(upbeat music) - Good morning Chicago, and welcome in to the Captain Jacob Morning Show, on ESPN 1000, and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. With David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you, we've got Shane. We've got Jay Moore, and we've got you. Here on this Tuesday morning, thanks so much for being with us. Still to come, Snorpom. We'll come your way at 935 as Shane goes through the top teams in college football, but right now, if you aren't holding you, we'll be on the air as we talk to you about the Bears. 312-332-3776 is our phone number, capped. So, you know, as I told you earlier, I watched when I put all the double header that we saw yesterday, my takeaway is, Buffalo's right there on the precipice of taking over in their conference. I mean, Josh Allen's very good, and they're not missing a beat without Stepon Diggs. They demolished Jacksonville yesterday. Boy, Josh Allen is good, man. And if you go back and look at his numbers, his rookie season, horrible. Remember there were people, Jay Moore, that's like a family friend of yours. Remember what people were saying after his rookie year? I don't know about this, dude. He's too erratic. Isn't that what they were saying? Yeah. Thank you, dad. And, as Jay Moore, his rocket chair, saying I told you so. Yeah, I told you that kid was gonna be a good player for people out there. Jay Moore's son was his full back. He blacked for him, their family friends. I mean, they literally blast him, like, they just say he wasn't good. He was supposed to go in the first round. It was just like, I witnessed it. I saw it in person, so I knew he was coming. How about this? He was a small school bias. As a rookie, he completed 52.8% of his passes. 10 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, pass the rating at 67.9. The next year, he completed 58.8, 20 to nine. Then he went 37 to 10, 36 to 15, 35 to 14. 29 to 18 took a little hiccup last year, still through for the last four years, he's thrown for over 4,000 yards. And this year, he's completing 75% of his passes through three weeks, seven TDs to zero interceptions and a pass the rating of 133.7. - That's one story. The other story is that Jane Daniels in the Washington commanders area of the win their game yesterday against the Bengals by the score of 38 to 33. - Yep. - And there's been people all over social media comparing the Bears and Caleb Williams to Jane Daniels and the Washington commanders. - Correct. - Through three games, there are Bears fans that are on bended knee, wishing that they had Jane Daniels as their quarterback. And what I would say is get yourself a burgundy and gold jersey and be a commanders fan. If you just, you're like, I wish we had Cliff Kingsborough, I wish we had Jane Daniels. If that's how you feel through three games, then you're not a Bears fan. You can admire what they're doing. Like I admire a lot of different things in the NFL. But if you're a Bears fan, what you should, what I would say is you have to command the best. You have to be able to hold the team accountable. That's how you do it, Cap. I mean, you can wish and click your heels all you want about certain talent that you wish was on the football team, but the football team is what it is. - You're correct. - You can wish and you can hope and you can tweet about it and you can complain about it and bitch and moan about it. But the bottom line is, if you're a Bears fan, you should command for the Bears to be the best that they can be around this rookie quarterback. He's a number one pick. Caleb Williams was by far the consensus number one pick. That's why the Bears took him. Now it's about how he can get better through his first year and how the Bears can support him. That's where my energy is. Not about, I watched playing at football and I wished that Jay Daniels is our quarterback because he looked so good. Cap, the Bears are the Bears. - That is correct. And all the people, we could have had Cliff Kingsbury. Cliff Kingsbury fired by Texas Tech. And by the way, he finished under 500 of Patrick Mahomes. Then he went to the Arizona Cardinals. He got fired there for going 4 and 13. Out, see you later. He was a consultant at USC. Consultant. - Yep. - And all of a sudden through three weeks, oh my God. He should have been our OC. - That's the same OC, by the way. Put him in, hey, put him in a blue and orange. He still have to work with this offensive line. - Correct. - That's all I'm saying. Like it's one thing to just want to be able to have certain players or coaches. Like that would turn the fortunes around. Yes, it would turn it around some. But still, it's about personnel. And that's why the spotlight's on Ryan Polls. - Correct. - And rightfully so. Didn't Sylvie do a poll? 