except for me pegging my daughter in the face of the football. Oh, my gosh, man, you're like, oh, all that was all good until that shit happened. So you're making some snags. Now, you can say, what's the root of the issue? Well, why the hell did they go get the football? No, no, no, no. The second problem is-- That's to keep the shoulder warm, you know? The second problem is, why was it bulleted in that? Why was it beamed under love? Keep in mind, this isn't like, ooh, let's go play catch. First throw, bam, he pegs her. This is after about her catching probably closer to about 40 to 50. Yeah, we're out there for a good minute. We were throwing at you and she was catching them. She's bringing them in. So yeah, Terry put a little bit more juice in it. You guys don't realize it because a lot of you probably-- obviously, Terry's not an NFL quarterback or anything like that, so you're not going to be familiar with him, although there are some listeners out there that are familiar with our flag football days. And Terry's a pretty impressive quarterback. He's definitely got an arm like that is no doubt about it. And he put some zip on it. There was a couple of times because we were out there playing catch with each other. You hate to see it happen, but a couple do. Just go right through the hands just because you know you bring them in there, you're slacking. They come in with that velocity, and it goes right through. But I do like to catch more, obviously, than I drop. But nonetheless. You put it in there. Yeah, I put sauce on it too. Right through her hands. And it just so happened, you know? Felt so bad in the game. But she took it like a champ. Yes, she did. You know, shout out to her because, man, that could have been a lot worse. And like I said, you know, it happened over here at our house, not that long ago. I know what it's like to, you know, witness the youngling, take a football right to the eye. Oh, man. And I put so much heat on it too. Perfect pin spiral, everything. Yeah. Straight to the knocking. Lesson learned. She will know. I guarantee she won't drop another one like that. No, no, no. And this isn't the first time. Like, obviously, we'll go out and play catch all the time and we have a football at the house. We'll play all the time. And it's not the first time she's been pegged in the face or in the stomach or whatever. So she's used to, I mean, it's not like-- I'm just out there beaming her in the face all the time. We play catch. She's a little tomboy in her own. But when that happened to him, it was just instant heartbreak. Her mama came over and she was trying to fight back the tears so hard. And then-- Here they came. Yeah. And then my tears came too. That's tough, man. There really is. Shout out there. Shout out to Nova. She took it like a champ. She's going to be a great athlete. Because of things like this. Because, you know, whenever she's out there playing against girls her own age, she's going to remember, oh my gosh. When I got pegged in the face with a phone with my dad. Yeah, she's going to have those stories. You know, those stories don't just magically appear. You have to go through them. It's a small price to pay for stories that you're going to be able to tell down the line. But nonetheless, thank you guys so much for joining us here on this episode, this Thursday night football preview. I'm going to be previewing the New England Patriots, going to Met Life. Huge game. To take on the New York Jets to start off this week three, which is a very special week. Obviously, going to be a very interesting weekend of football, very interesting weekend at the football function, a very loaded show. Let me just go ahead and say that. Tonight, it's just Terri and I, because we really have to let this thing boil. Like we're barely turning the grill on. It's on low right now. But just know that this weekend, we got some stuff heating up a very good review show, specifically the cast of characters that are going to be on that review show. I'm not going to be here. We've been talking about it. I'm going to be in Atlanta for the Falcons week three games. And then I football against the Kansas City Chiefs. Come to hell for high water. You're going to be there. I will be there. I promise you, right now we're dealing with some ID things. Yeah, a little behind the scenes. And see kind of what happened, you know? We'll put that out there. Let's just say that tomorrow's a big day. My work schedule is already being affected by this. Terri, we should have started this podcast probably about 30 minutes ago. Got a call from the boss man though. Yeah, to kind of square some things away, to get tomorrow situated. Because I am going to try to get this ID situation handled. Don't lose your ID though, let's just say that. And if you do, don't lolligag around getting it replaced. Go immediately, do what you got to do because you really never know. But hopefully, like I said, tomorrow's a big day in this whole timeline. Because if, it's a big if, the flight situation doesn't