'Cause I voted on it yesterday. Did he do a poll about where you placed a blame? Was that yesterday? - I'm gonna look it up right now. - I might have put it in my bookmarks or in my likes. I have to take a look at that. But there was a poll that Sylvie from Weddle and Sylvie put up about. Eber Flus, Polls, Shane Waldron, something else, as far as the blame game is concerned. I think Eber Flus is third on that list. - So Sylvie's poll question today is directed at you. White Sox fans, are you rooting against the Sox? - All right, all right. Let's see, how 'bout the Bears poll? - The Bears poll question, let's see it's a lot of stuff on it. - There's a lot. - He's got a lot of content on there. - Who are you most disappointed with? Eber Flus, offensive line, Ryan Polls, Shane Waldron. - It's a good poll. - Yeah, I am going to... - Get a vote? - Yeah, I'm most disappointed in Eber Flus. - Mm. - I am. - Wow, that's, well tell us why. I was surprised you didn't check Waldron there. - No, it's Eber Flus. First of all, the buck has to stop with him. He's the head coach. You blew four challenge, or you had four questionable decisions, two bad challenges a week ago. Again, I can overlook the pick six one. I'll say that again, 'cause it was a game changer and it's close. The other one was ridiculous. You tend to take a timeout for a two point conversion. You're play calling, and you're the head coach, man. You hear that stuff through your headset. Wildcat, this one, the blocking with the Andre Carter, and you told Waddle and Sylvia a year ago, and I brought it up to him. You told Waddle and Sylvia, big on big. We're not gonna do that again. And you did it. And the Andre Carter got swallowed up in the process. He said which with Khalil Herbert, got tackled to him and Herbert at the same time. - That falls on the head coach. So I'm giving Eber Flus number one. Shane Waldron won Sylvia's poll question. 34.9%, the O line 31%. Eber Flus 22%. Ryan polls 11.2%. - And that's wrong, Shay, by the way. Her polls only get 11% on the voter there. That's wild. Go ahead. - Go ahead. - I mean, listen, my criticism of polls is very vocal right now that he opened free agents to be spending eight million on the running back. I never agreed with it. Waldron, I think, is getting a little bit of a fair deal. Unfair deal. How are you supposed to call plays when the interior of your O line can't block anything? - Well, let me ask you a question. That is the same interior that he had last year. - Yup. - That's the same O line you had last year. Now, I know some of it was Justin's who running quarterback so that helped add to rushing yards, but they weren't this incompetent. - I don't know what, I said that yesterday. How have they gotten worse? - Darnell Wright looks way worse. - Does that fall on Chris Morgan? 'Cause Darnell Wright looks awful. - Yeah, but Chris Morgan looks the same guy last year. - I know, but who are we supposed to point at? - The player. - Or the OC? - Both, it's all encompassing. - And it's like-- - It's all encompassing. - The other thing, when you keep seeing Caleb make throws and DJ Moore's running a go route and the throw is clearly like a comeback route he's throwing to a spot where the guy is supposed to be, but three, four times a game, you've got a guy running the wrong route. Well, it can't be on the receiver every time that the receivers are just not understanding the place. That's gotta be on somebody. - Just one of the reasons, another reason why I'm happy for Justin Fields. I continue to say that because I'm happy for him. Imagine him behind this offensive line again. He's, Justin's only been sacked six times. Now, again, you and I are not breaking down the all 22 of the Steelers games. I'm sure if we would, we'd say it's on Justin or it's on the offensive line or because of timing, whatever, but he's been sacked six times in three games. And again, it's now-- - I got sacked seven in one game. - Well, that's the whole point, right? It's not like he's just in the spectacular, but the point is though, is that behind this line, imagine what it'd be like. It'd be like the same old same old, it'd be like a nightmare again for him. - Fair? - You gotta strain it out. If you fix your secondary, you're fixed to your defensive line. If you fix your wide receiver room, if you feel like you have enough in your running back room, if you feel like it's best to have the number one pick be the consensus number one pick and Caleb Williams, then why do you fall short on the offensive line? 312-332-3776, our phone number. Marcus in Minneapolis is with us on the ESPN Chicago app. Marcus, good morning. - What's up guys? Man, you brought me a ride over time. - What's up, buddy? - So speaking of offensive line, right? I'm just curious how come, it seems like all of a sudden this year, the bears have like the worst offensive line in the league, according to what I'm hearing on the radio and on social media. 'Cause that's what I'm hearing when I'm hearing you guys say that, and the reason I say that is because I'm not saying that they're the best. And I wanna preference this by saying this is not a Justin versus Caleb conversation for me. I think we made the right decision with Caleb. But we have to, it's not just one, 'cause last year, you guys were saying, Justin had the best time to throw in there, and I feel like one of the best in there in that field. And this is the same offensive line, but now we're seeing the offensive line is so terrible now that Caleb's here. And it's like, it was like that last year, but it was like we wanted to put the majority of the blame on Justin Fields. And now we're putting it on the offensive line out of Caleb's here. It's like, it's problems all across the board. It's not just one, it's not just Waldron, it's not just offensive line. Caleb has some blame in there too. Given he's a rookie, he's gonna get better, but we can't make arguments just to fit narratives. We have to be honest about the issues. It's not just one issue, it could be a main issue, but receivers takes some blame in this. Caleb, offensive line, offensive coordinator. I just don't know what it is in Chicago. I don't know. - No, you laid it out, Marcus. - That's fair. - What you just laid out is all of it. It's all of the above, but because it starts with polls by not addressing the offensive line with solid veterans. That's one. You talk about Caleb Williams being a rookie quarterback. That's another thing that again, I said this June, July, August. Cab knows I said it. You're gonna go through growing pains with a rookie quarterback. Shane Waldron coming in for the first time. I've said it a million times in the show that it doesn't work sonically for everybody. It just doesn't. And what I'm not saying that the Bears are going to be the worst team in the division or they're gonna completely underachieve or tank this thing. I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is is that when you have Caleb Williams coming in, learning on the job, he's gonna get better and better. We've always seen it. He's gotten better. The results aren't there as far as the one loss record, but you've seen him. He was better. There's the best game he had. Was the last game we saw against the Colts. Got a couple of touchdowns out of it. Yep, two TDs, 363 yards passing. 11 ties total in the history of the Bears organization. And I'm seeing growth. Just gotta keep doing it, man. Now it has to manifest itself into wins, Cap. Gotta win. Gotta win. This Rams game. I know you don't like to use the phrase big game in September, but you really wanna be one in three to start things off. With all the players that's on this roster. You lose this one. Oh, doctor. It's not about my expectations. It's not about your expectations. What do the Bears think up there they should be? That's what counts, right, in the building. It is, listen, all of us have a voice and we're all fans, but it's about their expectations. Paul's expectations, we're gonna take another step and that meant the playoffs. That's his expectations. I mean, we feel the same way, but we feel that way every year. But if the GM says, okay, this is a time for taking another step, then you're gonna make it? You're gonna take another step? Or will you go sideways again? You cannot tell me that this, as Marcus said, this offensive line can't be this bad. It's basically the same group with the exception of changing out the center, from Lucas Patrick to Coleman Shelton. You can't tell me they're this bad. Oh, well, you know what? It's the same old line coach. It's not like you brought somebody else in. Paul's gonna tell you the same thing. You played it several times when the pregame, because it's execution issues, not the players. They execute, okay. - They were fine last year. I'm not saying they were the eagles or the lions, but they were fine. - We're all right. - Yeah. - He says it's just an execution issue that the players are fine. We will find out, won't we? - We're going to. - 3, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6 is our phone number. Where have your phone calls coming up on the bears? On Cap and J-Hood. (upbeat music) - Cap and J-Hood on back. - Appreciate you guys. Welcome to your streaming at the ESPN 1000 app. - Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. (upbeat music) - And most of the Harry fans. - It's the Cap and J-Hood morning show on the ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. But with you till 10 o'clock, then Mike Greenberg comes in at 10. Carmen and Yurco at 12, Wildland Sylvia at 2.30. White Sox baseball is a tick on the Angels. It's a six o'clock pregame right here on the home of the White Sox, ESPN 1000. Could be a record breaking broadcast. The Sox could have the most losses in the modern era tonight if they lose against the Angels. Black Nubdala, they will be on YouTube, YouTube.com. Look for Black Nubdala on YouTube.com. Just joining us, we've been talking about the bears. Just getting your thoughts about the bears and where they stand. And again, I'm not a jealous sports fan cap. I'm a fan of the teams I root for. I can admire it 'cause we talk about all the time. We talk about players that we admire a lot. Teams that we admire like, hey, that's a good coach. That's a good team. We talk about ebbs and flows and sports all the time, you and I. But the idea that I'm watching Washington and with a blanket and a door closed, it's not how I look at sports. I'm just watching and saying, Jane Daniels, pretty good kid. - You're not watching another couch with the blanket pulled up around your neck crying? - No, I'm not crying. Neither. - Not at all. Because when you have an investment in the team, you could all easily say, how come you don't have this coach, this player, this player? Just understand the infrastructure of the bears. Now, I see what you see on social about how come we don't have this guy, that guy. You see what the line is with this. You see Shane Waldron as you'll see. I mean, again, you can't fix everything in a season. And Paul said that. You can't fix everything. But damn it, the offensive line has been an issue since he's been here. He knows better, like as you mentioned, Coleman Shelton's here for a song. One year deal, three million. - Yeah, he won't be bad this year. - So it's something that is paramount for them to address in the off season. Actually, this season and in the off season. Because we've known polls to make moves in season to make things better. - Yeah, I don't know if he's going out trading pretty significant draft capital to get an offensive lineman in season. Could I see them signing someone off the scrap heap, Bock Tiari or somebody? Maybe, maybe. We'll see what the injury statuses with things look like. So. - Let's go to Cohen, Los Angeles, California, listening on the ESPN Chicago app. Hey, Cole, good morning. - Hey, good morning, Cap, what are you supposed to want? - What's up? - How you