work, which, god forbid that happened. Because I mean, hotel, I'm going to need an ID. Maybe that'll work. Maybe my paper ID. Yeah, I think a paper ID will work in a damn hotel. I think it will. But if that is the case, a little key might take off driving tomorrow, like four. Hey. Just drive. Just sleep at the car. How the hell am I going to stay up? We'll see. Couple of red balls. Maybe time it out because we've done this before, you know. Extra kill. Tv as Kayla will attest. There was a specific part of that drive that I just so happened to sleep through. Yeah, just not rough, huh? Not rough a little bit, eh? No, I drift away from time and Kayla Grant, being the freakin' nice guy that he is, which that's another person that we got to shout out because he's going to be giving Terry a hand. Damn right he is. As well as in the others. He's a nice guy and he's more than willing to take the lion's share of a 16-hour drive. He's been known to take the bullet. Let's just hope that is not the case. But I won't be here one way or another. Yes, sir. Terence Minifil will be steering the ship. Yeah, baby. And this isn't like, you know, a starting quarterback goes down and it's the last second and you got to back up. He's gonna piss down their leg and, you know, not deliver for the team. Terry Minifil is going to be leading a show and a lineup that, you know, it's gotta be pretty special here on the Football Function podcast. We've never had this specific group of guys, and to be completely honest, I'm a little bit jealous that I'm not gonna be here. But I am looking forward to what the show is going to be. The guys that he is going to have help him this weekend. Yes, sir. Obviously, host of the college football function, CM. Hey, is it Mike? Is that how you see me? He's going to be giving Terry a little bit of a hand, providing some insight, making the episode that much more entertaining. We all know what CM brings to the table, especially a prime time addition to CM. It's been a long time, you know, keep in mind, he used to come on the football function all the time. It's not like we intentionally don't have him on. It's just whenever you have somebody recording multiple episodes a week, like CM does for the college football function, it's hard for me to say, oh yeah, by the way, let's show you in another night. Now, that's not saying he wouldn't be willing to do it. His schedule allowed him to, but I don't want to put that on him. You know, I don't want to throw that much on his plate. College football is a lot to cover. There's way more games every single weekend. They're all going on at the same time. He physically cannot get his eyes on all of these games at once. So, of course, there's going to be a lot of catching up to do. The last thing I want him to do is, hey, go cover these games. But because I'm not going to be here this weekend, he told me, hey, I'm more than willing to do it, and I know this CM is more than capable of delivering, especially bringing him up for this one episode. It's almost like, okay, you bring up that pitcher who's in your bullpen, that veteran. He might be, you know, several years past his prime, and I'm not saying CM several years past his prime, but I'm saying the pitcher might be seven years past his prime, so that's why he's not starting anymore. But whenever you bring him in, you know, you need him to just start this game. You're in an intense playoff series, and you need that guy to deliver, give you six good innings. I feel like CM's that guy that can deliver, give us six good innings. - 'Cause definitely, CM is Robinson Connell in the league. - Yes, absolutely. - But not just CM, we are also going to have Mr. Plum Crazy himself. - Let's go. - Howard Poole, patron of the year joining us. - Shout out. - He's going to be giving Terry a hand as well. - I know. - You already know what Howard's gonna be bringing to the table, I'm looking forward to hearing him and his insight, again, extremely electric and entertaining whenever he's on these episodes, so we love that from Howard. And you know, we kind of, you know, if we're going to have that many people, why not sprinkle in one more? - And that is our good buddy, Grim Riefer. - It's the Grim. - Most of not only Riefer's rivalries, which you can find here on the football function podcast, but also Grim Wagers. - Me too. - So he's doing two shows here. Now they're not going on at the same time, but obviously he's delivering some very good betting and gambling advice whenever it comes to the NFL side of things. So you're going to have Grim Riefer. - What? - Howard Poole. - What? - CM. - Let's go. Caleb Grant delivering as well. - Shut up, K-T. - So you are not alone. And you know, that's one thing, that's kind of why I wanted to transition here immediately to just saying, shout out to everybody that reached out. We put a little bit of a, I don't even want to say a casting call or anything like that, but we just said, hey, Terry's going to need some help. You know, I'm not going to be here. This