doing, brother? - Doing good, man. So I guess I'll just start with the good news. So looking at the Jaguars, I'm going to, I'm taking my little cousin to the London game. - Oh, so I have faith, I have faith that we're going to at least be, you know, competing or beating man, hopefully since Derek Dunsterfire. - Yeah, that's on October 13th, that's going to be really cool. - Yeah, man. So it's his first time overseas, so I'm excited about that. But what I will say is like, in the off season, when we hired Shane Wall, I don't know if I'm tripping, but that looked more like a move that was like, okay, we're going to stick with Justin Fields. Not that I wanted to stick with Justin, I mean, I don't mind sticking with either quarterback because I'm embarrassed that. But it just seemed like, okay, Shane Waller just proves that he can rehabilitate a quarterback. So I was under the impression that we would be keeping Justin Fields just because of what Shane Waller did already proven. At this point, you know, I'm not going to complain about what, you know, what we have, what we don't have. But I will say this, if you look at Jayden Daniels, that is not just the coaching, that is also the O-line. So it is a hand-in-hand thing. So I completely 100% blame Ryan Polls because he should have addressed the O-line. You're drafting a puncher in the fourth round. You know what I mean? It's crazy to me. So I just wanted to say that. And you guys pray that we win for the Jaguars that have not wanted to be in London pissed off. - I don't blame you, by the way. Shane Waldron and Caleb have a long time relationship through the quarterback collective, Justin as well. But when they brought in Shane Waldron, it was a done deal they were moving on. Coe, done deal. - Coe, we appreciate the phone call. He leaves on open 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6. - Also Cliff Kingsbury accepted the Vegas Raiders job. You remember? - I do. - And then Dan Quinn got Washington and they had hit some history and he went, ah, hang on a second, Vegas. I'm going there. That open Vegas forgets you. (sighs) - He's a climber, that's what he is. - In Pittsburgh? - Yeah, and he fails up. He's one of the few in the business that fails up. - Yeah, he got fired by Texas Tech going five and seven with Patrick Mahomes that got the Arizona Cardinals job. He was at USC for like three weeks. Oh, I can get the Arizona Cardinals in. - That's what he, I mean, that's what he is, Cap. It's just, he's a climber. And by the way, I mean, I don't blame him for being able to get the best job possible. But if he got this offense fixed, he'd be gone the next year. Just as who he is. - Correct. - The Vagabond just moves around. That's what he is. - That's what he is. - Daytona Beach, Florida, listening on the ESPN Chicago App. Here's Ian on Cap and Jhood. Ian, good morning. - Good morning, guys. Thank you so much for taking my call. First time listener, long time caller. - Oh, we appreciate it. Thank you. - Thanks a lot. (laughs) - No worries. So I was actually able to fly up for the game. I had some family and my dad's been in the billboard ministry for a while, so he had some trade. Nothing but nice things to say about Lucas Oil. Often people, often staff. We've noticed a few things on the sideline. I don't know if the cameras caught it or not. 'Cause sometimes they will, sometimes they won't. But there is some disconnects between the coaches, specifically on the offensive line. Either they didn't know the play call, but they couldn't hear it, or they didn't understand it. I don't know if you all thought it or not. - I don't know if we saw that. - Do you see them arguing? Hands up, arguing, very confused, sending players out. The players are gonna, it was Roson Johnson, who was going out, and then they immediately said, no, come back, come back, come back, you're not out. - Yeah, but that stuff goes on in every game. - But if you're asking, it wasn't on TV? No, it wasn't on TV. - Okay. - No, that stuff goes on in every game. It's the heat of the moment, man. Guys are yelling and screaming. - Yeah, of course, I understood that. And the sidelines looked very different. I'll put it that way. - So ultimately what you're giving us is a eyewitness view of just craziness on the sidelines or just seemingly miscommunication. That's what you saw, right? - It's a miscommunication, and I only noticed it for the offense. Defense, I didn't see anything, nothing like that. But I wanted to give you all a quick shout out. Thank you so much for your time. - All right, Ian, thanks bud. - Yeah, the defenses and lawn chairs with a drink in our hand, just waiting to get back on the field. - Let us know when we're ready. - That's what they're waiting for. - Just don't turn it over. At the barbecue going on the sidelines, BSing with one another, we're up, all right. All right, just put a drink down. - Yeah, then grab my helmet here. - Here we go. - All right, three and out. - Ready. - That's, I mean, really. So when it is, you lose this defense is very, very good, very productive. Again, not getting into the quarterback as much as I'd like, but the pressure's there. - Big billings getting the job done. - Yes, and that was a terrible call when they said that it was not a fumble that he recovered or a pick. Actually, I think it was a pick. - Yeah. - That was a bad call. The whistle comes after the ball is out. - You see me out there, Cap? I can barely get my uniform on, big billings. - Yeah. - It's all the way over on the top of the dome. - Yeah. - On the stomach. - Pretty fun. - He doesn't care what he's wearing. He's just trying to get to the quarterback, man. - He's a beast. - I love it. - Yeah, I like him. - Is Braxton Jones okay? I mean, he's, I don't know that you could bend that way. Trying to stop the defense. - Yeah, he's got Jesus. - I mean, it's year three, but you would think he would already be there. He's not strong enough. He's just not, doesn't have a great base. - Mm, that good. - Shawn and Bartlett on, Cap and J-hood. Hey, Shawn, good morning. - Hey, how you doing? - What's up, Shawn? - I was just, I was thinking about the red flags with Caleb because I'm a Notre Dame fan as well. - Sorry, but yeah, when he played Notre Dame, I mean, and he played any good defense, he looked pedestrian, honestly. He just, he has so many red flags. And I just didn't understand why they took him. - What red flags are you seeing? He was 30 to five touchdown interception. - When he played a decent team, he didn't play well in college. He just didn't. - That's not, that's not accurate. That's not an accuracy. - That's three through three picks against Notre Dame. That's our main rival. What are you talking about? - Okay, one, they had one game. He finished 30 to 30. - How many times did Jayden Daniels do that in college? - Well, the year before Caleb won the Heisman Trophy, so let's be, let's imagine him up. - When did Jayden Daniels do that in college? - He was 30 to five TD to interception. Come on, let him do it. - When did Jayden Daniels cap do that? - When did Jayden Daniels do what? - When did he throw three picks against his rivals like that? - That's one game, man. - It doesn't matter. One game is a big deal in college. - No, it's not. - Also, listen, if he wants to be a leader of men, he can't be crying on the sidelines. - Oh my God, here we go. Why don't you do me a favor? See if you can find your ass up in Lake Forest and go talk to his teammates, away from a microphone, away from a camera, and ask him what they think of Caleb Williams, because those guys love him in that room. - They're in team, they love his room. - They what? - I guarantee they're fine. We don't think they're sitting around, clown him with the suit who paints his fingernails. - Ben, come on. - Oh, come on, man. You know what? Get off the roads my wife's driving on. Hand your keys to someone and go get some help, 'cause you're an idiot. (screaming) - He's less of a man if he paints his nails, right, Sean? - Oh my God. - Right, Sean? - Does that call from April? I mean, what are we doing here? - I love when guys judge other guys in questioner manhood based on how they dress and how they look. That's the best. That's just the best cap. - I mean, if you don't think he's the quarterback for the Chicago Bears, that's one thing, but try to, again, character assassinated him based on how he looks, and by the way, and also judge a quarterback, a quarterback, on one game that tells you all you need to know about Sean from Bartlett. - Yeah, Sean from Bartlett does not know, tell me you don't know anything about football without telling me you don't know football. My God. - Bears with a Super Bowl, you'll be painting not on your nails, but your ass. - Jeff Saturday on Caleb Williams. - I still like Caleb Williams. I think this kid can play ball. Now, how their careers turn out, who knows? But both of them have shown me some real positives in the first three weeks of the season. I think Jane Daniels with the commanders, they have a better rushing attack, a better game plan rushing the football. So I think he's gonna look a little better than Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams has done some special things. I don't think their line has been particularly good. His two interceptions against the Colts, really were kind of absurd. So as you're looking at him, if you're the Bears fan, I can understand your frustration. I think he's still gonna be a guy though. I like where he is. I think it's gonna take time for that team to continue to turn around. So I wouldn't jump off of Caleb Williams bandwagon. - Yeah, Jeff Saturday on sportsman like this morning, between five and seven. - Yeah, he threw for 363 yards. I mean, come on, man, it's just a horrible call. Like Sean really woke up this morning. I don't know if he's married, Laosumi is, he said, "Hey, hon, have a good day." What do you got today, Sean? I'm gonna call on this huge radio show and make an ass of myself. That's what I think I'm gonna do today. - You forgot your keys, have a good day. - Yep, don't disrespect the family now. - Sean, to say that he was not a good quarterback in college is just ignorant. That's all. And by the way, as Shay, you just laid out, is that call from April? Yeah, because they saw these non-college football fans that watch one game because it's local, because it's in the area, in the region against Notre Dame. That guy sucks. Well, my takeaway is that he sucks 'cause he saw one game. - Yeah, 'cause he painted his nails. Well, you wanna go back to Jane Daniels? When he played Purdue, he was 12 of 17 for a buck 39. - 12 of 17 for a buck 39. - He must suck. - He must be absolutely horrible. - Yeah, Florida State last year, the opener, 22 of 37, one touchdown, one pick, loss. - Hey, strife. - Yeah, it's tough stuff, man. It is tough. - It's tough. - How about the game at Arkansas? He was eight of 15 for 86 yards. - Damn. - I mean, come on, Sean. You're smarter than that. And if you're not, you're in trouble. - Are you sure? - I'm not. - Okay. But I would hope. Okay, okay, well, coming up next, we'll take more of your