isn't something that we normally do, especially week three in the NFL season. It's like it's week nine where he's in mid-season form or anything like that. So the fact that we had multiple people reach out to us and say, hey, I'm willing to help. Let me know what to do. Let me know what I need to do. - That's so sick, man. - That's awesome. You know, I appreciate you guys. Those of you that aren't going to be on this episode that reached out, we are going to have, you know, more guests down the line. I think week four actually, Frankie Graham. - Ooh. - Detroit's own, the Detroit line fan himself is going to be joining us. So I can't wait for that. But yeah, speaking of guests, we're going to have a lot of them coming in. - Damn right, I'm so, so ecstatic for that. That just shows the growth of the podcast and just the love of the game that NFL brings. Not only, you know, the guys are, you know, respectful to us, we're all in this together, loving one sport, and that's just how, that's just a test of what the NFL can bring. Like we would not be together if it wasn't for this game. And man, I'm so blessed to have these guys and call these guys friends, companions, brothers, and just bringing them along the ride that we've been on and what we're going to take into the future is just awesome to see all these guys and gals just participating in what we've, you know, what we've got here and where we plan on taking this is, you know, astronomical man. - It's not that we don't take lightly. - Hell no, and the guys that we bring on is going to be that tight-knit family that we've always wanted, man. So we appreciate all you guys. - The support that we get from them, like I've always said, like I don't really know what the expectations we had going into podcasting were. Like I don't really know what we thought we were getting into or we thought, you know, things were going to be like or whatever. But one thing I will say, you know, this isn't a shot at anybody out there at all. It's just, you know, kind of a fact that I've learned is that sometimes people who you don't even know, complete strangers will support you before people who you've known your whole life. - Facts. - And that's what it's really about is the people who want to be here, the people who want to contribute to the podcast. That like, those are the people that I want on the show. No matter how long I've known you, how I've met you. - I want them around you, period. - The connection that we've made to, you know, obviously these hosts and the people that contribute, you know, shout out to Goose as well. I've known Goose for a very long time. You know, literally since I was a little kid, I've known Goose and played football with him as well. - The homie. - And, you know, obviously he's been helping us out with the prime time edition of the football function. So man, it's just a good time for us to give the flowers to some of the people who are contributing, who are going to be helping you out. And, you know, I'm looking forward to hearing that episode. - I'm looking forward to doing it, man. I'm pumped for the Sunday. I was kind of nervous going into thinking, you know, me going by myself being solo-dolo, but now that the cast call that, you know, the people that answered the cast call, man, it's going to be a wiry episode. I cannot wait. - Owning a rental property sounds like a dream until you realize how much work goes into getting it ready. - Determinate competitive rent price, market the property, schedule the showing screen, tenants, draft the lease at rent collection, handle maintenance request, maintain communication. - Whew, sound complicated? I think Andy has brought something up about how they might be testing out a couple of their color schemes, but nothing out of an ordinary right now. - Well, what are you expecting in this game? - Man, I am expecting improvement from my team here. I definitely think it's gonna be a game where a low score game affair is going to be, it's going to happen. It's inevitable here. Like, this is two teams that are coming off of games that we wanna put behind us, quick, fast, and in a hurry. There's a lot of things that we did wrong in the last game, a lot of things that we did right. Definitely, we're gonna take those of those things that, in criticism of us, we're gonna take it to the heart and learn, 'cause we definitely hate losing to the Jets. Haven't done it in a while, but, you know, there's just something about this year, obviously, us having a regression and going through a couple of things. In my personal opinion, it's gonna come down to weapons. It's gonna come down to depth. It's gonna come down to, can we match their firepower? Can we match the scoring points, ultimately? - You match their freak, ultimately. - Yeah, and I don't think we can get done like that. I don't think where our weapons are capable of, of, you know, the explosive plays, getting us, you know, extra yardage, or, you know, our weapons in our wide receiving group is lackluster. And Jacobic