phone calls and snore palm. And still to come on cap and J-hood. - I kind of like him both ways. (upbeat music) - Follow Chicago's Home for Sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and J-hood are back on ESPN Chicago. Chicago's Home for Sports. (upbeat music) Ah, you are looking live. That's standing like here in Chicago. The city of Big Shoulders, the second city, it's Chicago, Illinois. And now it's time for a snore palm. Here's your host, Sean Orlick, check. - But even move quickly this week so we can get back to Bear's calls. If you want more, - Yeah, maybe we get Sean to call back again because, by the way, hey, Sean. - All right. And Daniel's year at Arizona State, 10 TDs to 10 interceptions. Taste on that. - But he didn't, he didn't like paint his nails though. He's not a real man. Time for snore palm here on cap and J-hood as we're looking live. Say it like, here's Shaderling, Shane. - All right, top 12 college football every week at 12. Hoodie, you can help me out that Louisville, I guess. I, LSU, I guess. Brian Kelly's clown. He shouldn't have won against South Carolina, Michigan. Please, Michigan's a service academy. Like good win against USC. But was it 32 passing yards and eight attempts? No, thanks. - Our bar never left. - Illinois, maybe. - Illinois. - I need to see it for another week. - What a cool. - Clemson, Pummel and nobody's. - Yeah. - Who do we put at 12, Louisville? - I sure, it's not, it's Illinois. - I'm doing this this morning and I'm like, boy, I'm trying to find a top 12, I don't know. - Oh, I mean, listen. - Boise State, 'cause they'll get the auto bid. - Yeah, so not Michigan at 12, huh? You got them, it was like you had them higher. - The Signetis, 10, Indiana, day 12? (laughing) - All right, let me get my pin out here. So number 12, we'll write down Louisville. That's good enough. - Number 12, a collection of honorable mentions. - Boise State, because they get the auto bid. - And Illinois, let's go, Alignite. - Maine, hell of victory. - You go into Nebraska and win? - Come on, man. - That was a hell of a game to watch. - I went to the radio call, 'cause I wasn't listening to Tim Brando, screw that. - You know, fun fact, fun fact, I heard this over the weekend. Nebraska in their last eight overtime games, O and eight, they've scored zero points. Not even a field goal in a single overtime in their last eight attempts. - Yeah, they showed that on the game, I was like, what? - How is that possible? - Well, I don't know about you, but even this year, I blame Scott Frost. Come on, that's your boy, Maclones. - No, it's getting creepy. - Jaymore, the Ryola, my home's thing, it's getting creepy. - Look at his picture cap, you saw Ryola? Looks just like my home. He's trying to eat the hair, everything else, all the machinations that he does. - I view the pre-game warm up, everything. - All this stuff. It's like, dude, control and identity, man. (laughing) - You know what? - A Ryola, yep. - So I got you 12 and a bunch of teams rattling at the bottom of your snore palm. Number 11, Shay. - 11's Mizzou, down three spots. I don't know what the hell is wrong with this team, but you come out flat against BC. Okay, you've used your mulligan. (laughing) - Over time with Vanderbilt? What? Nope, you're moving down a couple pegs. - You should always use your mulligan. (laughing) - Can I get a hand? - All right, so yeah, so a close win for Mizzou against Vanderbilt in that spot. - Drink widths. - My guy, drink widths. - That's it. - A good man. - Good man. - 10. - 10's Utah moving up two, no quarterback, no problem. Wittingham defense is like a decent golf shot. That'll play. No matter where you go, that defense is gonna play. Utah's up two spots. - 10. - And that guy's defenses are so good and he is such a quality coach. Oh man. - Hell of a win, 22-19 against Oklahoma State on the road in that spot for the U.S. - I had the U.S. That was a fun one to watch. His post-game interview with whoever, I think, Alison Williams down on the field. He said, "It shouldn't have been that close." It's a good win for us, but it should not have been that close. I love that he's, you know, just telling the truth, man. - He's a man, he's 40. He's now at three and one on the season. - Mike Gundy. - Number one. - That was the anniversary of his yesterday or two days ago. - Yeah. - I'm a man. - I'm 40. - I'm 40. - Waddle does the best Mike Gundy. - Number nine, Shay. - Penn State moves up two spots, 56-nothing win against Kent State at home. They won the week by not looking like Bleepe, like everybody else. - Yep. Number eight, Shay. - Miami moves up a spot. They went to South Florida. Game with an 18 and a half point spread. Frisky, South Florida team could had playoff aspirations with that group of five auto bid. How about 50 to 15? Miami committed a massacre on the road in, you know, I believe, where's that Orlando, South Florida? - That's Central Florida. - Yeah, that's Central Florida. Central Florida is Orlando. - Yeah, conflating two schools. - Cam Ward, hello. Quarterback for Miami. Let's take a look now and see 'em in bigger games. - Yeah. - Number seven, Shay. - I'm gonna fly through seven to one 'cause there was no movement from last week. Sevens, Oregon, they were on a buy. Six, Tennessee. They beat Oklahoma, but they look sloppy doing it. Multiple turnovers, the benefit of Jackson Arnold being so bad, he is now permanently benched. Brent Venables yesterday, he's not playing anymore. - Young quarterback now, again, in a big spot on the road in Norman, Shay, you know, kind of pedestrian, but they won the ball game, Oklahoma. - It was like Nico Fumbles, and then Oklahoma gives it back. Nico throws a pick in the red zone. Oklahoma immediately, Jackson Arnold. Fumble, they couldn't do anything right the sooner. - Number five, Shay. - Alabama, no movement, bye week. Ole Miss, no movement. At four, they dropped a bomb on Georgia Southern. Now conference play starts. The lane train just keeps on trucking. Three's Ohio State, no movement, and cap, I gotta put your feet to the fire a little bit. For all the gruff that you give to our guy, Jonathan Hood, about Georgia's schedule, how are your Buckeyes getting away with this garbage? Akron, Western Michigan, and Marshall, the good people of this country did not deserve to turn their television on at noon for Fox, big noon kick, and see Ohio State and Marshall. Gus Edwards and Joel Clatt, we're lucky they didn't jump out of the booth. - Who do they have coming up? - Those guys, now conference play starts. - I mean, the run, give me the next few. - Michigan State, sorry, at Michigan State. - Yeah. - Iowa. - Win-win. - At Oregon. That's the game of the year. - No, Texas, Georgia's the game of the year. - One versus two. (laughing) - I'll take the Buckeyes to roll into Eugene and get her done. - See, that's the thing, Shay. He loves the covered wagons of the Midwest. I like my football in a man's size. - Did Eugene, Oregon, become the Midwest? - Well, that's your wacky big 10. That's your wacky big 10 fight. - Ohio State's the best team in the country. - Ohio State having to go to Eugene. - Okay, let's see what happens. - That's gonna be a tough one, okay. - What's the date on that? - That's October 12th, yeah. - I will be locked in for that one. - I'm not sure of the time yet. That sounds like a night one. That should be a night game. - It'll be a night game. - Yeah, that'll be. - You're at three? - Two. - Yeah, Ohio State was three. Two's, Georgia off the by big game, Georgia Bama, this weekend night game. And then Texas stays at one day. They bombed Louisiana Monroe with Arch Manning. Probably gonna get Quinn Ears back. They'll drop a bomb on Mississippi State. And then we'll find out against Oklahoma. - Who in the hail scheduled Bama this early in the season? We need Shane Orling. We need our seven or eight games to get a tune up before we can play this. This is too soon. I don't need the heart attack now. - Kinda nice seeing this game in September actually. - I don't wanna see them. - Not now. - Could you just put in a Jackson State for me? Something else? Give me an FCS. Just give me a couple of, maybe two more buys. - Okay. - Oh my God. Bama's so early. Finding the updollas. - But the great thing is- - Oh God. - Whoever loses is still getting a great shot to go to the playoff because of a 12-teamer. - It's just a perpetual sweat for Abdullah and I. Or Bama, Georgia. - Are you gonna watch the game with Abdullah? - We will not. Or else the game. - Good. - Absolutely sure. - By the way, I do have to shout out my friend Tyler Rocky. He and his partner. They entertained me on the Chicago College tailgate. I really enjoyed that show. - It's a, you mean Shay Norlin, his partner. - I shouted out the partner. I also shouted out Tyler. - That was very mean. - It was very mean what you just did. - You just laid it out as if his Tyler and his girlfriend. (laughing) - That's not that one of those. - Oh. (laughing) - I'm hearing he's on the market again. - Bachelor hockey. - Bachelor hockey. We should do that. Let's do a show. - Let's not do that. - The Bachelor. - No, that would actually stop. - I think that'd be a good event. We'll make hockey with the Bachelor. - What's up? (laughing) - God, don't think that would work. - Daddy would love it. - I don't know. - It's content, man. - Tyler wants that. - I don't think so. - Yeah, you and Tyler did a great job, Shay. - I really enjoyed that show. - Thanks, buddy. (clapping) - It's the nicest thing he said to me in years. - I was impressed. You're on the road for weddings and you're finding a way to keep doing your job. I thought that was awesome. Really enjoyed the show. - And next week, you're in fries. (laughing) - Just put my fries in the bag, Shay Nolan. - Coming up, we will give you the Kappa J hood cut of the day. That's right around the corner. Our Chicago's home for sports. (upbeat music) - If you missed something, get the podcast on the ESPN Chicago app. (upbeat music) Jap and J hood are back. On Chicago's home for sports, ESPN Chicago. (upbeat music) - All right, center field. Pretty well hit. Armstrong going back. It is God. So the home run Kyle Swarber, 37th of the year. He has reached 100 RBIs. Three, nothing filled. (upbeat music) - Right there on NBC Sports Philadelphia. - Yeah, at beer league softball player. That guy's a stud man. - That sucks. - That one's not going to end well for me. - That sucks if you're the Cubs though. Watching that celebration in front of you. 