Percet can only do so much. He got pretty banged up last week, so we might be seeing rookie this week a little bit, maybe. Yeah, I definitely think we may win this one. I wouldn't be surprised if we pull it out, you know, maybe a three-point win. But damn, did Aaron Rodgers look good last week? Yeah, last game he did. They were coming off a short week. They are playing their first home game, so the juices are gonna be high for the deaths. They're gonna be wanting to come out with a bang. Yeah, I think we'll hang around. If they let us come down, you know, us have the ball of the last second. God forbid we let Aaron Rodgers in company have more than three minutes left in the fourth quarter. If we do, it's over. But yeah, I think our defense will hold down Pat. We'll get the ball 40-yard line with a couple minutes left. We'll run the ball to like the four 40-yard, they're 40 seconds, and we'll kick a field goal. We'll maybe win by three, and we'll put this behind us. Two one-in-one ball clubs. Yep. Kind of tough to gauge it right away as who's going to win this game. The Patriots are really good against Cincinnati. - Mm-hmm, damn bad. - What happened this past week? - You know, we just, secondary. Secondary got torched. D.K. Met Kevin's running wild, and so was Jackson Smith and-- - Double blown. - Yeah, a couple of blown's, coverages. But like I said, I feel like we learned from those mistakes. I think Kyle Duggar was a lot of the problem. He was in, out of position with a lot of the, a lot of the miscues and stuff. So, you know, if it was, you know, a lot of the younger guys, I would be a lot worried, but if, you know, him being more of the vet in the room, I have no doubt that he's going to play a lot better. So, I think our, our secondary will hold down Pat and play a lot better than they did last week. - So, what do you think about the Jacobi reset aspect of this game? - Yeah. - Like, you feel like prime time going against a very tough Jets defense. - Turn around on the road. - This is like prime journeyman quarterback who doesn't necessarily have a whole lot of statement victories under his belt, in the past, or in the recent past, I guess I should say. Do you expect him to just go on the road, shred this team, like this New York Jets defense, or do you expect if it's a rough game, God forbid he gets hurt. Do you think that this could be an opportunity, 'cause I mean, you see some of the rookie quarterback that we've seen, like-- - We haven't seen one throw touch on you? - Exactly. So, like, are you hoping that, that drag may stays on the bench, kind of stays on the bench for the whole season, despite, you know, what might happen in this game? 'Cause I'm telling you, if it gets out of hand, which, you know, who knows, I'm not saying it could, but the Jets are a good team. They just have a really loaded defense, especially. So, if it ends up getting out of hand, are you going to, you know, continue with that patience to say no, leave him on the bench, or is this a game for Jacobi Prasad, where it's like, man, if he, you know, shits the bed, pisses down his leg, we gotta get the young cat in there. - No, no, no, no, if he shits the bed, and if he's playing horrible, keep him in there. We definitely don't let our young gun, you know, jump in too early. I'm not saying that Jacobi is a horrible person to learn behind or sit behind. I just don't want to set our future behind our offensive line right now. 'Cause our offensive line should be a lot better than what they've been showing, but it is horrendous how they are playing right now. And part of the fact of why Jacobi's coming in, so banged up, with all the pressure he was getting on this week, he got hit 12 times, sacked four times. And a couple of them, we had had to freaking pick him off off the ground, like it took all five linemen to help him off the field, so. Definitely gonna come in banged in this week, so his health is gonna be a huge factor of this game, but Jacobi's a baller, man. I think he can definitely manage this team, definitely will us to, you know, at least finishing the season. That's what I'm, you know, that's what he'll I'm on. I definitely want Drake May to sit the whole year. That is my personal opinion. I hope, you know, he can see some game time in a blowout win, more of a situation of not a dominant defensive line like we're facing today. So I'm, I'm, I want Jacobi were set definitely to finish out the season in a healthy manner and with a factor of him playing good and getting us maybe into the playoffs. But as far as Drake May, I, I want him on the bench, man. - You need to see this culture, this system, whatever you want to call it, get implemented first. In my personal opinion, just kind of the Falcons deal with the same thing. First time head coach, not first time, but you know, new head coach, first time in a long time. And we got a Ricky quarterback as well, hasn't seen the field, but I feel like for the people, like for the Falcons fans that were and still artists, they want Michael