'Cause you know that should be you. - There were a bunch of dudes. I will tell you this. If you go back and watch the end of the marquee broadcast, there's a bunch of guys Tommy Hottavy and a bunch of players. They're standing there in the dugout, just looking out at the Phillies jumping around. And that's what they should do. How does it taste? How does it feel? And I hope because he was there, the jet was doing the same thing. - Okay, that's it. We're going to fix this thing. - That's an ass. It had to suck. - Yes. - Now time for the Captain J. Hood cut of the day. - It's brought to you by Chicago cut steakhouse. Hoodie and I are going there today. - We are. - That's right. It's on La Salne, more side of the Chicago River. It's simply spectacular. (upbeat music) - Yo. - Yes, it's bad. - But in there man. - Oh! - Whatever. - Cut it. - It's not boring. - Okay, then you're boring. Cut, cut. - The question we would ask you is, are you going tonight? You want to go see the White Sox? Make history? - I got, we both have friends. - Yeah. - Jay, we all got friends that are buying tickets 'cause they want to see history. (upbeat music) - Yeah. - So I get started $4 by the way. - Oh, God. (laughing) - Just hey, it's just a fact. I'm just, that is a fact. You can buy a ticket to the game for four bucks. - Do you guys charge for soda in the locker room too to the players? Like do they have to use money in the machine? - Let me check the athletic.com. I'll get back to you. And by the way, if it is a pot machine, it's old school seven up. - Me high. - Parks. - Yeah. - Me high. (laughing) - Go down to Costco, see what they got for the off-brand soda for the guys. - What is this? Hmm. That's strange. - Burners. - Cold. (laughing) - Can's a little dusty. - I'm off the top of it. - It's just cola. - Cola. - Yeah. - Yeah, remember those blue cans? - Yes. - It's just a cola. - White Sox baseball brought to you by Cola. (laughing) How 'bout that, DJ? (laughing) - And that's all, folks. (laughing) - Wow. (laughing) - Oh, man. - Uh. (laughing) - What's the last time you had a good burners, Cap? - I can't tell you. - Burners. Or just cola. You know, it tastes the same, Cap. You know, you had, the old man used to buy a cola. Like I had company coming over, company. It's always, company's coming over. And he just filled the cooler up. Same cool with that fishin' at the day before. - Right. - The cooler got poppin' in. - Dad, it just says cola. That's what we're givin' 'em, cola. They're just mixin' drinks with it anyway. Oh, sorry. - Yeah. (laughing) - It didn't matter the taste. 'Cause it was gonna just be filled with old Fitzgerald and old Forster and all this. It didn't matter. - They don't care. - Walt doesn't care about that. - Just not a name about Andy Anderson. - Is it Andy? - Mr. Andy. - Mr. Andy. - Yes. - Andy didn't care about it either. - Okay, sorry. - He just says cola on it. - You don't have to drink it. - Sorry. (laughing) Yeah, very testy about that, Kyle. Bob would want it. He had his pop. He's just like, "It doesn't matter what it is." - Did you have the shoot piece? - No. - Isn't that what we heard it was called the other day? - It does shoot peepies? - Shoot peepies. - It does shoot peepies. - It's actually sweatsh. - Yes. - But the shoot peepies, no. That's too high-end for Bobhood. Oh, no shot, no shot. No, the name brand? All of the pop was is for the kids if they wanted one, but ultimately for the adults so they can mix their drinks. - Do you remember, I know my late mom, my miss you, love you, my mom would always keep entendments in the freezer course. I'm like, "Mom, what's with the blueberry crumble "or the cherry or the apple?" - Because if company comes over, what? - Company. - Can't tell you the last time I had company in my house. - Company. - Yes. - What kind of company? People coming over. - But people used to knock on your door. They would do a drive-by. - Yes. - Oh wow, the Smiths are here. Get the entendments out of the freezer right now, so it'll defrost. - Okay, all right. - Company's here. Company. - Okay. Hi, please sit down. How are you? - Good, good. How's the family? This neighbors is dropping by out of nowhere. - Right, I'm gonna have some entendments in a moment. Would you like me to put on some coffee? - I have Sanka. - Unannounced. - Do people still say company? Like we're having company tonight. - I have never said company since I've had my own home, my wife has never said. - I think my mom used to say it, like she'd get the Swiffer out and I'd go, "Oh hell." She's like, "There's company coming tonight. "We have to clean." - Okay. I gotta ask Mindy, have you ever said to the boys, "Hey, we're gonna have company over?" - As an adult, I've not used that phrase, but I've heard it all my life. - Yeah, when my mom and my grandma. - Yes. - Company's coming over. Get the pound cake. Get the pound cake. Okay, got it. All right, the tin. All right, there it is, the pound cake. And it's the coffee brewing. Make sure the Hill's brothers, she likes the decaf. Okay, all right, fine. Because that was the thing, man. They want to make sure that they put on errors. Now, again, your house, you know, now it's casual, it's fine, whatever, right? But they put on errors. They wanna make sure it's perfect when people came over. They're coming over, make sure it's right. - Break out the fine China? - Yeah, just, I mean, make sure it's okay. - And he called everybody Mr. and Mrs. back then, pal. You didn't call them by their first name. No, it's a nice shot. - I met a guy yesterday and it was somebody, I was with a friend and said, "This is my dad." And I said, "Hey, Mr. Langen, nice to meet you." - That's right. - "He's younger than me!" - Yeah, but it's the respect we grew up with. - That's how I was raised. He goes, "Mr." I'm like, "That's how my mom and dad raised me." - Yeah. - And Mr. Hood, nice to meet you. - Yeah, like, you know, when Dan and Beth come over, I don't go, "Hey, Bernstein." I go, "Hey, it's Mr. Bernstein." - It's Bernstein to you, or Dan. - Thanks to Shay and Jaymore on the other side of the glass. We'll talk to you tomorrow for a waddle Wednesday. So long, everybody. - Take that. - From Chicago, Bernstein.