Pinnox. They don't give a shit what Kirk Cousins does. I know that he's the future. - I've been hearing that a lot. - Let's get to the future now. Like they want to throw him in there as if he's going to solve the problems, but after week one, we saw like what we thought the problems were were like the system, right? Like what the offensive coordinator was doing, like is the system working? Cause that's why you want him on the bench. So he can learn the system. So he can learn what they're going to do. But if that system isn't working, like is he wasting his time learning it and you're just throwing him out there to the wolves, where are you just going to be doing a failing system and setting him up for failure? So that's the thing that I feel like we're seeing in Atlanta, especially after week two, is that no, that system is going somewhere. The culture is being built a huge statement when, and this is just going to help Michael Pinnox. And I feel like if the Jets can kind of do the same thing, or not the Jets, I'm sorry, the Patriots. If they can kind of do the same thing here, get a big prime time win on the road, like what the Falcons did against a very talented defense. And I think that maybe, you know, obviously we're not going to, this conversation is about keeping Drake May on the bench. If the Patriots can get a very good win, then it'll say more about their culture. It's not all about the quarterback. You know, it's about the whole team. Their defense is going to be a big reason why they can stay in this game. We're going to see a lot of care, Wilson, probably versus Christian Gonzalez. So that's something you can get really excited about. But I just feel like this would be a failed opportunity to not see some type of throwback match up here. Because I mean, these two teams could really put together some special. - Yeah, that would be so. It would be pretty sick. - And you know, we can get the green jet helmet with the white Patriot helmet. That would be a sight to behold. But what is your pick here? Are you picking the Patriots? - Yeah, most definitely. I'm picking the Patriots to take it. I, like I said, I hope we keep Aaron Rodgers on the bench, on the sidelines with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. I hope we do kick a field goal to win the game. I really do hope and think that this game is going to come down to that. It's going to be a close barn burner. Just a defensive matchup where we're just trying to figure out who's going to fuck up first. If we can keep a clean slate, which Kobe could just find, just check downs, his little five yard dumps that he's been doing, we've been connecting a little bit with a little bit downfield, 20 yards and plus, not so many. But if we can hold Aaron Rodgers in that Jets offense to maybe 200 total yards, that'd be sick. But yeah, I think we'll definitely take it in the fourth quarter. - I'm going to have to go with the home team here. I don't. - I don't doubt it. - I mean, I don't necessarily like think that the Patriots don't have a shot, like everything. Obviously these are two one in one team for a reason, but you just have to think that this one means a lot to Aaron Rodgers, thinking about what the, what the Bears rivalry always meant to him. - Yeah. - You know, with the Packers and he's probably going to be looking for that team here in the AFCE's because when you ask Aaron Rodgers, he's probably thinks he's going to play two or three more years and he wants that rivalry and it almost seems like he understands, you know, who the big dog was for the longest time in this division. That doesn't fall, you know, on deaf ears to him. He knows exactly what's going on. And I think that, yeah, he's probably going to have it out for the Patriots. So I think this game might be pretty special and you know, the Jets are going to want to win it. So I will side with the home team here and pick the New York Jets to start the week. - All right, all right. - As for you, the Funkeys, thank you guys so much for tuning into this episode. - Let me drop in Thursday morning, along with the college football function. - We need to see him. - We need to see him for preview. No, well now you have. I'm Kat, mother of three and founder of Ritual, the company making traceability the new standard in the supplement industry. I remember staring at my prenatal vitamins and finding all these things I was trying to avoid. High amounts of heavy metals, synthetic colorants, and unnecessary ingredients. So, at four months pregnant, I quit my job and started ritual. Because I believe that all women deserve to know what they're putting in their bodies and why. I'm so proud of our prenatal vitamin. The ingredients are 100% traceable, it's third-party tested for microbes and heavy metals, and recently received the purity award from the clean label project. You see, we trace like a mother because let's be honest, no one cares quite like a mother. But don't just take my word for it. Trace for yourself with 25% off at virtual.com/preneidal.
